Character Art For X-Men: Days Of Future Past Revealed
Fans anticipating the latest film in the X-Men franchise have just two weeks to wait. In order to drum up the hype for the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past film, 23 pieces of character art related to the flick have been revealed.
The images will look familiar to some fans, as they look to be the same works that appeared earlier this year on select covers of British film magazine, Empire. These images, however, all feature different backdrops and show off some new characters in the franchise.
The young and old versions of Professor X, played by James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart respectively, are featured in the art. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is featured in a pair of shots. Halle Berry features in a piece as Storm, and Magneto's younger and older selves are depicted by Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen. Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Peter Dinklage help round out the ensemble cast.
According to ComingSoon.net, these images were not meant to be film posters and instead were used in various ways to promote the film internationally. The plot for X-Men: Days Of Future Past centers on the present versions of the X-Men team who go back in time to correct events that could save the future.
Unfortunately, Monica Lewinsky Writes ‘Tell-All’ About Her Affair with President Clinton
Monica Lewinsky writes in Vanity Fair for the first time about her affair with President Clinton:
“It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress.” She also says: “I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.”
After 10 years of virtual silence (“So silent, in fact,” she writes, “that the buzz in some circles has been that the Clintons must have paid me off; why else would I have refrained from speaking out? I can assure you that nothing could be further from the truth”), Lewinsky, 40, says it is time to stop:
“tiptoeing around my past—and other people’s futures. I am determined to have a different ending to my story. I’ve decided, finally, to stick my head above the parapet so that I can take back my narrative and give a purpose to my past. (What this will cost me, I will soon find out.)”
Clearing the Air
Maintaining that her affair with Clinton was one between two consenting adults, Lewinsky writes that it was the public humiliation she suffered in the wake of the scandal that permanently altered the direction of her life: “Sure, my boss took advantage of me, but I will always remain firm on this point: it was a consensual relationship. Any ‘abuse’ came in the aftermath, when I was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position. . . . The Clinton administration, the special prosecutor’s minions, the political operatives on both sides of the aisle, and the media were able to brand me. And that brand stuck, in part because it was imbued with power.”
Job Hunting
After the scandal, writes Lewinsky, “I turned down offers that would have earned me more than $10 million, because they didn’t feel like the right thing to do.” After moving between London (where she got her master’s degree in social psychology at the London School of Economics), Los Angeles, New York, and Portland, Oregon, she interviewed for numerous jobs in communications and branding with an emphasis on charity campaigns, but, “because of what potential employers so tactfully referred to as my ‘history,’” she writes, “I was never ‘quite right’ for the position. In some cases, I was right for all the wrong reasons, as in ‘Of course, your job would require you to attend our events.’ And, of course, these would be events at which press would be in attendance.”
Correcting the Record
Lewinsky writes that she is still recognized every day, and her name shows up daily in press clips and pop-culture references. She admits that she used to refer to Maureen Dowd as “Moremean Dowdy,” but “today, I’d meet her for a drink.” And she requests one correction of Beyoncé, regarding the lyrics to her recent hit “Partition”: “Thanks, Beyoncé, but if we’re verbing, I think you meant ‘Bill Clinton’d all on my gown,’ not ‘Monica Lewinsky’d.’”
Lewinsky responds to reports made public in February that Hillary Clinton, during the 1990s, had characterized her as a “narcissistic loony toon” in correspondence with close friend Diane Blair. “My first thought,” Lewinsky writes, “as I was getting up to speed: If that’s the worst thing she said, I should be so lucky. Mrs. Clinton, I read, had supposedly confided to Blair that, in part, she blamed herself for her husband’s affair (by being emotionally neglectful) and seemed to forgive him. Although she regarded Bill as having engaged in ‘gross inappropriate behavior,’ the affair was, nonetheless, ‘consensual (was not a power relationship).’”
Why She’s Going Public
When Tyler Clementi, the 18-year-old Rutgers freshman who was secretly streamed via Webcam kissing another man, committed suicide in September 2010, Lewinsky writes, she was brought to tears, but her mother was especially distraught: “She was reliving 1998, when she wouldn’t let me out of her sight. She was replaying those weeks when she stayed by my bed, night after night, because I, too, was suicidal. The shame, the scorn, and the fear that had been thrown at her daughter left her afraid that I would take my own life—a fear that I would be literally humiliated to death.” Lewinsky clarifies that she has never actually attempted suicide, but had strong suicidal temptations several times during the investigations and during one or two periods after.
Lewinsky writes that following Clementi’s tragedy “my own suffering took on a different meaning. Perhaps by sharing my story, I reasoned, I might be able to help others in their darkest moments of humiliation. The question became: How do I find and give a purpose to my past?” She also says that, when news of her affair with Clinton broke in 1998, not only was she arguably the most humiliated person in the world, but, “thanks to the Drudge Report, I was also possibly the first person whose global humiliation was driven by the Internet.” Her current goal, she says, “is to get involved with efforts on behalf of victims of online humiliation and harassment and to start speaking on this topic in public forums.”
Magazine Publishes Pharrell Williams INSPIRED Art Work
In W Magazine, Grammy-winning producer Pharrell talks about his breakout success ("Blurred Lines", "Happy", "Get Lucky") and opens up about his new album G I R L and how he came to appreciate women and their power. He told the mag,
“I fully realize the power of women. If women wanted to put up their hands and say, ‘No more children,’ they could stop the world. We have to acknowledge their power: There is no person on the planet who didn’t benefit from a woman saying yes twice—yes to make you and yes to have you. And every human being came through the golden doors of a woman’s body. I’m not against the male species, but let’s make things equal. Other than the hat, I’m getting to be known for putting my hands together in a prayer of thanks. My mood these days is grateful. I am so, so grateful.”
In the accompanying piece, writer Lynn Hirschberg truly shows how art and music intersect in Pharrell's life and drive his talent. When she asked what it felt like to be the magazine's subject for an "art"-inspired pictorial, he said,
“I like the idea of being a character in someone else’s story. It sounds odd, but I’ve always considered myself to be one of the characters in a Wes Anderson movie. For a while, I would dress like one of his people—I would wear Wallabees and tan suits. And, like Jason Schwartzman in Rushmore, in my head I thought I was responsible for all the culture in my school, in Virginia Beach. When Bill Murray takes off running for no reason in that film, that feeling is absolutely true to my life. I see myself in that run.”
In addition to his clothing line, a planned fragrance and a series of limited-edition "Happy" t-shirts, Pharrell said he has no plans to slow down and will continue to be a "creator."
"Music will always be my first love. But the one thing I’ve learned is that this life is a movie and I am a cocreator. It’s a big movie, and there’s a lot of creativity going on.” Williams unconsciously patted the hat. “As long as I play my part, it won’t be over for quite a while.”
For "The Art Of Pharrell" W Magazine tapped 5 artists and told them to tap into the essence of Pharrell. Here's what they came up with:

Nintendo Bans Gay Characters In Tomodachi Life Game
Nintendo could be haggling with a public relations nightmare ahead of the worldwide release of a popular “life simulator” game that hit big in Japan. The gaming company says that it will not allow same-sex relationships for the game Tomodachi Life, prompting pro-gay critics to speak out.
Tomodachi Life is a game built of Nintendo's virtual “Mii” characters, who engage in real world activities such as going to work, entertainment, dating and the like. So far, only male and female characters are allowed to flirt, date and get married which sparked a small campaign by 23-year-old gay fan Tye Marini last month.
The Associated Press has more:
The publisher of such gaming franchises as "The Legend of Zelda" and "Mario Bros." said Tuesday it wouldn't bow to pressure to allow players to engage in romantic activities with characters of the same sex in English editions of "Tomodachi Life." This follows a social media campaign launched by fans last month seeking virtual equality for the game's characters, which are modeled after real people.
"Nintendo never intended to make any form of social commentary with the launch of 'Tomodachi Life,'" Nintendo of America Inc. said in a statement. "The relationship options in the game represent a playful alternate world rather than a real-life simulation. We hope that all of our fans will see that 'Tomodachi Life' was intended to be a whimsical and quirky game, and that we were absolutely not trying to provide social commentary."
Nintendo says that the game has sold nearly 2 million copies, and is set for release in North America and Europe June 6. Tomodachi means “friend” in Japanese and the game's English tagline is “Your friends. Your drama. Your life.”
Fans of the game pushing for the inclusion of gay characters in Tomodachi Life have been using the social media tag "#MiiEquality" to galvanize others in the cause.
