Angelina Jolie Talks Casting Kids in "Maleficent" in ELLE June 2014: Brad Pitt & I Were So Stressed
She stars as the infamous Disney villain in the upcoming film "Maleficent," and during promotions Angelina Jolie landed on the cover of ELLE magazine's June 2014 issue.
While striking a few poses in lovely Saint Laurent getups, the 38-year-old stunner opened up to the mag's deputy editor Maggie Bullock about her hunky partner Brad Pitt and her path to self-discovery.
Check out highlights from Miss Jolie's interview below and for more, head over to ELLE!
On her path to self-discovery:
"[The tumult of my twenties] wasn’t a need to be destructive or rebellious—it’s that need to find a full voiceradaronline.comfull voice, to push open the walls around you. You want to be free. And as you start to feel that you are being corralled into a certain liferadaronline.comcertain life, you kind of push against it. It may come out very strange, it may be interpreted wrong, but you’re trying to find out who you are.”
On living up to her potential:
"I realized that very young—that a life where you don’t live to your full potentialradaronline.comfull potential, or you don’t experiment, or you’re afraid, or you hesitate, or there are things you know you should do but you just don’t get around to them, is a life that I’d be miserable livingradaronline.commiserable living, and the only way to feel that I’m on the right pathradaronline.comright path is just to be true to myself, whatever that may be, and that tends to come with stepping out of something that’s maybe safe or traditionalradaronline.comsafe or traditional.”
On what she used to think her life would be like:
“I never thought I’d have children, I never thought I’d be in love, I never thought I’d meet the right personradaronline.comright person. Having come from a broken home—you kind of accept that certain thingsradaronline.comcertain things feel like a fairy taleradaronline.comfairy tale, and you just don’t look for them.”
On how her relationship with Pitt has evolved over the past eight years:
“You get together and you’re two individuals and you feel inspired by each other, you challenge each other, you complement each other, drive each other beautifully crazy. After all these years, we have history—and when you have history with somebody, you’re friends in such a very real, deep way that there’s such a comfort, and an ease, and a deep love that comes from having been through quite a lot together.”
On casting her daughter Vivienne in Maleficent and how she and Pitt feel about the kids getting into show business:
"For young Aurora, they needed a child who wouldn’t be fazed by the Mistress of All Evil hissing 'I don’t like children' in her face. And my little Vivienne—we call her my shadow, because there’s nothing I can do to shake her. I can be tired, I can be grumpy, I can be in a terrible moodradaronline.comterrible mood, and she doesn’t care. It’s ‘Mommy, Mommy,’ and she’ll cling to me. We knew that she would still do that thing, she’d still smile at me and insist that I pick her up. So we couldn’t really cast anybody else. I asked Shiloh about being Aurora, and she laughed in my face. She said she’d be a horned creature. Brad and I made the decision that we wouldn’t keep them from sets and the fun of making movies, but we wouldn’t [glorify it either]—we wouldn’t make it a good thing or a bad thing. But I would really prefer they do something else... after two days of it, Brad and I were so stressed we never wanted to do it again.”
The cover and 16-page portfolio is featured in more than 20 editions of ELLE around the world, which hit shelves on May 20.
Rams Pick Michael Sam, First Openly Gay Player Drafted In NFL

Michael Sam runs a drill at the NFL football scouting combine in Indianapolis in February. Sam was picked in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams.
In the seventh round of the NFL draft the St. Louis Rams have picked Michael Sam, making him the first openly gay player to be drafted by a pro football team.
Sam, who played for Missouri in college, came out earlier this year in media interviews with ESPN and The New York Times. His team and coaches knew his sexual orientation before the interviews, but kept it private for his final college season.
That season was the best of his college career, and he was anointed with the title of Southeastern Conference defensive player of the year.
It was thought Sam might be picked earlier in the draft, but ultimately was taken with the 249th overall pick out of 256.
Writing for Outsports.com, Cyd Zeigler had this to say about the Rams' pick:
"It will be fascinating in the coming days to watch the reaction to the drafting of Sam. Some will point to his sexual orientation as the reason he wasn't drafted earlier. It is truly impossible to know why someone is drafted when they are, unless you're able to speak with every general manager who passed him over and those who strongly considered him.
"Ultimately, Sam was selected in the NFL Draft, and that's what matters. He beat out thousands of other prospects for his ability to help a team. His character, his leadership, his onfield performance and his Combine performance were all weighed and the Rams made their selection when they thought they had to."
And then there was this:
And then there was this:
Sam's entrance into the NFL could help the league's image after a season in which a bullying scandal was one of the bigger sports stories of the year.
Chris Brown Sentenced To 131 More Days In Jail, But Could Get Out In Week
The hammer has come down on Chris Brown, sort of. Today (May 9), the R&B singer admitted that he violated his probation in the Rihanna assault case and the judge sentence him to a year in jail.
However, Brown was credited with a number of days for time served, so his actual sentence is closer to 131 days in the bing.
Reports TMZ:
Brown was in court Friday afternoon ... where he admitted he violated his probation by getting into a fight with a dude in Washington D.C.
That's all the judge needed to hear. He sentenced Chris to 1 year in jail. HOWEVER, Chris got credit for 116 days he spent in rehab, and another 59 days behind bars. That leaves 131 days in the pokey.
But we're told the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept has been releasing inmates sentenced to 1 year after 240 days. And here's the thing. Chris gets credit for 2 days for every 1 he served behind bars, so when you add it up, he has credit for 234 days -- 6 days shy. So he could be released in days.
The judge could have gone a lot harder -- 4 years in prison. But Chris got a break because the judge took into account he was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which could account for some of the violence.
Brown was also ordered to attend therapy a couple of times of week and must submit to random drug testing a few times a week.
Before Team Breezy get too excited, Brown still has to face trial in Washington DC.

Lil Scrappy Got a New Baby Mother, and It’s Not Bambi!
Meet Scrappy’s new baby mother, her name.. Erica Pinkett who is a new cast member on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta…. According to her Bambi is a “Homewrecking Ho”, it’s funny because Scrappy cheated on Bambi with Erica and got her pregnant…… Now he has two baby mama’s named Erica… How Ironic… Diamond did speak on Scrappy needing to clear those demons out…
So Now Bambi is taking where Erica (The first baby mother) left off and Erica (The new baby mama) is taking over where Shay left off… The difference is… Erica Pinkett is with child.. Apparently they’ve been going back and forth via Instagram…. Fighting over this negroe… The D has to be on point…..
But I remember seeing Scrappy in the club during BET Weekend and I could see how a chick can get caught up… He is not bad in person… We locked eyes quick, which he smiled, but some groupie got in the way and I kept it moving… I had to remember… His coins are not long and he has too much drama… LITERALLY….
All of these chicks are dumb to fight over a mama’s boy that is still latched on to her tit, being that he is over 30… Well the stripper is pretty at least…
….. According to Bossip.com:
“Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” producers are making cutbacks on bloodshed by increasing security during shoots, and Lil Scrappy can testify … it’s already saved him from brawling with a FEMALE co-star.
Sources close to production tell TMZ … Scrappy and a new cast member named Erica Pinkett had to be separated by the new security force after she threw wine in his face during a dinner this week.
We’re told producers have added security — it’s now one guard for every cast member — on all shoot to keep things from getting “too ratchet.”
We’re also told it isn’t just cast-on-cast violence they’re guarding against … it’s also civilians trying to attack stars.
As one cast member put it … “That s*** gets ratchet and now the bodyguards shutting that s*** down.”
Words to live by.
Notice something: Erica is the same one who was trying to get hired at Tracey Steele and Drew’s fake sneaker store last season. I hope this show doesn’t start getting TOO fake smh!!!

It;s Obvious Why Lance Gross Dropped Eva Marcille!
Eva Marcille is now being messy… I am pretty sure Kevin McCall has his faults, but women like Eva fail to realize… Your the one who decided to lay down and procreate with the man you now despise.. It was all good back in December when they posed for their baby shower… Even showing pictures after the birth of Marley… What changed so quickly? Anyway after she was granted a restraining order claiming he allegedly was being abusive towards her in front of the baby. Eva thought it was okay to now take their beef to Instagram.
Basically trying to expose Kevin!
Kevin posted pictures of their daughter’s new Timberland boots on Instagram. He has an older daughter with someone else….
So Eva chimes in to let everyone know that she was the one who purchased the shoes, not him! Mind you he never said he purchased them… But I understand where Eva was coming from.. So many people be frontin on line like they are doing it big, when they are not….. But Girl! You already have a restraining order against him, like what’s the point of you saying something… ? Eva is looking like a troll in these streets…
So then Kevin responds respectfully not calling her out on her antics, but notices that she is thirsty for attention, which he told NO LIES!:
Shonda Rhimes SHUTS DOWN "Harrison" RECASTING Rumors - IT AIN'T EVER GONNA HAPPEN!
HELL HATH NO FURY like Shonda Rhimes on her Twitter feed. Watch the "Scandal" creator slice and dice rumors that she's recasting Columbus Short's role inside...
If you've been following the Columbus Short scandal, you know that he WILL NOT be returning to "Scandal" next season. Fact. What we're not sure about is that fate of his "Scandal" character Harrison Wright (who may OR may not have been killed off).
The "Scandal" cliffhanger had several media outlets reporting that Columbus character who be "replaced" by an actor named Eric West ("Hawaii Five-0", "Hey Girl").
Hmm....we've never heard of Eric but he does certainly "replace" Columbus Short's sexy factor. Once news about the recasting reached Shonda Rhimes (who's known for a good Twitter rant), she shut all the rumors down...COMPLETELY.
Black-owned businesses Bookstores America’s Oldest Black-Owned Bookstore Closes Its Doors
Karen Johnson, co-owner of Marcus Books in San Francisco, the oldest independent Black-owned bookstore in America, had some sobering news for the store’s supporters: They’re shutting their doors.
“The locks have been changed, the cavalry is not in sight, and it’s time to pack up the books and store them till we find another space,” Karen Johnson in an open letter.
The closure is yet another colossal blow to the city’s once vibrant Black community that has found itself priced out of San Francisco amid the tech boom and skyrocketing housing prices.
Named for activist Marcus Garvey, Julian and Raye Richardson opened Marcus Books in 1960 on Fillmore Street, once known as the “Harlem of the West.” Since then, Black writers and icons like Malcolm X, Toni Morrison, Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali, Walter Mosely, Alice Walker, and Oprah Winfrey have all walked through its doors.
For the past year Marcus Books struggled to survive. Despite the work of community activists, fundraising efforts, and the push to attain landmark status, the building was sold at auction for $1.6 million in December. Marcus Books’ owners were told they could buy back the property for $2.6 million, unfortunately, they weren’t able to raise the money and the store was padlocked on Tuesdays.
“With the numerous speeches of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee stating his commitment to righting the wrongs of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency’s slaughter of the thriving African-American Fillmore District, we at Marcus Books believed the City would take some affirmative action on our behalf,” Johnson wrote, “since Marcus Books is the only surviving Black business since the Redevelopment devastation.”
Back in March, AALBC—African American Literature Book Club—reported there are only 54 Black-owned bookstores left in the nation. As startling as it may be, with the loss of Marcus Books, that number has dropped even lower.
Adele Teases New Album Title
How kind is Adele? “Very” if the star’s latest tweet is anything to go by. Those kids over at That Grape Juice got the tea. According to them; The last year, the Brit-bred belter has logged in studio time with hitmakers Paul Epworth and Ryan Tedder for the project – which easily serves as the most anticipated of the year.
Its predecessor, ’21′, has sold over 28 million copies worldwide – 11 million of which came from the US (where its certified Diamond) and 5 million on home soil in the UK - where the LP is certified a whooping 16x Platinum.
Needless to say, it’ll be intriguing to see how this new project fares.

Dr Dre-founded Beats Electronics looks set for takeover by Apple
Reports suggest any deal could be worth $1.88bn, the California company's largest ever acquisition

Apple is closing in on a deal to buy headphone manufacturer Beats Electronics for $3.2bn it has been reported. It would be the California company's largest ever acquisition.
The deal could be announced as early as next week and would include Beats' streaming music service and its audio equipment business.
Beats has developed a strong brand since its launch by rapper Dr Dre and music producer Jimmy Iovine in 2008.
In 2012 50.1% of the company cost HTC $309m. Last September a $500m investment from Carlyle valued the company at more than $1bn.
The Apple deal, news of which was first reported by the FT on Thursday night, would mark a change in the California firm's approach under the leadership of chief executive Tim Cook following the reluctance of Steve Jobs to make large acquisitions. Reporting the company's second-quarter earnings last month, Cook said he was "on the prowl" for companies to buy. He told journalists: "We are not in a race to spend the most or acquire the most. We're in a race to make the best products that enrich people's lives." He added that Apple has purchased 24 companies over the past 18 months.
He said the company does not have a rule on the price it will pay: "We'll spend what we think is a fair price."
"In terms of acquisitions, Apple has been very, very light in their activity," Richard Lane, an analyst at Moody's, told the FT. He added: "I don't think they've spent $1bn in any of the last four years."
The news follows major acquisitions – and attempted purchases –by Apple's tech rivals. Google bought smart home developer Nest Labs for $3.2bn and Facebook bought the WhatsApp Messenger service for $19bn.
Beats recently launched a streaming music service, which may have proven particularly attractive to Apple, the popularity of whose iTunes service appears to be falling. In contrast, subscription services are growing fast, with revenues increasing 50% to $1.1bn in 2013, according to a report by the the global music industry association IFPI. Downloads, however, fell 2% to $3.93bn
