The Daily Buzz For June 5 ☕📰☕

Zoë Kravitz for British Vogue UK - July 2019
Zoë Kravitz is living her best life. She's finally returning to the small screen with HBO's hit series Big Little Lies. She's engaged to be married to the love of her life, Karl Glusman. And she's British Vogue's editor-in-chief, Edward Enniful's latest cover girl. But despite, in our humble opinion, hitting the genetic jackpot, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet's daughter says she didn't always feel comfortable in her own skin.

“My peers were wealthy white kids – jocks and cheerleaders – and I felt super alienated. On the cusp of being a teenager you’re trying to figure out who you are, and when there is no reflection of you anywhere you look, you feel like a freak,” she tells the magazine.
When she was 13, she developed an eating disorder. “My mother was so beautiful and so tiny, I always felt clunky around her, and then my dad was always surrounded by supermodels… I was short, and you feel uncomfortable in your skin anyway at that age,” she says.

Acting helped Kravitz grow into the confident woman she is today. “When I got into acting school, I never knew if it was because of my audition or my last name,” she says. “But I’m slowly learning that no director will hire me because of my surname. The first 10 years of my career have been about proving myself. I now finally feel like I’m in a place where I’m able to say, ‘I deserve this,’ and, “I worked really hard.’ I’m getting better” —that, and she's definitely getting better with age.
Get more HERE! Pick up Kravitz on the cover of British Vogue on when it hits newsstands on June 7.

#RHOA: Porsha Williams’ Fiancé Dennis McKinely Denies He Had An Affair!
Fans are not so sure what is happening with RHOA star Porsha Williams and her fiance’s Dennis McKinley’s relationship after rumors that the man cheated with WAGS Atlanta star Sincerely Ward! In fact, the speculations were first sparked by Latasha Kebe, on her YouTube channel and everyone is confused, not knowing what to think!

But now, Dennis is addressing the rumors during an interview with E! News, telling the news outlet that he’s definitely not betrayed the mother of his child.
‘These false and slanderous allegations against me are made solely to damage my reputation, jeopardize my ongoing businesses, and negatively impact my family. My attempts to ignore the slander have only empowered Latasha Kebe to create more false accusations. I am currently taking legal action—and I am currently being represented by Michael T. Sterling of Dreyer Sterling, LLC,’ he told E! News.

Sure enough, his lawyer confirmed that they are pursuing legal action.
The same site shared the attorney’s statement that reads: ‘I handle legal matters in the court of law and not the court of public opinion and I will take whatever appropriate measures I can take to defend Dennis’ good name.’

And this is not all! The other reality TV star involved in this rumors also tells E! News that she and Porsha’s fiancé did not have an affair!
In fact, she made it very clear that, as far as she knows, they have never even met!
Ward stressed that ‘I really have no clue where this came from. It is so bizarre, I have never met Dennis. In Atlanta, it is easy to have 6 degrees of separation [but] to my knowledge, I do not even know if we have never even been in the same room together.’

#Empire: Jussie Smollett was Secret Married?
Now for some reason I’m having ahard time believing this tea. But Insiders claim Jussie Smollett was secretly married to producer Patrik-Ian Polk

A well placed source exclusively tells lovebscott.com that Jussie Smollett and writer-director Patrik-Ian Polk (Noah’s Arc, Being Mary Jane, P-Valley) were once MARRIED!
Sources exclusively tell lovebscott.com that the two wed in 2011 right after Patrik cast Jussie in his 2010 movie ‘The Skinny’ — featuring a cameo from our very own B. Scott — and they divorced in 2014.
As for how things ended, well, there were mumblings of the entire marriage being annulled — but our sources say the process was indeed a divorce.
The source adds that Jussie’s family was NOT happy with the union and aided in hiding the marriage from the public.

Here’s my issue on this 2011? Gay Marriages weren't legal in the states until 2015. So is this being used as a distraction from his Chicago arrest documents becoming public? Thoughts?

Uh Oh? An Ex-Employee Of R. Kelly Tells Grand Jury There Are More Underage Sex Tapes
Evidence is continuing to mount against R. Kelly as a former employee states there are more tapes of his sexual misconduct in existence.
The employee told a grand jury this past Thursday the “Ignition” hitmaker often recorded himself engaging in sexual acts with underage girls. According to TMZ the tapes were believed to be kept as “trophies” and are now in the possession of federal authorities.

The testimony which mentioned the tapes occurred in the Northern District of Illinois court. The employee also mentioned at one point having a tape but was paid a large sum of cash to hand it over. That tape is now with Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx.
The ex-employee also confirms staff members around R. Kelly would assist in recruiting the young girls.

R. Kelly is due back in court on June 6 on the new charges that were brought against him last week.

James Holzhauer's historic 'Jeopardy!' winning streak is over
James Holzhauer's historic "Jeopardy!" winning streak came to an end Monday night -- and it wasn't even a wrong answer that undid him.
Holzahauer was this close to breaking the all-time "Jeopardy!" earnings record, but he fell short in his 33rd straight game -- even though he had the right answer.
Holzhauer entered Monday night's Final Jeopardy! round trailing opponent Emma Boettcher $23,400 to her $26,600. He needed her to get the answer wrong in order to win, but both correctly answered the final question about 16th-century English playwright Christopher "Kit" Marlowe.
Holzahauer wagered $1,399. Boettcher's bet of $20,201 was enough to win regardless of what Holzhauer bet.

News of his streak-breaking loss made the rounds on Monday morning thanks to a leaked taping of the episode. The rumors were compounded by early airings of the show. "Jeopardy!" typically doesn't air until the evening, but due to programming schedules, some local stations air episodes in the afternoons.
As the news spread, Holzhauer himself joked about the outcome.

"Knew I shouldn't have invited Drake to the Jeopardy taping," he wrote Monday afternoon. (The rapper is known for keeping company with athletes who then mysteriously suffer critical sports upsets.)
Holzhauer has won more than $2 million over this 32-game "Jeopardy!" winning streak, but even that pile of prize cash probably won't dull the full sting of Monday night's loss.
If he had won, Holzhauer would have broken the $2,520,700 non-tournament earnings record set by "Jeopardy!" legend Ken Jennings all the way back in 2004.
Holzhauer will return to the Jeopardy! stage for the next edition of the Tournament of Champions.

Barry Jenkins Set To Direct Alvin Ailey Movie Produced By Alicia Keys
Alvin Ailey, one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th Century, will have a film based on his life directed by ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’s’ Barry Jenkins and produced by R&B songstress Alicia Keys.

Jenkins and Fox Searchlight made a deal last year with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to begin work on the untitled film. The deal, according to Deadline, granted full cooperation from the organization that controls the rights to Ailey’s choreography as well as the rights to Jennifer Dunning’s biography ‘Alvin Ailey: A Life In Dance.’

The Oscar award-winning director’s team for the film consists of Julian Breece, who also worked on Ava DuVernay’s ‘When They See Us,’ and Artistic Directors Robert Battle and Judith Jamison, to bring Ailey’s story and choreography to life on screen.

Ailey is credited with popularizing modern dance and positioning African-Americans at the forefront of professional and artistic dance in the 20th century. His world-renowned, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, was created in 1958 and was inspired by his mentor Lester Horton. He died of AIDS/HIV complications in 1989 and was posthumously awarded with the Presidential Medal Of Freedom by forever President Barack Obama.

No release date has been set for the film, as it is in the first stages of production.

American Couple Found Dead In Dominican Republic Hotel Room After Respiratory Failure
An American couple was found dead in their hotel room while on vacation in the Dominican Republic; officials say the cause of death was a respiratory failure and pulmonary edema.

On Thursday, authorities found the bodies of Edward Nathael Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Ann Day, 49, in their hotel room at the Playa Nueva Romana resort in San Pedro de Macorís, on the southeast coast of the country, according to the Dominican Republic National Police. The couple arrived on May 25 and planned on leaving Thursday, police said.

According to a statement from the Bahía Príncipe hotel, the couple was found after they missed their scheduled check-out time. The hotel staff followed protocol by entering the room; there, they found the tourists unresponsive. Staff immediately contacted the police after finding their bodies. Authorities report that no signs of violence were found on the couples’ bodies. In the room, there were medicine bottles prescribed for high blood pressure.

Their deaths are being considered suspicious, as Holmes complained about pain on Thursday but then refused to see a doctor. Officials are awaiting the toxicology and histopathology results. The autopsies were performed at the Regional Institute of Forensic Sciences, police said.

On Tuesday, the couple posted on Facebook celebrating their vacation. “Boat ride of a lifetime!!!” reads the caption. The U.S. Department of State confirmed the couple’s deaths in a statement to ABC News. “We offer our sincerest condolences to the family on their loss,” a State Department official said. “We are in close contact with local authorities regarding their investigation into the cause of death. We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. The U.S. Department of State and our embassies and consulates abroad have no greater responsibility than the protection of U.S. citizens overseas. Out of respect to the family during this difficult time, we have no further comment.” The hotel said in a statement that it is “deeply saddened by the incident.”

#RIP Chef Leah Chase, The 'Queen Of Creole Cuisine,' Dies At 96
Leah Chase, the New Orleans chef known for her legendary Creole cuisine and for her role as a pioneer of the civil rights era, died on Saturday at the age of 96.
As executive chef and co-owner of Dooky Chase's restaurant, Chase made the eatery a hub for the African American community of New Orleans and a meeting place for organizers of the civil rights movement.
Chase married into the restaurant in 1946 and transformed it from a casual sandwich shop into a refined dining establishment. She had previously worked as a waitress in the city's French Quarter, where some of the restaurants were expensive and for whites only.

At the time, restaurants were segregated in New Orleans, and it was illegal for blacks and whites to eat in restaurants together. At Dooky Chase's, whites and blacks ate together all the time, and it became a gathering place for politicians, artists and civil rights leaders.
In 2015, Chase spoke with NPR's Debbie Elliot. She said, "See blacks had nothing, nothing at all. No nice places. A little corner shop, or little something, but I saw on the other side of town, those nice restaurants, I said, how come we can't have that? A space where people can dress nice and feel comfortable sitting down, taking your time."
Under her leadership, the restaurant evolved into an upscale destination, with meals that reflected the city's Creole heritage and Spanish, French and African culinary influences.

Jessica Harris, a scholar and writer who was close to Chase, told NPR, "In the bad old days when African Americans could not eat elsewhere, that was the place they ate. That was the place they could eat, and it was the place they did eat.
"She fed the Freedom Riders. She would give them a meal before they headed out. It was one of the few places in the city of New Orleans where blacks and whites came together, sometimes clandestinely, and damn near illegally."
Martin Luther King Jr., Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, Nat King Cole and Ray Charles were just some of the famous guests who dined at Chase's restaurant.
Chase told NPR, "We fed Duke Ellington. Lena Horne became my good friend. Sarah Vaughn became my good friend. They were good, good people. We fed everyone."

Chase visited the restaurant and supervised the kitchen well into her 90s.
In a statement given to NPR, Chase's family said she wanted Dooky Chase's restaurant to serve as a "vehicle for social change during a difficult time in our country's history." They said she "treasured all of her customers and was honored to have the privilege to meet and serve them."

"Mrs. Chase was a strong and selfless matriarch," the statement read. "Her daily joy was not simply cooking, but preparing meals to bring people together. One of her most prized contributions was advocating for the Civil Rights Movement through feeding those on the front lines of the struggle for human dignity."

Christina Aguilera Confirms 'Latin Album Is Coming' During Vegas Residency
Christina Aguilera's sophomore Spanish-language album is coming!

While kicking off her “Xperience” residency in Las Vegas on Saturday (June 1), the powerhouse singer confirmed she has another Latin album in the works. Amid all the light shows, smoke features and costume changes, Aguilera also provided fans an exciting update on the project as she performed her bilingual Bionic song “Desnudatem,” telling the audience, “Let’s not forget: the Latin album is coming!”

It’s been nearly 20 years since the 38-year-old vocal powerhouse released her first Spanish-language LP, Mi Reflejo, in 2000. The effort produced several hits including “Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tu)” and “Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti,” and went on to receive the Best Female Pop Vocal Album at the Latin Grammy Awards and two trophies at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Since then, Aguilera has proudly embraced her Ecuadorian roots by incorporating the language in her music, even recording Spanish versions of her greatest hits like “What a Girl Wants,” “Beautiful,” and “Genie in a Bottle.”

The latest update on Xtina’s Spanish-language record comes four years after the pop star first confirmed her project on the Today Show in April 2014. At the time, the Grammy winner revealed she was recording two albums simultaneously: one in Spanish, the other in English.

Until now, no word on a release date for the former project has been revealed — but we’re REALLY hoping to get something new from her this year!

Group Of British Activists Trolled Trump’s UK Visit with comparisons to Former President Obama
A progressive anti-Brexit organization, Led By Donkeys, aren’t staying quiet during Donald Trump’s UK visit. The organization is responsible for a projection showing an image of both former President Barack Obama and his approval rating of 72 percent next to Trump and his rating of 21 percent.
“Just so you know, you’re wildly unpopular here in Britain. SAD! People REALLY don’t like you (though they love @BarackObama),” the organization tweeted out on Monday.

Led By Donkeys is determined to make the unfavorable president uncomfortable with its series of projections throughout the city. They even projected a video of conservative parliament member Boris Johnson criticizing Trump.

“I think he’s portraying a quite stupifying ignorance that makes him frankly unfit to hold the office of President of the United States,” Johnson said in the video projected onto London’s Big Ben.
The organization continued to taunt the president when they found out that he apparently couldn’t bare to see late senator John S McCain’s name on a US Navy war ship during his earlier trip to Japan.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report last Thursday that the White House asked the Navy’s Seventh Fleet to have USS John S. McCain hidden from view so the name of the ship would be entirely out of site during Trump’s visit.
Trump was apparently so deeply triggered by the name, that the ship was reportedly covered by a tarp to spare his eyes.

“We read the story about the sailors on a US warship being ordered to hide from you because you’re triggered by the name on their hats,” the organization tweeted. “So we turned Madame Tussaud’s into a giant USS John McCain baseball cap. Welcome to London!”

The Icon Super Model Iman Abdulmajid for InStyle US - March 2019
Iman is covering the March edition of InStyle titled: What Will Iman Do Next?
The supermodel, makeup mogul, activist, grandmother, and widow reflects on her 40-plus-year career and talks about her plans for the future.

“I suggested it,” she says over a glass of pinot grigio, sitting in the lobby of the Mercer hotel in New York City shortly after the photo shoot where the accompanying image of one super-soaked supermodel was created. Iman had been asked to wear a Supreme T-shirt as a simple homage to her stature as an unrivaled deity of the modeling world, a trailblazing cosmetics entrepreneur, and a long-standing advocate for women.

Too basic for Iman. She had other ideas. “I’m 63 — why would I have a Supreme T-shirt?” she says. “It’s just a boring T-shirt. It’s too young and too hip. So I said, jokingly, ‘Why don’t we get it wet?’ And as I said it, everybody said, ‘Yeah!’ I was like, ‘Fuck, now I have to deliver.’ ”
She delivered. “Well, you know, I try,” Iman deadpanned.

With a career that has spanned four decades, Iman is such a reliably adaptable and yet physically unaltered fixture of popular culture that most people wouldn’t know she actually retired from the runways in 1989. She hasn’t so much as attended a fashion show since, though she continues to outpace even some of her youngest peers both in relevancy and in ad pages, most recently appearing in campaigns for Valentino and Balmain. Fans on Instagram are obsessed with unearthing glamorous photos of Iman from the heyday of ’80s fashion, when she appeared in Thierry Mugler shows and attended galas with Calvin Klein. Especially popular are images that show the inimitable pairing of two icons of style, Iman and her late husband, David Bowie, who reportedly once said, “You would think that a rock star being married to a supermodel would be one of the greatest things in the world. It is.”

An even more crucial reminder of her continuing legacy is that as the founder and chief executive of Iman Cosmetics, she created a collection of makeup and foundation with an extensive array of shades specifically designed for women of color decades ahead of the current beauty-industry movement toward inclusivity. And yet in person, she remains as humble, charming, and, of course, strikingly beautiful as she must have appeared to the photographer Peter Beard when he met her as a student in Nairobi in 1975.

“She’s not just a model on the outside but also on the inside,” says her friend Donna Karan, who first worked with Iman when Karan, still in her 20s, became the head designer of Anne Klein and Iman had just arrived in New York. Their connection was instant and has lasted through the years, their careers, their marriages, their children, their respective loves and losses. When Karan introduced the Stephan Weiss Apple Awards last year to commemorate the memory of her late husband (Weiss died in 2001), one of the first honorees was Iman.
“From the deep, deep essence inside her, she cares,” Karan says.

Now both women are widows and grandmothers, a detail Iman brings up as she explains that one of her latest passions happens to be needlepoint. Who would have imagined Iman as a crafter, wearing reading glasses no less? “My PR guy said, ‘I don’t want you ever doing that on airplanes or in public,’ ” she says, recognizing this sort of hobby might be considered off-brand for a supermodel. “I’m just an average girl, but I’ve always understood the importance of creating a mystique so that people don’t know too much about me.”

#RHOA: Phaedra Parks Reacts to NeNe Leakes Wanting Her Back on the Housewives!
Life is peachy for Phaedra Parks, even without a peach in hand. “Oh my gosh, I’ve got love in my life,” the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star gushes in a interview with ET. “I’ve got great new projects. I’ve got vaginal wipes and a whole vaginal cleansing line, so I’m doing God's work.”

Well, speaking of things Phaedra can be a part of, her former RHOA co-star, NeNe Leakes, has been dropping Phaedra’s name in nearly every interview she’s done as of late, saying she’d love to see Phaedra back on the Bravo show. Adding fuel to the speculation fire that Phaedra could be ripe for a return was her appearance at Andy Cohen’s Housewives-only baby shower in January. The lawyer-turned-mortician was the only former cast member in attendance.

“Well, you know, what’s not to want about me?” Phaedra asks ET, with a laugh. “It’s nice to be wanted, but you know, I love my peace. It will always be a great part of my life, and I will never say never, but I’m in a happy space.”
The mom of two exited the series at the end of season nine, after a tense she said/she said/she said battle between Phaedra, Kandi Burruss and Porsha Williams. At that time, it seemed that Phaedra’s relationship with the women was irreparably fractured, but according to her, time has seemingly healed the wounds, at least with Porsha.

“I don’t watch the show, but a lot of the girls are still very connected to me,” she says. “So, I hang out with NeNe, I obviously talk to Porsha quite a bit. She’s having a baby. She’s having a huge shower in a few weeks, so I’ll be in attendance.”
“Porsha’s wanted to be a mom for a long time,” she adds. “I’m very excited for her and I know she loves children, she loves kids, so I think she will be excellent.”

#Empire: Jussie Smollett's phone records rejected by police as new surveillance videos emerge
The investigation into the attack on Jussie Smollett continues. A spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department told ET on Tuesday that detectives rejected the cell phone records the Empire star submitted via PDF one day earlier because they were heavily redacted.

According to police, a PDF is subject to manipulation, but they are not saying they have any evidence that Smollett manipulated his phone records -- detectives have now asked Smollett to submit his actual phone bill or a download of his entire phone. Police also told ET that detectives had recently obtained surveillance video from stores in the area where the attack happened to see if anyone bought rope around the time the incident occurred.

As the investigation continues, Smollett is still cooperating with detectives, and authorities are continuing to treat the actor as the victim of a hate crime, the spokesperson added.
A source previously told ET that Smollett was walking around Chicago in the early morning hours of Jan. 29, when two men started yelling racial and homophobic slurs at him, before repeatedly hitting him. The men then poured a substance on him -- believed to be bleach, according to the source -- and one of the attackers put a rope around his neck.

The Chicago Police Department claims they previously asked Smollett for his phone in an effort to corroborate certain details from his accounting of the incident, which includes him being on the phone with his talent manager, Brandon Z. Moore, when the attack occurred.

Smollett released a statement on Feb. 1 addressing the attack. The following day, he appeared on stage at his West Hollywood show at The Troubadour, telling fans that he was going to "stand strong."

#NewMusicVideo from Normani & 6LACK 'Waves'
Normani took her time in releasing the music video for "Waves," her brooding collaboration with 6LACK , but the just-released clip feels worth the wait.

In the four-minute video, the former Fifth Harmony bandmate brings viewers into the atmospheric space of the mid-tempo track, which hears her rich vocals sing a tale of twisted romance alongside the Atlanta rapper. In front of an intergalactic galaxy, the two offer up a psychedelic take on a lonely planet as they venture frame by frame into the space-age abyss. "You come in waves, waves, waves/ Every hour, every day, day, day/ You come in waves, yeah," she cues as a rush of echoes fill the track during the hook.
After teasing the release of the video in recent days, Normani took to Twitter to share a few words about the spacey project. "Proud to finally share this with you guys. There was SO much love and hard work poured into this video," she wrote, adding, "Hope you like it."

WATCH HERE
Normani's journey to solo stardom has been a slow and steady one, but "Love Lies," her 2018 collab with Khalid, recently hit a new milestone with 45 weeks atop the Pop Songs airplay chart. Meanwhile, in her recent Billboard cover story , the 22-year-old got candid about her responsibility as a black woman in mainstream music. "There's so much that I have to get off my chest," she told the magazine. "And there’s a responsibility I have as a black woman -- one of the very few to have the power to kill it. Even in the mainstream, there's not many of us. Especially chocolate girls. Like, being African-American is one thing, but girls [with] my complexion, it's unheard of. It's me, and SZA . Who else?"

#HipHopNews: 21 Savage has been Released From an Immigration Detention Center!
21 Savage is a free man once again. After spending ... in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his arrest on Feb. 3, the rapper was released on bond on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 12), according to TMZ. The rapper's lawyers gave a statement to the celebrity news website following his release.

"21 Savage asked us to send a special message to his fans and supporters -- he says that while he wasn't present at the Grammy Awards, he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world and is more than ever, ready to be with his loved ones and continue making music that brings people together," Alex Spiro, Charles H. Kuck and Dina LaPolt said in the joint statement. "He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country. And he asks for your hearts and minds to be with them."

Savage was arrested following a traffic stop in Atlanta on Feb. 3, and taken into custody when officials found that the rapper is actually a citizen of the United Kingdom and, according to them, residing in the U.S. unlawfully.

ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said at the time, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ‘21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta. Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.”

Initially, authorities claimed that Savage came to the U.S. legally in July 2005 with a non-immigrant visa, but when his visa expired in July 2006, he failed to leave the country. His legal team later debunked that story.

Mexican kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman found GUILTY of running drug cartel, guaranteed life in prison
'El Chapo' found guilty on all counts, receives mandatory life sentence. Mexico's most notorious drug kingpin, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty on all 10 counts Tuesday at the conclusion of a three-month trial that detailed grisly killings, a bizarre escape and drugs hidden in jalapeno cans.

The jury of 12 people announced their decision at a federal courthouse in Brooklyn, New York on the sixth day of deliberations, affirming Guzman was the leader of the Sinaloa cartel and conspired to commit murder.
Guzman, 61, entered the courtroom wearing a charcoal suit just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. He stared at the jurors and remained emotionless as the judge read the verdict.

Before the jury was discharged, Guzman briefly looked at his beauty queen wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, and blew her a kiss before being removed from the room. Aispuro also appeared to not react to the jury's verdict, according to Fox News producers.
“I am pleased that the Department has brought Joaquin Guzman Loera (El Chapo) to justice by securing a conviction against this drug kingpin, who was a principal leader of the Sinaloa Cartel,” Acting Attorney General Whitaker said in a statement.  “As was clear to the jury, Guzman Loera’s massive, multi-billion dollar criminal enterprise was responsible for flooding the streets of the United States with hundreds of tons of cocaine, as well as enormous quantities of other dangerous drugs such as heroin and methamphetamine."

Guzman's defense team released a statement saying they were "obviously disappointed" with the verdict.
"We are obviously disappointed with the jury's verdict int he trial of Joaquin Guzman Loera but are respectful of the process and the jury's decision," the statement read, adding that they will "review all of Joaquin's options, including appeal."

El Chapo, known as one of the most notorious drug traffickers in modern history, was extradited to the U.S. in 2017 after Mexican authorities captured him a year prior during raids in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. He was free at that point after a dramatic escape in which he tunneled out of a Mexican prison.
Guzman, who has been held in solitary confinement for the last two years, pleaded not guilty to the slew of charges that included engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise and international distribution of cocaine, thus beginning his long-waited criminal trial in November.

During the trial, 56 witnesses testified to the Sinaloa cartel leader’s willingness to use violence against enemies of a cartel that prosecutors say smuggled at least 200 tons of cocaine into the U.S. for more than two decades. The jurors combed through an avalanche of evidence that included text messages and phone calls allegedly showing Guzman making drug deals as the cartel leader.
At least 14 of the witnesses who testified were once close associates with the drug lord and some also held a lengthy criminal history and were drug distributors themselves.

Of the witnesses, one of the trials most memorable tales came from Guzman’s mistress, Lucero Guadalupe Sanchez Lopez. She testified she was in bed in a safe house with an on-the-run Guzman in 2014 when Mexican marines started breaking down the door. She said Guzman led her to a trap door beneath a bathtub that opened up to a tunnel that allowed them to escape.

"He was naked. He took off running. He left us behind,” she said in court.
One Sinaloa insider described Mexican workers getting contact highs while packing cocaine into thousands of jalapeno cans — shipments that totaled 25 to 30 tons of cocaine worth $500 million each year.
The drug lord managed to evade authorities and broke out of Mexican prisons twice. Guzman escaped from jail in 2001 by hiding in a laundry bin and managed to evade authorities by stowing away in one of his mountainside hideaways.
He was recaptured in 2014 but escaped a year later through a mile-long lighted tunnel. The second escape humiliated Mexican authorities who vowed the drug lord would never escape their grips again.

Guzman was captured again nearly six months later, with then-Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announcing the news: “Mission accomplished: We have him.”
During his final brief taste of freedom, Guzman met with actors and producers to plan a movie about his life — eventually leading authorities to his hiding place. The drug lord met with Sean Penn and Mexican actress Kate del Castillo.

Penn's infamous interview with Guzman was published in Rolling Stone in 2015. In the article, the drug lord was quoted boasting about how he supplied "more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats."
Jack Riley, 60, a now-retired DEA agent, told the New York Post that Penn put lives at risk when he met the drug kingpin in 2015. Riley said he came close to arresting El Chapo but was interrupted by Penn and Castillo's visit, the New York Post reported.

“Oh, my God! If I could get my hands on Sean Penn!” Riley, a former top agent with the DEA, told the Post. “The people he put at risk because of that stunt. He should be in jail.”

Katy Perry Issues Apology Over Offensive Shoes and the Shoe has been pulled from the website!
Katy Perry and her fashion line, Katy Perry Collections, have confirmed that shoe designs criticized for resembling blackface were immediately removed from retailers’ websites, TMZ reported Tuesday.

“I was saddened when it was brought to my attention that it was being compared to painful images reminiscent of blackface,” Perry and Global Brands Group, her brand manager in launching Katy Perry Collections, said in a joint statement, according to TMZ.
Perry and Global Brands Group said the shoes — the Rue Face Slip On Loafers and the Ora Face Block Heel Sandal — were released in nine different colors and “envisioned as a nod to modern art and surrealism.”
The leather on the “face” of the loafers and heeled sandals was embellished with identical 3-D eyes, a gold triangle “nose” and bright red lips. The shoes that come in black were the ones that were problematic, in that some thought they resembled classic blackface makeup, according to TMZ. According to the brand’s About Us page, the collection is “designed 100 percent” by Perry.

#BOSS Ciara Launches Her Own Record Label
Russell Wilson reportedly gifted his wife with her original masters to kickstart her new label.
Ciara is launching her own company and music label. The singer announced her plans to start Beauty Marks Entertainment (BME) at the 2019 MAKERS Women's Conference on Feb. 8.

According to Ciara's post on Instagram, BME is "where music intersects with Film, Fashion, Technology & Philanthropy." In other words, the company will function as both an indie record label as well as provide an outlet for Ciara to live out her other passions in the realms of fashion, tech, and philanthropy work.

"This journey has been amazing & I’ve had the time of my life releasing my music under my own label imprint. #LevelUp," she wrote on social media. To kickstart her new project, Russell Wilson reportedly gifted Cici with her original masters from her past and present record labels, Karen Civil reports. The "Level Up" singer also confirmed that she owns the rights to her own musical catalogue during the MAKERS conference.

"The idea of ownership is really important to me and that’s what this phase is about. It’s truly about, let’s really build things to where it can last for a really long time and I can really reap the full benefits of my labor," she stated. "I’ve been in systems and the way the deals are typically structured for us artists, we don’t really get to reap the full financial benefits of our labor. I love what I do. I wake up every day excited to do what I do, even during the toughest times. But at the same time, it’s like, let’s make economic sense of it all as well."

Of the her goals for the label, Ciara told Billboard that she hopes to eventually sign artists one day. "My ultimate goal is to perfect my journey first, and then at some point in time down the line, it would be fun to actually have other artists come along and the idea would be to empower them," she noted. "The idea of ownership is really important to me and that's what this phase is about."

Kim Kardashian Sued for $100 Million for Allegedly Breaching Kimoji Deal
Kim Kardashian West launched her popular Kimojis with the help of an app developer, who says she left him high and dry and screwed him out of serious cash ... as in 9 figures! David Liebensohn claims he and his business partners created an app called CensorOut that caught the attention of Kim, and they eventually agreed to team up on Kimojis ... the animated emojis and GIFs of the Kardashian clan.

According to docs ... Kim agreed to cut Liebensohn and his partners in for 60 percent, and they agreed on a deal in 2014. He claims Kim insisted she would file the trademark paperwork for "Kimoji" to cover the cost and make things simple ... but they were in it together.
That's when it gets weird. In his lawsuit, Liebensohn says in August 2014 -- right around when Kim filed for the trademark -- she informed him one of his partners had shared some of her personal information ... so she was backing out of their deal.
Liebensohn claims Kim and co. lawyered up and tried to pressure him into dropping the case, but he refused. He also says Kim already knew about the alleged sharing of her personal info before they struck a deal ...  and simply used it as an excuse to cancel it.

He's suing Kim for at least $100 mil for breach of contract, fraud and for the profits he believes he's lost by being left out of the Kimoji biz.
