Alicia Keys for GQ Hype UK - September 2020!
Fresh from the release of her seventh studio album, ALICIA, fifteen-time Grammy Award winner and global superstar Alicia Keys covers British GQ’s ‘GQ Hype’.
In the accompanying interview, Keys opens up about her double decade spanning career within the music industry, the campaign demanding justice for Breonna Taylor, and her commitment to fighting power for peace and equality.
On the handling of the Breonna Taylor case:
“There is no justice, there is no regard for the life of a black woman who had an incredibly great future... Breonna was essential to the workforce in Louisville and was a bright, shining star, ready to go higher. She deserves to be alive. She deserves to be able to sleep in her bed and wake up the next morning and continue on with her life. And she deserves for the people who ended her life to be held accountable. So how do I think that they handled it? They didn’t handle it! And that is outrageous and completely unacceptable.”
“Any justice system with laws that allow an innocent woman to be shot six times and be killed by police and no one is held accountable, is an unjust system… This is why we continue to speak out. This is why we have to continually say Black Lives Matter and speak Breonna Taylor’s name so what was done will never be forgotten.” “I'm not sure how long we can go without any justice.”
On over-working as a woman:
“My mother always overworked. Women tend to overwork because we know that we have to get everything done all the time and be responsible for the outcome… But I also just have such a drive and such a desire to do great things. And it's wonderful, but it's also detrimental.”
On the journey to true confidence:
“At the very beginning, I had zero confidence. I mean, I had the confidence that I thought I had. But most of that was kind of put on just to survive the situation.” [True confidence, though?] “When you really can feel comfortable and grounded and like you belong somewhere? That took until much later… the confidence, I think, increased, and also the bravery to stick to what I wanted to say or to feel how I feel and just get it out there.”

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Reacts to Nene Leakes Leaving RHOA with a Special Message!
Earlier this month, Nene Leakes confirmed her exit from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. "I have made the very hard and difficult decision to not be a part of Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 13," Nene said in a YouTube video posted on September 17. "It wasn't an easy decision for me. It was hard."
Now, fans are hearing from Porsha Williams about the departure. Porsha opened up about Nene's exit in the series premiere of Bravo's Chat Room on September 27. Porsha shared that she called Nene after the announcement and revealed some details of their conversation.
"Of course I called her, and of course I'm like, 'Listen, is this forever ever ever? Or is this just for this year?' But either way it goes, listen, I support Nene, and I always [do] no matter our ups or downs. We have [a] big sis, little sis relationship," Porsha shared about the RHOA OG.
Fans will recall that Nene was a cast member in Seasons 1 through 7. She took a couple of seasons off and was back in Season 10. Nene was part of the cast through Season 12, the series' most recent season.
Porsha shouted out that legacy during Bravo's Chat Room: "I always give her the fact that she started this for us in Atlanta."
OG Real Housewives Cast Members React to Nene Leakes' RHOA Departure
Nene reflected on her Real Housewives journey in her YouTube Message earlier this month. "I started on The Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2008. We took off like a rocket. I mean, we took off," she said. "You could have never told me that I [would have] starred on this little show and it still be going strong 13, 14 years later — and it is. I'm just so happy that I can say that I was a part of a genre that opened up doors for Black ensemble reality shows to step up and be a part of what we all now love so much: reality TV."
#MusicNews: Whitney Houston Hologram Surfaces In Virtual Concert!
Houston, we have a problem.
The Whitney Houston hologram that was supposed to debut on “The Voice” four years ago emerged during a virtual concert co-hosted by Scott Storch earlier this month, much to the surprise of fans and Whitney’s own estate.
The hologram of the late singer introduced the “Hologram Icons of American Music” variety show. According to TMZ, Storch teamed up with FilmOn to put on the show, which featured performances from late legends including Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and Michael Jackson, as well as living artists like Ray J and Chief Keef.
The Whitney hologram was slated to perform a duet of “I’m Every Woman” with Christina Aguilera during the 2016 finale of “The Voice,” but was scrapped because it “was not ready to air,” according to Houston’s estate.
FilmOn founder Alki David went back and retooled the image for the “Hologram Icons” show. However, he didn’t get approval from Houston’s estate to release it, and doesn’t feel he needed to.
Whitney’s estate is currently weighing their legal options since this was done without permission.
Last year, the Whitney Houston Estate announced their own plans for a Whitney hologram that would perform her music on tour.

#RIP: Iconic Trailblazing Singer Helen Reddy Dead At Age 78
In an age when women’s rights are increasingly under political attack, the artist who was the voice of the women’s liberation movement of the 1970s has died. Australian singer-songwriter Helen Reddy, best known for her 1971 second-wave feminist anthem “I Am Woman,” died Tuesday at the age of 78. The news comes just one month after the official widespread release of Reddy’s biopic, also titled I Am Woman, and was announced just as the first 2020 presidential debate — where women’s reproductive freedom was one of many hot-button issues up for discussion — was getting underway on Tuesday evening.
Reddy was born into a show business family in Melbourne, Australia, on Oct. 25, 1941, and she began working the Australian vaudeville circuit at age 4 alongside her parents. She journeyed to New York City in 1966 after supposedly winning a contract with Mercury Records on an Australian TV talent show called Bandstand; while that offer turned out to be bogus, the divorced mother remained in the United States with her 3-year-old daughter, Traci, to continue pursuing her music career. She soon met Jeff Wald, a rising young employee at the William Morris Agency, who would become her husband and manager. While Reddy married Wald just three days after meeting him, it would take several more years before she finally found professional success.
The couple later relocated to Los Angeles, where Wald began managing successful male recording artists like classic rock band Deep Purple and ukulele-strumming novelty act Tiny Tim — while neglecting his wife’s career. However, after a frustrated Reddy gave him an ultimatum, Wald refocused on her aspirations, eventually persuading Capitol Records executive Artie Mogull to give Reddy a chance. Although Reddy’s first single for Capitol, the Mac Davis-penned “I Believe in Music,” stiffed, its B-side, a passionate cover of “I Don't Know How to Love Him” from Jesus Christ Superstar, became a surprise hit after radio disc jockeys opted to play that song instead. But it was “I Am Woman,” which also appeared on Reddy’s debut album, I Don't Know How to Love Him, that made Reddy a superstar and feminist icon at age 30.
Reddy co-wrote “I Am Woman” with Australian musician Ray Burton, partially inspired her many personal experiences with misogyny and sexism in the entertainment industry. “Women have always been objectified in showbiz. I'd be the opening act for a comic and as I was leaving the stage he'd say, ‘Yeah, take your clothes off and wait for me in the dressing room, I'll be right there.’ It was demeaning and humiliating for any woman to have that happen publicly,” she told Australia’s Sunday Magazine in 2003. Reddy further explained: “I couldn't find any songs that said what I thought being woman was about. I thought about all these strong women in my family who had gotten through the Depression and world wars and drunken, abusive husbands. But there was nothing in music that reflected that. The only songs were ‘I Feel Pretty’ or that dreadful song ‘Born a Woman.’ These are not exactly empowering lyrics. I certainly never thought of myself as a songwriter, but it came down to having to do it.”
While the original version of “I Am Woman” was not a hit, a May 1972 rerecording touched a nerve and became a smash, selling 1 million copies and going to No. 1 in the States (making Reddy the first Australian singer to top the U.S. charts.), Canada, and Australia by September of that same year. The anthem earned Reddy a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; in her acceptance speech, she controversially thanked God "because She makes everything possible.”
During her career, Reddy landed 15 singles in the Billboard Top 40 (including three No. 1s and six top 10 hits) and 25 singles on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. But it was “I Am Woman” — released during the early 1970s’ burgeoning women’s rights movement, when Gloria Steinem was launching Ms. magazine and Roe v. Wade was headed to the Supreme Court — that had the most lasting impact, with “I am woman, hear me roar” becoming a bumper-sticker catchphrase. National Organization for Women founder Betty Friedan later wrote in the book It Changed My Life: Writings on the Women's Movement that when the song was played at a NOW gala in 1973, "women got out of their seats and started dancing around the hotel ballroom and joining hands in a circle that got larger and larger until maybe a thousand of us were dancing and singing, ‘I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman.’ It was a spontaneous, beautiful expression of the exhilaration we all felt in those years, woman really moving as woman.”
Ironically, Reddy’s career took a downturn after her acrimonious 1982 divorce from the now-very-powerful Wald, who she claimed got her blacklisted in the industry. She announced her retirement from performing in 2002, giving a farewell concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra before adopting a reclusive and reportedly modest and frugal lifestyle in a Sydney apartment. Though she once vowed never to return to the stage, she did begin occasionally performing again in 2012. She memorably appeared at the first annual Women's March on Jan. 21, 2017, introduced by Jamie Lee Curtis and singing an a cappella rendition of “I Am Woman” in front of 750,000 people in downtown Los Angeles. That moment was recreated for the climactic final scene of this year’s biopic I Am Woman, in which Reddy was perfectly portrayed by Australian actress Tilda Cobham-Hervey.
The cause of Reddy’s death was not revealed at press time, but in 2015 it was reported that she had been diagnosed with dementia and was living at the Motion Picture and Television Fund's Samuel Goldwyn Center nursing home in Los Angeles. Reddy is survived by her daughter, Traci (from her first marriage to musician Kenneth Claude Weate), and her son with Wald, Jordan. A statement from Reddy’s two children was posted to her official fan page Tuesday afternoon, reading: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy, on the afternoon of September 29th 2020 in Los Angeles. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”
Donald Trump Refuses To Condemn White Supremacists At Presidential Debate!
Trump namechecks Proud Boys as he refuses to condemn white supremacists in debate – video
Donald Trump declined to condemn white supremacists and violent rightwing groups during a contentious first presidential debate, instead urging a far-right group known for street brawling to “stand by” and arguing that “somebody’s got to do something” about the left.
The president was asked repeatedly by the moderator, Chris Wallace, to condemn violence by white supremacists and rightwing groups, such as armed militias, as well as criticizing leftwing protesters.

Instead, Trump addressed the Proud Boys, a far-right group whose members have been sentenced to prison for attacking leftwing protesters in political street fights, and said: “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by! But I’ll tell you what, somebody’s got to do something about antifa and the left.”
The Proud Boys, whose uniform is a black polo shirt, immediately celebrated the president’s comment in posts on social media platform Telegram. One Proud Boys group added the phrase “Stand Back, Stand By” to their logo. Another post was a message to Trump: “Standing down and standing by sir.”
Experts who study extremist groups said Trump’s message was dangerous, and could encourage additional violence.
“A green light like ‘stand back and standby’ is catastrophic,” Kathleen Belew, a historian of American white power movements, wrote on Twitter.
Trump “owes America an apology or an explanation. Now,” Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which monitors American extremists groups, wrote on Twitter.
The ADL classifies the Proud Boys as an extremist group with a misogynistic, Islamophobic, transphobic and anti-immigrant ideology, and notes that some of its members endorse white supremacist ideas. The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies it as a hate group.
In 2019, a New York judge who sentenced two Proud Boys members to prison for assaulting leftwing protesters after an event in New York City said that cracking down on political violence was essential.
“I know enough about history to know what happened in Europe in the 30s when political street brawls were allowed to go ahead,” the judge said at the Proud Boys’ sentencing, the New York Post reported.
Antifa is a broad term for ideologically aligned anti-fascist individuals and small groups but it is not a distinct organization in any sense.
About 1,000 supporters of the Proud Boys, some armed, rallied in Portland, Oregon, last weekend.
'Will you shut up, man?': Biden and Trump clash in first US presidential debate – video
Trump has repeatedly dog-whistled racist groups and expressed support for protesters seeking to keep Confederate monuments up on America’s streets. In the wake of violent far-right and neo-Nazi protests in Charlottesville in 2017 – in which one counter-protester was killed – Trump said there “were very fine people, on both sides”.
Many observers said that Trump’s remarks prompted glee among Proud Boys’ members. “Proud Boys in social media groups are going wild about the ‘Stand back and stand by’ comment. They are basically seeing it as acknowledgment and a call to arms,” said the NBC reporter Ezra Kaplan.
Trump’s refusal to condemn the group prompted outrage among progressives.
After the debate, Biden, who has said Trump’s Charlottesville comments spurred him to run for the presidency, tweeted:
“Donald Trump is a white supremacist,” wrote the New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter. “People have been warning about this for a long time. They were ridiculed, called hyperbolic & radical –not bc they were wrong, but bc others couldn’t accept that our country elected a supremacist as President.
“This is fascism at our door.”
Rashida Tlaib, the Democratic congresswoman from Michigan, echoed: “An important reminder that while racism is being debated, Donald Trump, a white supremacist, just told them to stand by. This again shows he is dangerous.”
Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris, also condemned the president’s refusal to disavow white supremacists. “The president of the United States, in the year of our Lord 2020, refuses to condemn white supremacists,” she said.
And BelΓ©n Sisa, the former Latino press secretary for Bernie Sanders, said: “When someone shows you who they really are believe them.”
Gabrielle Union & NBC Reach “Amicable Resolution” Over America’s Got Talent Discrimination Claims!
Nearly a year after Gabrielle Union’s firing from NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” a settlement has been reached between the two parties, according to reports.
Gabrielle Union’s prompt exit from the show sparked both curiosity and investigation into claims of a “toxic culture,” and diversity issues. On Nov. 22, Union’s team was notified that she would not be returning as a judge for the following season.
Following her departure, Gabrielle Union revealed alleged experiences that happened while on the set of AGT, citing Simon Cowell’s alleged illegal smoking and being told on several occasions that her hairstyles were “too black”.
Union filed a complaint with California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing after her departure and an investigation was launched but the probe found no derogatory remarks about Gabrielle Union’s appearance.
Still, a joint statement made Tuesday Sep. 29, by NBC and Union provides clarification on a resolution between both parties:
“We’ve reached an amicable resolution. NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds can be treated with respect.”
What are your thoughts on the amicable resolution?
‘Lion King’ Sequel Officially In The Works With Director Barry Jenkins!
A little over a year since releasing the hugely profitable CGI reboot of the 1994 animated classic, Walt Disney Studios has confirmed a sequel is in the works.
The Oscar-winning screenwriter and director of “Moonlight,” Barry Jenkins, will direct, and Jeff Nathanson, who scripted the 2019 “Lion King,” will also write the sequel, Deadline reported.
“This. Yes, THIS,” Jenkins, 40, tweeted on Tuesday, linking to the Deadline article.
The new installment will use the same photorealistic technology director Jon Favreau utilized for last year’s production and 2016’s “Jungle Book” reboot.
There’s no word yet on the release date or the cast. In 2019’s “Lion King,” voice actors included the likes of BeyoncΓ©, James Earl Jones, John Oliver, Donald Glover, Amy Sedaris and Chance the Rapper, with original music by Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer.
While the original animated film’s 1998 sequel, “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride,” focused on Simba’s daughter’s romance with a male lion from a pride once affiliated with Simba’s evil uncle Scar, the upcoming sequel will focus more on characters’ origins. Deadline reported that the story will “further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story.”
While the remake destroyed opening weekend records last July and topped a Disney-dominated summer box office, not everyone was a fan of its futuristic animation style. Some critics found it to be astonishing, but animators of the old-school original critiqued that the characters’ eyes lacked emotion and that the performances felt weak and wooden.
“There is a huge resentment against these 3-D remakes from the original 2-D crews,” one animator who worked on the 1994 film told the Huffington Post last summer. “Maybe if we got any kind of royalties it would be different,” an anonymous animator added.
Kobe Bryant Helicopter Crash Photos Has Lead to A New California Law!
California has passed a new bill following the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven other people.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new bill on Monday (September 28) making it illegal for first responders to take unauthorized photos of the deceased at crime scenes. The bill will go into effect on January 1, 2021.
The legislation would make it a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum $1,000 fine per violation, for a first responder to take a photo “for any purpose other than an official law enforcement purpose or a genuine public interest,” according to The Wrap.
The new bill was prompted by lawmakers after deputies in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department took unauthorized photos of Kobe and the others at the site of their helicopter crash back in January, and were shared outside of the investigation, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Frank Ocean Launches Voter Registration Initiative!
Frank Ocean is encouraging people to visit his Blonded website and register to vote. As the first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden came to a close, Ocean shared an Instagram story encouraging people to vote Trump out:
Debates are on. It all feels fake. The problem’s that it’s not. Donald is president and might not leave the White House even if he loses the race so some say. Pls vote. Watching him dragged out will be way more entertaining than these debates. If you’re not registered swipe up to blonded.co the form just takes 2 minutes to fill out. Goodnight.
This isn’t the first time Ocean has encouraged his fans to vote. In 2018, he shared a series of Midterm election special radio shows where he encouraged listeners to vote. Yesterday, Tyler, the Creator released a video announcing that he’s planning to vote for the first time during this election and encouraged his fans to vote as well.
Hugh Jackman's Wife Deborra-Lee Furness Addresses Rumors About His Sexuality!
Hugh Jackman's wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, is calling out the tabloids.
During the Sept. 29 episode of Anh's Brush With Fame, the 64-year-old actress addressed rumors about her husband's sexuality, suggesting she doesn't pay attention to the "mean-spirited" tabloid reports and noting "it's all made up."
"He's been gay so many years," she said with a laugh in a video shared by The Daily Mail. "I was gay, too. You know when I did Shame? I was gay. They were shocked when I got married."
When asked if the speculation was annoying, Furness replied, "It's just wrong. It's like someone saying to Elton John, 'He's straight.' I'm sure he'd be pissed."
Furness and Jackman met on the set of the Australian TV show Correlli in 1995. According to Furness, the two had an "instant connection." In fact, she said Jackman knew she was the one after just two weeks.
"We just had this amazing connection," she said. "And I feel blessed that I experienced, that I feel like I met my soulmate, whatever that is."
By 1996, they were married, with Furness calling their vows the best wedding she'd ever been to. And, their romance has only gotten better.
"When you find a partner in crime that you share and you grow together—and life is tough as we know it, it's not all good—and when you have someone there that is so supportive…you can really stand buck naked. You have to," she said. "When you've got kids and life and whatever, you stand there buck naked, authentic, warts and all, this is who it is, and you're loved, there's nothing better."
However, she admitted she gets tired of people saying she's "lucky" to be with the 51-year-old actor. "Lucky? Like I won a chook raffle." she said. "People don't realize that it's actually rude to say that. But yeah...[that's]because he's the stud muffin. But that's show biz and Hollywood and the brand of Hugh Jackman."
Even after Jackman was named People's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2008, Furness didn't let this get to his head and told her husband to continue doing his chores. As she put it, "Hey, Sexy, your turn for the garbage."
Watch the video here to see other parts of the interview, including the portion where she explained why she initially advised Jackman to turn down the part of Wolverine. As she put it, "That's the only time in our relationship I've ever been wrong, OK?"
Oh Lord, Now Jaguar Wright Outs Diddy!
For the past few months 90s Neo-Soul artist Jaguar Wright has gone on a scorched earth mission to destroy her music industry peers by revealing long held secrets [click here if you missed that].
Now Jaguar turns her focus on Sean Diddy Combs...
In a video posted on Instagram Jaguar claims a woman who was once poised to become the head of the legal department for Bad Boy Entertainment was forced out of her position and ran out of town after walking in on the Bad Boy CEO being serviced by a certain pretty boy R&B singer. Then Jaguar demanded he apologize for ruining so many careers and depriving the world of good music while he pushed trash on the masses. She also claimed he learned his tactics from his music industry mentors.
NBA Youngboy Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges!
Rapper NBA Youngboy arrested in his home town Baton Rouge on the set of his latest video on gun and drug charges...
From WBRZ
A total of 16 people were arrested Monday night in East Baton Rouge Parish, including the rapper NBA YoungBoy.
According to booking information, the Baton Rouge rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was arrested on drug charges on Monday, Sept. 28.
Police were called to an abandoned property on Chippewa Street around 4:30 p.m. in response to reports of a large group of individuals brandishing firearms and filming a video, according to arrest records.
Those involved were identified as members of two street gangs, 'Never Broke Again' and 'Bottom Boy Guerillas,' according to police.
When officers arrived to the scene, three people ducked behind vehicles and fled the lot. The others were seen going to vehicles, opening doors, and shutting them before walking toward police.
Those who fled were later apprehended about a block away from the scene. They were each detained in the back of police units due to a large crowd forming in the area.
BRPD says officers were given permission to search three of the seven vehicles at the scene. Authorities found about three grams of marijuana and one dose of Hydrocodone in a clear bag inside the vehicles. A judge signed a search warrant for the remaining vehicles, which led officers to discover several handguns and rifles, including an AK-47. Officers also found more marijuana, digital scales, and Xanax.
Police said another seven firearms were found in the grass nearby, including one stolen out of Texas.
According to police records, the marijuana was packaged for distribution and the scales found at the scene are used for packaging and selling narcotics. Additionally, the individuals had large amounts of cash on their persons, which was seized. Gaulden, known as NBA YoungBoy, was carrying more than $47,000 at the time alone, officers said.
Mariah Carey Reveals The Chapters of Her Memoir She Read to Her Kids!
Mariah Carey's highly anticipated memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, has officially been released, and her new album The Rarities not too far behind. Fans can finally read, in detail, all of the stories about the ups and downs in Mariah's professional and personal lives that have helped shape her into the person she is today.
In releasing her memoir, Carey shared on social media, "Butterflies in my stomach but pride in my heart. Tears of joy for little Mariah whose story gets to be heard for the first time. I've been waiting for today my entire life."
To celebrate the release of the book she's been waiting to share with the world, the star sat down with iHeartRadio's Angie Martinez during the exclusive The Meaning of Mariah Carey: Looking In. An iHeartRadio conversation with Mimi, where she opened up about The Meaning of Mariah, The Rarities and so much more.
During the special, Mariah talked about two very important chapters she read to her children, "Coloring Outside The Lines" and "A Girl's Best Friend," which talk about racism and being bullied as a young girl. She explained, "There's one chapter called 'Coloring Outside the Lines' that I read for the kids that I feel is very important in terms of their understanding of who they are as black children, who are also mixed. And, then there's a chapter called 'A Girl's Best Friend' about when I was taken out of my element by a group of girls and then bullied and the N word was used profusely."
Mariah added, "And the parents didn't intervene and the parents felt the same way, and that's difficult. So when people think, 'Oh my gosh, she has it easy, you know, she's light skinned or whatever, she's mixed, blah, blah, blah.' Guess what? What I grew up in, in terms of all the white neighborhoods, that was not a plus. I was in the close proximity to whiteness where my mother already explained to me, 'No, there's a caste system where you're higher than someone, depending on your degree of whiteness and Protestant-ness, whatever it is. And we're still in that situation.' And like I said, my book was locked months ago. I haven't been able to change anything. I knew what the subject matter [was that] I was dealing with."
Elsewhere in the special, Martinez read a passage from The Meaning of Mariah Carey that told the story about trying to sneak past her security while hanging out with Da Brat one evening to get some french fries. Mimi added of the memory, "The end of it, where we're actually at Burger King and she was like, 'I can't believe you are Mariah Carey and you're not even allowed to have a five minute reprieve. Like, you know, basically she was like, you got to get out of this moment. Like, this is not okay for anybody."
The feeling of this control over her life trickled into the recording studio as she recalled ruffling some feathers with her song "Looking In" from her 1995 Daydream album. Mariah explained, "I got in trouble and I'm going to use that terminology because, you know, he got mad at me for being honest in a song. I was very real; 'She smiles through a thousand tears/ And harbors adolescent fears/ She dreams of all that she can never be.' When he heard it, he was like, 'Why would you say those things?' I'm like, 'Because this is how I feel.' And I wrote that song in 15 minutes. But it's like, when I would talk to somebody out there, I would say, please check in with your creative self or your center. It's hard when someone is that much in control of your life, there doesn't feel like there's any safe place that just doesn't feel like there is one ... I didn't have one.
She added, "So try to create that for yourself, is what I would say to that girl, if I could go back and say that to myself or anybody out there that's listening that needs that. Just check in with yourself and be like, 'How am I really feeling? Is this okay for me?' You have to matter. That's one thing I learned the meaning that we're talking about, the meaning, like you have to mean something to yourself. And for a long time, I didn't know how to make that happen. I didn't feel worthy of existing or I didn't know what it meant to be 'Mariah Carey.' It was a very difficult time."
The Meaning of Mariah Carey is out now, and The Rarities is set to be released on Friday (October 2nd).
Da Brat Surprises LisaRaye For Her Birthday On ‘Cocktails With Queens,’ And It Goes Left Quick!
Da Brat surprised LisaRaye on her Cocktails with Queens, and it did not go as planned. Unbeknownst to her co-hosts, it was apparent right away that the two had not been on the best of terms for some time.
LisaRaye was extremely shocked when Da Brat joined the virtual conversation and immediately began to cry. Da Brat explained that the two have not seen each other since COVID-19 has hit but that there is still love between them.
Around the six-minute mark, LisaRaye, who was obviously frustrated with the rapper for keeping her private life private after finding out she came out from the tabloids, finally spoke on how she felt, and things got awkward fast.
“I just want to know that you happy. And I did not want to just hear it from the blogs and from the interviews of people asking me questions, and I didn’t know what to say because I didn’t hear it from you,” LisaRaye said. “I got to see it someplace else. So I’m hurt. That’s what I am.”
“I just wish that I was included in that. I wish that I knew what that was. I wish that I could have a say in that myself. I wish that I knew what was going on, but I don’t. So then I sit, and I wait,” she continued. “But, I will say this — I am happy for you, I am glad that you are living in your truth, that right there we been talking about for years… I damn sure haven’t heard from you in months.”
Things took an even more awkward turn when LisaRaye started dropping f-bombs and letting her co-hosts know that she doesn’t care what they think, adding that she is hurt.
Da Brat came out in March, confirming her relationship with Kaleidoscope Hair Products CEO Jessica Dupart via a sweet Instagram post showing off her early birthday gift — a brand new Bentley, complete with a red bow.
Hopefully, the two sisters can work things out.
Naya Rivera's Sister Responds To Reports That She Moved In With Her Ex!
Eyebrows were raised when word spread that Naya Rivera's sister Nickayla and her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey are living together to raise the late Glee star's son, Josey. Now, the sibling has come forward to seemingly speak on the controversy.
In an Instagram Story, which was shared on Monday (September 28), Nickayla, 25, emphasized her support system amid her grieving period. "In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends & family," she wrote. "Showing up for my nephew, even though I can't show up for myself. Im not concerned with the ways things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure."
Elsewhere in the post, she went on to ask for “compassion,” writing, "What matters most I've learned, is to show compassion, not to judge others and never take a moment for granted. I hope you all can do the same."
In a new report from ET, a source close to the situation confirmed that Nickayla and Ryan, 37, are indeed living with one another, but not involved romantically. "Since the devastating loss of Naya, Ryan’s role in parenting has of course been amped up," an insider said. "He's the primary caregiver, but has been relying very heavily on Nickayla. He would not be able to do this without her help and involvement."
As you know, Rivera drowned in Lake Piru, California during a boating outing with Josey. As the story goes, the two went out for a swim at the lake, but something went awry with the boat and Rivera boosted her son back onto the craft and disappeared under the water. She was 33.
