The Daily Buzz For Feb 27

Jurnee Smollett-Bell Is Retro Glam On ‘Ebony’ Cover
The 'Underground' actress opens up about season two of her hit show, and more.

On the heels of the second season premiere of her hit WGN show Underground (returning March 8th,) Jurnee Smollett-Bell is serving up some fierce, retro glamour realness on the cover of Ebony magazine’s March issue.
To celebrate the annual Women’s History Month this March, Ebony magazine has selected Smollett-Bell as its cover girl. Set against a soft pink background recalling the presence of spring, she’s clad in a blue jumpsuit and a retro, faux bob hairstyle.

In an exclusive, in-depth interview, she opens up about being a former child star, her hit TV series, activism and more in the issue that’s on newsstands now.
There are many gems dropped by Smollett-Bell in the interview, as she shows a refreshingly candid side. Here are some of the highlights:

On being a child star:
“I wouldn’t even call myself a former child star. I was a child actor; there’s a difference,” she explains. “People look at you and they think they know you. They think they can place you in a certain category by what they think they know about you. But there’s so much more to all of us than what we know and what we see at face value.”

On ‘Underground’:
“I think we had seen the occupation so much, we wanted to see the revolution and that is what ‘Underground’ is,” says the actress, who plays Rosalee on the show. “It was the story of the uprising. It was the story of those of us who fought back, who attempted to fight for their freedom,” she explains. “That was a side of the story we were hungry to see in order to understand our whole history.”

On being underestimated in the industry:
“Rosalee was underestimated, and I think that’s one of the [ways] I can relate to her. That’s something I’ve struggled with my entire life—people underestimating me,” the actress explains. “But also there’s a fire inside of her that sometimes she doesn’t even understand. There’s this inner strength that she has and in season 2; it’s almost like a manic strength, another superwoman strength.”

Love her this episode is on newsstands now.

#RHoA: Shereé Whitfield would Choose Brad Pitt Over Bob Whitfield? LOL!
Shereé Whitfield and her ex, Bob Whitfield, have been hanging out together this season on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. And the former football pro hasn't been shy about letting his one-time love know that the flames of their romance still burn bright for him. So when the RHOA mom recently stopped by The Daily Dish HQ, we just had to know if given the chance to rekindle her romance with Bob or pursue a new one with some of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, which option she would pick.

And, we didn't make it easy for Shereé. She had to pick from the likes of Brad Pitt, Shemar Moore (sorry, Phaedra!), John Mayer, Drake, Lenny Kravitz, Idris Elba, and Taye Diggs. We mean that is a lot of hot to pick from. So, who did Shereé pick?

SADNESS! Actor Bill Paxton Dead At Age 61
Bill Paxton, the prolific and charismatic actor whose many memorable roles included an astronaut in "Apollo 13" and a treasure hunter in "Titanic," has died from complications due to surgery. He was 61.
Paxton, a Fort Worth, Texas, native, appeared in dozens of movies and television shows and seemed to be around when history was made both on and off screen. As a boy, he was in the crowd that welcomed President John F. Kennedy in Texas on the morning of Nov. 22, 1963, hours before Kennedy was killed in Dallas. As a young man, he worked in the art department for "B'' movie king Roger Corman, who helped launch the careers of numerous actors and filmmakers.

Paxton's movie credits included some of the signature works of the past 40 years, from "Titanic" and "Apollo 13" to "The Terminator and "Aliens." Television fans knew him for his role as the polygamist, with three wives who expected the best from him, in the HBO series "Big Love," for which he received three Golden Globe nominations.
"Bill Paxton was a big-hearted, thoughtful and honorable person," his "Big Love" co-star Chloe Sevigny said in a statement. "He always had a smile on his face and could entertain any room with his wonderful stories of his many amazing years in Hollywood."

Paxton was currently starring in the CBS drama "Training Day," which premiered Feb. 2. The network has not yet announced whether it will continue to air the completed episodes.
Paxton brought a reliably human dimension to big-budget action adventures and science fiction. He was, sci-fi fans like to point out, the only actor killed by a Predator, a Terminator and an Alien.
But Paxton, famously genial and well-liked throughout Hollywood, defined his career less by his marquee status than as a character actor whose regular Joes appeared across the likes of "One False Move," ''A Simple Plan" and "Nightcrawler."
Paxton often spoke warmly of his upbringing, and how his father exposed him early to movies and the stage. His father, John Paxton, also shared his son's knack for being around famous people. A childhood neighbor was the artist Thomas Hart Benton. John Paxton later belonged to the same golfing club as the great Ben Hogan, whom Bill Paxton got to know growing up.

One of the industry's busiest actors, Paxton once said the hardest part of his career wasn't the work itself, but the time in between.

"You know all the time I've been in this business which is a long, long time now, I go from having incredible days like shooting the part of Sam Houston and then all of a sudden I'm home and I'm out of work and it's two o'clock in the afternoon, I'm in my boxer shorts watching Turner Classic Movies," he told the AP in 2015. "And all I can tell you is, thank God for Turner Classic Movies and Robert Osborn. "

In a statement to the media, representatives for the family wrote:

"It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the art was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father."

R.I.P!

Rachel Dolezal Is Jobless, On Food Stamps, & May End Up Homeless
Remember Rachel Dolezal, the former Spokane NAACP leader, who identified and lived her life as a black woman?
Life has been an uphill battle since she was outed as a white woman, despite landing a book deal to release her memoir, “In Full Color.”
According to The Guardian, Rachel is jobless, on food stamps, and may end up homeless by next month.

Dolezal says the only jobs she’s offered are reality TV and porn.
Today, Dolezal is jobless, and feeding her family with food stamps. A friend helped her pay this month’s rent; next month she expects to be homeless. She has applied for more than 100 jobs, but no one will hire her, not even to stack supermarket shelves. She applied for a position at the university where she used to teach, and says she was interviewed by former colleagues who pretended to have no recollection of having met her. The only work she has been offered is reality TV, and porn. She has changed her name on all her legal documents, but is still recognized wherever she goes. People point at her and laugh.

I wish her the best for the sake of her babies.

Mahershala Ali welcomes first child with wife Amatus Sami-Karim
Oscars weekend is just starting for Mahershala Ali, who is nominated for best supporting actor for Moonlight. But Ali already has reason to celebrate, sharing on Instagram that he and his wife Amatus Sami-Karim welcomed their first child together on Wednesday.

Along with the baby's birthdate, Ali also shared the newborn's name, Bari Najma Ali.
Ali's full name is Mahershalalhashbaz, and in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last month about the couple's baby name deliberations, he promised "something a little bit simpler for our child."
The couple, who married in 2013, first shared their baby news in a December Instagram post.

Well Damn..Derrick Rose Fans Enraged After Newly Acquired Anthony Morrow Chose Rose’s Jersey Number
Veteran guard Anthony Morrow was recently traded to the Chicago Bulls as apart of a deadline deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. While it seems like Morrow was probably expecting a warm welcome from fans, he may have unintentionally rubbed some of them the wrong ways when he chose a certain jersey number.

Via Complex: Sent to the Chicago Bulls as part of a trade deadline swap with the Oklahoma City Thunder, veteran guard Anthony Morrow probably expected a warm welcome from fans in his new home. Perhaps next time he joins a new team, he’ll check if the jersey number he wants has any significance to the city first.
Having worn No. 2 with the Thunder, Morrow made the decision to switch to No. 1 with the Bulls. What he didn’t consider was the man who wore the jersey before him: former MVP and hometown hero Derrick Rose. Despite Rose’s fall from grace on and off the court over the last half decade, he’s still beloved in his hometown by thousands of diehard Bulls fans, and it didn’t sit well for Morrow to claim Rose’s No. 1.
To Morrow’s credit, once he became aware of the situation and saw it could become an issue, he took to Twitter to apologize for the misunderstanding. It doesn’t look like he’ll be wearing No. 1 for much longer.
The blame here probably belongs to the Bulls organization. They’re well aware of Rose’s cult figure status in his hometown, and they could have warned Morrow of the possible backlash he’d face for choosing the number.

But it’s starting to look like the Bulls are intentionally trying to distance themselves from the Rose era; they faced similar scorn last fall when they tried to give the jersey number to newcomer Michael Carter-Williams, who ended up turning it down. He too had to clarify his respect for Rose’s significance to Chicago.
“I know this organization respects Derrick Rose,” Carter-Williams told reporters at the time. “It has nothing to do with stepping on anyone’s toes or anything like that. (Rose) was a great player. He did a lot for this city.”

Leslie Jones Under Fire After Making Joke About White Women Supporters Of Black Lives Matter
Leslie…that wasn’t funny.

In a stand up comic routine last night in New York City, Leslie Jones, 49, said, “If I see another 45-year-old white woman from Williamsburg saying, ‘black lives matter,’ I’m going to punch you in the mouth.”
Leslliieeeee…
The Saturday Night Live cast member referred to Williamsburg, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, because of its notoriety for American hipster culture and apparently its ongoing support for the BLM movement.

Offended users took to Twitter claiming the joke was racist (sorry guys black people can’t be racist) and are outraged that the Ghostbusters star would make a joke like that.
Yikes…..What were you thinking?

Ladies Trevor Donovan Strips Down to Recreate Photo Shoot from 2004!
Trevor Donovan is stripping down to his birthday suit to recreate a photo shoot that he did back in 2004!
The 38-year-old actor was just 25 in the original photos and he has clearly packed on even more muscle over the years.

In two of the photos, Trevor is seen wearing nothing at all while lounging on a couch. In the other picture he leans against a wall with his shirt unbuttoned and his ripped abs on display.
Trevor rose to fame with a role on The CW’s hit series 90210 and he can be seen on CMT’s new series Sun Records, which airs on Thursday nights. He plays the role of Eddy Arnold, one of the first country music stars who crossed over into the pop world.
