NYC Names Bronx Street After Kalief Browder
Street renamed in Browder's honor on what would've been his 24th birthday
Kalief Browder, a Bronx, New York, man who committed suicide after spending years in solitary confinement at just 16, will have a street named in his honor.
According to a press release, Council Member Ritchie Torres unveiled the new street sign on what would’ve been Browder’s 24th birthday.
“Renaming a street that will bear his name is not merely an honor for him. It will stand as a moral inspiration to the rest of us,” Torres said Thursday. “The virtue of one’s life is measured by the impact that one has on others. Those of you who knew Kalief are better people for having known him. And those of us who knew of Kalief are better for having been awakened and inspired by his struggle for justice.”
Torres was joined by Council Speaker Mark-Viverito and members of Browder’s family.
“This is our family’s second year, since Kaliefs untimely death [and] dealing with the loss that not only affects us but everyone who took heart to his story,” Browder’s older brother, Akeem Browder said. “And all that will gather for this street re-naming we can all look up and see ‘Kalief Browder Way’ and think of the legacy he left for us to continue.”
The new street sign, “Kalief Browder Way,” will hang on the northwest corner of E. 181st St. and Prospect Ave.
Since Browder’s death, New York City has worked to clear backlogs in state courts, establish a citywide bail fund and ended solitary confinement for 16- and 17-year-olds
Last month, Gov. Bill de Blasio announced the closing of Rikers Island, the facility where Browder was detained. That same month, Sean “Jay Z” Carter in collaboration with Spike TV, produced a documentary on Kalief’s life and legacy, and the impact of his death on America.

The mother of two is set to star in a surprising new show.
Though she’s been fired from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Phaedra Parks has no plans to fade into obscurity.
First, the mother of two, 43, will star in an episode of USA’s Big Star Little Star with son Ayden, 7 — but she’ll show off her softer side by donating any earnings to charity, a source exclusively told Radar.
After her small screen gig, the Bravo alum will play Mother Teresa by focusing on her own nonprofit for children.
“Phaedra is currently working on her Phaedra Foundation,” an insider revealed, adding that she’ll also begin working on her home.
“She’s starting the renovation process for the $1.9 million dollar mansion she bought last October,” the insider continued.
The altruistic image will be a far cry from Parks’ reputation on the last season’s reunion, where she was caught in a vicious lie about Kandi Burruss and Porsha William, 35. (She spread a rumor that Burruss, 41, and her husband Todd Tucker attempted to rape and drug Williams after a wild night out.)
To her fans! She’s not going anywhere.
#EMPIRE: The Finale Recap: Was It an Unforgettable End to Season 3?
Roughly 15 minutes into Empire‘s Season 3 finale on Wednesday it’s revealed that Andre and Shyne are planning to murder Lucious not with a bullet but with a bomb. What’s more, the I.E.D. is slated to be detonated outside of an event space (in this case a casino) following a musical performance. The eerie and, of course, unintended parallel to this week’s horrific terror attack in Manchester was impossible to ignore, and it remained so as the episode built to the inevitable, explosive climax. Should Fox have pulled — or at the very least tweaked — the episode in light of recent events? I don’t have the answer to that. But I do know it was challenging to escape into the fictitious, heightened world of Empire when the episode’s central threat involved a bomb going off outside of a concert venue.

Luscious ‘copter’d off to Vegas with Giuliana for the launch of Leviticus Resort & Casino, but made sure to keep his mother — fresh off of murdering Tariq — heavily guarded back at the Lyon Estate, just in case she has another “episode.” The captive life is not sitting well with her though. “I’m not having an episode,” she scolds her son, before reminding him, “I put steel in the skull of your enemy.”
Crazy Leah then makes eye contact with Corpse Tariq and alerts her security detail, “It’s not sanitary to keep that in here.” (Side note: How much fun is Leslie Uggams having with this role?)
We quickly learn that there’s a method to Mama L’s madness when she invites Anika over to the house to retrieve her mail and, more importantly, smear her fingerprints all over the nearby letter opener (aka the murder weapon). Next thing you know Boo Boo K is getting framed for Tariq’s murder.
Prior to Anika’s arrest, Hakeem — who suspects his baby mama may know more about their daughter Bella’s whereabouts than she’s been letting on — follows her right into the vestibule of the Dubois Estate. His suspicions prove spot-on when he spots Bella on the premises. Yep, Anika’s known for (presumably) some time that little Bella has been in the unlawful care of vengenance-fueled baby-napper Diana. Hakeem’s pissed, but he’s mostly just relieved Bella’s A-OK. Diana promises Bella will remain “safe and sound” if and only if he does her bidding (i.e. helps her take down his family). He seems shockingly cool with this arrangement.
Even more shocking? When Hakeem informs the rest of his family that Bella has been found not a single one of them — not Cookie, not Lucious, not Jamal — press him about where the hell she’s been all this time. It all feels very rushed.
The episode’s big twist arrives at the midway point when Lucious announces to Giuliana — with Cookie looking on — that he’s been using her all along. He needed her help getting through Vegas’ front door but, now that he’s inside, he’s cutting her out of the whole equation. He dumps her on the spot, professes his love for Cookie and then surprises his soul mate half with orchestra seats to the opening of When Cookie Met Lucious.
Cookie’s beside herself with joy, so much so that she nearly forgets all about her and Andre’s plan to disrupt Lucious’ big night by inciting a riot inside the concert venue. She orders Shyne to “call off your boys” just in the nick of time. Of course, Cookie doesn’t know the side deal Shyne and Andre hatched to murder Lucious. Speaking of which…
Andre later experiences his own change of heart when Daddy Dearest announces that he and Cookie are essentially retiring from the business to travel the globe and they’re giving their eldest son the “keys to the kingdom —literally.” It’s everything Andre always wanted, so, naturally, he orders Shyne to drop the bomb plot. But Shyne refuses. “You started it,” he shouts. “I’m going to finish it.”
Cut to Andre racing to the front of the casino to get Lucious and Cookie out of harm’s way before their car explodes… but he’s (sorta) too late. Cookie’s escapes injury but Lucious is critically injured. And, after jumping forward three months, we learn than he remains in a coma under the care of a very hands-on nurse that looks a lot like Demi Moore (because it is Demi Moore). In the closing seconds, Lucious wakes up and pretty much declares, “I’ve got amnesia, y’all!”
Other highlights/musings:
* A very married Charlotte is aghast when Andre informs her that he recorded them getting it on and plans to use it as a weapon of mass extortion.
* Diana has dispatched another, heretofore unseen son of hers (also Taye Diggs-level hot) to woo Jamal, all part of her Lyon Takedown plan.
* What was the deal with Moore’s nurse? And why didn’t Cookie and the rest of the family have more of a reaction when she proceeded to go to first base with him while he was asleep? And why isn’t she “at liberty” to disclose his test results? Until Season 4…

Chris Brown closed out his “Party Tour” on Tuesday (May 23) in Los Angeles, where he brought out a more surprise guests, including Jeremih and Bryson Tiller.
Now, as he gets ready to prep for the release of his anticipated new album, Heartbreak on a Full Moon, the internet continues to bless fans with some more unreleased tracks from the R&B superstar.
Following the previously unreleased “Parachute” with Sevyn Streeter, and his Nas-assisted remix to Chinx Drugs “Die Young,” a new collaborative track has surfaced.
“Surprise You (The Life)” finds Breezy teaming up with his friends Ty Dolla $ign and Kid Ink for a catchy mid-tempo track about spoiling their ladies.
“I want to run up a check on you girl / Finesse the plug tonight,” sings Chris. “She love it, she lovin’ the life.”
The track isn’t expected to be on Brown’s new album, which may or may not be a double album, and it expected out this summer.

During her interview, the “No Fux” singer also shared her love for the Hugh Hefner-founded brand. “Every day I wear a little Playboy pendant around my neck,” she said. “I always have it. Man Arrested for Criminal Trespassing at Rihanna's Apartment Building
A man was arrested Tuesday at a New York City apartment building where Rihanna has a penthouse.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed to E! News that 33-year-old Salmir Feratovic was booked for criminal trespassing. The spokesperson said he had visited the residence before and was told then he was not allowed to return. He has not commented.
Authorities made no mention of Rihanna. In March, a man by the same name had commented on a news story about the singer that was posted on Facebook, writing, "Why she is not with me?"
Feratovic has multiple prior arrests, including one from May 2016 in which he was arrested for criminal trespassing at the same location.
BAD NEWS: Netflix Cancels ‘The Get Down’
First, the Fat Boys break up…now Netflix has canceled “The Get Down” after one season!
The news of the cancellation is shocking as well as disappointing especially considering the fact that Baz Luhrmann was confident there would be a second season.
Earlier this spring, Baz told Vulture:
To be honest, we have already developed the opening of the next season. Sony and Netflix have been very driven about having a second season.
There has been no question about that. They really want it.
Following the cancellation, Baz Luhrmann changed his tune.
He took to Facebook and penned a lengthy letter to fans where he admitted movies are really his thing and unfortunately, his schedule wouldn’t allow him to totally commit to a new season.
When I was asked to come to the center of ‘The Get Down’ to help realize it, I had to defer a film directing commitment for at least two years.
This exclusivity has understandably become a sticking point for Netflix and Sony, who have been tremendous partners and supporters of the show.
It kills me that I can’t split myself into two and make myself available to both productions… But the simple truth is, I make movies.
Welp. Another great show lost! I can’t front – my feelings are hurt about this.
“The Get Down” is…was a fantastic series that deserved several more seasons.
Leslie Jones Is Your 2017 Bet Awards Host!
BET just snagged Saturday Night Live’s Leslie Jones to give the BET Awards a bit more zing!
The 2017 BET Awards are just a month away and with Leslie Jones on board to host, it looks like we are in for some real thrills for the event’s 17th annual year. Though we watch Jones kill it every single Saturday on SNL, this will be the first time (hopefully of many) where she will host a nationally televised entertainment awards show. Seriously, with all of the drama that has gone down at BET over the past several months, it was a dope move for them to bring Leslie Jones on as this year’s host.
In a press release, Jones said, “I am so excited to be hosting The BET Awards this year, BET was the first network and place where I was on TV – I am looking to turn this whole experience into a joyful homecoming.” From Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Issa Rae, Mahershala Ali and Serena Williams all of your absolute favs are nominated this year. Mo’Nique Gives Adrienne Bailon The “Classy” Clapback!
By now you’ve probably seen Mo’Nique on stage ranting about Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey and Lee Daniels. On top of telling them to “suck my d!ck if I had one,” Mo makes it a point to also reveal that she has called Tyler directly to air her grievances — a courtesy Adrienne didn’t extend to Mo’Nique when she railed against her on The Real.

'Boss Baby 2' is Happening in 2021, Alec Baldwin Returning
Get ready for Boss Baby 2!
The sequel to box office smash is set to hit theaters on March 26, 2021, Dreamworks announced on Thursday (May 25).
Alec Baldwin will be reprising his role as the title character.
Boss Baby was released earlier this year and has already earned $468.4 million. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
Based on Marla Frazee‘s picture-book series and directed by Tom McGrath, Boss Baby centers on a suit-wearing, briefcase-carrying baby who pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.
