The Daily Buzz For March 22

Go Behind the Scenes of Oprah's April 2017 Cover
This month Oprah has a field day.

O magazine creative director Adam Glassman wanted Oprah to have a hills-are-alive moment. He said "I've always wanted to shoot a cover in a field of wild flowers," he told Oprah a few months ago. Her response was exactly what he'd hoped for: "Let's go to Colorado!"
On his first day scouting locations, Adam fell in love with this lush meadow at the base of a snowcapped mountain. And, conjuring up The Sound of Music's opening scene (minus the nun duds), the man got his shot. "There's just something about Telluride," Oprah said as she pored over the photos. "When the sky is this blue and the air this crisp, the only thing you can feel is deep contentment."

The shots are nice! Get more at O

#RHoA: Matt Jordan Claims Peter Thomas Coached Him On How To Get Money From Kenya Moore
Matt Jordan claims that Peter Thomas coached him on how to be compensated by ex girlfriend, Kenya Moore. On Instagram Live, Matt alleges that Peter told him that since he appears on Real Housewives of Atlanta, he should be receiving 10%.

He says Peter told him, Bruh, you need to be asking shorty for at least 10% of what she makes. That’s what our ladies give us.
He says that both Peter and Todd Tucker, Kandi Burruss’ husband, were adamant that he should be paid for appearing on the hit BRAVO show.
They getting all in my ear. And I’m like, y’all girls are different, my lady is different. That’s dangerous. You guys were married. They were like ‘Yo, Matt, you’re her storyline. You deserve monetary compensation.’
Matt also says he was under the impression that he’d make $10,000 for appearing on the reunion.
They’re like you’re gonna make ten bands at the reunion. I brought the conversation back to Kenya, I don’t tell her that they said that.
When asked by one of his followers how he feels about the situation, he says,
I’m really upset that I wasn’t paid. I wasn’t monetarily rewarded.

Matt also recounts on how both Todd and Peter unfairly distanced themselves from him, after claiming to have his back. See the full video HERE

#EMPIRE: Taraji P. Henson Admits She Can’t Do ‘Empire’ Forever: ‘Cookie Wears Me Out!
“Empire” returns this week and the hit series has already been renewed for a fourth season, but that doesn’t mean the show can go on forever — well, at least according to star Taraji P. Henson.

“I could not do this forever. No. Cookie wears me out!” Henson exclaimed during a recent interview with Variety. “She drains me,” the actress adds with a laugh. “She is emotionally all over the place. Those writers, they just keep pushing my emotions with every episode. By the 18th episode [of each season], I’m dead. I got to get far away. I don’t wear animal print. I cut my hair into a bob. I don’t wear a weave because I’ve got to get as far away from Cookie as possible.”
When asked if she has a number of seasons in mind she’d like “Empire” to stay on the air, Henson quips, “Once it’s syndicated — and then I’m like, ‘Thank you. Goodnight!'”

“I learned this from the women of ‘Sex and the City’ — you’ve got to know when to go out. You don’t want to overstay your welcome. You want to go out on a high. You want to be remembered as the number one show on network,” Henson adds. “I’m going to loose my passion, I know me. And Cookie is enough. I can’t do that for so long.”
While playing Cookie is an emotionally-taxing role, Henson wasn’t always confident that her erratic character would resonate with audiences. When she first read the script for “Empire,” she says she was “scared to death.”

“I thought people would hate her,” Henson admits. “Because of the things that she says, it was very risky, because that’s a character that if it’s not handled correctly, it would turn the audience off.”
Henson could have never imagined the success “Empire” would become — many would say, in large part thanks to her Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning performance as Cookie —  but she originally signed onto the Fox pilot because the character frightened her.

“Any role that scares me is a challenge and I don’t back away from challenges. That’s how I pick roles — if it scares me, I have to do it,” she explains. “Cookie scared me a bit and the challenge was, how do I make the audience connect and feel and empathize for her? Once I did that work, I was like, okay, people are either going to love her or hate her. Thank god it worked. Phew!”
It sure did work. “Empire” broke out onto the scene as the highest-rated broadcast series in years, constantly rising in the ratings each consecutive week of its first season. Even though the numbers have dipped throughout its run, the Fox drama still ranks as a top scripted network show, along with NBC’s breakout hit “This Is Us.”

But even with the record-breaking numbers, Henson says she doesn’t pay attention to ratings.
“No. I don’t because I can’t. That would drive me crazy,” she says. “I don’t do it for numbers. Plus, I have people for that,” she chuckles. “Trust me — the night after, I’m getting all kind of updates and I don’t need to look. The numbers find me! Oh god…I just want to do good work. If you do good work, the people are going to come. I believe that. So I don’t sweat about the numbers. That’s someone else’s job.”

Henson admits that the importance placed on overnight ratings is part of the reason why she actually prefers working in film than TV. (This past awards season, she starred in the Oscar-nominated and critically-raved “Hidden Figures.”)
“I’m in a unique position on my television show, ‘Empire,’ because I think sometimes television is kind of corporate, and I’m an artist and my brain doesn’t work like that. What I mean by corporate is that it’s like a government job almost — you’re still acting, but it’s a different set-up,” Henson explains, continuing, “Film, I like better. You have a day to shoot one scene and you get to let it breath, and you have one writer for your character so your character doesn’t feel schizophrenic — sometimes, my characters feel schizo on television because there are so many opinions and so much input…that’s why I like film a little better. One writer, one director, one [studio[ head. Not all those voices.”

While she’s a bit more privy to film work than television, there is still one thing on Henson’s to-do list: directing an episode of “Empire.”
“I feel like I will, but the bug hasn’t hit me yet,” she says when asked if she’d like to direct. “It’s a lot of work. Our show is deep. There are musical numbers. It’s daunting. I don’t know if I could be in it and direct, but that feels like something I should do because I’m an actress and I’m on a television show and you should. Why not? So the answer is yes. I want to learn more.”

“Empire” returns with the rest of Season 3 this Wednesday, March 22 at 9 p.m. on Fox. h/t varierty

Chris Brown reps Only Hood Bosses yet again, joining LO on Casanova’s Be Safe Tho collaboration “OHB.”

With a growl in his voice, Breezy dedicates his verse to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. by referencing some of the region’s stars with clever wordplay. “Hundreds clips and I’m pushin’ Ts,” he raps. “On my Timbaland shit like I made the beat / I’m for real, my ni**a, boy, don’t play with me / Shout out to Missy but ain’t no misdemeanors, we catchin’ felonies.”
LO does the same, focusing his attention on West Coast classics and Tupac Shakur. “Today was a good day,” he raps. “Made a mill off of pills like Dr. Dre / Murder was the case that they gave me / I hit it doggy style, now Brenda got a baby.”

Casanova closes things out with an ode to New York and New Jersey hip-hop. “Let me bust a rhyme for you cats,” he raps. “Shoot up the club, I’m like Shyne with the gat.” Later, he adds: “With that Draco, I’ma kill a ni**a / I’m a gorilla, ni**a.”
Breezy’s collaboration with LO and Cas arrives just before the R&B superstar heads out on his “Party Tour” with 50 Cent, Fabolous, and O.T. Genasis on March 31 in Baltimore.

$7 Million Royalty Battle Settlement Reached With Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder has reached a settlement with his late entertainment attorney’s wife – who accused the musician of screwing her out of millions in royalties he owed — with both parties finalizing a deal to bring the legal battle to an end.
Here’s the latest: Docs have been filed in the case explaining Stevie and Susan Strack are working carefully to finalize a long form settlement agreement and have been in the process of reviewing and calculating payment amounts and backup accounting information.
They believe they will have a finalized deal to present to the court by the end of the month. The docs note the deal is complex and they have been working together to hash it out, without having to go to trial.
Here’s the backstory: Back in 2015, Susan Strack, the widow of Stevie’s late attorney Johanan Vigoda, sued the musician accusing him of screwing her out of royalties owed to her husband.

Strack’s husband represented the musician for 4 decades as his entertainment attorney and signed a deal to pay Vigoda a 6% fee for all revenue brought in for his entire career, which was supposed to transfer to his family when he passed. She sued Stevie for $7 million dollars due to him cease making the royalty payments.

Stevie responded, demanding the suit be tossed explaining he never agreed to pay Vigoda’s family any cut after he passed. He pointed out he could not read many of the contracts put in front of him by his attorney – due to him being blind – and accused the late attorney of adding provisions in the deals without telling him.

Awwwww, Sesame Street Will Introduce Its First Character With Autism in April
Sesame Street has a new resident in town and her name is Julia. She’s creating quite the buzz because she’s the first character with autism.
According to NYDN, Julia was first introduced as a character in Sesame’s books and immediately became a fan favorite, which prompted producers to write her in the show.

In Julia’s first scene Elmo and Abby Cadabby introduce her to Big Bird, but she doesn’t try to shake their hands at first. Elmo explains to Big Bird that because Julia has autism,  “sometimes it takes her a little longer to do things.”
“It’s tricky because autism is not one thing, because it is different for every single person who has autism,” said “Sesame Street” writer Christine Ferraro. “There is an expression that goes, ‘If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.”
What’s interesting about this is that Stacey Gordon, the voice of Julia, has a son.

Uber President Resigns 6 Months After Taking The Job
The last few months have been pretty hard for Uber, so hard the company’s new president couldn’t take it anymore. After serving his post for only six months, Jeff Jones, the president of the rideshare company, has resigned.
Jones joined Uber in September after leaving Target where he was chief marketing officer. The details surrounding Jones’ departure have not been made public, but sources say that it is directly related to the company’s recent controversies.

In a statement to Recode.net, Jones says, “It is now clear, however, that the beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber, and I can no longer continue as president of the ride-sharing business.”
The news comes just days after the company’s CEO, Travis Kalanick, said they’d be hiring a chief operating officer who can help write the company’s “next chapter.”
