One year after threatening to pull the plug on the print edition of Vibe MagazinM Spin Media makes good on its promise…
According to The Wrap: The music and entertainment publication will end run after 21 years
SpinMedia Group slashed 19 employees and shuttered its print edition Tuesday, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.
The layoffs are the latest blow to the struggling company. Vibe, which first began publication in 1993, was acquired by SpinMedia in April 2013 with initial reports that the magazine would be reduced to online-only, much like the group did with SPIN magazine after acquiring it in 2012.
The decision was then made to keep Vibe in print as a quarterly rather than a bimonthly publication. Those plans have now changed.
“If we're not going to be putting together print pages anymore and designing print, we really don't need those design platforms,” CEO Stephen Blackwell explained in an interview with Capital. ”We really don't need the capacity to negotiate with printers.”
Blackwell continued: “When I look at what was going on here prior to my tenure, I think that some of the resources … if we're directing resources toward print, that intrinsically means that we're directing resources away from digital. I'm here to commit to directing all of our resources toward the digital side of Vibe.”
As a webzine, Vibe has seen six to seven million unique visitors per month and has a combined 1.4 million followers on Facebook and Twitter. Capital initially released the announcement about the publication ending its print edition and the 19 layoffs.

Nicki Minaj is having the best week ever, fresh off of sharing the stage with Bey Nicki Minaj called into French radio station Skyrock FM and talked about being overwhelmed by all the love she received from the crowd during the “On the Run Tour.”
Nicki states:
“It was just very emotional for me to be there because I know it was a big show,” said Nicki, who performed “Flawless (Remix)” with Queen Bey on Friday and Saturday. “It was the last bit of shows for Beyoncé and Jay Z, so I was very honored to be a part of it.”

The BB Jazz Festival Brings Huge Crowd to Huntington Beach’s Central Library Park
*Under the canopy of both tree and umbrella, on top of blankets and sitting high on hilltops in folding chairs, festival attendees enjoyed the sounds of Lyfe Jennings, Angie Stone, Toni Tone Tony and Mint Condition, Shanice and many more at this year’s BB Jazz Festival in Huntington CA
“People were up dancing and I could see smiles on their faces,” explained Shanice, who performed along with Rahsaan Patterson on Saturday on the Main Stage. “It was a really good audience. I really enjoyed it.” Shanice plans on releasing another single by the end of the year and is continuing her reality show ‘Flex and Shanice’ on the OWN Networks.
Angie Stone, who performed holds her success as an artist to a few things.
“I think just being a part of a lot of charitable events,” adds Stone, “showing up in places where a lot of people don’t expect me to show up, health fares and stuff like that. On top of that, television has been a great marketing tool for me. Being a part of R&B Divas really catapulted me to the next level.”
Stone has also made great strides in her appearance, health wise, shedding inches from her waistline.
“I think it’s a blessing to be able to come out here and do something you love and that the people love, as well, said Lyfe Jennings just after his Sunday performance. Jennings’ next album is expected early next year with a possible single in the works for some time this year.

This year, Corky and Betty Bennish, founders of BB Jazz Huntington Beach made great strides to improve the look and sound of the Second Stage adding real, high quality performers that the people could enjoy. Gracing the second stage on Saturday was Angelo Remo’n, Gene Noble, Sy Smith and Algebra. On Sunday performers included Moonchild, Tim Bowman Jr. and Antonique Smith.
“Atlanta Georgia is my home town, so [there] I’m a local favorite,” said Algebra regarding her growing popularity. “I’m an international artist, however, no matter where I go; there is always someone who has yet to hear of me. It’s always about word of mouth.”
Sy Smith, a Washington DC-based performer, came out on Saturday in a black and gold stripped padded dress and pulled off a center stage costume change to the amazement of the second stage audience. She then turned up the tempo of the music and rocked a black and white stripped, hip hop inspired stretch pants outfit.
“The costume change was something I thought of at the last minute,” said Smith. “I love giving people something they can talk about later; whether it’s making my entrance from a descending elevator in the middle of a cruise ship’s atrium. I did that on the Capital City Jazz Supercruise in 2010. Or dropping my skirt and high stepping in a completely different look, right in front of the audience! I just like giving folks a show!”

Is Lamar ready to swoop in like Captain Save-a-H*e now that French Montana is out of the picture? Honestly, I think Khloe and Lamar should do them, even though I can’t understand how either of them would ever want to be with other again. In Khloe’s case you and your family claim that this man was not only unfaithful, but a drug addict (and to top it off had stanky breath). In Lamar’s case why go back to a family that is sure to put the whole reconciliation process and every mistake you make from here on out on the next season of “Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s” ?! I guess only time will tell if they will really make up.

In the back of my head I knew there was a possibility that my son would have sickle cell because his father and I are carriers of the genetic trait for it [a 50% chance of him having the trait and 25% chance of him having the disease, to be exact]. But once I got the results back that my son had sickle cell, it really hit me, like, this is real. It is a reality that my son is going to have to deal with this for the rest of his life. For a long time I blamed myself because I knew my child could have this disease. It was hard to deal with it but it was like, boom, this is my life.
I don’t want people to feel sorry for my son or me. I’m not ashamed about sickle cell anemia. I want to talk about it because there are a lot of the people in the industry who have sickle cell or have a family member who has it, but they don’t talk about it. Many others don’t know if they even carry the gene. I feel like people tend to think of it as a “black disease,” and that if they are Caucasian, it won’t affect them. But it’s not just those of African or Caribbean descent who are at risk; if you are Caucasian, you can also inherit it.
When the Sickle Cell Disease Association approached my agency and said, “We’d really like to have Jourdan as the ambassador,” I was immediately excited to spread more awareness of the disease and help raise funds, and do whatever I can to help out. It is a cause that is truly close to my heart.
Now THAT is model behavior.

Late singer Amy Winehouse has been honored with a life-size statue in her beloved Camden Town neighborhood,
A statue of the British singer was unveiled on Sunday in London on what would have been her 31st birthday.
The bronze work, above, was created by the London sculptor Scott Eaton and features Winehouse’s signature beehive hairstyle, a hand on one hip and stilettos on her feet. Winehouse’s father Mitch said Sunday it was “incredibly emotional” to see the statue.

*L.A. Focus’ First Ladies High Tea held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills was a tremendous success. Over 1,000 attendees were blessed to witness a dynamic acceptance speech from icon actress Cicely Tyson after receving the Legacy Award.
This year’s event was co-hosted by Ambassador of Gospel Dr. Bobby Jones, Jr; BET’s “Bobby Jones Gospel” and Dr. Beverly “Bam” Crawford, pastor of Bible Enrichment Fellowship International Church.
The event honored women and First Ladies who have served the communities well, through their activism and charitable contributions. Grammy winning recording artist Smokie Norful and Grammy-nominated artist, Tata Vega were the featured performers.
