“West Side Story” Star Rachel Zegler Covers September Issue of Town & Country!

Rachel Zegler is about to play one of the most beloved roles as Maria in ‘West Side Story,’ reimagined and directed by Steven Spielberg. The budding starlet speaks with Town & Country for the cover of the September issue to share how she landed the part, her interpretation of the character, and her tunnel vision for the spotlight: “The endgame was a Tony Award; that was what I wanted. I just wanted Ben Brantley to write me a good review. That was my idea for the rest of my life… Musical theater and that’s it.”

On her first role in the Theater League of Clifton’s production of Fiddler on the Roof when a director pulled her aside and said, ‘You could understudy every role in this show, and you’re 12’: “That’s when I kind of took a step back and was like, ‘I think I could do this for the rest of my life.’ That’s a weird moment to have when you’re 12, but I did. I had that moment. I was like, ‘I’m going to do it, and I won’t rest until I do.’”

On how Spielberg’s West Side Story isn’t a remake but a ‘reimagining’ of the original musical: “We’re not trying to recreate, frame for frame, the 1961 film. That film exists as this incredible piece of pop culture that everyone has seen and been affected by in some way. I don’t think any of us would ever try to recreate that. There are things to improve on and things to address. It’s such a cultural phenomenon, that film and the musical in general. I think the way Steven and Tony framed it to all of us when we were auditioning, when we were rehearsing, when we were shooting, was, ‘We are making a movie of the original Broadway musical. This is our take on a story that every-one has heard, and knows so well, and really loves.’”

On her interpretation of her character Maria and how it has mirrored her own coming of age. “Every Juliet-based character is pure and innocent. She’s the Virgin Mary, and she can do no wrong. But in reality she’s 18. She’s discovering so much about herself and the way she thinks about the world. What does it mean to bean 18-year-old discovering all of these things about herself in 2019—or in 1957, which is when West Side Story takes place? There are layers of being an immigrant: How long has she been here? How long does she plan to stay? She plans to stay forever. Does Bernardo want her here?”

On adjusting to the scale and scope of her new life and stardom: “I haven’t done any other film projects, but I’m constantly pinching myself—there’s no way this is my life. That comes with a lot of gratitude and a lot of anxiety and a lot of impostor syndrome. I do have moments when I’m like, ‘I am worthy, and I got this job for a reason…But then it immediately fades into, ‘Oh god, Helen Mirren!’”!

Sounds Nice!

#RIPπŸ™πŸ˜₯πŸŒΊπŸ’”Michael K. Williams, 'The Wire' And 'Boardwalk Empire' Actor, Is DEAD at 54!

Michael K. Williams, the actor who played Omar Little in The Wire, was found dead in Brooklyn on Sunday.

The NYPD confirmed that the 54-year-old was discovered his Williamsburg apartment on Kent Avenue around 2 p.m. The medical examiner's office will determine his cause of death.

According to the Post and Daily News, his nephew found Williams, and a drug overdose was suspected.

Williams, who was born in Brooklyn and was a background dancer for acts like Technotronix, Crystal Waters, Missy Elliott, and Ginuwine before he became an actor, was best known for his indelible performance on The Wire as Omar Little, a gangster who robbed drug dealers and whose reputation preceded him:

But the fame of The Wire also led to a period of addiction. He said on NPR in 2016, "[When] The Wire and the character of Omar ended"—the HBO series ended in 2008"—"I had zero tools, personally speaking, in how to deal with letting that go. I wasn't going around robbing people or anything stupid like that, but I definitely wore that dark energy that Omar was — he was a dark soul, a tortured soul — and I just ... lived in that and that's what people was attracted to. ... The lines got blurred."

He would find himself in Newark, NJ, where he would do drugs with others. He told the Star-Ledger in 2012, "I was playing with fire. It was just a matter of time before I got caught and my business ended up on the cover of a tabloid or I went to jail or, worse, I ended up dead. When I look back on it now, I don’t know how I didn’t end up in a body bag."

Williams grew up in Flatbush—and took Anthony Bourdain to his old neighborhood for an episode of "No Reservations":

In February, Williams appeared on All of It to promote his new film, Body Brokers, which deals with drug addiction and for-profit rehab. He said that Hollywood has typically emphasized characters doing drugs and then their sudden recovery. He said of the topic, "I subscribe to the narrative that drugs and alcohol aren't the problem—it's really a symptom of the problem. Just because a person puts down their drug of choice, it doesn't mean all their character defects go away, their skewed moral compass automatically goes back to the balance line. That requires a lot of work, a lot of self-reflection... and the road to recovery is messy, it's sloppy, people relapse."

Williams also played bootlegger Chalky White on the Prohibition-era Boardwalk Empire and a prisoner at Rikers in The Night Of. He was just nominated for his fourth Emmy—in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series— for his recent role in Lovecraft Country; the Emmys take place on September 19th.

His Wire co-star Wendell Pierce wrote a heartfelt tribute to Williams on Twitter, in a thread:

In one Tweet, Pierce wrote, "THE WIRE brought us together and immortalized Omar & Bunk in that “scene” on a park bench. But for us we aimed to take that moment in time together and say something about Black men. Our struggle with ourselves, internally, and each other. For me & Mike we had nothing but respect."

#RHOA: Peter Thomas SLAMMED After He Brands Lil Nas X’s ‘Baby Bump’ Photos ‘Disturbing’!

Cynthia's ex captioned the snap on Twitter and Instagram: "Whatever happens to what God wants, what God intended."

He added: "I have two beautiful grandsons, if they asked, I wouldn’t know what to say, SMFH."

THE COMMENTS

Fans were outraged by Peter's statements and flocked against him in the comments section.

One fan wrote: "Was it God's Will & God's intention for you to have 5 children with 3 women, instead of respecting the sanctity of holy matrimony? Or are we only being selectively moral today?"

Another fan said: "You'll have to tell me how you can read "God's" mind. That's a cool trick."

A third person stated: "Well if you aren't prepared to give them answers about the real world, let their parents who are probably better equipped, handle it. Because it's really none of your business gramps."

A fourth critic chimed in: "I’d tell them it’s art and let people be and express themselves as they wish."

A commentator added: "Your grandsons would probably tell you to calm down & get over yourself, Peter."

THE NEW ALBUM

The Old Town Road singer was supposedly mocking Drake's Certified Lover Boy album cover with his "baby bump" pics.

The 22-year-old rapper announced that he was "pregnant" as he displayed his huge bump while promoting his new album Montero.

In a TikTok video, a shirtless Lil Nas X looked straight into the camera as the text above him read: “I have an announcement.”

The singer cradled the baby bump as the text above him explained: “Baby ‘Montero’ is due September 17, 2021.”

#MusicNews: Chris Brown Leaks His Kanye West Collaboration ‘New Again’!

Chris Brown is sharing his unreleased Kanye West collaboration.

Following the release of DONDA last Sunday, the R&B superstar blasted Ye for taking him off the album. Chris’ backing vocals were originally featured on the song “New Again,” but that version was quickly pulled from streaming services.

Chris took to Instagram to slam Ye for cutting his verse from the track. “Kanye a whole hoe,” Brown wrote in a since-deleted IG Story. In another post, he added, “Nah he tweakin.”

According to The Shade Room, Chris “was a little heated about his verse being removed from one of the songs on the new album.”

Now, a week after the release of DONDA, Chris decided to leak his version of “New Again.” He uploaded a minute-long snippet of the “reference mix,” on which he is prominently featured.

Fans had a mixed reaction after hearing the unreleased version, which contains sexually-explicit lyrics from Chris. “This would’ve [been] the best song on the album smh,” tweeted one fan, while another defended Ye. “I can honestly see why Ye took it off. It’s great, but does it fit New Again?”

In the wake of the drama, Ye reportedly reached out to Chris to smooth things over. “It wasn’t intentional but Ye is a producer, so his job is to find the best parts in the music and add it to his creative process,” Kanye’s manager Bu Thiam told TMZ. “Chris is a very passionate artist but they’ll figure it out. They’re just creatives having their beefs and shit like that. But it’s all good…Chris is family to us.”

#HipHopNews: Doja Cat Responds To Azealia Banks Diss!

Azealia Banks is coming for Doja Cat…again.

The controversial rapper is once again taking aim at the “Kiss Me More” hitmaker. After a fan called out Azealia for body-shaming Doja, she responded by insulting her looks and music.

“Actually, I’m the bonafide star. Doja makes music for ten year olds and is very derivative,” Banks wrote on her Instagram Story. “Cute girl, but her attempts at witty east coast Roman reloaded flows are pitiful and not in the least amusing, And yes she looked terrible before she lost weight. But azealia & doja are miles more culturally important than any of these weak ass white socialites.”

She also criticized Doja’s pen game. “With all due respect, doja cat has horrible bars. None make any sense,” she added. “That trash african accent on woman sealed the deal for me. Great Sonics, but doja adds nothing to the music world. She needs to step her pen/swag up.”

In the process, she dissed Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj. “The nicki impressions give me iggy trying to use her white heritage to ride nickis tattered coattails,” she wrote before misquoting Doja’s “Need to Know” lyrics. “‘Pink with the drink gimme a sip?’ Garbage. Sounds like a west coast girl trying to fit in with the east coast girls.”

Azealia also shared one of Doja’s photos from her recent Interview magazine cover shoot and added her own commentary. “She deserved better. Look at this disgusting fridge in the back. @interviewmag failed,” she wrote.

Doja retweeted Azealia’s comments and responded in her own unique way. “im farting in a big way,” the VMA host wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “What would u do if u were living in a gangster’s pair of dice?”

This is Azealia’s latest attack on Doja. She previously body-shamed her, along with Megan Thee Stallion. “This bitch is disgusting,” she said while watching Doja’s “Juicy” music video. “The face look drunk and tired and lazy.”

R. Kelly Trial Witness Alleges Singer Paid $200K To Settle Former STD Lawsuit!

As the R. Kelly trial continues, more information about the singer’s alleged affairs is coming to light.

On Friday (9/3), a witness testified that R.Kelly paid her $200,000 to settle the suit in which she accused the artist of giving her herpes without informing her that she had it.

Testifying during the third week of Kelly’s sex trafficking case, the witness, who was 27-years-old at the time, alleged that she met the singer through a friend back in 2001. She claims she informed him that she was worried about catching STD’s after they started having sex and when she asked him to use protected she said,

“He just said ‘no.'” This is the second time that jurors got to hear from witnesses that the ‘I Believe I Can Fly‘ singer allegedly gave them herpes. Earlier in the trial, which started on Aug. 18, two other witnesses testified that R. Kelly allegedly gave them herpes as well.

Although Kelly is not being charged with a crime connected to the witnesses, reportedly prosecutors are using their testimony to add to his case of having and leading a ‘criminal enterprise’ that sexually exploited women, underage girls, and even boys.

Yesterday, R.Kelly, 54, made headlines alongside Drake, after it was revealed that his song, ‘Half on a Baby’ was sampled on Drake’s new album, ‘Certified Lover Boy.’

Due to Kelly’s past and current issues, many have called for the cancelation of his music and its use.

Kelly, who has been in jail since 2019 awaiting trial, has denied any wrongdoings and has pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he faces federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges in New York and Chicago, plus charges in Illinois and Minnesota.

Do you agree with canceling his music?

Harvey Weinstein Accuses Angelina Jolie of Lying About Assault Allegations for Book Sales!

Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein says he never assaulted Angelina Jolie, despite her claims she claimed in a new interview.

via Page Six:

“THERE WAS NEVER an assault, and NEVER an attempt to assault,” Weinstein — who is currently serving a 23-year sentence for rape and battery — responded in a statement to TMZ via his assistant on Saturday.

“It is brazenly untrue and clickbait publicity,” the statement continued. “You’re Angelina Jolie, every male and female in the world, I’m sure, shows interest in you. Is the whole world assaulting you?”

The heated response from Weinstein comes after the actress described her alleged prior experience with him as “beyond a pass” while promoting her upcoming book, “Know Your Rights,” to The Guardian in an interview published Saturday.

“It’s very clear to me that this is for more sales on Angie’s BOOK,” Weinstein added in his statement.

In the interview, Jolie — who starred in Weinstein’s “Playing By Heart” when she was 21 — says she told her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller, about the alleged incident.

“I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys — don’t let girls go alone with him,” Jolie shared.

She added that she was asked to do 2004’s “The Aviator” but said no because Weinstein was involved.

Jolie’s claims about Weinstein came out while she was discussing the ongoing issues she had with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, that eventually led to their marriage ending.

The “Maleficent” star claims that Pitt asked Weinstein to be a producer on his film “Killing Them Softly” — a film The Weinstein Company later distributed.

“We fought about (Weinstein’s involvement),” Jolie shared. “Of course it hurt.”

However, another one of Pitt’s exes, Gwyneth Paltrow, had a completely different experience after Weinstein allegedly invited the young actress — then just 22 years old — back to his hotel room and suggested they get massages in the bedroom.

Pitt allegedly confronted Weinstein at a movie premiere and physically threatened the producer which, at the time, was a huge risk for the up and coming actor.

Plan B productions, Pitt’s company, is also working on a film about New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, who helped take down Weinstein with their Pulitzer Prize-winning report.

Jolie first opened up about the alleged incident with Weinstein in the 2017 NYT report, claiming he’d made “unwanted advances” toward her in a hotel room.

“I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did,” Jolie told the Times via email. “This behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable.”

We believe Angelina.

Comedian Fuquan Johnson & Three Others Dead From Cocaine-Laced Fentanyl Overdose’ At Los Angeles Party!

It’s been reported that comedian Fuquan Johnson has passed away this weekend of an overdose, along with two others. A fourth person is currently hospitalized, and has been identified as Kate Quigley.

According to TMZ there was a party Friday night at someone’s house in the Venice area of L.A where Johnson was spotted with comedian/model Kate Quigley.

Sources say him are Kate are no longer dating, even though according to her Instagram page this past May they were posting as if they were in a relationship. It seems now there is no affiliation.

Police are looking into the people who own the house. Officials note that there are a few owners listed and it has been known that Quigley was a resident of the home.

It’s been reported that once authorities arrived to the scene a little after midnight they found 4 people who seem to be deceased or close to it. As for Johnson and two others, they were pronounced dead on the scene, while Quigley was rushed to the hospital under critical condition.

It seems cocaine laced with fentanyl is the cause of this situation, but the autopsies will be done for all three bodies soon at the L.A. Coroners office.

Producer Mark Ronson & Grace Gummer Mery;s Streeps Daughter Secretly Tie The Knot

Grammy-winner Mark Ronson and actress Grace Gummer are married! The musician posted the first photo of the married couple on his Instagram with a super gushy caption. “To my truest love…out of nowhere, you made 45 hands down the greatest year of my life.”

The couple was all smiles with Gummer in a flowy white gown and Ronson sporting a three-piece suit. “I’m sure it took me 45 years to become the man worthy of your love. I hope I spend every one of these birthdays by your side til my last day. And beyond. Forever and ever yours.” The British native posted an abundance of love heart emojis.

The 45-year-old didn’t ignore the elephant in the room or the white gown that his new wife was sporting. “And yes, we got married,” he wrote as an afterthought, you know, no big deal. The couple didn’t comment any further, but PageSix confirmed the marriage back at the beginning of August.

Unfortunately, the nuptials were pushed back and the guest list had to be scaled down as well because of the new Delta Covid-19 variant. Thankfully, the “Uptown Funk” producer and the Dr. Death actress were able to eventually tie the knot but with a significantly smaller guest list.

Mark Ronson enjoys a night out at The Groucho private members club with Klaxons band member Jamie Reynolds and two mystery women one of whom looked very much his ex girlfriend Daisy Lowe

The exact guestlist is not known but the 35-year-old actress and her husband both come from powerhouse families. Ronson’s mother is designer Ann Dexter-Jones, and his dad is “Foreigner” guitarist Mick Jones.

He also has three sisters; Charlotte, who followed her mom into the design field, Samantha Ronson, who is a musician as well but more known for her drama with ex-girlfriend Lindsay Lohan. Finally, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, who is currently playing troublemaker Naomi Pierce on HBO’s Succession.

Not to be upstaged, Gummer’s mother is Meryl Streep, her father is Don Gummer, a sculptor and her siblings are in the industry as well. Mamie is an actress and is a regular on The Good Fight, her other sister Louisa Jacobson is an actress on HBO’s The Gilded Age. Finally, her brother Henry is a musician.

Tyler Perry Claps Back at Mean Tweets About Sistas Wigs: 'Go Talk to Somebody That's Got a Hot Curler'!

A good wig is hard to find. Just ask Tyler Perry, who is tired of the mean tweets his hit BET drama Sistas constantly attracts.

The soapy series (which is currently on hiatus and resumes Season 3 on Wednesday Oct. 13) follows the turbulent love lives of five gorgeous and highly successful Black women in Atlanta. The women, who are all friends, rock a myriad of hairstyles including culturally astute natural braids and twists, as well as permed and straightened hair.

Wigs are quick and easy for characters such as Karen (played by Wu-Tang: An American Saga‘s Ebony Obsidian), who has worn the occasional, less-than-convincing lace-front. Yet while Karen’s wigs have improved over the years, viewers have taken note of the hairpieces that didn’t get much better, such as the Caesar cut that private detective Leslie Davenport (Keena Ferguson) donned.

Tyler Perry's Sistas, Leslie Davenport “I want all of y’all to stop talking about hair to me, please,” a slightly annoyed Perry recently said on The Tyler Perry Show: Sistas After-Show Edition. “I swear to you, these are the things I can do: I can run a company, I can build a house, I can go on stage. I do all of this stuff. I know what I do. I don’t know how to do hair. I don’t know nothing about it.”

Perry argued that he employs professional hairdressers to worry about the wigs and styling used on Sistas (and his other TV shows and movies).

“I hire people to do hair. Pay them $65 an hour,” he said. “You heard that right. $65 an hour. They work 10 to 12 hours a day to make sure the hair is right. That’s their job, so I’m paying them to do their job and they’re doing that. They’re doing a great job. Sometimes, things slip because I move a little fast, but they get it done.”

After explaining his side of things, Perry had one request for tweeters who hate the wigs on Sistas: “Stop asking me about some damn hair,” he added with a laugh. “Go talk to somebody that’s got a hot curler. Like I’m walking around with a damn hot curler.”

Tyler Perry's Sistas, Preston and Danni Perry is willing to admit some faults — and was a lot less defensive — when another viewer tweeted about the unfortunate twin mattresses some of the characters have in their homes. To that, he self-deprecatingly conceded, “You right.”

What do you think of the wigs on Tyler Perry’s Sistas?

Jason Momoa Reveals The New 'Aquaman' Suit!

Jason Momoa is going dark in the next Aquaman film — sartorially, at least.

On Sunday the 42-year-old action star showed off his new look for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is currently in production ahead of its Dec. 2022 release date. While Momoa made a splash in gold and green for the 2018 DC Comics original, the sequel will see his aquatic action hero also sport a less colorful, more streamlined suit featuring scaly, dark teal material with steel-gray armor-like accents and built-in washboard abs — not that he needs them.

"Second round," Momoa wrote on Instagram, sharing his new costume alongside its splashier predecessor. "New suit. More action."

Director James Wan confirmed that the new "stealth suit" worn by Momoa's Aquaman/Arthur Curry is inspired by the blue suit the superhero wore in the 1980s. The filmmaker described the look as "Atlantean tech based on cephalopod’s camouflaging ability."

The svelte and somber update got praise from fellow action star Dwayne Johnson, whose young daughter is an Aquaman enthusiast.

"Hell yeah looking great," Johnson commented on Momoa's post, while actor Leslie Jordan couldn't resist quipping, "Come save me. It’s raining over here."

Meanwhile, Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who will play Black Manta in the upcoming film, teased his own look: "I know a suit that might give you a run, player!!"

Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren and Temuera Morrison will reprise their Aquaman roles in the sequel.

Facebook Issues Apology After AI Software Labels Black Men As ‘Primates’!

Facebook issued an apology after its artificial intelligence software mislabeled a video of Black men as “primates.”

First reported on by The New York Times, the post in question involved a video uploaded by the Daily Mail on June 27, 2020. In the video, a white man calls the cops on a group of Black men celebrating a birthday. “I’m being harassed by a bunch of Black men,” the man can be heard saying to a 911 operator. The video then abruptly cuts to a video of a Black man being arrested by police at his home.

A former Facebook employee tweeted about the offensive misidentification on Thursday. Darci Groves wrote that a friend had experienced the suggestion firsthand.

“Um. This “keep seeing” prompt is unacceptable, @Facebook. And despite the video being more than a year old, a friend got this prompt yesterday. Friends at FB, please escalate. This is egregious,” she wrote.

She included a screenshot from the video, along with the Facebook prompt asking, “Keeping seeing videos about primates?”

Facebook apologized for the error and has disabled the topic recommendation feature. The social media giant is looking into what caused the issue.

“As we have said, while we have made improvements to our AI, we know it’s not perfect, and we have more progress to make,” Facebook said in a statement to the Times. “We apologize to anyone who may have seen these offensive recommendations.”

Mally Mall Heading Off To Prison For Pimping Hundreds Of Women!

“Love & Hip Hop Hollywood” star Mally Mall just headed off to prison for a few years for running illegal escort businesses in Las Vegas. Mally took in large sums of money from his escort businesses, which allegedly prostituted hundreds of women.

But he never had legitimate permits for the companies, which operated from 2002 through 2014.

In 2014, Mally was charged after a dramatic raid on his home in Las Vegas.

A police helicopter landed in his front yard, as an armored vehicle commandeered by FBI agents knocked down the front gate of his mansion.

During Mally Mall’s trial, multiple women testified that they had been manipulated, traumatized, and humiliated by Mally.

He was also accused of verbally and physically abusing some of the victims who were imprisoned and enslaved according to the judge who sentenced him.

He pleaded guilty to the use of an interstate facility to aid in the unlawful activity of prostitution.

Prosecutors sentenced Mally to the maximum penalty of 33 months. He will also have to service months of probation when he is finally released.

“Mally Mall over the last several years had dedicated his life to music and helping people,” Mally Mall said in a statement to TMZ.com. “He has fully recognized the error in his ways and has gone out of his way to try to make amends. He intends to take full advantage of each and every program offered by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.”

In addition to starring in “Love & Hip Hop,” Mally Mall is a noted producer. He has crafted tracks for Snoop Dogg, Tyga, French Montana, Pusha T, Chris Brown, and others.

South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh suffered 'superficial' injuries in shooting!

Prominent South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, whose wife and son were fatally shot nearly three months ago, suffered a “superficial” gunshot to the head and is expected to recover, authorities and relatives said Sunday.

Murdaugh dialed 911 at 1:34 p.m. Saturday and told authorities he’d been shot while changing a flat tire on a rural road in Hampton County, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesman Tommy Crosby said.

Murdaugh, whose father and grandfather were top prosecutors in the state’s 14th circuit — and who serves as a part-time prosecutor in the same office — was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, for treatment of a “superficial” head wound, Crosby said.

Murdaugh’s black Mercedes-Benz SUV was being processed by investigators, who were also collecting evidence and interviewing possible witnesses, Crosby said.

In a statement to NBC News, a family spokesperson said the Murdaugh family has “suffered more than one family could ever imagine.”

“We expect him to make a full recovery,” the spokesperson said.

Authorities did not disclose a potential motive in the shooting. A family friend and lawyer for Murdaugh, Jim Griffin, said Saturday that a pickup truck passed Murdaugh while he was changing his tire. The truck turned around and someone inside opened fire, striking Murdaugh, Griffin said.

Authorities have also not identified a motive or suspect in the June 7 killings of Murdaugh’s wife, Margaret, 52, and son Paul, 22.

Their bodies, which had been shot multiple times, were found near a dog kennel at their hunting lodge in Colleton County.

The family’s powerful legal connections were in the spotlight after Paul Murdaugh was indicted in a 2019 boat crash that left one of his passengers dead. Investigators concluded the teens were “grossly intoxicated.”

Paul Murdaugh pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of boating under the influence and was awaiting trial at the time of his death.

Tom Brady Got COVID Weeks After Tampa’s Super Bowl Parade But He’s Vaccinated Now!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady not only had a scare last year when both of his parents tested positive for COVID-19 — he himself was diagnosed with it too in February.

via: Uproxx: In an interview with Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Brady revealed that he contracted coronavirus in the weeks after Tampa’s Super Bowl win. Brady discussed the impact coronavirus may have on this upcoming NFL season, even though the article made it clear that the Bucs are one of the few squads in the league to be fully vaccinated.

Which means that Brady does, indeed, have the jab.

“You guys beat COVID last year. It’s still around. You’ve had it?” I asked him.

“Yeah,” Brady said.

“And I think it’s going to be challenging this year,” he continued. “I actually think it’s going to play more of a factor this year than last year, just because of the way what we’re doing now and what the stadium is going to look like and what the travel is going to look like and the people in the building and the fans.

“It’s not like last year, although we’re getting tested like last year. It’s going to be, I definitely think guys are going to be out at different points and we’ve just got to deal with it.”

In the piece, it’s revealed that one of the last people on the team to get vaccinated was running back Leonard Fournette. And while it isn’t specific, it sure sounds like Brady was encouraging his teammates to get vaccinated and protect the locker room from any possible disease-related disaster. And Brady’s point about unvaccinated fans and staff being in NFL stadiums is certainly an interesting point as well: despite the advantage of having vaccines available, anti-vax sentiments have complicated so much of what could happen this year.

It shouldn’t be news that NFL players are doing everything they possibly can to stay healthy and keep themselves on the field. So much of the NFL mindset is exactly that, even if it means practices considered medically dangerous outside of football. But as we’ve seen with players like Cole Beasley, not every athlete sees the vaccine as a competitive edge in the age of personal freedoms and owning the libs.

We know by now that breakthrough cases are still possible even after vaccination, but it’s now clear that the Bucs are gearing up for a potential repeat with another edge many of their competitors simply won’t have this year: a fully vaccinated locker room.

The Talk Announces Akbar Gbajabiamila as a New Co-Host After Elaine Welteroth Exits

The Talk has a new host! CBS announced Thursday that Akbar Gbajabiamila will be the latest co-host of the daytime talk show, two days after Elaine Welteroth exited the series following one season. The American Ninja Warrior star and former NFL player will join current co-hosts Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood and Jerry O'Connell for the upcoming 12th season

"It is an absolute honor to be joining The Talk as a host!" Gbajabiamila, 42, said in a statement. "I am so excited for this new generation of such a long-standing establishment. To be a part of this diverse group, is truly a dream and a new statement for The Talk. In a world as divided as ours, I look forward to showing up as my fun and authentic self everyday and advocating for conversation over confrontation."

"It's a new day in daytime for season 12 of The Talk and we are thrilled to welcome Akbar to the family. His engaging personality, openness and quick wit really impressed us when he appeared as a guest co-host last season," executive producer and showrunner Heather Gray said.

Her co-showrunner and EP Kristin Matthews added, "Akbar's candor and humor come with ease and are great additions to the conversation. Also, his relatability as a husband and father creates a special connection with the viewers that is invaluable."

Welteroth, 34, announced her departure in a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, writing that she's proud of her short run on the show.

"It is an absolute honor for anyone, but especially a young Black woman, to occupy space on-air where our perspectives are largely underrepresented. It was gratifying to be able to show up as my authentic self in front of a live national audience every day in a world as divided as ours and to stay true to myself and what I stand for," she said in part.

The bestselling author and journalist was the second host to leave The Talk in the month of August. On Aug. 20, Carrie Ann Inaba announced she would be saying goodbye to the show after three seasons as a host.

"I want to announce that today, The Talk, CBS and I have mutually agreed to part ways," she began her video message. "And I just want to say that I'm filled with gratitude for the experience and for this chapter of my life that has been The Talk. I have made lifelong friendships, I've had incredible experiences and I've had wonderful discussions that helped me evolve as a human being. And it's been an honor to be a part of your lives and to have a voice."

The departures of Welteroth and Inaba, 53, also followed Sharon Osbourne's controversial exit from the show in March. In July, O'Connell, 47, was announced as Osbourne's replacement, becoming The Talk's first full-time male co-host.

Season 12 of The Talk premieres Monday, Sept. 13 on CBS.

Oscar De La Hoya Hospitalized with COVID-19, Postpones Comeback Fight!

Legendary pugilist Oscar De La Hoya was scheduled to make his boxing comeback against former UFC champion Vitor Belfort on Sept 11. However, the fight has been postponed after De La Hoya was hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19.

"Wanted you to hear directly from me that despite being fully vaccinated, I have contracted Covid and am not going to be able to fight next weekend. Preparing for this comeback has been everything to me over the last months, & I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support," De La Hoya wrote on Twitter.

According to reports, Evander Holyfield has agreed to terms to step in and fight Belfort. "Heavyweight fights are always the most exciting clashes, and this is a heavyweight fight between two true warriors," said Triller's Ryan Kavanaugh. "We really wish Oscar a speedy recovery, he's a champion and a warrior; we know he'll fight this and win. We look forward to seeing him in the ring on the anniversary of Fight Club's launch."
