Meagan Good Covers UPSCALE + Says She's Even MORE Free In Her Marriage
Meagan Good covers UPSCALE Magazine in a hot multicolor & multiprint bodycon dress. And the movie star is discussing marriage and the trappings of fame. Highlights inside....
In the new January 2014 issue of Upscale Magazine, gorgeous Anchorman 2 star Meagan Good dished on her marriage to preacher DeVon Franklin and the sense of freedom she's felt since walking down the aisle and how "love" empowered her. Check the highlights
On her newfound freedom since tying the knot:
“Oddly, you would think in marriage it would make you feel like you have less freedom, but I’m finding that I have more freedom [since I’ve been married] because I trust myself more and I’m a little bit more absolute about my choices..."
On her fears about getting married:
“What I feared about marriage was that I would lose my identity and be controlled or suffocated or like a caged lion and what I found was the exact opposite. I’m way more empowered, more content, more confident and just freer across the board.”
On being famous:
“In this business you do get picked apart and you do get kind of bullied everyday, with the blogs and everything... People say, ‘well if you didn’t want all of that then you shouldn’t do this for a living’ but there’s a difference between someone who wants to be an actress because they want to be famous and someone who wants to do good work and they could take or leave the fame because it’s not about the fame or money, it’s genuinely about the art. That's the category that I fall in. With the fame, to be honest, I could really leave it.”
While promoting the release of Anchorman 2, Meagan stopped by "ARSENIO" where she addressed some of the criticism she's received from the church (since marrying a preacher).

Apologies for AIDS Tweet
Justine Sacco, a public relations executive who gained almost instant
infamy — and unemployment — for an insensitive tweet about AIDS in Africa,
issued an apology Sunday.
Sacco was in London on Friday, headed for a vacation in South Africa,
when she tweeted “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m
white!”
Sacco hopped aboard her flight, the tweet went viral and social media
outrage was booming before she ever landed. The hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet
even gained traction on Twitter, taking the top trending spot for
hours.
“Words cannot express how sorry I am, and how necessary it is for me to
apologize to the people of South Africa, who I have offended due to a needless
and careless tweet,” Sacco said in her statement, first released to African news
outlets. “There is an AIDS crisis taking place in this country, that we read
about in America, but do not live with or face on a continuous basis.
Unfortunately, it is terribly easy to be cavalier about an epidemic that one has
never witnessed firsthand.
“For being insensitive to this crisis — which does not discriminate by
race, gender or sexual orientation, but which terrifies us all uniformly — and
to the millions of people living with the virus, I am
ashamed.
“This is my father’s country, and I was born here. I cherish my ties to
South Africa and my frequent visits, but I am in anguish knowing that my remarks
have caused pain to so many people here; my family, friends and fellow South
Africans. I am very sorry for the pain I
caused.”
Sacco is feeling some of that pain. While she was in the air and out of
touch, the social media mob was descending, mocking and condemning her. Shortly
after her flight landed, the Twitter account was deleted. Later, Sacco’s
Facebook account also was deleted.
The New York media conglomerate InterActiveCorp said Saturday it had
“parted ways” Sacco, its PR director. IAC operates a string of websites
including Match.com, Vimeo, Ask.com, UrbanSpoon, OKCupid and The Daily
Beast.
“There is no excuse for the hateful statements that have been made and we
condemn them unequivocally. We hope, however, that time and action, and the
forgiving human spirit, will not result in the wholesale condemnation of an
individual who we have otherwise known to be a decent person at core,” the IAC
statement said.

Duck Dynasty" Stars Will
Not Film Without Phil Robertson
Controversy has been
swirling since A&E's decision last night to suspend "Duck Dynasty" star Phil
Robertson following his anti-gay remarks in a recent GQ
interview.
Now, after much
anticipation, the rest of the Robertson family has spoken out on what they will
do next and the future of the show.
In a lengthy statement,
the reality stars explain, "We want to thank all of you for your prayers and
support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s
decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in
our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s
unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the
teachings of the Bible."
"Phil is a Godly man who
follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your
God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never
incite or encourage hate," they continued.
"We are disappointed that
Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his
constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship
with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without
our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that
means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued
support of our family."
At this time, the future
of "Duck Dynasty" is up in the air. Stick with The Chronicles to find out the
final decision on the hit series.

Jordan Brand Unveils
"Flight Before Christmas" Pack
The Holiday season means
kicks utilizing the theme in their kicks. Jordan Brand unveils their Christmas
Day collection of kicks that will be rocked by Carmelo Anthony, Russell
Westbrook, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin on game day.
Says Jordan
Brand:
The visual elements in
each shoe are inspired by air travel, paying homage to the spirit of traveling
to be with family during the holiday season. Each shoe features flight patterns
and circular radar imagery representing a busy air traffic control station. The
bright colors and reflective materials on the upper are complimented by dark
accents and a speckled pattern on the outsole.
Christmas Day offers a
unique opportunity for Jordan Brand as Russell Westbrook (wearing the AIR JORDAN
XX8 SE) travels to New York City to face Carmelo Anthony (wearing the Jordan
Melo M10). Across the country, Chris Paul (in the CP3.VII) and Blake Griffin
(wearing the Super.Fly2) will take the court in the last game of the day in
hopes of tying a ribbon on a great day of basketball.
Although each shoe brings
its own style, they're all designed for one thing: taking your game higher.
Performance technology such as Flight Plate and Dynamic Fit paired with premium
materials and exclusive design elements ensure you'll get noticed when you step
on the court this winter.
Jordan Brand's "Flight
Before Christmas" collection of kicks will be available at select stores and
Nike.com beginning December 24. Of course they will be limited so you may want
to holla at your connect stat if you want a pair of these in your
collection.
Gregg SURPRISED NeNe with
a Birthday Party (That No Housewives Attended!)
Over the weekend....Greg
Leakes surprised Nene with a party for her 46th
birthday.
The "Glam Ma" received a
birthday hug from her granddaughter Bri'Asia.
The party was held at STK
Atlanta and attended by friends and family. Gregg convinced Nene to leave the
house by arranging a quiet dinner with good friends Chuck and Mynique
Smith......she never suspected that he'd shut down the entire restaurant for
her. Isn't Gregg so sweet these days?!
We find it interesting
that NONE of Nene's "RHOA" stars were at the party. Maybe Gregg didn't want to
risk them showing up "late" and spoiling the surprise! Or maybe...she's totally
over these ladies and ready for another spinoff of her own. She's been hinting
toward that for a while now...
Next one leaving V-103 is
Egypt Sherrod
This has been a brutal
week at V-103.
First, Kendra G and
Christopher "Crash" Clark were cut Monday from Ryan Cameron's morning show, as
reported. Now mid-day host Egypt Sherrod is out.
Sherrod's agent/attorney
Donald Woodard said she's leaving on her own accord with her contract up in
March, 2014. Here is her statement:
“I relocated with my
family to Atlanta in 2011 to join the V-103 family and I instantly fell in love
with the warmth of the people of Atlanta, and the city I now call
home.
"However, after much
consideration I have decided that the time is right for me to take a break from
the station while I look to focus on a number of upcoming multi-media business
opportunities. Have no fear; I have 19 years of my life invested in radio, and I
have no plans of walking away from it permanently. I am very excited about the
dynamic year ahead I have in store.”
Thursday was her final
day on the air.
Sherrod was wooed by
program director Reggie Rouse last year from New York City. And as host of
"Property Virgins," she was able to move the HGTV show down here as
well.
V-103 touted her hire as
a big get, kind of like the New York Yankees picking up a major free agent along
the lines of Alex Rodriguez. She came across as a local version of Wendy
Williams, dishing her thoughts on the air and providing comforting thoughts and
sustenance to the listeners.
"I’m a personality,”
Egypt said in the interview in March, 2012. “I’m not a talking head. I don’t
just read liners and go in and out of music.”
On her first day, Rouse
decorated the studio with an Egyptian sarcophagus and a throne. Management also
catered a big buffet in the green room, including peach cobbler and pot
roast.
"I have never had a
welcome like this in my entire career!” she said on the air her first day. “I
feel very blessed."
But Atlanta listeners did
not glom on to her in the ways Rouse expected. Her day-part ratings were the
weakest at the station, below what her predecessor Ramona DeBreaux was getting
prior to Sherrod's arrival. In the most recent Nielsen ratings book, Sherrod in
her time slot ranked third among 25 to 54 year olds, behind shows on the River
and B98.5.
Though I have no word on
who will replace Sherrod in mid-days, DeBreaux would make the most sense. She's
already at the station, a popular and likable presence. She was mid-day host
from spring of 2011 until March of 2012 and did well while in that position.
(She also hosted mid-days for several years at Hot 97.5/107.9 prior to coming to
V-103 in February, 2008.)
Mid-days have been a bit
of a bugaboo for V-103 in recent years since Magic Man was let go in 2005 in
terms of finding a long-term personality to hold down the helm. Over the next
even years, management has tried Osei the Dark Secret, Porsche Foxx, Elle Duncan
and Debreaux in that slot, none terribly long term, though Foxx's own personal
issues contributed to her departure
Shaq told Shaunie HELL NO
to his kids being in a Reality Show!
As you already may know,
Basketball Wives is standing on its last leg so many of the ladies are looking
to move on to bigger and better things, including the show’s creator Shaunie
O’Neal. After getting a bad rap for all of the fighting and bottle-throwing that
went on between the basketball wives, Shaunie wants to work on a new spin-off
show titled The Shaunie Project. This show would be more of a wholesome show
surrounding her and her four kids, but ex-husband Shaq is not trying to have
their kids anywhere near it. According to TMZ:
Sources familiar with the
situation tell TMZ … Shaunie has tried convincing Shaq that her show is just
like “The Cosby Show” — good, wholesome, family fun. She told him one of the
episodes will focus on Shaunie’s aversion to working out. The kids will
convince her that working out is good and they’ll all run a 5K together.
Forgive our cynicism, but it sounds like this show may be
scripted.
Shaq is not buying it and
feels there are too many pressures imposed by producers — to be able to keep the
show wholesome. He’s convinced the show will end up showcasing a dysfunctional
family that will hurt his kids, some of whom are already struggling in school.
Shaq believes no good can come from cameras in the home.
It looks as though the
two battled in court this morning and Shaunie was granted a huge
“L”:
Shaunie O’Neal was
unconvincing this morning in court … a judge just rejected her bid for an order
allowing her to put her kids on a new reality show … something ex-hubby
Shaquille O’Neal is vehemently against.
Shaunie wanted the judge
to rule in her favor without a hearing, but Shaq’s lawyer, disso-queen Laura
Wasser convinced the judge there was no rush and a hearing was only fair … but
that takes time.
Unfortunately, since the
order was rejected, that kind of puts a damper on her plans to start filming the
show in January.
In other news, it’s good
to see that the wholesome family shows are bringing in the ratings for VH1′s
viewers who may be tired of all the forced drama. Both T.I. and The Game have
had huge success rebranding their images into family men through their reality
shows and their kids have become little super stars.
Would you watch Shaunie’s
new show?
ABC Officially Cancels
"Katie"
Its fate was foreshadowed
when she announced her exit from ABC News, and now Katie Couric's talk show has
officially been cancelled.
According to a joint
statement from Disney/ABC and the 56-year-old host, "While production will
continue on Katie through June 2014, we’ve mutually agreed that there will not
be a third season of the show. We’re very proud of everyone’s contributions to
making Katie the #1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013 and we look forward to
the rest of the season."
After news broke that the
journalist would be leaving ABC News earlier this year, she also announced a new
project, teaming with Yahoo to become their "Global
Anchor."
The deal will earn her
about $6 million per year, but that's small potatoes compared to Katie's $20
million annual contract with ABC.

And in other baby news,
we reported last month that Michael Jordan was very likely expecting with his
new wife Yvette Prieto. And now, it's being reported that not only are the
newlyweds expecting, but they're expecting identical twin
girls!
MJ's been super secretive
about the entire situation. But word has it Yvette is doing just fine. His
other three kids are in their 20's. Wonder if they're going to help change
diapers too...
Ashanti DINES OUT But who
is that DUDE you’re with?
Ashanti was photographed
arriving at Philippe in a turquoise Bentley.
She wore a black flirty
leather mini-dress with a baby blue design.
And the NY chick dined
with a mystery guy. Dude's eyebrows are filled in for dear life. He very well
could just be on her team as a stylist, trainer, or friend. We're not sure
about her "status" as she normally keeps quiet about her
relationships.
Fan of the songstress can
catch her in the Lifetime holiday film Christmas in the City throughout the
holiday season. And also her C=second Christmas album in stores
now.
Looking cute
Ashanti!
Peter Once Considered
Cheating on Cynthia
Real Housewives of
Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey admitted on a recent episode that she and
husband
Peter were rarely having
sex because of her fibroid tumors.
In a recent interview
Peter admits a 3 month stretch nearly had him at the breaking
point...
From Life &
Style
“We’d be divorced for
sure,” Cynthia reveals to Life & Style.
Peter’s quick to agree:
“I know we would have been done,” he tells Life & Style. “There is
absolutely no way we could have survived another year if things hadn’t
changed.”
At one point, he
confesses, he thought of cheating on his wife: “Me and my buddies were planning
a trip to Venezuela because nobody knows us there.”
After undergoing a
fibroid embolization to rid herself of the tumors, Cynthia says she is healthy
again and their relationship is better than ever. “We’re intimate a lot more now
and it feels great,” says Cynthia.
AND FINALLY FROM THE
CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART FILES
‘THE FAMILY
PORTRAIT’
Let me tell you how glad
I am my family made it through the weird creepy portrait stage of our lives
unscathed. Probably because Walmart wasn’t as popular back then. Actually, F
that theory, this is weird in any generation.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK AHEAD
EVERYBODY!!!
