#RHOA: PRAYERS: NeNe Leakes says 23-year-old son suffered a stroke, heart failure: ‘It was very scary’

Former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes is asking fans for support and prayers as her son, Brentt Leakes, faces “serious” health issues.

“Two weeks ago today, Brentt had congestive heart failure and a stroke,” she revealed in an Instagram Story on Monday. “He’s really young for something like that to happen to him.”

TMZ reported Monday morning that Brentt was hospitalized in Atlanta earlier this month. On Instagram, Leakes walked her followers through her son’s diagnosis, noting that doctors thought that he could be dealing with “some serious infection,” HIV or COVID-19. She said medical experts ran a number of tests, but the cause remains unknown.

“It was very scary, I don’t even want to go into details. What happened, how I found out and what condition he was in,” Leakes continued. “Obviously, a stroke is a very serious thing and he’s struggling with speaking ... Just keep us in your prayers.”

While speaking on her son’s condition, Leakes brought up her own health issues. She recalled having blood clots in her lung in 2013 and said that doctors are “thinking that Brentt was born with some sort of disease, or something with his heart since he was a kid and it just never showed up until now.”

She also said that her son was “very stressed out” last month, as it marked one year since his father, Gregg Leakes, died in September 2021.

Leakes added that the Linnethia Lounge, a bar near Atlanta her son helped run, may be up for sale due to his recent health issues.

“This is just a lot right now on me, so if there’s anybody out there that’s possibly interested in the lounge, send them my way,” she said. “If they are interested in purchasing it, it’s very possible that we will sell the lounge, because it is something that I shared with Brentt after Gregg’s passing.”

Despite the club’s potential sale and the health issues, Leakes reassured her followers that her son is “in good spirits.”

The news comes months after Leakes sued Bravo and NBCU, alleging that the companies behind the “Real Housewives” franchise fostered and tolerated a hostile and racist work environment.

#MusicNews: Lauryn Hill Brings Son Zion On Stage During Concert

Lauryn Hill’s joy is still in Zion. Twenty-four years after releasing her song “Zion,” the singer brought out her son during her performance at the ONE Musicfest in Atlanta on Saturday.

In a heartwarming moment, Zion emerged on stage and hugged his mother as she performed the touching tribute to her first born, who was just one when she released her 1998 solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

“That was beautiful. Thank you, Zion. I needed that hug,” Lauren said as she embraced Zion, who is now 25.

Zion, the eldest son of Lauryn and Rohan Marley, is all grown up and has a son and daughter of his own, who Hill introduced to the crowd.

Hill’s other children also joined their mother on stage while she performed “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

Lauryn’s daughter Selah Marley didn’t make the show, but she did walk in Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 9 show during Paris Fashion Week wearing his controversial “White Lives Matter” shirt.

The 23-year-old model, who is the granddaughter of the legendary Bob Marley, defended herself amid the backlash.

“You can not bully me, manipulate me, or coax me into silence. Nor will you bully me into being who you want me to be,” Selah wrote. “I love taking risks and embracing freedom, but in this case, I think we can continue to discuss the depth behind our decisions to show the purity of our intentions and provide healing to our community.”

#HipHopNews: Geto Boys’ Willie D Responds To Backlash After Saying Kanye West’s Mother Died By Suicide

If you or someone you know is at risk of suicide or contemplating self-harm, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255, text TALK to 741741 or visit Speakingofsuicide.com for additional resources.

Willie D is responding to backlash he received for saying Kanye West's mother Donda West died by suicide due to Ye's outrageous antics.

On Sunday (Oct. 9), the veteran rapper and Getto Boys member hopped on social media to share his thoughts on the response he got for inferring Donda West killed herself instead of the official coroner's ruling about the death.

“I woke up this morning to a block party,” began Willie D in a video posted to his Instagram page. “Had to get rid of all these Kanye West stans. All in the DMs, all in the comments section of my Instagram, because I put up a post saying that I don't believe Kanye West mama died of a botched surgery. I think she killed herself because she realized she had created a self-loathing coconut. Now, they got mad at me and was trying to bully me because I said what I said, but when Kanye West wore the 'White Lives Matter' shirt they were praising him as a free thinker, someone who can't be controlled. The irony, do you see it? So, having considered you guys' beef, I got a change of heart. I'ma go ahead and be the bigger man and apologize for putting up that post and saying what I said. What I should have said is, fuck all y'all. No more talk."

On Oct. 8, Willie D raised eyebrows when he first opined that Kanye West's mother's 2007 death was a result of her being fed up with Ye.

"Kanye West's Civil Rights activist mama didn't die because of a botched surgery," Willie D wrote on Facebook. "I think she committed [suicide] after realizing she had raised a self loathing [coconut]."

Kanye West's mother died at the age of 58 as a result of coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors in connection to a cosmetic surgery. The death has had a major affect on Ye, who at one point held Donda's surgeon accountable for her passing.

Kanye West has drawn the ire of several of his colleagues over the last week after debuting "White Lives Matter" shirts at his Yeezy Season 9 Fashion Show in Paris on Oct. 3, and following up by making disparaging comments about the Black Lives Matter movement. He's been called out by Diddy, Boosie BadAzz, Justin Bieber and others.

Angie Martinez Finds Her Estranged Father, that She Thought Was Dead, He Is Alive has/ A New Family But ‘He didn’t want to Reconnect

Radio personality Angie Martinez opens up about a heartbreaking reveal that changed her life.

While interviewing Kelly Rowland–who recently reconnected with her father after 30 years–Angie Martinez shared her own story as a way to relate to the Destiny Child’s songstress.

After her friend and former Basketball Wives Star Evelyn Lozada encouraged Angie Martinez to search for information on her father–whom she thought had died, the radio host was faced with a shocking revelation.

“Two days later I get a picture of a man from Evelyn Lozada and she says, ‘Could this guy be your father?’ And I’m like ‘Holy sh*t, that’s absolutely my father.’ He is not dead, he does not appear to be on drugs. He’s like in shape, healthy. He’s living right outside of Chicago. He’s married. A member of a church. This was 2019. I’m freaking out. I thought he was dead since I was 10. I’m now forty-something years old, there’s man that’s my father and is alive…I always had grace and compassion for him. I was like ‘he was on drugs, he had a problem.'”

Martinez then reveals that her father wasn’t open to getting to know her.

“So he called. The wife knew nothing of my existence, she didn’t even know he had a child. I’ll just say he wasn’t openly receptive to connecting.”

While discussing the heartbreaking experience, Angie Martinez became emotional and started to cry as Kelly Rowland showed sympathy.

Martinez says that the incident hardened her for a while and she didn’t give people grace.

“It shifted something in me for a minute. I started being super judgemental about people…All these years I thought he was a drug addict, I felt bad for him, I never had anger. So then all of a sudden, I was like, ‘Oh, he wasn’t a drug addict who had problems and couldn’t–he’s not a good guy.”

Tiffany Haddish Performs for the First Time Since Resolving Sexual Abuse Scandal

Comedian Tiffany Haddish seemingly booked her first comedy event since a child abuse lawsuit was filed against her and eventually dropped.

Haddish performed in an Oct. 7 “Comedy Rocks” show with stand-up comedians Tim Dillon, Gabby Lamb, Skyler Stone, and Nate Meeker in West Los Angeles, California.

The “She Ready” comedian continuously posted the flyer for the event onto her Instagram Story, which could have played a factor, along with other comedians publicizing the event on their own social media, in helping the 9 p.m. show sell out.

Haddish genuinely smiling is a facial expression fans haven’t seen in a while. The 42-year-old was recently spotted by TMZ with a blank face as she stated she lost everything due to the sexual abuse accusations leveled at her.

While walking through an airport last month, Haddish told a TMZ reporter, “I lost everything, all my gigs gone. Everything gone.”

She continued, “I don’t have no job. I don’t have no job bro.”

Around September, Haddish left the public bewildered after she and comedian Aries Spears were hit with a 30-page lawsuit filed against them claiming they forced two underage siblings to participate in inappropriate acts for their skit titled “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes.”

While video of the disturbing project has been out for nearly a decade, it was recently re-shared across social media, leading many to take Haddish to task for choosing to be involved in the project.

Haddish has publicly spoken out about her decision to participate in “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes” and stated she regrets agreeing to act in it.

“I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about the situation as soon as I can.” Haddish included in a statement.

Haddish also uploaded a post directed at those in her life who walked out on her during her lawsuit situation.

The lawsuit against the “Night School” actress might be dropped, but her reputation damage in the entertainment business might take much longer to repair.

Lil Baby advocates to increase funding for art programs in schools

Lil Baby is lending his voice to the push for California schools to receive funding for the arts. At an Our Generation Music event held on Thursday (Oct. 6), he delivered impassioned remarks about the impact having access to creative outlets in school can have on students.

“A couple schools they got arts and crafts programs, but a majority of schools in the Atlanta Public Schools that I was in they don’t,” said the “Right On” rapper. He spoke alongside Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine, and former Los Angeles Unified Schools Superintendent Austin Beutner at a Proposition 28 panel at Santa Monica High School.

According to The Sacramento Bee, if passed, the proposition would provide LA schools with between $800 million to $1 billion in additional funding. The publication stated, “Just 1 in 5 California public schools have a full-time music or arts teacher, depriving millions of students of the opportunity.”

Baby added on to his comments about Atlanta schools, “They kinda cut from all of those opportunities. For a person like me, who grew up in that, if I had that opportunity I could’ve went way further. I know a lot of people who look up to me. For instance, like, ‘I want to be a rapper’ or ‘I want to be an engineer’ or ‘I want to make beats.’ It’s like, go start. If they had it in the school, I feel like that could be a whole other conversation for what children are doing outside of school. There’s nothing else to do.”

During the last recession, which took place between 2007 and 2009, school districts across the country, including Atlanta Public Schools, cut millions in funding that covered teacher salaries and art programs. According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, APS began the process of rebuilding arts curriculum at schools in 2017.

Nia Long Shares Family Photo With Sons Weeks After FiancΓ© Ime Udoka's Scandal

Nia Long is focused on enjoying time with those closest to her. Nearly three weeks after her fiancΓ© Ime Udoka spoke out about his suspension as head coach of the Boston Celtics, the Best Man actress shared a glimpse into her world with their son Kez, 10, as well as her son Massai, 21, from a previous relationship. Alongside an Oct. 9 Instagram selfie of the trio, she posted a black heart emoji.

In late September, Ime was suspended for the upcoming season as head coach of the Celtics for violating team policies. Although the organization did not go into detail as to what policies were broken, ESPN reported, citing multiple sources, that Ime was facing disciplinary action for allegedly having "an intimate relationship with a female member of the franchise's staff."

After news broke of his suspension, Ime broke his silence regarding the matter. "I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down," Ime said in a Sept. 22 statement. "I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team's decision."

Nia also spoke out regarding the situation the following day, asking for privacy as she navigated this time in her life.

"The outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community during this difficult time means so much to me," the actress said in a statement to E! News Sept. 23. "Above all, I am a mother and will continue to focus on my children."

Her latest post also comes less than a week after the actress shared a message about mental health to social media, posting a quote on Oct. 4 to Instagram that read in part, "Learn to distinguish who deserves an explanation, who deserves one answer, and who deserves absolutely nothing."

#OOOPS: Shangela calls out Dancing With the Stars host Alfonso Ribeiro for calling her Angela last week: 'Did you learn my name?'

Drag superstar Shangela called out Dancing With the Stars host Alfonso Ribeiro during a live moment on the latest episode of the competition series.

The moment happened after Alfonso talked about judge Derek Hough telling Shangela to work on her sickle feet and how he didn’t previously know about the term.

“The real question is though, did you learn my name?” Shangela said in response. On last week’s show, Alfonso mistakenly called her Angela during a moment on the live episode.

“Listen, okay… you got me before I got to you,” Alfonso said in response to being called out by Shangela for getting her name wrong.

The co-host mistakenly called her “Angela” during last week’s episode.

“Listen, I know, I wanted to say that in the last couple of weeks, I did actually say your name a couple of times wrong. I did say ‘Angela,’ which is my wife’s name. So it was a term of endearment, you know what I’m saying,” Alfonso said.

Shangela replied, “You know I love you baby. I love you baby and you are my Alfondo.” She clearly said his name wrong as a joke!

Two big stars were in the crowd at last week’s show of DWTS.

Kathie Lee Gifford Defends Regis Philbin Amid Claims in Kelly Ripa's Memoir, Explains Why She Won't Read the Book

Kathie Lee Gifford is speaking out to defend her late friend and former colleague Regis Philbin following the release of Kelly Ripa‘s memoir.

Kelly talked about her complicated relationship with Regis in the book after working with him for a decade on Live! with Regis and Kelly.

In a new interview, Kathie Lee talked about why she won’t be reading Kelly‘s book and she also responded to some of the things she’s read in recent headlines.

Here’s what Kathie Lee Gifford had to say about Kelly Ripa’s accusations…

While promoting the book, Kelly told People about working with Regis, “There were good and bad days. I don’t want to feel like I’m slamming anyone or that I’m being disrespectful. But I also want people to know it was not a cakewalk. It took years to earn my place there and earn things that are routinely given to the men I worked with. Including an office and a place to put my computer.”

“The biggest misconception is that it all came easily. People think I just showed up one day and was handed a job and I lived happily ever after and now everything’s perfect. But it never is that way,” she added.

Kathie Lee talked to Good Day New York on Monday (October 10) and talked about Kelly‘s book.

“I’m not gonna read the book. I haven’t read it. I don’t even know if it’s out yet,” she said. “I just know what Regis was to me. He was, for 15 years, the best partner a person could ever, ever have professionally, but he was my friend.”

“We were dear friends and after I left the show, for the next 20 years, we became better friends, dearer friends. I saw him two weeks before he died and the minute I found out he had passed, I got in my car and drove to their house,” she added.

“I was really sorry to see the headlines,” Kathie Lee said about seeing Kelly‘s book being promoted. “I saw that and I went, ‘Oh, I hope this isn’t true.’ I just hope it isn’t, because what’s the point? I don’t get it. In all the years I knew him, I never saw him unkind to anyone. I never did. If he liked you, he teased you.”

Kathie Lee said she prayed, “Lord, protect [his wife Joy Philbin] and the girls from this.”

Harvey Weinstein Prosecutor Was Removed From Case Over Attorney-Client Email

Paul Thompson, a prosecutor in the Los Angeles County D.A.’s sex crimes unit, is leading the case against Harvey Weinstein, which got underway on Monday morning.

But Thompson was not initially assigned to the case. The case was originally given to Lowrie Mendoza, a deputy district attorney who has prosecuted sex crimes for the last 14 years.

She and her boss, Christina Buckley, were both removed from the case in 2019 out of concern that they had been told of a confidential email between Weinstein and his defense lawyer, according to court declarations reviewed by Variety. An LAPD detective, Javier Vargas, was also removed from the case because he read the attorney-client email, according to the declarations.

Removing them would eliminate the possibility that an appeals court would later overturn a conviction due to that issue.

“I think they’re being cautious to try to avoid anything that would screw up the case,” said Peter Joy, a law professor at Washington University in St. Louis. “I think it’s a smart move.”

Buckley is the head of the D.A.’s sex crimes unit and she also led the task force created by the D.A.’s office in November 2017 to pursue Hollywood sex crimes cases.

According to the declaration, Mendoza was assigned to the Weinstein case the same month as the LAPD began its investigation. The Beverly Hills Police Department joined the case six months later. In January 2019, a BHPD detective obtained 1.8 million emails from Lantern Entertainment — the company that acquired the Weinstein Co. assets — in response to a search warrant.

Mendoza and detectives from several agencies began to sift through the emails using keywords. At one point, the BPHD detective narrowed the trove to about 100,000 emails, which was shared on a thumb drive with others in the investigative team.

On July 9, 2019, Vargas informed Mendoza that one of the emails in the trove was sent by Weinstein’s attorney at the time, Blair Berk, to an attorney in Italy. Weinstein was copied on the email, which would be subject to attorney-client privilege.

“He included a brief description of the email during our phone conversation,” Mendoza wrote in her declaration. “I immediately told him to shut down the drive containing the emails and to stop reviewing further emails. At the conclusion of the phone call with Detective Vargas, I sent an email to the investigative team entitled ‘STOP READING THE WEINSTEIN EMAILS.'”

Mendoza then told Buckley, and together they decided that everyone should return the emails to the BHPD detective. They also began to consider whether to obtain a “special master” to review the emails and screen out any attorney-client communications.

In August 2019, Buckley and Mendoza met with Maria Ramirez, the head of the bureau, and Cynthia Nakao, the D.A.’s professional responsibility adviser. Buckley and Mendoza were told that they, as well as Vargas, would be moved off the case.

“Following the meeting, I received a phone call from Bureau Director Ramirez reiterating that the Weinstein matter would have to be transferred to another attorney and that I would have no further involvement with the case,” Buckley wrote in a declaration. “I informed her that DDA Paul Thompson would be my recommendation for reassignment of the case.”

Thompson was told the next day that he would be taking over the case, and that he would report directly to Ramirez, and could not discuss the case with Buckley.

The D.A.’s office declined to comment for this story. Mark Werksman, one of Weinstein’s defense lawyers, said the trove of emails was found to be contaminated, and the decision to wall off the prosecutors who had been exposed to it was an “appropriate protocol.”

According to the declarations, Lantern represented to the investigators that the emails did not contain attorney-client communications. Even so, Joy suggested that it might have been wise to let a “taint team” review the emails at the outset.

“When you’re dealing with any entity like the Weinstein Co., the chances of some of the material you’re getting your hands on including attorney-client privileged material is not that unusual,” he said. “A better move would have been to have a taint team in place from the beginning.”

Thompson is also handling the prosecution of Ron Jeremy, the adult film actor who is facing 34 counts of rape and sexual assault relating to 23 women.

Back to the Future fans were left in tears this weekend as footage circulated social media capturing Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd’s reunion at New York Comic Con.

Thirty-seven years after the release of the 1985 Robert Zemeckis-directed sci-fi classic, Fox and Lloyd took the stage on Saturday to reflect on Back to the Future’s lasting legacy, as well as the duo’s long-lasting friendship.

Lloyd recalled how he found out that Fox had famously replaced Eric Stoltz in the role of Marty McFly.

“The announcement — at one o’ clock in the morning after we were shooting for six weeks — was that the actor playing Marty would no longer be playing Marty, and that tomorrow, we would start shooting with Michael,” Lloyd shared. “I felt that I barely made it through the [first] six weeks and now I was gonna have to do it again?!”

He added, “I didn’t know Michael other than hearing about him. And I felt that I had barely made it through the six weeks, and now I was going to have to do it again? There was immediate chemistry, as they say.”

Fox, 61, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29, revealed that Lloyd has always supported him over the years.

Comic Mogul Billionaire Byron Allen Buys Malibu Mansion for $100 Million

Billionaire mogul Byron Allen, CEO of Entertainment Studios and perhaps best known for buying The Weather Channel, purchased a Malibu mansion for $100 million, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The monster real estate deal represents the most ever paid for a home by an African-American buyer in the United States. It is also one of the highest prices paid for a residence in the U.S. this year.

Allen started as a comic who made his debut in 1979 at age 18 as the youngest comic to appear on The Tonight Show and soon gained further recognition as a host of Real People, a precursor to reality television in which he traded some of television’s worst one-liners with the likes of Skip Stephenson and Sarah Purcell. He later pivoted and made his fortune in media. Through Entertainment Studios, Allen owns local TV stations, multiple 24-hour cable channels and streaming networks, and is the producer and distributor of more than 60 syndicated TV shows.

The 11,000 square foot compound sits on 3.5 square acres, and overlooks the Pacific Ocean via a bluff. It includes a main four-bedroom house, along with two guesthouses. Amenities include a screening room and “winding path allowing the owner to drive a gold car or small vehicle down to the beach,” according to the WSJ.

Allen already has impressive homes in Aspen, New York, Maui and Beverly Hills. In March, Allen paid $32 million for two side-by-side homes in Beverly Hills, according to The Dirt. He purchased both properties from another billionaire, tech mogul and former eBay president Jeff Skoll. Those buys followed Allen’s purchase of another Beverly Hills manse in 2012 for an easy $17 million.

The residence previously belonged to self-storage heiress Tammy Hughes Gustavson and, before her, Gustavson’s dad, B. Wayne Hughes, who co-founded self-storage conglomerate Public Storage in 1972, according to WSJ.

In recent years, Allen has filed several multibillion-dollar racial discrimination lawsuits. In 2015, he filed a case against Comcast for not carrying stations and networks he owned. The case made it to the U.S. Supreme Court and was settled.

In May 2021, he filed a $10 billion lawsuit against McDonald’s for racial stereotyping when the burger mavens refused to buy what Allen felt was a fair amount of advertising from black-owned media, alleging that McD’s has a “tiered advertising structure that differentiates on the basis of race,” according to the Allen Media Group.

“I’m not a litigious person,” he told Los Angeles in August. “If I’m filing a lawsuit, it’s because I know we’re right.”

The mega mansion purchase is a high-profile move for Byron, who is usually a rather low-profile billionaire when he’s not suing.

“I’m a 61-year-old overnight sensation,” he told Los Angeles. “People just didn’t notice.”
