#FASHIONFAB: Cate Blanchett Becomes Louis Vuitton 'Spirit' Collection High Jewelry Ambassador

Louis Vuitton will unveil its largest high jewelry collection to date in Marrakech on July 4. Two-time Oscar winning actor Cate Blanchett will reveal the jewels July 4 in Marrakech, as the newest Louis Vuitton ambassador.

Solve Sundsbo [IG] photographs Blanchett for the ‘Spirit’ collection campaign breaking on Friday in WWD and in The Economist and the Financial Times ‘How to Spend It’ magazine on Saturday. The images were styled by Carine Roitfeld with artistic direction by Baron & Baron.

Earlier in June, Cate Blanchett handed out the LVMH Prize for Young Designers to S.S. Daley, wearing Vuitton at the ceremony in Paris.

“She’s one of a kind. She transcends culture, she transcends times, she transcends trends. Many things have changed, and she’s there, as relevant as ever,” said Michael Burke, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton, the most brilliant jewel in the LVMH crown.

“That staying power is not based just on looks. She has a very specific look, but that’s just the first thing you see. Staying power needs a lot more than just that. And her staying power is her character, how she engages, her humanity, her intelligence, the way she relates to people, how she can talk about so many different subjects. She has gravitas,” he added.

BREAKING: Robert “Bobby” Crimo III is said to be the alleged Highland Park Shooter, 6 Dead 26 injured!

Police are looking for 22-year-old Robert “Bobby” Crimo III and he is believed to be driving a 2010 silver Honda Fit, IL plate #DM80653.

They consider him armed-and-dangerous. Crimo III is believed to be from the North Shore, police said.

Original story:

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — Six people were killed and dozens were hospitalized in a shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, according to officials.

The downtown parade was disrupted around 10:10 a.m. Monday after shots were fired near Central Avenue and 2nd Street. At a news conference, Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said it appeared the gunman opened fire on parade-goers from a rooftop using a rifle that was later recovered at the scene.

Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill said the gunman, who is still on the loose and is considered armed and dangerous, is described as a white male, 18 to 20 years old, long black hair, small build and was wearing a white or blue T-shirt. He said a high-powered rifle was recovered on the scene.

Five adults were pronounced dead at the scene and other person, whose age was not given, died at the hospital, the Lake County Coroner said. At least one child was transported in critical condition, the fire department said.

In a late afternoon press conference, NorthShore Hospital said they received 26 total patients, including four to five children, and 25 had gunshot wounds. Nineteen victims have been treated and released and the total age ranges were from eight to 85 years old.

Witnesses reported seeing heavy police presence and fire vehicles and some said they saw multiple people running from the parade. Video circulating online shows the moment shots rang out, causing parade attendees to flee the area.

Seven law enforcement agencies, including state police and the Lake County Sherriff’s Office, are assisting with the active shooter response. As of 3:30 p.m., the suspect is not in custody but “an active apprehension effort is currently underway,” police said.

The public in the North Shore was being urged to shelter in place for several hours after the shooting. In the 3:30 p.m. press conference, police said anyone in the area of Green Bay Road to Laurel Avenue to St. John’s Avenue to Elm Place should continue to shelter in place. Anyone with any information, or anyone with video, is urged to call Highland Park police at 847-432-7730 or you can submit a tip to fbi.gov/highlandpark.

“This morning at 10:14 our community was terrorized by an act of violence that has shaken us to our core,” Mayor Nancy Rotering said. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this devasting time.”

Earlier in the day, police addressed rumors that were circulating throughout social media and said there is no indication that the gunman was barricaded or had hostages.

Officials said Fourth Fest, scheduled to start at noon, has been canceled. Metra service near the area has been suspended. Several surrounding suburbs have canceled their Fourth of July celebrations in response to the shooting.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said in a tweet that he is “closely monitoring the situation in Highland Park.”

The Highland Park reunification center is at 1677 Old Deerfield Road. The site is working with anyone looking for any children who ran away or are missing.

Several suburban firework events have been canceled following the shooting.

President Biden issued the following statement.

“Jill and I are shocked by the senseless gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on this Independence Day. As always, we are grateful for the first responders and law enforcement on the scene. I have spoken to Governor Pritzker and Mayor Rotering, and have offered the full support of the Federal government to their communities. I also surged Federal law enforcement to assist in the urgent search for the shooter, who remains at large at this time. Members of the community should follow guidance from leadership on the ground, and I will monitor closely as we learn more about those whose lives have been lost and pray for those who are in the hospital with grievous injuries.

I recently signed the first major bipartisan gun reform legislation in almost thirty years into law, which includes actions that will save lives. But there is much more work to do, and I’m not going to give up fighting the epidemic of gun violence.“

The Toronto rapper showed up as a surprise guest during the Backstreet Boys’ “DNA World Tour” stop in his hometown of Toronto on Saturday night (July 2).

After BSB introduced Drake as the “sixth member” of the boy band, the OVO boss hit the stage to help them perform “one of the greatest songs of all time,” “I Want It That Way.”

Wearing a C-Murder T-shirt, Drake revealed why the group’s 1999 hit holds such a special place in his heart, recalling his bar mitzvah at 13 years old.

“I was an awkward kid and I was in love with this girl at the time,” he told the crowd at Budweiser Stage. “At my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl who I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing. She asked me if I would dance with her. That’s the first time that I ever felt acknowledged. That’s the first time that I felt like I had a shot at being cool.”

Drizzy put his vocals and dance moves on display while singing along with band members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson.

“If she could see me now, you know what I’m talking about,” said Drizzy. “This is one of the greatest songs in music history.”

Afterwards, Nick Carter thanked the “king of Canada” for joining the group, while Drake relived the epic evening.

“When she says she’s over men in this generation and asks why I live alone…” he captioned his post.

#BOXOFFICENEWS: ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ Shatters July 4th Holiday Records With $127 Million Debut

“Minions: The Rise of Gru” set off fireworks at the box office, collecting $108 million over the weekend. By the time that July 4th rolls around on Monday, the animated family film is expected to reach a sizable $127.9 million.

Based on those estimates, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” will smash the record for the highest film opening over Independence Day, overtaking Paramount’s 2011 blockbuster “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” ($115.9 million over four days).

Ticket sales for the fifth installment in Universal and Illumination’s popular “Despicable Me” franchise are a comforting sign that family crowds haven’t entirely forgotten about movie theaters. After Disney’s Pixar film “Lightyear” fell short of expectations, Hollywood had been looking at “Minions: The Rise of Gru” to test the viability of animated flicks on the big screen. That’s because moviegoers with young kids — a demographic that’s vital in driving overall box office revenues — had returned only in fits and starts during the pandemic.

“This is a sensational opening,” says David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research. “Family animation, more than any other genre, has struggled to find its footing during the pandemic. This weekend, ‘Minions’ is breaking through and big animation is back in business.”

Overall, Fourth of July ticket sales are another encouraging sign that moviegoing is slowly but surely rebounding from COVID-19. In 2021, overall revenues around Independence Day tallied just $69 million as 20% of theaters were closed. Historically, the holiday that celebrates all things America can bring in between $150 million and $200 million at the box office, according to Comscore. This year, ticket sales are expected to fall between $190 million and $200 million from Friday and Sunday and look to hit $250 million by Monday.

Illumination veteran Kyle Balda directed “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” which takes place in the 1970s as a young Gru (the baddie-turned-daddy from “Despicable Me,” voiced by Steve Carell) tries to test the waters of supervillain life. Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Julie Andrews round out the voice cast. Film critics were mixed on “Minions 2,” which holds a 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, though reviews rarely matter for kids’ movies. Audiences awarded the film an “A” CinemaScore.

“‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ is a joyous film,” says Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “Illumination and [its CEO] Chris Meledandri have done an amazing job with this franchise. And Steve Carell as Gru… it doesn’t get any better than that.”

For the “Minions” sequel, overseas appeal is key to turning a profit because Gru’s highlighter-colored henchmen are especially popular outside of the U.S. International ticket sales accounted for 71% of overall ticket sales for the first “Minions” spinoff. Already, the follow-up film has amassed $93.7 million, bringing its global tally to $202.2 million.

This weekend’s other new release, Bleecker Street’s romantic comedy “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” collapsed in its debut, grossing a paltry $851,854 from 1,384. By Monday, the film is expected to pass the $1 million mark — a bleak benchmark for a movie that’s playing nationwide. Emma Holly Jones directed the regency era film, starring Zawe Ashton (“Velvet Buzzsaw”), Sope Dirisu (“Gangs of London”) and Freida Pinto.

In second place, “Top Gun: Maverick” dropped a scant 14% to bring in $25.5 million from 3,843 theaters in its sixth weekend of release. Through the holiday on Monday, ticket sales are expected to reach $32.5 million. Paramount’s patriotic sequel has generated $570 million to date and stands as the highest-grossing movie of the year in North America. Internationally, “Top Gun: Maverick” has collected $544.5 million for a global tally of $1.11 billion.

Last weekend’s champion “Elvis” slid to the No. 3 spot, collecting $19 million from 3,932 venues over the weekend. So far, the Warner Bros. musical biopic has accumulated $67 million in North America. “Elvis,” which stars Austin Butler as the king of rock and roll, hit $113 million globally over the weekend, including $34 million overseas.

Universal also took slots four and five, “Jurassic World Dominion” and “The Black Phone,” giving the studio a rare three spots in the top five.

The sixth chapter in the “Jurassic” franchise took in $15.6 million over the weekend and looks to bring that number to $19.1 by Monday. After four weeks on the big screen, “Dominion” has amassed $335.3 million at the domestic box office and $824.5 million worldwide.

Blumhouse’s thriller “The Black Phone” collected $12.3 million from 3,156 theaters over the weekend and should end Monday with $14.6 million. Since its debut last weekend, “The Black Phone” has grossed $49.7 million in North America and $74.4 million globally.

In sixth place, “Lightyear” declined a sizable 64%, bringing in just $6.6 million from 3,800 theaters over the weekend. The film looks to finish Monday with $8.1 million. “Lightyear” crossed the $100 million mark in its third weekend in theaters, which is a threshold that most Pixar releases reach in the first few days of release. Based on three-day estimates, “Lightyear” has generated $105.4 million in North America and $187 million globally.

Elsewhere, A24 continues to bring “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” to additional movie theaters. The feel-good animated film grossed $307,739 from 22 screens, translating to an impressive $13,988 per location. After two weekends in limited release, “Marcel the Shell” has earned $530,751. The charming story about a plucky shell (voiced by Jenny Slate) will expand into additional markets in the coming weeks.

OMG! Justin Bieber’s Grandmother Survives Near-Fatal Car Accident

Justin Bieber’s grandmother, Kathy Bieber, was involved in a serious car accident in the singer’s hometown of Stratford, Ontario on Saturday.

TMZ reports news of the crash broke via a Facebook public community page dedicated to classic cars in the Stratford area. A photo was posted on the page, showing a red and white convertible engulfed in smoke.

Brandan Steven, who also appears to be related to Justin, took to the page to claim he was involved in the accident with Kathy, Bieber’s grandmother on his dad Jeremy’s side.

“We were at a dead stop as a car was turning left a couple cars in front of us,” Steven explained. “Then a distracted driver rear ended us they say she had to be doing 70.”

He added, “Wasn’t good had to pull my grandmother out of car. could have been very bad if we were in there for even another 5 seconds as the doors were binded shut.”

The news arrives just a few weeks after Bieber canceled his remaining North American tour dates after informing fans that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Justin took to Instagram on June 10 to reveal that he’d been experiencing facial paralysis due to his diagnosis.

Bodycam Footage Reveals the Full Scope of Police Fatally Shooting Jayland Walker

Akron officials on Sunday released body camera video showing the police shooting death of Jayland Walker.

Walker, 25, was shot more than 60 times by multiple officers in Akron, Ohio. Captain Dave Laughlin, of the Akron Police Department, confirmed that eight officers were at the scene. It is not yet known which of them fired their weapons in excess of 90 times.

“This is gong to be a brutal video,” Attorney Bobby DiCello, representing Walker’s family, told USA Today ahead of the release. “It’s going to stir up some passion. It’s going to make people uneasy,” he added. The city braced for protests and possible civil unrest ahead of the footage being released.

Social justice advocates and demonstrators all assembled in front of the city courthouse chanting, “No justice, no peace.” Walker’s death marked the third fatal officer involved shooting in Akron in the past six months. Mayor Dan Horrigan said the footage was “heart-breaking” as it showed how the incident unfolded.

The recent tragedy spawned from an attempted traffic stop last Monday (June 27) in the North Hill neighborhood. Officers said they were unsuccessful in their attempts to stop Walker’s vehicle. In the footage, Walker is seen leading officers on a short pursuit before exiting the vehicle wearing a ski mask, and fleeing on foot.

After being pursued for a short while, Walker stops running in a nearby parking lot. In that moment he turns towards officers who then opened fire. Walker was not armed. Police did, however, recover a gun from the passenger seat of his vehicle.

Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett said bodycam footage also showed officers administering aid to Walker. Soon after he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide, noting his body was riddled with bullet wounds. The Beacon Journal reported, Walker had wounds to his face, abdomen, and legs.

At the conclusion of the press conference, Mayor Horrigan asked that citizens try to remain peaceful. “There is no doubt that the video you just watched is extremely disturbing, and will stir a lot of emotions, and feel shocking and hard to take in. But we are collectively calling for peace this afternoon,” he said.

In a previous joint statement, Horrigan and Police Chief Stephen L. Mylett said the shooting marked another dark day for the city. “Tragically, we are once again faced with a young man, with his life before him, gone too soon. Every single life is precious, and the loss of any life is absolutely devastating to our entire community.” Mylett also said the eight officers have been placed on paid administrative leave. The shooting is being investigated by the Criminal Bureau of Investigation and the State Attorney General’s Office.

TMZ broke the news after capturing photos of the longtime couple out in Beverly Hills on Saturday, with Aiko showing her baby bump.

It's unclear how far along "The Worst" singer is in her pregnancy, but the couple, both 34, addressed the news on Instagram.

Sean, took to his Instagram Story calling the pregnancy a "whole new motivation," and gushing over his excitement at becoming a dad.

"Whole new motivation foreal!" Sean wrote. Very grateful God continues to bless us, Thank you." Adding in separate post, "Can't wait to be a dad."

Aiko, for her part, subtly alluded to the news, sharing a black-and-white photo her as a child, cradling her stomach like an expectant mother-to-be.

The post was met with lots of love from the singer's fans, with comments of congratulations and excitement being sent the couple's way.

The TWENTY88 singers first started dating in 2016 with Aiko telling DJ Khaled in a Feb. 2021 interview, that their romance was built on a foundation of friendship.

"Our friendship is really strong, so that has made our relationship what it is, just that foundation of real friends who really know each other on that level," Aiko said at the time.

The couple dated on and off before briefly calling it quits in 2019. They later got back together in early 2020.

ET last spoke to Sean and Aiko at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards, about what they hope their music means for the world.

"I think for me, everything that I do, you know, the people that I've lost, I do it for them," the "Stay Ready" singer added. "I carry their dreams with me as well."

With Sean sharing that it's their responsibility to carry on the music of Black artists and people of color who have been lost to tragedy in recent years.

"Not only are we carrying their dreams, they paved the way for us," Sean shared. "It's a continuous fight, and it's really our responsibility to carry it on because it's not over, it's far from over."

"We got to represent who we are and the road ahead of us is a long one but we're here to take it," he added.

Wyclef Jean says don't "lose hope" awaiting the Fugees Reunion tour

Wyclef Jean says a Fugees tour is still in the works. The group’s reunion tour that was slated to kick off this past November was canceled not long after dates were announced. At the time, the group said dates were expected to be rescheduled for early 2022, but that has yet to happen.

“All I could do is tell you that with the Fugees, I’m very excited and I look forward to it getting rescheduled,” the “Gone Til November” rapper told HipHopDX. Jean is among the scores of celebrities currently living it up in New Orleans as they celebrate Black culture at the ESSENCE Festival. Jean also shocked fans this weekend as he reunited with group mate Lauryn Hill to perform some of their hits. The Fugees — comprised of Jean, Hill, and Pras Michel– only released two studio albums together. Their most iconic body of work is their 1996 release, The Score. The tour was announced as a celebration of the album being released 25 years ago.

“I look forward. As a fan of the Fugees, I’m very excited,” he continued. All I could do is just tell all the fans, do not lose hope, because y’all know we the Hip Hop Grateful Dead. We going to get this thing cracking.” The last time the trio performed together was in September as part of Global Citizen Live.

“The Fugees have a complex but impactful history,” said Hill at the event. “I wasn’t even aware the 25th anniversary had arrived until someone brought it to my attention. I decided to honor this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”

The Fugees said the impact of COVID-19 played a part in the decision to postpone the 12-city tour. “[We] ensure the best chance that all cities on the tour are fully open so we can perform for as many fans as possible,” said the group in a statement released on their behalf.

'The Best Man: The Final Chapters' Images Show the Friends Back Together

The time has come to re-arrange your schedule to include ample binge time as Peacock has just unveiled the release dates for its string of original shows. Among them is The Best Man: The Final Chapters — a limited series based on the hit Universal film franchise The Best Man. Peacock had ordered a limited series in early 2021, announcing that the season premiere would include 10 episodes. The streaming platform has now announced that the limited series will premiere on December 22 just in time for the holiday season.

The Best Man: The Final Chapters, as with the film series, will be a star-studded affair, reuniting its original cast that includes Regina Hall, Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Harold Perrineau, Melissa De Sousa, Terrance Howard, Sanaa Lathan, and Nia Long. In addition to announcing the release date, Peacock also gave a sneak peek at the limited series by releasing two images.

In one of the images, the men (Terrence Howard, Taye Diggs, Harold Perrineau, and Morris Chestnut) are seen sitting at a round table having fun with a game of cards and sharing drinks. Howard and Chestnut are seen in a fist bump while Diggs and Perrineau are laughing probably at a joke made by one of the men, one we can imagine could stir up controversy later. The second image shows two of the ladies (Lathan and Hall) engaging in a chit-chat while setting the table for a meal. While the images show everyone to be in a happy mood, fans know better than to expect all wine and roses from these characters.

The Best Man: The Final Chapters is set at a time when the couples have evolved to their mid-lives and now have to navigate the issues that accompany that dreaded period. Old wounds are opened along the line, making the journey a bumpy one for everyone involved. The limited series will seek to conclude the story which began in 1999 with the first film The Best Man and continued with the second Christmas-themed installment The Best Man Holiday released in 2013. A third film, The Best Man Wedding was originally planned to tie up the story but it never saw the light of day due to scheduling issues. Now, after almost a decade of waiting, fans of the film series will finally get to see how their favorite couples ended up. Will it be happily ever after for everyone? We’ll know on December 22.

Joining the original ensemble cast are Nicole Ari Parker (And Just Like That), Ron Canada (The Good Fight), Brandon Victor Dixon (Jesus Christ Superstar Live!), Michael Genet (Billions), Yvonna Pearson (Dynasty), Aaron Serotsky (The Survivor), and Terrence Terrell (Giants). The Best Man: The Final Chapter is written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee. Lee also serves as the executive producer under his Blackmaled Productions with co-executive producers including Hivemind‘s Sean Daniel, and North of Loud Sis Productions’ Dayna Lynne. Charles Stone III, Robert Townsend, and Stacey Muhammad all shared the director’s chair with Lee.

The Best Man: The Final Chapter hits Peacock on December 22.

Johnny Depp’s Winning Verdict Should Be Tossed Out For New Trial, Amber Heard Says; Jury Vetting Questions Raised

A month after Johnny Depp won his multi-million defamation trial against Amber Heard, the ex-Pirates of the Caribbean star now officially faces the first attempt to smack down his legal victory, with a harsh one-two-punch.

“For all the reasons set forth above, and for the reasons set forth on the record during the hearings and at trial, in the Motions in Limine and Motions to Strike, Ms. Heard respectfully requests this Court to set aside the jury verdict in favor of Mr. Depp and against Ms. Heard in its entirety, dismiss the Complaint, or in the alternative, order a new trial,” says a not unexpected memorandum filed July 1 in Virginia Circuit Court by the Aquaman star’s attorneys (read it here).

Heard has long alleged that she suffered violent domestic abuse from Depp. She told a UK court in 2020, and the US trial this year that she had also been repeatedly sexually abused by Depp.

Almost from the moment the over $10 million verdict came down on June 1 overwhelmingly for an absent Depp in Judge Penney Azcarate’s Fairfax, VA courtroom, Heard’s Eliane Bredehoft-led defense and $100 million countersuit team made it crystal clear that they were going to appeal. A requirement by a curt Judge Azcarate at a June 24 final judgement hearing that Heard has to put up a $8.35 million bond to kick off any appeal only merely seems to close off one point of entry for now as another opened up.

However, what is a surprising, is the jury directed uppercut Heard unleashed. Unlike the almost boilerplate request for the verdict to be deep-sixed on precedent and process grounds, claims of sloppy jury vetting could be explosive.

“Ms. Heard further requests this Court to investigate potential improper juror service and take appropriate action warranted by the results of the investigation,” the 43-page memo declares. In a case full of pretzel twists ever since Depp first sued his ex-wife and Rum Diary co-star for $50 million in early 2019 over a late 2018 Washington Post op-end with her byline on it, this move against the integrity of the court itself via Juror No. 15 is a new found high risk strategy.

“The information on the jury panel list appears to be inconsistent with the identity and demographics of one of the Jurors,” exclaims the Bredehoft signed memo. “Juror No. 15 was apparently born in 1970, not 1945, as reported to and relied upon by the parties – including Ms. Heard – in selecting a jury panel,” the document goes on to say.

“Given the requirements for verification of each juror, it appears the identity of the juror was not verified,” it adds damningly of the Old Dominion court. “It is unclear if Juror No. 15 was in fact ever summoned for jury duty or qualified to serve on the panel. This warrants an investigation by this Court to determine if the Juror was in fact summoned, and whether the due process rights of the parties were bypassed. Depending upon the results of the investigation, this may justify setting aside the verdict in its entirety and setting this matter for a new trial.”

After an explicit six-week trial, the seven-person jury handed Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages — the latter of which was cut down to $350,000 due to the ceiling under Virginia law. Echoing statements made by Heard and her attorneys since the trial concluded, the new-ish July 1 memo says that “the verdict is excessive as a matter of law in light of the evidence and law, and should be set aside.”

“Further evidencing the confusion resulting from Mr. Depp’s efforts to relitigate the 2016 domestic relations matter without the truth of the UK judgment, the jury’s dueling verdicts are inconsistent and irreconcilable,” the memo goes on to say, putting emphasis on both the volatile couple’s temporary restraining order punctuated divorce. It also grinds in some salt by spotlighting Depp’s loss on the other side of the Atlantic in late 2020 in his libel suit against Rupert Murdoch’s The Sun tabloid for calling him a “wife beater.”

“The finding of defamation against Ms. Heard with a $2 million award is inconsistent with the finding of defamation against Mr. Depp with a $15 million award,” the paperwork notes of what many saw as a head scratcher of a decision off Heard’s 2020 countersuit.

Though the mainly ACLU-written op-ed in the Jeff Bezos-owned WaPo never actually mentioned Depp by name, the litigious actor claimed it “devastated” his already waning career. In court filings and on the stand, Depp went on to claim that he was in fact the one who was abused in the relationship.

Rarely mention the First Amendment up until closing arguments, Heard’s team are now focusing on the scope and depth necessary to reach a defamation claim, as Depp has done so far. A standard, they say, the past Oscar nominee and his Brown Rudnick LLP crew did not meet:

For the jury to find Ms. Heard demonstrated actual malice, Mr. Depp was required to establish at the time the Op-Ed was published, Ms. Heard did not believe she had been abused or that she had doubts about whether she was abused. But Mr. Depp presented no evidence that Ms. Heard did not believe she was abused. Instead, the evidence overwhelmingly supported Ms. Heard believed she was the victim of abuse at the hands of Mr. Depp. Therefore, Mr. Depp did not meet the legal requirements for actual malice, and the verdict should be set aside.

Reps for Depp and his Ben Chew and Camille Vasquez-led legal team did not return request for comment today on the new Heard motion and the accompanying memo. On the other hand, the Hollywood Vampires guitarist Depp himself, having turned up on stage a few times with Jeff Beck in the UK last month during and after the jury’s deliberations, did take to social media this weekend. Displaying a little less swagger than he had online in the hours and day immediately following the defamation case verdict, Depp too did not have any direct response to the new filing – yet:

Adele Says She ‘Was a Shell of a Person’ After Las Vegas Residency Cancelation

Adele has shared that she felt like “a shell of a person for a couple months” after abruptly canceling her “Weekends With Adele” Las Vegas residency in January — just days before it was set to begin.

In an interview with Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4, the singer says that she felt guilty about disappointing fans who had paid thousands of dollars to attend.

“I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal,” Adele shared.

Adele first tearfully broke the news of the cancelations in a video posted on her Instagram, in which she told fans that dates would be rescheduled with additional information to come.

She told BBC host Lauren Laverne that she felt she needed to deal with the backlash of the canceled event privately, admitting “the show was not good enough. Maybe my silence has been deadly, I don’t know. But it was horrible.”

Despite feeling bad for the fans, Adele said she does not regret the overall decision to cease the residency although “I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated, and I was frightened about letting them down. I’d thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t. I stand by that decision… I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money.”

Adele told Laverne, “Of course I could be someone on TikTok or Instagram Live every day, being like ‘I’m working on it’. Of course I’m working on it! I’m not gonna update you if I ain’t got nothing to update you with, because that just leads to more disappointment.”

However, Adele did touch on the prospect of rearranging her U.S. schedule during her concert at Hyde Park Friday evening , saying that new dates would be coming “very, very soon.”

“I had my shows that I was supposed to be doing but they didn’t happen,” she said Friday. “I’m just waiting on one piece of equipment.”

The appearance at London’s BST Hyde Park Festival marked Adele’s first public performance in five years. The two-hour set included songs from her latest album “30” as well as hits like “Rumour Has It” and “Rolling In the Deep.”

Peter Brook, Tony-Winning Theater Director, Dies at 97

Peter Brook, the British-born director who won Tonys and Emmys but is best known for his theater work ranging from Broadway’s “Marat/Sade” and “Irma La Douce” to experimental productions like “The Mahabarata,” has died. He was 97.

Brook’s death was confirmed by his long-time publisher, and later the BBC, on Sunday. He died in Paris, where he has lived since the 1970s. One of Brook’s final works, at 92 years old, was “The Prisoner,” which he wrote and staged in Paris as well as the Edinburgh festival and London’s National Theatre. Just this year, he staged directed “The Tempest Project” with Marie-HΓ©lΓ¨ne Estienne, his long-time collaborator.

His career spanned eight decades and included opera, plays, musicals, as well as film and TV productions. After decades of bringing an unorthodox approach to traditional works from the likes of Shakespeare and Puccini, he moved to Paris, where he became even more daring and experimental: In one piece, audiences watched a French theater troupe perform in a language the actors had invented themselves.

Brook’s most memorable productions include the 1964 “Marat/Sade,” which brought dazzling theatricality to Peter Weiss’ complex play about the Marquis de Sade and the inmates at an asylum. When it transferred to Broadway in 1966, Brook won a Tony, and won a second for his startling “Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

That Shakespeare production, which debuted in England in 1970, featured a plain white-box set by Sally Jacobs and few props or set pieces. The actors appeared in factory-worker clothes or colorful baggy suits like from a Chinese circus, and swung on trapezes, spun plates and juggled while performing. The result was theater magic, illuminating Shakespeare’s text by making it seem contemporary, playful and accessible.

In Variety’s Jan. 27, 1971 review, Hobe Morrison hailed Brook as “one of the most daringly creative stage directors in the world” and predicted that it would set a standard for future productions. “Dream” featured such then-unknown actors as Patrick Stewart and Ben Kingsley, who decades later told Variety, “That production changed my life.”

Brook was born in London and educated at Westminster and Magdalen College Oxford. His first job as director was for a 1943 “Dr. Faustus” in London. From 1947 to 1950, he was director of productions at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Among his productions was Strauss’ “Salome” featuring sets by Salvador Dali. He later directed operas for the Metropolitan Opera and the Aix en Provence Festival.

He worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1950 through 1970, including directing Paul Scofield in “King Lear,” Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh in “Titus Andronicus” and John Gielgud in “Measure for Measure.”

In his 1979 memoir “Gielgud: an Actor and His Time,” the thesp wrote, “Peter Brook has become something of a legend now, but in the 1950s at Stratford he was still very young, approachable and jolly….He did everything himself, designed the scenery, found the music, controlled the lighting.” The actor added, “I would do anything he asked me. I trust him entirely for his beautiful taste and marvelous imagination.”

Throughout his career, Brook questioned theatrical conventions and tried to break boundaries whenever possible.

In 1970, Brook and Micheline Rozan founded the International Centre for Theatre Research, a group of multinational actors, artists, dancers and musicians. It then became the International Center for Theatre Creations and established a permanent base, the Bouffes du Nord Theatre.

His theater company became less theatrical and more primal, using myth, legend, music, mime and improvisation. They generally avoided traditional Western theater venues and traveled throughout the Middle East and Africa with their work in the early 1970s. Many pieces were performed both in French and English. Sometimes the actors improvised text, and sometimes they used no text at all.

Aside from many original pieces and works by relatively unknown writers, productions there include “The Iks” by Colin Turnbull (1975); works by Chekhov, Samuel Beckett, Caryl Churchill and Athol Fugard; and adaptations of Mozart and Oliver Sachs.

Brook was influenced by the experimental theater work of Antonin Artaud, Jerzy Grotowski and Bertolt Brecht, but he said his greatest influence was Joan Littlewood, whose credits included “Oh, What a Lovely War.”

His experiments were always interesting but not always successful. Reaction was split on his 1985 “Mahabarata,” a two-part, nine-hour retelling of the epic Sanskrit poem that is India’s equivalent of Homer’s works. In a 1987 review when the production toured in the U.S., Variety called it an act of “admirable lunacy,” declaring that there were “two hours of dazzling theatrical brilliance spread out over a nine-hour running time.” The review concluded that in condensing the original, there were few concessions to Western audiences; key aspects of the Eastern mythology were never explained, and the minimalist simplicity and dialog made the tale seem flat and remote.

In 2008, he resigned as artistic director of Bouffes du Nord, handing the reins over to Olivier Mantei and Olivier Poubelle. However, Brook continued to work with them.

In 2014, he was still working hard at age 89. There was a U.S. tour of “The Suit.” He and Estienne, working with musician-composer Franck Krawczyk, adapted Can Themba’s 1950s short story set in a South African Township. The work used four actors and three musicians and everything from songs by Billie Holiday to Schubert and African songs. Also in 2014, Theatre des Bouffes du Nord premiered “The Valley of Astonishment,” the third in a series of plays that he and Estienne spent more than 20 years developing.

Brook’s films were mostly versions of his staged work: “Marat/Sade” (1967), the anti-Vietnam war piece “Tell Me Lies” (1968), “King Lear” (1971) and a 2002 TV version of “Hamlet” starring Adrian Lester. Two notable exceptions were his stark black-and-white adaptation of William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies” in 1963, and the intellectual “Meetings With Remarkable Men” (1979).

He won a 1984 Emmy Award for “La tragedie de Carmen” (based on a theater piece) and a 1990 International Emmy for “The Mahabharata” miniseries.

His 1968 book “The Empty Space,” in which he advocated continual exploration and spontaneity in theater work, became a bible of experimental theater, translated into more than 15 languages. His autobiography “Threads of Time” was published in 1998, and he also wrote “The Shifting Point” (1987) and “There Are No Secrets” (1993).

He was awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1965 and Commandeur de la LΓ©gion d’honneur (France) in 2013. Brook was also the subject of a 2014 docu, “Peter Brook: The Tightrope,” made by his son Simon and showing Brook at work with actors.

Brook was married to actor Natasha Parry for 64 years, until her death in 2015. He is survived by his children with Parry, a son and daughter.

Ricky Martin Denies Domestic Abuse Allegations Following Restraining Order

Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin is denying domestic abuse allegations following a restraining order filed in his homeland.

The order allegedly involves a petitioner, whom officials didn’t name, that broke up with the Latino singer after dating him for seven months, The Associated Press reported via Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero.

Martin allegedly didn’t accept the breakup and loitered by the petitioner’s house “at least three times,” the newspaper reported.

Officials attempted to serve the order, signed Friday, to the singer in Dorado, Puerto Rico, to no avail, police spokesman Axel Valencia told The Associated Press.

“Up until now, police haven’t been able to find him,” Valencia said.

Martin’s representatives, in a statement to People, denied the allegations.

“The allegations against Ricky Martin that lead to a protection order are completely false and fabricated,” Martin’s representatives told People. “We are very confident that when the true facts come out in this matter our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated.”

The news comes after Martin’s former talent manager Rebecca Drucker sued him last week with claims that he owes her over $3 million in unpaid commissions, Insider reported.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Martin “constantly mistreated, manipulated, and lied” to Drucker.

The lawsuit also describes how she allegedly “protected” the singer from “his reckless indiscretions” including a “devastating” scandal, nonpayment of taxes and substance abuse.

Martin’s team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.

Man Gets Arrested For Allegedly ‘Threatening’ And Stalking Taylor Swift ‘Across Multiple States’

A man named Joshua Christian, who is alleged to have stalked Taylor Swift “across multiple states” was arrested and ordered to stay away from the “Shake It Off” chart-topper. The 35-year-old from Crown Heights, Brooklyn was booked on Friday on stalking charges after the New York Police Department tracked him down at his home.

His arraignment was held on Saturday in a Manhattan criminal court, where it was uncovered that Joshua is believed to have made multiple attempts to get close to the Grammy winner. Just last month, Joshua is alleged to have shown up at Taylor’s home in Manhattan with the “intent to annoy and harass” her, a source told TMZ.

After failing to gain access to her property, an insider claimed he buzzed Taylor’s intercom and threatened to harm her if she refused to let him inside, though it remains unclear whether she was actually at home when the incident took place. “You’re dead you know. You’re holding her prisoner and I need to set her free,” the accused is quoted saying into the intercom, the assistant district attorney stated.

Joshua was also alleged to have turned up to her Tribeca Franklin Street home in March, showing clear signs that his repeated offences have given all the more reason to believe Joshua could be a danger to the “Style” singer. “The defendant has not only repeatedly shown up to Ms Swift’s home here in New York but has traveled to her home in Tennessee as well,” a prosecutor argued during the criminal court arraignment.

“The people are also investigating an additional incident of stalking and are awaiting video surveillance to confirm the defendant’s identity.”

News of Joshua’s arrest comes just days after reports claimed Taylor is engaged to her longtime beau Joe Alwyn as the couple plan for a “simple and elegant” forthcoming wedding. While it’s unclear when the engagement took place, The Sun asserts that Joe had popped the question a few months ago, with Taylor only ever wearing her engagement ring “behind closed doors.”

Taylor began dating Joe shortly after calling it quits with music producer Calvin Harris. Her romance with the English actor and songwriter wasn’t confirmed until the fall of 2016, and while her previous relationships were heavily covered in the media, Taylor decided to be extra private when she began seeing her current beau.

In a 2018 interview with British Vogue, Taylor coyly addressed her love life but insisted she preferred to be talking about her career than who she’s dating. “I’m aware people want to know about that side of things,” she said. “I think we have been successfully very private, and that has now sunk in for people… but I really prefer to talk about work.”

Texas Board of Education Strikes Down Call to Rebrand Slavery in Classrooms as ‘Involuntary Relocation’

A proposal to teach slavery to second graders in Texas as ‘involuntary relocation’ has been struck down in a unanimous decision by the State Board of Education.

The proposal was put together by a group of nine educators including a professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, according to the Texas Tribune who initially reported on the story.

Every decade, the state board considers new policy on how students are being taught—but can approve or deny proposals based on votes.

The June 15 meeting lasted 15 hours and the introduced proposal would directly impact the second grade social studies classes in Texas’ 8,866 public schools.

Senate Bill 3 was released last year as an answer to Critical Race Theory, which is taught on the collegiate level and has to do with racism as a social construct that continues to impact institutions today—since racism continues to prevail.

The bill speaks to how race—specifically slavery is taught in Texas. Unallowed to be referenced as part of the founding of the U.S., slavery is to be touched on, as a ‘deviation from American values.’

Neil Shanks, clinical assistant professor of middle and secondary education at Baylor University told The Hill that involuntary relocation isn’t an unknown term in social studies—“(it) has relationships to refugees and forced displacement due to violence or ethnic cleansing,” he said.

In reference to the proposal submitted by the group of nine educators, Shanks added, the term appeared to be “intended to water down the issue of slavery.”

The State Board of Education for Texas took to Twitter to talk about their initial denial of the proposal, and the term involuntary relocation, specifically.

Annette Gordon-Reed, a history professor at Harvard University spoke to the Tribune about the term and expressed her concerns about the obstruction of the accuracy of what occurred during slavery.

“Young kids can grasp the concept of slavery and being kidnapped into it,” Gordon-Reed said. “The African slave trade is unlike anything that had or has happened, the numbers and distance.”

In 2015, a textbook publisher in Texas came under fire over one of its geography textbooks, which referred to slaves in America as “workers.”

Aicha Davis, a Democrat representing Dallas and Fort Worth said the language in the proposal isn’t a fair representation of the history of slavery in America. “I can’t say what their intention was, but that’s not going to be acceptable,” she told the Tribune.

The Houston Federation of Teachers president shares Davis’ sentiments and told ABC13, “Here we go with another attempt to whitewash the truth,” said Jackie Anderson. “There is no way that slavery could actually be called involuntary relocation and get the same meaning as what true slavery is.”

Chris Rock and Lake Bell fuel romance rumors with dinner date in LA

Chris Rock and Lake Bell are adding more fuel to those romance rumors.

In exclusive pics obtained by Page Six, the pair were spotted leaving a dinner date at celebrity hot spot Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, Calif., Saturday night.

The comedian, 57, wore a white sweater with matching white pants, which he accessorized with brown dress shoes and aviator sunglasses tucked into his shirt.

Bell, 43, opted for an all-black ensemble, featuring a wrap top with a plunging neckline and black jeans.

The “Bless This Mess” star completed her chic look with black slingback heels and her brunette tresses styled in loose waves.

We’re told the duo arrived around 8:45 p.m. and dined for almost two hours. According to an eyewitness, Rock and Bell were holding hands as they walked out of the upscale Italian restaurant, but immediately let go of each other when they saw the photographers.

Reps for Rock and Bell did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

Their Fourth of July outing comes less than one month after the two were spotted together at Busch Stadium in St. Louis for a Cardinals game.

The rumored pair were hanging out in a box together, as seen in footage obtained by TMZ at the time, though they appeared to keep a low profile at the event.

While Rock may be keeping quiet about his personal life, the “Grown Ups” actor hasn’t been shy when it comes to cracking jokes about the infamous 2022 Oscars smackdown.

After Will Smith slapped him onstage during the 94th Academy Awards in March, Rock has since quipped that words don’t hurt as much as being hit in the face.

“I’m OK, if anybody was wondering,” Rock said during his “Ego Death” show at UK’s Royal Albert Hall in May. “I got most of my hearing back.”

Rock noted that he wouldn’t be discussing the altercation between him and Smith, 53, any further — at least not until he secured a comedy special.

Teyana Taylor & Daughter Junie Shumpert Create JuJuBeez Clothing

*Singer/actress Teyana Taylor and her daughter Iman “Junie” Shumpert have become one of the industry’s most famous fashionable mother-daughter duos. Now the duo has decided to take things a notch higher by creating a clothing line they say is strictly for mothers and their little daughters. The collection consists of marching clothes for mothers and daughters.

Teyana announced on her Instagram page that she collaborated with her baby girl and her clothing line, JujuBeez.

“I teamed up with boss lady @babyjunie4 & her clothing brand @jujubeezclothing for a special mommy and me desert collection with @thmbl We’ve been working on this for a min & is sooooooooo excited to share with you guys!!” read the Instagram statement the “Hold on” singer posted.

The Harlem native added that she and her daughter wanted to create outfits that are cozy and also designed to keep the family stylish.

Talking to WWD, she said, “For Junie and I, it was all about effortless style — easy pieces that we could incorporate within our day-to-day. We play with a lot of neutrals that very much fit into my aesthetic, alongside bold graphic prints. Our first collection features active and loungewear styles that will have you acing the drop-off outfit of the day and your mini-setting the hallway trends.”

The line comprises neutral colors such as black, tan, grey, and blue. Pieces of clothing range from matching bucket hats, short sets, hoodies, legging sets, zip-up shirts with matching biker shorts, and varsity jackets. Prices are between $20 to $129.

Taylor says that the collaboration is also partly to show her daughter Junie that as a Black woman, the sky is the limit.

“I love the collision of masculine and feminine styles within my own wardrobe and wanted to represent that within this mama-and-mini collection,” said the Coming to America 2 star. “I’ve always wanted to create a world for Junie that shows there are no limits, fear isn’t real and you can do whatever you dream to do. This is one of many steps in an effort to change the narrative that is placed on women while growing up and being told what they can and cannot do. I want to change that narrative and I will — anything is possible.”

Google Will Delete User’s Location History If It Detects Their Visiting Abortion Clinics

Google is using its power to help those that could be negatively impacted by the overturn of Roe v. Wade. The company announced that the location history of abortion clinics would be deleted from the user’s history.

“Today, we’re announcing that if our systems identify that someone has visited one of these places, we will delete these entries from Location History soon after they visit,” wrote Jen Fitzpatrick, Google’s senior vice president of core systems and experiences, said in a blog posted on Friday.

Fitzpatrick pointed out that visits to places like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, and fertility centers “can be particularly personal.” Google’s parent company Alphabet owns highly popular devices and data services. Among that list are  Android, Fitbit, Search, and Google Maps.

It’s become a concern now with the Supreme Court ruling, and there is a lot of uncertainty on whether sensitive data could be used to target what is now potentially criminal activity.

Google’s post says, “Fitbit users who have chosen to track their menstrual cycles in the app can currently delete menstruation logs one at a time, and we will be rolling out updates that let users delete multiple logs at once.”

The decision from the Supreme Court overturned nearly 50 years of legal precedent that gave women the Constitutional right to an abortion. Google and other tech companies have avoided answering questions stemming from the media and legislators on whether their data storage and practices will comply with potential law enforcement requests and, if not, how.

Google sent an email to employees with resources for its employees amid the ruling. The company has faced questions about its search results in addition to data privacy.

Before the ruling, lawmakers called out the giant tech company and the Federal Trade Commission to see that data for online consumers seeking care would be protected if the landmark ruling was overturned, CNBC News reported.

In May, 42 Democratic lawmakers requested that Google CEO Sundar Pichai stop collecting and storing unnecessary or non-aggregated location data that could be used to identify people seeking procedures.

Google’s announcement didn’t say how it would respond to potential requests from law enforcement. However, the company said it would “continue to oppose demands that are overly broad or otherwise legally objectionable.”

“Given that these issues apply to healthcare providers, telecommunications companies, banks, tech platforms, and many more, we know privacy protections cannot be solely up to individual companies or states acting individually,” the post said.

A 30-Year-Old Woman Was Arrested At Diddy’s BET After-Party For Allegedly Flashing A Gun At Party-Goers

A woman was arrested at Diddy’s BET after-party for allegedly waving a gun at other attendees.

According to LAPD, the 30-year-old woman was sitting in her car at a security checkpoint near the mogul’s house. Things took a turn when the woman got upset that cars weren’t moving out of her way.

The woman then pulled out a gun and waved it at the people she believed to be causing the traffic.

The authorities were called immediately after, but Diddy’s security team had already detained the woman. The police searched the woman’s vehicle and discovered a loaded handgun.

Sources at the party says the woman was not invited to the event, and thankfully, she did not make it inside the home. The woman attempted to make her way past the first security checkpoint when the incident occurred.

Ultimately, the woman was taken into custody and booked for possession of a loaded firearm. She was later released on her own recognizance.
