The Daily Buzz For Nov 22 ☕📰☕

RuPaul for Vanity Fair Dec 2019!
RuPaul is on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s Holiday 2019 issue, out on newsstands on December 3.

Here’s what the RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar had to say…

On his past struggle with substance abuse, and focus on self-care: “It’s difficult for me to stay up past nine o’clock. My indulgence, honestly, is taking time with myself. I go hiking, around 6:30 in the morning. I meditate…I drank and smoked so much weed because I wanted my world view to change. The truth is a very powerful thing. The truth of what’s really going on. I wanted to shut that out. Once I stopped doing that, the work became how to process the truth. The truth of what this world is, the truth of what people are. And how far we have come in civilization. Which, by the way, is not very far. We are a very primitive people. And for people who are sweet, sensitive souls, it becomes kind of torture.”
On why drag will never be mainstream: “A superficial aspect of drag is mainstream. Like, the ‘Ooh, girl’ or ‘Hey girlfriend!’ or ‘Yaaas.’ That’s mainstream culture. But true drag really will never be mainstream. Because true drag has to do with seeing that this world is an illusion, and that everything that you say you are and everything it says that you are on your driver’s license, it’s all an illusion. Most people will never in their lives understand what that is. Because they don’t have the operating system to understand that duality.”

On his controversial statement that Drag Race would probably not cast trans women: “Yeah, I don’t want to talk about that. It’s a lose-lose situation. There’s not one thing I can say that will make people feel better about it. I know what I am. I come from a place of love. I’m not here to make people feel bad.”

#RHOA: NeNe Leakes Says She's 'Not the Same NeNe' After Husband's Cancer Battle: 'I've Been Petty'!
NeNe Leakes finally made her first appearance in season 12 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Sunday — though the reality star was in a much better space than she was when viewers last saw her.
“I am definitely not the same NeNe as I was last year,” NeNe, 51, said in the episode.
Much of that had to do with the fact that NeNe’s husband, Gregg Leakes, was finally cancer-free after a grueling battle with stage 3 colon cancer that nearly ended their marriage.
“Before Gregg got diagnosed with cancer, we were already in a tough place,” NeNe recalled. “It was probably the worst thing we’ve been through.”

NeNe had struggled in the caretaker role, as documented on RHOA‘s 11th season. “I’m just not good. I’m not good at fluffing the pillow; I’m good at buying the pillow,” she told PEOPLE at the time.
She also said his illness had caused strain in their marriage. “He’s changed as a person, his attitude changed,” NeNe said. “I feel like that day, I lost my husband. Our whole dynamic changed. Sometimes I forget that he’s sick and I need to remind myself because he’s so on the edge. He’s not nice, but he can’t help it.”
NeNe and Gregg Leakes
Now, though, it seems all is on the mend.

On Sunday’s RHOA, NeNe said that her relationship with Gregg was “healing from the cancer journey.”
Also hopefully on the mend? Her friendships with some of her RHOA costars.
“I’ve been working with a spiritual advisor,” NeNe said. “She helps me with not just my personal relationship with my husband, but with my girlfriends, how to move forward.”

Moving forward wouldn’t be easy for NeNe and former best friend Cynthia Bailey. The two had a massive falling out after Bailey invited rival Kenya Moore to the season 11 finale party — a move NeNe insists was meant to be deceitful.
“Cynthia and I’s falling out is very different than me having any falling out [with] any other girl in this group because we were very close,” NeNe said on Sunday. “So my fear is our friendship will never be the same.”
Gregg’s advice? “Own up to what your involvement was,” he said. “Own up to that.”

NeNe agreed. “I know I’ve been petty,” she said. “I’m in a different head space now.”
Unfortunately, RHOA viewers on Sunday didn’t get to see any sort of reconciliation between NeNe and Bailey, 52. The two came face-to-face for the first time at the end of the episode, but the moment was cut off.
However, since filming ended, both have told PEOPLE that they’re currently cordial, though not nearly as close as they once were.
“We’ve had too long of a relationship to actually be in the same space and not speak,” NeNe said earlier this month. “I think that would be very immature of us, considering we thought of each other as sisters. I think that we both just — we’re grown enough to know that we can speak in a situation.”

“We will always be in the same circle, we just won’t be what we were, which was, we talked on the phone every day, all day. We hung out — that will never, ever happen again. Not on my watch, at least,” she added. “It just won’t ever be that way again.”
Bailey said something similar during an appearance on PeopleTV’s Reality Check last week. “My relationship is what is it,” she said.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays (8 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

#Empire: Jussie Smollett Says He Was Maliciously Prosecuted in Counterclaim Against City!
Former “Empire” star Jussie Smollett has filed a federal counterclaim against the city of Chicago, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson and several others claiming he owes the city no more money and was maliciously prosecuted for the alleged hoax attack police say he orchestrated on himself.
The actor’s accusations come in a 49-page response to a previous federal lawsuit filed against him by the city seeking $130,000 in reimbursement to cover the overtime costs the Chicago Police Department spent investigating Smollett’s claims.
But Smollett’s attorneys claim the city is not entitled to any further payment because their client forfeited his $10,000 bond after the criminal charges filed against him were dismissed.

“Having agreed to accept $10,000 from Mr. Smollett as payment in full in connection with the dismissal of the charges against him, the City cannot seek additional recovery from Mr. Smollett under the doctrine of accord and satisfaction,” Smollett’s attorney William Quinlan wrote in the counterclaim filed Tuesday.
Smollett also claims police investigators “disregarded or ignored” key evidence while relying on “self-serving and unreliable” statements from brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo in crafting the criminal charges against him.

On top of the city and Johnson, the counterclaim also named CPD Detective Michael Theis, Detective Commander Edward Wodnicki, 10 John and Jane Doe defendants as well as the Osundairos.
In March, Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report after claiming to police he’d been the victim of a racist and homophobic attack near his apartment in Streeterville.
Chicago police detectives spent weeks investigating those claims, but eventually determined Smollett had paid the Osundairo brothers $3,500 to carry out the “attack” on him in an effort to boost his public profile.

The brothers testified before a grand jury days before Smollett was arrested.
Even so, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office opted to dismiss the charges just weeks after they were filed in a bombshell move that’s resulted in ongoing repercussions.
Smollett has maintained his innocence. He now claims Johnson and Wodnicki “knowingly made false statements” to prosecutors and the public and “covered up” exculpatory evidence, resulting in the allegedly malicious prosecution.

“In the face of mounting public pressure to solve the high-profile attack on Mr. Smollett,” Quinlan wrote, “Counterclaim-Defendant Johnson authorized the CPD, including Counterclaim-Defendants Wodnicki, Theis, and John and Jane Doe Defendants, to file a criminal complaint against Mr. Smollett on the basis of false and unreliable evidence from the Osundairo Brothers.”
The counterclaim criticizes police department leaks of “false and misleading” information to media during its investigation, claiming this turned the public against Smollett.
Quinlan in his response attempts to pick apart the city’s narrative as contained in its initial complaint filed in April. He admits Smollett had been in contact with the Osundairo brothers in the days before the incident, but claims they never discussed any hoax attack.

For instance, Smollett texted Abimbola Osundairo saying he “might need your help on the low,” a statement investigators believed was related to the attack. Quinlan instead claims his client was interested in “obtaining herbal steroids,” which he believed the brothers could procure for him during an upcoming trip to Nigeria.
He denies that Smollett drove the brothers to the site of the attack days in advance for a run through and claimed the $3,500 check Smollett gave the brothers was for a five-week personal training program.

Quinlan also claims that as a result of this case, Smollett “suffered and continues to suffer substantial economic damages as well as reputational harm, humiliation, mental anguish and extreme emotional distress.”

#NewMusic from Usher and Ella Mai ‘Don’t Waste My Time’!
After lending his soulful vocals to Summer Walker’s “Come Thru,” which draws inspiration from his own hit song, “You Make Me Wanna,” living R&B legend Usher returns with another heartfelt duet.
This time around, Usher teams with breakout R&B sensation Ella Mai for “Don’t Waste My Time,” which samples Hi-Five’s 90’s classic, “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game).”

#HipHopNews: Tory Lanez Says Rap Is In A ‘Horrible Place’!
While promoting his R&B album Chixtape 5 on Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning,” the Toronto native weighed in on the status of hip-hop today.
“You gotta look at rap right now. Rap is in a horrible place,” said Tory before explaining his reasoning.

“I just feel like rap has gotten to a repetitive place. There’s this one sound right now that sounds like it’s out of an automated box and it’s like, let’s go on it, put a bunch of Auto-Tune on it, hood ni**a beat, hood ni**a song, it’s good to go.”
He thinks the sound has become too monotonous. “When everybody starts to sound the same, and I keep hearing the same drum, the same kick, the same snare, the same hi-hats, and the same patterns, it gets to a point where I start saying, ‘Yo, this shit’s in a bad place right now.'”

He also gave credit to Young Thug for inspiring the new generation of MCs. “I think Thugger is responsible for 75 percent of the rap style that’s going on right now,” he said. “And I don’t think that we shed enough light on Thugger for that. There’s a lot of copying of Thugger.”
Grammy-nominated Roddy Ricch is among those who’ve been influenced by Thug’s sound, according to Lanez. “There’s a heavy influence of Thugger’s style in Roddy Ricch’s music,” he said, “but at the end of the day, he takes his own inflections and makes his music what it is.”

Tory has turned his attention to R&B with Chixtape 5, which features collaborations with Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, and Ashanti. The fifth installment in his throwback series is expected to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 80-85,000 equivalent album units

Chris Brown Confirms Birth of Son With Girlfriend Ammika Harris!
Chris Brown is officially a daddy … again! The singer just confirmed that his girlfriend Ammika Harris has given birth to their first child together, a baby boy, with an Instagram photo of him seemingly looking at a newborn baby in a crib.

He captioned the photo: “11-20-2019” alluding to a significant date … a “birth” date, perhaps?
As previously reported, Ammika Harris checked into Tarzana Hospital in Tarzana, California Wednesday night (Nov. 20) to prepare for the baby’s birth with Brown by her side the entire time.
While this is Ammika and Chris’ first child together, this makes baby number two for Chris, who’s already a dad to 5-year-old Royalty Brown, the daughter he shares with Nia Guzman.
Ammika’s pregnancy has been speculated for months. The news was first revealed back in May after Chris commented “BM BAD” on one of her photos. (FYI: “BM” means “Baby Mama.”)

Regarding Chris and Ammika’s relationship status, sources close to the couple tell us they are currently together and trying to make it work for their newborn son.

Brad Pitt Is Not Dating ‘Arrested Development’ Actress Alia Shawkat: ‘They Are Just Friends’!
Nothing to see here. Brad Pitt and Alia Shawkat are not dating, a source tells outlets
Reports surfaced earlier this month that the 55-year-old Ad Astra star and the 30-year-old Arrested Development actress were seeing each other after they were spotted at the L.A. on Fire art exhibition in Los Angeles. Pitt, however, is still single, per the source.

Pitt hasn’t been in a serious relationship since calling it quits with ex-wife Angelina Jolie in September 2016. The pair, who wed in August 2014 after nearly 12 years together, share six kids: Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Rihanna Shares Sexy Bikini Pics From Her Late Night Swim!
No one rocks a bikini quite like Rihanna. On Wednesday (November 20) the singer turned business mogul shared an Instagram series of photos that showed her wearing a slinky black-and-green string bikini during what appeared to be a late-night swim. The IG post, which was meant to tease fans about her latest Fenty sunglasses launch, also showed Rih sporting a pair of the Fenty tortoiseshell shades, some designer heels, and Prada's "Frankenstein" printed button-down.
Rihanna captioned the Instagram series of tropical photos, "#trouble on FENTY.com," referring to the sunglasses name. The shades are now available on the Fenty site, coming in four different colors and retailing for $250.
Rihanna's sharing of the sexy pics comes shortly after she hinted that she was taking some much needed and well-deserved "me" time.

Last week, the 31-year-old singer and business mogul opened up about her "overwhelming" year, admitting that she's struggled to balance her very busy life. "to all my friends/family/coworkers who I have yet to get back to in the past months...please forgive me," she captioned a gorgeous selfie of herself wearing a white t-shirt with the words "Art School Dropout" on the front. "this year has been quite an overwhelming one, and I’m working on that ish called Balance. brb."
While Rih Rih didn't explicitly say that she's taking a break, from the tone of her message and her last sentiment, "brb" (be right back), it would seem that she's stepping away for a bit, which, in truth, has been a long time coming.

#DEMDEBATE: Democratic candidates traded barbs and attacks but agreed Trump should be impeached!
WASHINGTON -- Democrats clashed over taxes, health care and the direction of the party during a fast-paced debate in Atlanta on Wednesday, but the candidates agreed on the need to impeach President Donald Trump.
Airing after an hours-long public impeachment inquiry hearing on Capitol Hill, the candidates were immediately asked about the president and the bombshell testimony from Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, that Trump had created a “quid pro quo” scenario with Ukraine.

“We have a criminal in the White House,” Kalama Harris said.
“The president felt free to break the law again and again and again and that is what has happened with Ukraine,” Elizabeth Warren argued. “We have to establish the principle (that) no one is above the law.”
Trump has always cast a long shadow over the debates, but it was particularly true Wednesday as Americans continued to process hours of lengthy testimony delving into the ins and outs of Trump’s Ukraine scandal. That rub was clearly on display as the candidates attempted to break through wall-to-wall impeachment hearings coverage to elevate their own proposals.

“We cannot simply be consumed by Donald Trump because if we are, you know what? We're going to lose the election,” Bernie Sanders said.
A Biden moment:Biden said you have to 'keep punching' to address domestic violence
Is Tulsi a Democrat?:Gabbard prompts a brawl with Kamala Harris

The debate came during what is potentially a reshuffling of the field, as Pete Buttigieg has surged in Iowa polling and the candidates have confronted the possibility of new challengers. Deval Patrick, the former Massachusetts governor, is in the race but was not on stage. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is considering a bid and is ready to spend millions.
The debate was the first since Buttigieg has zoomed ahead in polling, but there was little sign initially that his higher status put a target on his back. There were few direct attacks on him during the first hour, and, at one point, Harris declined an opportunity to weigh into a controversy involving a stock image of a Kenyan woman on his website promoting a plan to address racial inequality.
That changed as the debate neared its conclusion as Tulsi Gabbard and Amy Klobuchar questioned his experience for the job.

Buttigieg, whose rise has reportedly unnerved his more experienced rivals, was asked why Democrats should take a risk on someone who has only been elected to a small city.
Buttigieg said that South Bend, Ind., might not look big to people in Washington. But, he added, “where we live, the infighting on Capitol Hill looks small.”
On taxes, Warren began by touting her two-cent on the dollar tax on assets over $50 million.
"I’m tired of freeloading billionaires," Warren said.

Booker criticized the plan, calling it "cumbersome.”
Health care, an issue that has divided the field, was once again an early debate topic. Sanders and Warren defended their “Medicare for All” system while Buttigieg and Biden argued people shouldn’t be forced onto one government-run plan.
“The vast majority of Democrats don’t support Medicare for All,” Biden said, asserting that it couldn’t pass the Democrat-controlled House. The next debate will take place Dec. 19 in Los Angeles.

Another Biden gaffe
Biden touted his support from African Americans, one of the reasons he’s leading the field in South Carolina while lagging behind the other frontrunners in Iowa and New Hampshire.
“I have more people supporting me in the black community,” Biden said, adding that he was endorsed by the only African-American woman that has ever been elected to the Senate.

“That’s not true,” both Booker and Harris interjected. “The other one is here,” Harris said of herself.
Biden was likely referring to Carol Moseley Braun, the first African American woman elected to the Senate. The Illinois woman served a single term in the Senate during the 1990s. As the stage erupted, Biden corrected himself to say the “first” African American woman

IN #WTH NEWS?: Hollywood exec suggested Julia Roberts play Harriet Tubman, biopic screenwriter says!
A Hollywood executive wanted Julia Roberts to portray Harriet Tubman in the leading abolitionist's biopic, the screenwriter of the new film “Harriet” said.
After studying Tubman’s life in college, about how she helped lead enslaved people to freedom on the Underground Railroad, screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard was determined to adapt her story into a feature film, he said in an interview with Focus Features, the distributor of “Harriet.”

When he met with a studio president about the idea in 1994, his script garnered praise, Howard wrote in an essay in the Los Angeles Times. It also received a casting suggestion.
“Let’s get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman,” the executive told Howard.
Howard said the one other black person in the meeting said that would be impossible, as Julia Roberts is white.

The president replied, “That was so long ago. No one will know that,” Howard wrote.
It took 25 more years for Howard to get “Harriet," which he also helped produce, to theaters. The film was released in the United States in November, and stars Cynthia Erivo, who is black, as Tubman, in a performance that has garnered Oscar buzz.
Howard, who did not immediately return a request to comment, said the climate has changed in Hollywood since he went to that meeting in the '90s.

“When 12 Years a Slave became a hit and did a couple hundred million dollars worldwide, I told my agent, ‘You can't say this kind of story won’t make money now.’” he told Focus Features. “Then Black Panther really blew the doors open.”

Roberts declined to comment on the casting suggestion.

Charles Barkley Apologizes To Reporter After Joking That He’d Hit Her If She Were A Man!
Charles Barkley is apologizing after he told a female reporter that he would hit her if she were a male.
This Wednesday, Turner Sports released a statement, which included an apology from the former NBA star who called his comment “inappropriate and unacceptable.”
Axios reporter Alexi McCammond tweeted Barkley’s comment Tuesday night from Atlanta, where she was covering the Democratic presidential debate.

”Just FYI Charles Barkley told me tonight, “I don’t hit women, but if I did, I would hit you,” and then when I objected to that, he told me I “couldn’t take a joke.”
In another tweet, McCammond broke down how their conversation went. “It was all because [Barkley] came in talking about how he loves Deval Patrick, and once someone from [Pete Buttigieg’s] campaign came around, he said he loved Pete, and I reminded him he previously said he was a Deval fan,” she wrote.
On Wednesday, Barkley said in the statement that “It was an attempted joke that wasn’t funny at all,” Barkley stated. “There’s no excuse for it, and I apologize.”
McCammond went on to tweet, “The comments Charles Barkley made to me are not acceptable. Threats of violence are not a joke, & no person deserves to be hit or threatened like that. Silence only allows the culture of misogyny to fester. And those kinds of comments don’t merit off-the-record protections.”

Dame Dash Was Arrested For Child Support, Paid Tab And Is Now Free!
Damon “Dame” Dash paid off all his child support. Unfortunately, he was arrested in the process, but was able to walk free once the bills were cleared the same day.
According to TMZ, the Roc-a-fella founder hit up a Manhattan courthouse to pay one of the two child support bills that have been hanging over his head. Since he was so delinquent, he had a pair of arrest warrants with his name on them.

After paying up in Manhattan, Dame was arrested as he left the courthouse, despite his intent to pay the 2nd child support bill right away. He was arrested and process, but then reportedly escorted to the Bronx where he needed to pay up. Dame reportedly pay another million in the BX, and his child support payments are now up to date, we hope.
Dame told TMZ the cops were kind and cooperative.

Now he can hustle, legally, in NYC without having to worry about getting pinched. Considering he reportedly isn’t generating steady income to the point he couldn’t pay a separate $2400 debt, it’s a blessing. Back in April, Dash opened Dame Dash Studios at DDS33 in Burbank, CA

Eddie Murphy will receive the Career Achievement Award as a tribute to his extraordinary roles over the years. Recognized most recently for his brilliant portrayal of the legendary Rudy Ray Moore in Netflix’s “Dolemite Is My Name.”
