The Daily Buzz For Nov 19 ☕πŸ“°☕

Regina King Looks FAB for S/ Magazine - Winter 2020!
Regina King looks glamorous on the cover of S/magazine‘s Winter 2020 issue, on newsstands November 12th. Here’s what the 48-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On selecting movie roles: “I’m looking for great story telling where it feels honest. Even if it’s comedy, it’s rooted in truth. That’s simply what I’m looking for. It just happened that the projects that spoke to me the loudest were ones that are really steeped in social commentary and experiences, and that are reflective of the world that we’re in.”

On her role as Sister Knight on Watchmen: “I feel like Angela kind of represents all of us in a lot of regards. One of the things I feel like makes her truly a window or mirror is that, in real life, we’re wearing different masks all the time. We all kind of navigate through life [like that]…I feel like I’ve never seen a woman like her on TV. And because of that, I felt like I had this special opportunity to create someone. That was just super exciting for me.”

On her Oscar-winning role in If Beale Street Could Talk: “It’s so hard to put it in just the moment, because it was such a journey from the first time I had a conversation with Barry. Throughout the entire process, I’ve had several moments of pinching myself…It was a year-and-a-half of a moment for me. The actual moment of winning might have been a moment of exhaling.”

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes is throwing shade to the rest of the cast ahead of her return to the reality show.
Over the weekend, NeNe took to social media to hype her first appearance on “RHOA” this season. She was not featured in the first two episodes of the show.

NeNe told her fans now that the “pre-show has ended. The REAL PREMIERE starts SUNDAY”, saying the first episodes without her were just an appetizer not the main course.
She even got personal about the struggles of dealing with her husband Gregg’s cancer battle.

#Empire: Taraji P. Henson Knows She Can't Please Everyone: "As Long I'm Happy...I'm Good"!
Whether it’s adopting a vegan diet, going to therapy or ignoring the naysayers, Taraji P. Henson is all about self-care these days.
After a “really bad” health scare with gastritis, Henson completely overhauled her diet. “I had to really watch what I was eating,” she told Parade.com recently.
She said bad habits like drinking coffee or taking ibuprofen on an empty stomach for years “ruined” her gut flora.

“So I had to repair it. And as I was repairing my gut flora—drinking a lot of bone marrow just to get the lining of my stomach healthy—I started reading and following a lot of doctors recommending plant-based diets and I was like, ‘Wow, this sounds great.’ So I did it for about a year and then I started missing chocolate and seafood,” she revealed during an event for Kinder Bueno before describing the Kinder cocktail she planned on making for the holidays: “I make a roasted hazelnut milk and I’m going to do a smoothie and I’m going to put this Kinder Bueno bar in it. I am going to make it like a holiday drink during the holidays, with maybe cinnamon and nutmeg to give it that taste. And brandy, I can’t wait.”

But it’s not just her gut health she actively tends to. Henson has been vocal about her own mental health struggles since 2018, when she founded The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in honor of her father, who suffered from mental health challenges as a result of his tour of duty in the Vietnam War.
She believes that sharing her own struggle with depression would be a way to utilize her platform to eradicate the stigma around mental health for those like her. But not only has she aided others in their mental health journey, opening up has helped her, too.

“I feel freer,” Henson said when asked how her life has changed since sharing this personal part of her with the public. “I feel like this dark secret is not haunting me anymore. And when you do that, you notice you’re not alone. So it makes it easier to talk about.”
She’s a major advocate for seeking help, whether it’s from a friend or a professional. Henson did both—she turned to a famous friend to find a therapist.

“You know, thanks to my dear friend Gabourey Sidibe, she helped me find the amazing therapist that I go to,” she shared.
For the Empire star, finding a therapist is “the trick” to starting your self-care journey: “Finding someone that you feel comfortable with, that gets you. My therapist, I didn’t know this woman, but she feels like my best friend. I feel like I’ve known her forever. She’s really good. And it’s about finding that person.”
But it’s a lot easier said than done for some people, and Henson knows that. “I think that’s what’s so daunting, especially for black people, because if somebody mentions therapy to us, we don’t envision a therapist that looks like us, that’s not the norm. We have to change that,” she said.

Henson is trying to do just that with not only her organization, but her work on-camera. Her character on Empire, Cookie, is now in therapy, and that could have just as much of an impact as Henson revealing that she goes to therapy.

“I think Cookie going to therapy is going to set a lot of people free because she’s deemed a strong black woman. But she’s not invincible. When you’re human, you go through things, I don’t care what color you are. It’s not OK to be strong all the time,” she said. “And so I think it’s really good that Cookie is going to therapy, especially because she goes reluctantly. She has an outburst at her job and they make it so that she has to go. But like, she goes begrudgingly and then she finds out that it’s actually really good for her. And she’s learning a lot about herself and it’s actually helping her with this, this pull that Lucious has had on her for so many years.”

She believes Cookie is finally facing her trauma head on. “We’re all traumatized,” she shared. “And we don’t even know. And when you go through trauma and you don’t address it, you learn to cope. And some of those coping mechanisms are not healthy. They’re numbing.”
Unfortunately, it took Cookie six seasons to get to this point, but we’re just happy she got there at all, and so is Henson. With the hit FOX series in its final season, this is part of the legacy Henson thinks Cookie will leave behind.
“I think her legacy is going to be, own who you are, own your past or whatever bumps in the road you may have had in your life, just own it because no one can use that against you,” she said. “She’s a voice. She’s the voice that people wish they could be.”

She said when Empire first burst onto the scene, men would tweet her saying things like, “I wish I had the balls to bust through this meeting today like Cookie.”
“But that’s because she knows who she is. She owns it,” she said. “You can’t use her past against her. She beat you to the punch.”
Henson seems to live by a similar mantra—she won’t let anyone’s judgments get the best of her. While she’s determined to use her platform for good, one of the unfortunate aspects of fame is inescapable gossip.

“I’m not gonna sit here and say that doesn’t bother me, especially when it’s a lie, when it’s just not the truth,” she said of being gossiped about. “But people are gonna believe what they want to believe. So once you surrender to that, there’s nothing really you can do but to continue to be who you are and know that the real ones know. And I really don’t care about the people that gossip. Because they don’t really know me anyway. They’re going to gossip anyway. I could be living my life like Jesus Christ, and they still gonna have something to say.”

She lives by the motto, “you can’t please everybody.”
“And I’m not trying to. As long I’m happy and God is happy with what I’m doing, I’m good,”

Michael Jackson Accusers Featured In “Leaving Neverland” To Continue Sexual Abuse Charges Against His Estate!
The men who starred in the controversial “Leaving Neverland” documentary on HBO earlier this year are now planning to take legal action against Michael Jackson’s estate.
Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who told documentary host Oprah Winfrey that Michael Jackson sexually assaulted them when they were boys, are taking things a step further. After their sexual abuse lawsuits were dismissed in 2017, partially because of statute of limitation laws, they appealed and the cases have been in an appellate court since then.

Now, the California Court of Appeal reversed the previous dismissals thanks to a new law in the state that lengthens the statute of limitations when it comes to child abuse cases like Wade Robson’s and James Safechuck’s.

The reversal is temporary for now, and both sides are scheduled to make their verbal arguments this week. The judges could potentially not want to reverse the dismissal, but only time will tell.

Wade Robson has since posted a cryptic message on his Instagram page.
Interestingly enough, he also spoke out after comedian Dave Chappelle laughed off his accusations against Jackson on his newest Netflix special Sticks and Stones. Chappelle said,
“If somebody come up to me like, ‘Dave, Dave, Chris Brown just beat up Rihanna!’ I’d be like, ‘Well, what did she do?’ ‘Dave! Michael Jackson was molesting children!’ Well, what were those kids wearing at the time?’”

He added, “But you know what, even if he did do it … it’s Michael Jackson. I know more than half the people in this room have been molested in their lives. But it wasn’t no Michael Jackson, was it?”

See Robson’s response below.
Either way, it looks like Wade Robson and James Safechuck will get their day in court.

Do you think Wade Robson and James Safechuck should be able to move forward with their lawsuit?

Kanye Refers To Himself As The Greatest Artist That God Has Ever Created!
Kanye West is making headlines, after bringing his popular ‘Sunday Service’ to Joel Osteen’s mega church Lakewood Church in Houston, Nov. 17th. During the morning service, Kanye spoke to the congregation with his wife Kim Kardashian and daughter North West, in the audience.
At one point in the service, the 42-year-old artist refers to himself as the greatest artist God has ever created. He tells the congregation,
“Because every time I stand up, I feel that I’m standing up and drawing a line in the sand and saying, ‘I’m here in service to God and no weapon formed against me shall prosper’. Jesus has won the victory. I told you about my arrogance and cockiness already. Now the greatest artist that God has ever created is now working for him.”

During another part of his speech, he says,“God has been calling me for a long time. The devil has been distracting me for a long time.”

In the evening, Kanye brought his choir back to Lakewood for their traditional “Sunday Service”, where the choir sings a medley of gospel songs and some of Kanye’s hits.

Naomi Campbell Refused Big Money to Do All-black Show because she wants to promote "balanced inclusion"!
Supermodel Naomi Campbell says she refused a "ton of money" to be part of an "all-black show" because she wants to promote "balanced inclusion" in the fashion industry.
In an interview to theguardian.com, Campbell said: "I feel a difference on many levels now -- but someone I know recently called it a ‘cult'."
"It wasn't that way when you had everything, was it? You wouldn't say that when you were getting everything handed on a plate, and things were coming your way constantly," she added.

The supermodel continued: "I'm the kind of person where, with my friends -- and I take that word very seriously -- I'm happy for what they get. So to hear this called a ‘cult', that was like, ‘Wait a second: so you want me to feel bad now that things are turning the other way?' We just want balance, end of story. I won't do an all-black show, for instance, because it would be hypocritical given what I've stood for, for so long."

What do you stand for? "Balanced inclusion," said Campbell, adding that she was offered "tons of money" to do an exclusively black show recently, but turned it down.
"I can see clearly when brands want diversity because they get it and think it's the right thing to do - and the ones who just think it will look bad if they don't."
Is it right to say that she campaigns more for diversity now because she is more comfortable in her skin?

"It's not that I feel comfortable. I don't think I've been speaking about it more -- I think I've just been doing more. Everybody knows Africa is not new to me and I've been working on projects there since 1994," she said.

#BoxOfficeNews: ‘Ford v Ferrari’ Races to First Place, ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Falls to 2nd!
“Ford v Ferrari” left its box office competitors in the dust as the historical sports drama from Disney and 20th Century Fox sped its way to $31 million in North America.

Directed by James Mangold and starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, “Ford v Ferrari” debuted ahead of expectations thanks to strong word-of-mouth from moviegoers. However, those promising ticket sales weren’t enough to offset disappointing starts from fellow high-profile newcomers, “Charlie’s Angels” and “The Good Liar,” pushing the domestic box office down over 6% from last year, according to Comscore.
Sony’s action comedy “Charlie’s Angels” sputtered out of the gate with an uninspiring $8.6 million from 3,452 venues, landing in third place between Lionsgate’s war drama “Midway” ($8.75 million) and Paramount’s family film “Playing With Fire” ($8.5 million). Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ thriller “The Good Liar” narrowly cracked the top 10, finishing in eighth place with $5.6 million from 2,439 theaters.

“Ford v Ferrari” secured a rare A+ CinemaScore, the highest marks among new nationwide offerings. That kind of praise from ticket buyers indicates the racing drama should have a long life in theaters, a good sign considering the Chernin Entertainment-produced movie carries a $100 million price tag. “Ford v Ferrari” enticed a mostly older male crowd: Men accounted for 62% of ticket buyers, while nearly 80% were over the age of 25.

“We knew it was a real crowd pleaser,” said Cathleen Taff, Disney’s president of global distribution. “With the caliber of talent from director James Mangold and Christian Bale and Matt Damon, it felt like a must-see movie. We’re thrilled to see it breaking out.”
International moviegoers, as well as potential Oscar buzz, should also help drive the film toward profitability. “Ford v Ferrari” launched overseas this weekend with $21 million, pushing its global tally to $52.4 million. If it’s able to sustain momentum, “Ford v Ferrari” looks to be a major victory for Fox under its new owners at Disney, as well as the first commercial success since the studios merged earlier this year.

It was undoubtably a busy weekend for the company given the debut of Disney Plus, the studio’s newly launched streaming service. But Taff notes that Disney is “still committed to the big screen in every way,” adding that the success of “Ford v Ferrari” demonstrates “there’s an appetite for great original dramas on the big screen.”
“Ford v Ferrari” tells the true story of the automotive team at Ford, led by designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and his British driver Ken Miles (Bale), as they build a race car attempting to beat the legendary Ferrari in the prestigious Le Mans race.

“Charlie’s Angels,” however, wasn’t able to entice its core audience of younger females and arrived well behind domestic box office projections (the studio was anticipating a start closer to $13 million). Though co-financing partners will help offset any potential losses for Sony, “Charlie’s Angels” will now rely on overseas audiences to help recoup its $48 million production budget. At the international box office, the film bowed with $19 million.
Despite mostly positive reviews and a B+ CinemaScore, analysts note that “Charlie’s Angels,” joining the likes of recent underperforming blockbuster-hopefuls like “Doctor Sleep” and “Terminator: Dark Fate,” is yet another indication that familiar IP doesn’t always translate into commercial appeal.

Elizabeth Banks wrote and directed “Charlie’s Angels” — starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska — the third big-screen adaptation of the classic action series. The newest chapter sees the Angels going global to halt the spread of a dangerous new technology that could threaten the world. Banks portrays one of the many Bosleys, while Sam Claflin, Patrick Stewart and Noah Centineo joined the cast.

“The Good Liar” also failed to be much of a draw for its target demographic, potentially competing with “Ford v Ferrari” for attention among adult audiences. Over 60% of moviegoers were above 50 years old, a group that doesn’t routinely turn up in force on opening weekend. But mediocre reviews, along with a B CinemaScore, doesn’t bode well for its future in multiplexes. Directed by Bill Condon and starring Ian McKellen as a con artist who targets a wealthy widow (Hellen Mirren), “The Good Liar” is the latest literary adaptation from Warner Bros. that hasn’t been able to fill seats in theaters. In recent weeks, “The Goldfinch,” “Motherless Brooklyn” and “Doctor Sleep” were all major misfires. “Doctor Sleep” suffered a massive 57% decline in its second weekend, pulling in $6.1 million for a domestic total of $25 million.

It’s not all bad news on the Warner Bros. lot. This weekend, “Joker” officially became the first R-rated movie in history to gross over $1 billion at the global box office. All the more impressive, it’s only the third movie ever to reach that milestone without a release in China, one of the world’s biggest moviegoing markets.

Universal’s romantic comedy “Last Christmas” rounded out the top five, generating $6.7 million for a domestic total of $22.5 million. After 10 days in theaters, “Midway” has earned $35 while “Playing With Fire” pocketed $25 million.

Other celebrity guests included Gloria Carter, DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, Robert Kraft, Normani, Swizz Beatz, Fabolous, Robin Roberts, Tyler Perry, Yo Gotti, Dapper Dan, Eddie Rosario, Michael Blackson, Tina and Richard Lawson and DJ Trauma, E! The event kicked off on Friday (November 15) with an invitation-only High Roller Blackjack Tournament that featured a $100,000 buy-in. For the exclusive casino night, Bey donned a body-hugging gold sequin gown that showed off her famous curves. She accessorized the look with an embellished clutch, dangling earrings, and strappy heels.
For night two, BeyoncΓ© went with another vintage-inspired look, wearing a strapless embellished gown that featured a thigh-high slit. The "Brown Skin Girls" singer accentuated the look with a featured faux fur wrap. As for her glam, Bey wore a bold maroon lip and light eyeshadow.

"I'm looking forward to continuing that mission at this year's Shawn Carter Foundation Gala Weekend, where we'll celebrate our scholars sand continue to support young people in a meaningful way."

Lena Waithe Marries Longtime Girlfriend Alana Mayo in Spur of the Moment Courthouse Wedding!
Lena Waithe is a married woman now. The Emmy-winning TV writer revealed that she and her longtime girlfriend, Alana Mayo, secretly got married.

She made the announcement on The Ellen DeGeneres Show with guest host John Legend (who was just named People’s Sexiest Man Alive).

“We snuck and did it, you know. We didn’t make any announcements … We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse. Got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. [It was] her idea, as all good things are. And she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there.’ And I said, ‘Cool, I’m down.'”
Waithe reflected on the significance of getting married in San Francisco and particularly in front of Milk’s bust, a late gay rights activist and politician.
“It was a humbling day, you know, to marry someone so amazing. But also to really appreciate all the work that so many people have put in for us to be able to do that,” she said. “Everybody should be able to do that.”

Waithe and Mayo have been dating for several years and became engaged on Thanksgiving Day in 2017. Mayo had never been in a same-sex relationship prior to meeting Waithe.
Mayo currently serves as the head of production and development for Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society.
The newlyweds most likely opted for a spur of the moment ceremony because they had struggled to find time to plan a wedding due to their busy schedules.

“It’s a little nutty,” Waithe told People back in 2018 of the wedding planning process. “I’m trying to balance it out, but I’m really grateful.”
Interestingly, the writer did a little foreshadowing about her wedding in the same interview.
“It’s going to be super small, crazy small,” Waithe added. “We’re anti-stress. We’re trying to make it not a stressful situation, that’s our goal.”

They definitely got their perfect wedding. We send the newlyweds many congratulations.

Lil' Kim Opens up on Why She Hated Naturi Naughton In 'Notorious'!
Lil’ Kim recently appeared on an interview with Hollywood Unlocked where she once again proclaimed her disappointment with the 2009 B.I.G. biopic, Notorious.

Her disdain is pointed to actress Naturi Naughton who portrayed the Queen Bee in the film. Naturi originally rose to fame as apart of the band, 3LW, then later for her lead role on the hit tv show, Power.
During the interview, Lil’ Kim stated that she was never a fan of Naturi playing her in the film and has always made that clear.
“I’m going to touch on this briefly ’cause I think everybody already knows my answer to this, but I hated everything about that movie. I hated it. Wasn’t involved in it. I actually had to get my lawyers involved in which I ended up getting a check from it — that was the only reason why, whatever. But it was greenlit and shot without my permission. Everybody knows this already. We talked about it.”

Kim said that her disappointment mostly was due to the fact that Naturi had nothing in common with the rapper.
“How do you even pick somebody [Naughton] — because I’m sorry. That wasn’t … I was not OK with that … I would have never picked her. Never, ever, ever. She has nothing in common with me. Nothing. We have nothing in common. No, seriously … And I don’t like the way she’s been disrespectful about it because I wasn’t even basically blaming her. But she did a whole documentary coming at me. I’m like, ‘What the heck is this?'”

Kim continued by adding that if Naturi only took the role for money then leave it at that.
“So basically, you’re doing it without my stamp of approval. So you’re doing it for a check or you’re doing it to come up. That’s fine. But don’t make it seem like I’m hating on you because I don’t want you to do it … All of that talk she did on the documentary, I felt it was very disrespectful.”
The documentary Lil’ Kim is referring to is an episode of TV One’s Uncensored. The episode debuted in April and discussed Naughton’s thoughts on Kim’s criticism.

“I would never take on a role of real person that is alive and well and not try to speak with them and reach out,” she said.
“Let’s clear the record. At the time, there was a manger who was managing Kim. I called, I left multiple voicemails …  I was at the production office in Brooklyn, Kim comes off the elevator, I happen to be there for rehearsal. Huge, beautiful fur. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, the queen is here.’ She walks right by me with her crew. She goes into the director’s office. They close the door.”
She continued by saying that the she hoped the Lil’ Kim and her manager were not fighting about her role.
“All I hear is, ‘What the f—k?!’ They’re arguing. They’re yelling and I’m like, ‘I hope this is not about me.’ But it was. I guess there was some miscommunication about the casting process. But again, I’m just an actress. I was just hired to do a part. So I was hoping and praying. I reached out via phone. I was there, that time in person.”

Naturi also added that she has nothing but respect for Lil’ Kim and has always considered her a pioneer of female rap artistry.
“To this day, I have nothing but love and respect for Lil Kim. she really is what spawned the careers of Nicki Minajs and Cardi B. They just took from that book and did it now. No disrespect to any of these artists. But please give her her just due. So for me, I have nothing but love and respect. And I hope that she knows I was honored to play her. And I hope one day she can see that and really know that.”

Naturi took to Instagram to respond with a simple caption of Biggie lyrics.

“In the words of #BiggieSmalls … “MO MONEY, MO PROBLEMS”

Vivica A. Fox Tells Issa Rae To Leave ‘Set It Off’ Alone!
Francesca “Frankie” Sutton isn’t in favor of the new “Set It Off” movie that’s being made and she let it be known.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, the character of Frankie was played by Vivica A. Fox in the 1996 classic, which also co-starred Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Kimberly Elise, with F. Gary Gray in the director’s chair.
In September, it was announced that Issa Rae would produce a reimagining of the film through her company Issa Rae Productions and possibly star in it as well. Plus, Syreeta Singleton and Nina Gloster, who’ve worked on the shows “Black Monday” and “Star” respectively, were tapped to help write the script.

Fox recently stopped by “ET Live” and was asked about Rae making another “Set It Off,” and before she even answered her facial expression showed that she wasn’t very fond of the idea. Then she explained why.
“It’s a classic, leave it alone,” said the actress. “There’s absolutely no reason to try to redo it. It’s been done, and we did it so well that people are absolutely going to compare it to that, and I think that’s her taking on a tremendous chore, because that film has become a cult classic and some things are just better left.”

“Like, create your own franchise,” Fox continued. “If you want to do a new film of girls robbing banks, create your own thing. You can make it up to date. We did that film in 1996. We are in 2019 going into 2020. So create your own thing, because people are absolutely going to compare it to it, and she’ll probably, if it’s not good, they’re going to slay her for it.”

Fox was then asked what she thought of the new trend of past films and TV shows being remade, since popular movies like “Boomerang” were reworked for the small screen and there are plans to remake 1991’s “New Jack City” as well.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it if they do something that goes into the next chapter of the story,” said Fox about the trend. “It’s when they try to recreate it and it already has been done and that magic was captured in a bottle.”
Besides Fox, Pinkett Smith is another person from the 1996 heist film who said she didn’t like the idea of it being remade.
“If they decide to do an extension of it in some way, recast it in some way, I personally think that’s just something you leave alone,” she explained in September. “It’s a classic, it’s done.”
And just like many did when word first surfaced that the “Insecure” star was remaking “Set It Off,” folks blasted the idea after Fox’s interview.

“No no no I’m against a reboot of Set it OFF,” one person wrote on YouTube. “It’s a cult classic, so it shouldn’t be mess with. Issa need to create her own lane.”
“Leave set it off alone! just make a new movie with women robbing banks,” someone else suggested. “Or young women scamming in modern ways. There’s always a new scam… robbing a bank is so dated!!”
But not everyone was against the idea of a reboot.

“Everyone need a chance,” one person commented. “I want to see a remake.”

4 dead, 6 wounded in mass shooting in southeast Fresno home. No arrests, police say!
At least four men were killed and six others were wounded Sunday night in southeast Fresno when gunmen sneaked into a backyard party and opened fire on dozens of people watching football. It was the third mass shooting in California in less than a week.

In an update just before 10 p.m., Fresno police said 10 people had been shot just before 8 p.m. in the backyard of a home on the 5300 block of East Lamona Avenue near Caesar Avenue. The neighborhood of single-story homes remains cordoned off and nearby roads including Peach and Olive avenues were closed to traffic at 11 p.m.
“What we do know is that this was a gathering, a family and friend gathering in the backyard,” Lt. Bill Dooley, a spokesman for the Fresno Police Department, told reporters. “Everyone was watching football this evening when unknown suspects approached the residence, snuck into the backyard and opened fire.”

Fresno Police Deputy Chief Michael Reid said that at least 35 people were at the home when the shooting took place.
“Thank God that no kids were hurt,” he said.
Police declined to comment on a getaway vehicle.
“We’ll do everything we can to find out who the perpetrators are and bring them to justice,” Reid told reporters outside the home.
The victims were described by police as “Asian males” between 25 and 35 years old. Three died at the scene and a fourth died at Community Regional Medical Center.
Police said five others were taken to CRMC and are expected to survive. Security was tight at the Fresno hospital late Sunday as a large and steadily growing group of the victims’ family and friends gathered in crowded the lobby.
Investigators declined to provide details on the type of weapon used in the attack and also declined to comment on a motive. Police were going door-to-door in search of surveillance video that might help investigators together the incident, which occurred about a half-mile south of Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
Choua Vang said Sunday’s shooting wasn’t the first one in the neighborhood. His next door neighbor’s house was shot at last week.
“It makes me feel unsafe to be outside when the sun’s down,” he said.
Vang often works on his car in his driveway, but now he said he’s nervous to do that and even suspicious of joggers in the neighborhood. He said he worries about his family members who work graveyard shifts and come home late at night.
“We’re thinking about moving out of the neighborhood,” he said. “We don’t know how many more shootings there will be.”
Other neighbors declined to share their names but said they heard as many as 10, rapid-fire gunshots.

It was at least the second fatal gun attack Sunday in southeast Fresno. A man in his 20s was shot to death early in the day at a home in 3900 Block of East Dwight Way. Police have not said whether the incidents could be connected.
“Our prayers are with the families of the many victims of this recent senseless and criminal act in our community,” Fresno City Councilman Luis Chavez, who represents the neighborhood, said a statement late Sunday. ”This action is not a reflection of our community and our officers are working diligently to piece together the sequence of events that led up to this, but more importantly to bring all those involved to justice.”

Hours after the shooting, some neighbors lingered in driveways near the crime scene, but most residents had turned out the lights. Some neighbors waited outside the scene for up to an hour before they were allowed past crime tape.
