The Daily Buzz For July 17 ☕📰☕

Camila Cabello for Clash Magazine - Issue #112
It takes courage to be a pioneer. There were times in the last 15 years of Clash when we’d second-guess ourselves - usually when an opportunity was presented that raised excitement levels immeasurably but came with the risk of potential backlash or other consequences. The positives, however, would always outweigh the negatives, and we’d instinctively forge ahead until our apprehensions would be neutralised by the resulting impact of our best intentions.

People recognise and appreciate truth and sincerity when they see it, but it’s not always easy to maintain that sense of honour. This issue, therefore, is dedicated to those artists whose own fearlessness has developed through a necessity to turn the world upside down by fully expressing themselves.

Camila Cabello - the sixth and final cover star of issue 112 - once lived life on the outside looking in. Now, emboldened by love, bravery, and honesty, as the 22-year-old pop phenomenon prepares to drop her second album, she’s finally firmly in the present and learning to trust her emotions - and other people.
“Honestly, I think I’m just more brave,” she tells Clash. “I feel like I can be much more honest with myself and other people because obviously I’m growing up and I have a more grounded sense of who I am.”

Also featured in this issue are Juice WRLD, 070 Shake, Mahalia, Dev Hynes, Beth Ditto, These New Puritans, Lil Miquela, Conan Gray, Grace Carter, Valee, Sheryl Crow, and much more.
Clash 112 is available to buy online now ahead of its release next week - get the magazine HERE.

#RHOA: Eva Marcille VS Kenya Moore She called her A ‘Compulsive Liar’!
Eva Marcille and returning cast member Kenya Moore reportedly already had a massive fight during the filming of an upcoming episode of ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ and Eva didn’t hesitate in releasing her frustrations on her co-star.

It looks like the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Atlanta and Kenya Moore‘s return is going to be intense! The 48-year-old controversial star got into a fight with Eva Marcille, 34, while the cameras were rolling, according to a source at RadarOnline, and it proved that not everyone is happy about her return to the Bravo show. “Eva and Kenya went at it during filming,” the source explained. “Eva told Kenya she was a compulsive liar. Eva also called Kenya a manipulator. Now Kenya has it out for Eva.”

It turns out the fight is a hint about the focus of the 12th season. “Kenya and Eva fighting is going to be one of the leading stories this season on the show,” the source explained. “Kenya is the villain again and [Eva] is coming hard for her.” Although cast mates, Cynthia Bailey and Porsha Williams, have expressed support for Kenya’s return, the latest fight reflects Eva’s very different outlook.

The drama between the ladies should definitely be interesting for fans awaiting the season. Since Kenya, who started appearing on RHOA during its fifth season in 2012, took a little break from the show after season 10, her return brings high anticipation. The Tea is Kenya is thrilled to be returning to the popular series because she missed the experience and feels it’s where she belongs. “Kenya Moore is so excited to be returning to RHOA,” the source said. “She missed the show and is having a great time connecting again with all the ladies and spending more time with them. Kenya knows that she was made for reality TV and is so excited to share her life with viewers again. Kenya is keeping it real and not holding anything back at all yet again.”

The new mom is also happy about showing off her new daughter, Brooklyn, who she gave birth to in Nov. 2018.  “She can’t wait to show Brooklyn off to all the viewers,” the source said.

#Empire Is Bryshere Y. Gray Teasing Working With Chris Brown?
There is little better on Empire than when Bryshere Y. Gray performs as Hakeem, whether it’s on his own or in a duet or part of a group — but now the handsome actor has a special question for fans about a possible new collaboration.
Gray took to his Instagram account to find out what fans may think of his pairing with a particularly hot artist who has everyone talking.

“Who’s up? Drop a “️” if we should drop a track together! #Empire 🦁🔥,” he asked as fans went wild, adding those little hearts like crazy in the comments section.
That hot artist happens to be none other than Chris Brown. It certainly wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he could guest star on Empire. After all, the Fox show has had more than its share of stunt casting in pivotal guest roles on the hit show that’s about to enter its sixth and final season.
Past big names to join the Empire universe have included Courtney Love, Xzibit, Kelly Rowland, Petey Pablo, and Mariah Carey, just to name a few. Each one has made an impact and thrilled fans in the process.

Season 5 went with big guest stars too, like Joss Stone, Mario and those who weren’t joining in on the singing fun like Vivica A. Fox, Forest Whitaker, and Phylicia Rashad. There’s no reason to think that Empire won’t go even bigger for Season 6 and Chris Brown would certainly fit that bill.

So what do you say? Do you want to see Chris Brown appear on Empire during the next season to collaborate with Gray?

#MusicNews: The Brand New Heavies Announce New Album ‘TBNH’
Back in April, The Brand New Heavies gave us an unexpected treat when they released their single "Getaway." The song not only served as the group's first new material in years but also saw them reuniting with singer N'Dea Davenport (albeit temporarily). We speculated what it could mean then and now we know for a fact: The Heavies are back! The acid jazz group — which now consists of core members Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy along with a rotating cast of vocalists — are all set to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their debut album with the release of their newest effort TBNH this September. With that on the horizon, the fellas give us another listen with the release of their next single, "These Walls.""These Walls," interestingly enough, is a cover of Kendrick Lamar's song of the same title, though it definitely has the Heavies' unique spin.

They, along with producer Mark Ronson, reinterpret the track to fit more with their aesthetic, building upon the already jazzy groove and adding a few of their own embellishments like horns and a swinging rhythm shepherding. Meanwhile, N'Dea returns to the fold once again to take on the role Anna Wise served for Kendrick, though she takes a few liberties with the lyrics as she adds a few here and there to flesh out the lyrical story.N'Dea isn't the only familiar voice coming into The Brand New Heavies fold for TBNH. Other vocalists who will appear on the record, which you can pre-order now, include Siedah Garrett, Angie Stone, Beverly Knight, Honey LaRochelle, Angela Ricci and more.

Take a listen to "These Walls" HERE and Get the new project which will arrive in stores on September 6th

#HipHopNews: Young Thug Says Lil Nas X Shouldn’t Have Come Out As Gay
Young Thug is proud of the moves Lil Nas X has made, but he doesn't believe the "Old Town Road" singer should've been so open about his sexuality.

In a new No Jumper interview uploaded Sunday (July 14), Thugger offers his thoughts on Nas X's rise to the top of the Billboard charts. The YSL Records founder, who recently hopped on another remix of "Old Town Road," gave his fellow ATLien all the props for coming out as gay during Pride month. However, Thugger, who toured with J. Cole last year, did admit that he feels Nas X shouldn't have been so open about his sexuality because "Muthafuckas is just all judgemental."
“It ain’t even about the music no more," Thugger explains. "Soon as ["Old Town Road"] comes on everybody’s like, ‘This gay ass nigga.’ Niggas don’t even care to listen to the song no more."

Thugger is known for inspiring rappers to be themselves. Earlier this year, Nas X credited the Slime Language artist for leading the country trap movement.

“I believe whenever you’re trying something new, it’s always going to get some kind of bad reception. For example, when rap started, or when rock and roll began. But with country trap, I in no way want to take credit for that. I believe Young Thug would be one of the biggest pioneers in that," Lil Nas X told Time back in March.

Abel Cedeno Gay Teen who was Bullied has been found guilty of manslaughter in Bronx school stabbing
A teenager who fatally stabbed a classmate inside a school in the Bronx in 2017 was found guilty of all charges Monday.
Abel Cedeno, 19, blamed years of bullying because of his sexuality and testified on his own behalf, saying he stabbed 15-year-old Matthew McCree and 16-year-old Arane Leboy at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation after McCree punched him.

McCree died from his injuries, while Leboy was severely injured. Cedeno was convicted in the judge trial of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was remanded and will be sentenced on September 10.
"In a matter of seconds, the defendant took out his knife and stabbed two students in front of a crowded classroom, killing 15-year-old Matthew McCree and critically wounding Ariane Laboy, then 16," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said. "The incident has forever traumatized the young students and school faculty who watched in horror the violence that unfolded that morning. It is truly a tragedy; a young life was taken, and so many other lives -- including the defendant's -- are irreparably damaged."

Cedeno was repeating the 12th grade because he had missed so much school due to bullying. He was relentlessly taunted as a “faggot” and “bitch,” he had testified — in some cases, just for having long hair. He was not made aware of alternatives available to him as a gay student, such as the Harvey Milk School. Most all of the evidence of the bullying Cedeno had been subjected to and the long records of fighting and other school violence on the part of the victims that Cedeno claimed to be aware of were not admitted into evidence by the judge. The defense of “justification” or self-defense was rejected.

McCree's mother said she was grateful for the verdict.

"I got justice for my son," she told reporters.

Diddy Announces the Return of MTV’s “Making the Band”
The 2000s reality series spawned O-Town, Danity Kane, and other groups
Diddy has announced that he’s bringing back the MTV series “Making the Band,” the reality show that forms a band from scratch and follows them throughout their new musical careers. He has also revealed that he’s begun conducting the worldwide search for the next band’s members, with the show set to return in 2020. “It’s not just about America and America’s music. It’s about everybody’s voice,” Diddy said in an announcement video today. “So we’re doing a global talent search.”

“Making the Band” previously aired on MTV from 2000-2009, with Diddy handpicking the members in each group. It spawned O-Town, Danity Kane, Da Band, and Day26. In 2017, the MTV brought back another one of their previously canceled shows, “Total Request Live.”

13 Reasons Has Removed Hannah Baker suicide scene ahead of season 3
The creators of 13 Reasons Why have edited out Hannah Baker's suicide scene from season 1 of the Netflix series.
As soon as 13 Reasons Why was released in 2017, it divided viewers. Some people praised the show for addressing serious issues like teen suicide, bullying and rape, while others accused the teen drama of sensationalising these topics and being very triggering to anyone who's experienced these things. One scene in particular, which graphically depicted the lead Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) killing herself, was heavily criticised.

Now the team behind 13 Reasons Why have removed that scene from the show ahead of season 3's release date.
In a new statement, Netflix explained their decision to cut the scene. They said: "We’ve heard from many young people that 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help – often for the first time. As we prepare to launch season three later this summer, we’ve been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show."

The team then went on to reveal: "So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we’ve decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life."

If you watch season 1, episode 13 now, you simply see Clay tell Mr. Porter: "she went into the bathroom and died alone." The scene then cuts to Hannah's parents finding her dead in the bath. You no longer see the horrifying sequence in which Hannah slits her own wrists and dies.
The decision has been met with positive feedback on social media but many people are calling out Netflix for only doing this two years after the initial backlash. What's more, the show still includes graphic rape scenes (Jessica and Hannah are both raped by Bryce in season 1 and Montgomery rapes Tyler with a broom in season 2).

Amazon Workers Walk Out To Protest Working Conditions, Unequal Pay
Some Amazon employees around the world are going on strike on Amazon Prime Day, the most highly anticipated discount shopping day of the year, to protest working conditions and demand better pay, Market Watch reports.

The strike has been extended from one day to two—July 15 through July 16. At least 2,000 workers in Germany, Spain, and Poland, as well as more than 100 workers in Minnesota, are striking, organizing around the slogan, “No more discount on our incomes.”

More from Market Watch: The strike comes as Amazon, which employees more than 600,000 people globally, extended the Prime Day sale for the first time ever to two days from July 15 to July 16 and promised one-day delivery on many items. Employee advocates say that will put more physical pressure on workers to keep up with demand. … One U.S. Amazon warehouse employee in Minnesota said she’s expected to physically handle and drop off 600 items per hour while staying on her feet continuously.
“We’re humans, not robots,” William Stolz, an Amazon warehouse worker in Shakopee, Minnesota, told CNN Business. “They’re treating us like machines.”
According to CNN Business, Amazon raised starting wages to $15 an hour for all US employees last year, but workers say they are still not treated with respect; further, they say that they are subjected to dangerous conditions, unfair scheduling, and “impossible demands,” with conditions not being equitable across factories. Demonstrations are planned in New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC, in solidarity. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, have both voiced support for the Amazon Prime Day Strike.

Austin Butler is set to play Elvis Pressley in Baz Luhrmann’s Biopic
Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic has found its king of rock ‘n’ roll.
After numerous screen tests, Austin Butler has been tapped to play Elvis Presley in Luhrmann’s next feature film for Warner Bros. The studio tested with a handful of actors in full hair and make-up at the end of June to see who would join Tom Hanks, who is playing Presley’s manager, Col. Tom Parker.

“I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist,” Luhrmann said in a statement. “Throughout the casting process, it was an honor for me to encounter such a vast array of talent. I had heard about Austin Butler from his stand-out role opposite Denzel Washington in ‘The Iceman Cometh’ on Broadway, and through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”

Luhrmann also co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce. The movie covers the relationship between the veteran manager and the young singer, who came from dirt-poor origins to become an iconic star who changed the course of music. The project marks Luhrmann’s first film since his adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. He most recently worked on the Netflix series “The Get Down.”
The plan is to shoot at the top of 2020 to accommodate Hanks’ schedule, which includes the upcoming Paul Greengrass movie “News of the World,” which shoots in the fall.

Butler’s recent credits include Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy “The Dead Don’t Die.” On the small screen, he has starred on the CW’s “The Carrie Diaries,” “Switched at Birth” and “Zoey 101.”

Nipsey Hussle Under Posthumous Investigation for Gang Ties: Report
The investigation into Nipsey, his associates, and his Marathon Clothing shop began before his death and is reportedly ongoing
Officials within the Los Angeles Police Department and city attorney’s office are investigating the late Nipsey Hussle to determine whether his strip mall that housed his Marathon Clothing store was a center for gang activity, The New York Times reports.

The investigation began before Nipsey’s death, and according to the Times, the rapper’s murder emboldened investigators who were concerned that exact kind of violent act could take place on the property. The origin of the investigation is unclear. A spokesperson for the LAPD declined to comment on specifics of the investigation, but told the Times that police are actively negotiating with Nipsey’s associates on the property “to mitigate some of those crime issues.”

According to the report, city officials pressured the former owners of the strip mall to evict Nipsey and his associates. Instead, they sold the property to Nipsey and a group of investors. Marqueece Harris-Dawson, a City Council member, said he had been working for years to learn more about the investigation on Nipsey’s behalf.

Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed at his Los Angeles strip mall on March 31. Eric Holder, a 29-year-old Los Angeles man, was arrested and charged with murder.

Brody Jenner On Dad Missing His Wedding: Caitlyn 'Had Better Things To Do'
Brody Jenner got real about his father, Caitlyn Jenner, ditching his wedding.
On the (July 15) episode of The Hills: New Beginnings, Brody spoke candidly of the disappointment he feels over Caitlyn skipping missing his marriage to Kaitlynn Carter. The 35-year-old discussed the matter over a family dinner with his wife, brother Brandon, and mother Linda Thompson.

During the scene, Thompson opens with how Caitlyn’s transition impacted their relationship. “I met your dad, married your dad, had this great happy life here in Malibu until that fateful day where Bruce said to me, ‘I want to transition,’” Thompson revealed, according to Us Weekly.

“My life just did a 180. In my mind, I had lost my normal, my family, my wonderful husband that I had thought would be forever. I had lost my marriage and the father of my kids,” she continued. “I was devastated. That was just a momentary reaction. My greater sympathy had to go out to Caitlyn.”
Showing sympathy to Caitlyn has been difficult for Brody, who still hasn't forgiven his father for missing his nuptials. “Not having my dad at the wedding, it was a bummer. Honestly, it really did hurt,” Brody confessed. “I would have loved to have had her there, but she had better things to do, apparently.”

As a consolation, Thompson pled her son not to harbor that pain. “I don’t give Bruce, Caitlyn a pass for not being a father. I don’t think there’s any excuse ever to not be there for your children,” she said. “It’s not what you would ever do — to have a child and not call them on their birthday and be a parent to them. … I’m not excusing Caitlyn, I’m just saying it’s forgivable.”

“Everything in life is forgivable, and it’s not even for the other person, it’s for yourself,” she added. “You have to forgive, so it doesn’t eat away inside you.”

Giants safety Kamrin Moore suspended after domestic violence arrest
New York Giants safety Kamrin Moore has been suspended by the team after he was arrested in New Jersey on allegations he punched and stepped on the neck of a woman who said the two were dating.
The Giants said in a statement Monday that Moore, 22, was arrested over the weekend in Linden in an alleged domestic violence-related incident.

"Moore has been suspended by the team pending further investigation," the team said.
Moore's agent, Eugene Lee, said in a statement that he is confident the NFL player "will be exonerated and vindicated completely of these baseless charges," NBC Sports reported.

A criminal complaint says the woman reported the alleged assault to Linden police at 1:20 a.m. Saturday. She told police she was assaulted by Moore around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, according to the complaint.
The woman, who told police she met Moore in January and began dating him, said that on Thursday she was in New Jersey to pick up a friend and texted Moore to say she was in the neighborhood, according to the document.

When Moore didn't respond, she went to his home and another woman approached her vehicle before a fight broke out, according to the complaint. When the woman who made the complaint to police fell to the ground during the altercation, Moore put his foot on her neck, the document states.

She told police that she got up and yelled at Moore and pushed him, and then Moore punched her, causing her to lose consciousness, according to the complaint. Police said they took photos of visible injuries that included bruising.
Moore was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, according to the complaint.
Man charged after allegedly killing teen, posting photos of her body on Discord
The athlete's agent said in the statement that "while the complaint involves serious allegations, representatives for Mr. Moore are requesting that the media, social media, general public and Giants fans use extreme caution and not pass judgment upon Mr. Moore until due process has run its course."

"We remain confident that when the truth is revealed, Mr. Moore will be exonerated and vindicated completely of these baseless charges," Lee said in the statement, according to NBC Sports.
Moore's attorney, Alex Spiro, said in a statement to NBC New York that "the claimant in this matter showed up unannounced and unsolicited at Mr. Moore’s home to begin an altercation with Mr. Moore's girlfriend and invent these accusations," and that "he will be fully cleared of all charges."

Moore was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2018 in the sixth round and was claimed by the Giants off waivers. He played in two games in the 2018 season, according to the Giants' website.

Scarlett Johansson says diversity comments were 'taken out of context'

"Avengers" actress Scarlett Johansson says comments she made on "political correctness" in casting have been taken out of context and asserts that she supports diversity in film.
“An interview that was recently published has been edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context,” Johansson said in a statement over the weekend to several media outlets, referring to an article published in As If magazine. “The question I was answering in my conversation with the contemporary artist, David Salle, was about the confrontation between political correctness and art."

In the As If article, which was obtained by the United Kingdom's Daily Mail, she said actors "should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job."

"I feel like it’s a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions," she told As If. "I think society would be more connected if we just allowed others to have their own feelings and not expect everyone to feel the way we do."
Johansson came under fire in 2017 for playing an Asian character in "Ghost in the Shell" and canceled plans last year to portray a transgender man, Dante "Tex" Gill, in the upcoming film "Rub & Tug," after transgender actors and advocates questioned the casting.

"While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante's story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person," Johansson said in a statement at the time, according to Out magazine.
Building a new Internet: The bold plan to decentralize the web
In the statement she released Saturday, the actress said "in an ideal world, any actor should be able to play anybody and Art, in all forms, should be immune to political correctness."

"I recognize that in reality, there is a widespread discrepancy amongst my industry that favors Caucasian, cisgender actors and that not every actor has been given the same opportunities that I have been privileged to," she added.

The Indiana Police Officer Who Fatally Shot Black Man In South Bend Indiana Has Resigned!
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A white Indiana police officer who fatally shot a black man, sparking protests and roiling the presidential campaign of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, has resigned, the local police union announced Monday.
The Fraternal Order of Police said Sgt. Ryan O'Neill's resignation from the South Bend Police Department was due to stress and media attention given to last month's shooting of Eric Logan. The union also pointed to "hateful things said on social media."

"Sgt. O'Neill did his job and was forced to defend his own life from a convicted felon who was armed with an eight-inch hunting knife," FOP president Harvey Mills said in a release. "We're confident that the investigation into the shooting will determine that the action he took was justified based on the law and his training."
Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski confirmed he received O'Neill's resignation letter and that his departure was effective immediately.

Authorities have said O'Neill was responding to a report of a person breaking into cars on June 16 and confronted the 54-year-old Logan, and that the officer said he shot Logan after he refused orders to drop a knife.
A judge has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the shooting, which authorities said was not recorded by O'Neill's body camera. Protesters, in the wake of the shooting, have called for police reforms and questioned South Bend's body camera and use of force policies.

The shooting prompted Buttigieg, who's seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, to leave the campaign trail for several days to answer questions about public safety and race.
In a statement Monday, Buttigieg said efforts to strengthen trust between law enforcement and community members continue.
"We will await results of the independent criminal investigation, and apply any lessons learned to our work on the future of the Police Department and the community," he said in the statement.

Logan's brother, Tyree Bonds, said the family still will pursue a federal lawsuit that alleges O'Neill used excessive deadly force. The city of South Bend is also named in the lawsuit.
