The Daily Buzz For July 17 ☕📰☕

Camila Cabello for Clash Magazine - Issue #112
It takes courage to be a pioneer. There were times in the last 15 years of Clash when we’d second-guess ourselves - usually when an opportunity was presented that raised excitement levels immeasurably but came with the risk of potential backlash or other consequences. The positives, however, would always outweigh the negatives, and we’d instinctively forge ahead until our apprehensions would be neutralised by the resulting impact of our best intentions.

People recognise and appreciate truth and sincerity when they see it, but it’s not always easy to maintain that sense of honour. This issue, therefore, is dedicated to those artists whose own fearlessness has developed through a necessity to turn the world upside down by fully expressing themselves.

Camila Cabello - the sixth and final cover star of issue 112 - once lived life on the outside looking in. Now, emboldened by love, bravery, and honesty, as the 22-year-old pop phenomenon prepares to drop her second album, she’s finally firmly in the present and learning to trust her emotions - and other people.
“Honestly, I think I’m just more brave,” she tells Clash. “I feel like I can be much more honest with myself and other people because obviously I’m growing up and I have a more grounded sense of who I am.”

Also featured in this issue are Juice WRLD, 070 Shake, Mahalia, Dev Hynes, Beth Ditto, These New Puritans, Lil Miquela, Conan Gray, Grace Carter, Valee, Sheryl Crow, and much more.
Clash 112 is available to buy online now ahead of its release next week - get the magazine HERE.

#RHOA: Eva Marcille VS Kenya Moore She called her A ‘Compulsive Liar’!
Eva Marcille and returning cast member Kenya Moore reportedly already had a massive fight during the filming of an upcoming episode of ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ and Eva didn’t hesitate in releasing her frustrations on her co-star.

It looks like the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Atlanta and Kenya Moore‘s return is going to be intense! The 48-year-old controversial star got into a fight with Eva Marcille, 34, while the cameras were rolling, according to a source at RadarOnline, and it proved that not everyone is happy about her return to the Bravo show. “Eva and Kenya went at it during filming,” the source explained. “Eva told Kenya she was a compulsive liar. Eva also called Kenya a manipulator. Now Kenya has it out for Eva.”

It turns out the fight is a hint about the focus of the 12th season. “Kenya and Eva fighting is going to be one of the leading stories this season on the show,” the source explained. “Kenya is the villain again and [Eva] is coming hard for her.” Although cast mates, Cynthia Bailey and Porsha Williams, have expressed support for Kenya’s return, the latest fight reflects Eva’s very different outlook.

The drama between the ladies should definitely be interesting for fans awaiting the season. Since Kenya, who started appearing on RHOA during its fifth season in 2012, took a little break from the show after season 10, her return brings high anticipation. The Tea is Kenya is thrilled to be returning to the popular series because she missed the experience and feels it’s where she belongs. “Kenya Moore is so excited to be returning to RHOA,” the source said. “She missed the show and is having a great time connecting again with all the ladies and spending more time with them. Kenya knows that she was made for reality TV and is so excited to share her life with viewers again. Kenya is keeping it real and not holding anything back at all yet again.”

The new mom is also happy about showing off her new daughter, Brooklyn, who she gave birth to in Nov. 2018.  “She can’t wait to show Brooklyn off to all the viewers,” the source said.

#Empire Is Bryshere Y. Gray Teasing Working With Chris Brown?
There is little better on Empire than when Bryshere Y. Gray performs as Hakeem, whether it’s on his own or in a duet or part of a group — but now the handsome actor has a special question for fans about a possible new collaboration.
Gray took to his Instagram account to find out what fans may think of his pairing with a particularly hot artist who has everyone talking.

“Who’s up? Drop a “️” if we should drop a track together! #Empire 🦁🔥,” he asked as fans went wild, adding those little hearts like crazy in the comments section.
That hot artist happens to be none other than Chris Brown. It certainly wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he could guest star on Empire. After all, the Fox show has had more than its share of stunt casting in pivotal guest roles on the hit show that’s about to enter its sixth and final season.
Past big names to join the Empire universe have included Courtney Love, Xzibit, Kelly Rowland, Petey Pablo, and Mariah Carey, just to name a few. Each one has made an impact and thrilled fans in the process.

Season 5 went with big guest stars too, like Joss Stone, Mario and those who weren’t joining in on the singing fun like Vivica A. Fox, Forest Whitaker, and Phylicia Rashad. There’s no reason to think that Empire won’t go even bigger for Season 6 and Chris Brown would certainly fit that bill.

So what do you say? Do you want to see Chris Brown appear on Empire during the next season to collaborate with Gray?

#MusicNews: The Brand New Heavies Announce New Album ‘TBNH’
Back in April, The Brand New Heavies gave us an unexpected treat when they released their single "Getaway." The song not only served as the group's first new material in years but also saw them reuniting with singer N'Dea Davenport (albeit temporarily). We speculated what it could mean then and now we know for a fact: The Heavies are back! The acid jazz group — which now consists of core members Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy along with a rotating cast of vocalists — are all set to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their debut album with the release of their newest effort TBNH this September. With that on the horizon, the fellas give us another listen with the release of their next single, "These Walls.""These Walls," interestingly enough, is a cover of Kendrick Lamar's song of the same title, though it definitely has the Heavies' unique spin.

They, along with producer Mark Ronson, reinterpret the track to fit more with their aesthetic, building upon the already jazzy groove and adding a few of their own embellishments like horns and a swinging rhythm shepherding. Meanwhile, N'Dea returns to the fold once again to take on the role Anna Wise served for Kendrick, though she takes a few liberties with the lyrics as she adds a few here and there to flesh out the lyrical story.N'Dea isn't the only familiar voice coming into The Brand New Heavies fold for TBNH. Other vocalists who will appear on the record, which you can pre-order now, include Siedah Garrett, Angie Stone, Beverly Knight, Honey LaRochelle, Angela Ricci and more.

Take a listen to "These Walls" HERE and Get the new project which will arrive in stores on September 6th

#HipHopNews: Young Thug Says Lil Nas X Shouldn’t Have Come Out As Gay
Young Thug is proud of the moves Lil Nas X has made, but he doesn't believe the "Old Town Road" singer should've been so open about his sexuality.

In a new No Jumper interview uploaded Sunday (July 14), Thugger offers his thoughts on Nas X's rise to the top of the Billboard charts. The YSL Records founder, who recently hopped on another remix of "Old Town Road," gave his fellow ATLien all the props for coming out as gay during Pride month. However, Thugger, who toured with J. Cole last year, did admit that he feels Nas X shouldn't have been so open about his sexuality because "Muthafuckas is just all judgemental."
“It ain’t even about the music no more," Thugger explains. "Soon as ["Old Town Road"] comes on everybody’s like, ‘This gay ass nigga.’ Niggas don’t even care to listen to the song no more."

Thugger is known for inspiring rappers to be themselves. Earlier this year, Nas X credited the Slime Language artist for leading the country trap movement.

“I believe whenever you’re trying something new, it’s always going to get some kind of bad reception. For example, when rap started, or when rock and roll began. But with country trap, I in no way want to take credit for that. I believe Young Thug would be one of the biggest pioneers in that," Lil Nas X told Time back in March.

Abel Cedeno Gay Teen who was Bullied has been found guilty of manslaughter in Bronx school stabbing
A teenager who fatally stabbed a classmate inside a school in the Bronx in 2017 was found guilty of all charges Monday.
Abel Cedeno, 19, blamed years of bullying because of his sexuality and testified on his own behalf, saying he stabbed 15-year-old Matthew McCree and 16-year-old Arane Leboy at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation after McCree punched him.

McCree died from his injuries, while Leboy was severely injured. Cedeno was convicted in the judge trial of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was remanded and will be sentenced on September 10.
"In a matter of seconds, the defendant took out his knife and stabbed two students in front of a crowded classroom, killing 15-year-old Matthew McCree and critically wounding Ariane Laboy, then 16," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said. "The incident has forever traumatized the young students and school faculty who watched in horror the violence that unfolded that morning. It is truly a tragedy; a young life was taken, and so many other lives -- including the defendant's -- are irreparably damaged."

Cedeno was repeating the 12th grade because he had missed so much school due to bullying. He was relentlessly taunted as a “faggot” and “bitch,” he had testified — in some cases, just for having long hair. He was not made aware of alternatives available to him as a gay student, such as the Harvey Milk School. Most all of the evidence of the bullying Cedeno had been subjected to and the long records of fighting and other school violence on the part of the victims that Cedeno claimed to be aware of were not admitted into evidence by the judge. The defense of “justification” or self-defense was rejected.

McCree's mother said she was grateful for the verdict.

"I got justice for my son," she told reporters.

Diddy Announces the Return of MTV’s “Making the Band”
The 2000s reality series spawned O-Town, Danity Kane, and other groups
Diddy has announced that he’s bringing back the MTV series “Making the Band,” the reality show that forms a band from scratch and follows them throughout their new musical careers. He has also revealed that he’s begun conducting the worldwide search for the next band’s members, with the show set to return in 2020. “It’s not just about America and America’s music. It’s about everybody’s voice,” Diddy said in an announcement video today. “So we’re doing a global talent search.”

“Making the Band” previously aired on MTV from 2000-2009, with Diddy handpicking the members in each group. It spawned O-Town, Danity Kane, Da Band, and Day26. In 2017, the MTV brought back another one of their previously canceled shows, “Total Request Live.”

13 Reasons Has Removed Hannah Baker suicide scene ahead of season 3
The creators of 13 Reasons Why have edited out Hannah Baker's suicide scene from season 1 of the Netflix series.
As soon as 13 Reasons Why was released in 2017, it divided viewers. Some people praised the show for addressing serious issues like teen suicide, bullying and rape, while others accused the teen drama of sensationalising these topics and being very triggering to anyone who's experienced these things. One scene in particular, which graphically depicted the lead Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) killing herself, was heavily criticised.

Now the team behind 13 Reasons Why have removed that scene from the show ahead of season 3's release date.
In a new statement, Netflix explained their decision to cut the scene. They said: "We’ve heard from many young people that 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help – often for the first time. As we prepare to launch season three later this summer, we’ve been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show."

The team then went on to reveal: "So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we’ve decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life."

If you watch season 1, episode 13 now, you simply see Clay tell Mr. Porter: "she went into the bathroom and died alone." The scene then cuts to Hannah's parents finding her dead in the bath. You no longer see the horrifying sequence in which Hannah slits her own wrists and dies.
The decision has been met with positive feedback on social media but many people are calling out Netflix for only doing this two years after the initial backlash. What's more, the show still includes graphic rape scenes (Jessica and Hannah are both raped by Bryce in season 1 and Montgomery rapes Tyler with a broom in season 2).

Amazon Workers Walk Out To Protest Working Conditions, Unequal Pay
Some Amazon employees around the world are going on strike on Amazon Prime Day, the most highly anticipated discount shopping day of the year, to protest working conditions and demand better pay, Market Watch reports.

The strike has been extended from one day to two—July 15 through July 16. At least 2,000 workers in Germany, Spain, and Poland, as well as more than 100 workers in Minnesota, are striking, organizing around the slogan, “No more discount on our incomes.”

More from Market Watch: The strike comes as Amazon, which employees more than 600,000 people globally, extended the Prime Day sale for the first time ever to two days from July 15 to July 16 and promised one-day delivery on many items. Employee advocates say that will put more physical pressure on workers to keep up with demand. … One U.S. Amazon warehouse employee in Minnesota said she’s expected to physically handle and drop off 600 items per hour while staying on her feet continuously.
“We’re humans, not robots,” William Stolz, an Amazon warehouse worker in Shakopee, Minnesota, told CNN Business. “They’re treating us like machines.”
According to CNN Business, Amazon raised starting wages to $15 an hour for all US employees last year, but workers say they are still not treated with respect; further, they say that they are subjected to dangerous conditions, unfair scheduling, and “impossible demands,” with conditions not being equitable across factories. Demonstrations are planned in New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC, in solidarity. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, have both voiced support for the Amazon Prime Day Strike.

Austin Butler is set to play Elvis Pressley in Baz Luhrmann’s Biopic
Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic has found its king of rock ‘n’ roll.
After numerous screen tests, Austin Butler has been tapped to play Elvis Presley in Luhrmann’s next feature film for Warner Bros. The studio tested with a handful of actors in full hair and make-up at the end of June to see who would join Tom Hanks, who is playing Presley’s manager, Col. Tom Parker.

“I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist,” Luhrmann said in a statement. “Throughout the casting process, it was an honor for me to encounter such a vast array of talent. I had heard about Austin Butler from his stand-out role opposite Denzel Washington in ‘The Iceman Cometh’ on Broadway, and through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”

Luhrmann also co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce. The movie covers the relationship between the veteran manager and the young singer, who came from dirt-poor origins to become an iconic star who changed the course of music. The project marks Luhrmann’s first film since his adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. He most recently worked on the Netflix series “The Get Down.”
The plan is to shoot at the top of 2020 to accommodate Hanks’ schedule, which includes the upcoming Paul Greengrass movie “News of the World,” which shoots in the fall.

Butler’s recent credits include Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy “The Dead Don’t Die.” On the small screen, he has starred on the CW’s “The Carrie Diaries,” “Switched at Birth” and “Zoey 101.”

Nipsey Hussle Under Posthumous Investigation for Gang Ties: Report
The investigation into Nipsey, his associates, and his Marathon Clothing shop began before his death and is reportedly ongoing
Officials within the Los Angeles Police Department and city attorney’s office are investigating the late Nipsey Hussle to determine whether his strip mall that housed his Marathon Clothing store was a center for gang activity, The New York Times reports.

The investigation began before Nipsey’s death, and according to the Times, the rapper’s murder emboldened investigators who were concerned that exact kind of violent act could take place on the property. The origin of the investigation is unclear. A spokesperson for the LAPD declined to comment on specifics of the investigation, but told the Times that police are actively negotiating with Nipsey’s associates on the property “to mitigate some of those crime issues.”

According to the report, city officials pressured the former owners of the strip mall to evict Nipsey and his associates. Instead, they sold the property to Nipsey and a group of investors. Marqueece Harris-Dawson, a City Council member, said he had been working for years to learn more about the investigation on Nipsey’s behalf.

Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed at his Los Angeles strip mall on March 31. Eric Holder, a 29-year-old Los Angeles man, was arrested and charged with murder.

Brody Jenner On Dad Missing His Wedding: Caitlyn 'Had Better Things To Do'
Brody Jenner got real about his father, Caitlyn Jenner, ditching his wedding.
On the (July 15) episode of The Hills: New Beginnings, Brody spoke candidly of the disappointment he feels over Caitlyn skipping missing his marriage to Kaitlynn Carter. The 35-year-old discussed the matter over a family dinner with his wife, brother Brandon, and mother Linda Thompson.

During the scene, Thompson opens with how Caitlyn’s transition impacted their relationship. “I met your dad, married your dad, had this great happy life here in Malibu until that fateful day where Bruce said to me, ‘I want to transition,’” Thompson revealed, according to Us Weekly.

“My life just did a 180. In my mind, I had lost my normal, my family, my wonderful husband that I had thought would be forever. I had lost my marriage and the father of my kids,” she continued. “I was devastated. That was just a momentary reaction. My greater sympathy had to go out to Caitlyn.”
Showing sympathy to Caitlyn has been difficult for Brody, who still hasn't forgiven his father for missing his nuptials. “Not having my dad at the wedding, it was a bummer. Honestly, it really did hurt,” Brody confessed. “I would have loved to have had her there, but she had better things to do, apparently.”

As a consolation, Thompson pled her son not to harbor that pain. “I don’t give Bruce, Caitlyn a pass for not being a father. I don’t think there’s any excuse ever to not be there for your children,” she said. “It’s not what you would ever do — to have a child and not call them on their birthday and be a parent to them. … I’m not excusing Caitlyn, I’m just saying it’s forgivable.”

“Everything in life is forgivable, and it’s not even for the other person, it’s for yourself,” she added. “You have to forgive, so it doesn’t eat away inside you.”

Giants safety Kamrin Moore suspended after domestic violence arrest
New York Giants safety Kamrin Moore has been suspended by the team after he was arrested in New Jersey on allegations he punched and stepped on the neck of a woman who said the two were dating.
The Giants said in a statement Monday that Moore, 22, was arrested over the weekend in Linden in an alleged domestic violence-related incident.

"Moore has been suspended by the team pending further investigation," the team said.
Moore's agent, Eugene Lee, said in a statement that he is confident the NFL player "will be exonerated and vindicated completely of these baseless charges," NBC Sports reported.

A criminal complaint says the woman reported the alleged assault to Linden police at 1:20 a.m. Saturday. She told police she was assaulted by Moore around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, according to the complaint.
The woman, who told police she met Moore in January and began dating him, said that on Thursday she was in New Jersey to pick up a friend and texted Moore to say she was in the neighborhood, according to the document.

When Moore didn't respond, she went to his home and another woman approached her vehicle before a fight broke out, according to the complaint. When the woman who made the complaint to police fell to the ground during the altercation, Moore put his foot on her neck, the document states.

She told police that she got up and yelled at Moore and pushed him, and then Moore punched her, causing her to lose consciousness, according to the complaint. Police said they took photos of visible injuries that included bruising.
Moore was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, according to the complaint.
Man charged after allegedly killing teen, posting photos of her body on Discord
The athlete's agent said in the statement that "while the complaint involves serious allegations, representatives for Mr. Moore are requesting that the media, social media, general public and Giants fans use extreme caution and not pass judgment upon Mr. Moore until due process has run its course."

"We remain confident that when the truth is revealed, Mr. Moore will be exonerated and vindicated completely of these baseless charges," Lee said in the statement, according to NBC Sports.
Moore's attorney, Alex Spiro, said in a statement to NBC New York that "the claimant in this matter showed up unannounced and unsolicited at Mr. Moore’s home to begin an altercation with Mr. Moore's girlfriend and invent these accusations," and that "he will be fully cleared of all charges."

Moore was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2018 in the sixth round and was claimed by the Giants off waivers. He played in two games in the 2018 season, according to the Giants' website.

Scarlett Johansson says diversity comments were 'taken out of context'

"Avengers" actress Scarlett Johansson says comments she made on "political correctness" in casting have been taken out of context and asserts that she supports diversity in film.
“An interview that was recently published has been edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context,” Johansson said in a statement over the weekend to several media outlets, referring to an article published in As If magazine. “The question I was answering in my conversation with the contemporary artist, David Salle, was about the confrontation between political correctness and art."

In the As If article, which was obtained by the United Kingdom's Daily Mail, she said actors "should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job."

"I feel like it’s a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions," she told As If. "I think society would be more connected if we just allowed others to have their own feelings and not expect everyone to feel the way we do."
Johansson came under fire in 2017 for playing an Asian character in "Ghost in the Shell" and canceled plans last year to portray a transgender man, Dante "Tex" Gill, in the upcoming film "Rub & Tug," after transgender actors and advocates questioned the casting.

"While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante's story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person," Johansson said in a statement at the time, according to Out magazine.
Building a new Internet: The bold plan to decentralize the web
In the statement she released Saturday, the actress said "in an ideal world, any actor should be able to play anybody and Art, in all forms, should be immune to political correctness."

"I recognize that in reality, there is a widespread discrepancy amongst my industry that favors Caucasian, cisgender actors and that not every actor has been given the same opportunities that I have been privileged to," she added.

The Indiana Police Officer Who Fatally Shot Black Man In South Bend Indiana Has Resigned!
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A white Indiana police officer who fatally shot a black man, sparking protests and roiling the presidential campaign of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, has resigned, the local police union announced Monday.
The Fraternal Order of Police said Sgt. Ryan O'Neill's resignation from the South Bend Police Department was due to stress and media attention given to last month's shooting of Eric Logan. The union also pointed to "hateful things said on social media."

"Sgt. O'Neill did his job and was forced to defend his own life from a convicted felon who was armed with an eight-inch hunting knife," FOP president Harvey Mills said in a release. "We're confident that the investigation into the shooting will determine that the action he took was justified based on the law and his training."
Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski confirmed he received O'Neill's resignation letter and that his departure was effective immediately.

Authorities have said O'Neill was responding to a report of a person breaking into cars on June 16 and confronted the 54-year-old Logan, and that the officer said he shot Logan after he refused orders to drop a knife.
A judge has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the shooting, which authorities said was not recorded by O'Neill's body camera. Protesters, in the wake of the shooting, have called for police reforms and questioned South Bend's body camera and use of force policies.

The shooting prompted Buttigieg, who's seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, to leave the campaign trail for several days to answer questions about public safety and race.
In a statement Monday, Buttigieg said efforts to strengthen trust between law enforcement and community members continue.
"We will await results of the independent criminal investigation, and apply any lessons learned to our work on the future of the Police Department and the community," he said in the statement.

Logan's brother, Tyree Bonds, said the family still will pursue a federal lawsuit that alleges O'Neill used excessive deadly force. The city of South Bend is also named in the lawsuit.

The Daily Buzz For June 12 ☕📰☕

Tessa Thompson for Marie Claire July 2019
She Talks 'Sexist and Racist' Industry -- How She Negotiated 'MIB' Contract Celebrity
"When we talk about issues of pay equity, that means something different to Natalie Portman than it does to me," she says.

Tessa Thompson says the movie industry is inherently "sexist and racist".
In a wide-ranging interview with Marie Claire for their July cover story, the actress discussed how she negotiated her contract for the upcoming film "Men in Black: International," which reunites her with Chris Hemsworth for the third time.
"The truth is, the system where you assess international value is inherently sexist and racist because we haven't had those opportunities," Thompson said. "The only way to disrupt that is to create new models."

"When we were having the conversation around how we structure our deals, I said, 'I understand who Chris Hemsworth is and who I am not relative to him, globally and otherwise. But in the success of the film, that changes. In success, I want equity. Because then you can’t make the same argument.'"
When asked if she received the pay she desired, Thompson replied, "Let's just say we're all happy."
The "Thor: Ragnorak" star credited the dialogue sparked by the Time's Up movement in helping her start the conversation.
"[It] allowed me to say things I'm not sure I would have said a year ago," she said.
Not only is Thompson an active member of Time's Up, but she's also one of the proponents of the 4% challenge, which urges members of the film community to work with female directors.
The "Creed" star is also very vocal about the specific challenges women of color face.
"When we talk about issues of pay equity, that means something different to Natalie Portman than it does to me," she said. "Women who are not of color are talking about pay equity with men. [We] are so far away from that."

"I look at actresses who are not of color and at the opportunities that they're presented in terms of directors wanting to make work for them," she later added. "When I look at my contemporaries of color, it's only other artists of color who are doing that in a real, robust way."

Thompson also took a pop quiz with the publication. You can get more HERE
"Men In Black: International" hits theaters June 14.

#Empire: Guess who’s back on Instagram? It’s JUSSIE SMOLLETT!
Jussie Smollett has returned to Instagram for the first time since he was allegedly attacked in Chicago in January.
On Monday, the actor posted a video of Tarell Alvin McCraney's speech from the 2019 Tony Awards in which the "Choir Boy" star spoke of "black queerness."
Jussie had not used social media since Jan. 28, one day before he claims he was brutally attacked by two men. Since that day, a lot has transpired in Jussie's life and a cloud of suspicion has hovered over his story. While maintaining that he was a victim, police had their doubts, and on Feb. 21 he was arrested after local authorities alleged that he staged the attack with the help of two men.
He was later charged with 16 felonies, to which he pleaded not guilty. Then, on March 26, the criminal case against him -- for allegedly lying to police about an alleged racial and homophobic attack -- was dropped.

#NewMusic from The Hamiltones Release Long-Awaited Debut EP ‘Watch The Ton3s’
We know it's June and summer is around the corner, but GRAMMY nominees The Hamiltones have us feeling like a kid on Christmas morning. After years of providing background vocals for Anthony Hamilton and hooking us with musical bait, J. Vito, Tony Lelo and 2E have finally rewarded us with their official debut project, the EP Watch The Ton3s.When you consider their collaborations with artists like PJ Morton, Jonathan McReynolds and Tori Kelly, plus their unique, viral covers of everyone from Drake to Lil Nas X, these sangin' brothas have proved that there isn't a genre that they can't handle. However, this particular project is the very reason we know #RnBLives.

As 2E says, “We can switch up every now and then, but this is a soul/R&B EP -- feel-good music.” And he's not wrong.Although we've already heard (and memorized) half of the 6-track EP, it doesn't diminish our excitement for Watch The Ton3s in any way. In fact, hearing previous singles – "MCBYL (Money Can't Buy You Love)" featuring Ricco Barrino, "PIECES" and the "MCBYL (Remix)" with fire verses from our boy Phonte – packaged with three brand new tracks, creates a compelling, love-themed narrative and allows us to appreciate them with fresh perspective."ALONE" is a contemplative ballad about self-love, acceptance and growth.

Meanwhile, organ-heavy "Best Friend" is a sultry, slow-burning groove steeped in retro soul and blues. Uptempo "Gotta Be Lovin' Me," previously leaked as an acoustic tune, is a sunny jam perfect for any summertime playlist. Loaded with heavenly harmonies, carefully crafted lyrics and live instrumentation that hark back to a time when you didn’t just listen to music, you felt it.

Watch The Ton3s is a fitting premiere for this talented trio.

Linda Fairstein Pens Nasty Op-Ed Against 'When They See Us': "Ms. DuVernay Does Not Define Me"
The former Central Park 5 prosecutor was recently dropped by her book publisher.
Linda Fairstein, the former Central Park 5 prosecutor who has come under fire following the release of Ava DuVernay‘s Netflix series When They See Us, continues to double down on her criticisms against the series and her portrayal in it.
In the show, Fairstein is portrayed by Felicity Huffman as the main mover of the investigation and persecution of the five teens. Initially, Fairstein said that the series presents “a totally and completely untrue picture of events and my participation,” and puts “words in my mouth that I never said in Oliver Stone fashion.”

Fairstein also called it a “basket of lies” and accused DuVernay of orchestrating a public campaign against her.
“She’s behind it,” Fairstein said. “Her lies are behind it all.”

Now, in a new op-ed for the The Wall Street Journal, Fairstein called the show an “outright fabrication” and argued that even though the Central Park 5 didn’t beat and rape the jogger, they still could’ve taken part in or assaulted other people in the park.
“…the larger picture of that terrible night: a riot in the dark that resulted in the apprehension of more than 15 teenagers who set upon multiple victims,” Fairstein wrote in the op-ed. “…eight others were attacked, including two men who were beaten so savagely that they required hospitalization for head injuries.”

Fairstein claimed that there is evidence proving that the five were involved in a riot.
“Mr. Reyes’ confession, DNA match and claim that he acted alone required that the rape charges against the five be vacated. I agreed with that decision, and still do. But the other charges, for crimes against other victims, should not have been vacated,” she wrote. “Ms. DuVernay does not define me, and her film does not speak the truth.”
Since the series’ release, Fairstein has been dropped by her book publisher, and has stepped down from the boards of several nonprofits including Safe Horizon victims services agency, God’s Love We Deliver, Joyful Heart Foundation, and Vassar College.

A Drug Lord May Have Hired Hit on Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Over Alleged Affair With His Wife?
Baseball legend David Ortiz was shot over the weekend in the Dominican Republic, but now authorities believe he was shot by two police officers hired by a drug lord who thought the former athlete was having an affair with his wife.

via NYP: Three law enforcement sources have confirmed the motive to the Daily Mail. The local drug lord has not been identified.
Police have so far arrested Eddy Feliz Garcia but the probe is ongoing, the news outlet reported.
Ortiz, who is recovering from surgery — in which parts of his intestines and colon, as well as his gallbladder, were removed — is married to Tiffany Ortiz and has three children.

It was unclear if his family was with him in the capital, Santo Domingo, where he was ambushed Sunday at the Dial Bar and Lounge, according to the Daily Mail.
Ortiz, who also suffered liver damage, will be flown from the Dominican Republic to a hospital in Boston as soon as possible aboard a Red Sox jet, according to ESPN.

Baseball legend or not, you can’t be out here having affairs with the wife of a known drug lord and not expect any repercussions.

DJ Khaled Threatens Legal Action Against Billboard Over Album Sales!
Well, this is a side of DJ Khaled we don't see too often. The Miami producer's Father of Asahd album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Charts, and Khaled was pissed, to say the least. Tyler, The Creator's Igor album landed in the No. 1 spot, and apparently it had everything to do with Khaled's bundle deal with an energy drink for the album.

It was reported Khaled stormed into Epic Records and had a serious, kind of heated conversation about his album sales. It was originally reported he had a whole tantrum in the offices, but then it was said he “passionately spoke" to the record executives.
Apparently, Billboard disqualified his promotion because it hadn't been approved, even though Khaled's camp claims they had received approval prior to the bundle deal's release.

Well, now he's taking his frustrations to court and he's reportedly gearing up for a "monster lawsuit" against Billboard Chart, alleging the organization unfairly disqualified more than 100,000 sales of Father of Asahd, robbing him of the No. 1 spot.
According to Page Six, the DJ's lawyers have fired off a letter to Silvio Pietroluongo, SVP of charts and data development at Billboard. He means business.

A source from Khaled's camp tells the site: “When Khaled’s team tried to appeal, Billboard refused to budge.” The source said the situation was all the more unjust because Tyler, the Creator’s bundle deal figures were included in his total sales. On May 30, Billboard announced Tyler debuted at No. 1 with 165,000 albums sold, with Khaled at No. 2 at 137,000. Not fair, argues Khaled’s team.

“Khaled was frustrated his label didn’t fight harder for his bundle sales to be included.”
A Billboard source disputed that 100,000 DJ Khaled sales were disqualified but admitted an undisclosed number of his sales were ruled out because “there were strange anomalies in the data,” adding that the decision was based on chart rules following talks with Khaled’s management, Sony Records and Nielsen. Billboard announced it has reviewed its rules allowing artists to bundle albums with merch and will outline a new policy for 2020.

Looks like Khaled isn't trying to wait until 2020. He wants action NOW.

Activists Demand Justice for Layleen Polanco, the 27-Year-Old Transgender Woman Who Died in Solitary Confinement
On Monday night, hundreds gathered in Foley Square in New York City on behalf of Layleen Polanco, the 27-year-old transgender woman of color who recently died in solitary confinement at Rikers Island. Here, what you need to know about Polanco and the outcry for information surrounding her death.

On June 7th, Polanco was found unresponsive in her cell, though it is still unclear how exactly she died. She was being held at the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island, a woman's facility, and is reported to have been in solitary confinement following an alleged fight. According to the Washington Post, the New York City Department of Correction reported that a custodial staff member tried to revive her using CPR and then a defibrillator before a member of the medical staff arrived. She was pronounced dead by 3:45 P.M.

The DOC tweeted on June 8th that it is investigating her tragic death, writing, "We take this matter extremely seriously. We have so far determined the death was not the result of violence or foul play. We will share more information as we determine the cause."
The Post reported that Polanco was arrested on April 13th and detained since April 16th on misdemeanor charges of assault and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The Response: The Legal Aid Society, which represented Polanco, released a statement following the news of her death, saying, "Ms. Polanco’s passing is a tragic reminder of the heightened risk and physical and emotional torture that transgender people - especially those from communities of color - face in the criminal legal system, particularly while in custody. Her heartbreaking and untimely death warrants a swift, complete, independent, and transparent investigation from the City. We join New Yorkers in demanding justice for Ms. Polanco, her family, and for her community."

Polanco's family also released a statement through their lawyers, saying, "We are heartbroken over the death of our beloved Layleen, whose bright light was an inspiration to all who knew her. as we gather to mourn this tremendous loss, we are left shocked and outraged by the stony silence from the Department of Correction, Mayor’s Office, NYPD, and City government. The family demands answers, and we are entitled to them."

How to Help: Polanco's sister has set up a GoFundMe page for funeral costs. There, she writes, "We will make sure her story is heard after we find out what happened. Please helps us lay her to rest. This was a very unexpected death and a big loss to her family and friends." The funeral is set to take place on Saturday, and the family has asked attendees to wear colorful clothing to the service.

Toronto fans blasted for cheering after Kevin Durant’s brutal Game 5 injury
Kevin Durant went down in Monday’s Game 5, clutching at his right leg — something few basketball fans wanted to see. Some of those fans, though, were apparently in attendance at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and cheered at Durant’s misfortune.
That display brought a quick rebuke both online and from some Raptors players, who encouraged their home crowd to cheer for the injured player rather than for his painful circumstance. Fans complied, giving the Golden State Warriors star a hand and chanting “KD! KD!” as he left the court.

Ibaka and other players from Raptors holding their arms out to try to get crowd to calm down. PA announcer literally comes on mic to say "Shhhhhhh." Eventually fans start clapping for him as he exits, and start to chant "KD"
With the Warriors down 3-1 in the Finals and facing a do-or-die scenario, Durant took the risk of worsening his injury by playing. The reigning two-time Finals MVP was reported during the ABC telecast as dealing with “raw emotions” after he got to the Golden State locker room.
ABC’s Doris Burke reported during the third quarter Monday that Durant would not return to the game and he would get an MRI exam on Tuesday.

After the game, which the Warriors managed to win despite the loss of Durant, Golden State Coach Steve Kerr said of the forward’s injury to reporters, “Some of the fans were cheering when it happened. The Raptors players understood how serious it was. There was a couple of minutes there where it all seemed so eerie and strange.”
Warriors General Manager Bob Myers followed Kerr at the postgame news conference, and he grew emotional while announcing that Durant had suffered an injury to his Achilles'. Depending on the severity, that could put Durant’s 2019-20 season in jeopardy, after a summer in which he was expected to become a coveted free agent.

“He was cleared to play tonight. That was a collaborative decision," Myers said of Durant. "I don’t believe there’s anybody to blame. I understand this world, if you have to, you can blame me. I run our basketball operations department.”

When it was Golden State star Stephen Curry’s turn to address the media, he referred to the fact that he briefly lived in Toronto as a youngster while his father, Dell Curry, finished his NBA career with the Raptors.

Calling Raptors fans “nice people” with “passion and excitement for the game,” Curry said he was “very confused about that reaction,” because it was “not my experience with people of this city.” He commended Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and Danny Green for “kind of signaling to the crowd, like, let’s check ourselves a little bit.”
“This is about an individual, a human being, and not, ‘Oh, shoot he’s hurt, we won the championship,’ ” Curry added. "That was probably the initial thought, and you hate to see that when a guy’s going through pain like that.

“So again, that’s not my experience with this city, and I just hope that ugliness doesn’t show itself again, as we go forward in this series.”
The Finals move back to Oakland for Thursday’s Game 6, and if the Warriors win, Game 7 will be played Sunday in Toronto. Durant will be a spectator again, as he had been for more than a month, but this time with likely a much longer timetable for recovery.

Kevin Hart Sued After Woman Claims His Security Shoved Her; Woman Says Incident Left Her With Broken Face
Kevin Hart has found himself in the middle of a legal battle involving his security team and an alleged innocent bystander. A lawsuit has been filed stating a woman was pushed to the ground by Hart’s bodyguards while they were trying to escort Hart out of an event. The woman, Carmen Marrero, alleges that the incident left her with a completely broken face.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Marrero says that she was walking on a sidewalk near 54th street and Eighth Avenue in the heart of midtown Manhattan in January when she noticed a small crowd of people gathered outside of a SAG-AFTRA event. She claims Hart’s security team suddenly came aggressively storming out the front doors and one security guard, in particular, shoved people out of the way. Marrero says she was knocked to the ground, and left with a fractured face.

Marrero’s attorney, Richard Russo, says they are suing Hart, his production company and SAG-AFTRA for assault and battery and are, of course, requesting a hefty pay-out for damages. Marrero says Hart was “negligent” for failing to properly train his team of security guards.

Coincidently, Hart’s voiceover feature in “The Secret Life of Pets 2” is going to earn him a nice paycheck as it is currently the number one movie in America, grossing $47.1 million in tickets this weekend. Hart has yet to comment on the accusations or the lawsuit.

What do you think? Should celebs be sued for the actions of their security team(s)? Should bodyguards get sued for doing their jobs?
