The Daily Buzz For July 16 ☕📰☕

Missy Elliott is FABULOUS for Marie Claire. She says New Music is coming!
Missy Elliott has confirmed that new music is on the way. In the latest issue of Marie Claire, Melissa Arnette Elliott reflected on receiving her doctorate in music, becoming the first female hip-hop artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and how she redefined hip-hop vocally and visually.

The interview touches on Elliott’s childhood, working as a songwriter for Mary J. Blige, SWV, and Faith Evans, and eventually Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, and Beyoncé. When asked about her highly-anticipated upcoming seventh album, Missy told the magazine that it’s time to make street dudes enjoy dancing again, like in the days of Soul Train. She told Marie Claire that when we listen to her next album she wants us to think, “There’s no one like Missy. No one.”
Who knows what they want to do for the rest of their life at 6 years old? Missy Elliott did.

This month, the Grammy-winning rapper became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a significant milestone in the star's three-decade career—one she has been manifesting since her earliest school days.
"‘I'm going to be a superstar,'"she would tell her Kindergarten teacher weekly. "The whole class would bust out laughing," she recalled to Marie Claire. Nevertheless, the very young aspiring star forged ahead.

"It's funny because I was just telling somebody that everything I spoke, I've done. And that's how powerful the tongue is," Elliott told the magazine. "I used to sit in the house and act like I was having conversations with Janet [Jackson] and Michael [Jackson] and Madonna and whoever. I then would go and say my thank yous for award shows that I hadn't made it to yet. I had speeches, and I would be in the mirror thanking my mama."

While her dreams were strong, the path to accomplishing them was less clear. "Trust me, I was broke. And my family would be like, ‘You better find something to do.' They told me to go in the Army. I'm like, ‘I'm too fat to go in the Army. Where I am running to?'" she explained to Marie Claire. "Everything just seemed so impossible at the time because we didn't have the technology to be able to reach out and put your stuff online and people get a chance to see it. So you have to be at the right place at the right time."
Six studio albums and countless collaborations later, she's become one of the most significant rappers in music history, though the height of her accomplishments were not always apparent to her at the time.

"I was just going, going, going," she told the magazine. "It wasn't resonating what was happening. After I did the Super Bowl [in 2015], my friends called me and they are like, ‘So, what you about to do?' I'm here mopping my floor, and I got to wash the dogs. And they are like, ‘What? You just finished doing the Super Bowl,'" the star recalled. "I was in the car with Michelle Obama [for ‘Carpool Karaoke' in 2016], and they called me like, ‘Girl, we got to celebrate; that's huge!' And I'm like, ‘I'm watching a movie on Netflix.' Now that I've had a chance to slow down, I look back at stuff, and I look back at my ‘She's a Bitch' video [1999], and at the time I didn't even think about it. But I look at it now and I'm like, ‘This is still so many years ahead.'"
More than a decade since The Cookbook, Elliott is working on her next album, the magazine confirmed, and is championing women of color and unknown artists in the industry along the way.
"I do want to make the generation behind feel like, don't be afraid, because we are in a time where so many people can be artists. Now you can just post up, and if it gets to the right person, then it's just viral. I want to be able to encourage those who don't go viral," she explained. "A lot of people out there that have 452 or 100 followers may be talented. I want them to not feel like they have to do what everybody else is doing to gain that attention. Just be you. It's going to catch hold somewhere."

The August 2019 issue of Marie Claire hits newsstands July 23.

#RHOA: #TWIRL Gurl! Kenya Moore is Having “Fun with her Real Housewives Girlfriends!
Twirl! Kenya Moore has been spotted out in the world hanging and "chillin" with her "girls" Kandi Burruss and Cynthia Bailey in the same week she confirmed she'd be returning to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Season 12.

All the ladies posted photos from the hangout session, and Cynthia even applauded "[Kenya and] this damn Snap Back tho," for how awesome she's looking just months after she welcomed her daughter with husband Marc Daly, Brooklyn Daly.

Kandi simply called out the "fun times" the three ladies were having — and without any further details, we're just going to have to take her word for it.
Kenya announced her exit from RHOA in Season 10 after six seasons on the show. This week, however, she commented about her return for Season 12, writing on Instagram, "I was hungry so I snatched a [peach]."

Viewers will recall that Kenya did pop up in Season 11 at one of Cynthia's events in the finale (clip above). Her brief appearance still managed to cause some major drama between Cynthia and Nene Leakes as the season came to a close,

The next 007 will reportedly be Black Actress 'Captain Marvel' star Lashana Lynch!
Lashana Lynch has reportedly been cast in the upcoming "James Bond" film as the franchise's first-ever black and female 007.
"James Bond 25" will still star Daniel Craig as the titular character, with Lynch's character having taken over the iconic agent number after Bond's retirement.
"There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007,' and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful, and a woman," an anonymous source told the Daily Mail. "It's a popcorn-dropping moment."

According to the Daily Mail, "James Bond 25" will introduce the new secret agent in a "pivotal scene." While Daniel Craig will still portray the titular charcter, Lynch's character has taken over the iconic number 007 after Bond's retirement.
"There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007,' and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful, and a woman," an anonymous source told the Mail on Sunday. "It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."

Daniel Craig has said he'll step away from the role after "James Bond 25." Sony
The upcoming "Bond" film will be directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and co-written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who wrote BBC's acclaimed comedy "Fleabag" and Golden Globe-winning thriller "Killing Eve."

"There's been a lot of talk about whether or not [the 'Bond' franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women," Waller-Bridge told Deadline in May.
"I think that's bollocks," she continued. "I think he's absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn't have to. He needs to be true to this character."
Lashana Lynch played Carol Danvers' best friend, Maria Rambeau, in "Captain Marvel." Disney/Marvel
According to the Mail's source, Lynch's character will act as both Bond's foil and a romantic interest — but his seduction tactics will have little effect on the "brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him."
Lynch previously starred alongside Brie Larson in the blockbuster "Captain Marvel." Maria Rambeau, Carol Danvers' best friend and fellow Air Force pilot, and her daughter quickly became fan-favorite characters.

Fans are already excited about Lynch's potential "Bond" role and applauding the revolutionary casting decision.

Drake Fans Are not Happy About The OVO Fest Ticket Prices
This weekend has been an emotional rollercoaster for Drake fans.

On Thursday, the Toronto rapper unveiled the official lineup for his OVO Fest 2019 and confirmed tickets would go on sale early Friday (July 12). Because the event took a hiatus in 2018, Drizzy supporters were understandably stoked and flocked to Ticketmaster to secure their festival passes; however, that excitement quickly turned to shock and disappointment once they realized how much coin they would have to shell out.

As pointed out by XXL magazine, tickets started around $383 USD for lawn seats and went up to $1,918 for seats closer to the stage. The prices were especially disappointing for those who were at the end of the queue, as some waited up to an hour only to find out they couldn't afford the tickets.
The ninth annual OVO Fest concerts will go down Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 at the Budweiser Amphitheater in Toronto. Day 1 performers include B2K, Chingy, Ying Yang Twins, Lloyd, Mario, Pretty Ricky, and Bobby V, while Drake will take the stage on Day 2.
As of Friday night, only single seats were available for the Aug. 4 show. So, if you're a fan of throwback hip-hop/R&B and have a few hundred bucks to spare, there's still a chance to cop some passes.

Boxing legend Pernell ‘Sweet Pea’ Whitaker fatally struck by car
Boxing legend Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker died after being hit by a car in Virginia, according to police.

The Hall of Famer, who won world titles in four weight divisions, was hit in Virginia Beach just after 10 p.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene, Virginia Beach police said in a statement.
“I guess he was wearing dark clothes, the road was dark and the driver didn’t see him,” his 23-year-old son, Devon Whitaker, told the Virginian-Pilot.
“I can’t really say how I’m feeling because I’m feeling shocked. I’m still trying to process everything that’s going on. But he was a cool guy.”

Whitaker, 55, grew up in Norfolk and won an Olympic gold medal in 1984 before earning world titles in the lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight divisions.
He was named Ring magazine’s Boxer of the Year in 1989 and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006, five years after retiring.
“He was a legacy here,” Virginia Beach boxing gym owner Jake Wareing told the Virginian-Pilot. “I grew up watching him all the time.”

He said that Whitaker, who went on to coach after retiring from the ring, would stop in at Wareing’s Gym “from time to time” and give motivational talks to young hopefuls working out there.
Cops said the boxing great “succumbed to his injuries on the scene.” The driver remained at the scene.

“This remains an active investigation,” the department said in its statement.

She kept her pitch simple, stating: 'All I’ll say is dreams really do come true. #FendiPrintsOn #ThatIsAFendiFakk coming soon.'
The Super Bass hitmaker accessorized for the shoot with a matching pink snapback wrapped in the same monogrammed material her tracksuit was made in.
The push comes days after Minaj canceled a performance in Saudi Arabia on human rights concerns.

LOL! Daniel Caesar’s New Album Only Sold 1,635 Copies After He Begged Black People to Cancel to Him
Turning against your own people can sometimes have adverse reactions to your success.
Just ask Daniel Caesar, whose sophomore album flopped like a balled up, wet paper towel after he boldly asked Black people to “cancel” him earlier this year.

It all started back in March when the facially challenged singer put on his captain save-a-hoe cape to rescue his friend YesJulz after she was rightfully dragged on Twitter for thinking it’s OK for her, as a white woman, to wear a t-shirt with the N-word on it.

Then there’s this line she rapped in a very terrible freestyle:
“Because my ass is fat and my skin ain’t black, I’m the vulture they’re huntin, and yet they never do nothin, they never give back, they keep killing blacks…”
In defending his melanin deficient friend, the guy with a face only a mother could truly love made some pretty ridiculous comments about how Black folks are way too sensitive and should be more like White people.

Honestly It was trash. But this is the part of his rant that really matters:
“I’ve said what I’ve said before and y’all tried to cancel me and I apologized like a bitch. I don’t believe in that shit ’cause I think you guys are wrong and I think I’m right … and you can cancel me. Don’t listen to my next shit if you think I’m shit … Make me broke, make me suffer for my opinion. I believe in it.”
Anyone with good sense in their heads would know that condemning and alienating a group of people who make up the majority of your fanbase is career suicide, but unfortunately for Mr. Unfortunate Face, he didn’t get that memo.

When his second studio album, Case Study 01, was released nearly two weeks ago on June 28th, industry insiders predicted it would sell only 3,000 copies (aka “pure sales”), which is already a pretty pitiful projection.
And according to our good friends over at That Grape Juice, the Canadian singer actually sold LESS than the predictions!
In its launch week, ‘Case’ moved a total of 22,000 units (a figure powered by 20,465 units generated on the likes of Apple Music, TIDAL, Spotify and Deezer) but only sold 1,635 copies….one of the lowest opening figures Billboard has ever seen.

Uhm. Ouch! Now, mind you, Ceasar’s debut album Freudian, released in 2017, received critical acclaim and earned him three Grammy nominations, as well as a trophy, for the song “Best Part” with H.E.R.
Of course, all of that was before the human eyesore begged Black people to cancel him. And it looks like he got his wish.

Meanwhile, Black Twitter’s response to Dusty Daniel’s album flopping has been a resounding “That’s what your black ass gets,” with some inquiring about his White homegirl’s current whereabouts.

In WTH? News, YNW Melly Reaches Out to Chris Brown to Work on New Music While Awaiting Double Murder Trial
YNW Melly has no doubt in his mind that he will be coming home soon.
Despite the rapper currently fighting a double murder case and facing the death penalty, Melly appears to have no worries and even has his eyes set on a collaboration with Chris Brown.

Melly apparently had his management team reach out to Chris via social media because a comment from Melly’s account appeared on one of Brown’s recent Instagram posts.

“Let’s do a song CB,” Melly commented along with a snake and heart emoji under a video Chris posted.
Melly’s attempt to get Chris Brown to do a track with him comes just a day after he was seen during a court hearing smiling and laughing with his legal team. The hearing was over Melly adding new lawyers to his defense team.

The “Murder on My Mind” rapper was arrested back in February and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
According to police, YNW Melly (whose real name is Jamell Demons) and another member of his entourage YNW Bortlen (real name: Cortlen Henry) killed two of their friends and staged the crime to make it look like a drive-by shooting.
Authorities have also stated they have forensic evidence that proves Melly was the one who shot and killed his friends YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams) and YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Jr.) while YNW Bortlen helped him cover up the crime.

Melly, who pleaded not guilty to the murder charges in the shooting death of his friends, is also a suspect in the 2017 murder of a Florida police officer.

YNW Melly and Chris Brown on a track sounds like a dope idea, but I’m not sure if it would be in the best interest of Chris Brown associating with someone with this type of drama going on.

Vivica A. Fox Says Farrah Abraham Wanted to 'Fight' Her After Failing Drug Test on 'Face the Truth'
Vivica A. Fox says Farrah Abraham wanted to "fight" her after failing a drug test on her now-canceled show "Face the Truth."
While appearing on "Watch What Happens Live" Sunday night, the actress was asked by a caller if anything went down backstage after Abraham tested positive for barbiturates on Fox's daytime talk show last September.
"Farrah, Farrah, Farrah," Fox began. "She was in huge denial to be very honest with you, she was pissed at us. And she thought that we had tainted her drug test. I was like, 'Yeah so someone else went and peed in your cup and we just brought it out here.' And so, it was sad."

"And then she said she wanted to fight me so I was like, 'You know I trained for 'Kill Bill' right?'" she continued.
"[Abraham] tried to knock out a water bottle and her thumb was out with the punch. So bad," Fox said appearing to reference an Instagram video the former reality star posted in response to the incident.
The "Two Can Play That Game" star went on to add, "But you know I pray for Farrah and I hope she gets better especially because she's got a young daughter."

If you recall, the former "Teen Mom OG" star went ballistic after failing the drug test. Abraham was so heated, she blasted Fox and the show before the episode even aired.

Meghan McCain Slams 'Cowardly' Republicans as 'The View' Rips Donald Trump's 'Racist' and 'Dangerous' Tweets
It was a rare moment of total agreement on 'The View,' as they all unloaded on POTUS. Meghan McCain came out swinging against her own party on "The View" Monday morning, criticizing Republicans for not speaking out against Donald Trump's weekend tweets, which have since won him the Twitter nickname "Racist President" and "Racist In Chief."

INCYMI: Trump told four Democratic congresswomen to "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came" (see full thread at the bottom of this post). His comments were in reference to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Tashida Talib and Rep. Ayanna Pressley -- who were all born in the states -- and Rep. Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia but became a naturalized citizen in her teens.
"It's deeply xenophobic and racist on a number of different levels," said McCain this morning. "My sister was not born in this country, my sister wasn't born here, she's as American in every way as I am and everybody else."

While McCain said Trump could have made "legitimate criticisms" of this group of women, which Meghan herself has done on the morning show, he instead made it "about race, about racism and it's all these old racist dogwhistles that have plagued this country for so long."
"For me, as the conservative representative on this show, I was so upset ... this is what people think all conservatives are now and we are not," she continued. She then told her more liberal cohosts to "have a free for all" on the Republican party.

"The cowardice I'm seeing, Republicans not speaking out today, is embarrassing," she added. "It can't be just me and Geraldo. It is very petrifying that there is not one sitting member of Congress that will come out against this."
Joy Behar thanked McCain for not drinking the Kool-Aid, adding that the "Republican leadership is disgraceful right now."
"This is very dangerous," added Whoopi Goldberg. "You don't want to be telling people to go back to their country, because if we gotta go, you're going too. If you're not Native American, you don't belong here either. They're the first Americans. The rest of us, whether we got here on top of the boat or beneath the boat, we all got there from somewhere else. Don't do this again."

Sunny Hostin was also discouraged by the sheer number of people who liked Trump's tweets, asking "what does that say about those people and the people we live with every day in our country?"
She also admitted she was shocked to hear such "hurtful" comments coming from the President of the United States.
