The Daily Buzz For July 7

Spider-Man Relaxes In A Web Hammock for Homecoming EW Cover
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland can be seen snapping a selfie on a web hammock in a new cover for EW. The 21-year-old British actor has generated considerable buzz for his turn as a high school-aged Peter Parker, who will deal with coming-of-age themes as much as he will deal with battling Vulture (Michael Keaton) and other enemies as the titular hero. The early critical reaction to Homecoming has been hugely positive, praising its blend of fast-paced action and humor.

Ultimately, Holland’s 15-year-old version of Parker is still just a kid, and he seems to act like it in Homecoming. He views Spider-Man’s powers as not a burden but something he should embrace and enjoy. The end result is a very high Rotten Tomatoes score and perhaps the most fun Spider-Man movie yet. The marketing and promotion for Homecoming has been similarly fun, and the latest cover of EW featuring Holland is no exception.
EW revealed on Thursday the new cover, which is marked with Homecoming’s official release date of July 7. You can check out the cover below. The accompanying story describes Holland’s Peter Parker as “not a dude worried about danger, or grappling with larger existential questions about great power and responsibility,” but “a kid who is ready to have a good time” due to his “amazing” new abilities and “souped-up” new suit designed by Tony Stark
Holland is depicted in his Spidey suit, unmasked as he relaxes high above New York City on a hammock made from Spider-Man’s own webs. He’s snapping a selfie as the cover teases the inside cover story through a series of faux-text messages. EW teases the inside story of how Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and then-co-chairperson of Sony Pictures Amy Pascal came together to bring Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

At the top of the EW story is a video in which Holland responds to Chris Hemsworth’s viral Avengers: Infinity War video. It’s just another indication of the youthful exuberance that Holland brought to Parker for Homecoming. As a result of Holland’s take on Parker and director Jon Watts’ fresh injection of fun into the franchise, the newest Spider-Man reboot may have a chance to be the most successful installment yet.

Homecoming may be billed as one of the most enjoyable entries yet in the MCU, but its lighter tone and reliance on humor could also turn off some viewers who actually prefer a more conflicted, burdened version of the character. But Spider-Man has always had a strong sense of humor anyway, and the early reviews for Spider-Man: Homecoming indicate that Holland and Watts have delivered enough laughs and thrills to make the movie a huge hit.

#EMPIRE: Empire Star Grace Byers Reveals She Was Bullied as a Child
She goes toe to toe (and sometimes blow to blow) with Taraji P. Henson on Empire, but in reality, actress Grace Byers couldn’t be more different than her TV character Anika Lyon.

Instead of noisy bluster, the actress, 32, prefers the hard-fought quiet confidence she has after overcoming childhood bullying. Growing up with deaf parents, Byers, who was raised in the Cayman Islands, recalls early classmate questions like, “‘Why does your mom sound like that? Why does she talk with her hands? Why can’t she hear?'” That lead to taunting, Byers says. “Kids lashed out. That was a very difficult time and it was hard for me to assimilate to the fact that I was coming from a deaf culture household.”
The writers and editors behind Time's annual list of The 100 Most Influential People explain the process of selecting those who are having the greatest impact on the planet.
“I remember being very angry with my mother and wanting her to not sign so largely in public or when she spoke, not make so much noise because she sounded differently from everybody else.”
Now Byers is sharing the lessons she learned from that experience in a new children’s book called I Am Enough, collaborating with artist Keturah A. Bobo. The idea came when a literary agent asked her, “If you had a message for your eight-year old self, what would it be?” Byers responded, “I really think that I would tell her that she’s enough.”
Byers credits her mom with teaching her to stand up to bullies. “I’m so grateful that my mother was so adamant in being like, ‘No, this is who I am and I can’t change that and people are gonna have to accept that,” she recalls. “Her indomitable spirit was amazing and really inspired a strength and calmness as I continued to grow.”

The real change came in her late 20s, after a serious car accident left Byers bedridden for two weeks. She says, “I realized I had the gift of being alive. I felt like ‘Wow, I’m here for a reason. We are worthy, we are enouh, because we have been given life.’ That was a turning point.”
These days her biggest champion is her husband and costar Trai Byers, who she married in April 2016. “I’m gonna go ahead and boast about him,” she says happily. “He’ll say, ‘Grace, you are more than enough. You are talented, you are powerful, you can do anything. I believe in you.’ I just feel like he’s love personified truly.”

I Am Enough, published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins, is set for release March 6, 2018.

#MUSICVAULT Thursday Throwback—Anita Baker
It was thirty eight ago when a small record label released an album entitled The Songstress, marking the solo debut of singer Anita Baker.  At that time, Baker had been a member the Detroit-based group Chapter 8 for several years, singing on the group’s self-titled debut album in 1979.  Naturally, she enlisted her fellow band members to produce her solo debut; although The Songstress wasn’t a commercial success by industry standards, the singles “Angel” (which made it to number five on the R&B chart) and “You’re The Best Thing Yet” became requested favorites on quiet storm radio shows across the country and gained Baker somewhat of a cult following.

Three years later, Baker signed with Elektra Records and teamed up with producer and Chapter 8 co-founder Michael J. Powell to release Rapture, featuring the singles “Caught Up In The Rapture”, “Same Ole Love”, “No One In The World”, and the biggest hit from the album, “Sweet Love”.  At a time when the charts were dominated by female artists like Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Patti Labelle, Anita’s sultry contralto was definitely not the norm for mainstream radio…and the public loved it.  The album made it to number two on the R&B chart and number eleven on the pop chart and earned Baker two Grammy Awards.  Future albums Compositions, Giving You The Best That I’ve Got, and Rhythm of Love also boasted singles that hit the charts, earning her more Grammys and American Music Awards as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.   Anita Baker received a “Legend Award” at the 2010 Soul Train Music Awards

Lets take a quick trip down memory lane

Loves Anita.

But she has announced her retirement in 2016. Hoepfully she will at least come back with one more for good times sake!

#HIPHOPNEWS: Lil Wayne Says Birdman, Universal Music Group Joined Forces to Screw Him
It looks like the on-going legal battle between Lil Wayne & Birdman just took an interesting turn of events today. Weezy is claiming Birdman & Universal Music Group were in cahoots with one another to screw him out of millions of dollars TMZ has learned.

Wayne's lawyer, Howard King, filed documents saying Birdman and Universal backdated a deal to make it look like it was signed before Young Money's deal ran out. In the docs TMZ obtained, Wayne's camp says Universal knew that backdating the deals would screw Lil Wayne out of profits from Young Money and the artists signed under his label, ie. Drake & Nicki Minaj.

If you remember, Wayne sued Universal last year claiming UMG advanced Cash Money $100 million but he never got his cut. However as this reports states, Wayne thinks Birdman and Universal were working together to squeeze him out of his royalties.
This reports coincidentally surfaces just hours after Tunechi released a new 4-track EP for fans simply called In Tune We Trust, which finds him remixing Playboi Carti's hit single "Magnolia." Check that out right here & we''ll continue to keep you updated on the Weezy x Birdman saga moving forward.

Oh? Chilli from TLC Reveals Her Celebrity Crush Is Chris Pine: 'I'm So on the Market'
Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas is single and ready to mingle — and she’s got a type!

“I want a rumor to be out there that Chris Pine and I had a baby!” the TLC singer — who with Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins just released a new self-titled TLC album — says of the Wonder Woman actor, 36, in the new issue of PEOPLE. “Let’s start that rumor: ‘Chilli and Chris Pine are expecting!’ And if anybody asked me, I would just be really quiet and be like, ‘Hey, I’m not saying anything.’”

Thomas, 46, has previously been linked to TLC producer Dallas Austin (with whom she shares son Tron, 20), Usher and Nick Cannon.
But these days, “I’m so on the market,” says Thomas, who is on the I Love the ’90s Tour this summer with TLC. “I’m not looking, but I’m definitely open to it for sure. We all want it, if it’s right; we all would love to have a good, healthy relationship.”

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson is arrested after 'he backed his truck into a woman and threatened a man with a rifle'
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson has been arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he was accused of backing his truck into a woman and threatening a man with a rifle during a dispute with some tailgaters.
Frisco police said Wilson was arrested Tuesday outside of Toyota Stadium during the city's Fourth of July celebration.
Wilson was apparently looking for a place to park when he got into an argument with a group of tailgaters who were taking up several spots, KRLD-AM reported.

Major League Soccer's FC Dallas played Tuesday night at the stadium in Frisco, a suburb north of Dallas that's also home to the Cowboys' practice facility.
A police report said Wilson, 24, 'intentionally' backed into the woman while parking and brandished a rifle at a man, 'causing him to be in fear,' The Dallas Morning News reported.
He was was released from jail after posting $20,000 bond and the case remains under investigation.
Authorities declined to release more details on what led to his arrest but said no one else was taken into custody. Police also did not say whether the woman was injured.
Convictions on second-degree felonies, which include aggravated assault, could result in two to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to a $10,000.

Wilson is entering his third season with the Cowboys.

Andrew Garfield: "I Am a Gay Man Right Now Just Without the Physical Act"
Andrew Garfield is making headlines for his latest comments regarding same-sex relationships.
While supporting his part in Tony Kushner's play Angels in America, the actor found himself discussing his character who struggles between his Jewish faith and homosexuality.

During the panel discussion, Andrew revealed that he prepared for the role by watching episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race.

"Every Sunday I would have eight friends over and we would just watch Ru," Andrew explained via OUT. "I mean every single series of RuPaul's Drag Race. I mean every series. This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act—that's all."

The statement quickly received many reactions from fans online. At the same time, the actor later made it clear that he is not gay.
"As far as I know, I am not a gay man," Andrew said. "Maybe I'll have an awakening later in my life, which I'm sure will be wonderful and I'll get to explore that part of the garden, but right now I'm secluded to my area, which is wonderful, as well."

He continued, "I adore it, but a big concern was what right do I have to play this wonderful gay role?...It was about doing honor, doing justice."

Angels in America is a 1993 play about the AIDS crisis and other LGBT issues. Andrew himself plays Prior Walter, a character struggling with the reality of battling AIDS.
Regardless of what followers think of Andrew's latest statements, the actor is very grateful to take on a role that has become "the most fulfilling creative experience."
"It's the most costly thing on the body and on the soul we've ever done personally… and I will say it's the most fulfilling creative experience I'll ever hope to have," he shared via Gay Times.

"I don't think it can get better than this in terms of everything," Andrew continued. "Communion with the audience–us all going through the same things together and how prevalent and how necessary it is to tell this story right now. "

FOX Developing New Singing Competition To Rival ‘The Voice’ & ‘American Idol’
Just because it canceled American Idol after 15 seasons and passed on the reboot doesn’t mean FOX wants to abandon the genre entirely. The network is developing a new singing competition that will rival ABC’s Idol revival and NBC’s The Voice.

Deadline reports FOX, like it did with Idol, is bringing in an existing worldwide format and reappropriating it for American viewers. Israeli producer-distributor Armoza Formats launched The Final Four earlier this year.

When it airs on FOX, it’ll have a new name so not to confuse viewers with NCAA’s March Madness tournament. Unlike existing singing competitions, the series will eliminate those sometimes annoying auditions. The show will begin with four finalists picked by the show’s judges. Each week, new competitors are introduced who will attempt to dethrone one of the finalists. “We start with the best and only get better,” the show’s tagline boasts.

“The Final Four is a new take on the singing competition genre, bringing all the most loved elements of music shows to the table and serving only the best of them in a way that has never been seen before. And because of its unique structure, any viewer who thinks they’re good enough to challenge one of the finalists can do so through the app at any time, involving the audience throughout the season,” said Avi Armoza, CEO of Armoza Formats, in a statement.

What do you think of this format? Can it rival The Voice? Will it reach the heights of Idol?
