A Black LGBT Couple was ATTACKED in The West Village NYC!

A 350-pound brute hurled slurs at a gay man and his transgender girlfriend and then whipped out a razor and slashed one of them at a crime-plagued McDonald’s in Greenwich Village, police said.

Jamar McLeod, 24, said he and his girlfriend, Jalisa “JoJo” Griffen had just picked up her hormone medicine Wednesday night and were headed back to their apartment in Bushwick when they ducked into the fast food joint on W. Third St. to use the bathroom.

McLeod, who is 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds, was holding hands with Griffen, who was wearing a tight-fitting pair of sweatpants and sweatshirt. The suspect, who was waiting for his cheeseburger around 7 p.m., apparently overheard them talking about gay bashing.

 “The conversation we were having was already about trouble in the gay community — how many of our friends got jumped just for being gay,” McLeod said.

Their attacker likely wouldn’t have realized Griffen was transgender if they had been discussing a different topic, McLeod said.

The backpack-wearing bully clad in a plaid shirt began to relentlessly taunt Griffen.

“The guy started starts calling us f----, saying he can’t stand gay people,” Griffen said.

McLeod leapt to his girlfriend’s defense.

“Leave it alone man, everyone has got their own thing,” he recalled saying.

But the suspect wouldn’t back off, and as Griffen went into the women’s bathroom he told her she should use the men’s room.

“You’re using the wrong bathroom!” the suspect hollered, according to a police source.

McLeod said the big-bellied ogre then threatened to beat up his girlfriend. “No, you're going to fight me, you’re not going to lay your hands on her,” he countered.

The suspect said he would take him up on his offer, but was going to get his cheeseburger first.

McLeod and Griffen took that as an opportunity to leave, but the suspect followed them, ignoring his meal.

In front of the McDonald’s the suspect took a swing at McLeod, who, using his boxing skills, was able to dodge it.

McLeod pummeled the hatemonger and kneed him in the groin, making him fall to the ground. When the bully got back up, he had a razor. And attacked him by slashing him. 

24-year-old Jamar McLeod told Eyewitness News he was uncomfortable talking on-camera about what happened to him, how he was attacked, both verbally and physically.

But he and his girlfriend agreed their story was an important one to tell, how deep seeded hatred can be so dangerous. His scars were caused by hate.

Doctors used stitches to close Jamar McLeod's wounds to his neck and elbow.

The gash on his face shows just how close his attacker came to cutting his neck.

"If it could have been a couple inches over, God forbid he could have hit my jugular vein and I could have been dead," McLeod said.

"He sliced me in the back of the neck, and then when I backed up a bit, he sliced me on my face," McLeod said.NYPD Hate Crimes is leading the investigation.

They say the suspect is a black male around 35 to 40 years old, about 5'10", and between 300 and 350 pounds.

While his weapon was sharp, McLeod says the man's words hurt just as much. "We're all human beings. It doesn't matter what sexuality what race, we're just human beings, so you should be able to respect the person for who he is," McLeod said.

This is the same McDonald's where a year ago an employee and a customer brawled behind the counter.

The owner has since added more security and cameras and has closed the upstairs portion at night.
