#MAGFAB: Beyonce Knowles Carter for GQ Magazine "The Business of Being Beyoncé Knowles-Carter"
The Hollywood profile has seen better days. Typically it's little more than a written commercial for an A-lister or rising star's personal brand. But sometimes, as with the new Beyoncé profile in GQ magazine, all pretense is dropped. The only way to get a global superstar like Bey now is through an opportunity to sell a new product to a specified target audience, in this case men between the ages of 30-45 who might be interested in her new whiskey brand.

While some might categorize this as "shameless" or even "unethical," the chance to nab a Beyoncé cover is too enticing for the current iteration of GQ to pass on, even if it means agreeing to conduct the interview not in person, or even on Zoom, but over email. To read this Q&A is to wonder who or what even constitutes the Beyoncé on the other side of the computer. Many of her responses could kindly be called wooden, or more accurately described as affectless, PR-officiated, post-human babble that at times feels indistinguishable from ChatGPT. For example, here are GQ's question in bold and then the answer from "Beyoncé":

This spring, you released a new album. And I have a lot of questions about that and how it connects to your past work. But first I want to start with the new, new thing. Whiskey. I guess I’m wondering…why liquor?

I’ll never forget the first day I had whiskey. It spoke to me nice. I remember thinking, Why have I never had this before? It was strong and warm, just the right amount of challenge. I loved the process, the ritual of it. Whiskey isn’t something you just shoot down. It’s a commitment. You gotta have patience. I like that. Then I got into vintage Japanese whiskey and started doing tastings. It opened up a whole new world. I love everything about whiskey. The color, the smell, the way it dances in the glass.… And I love the stories that come with it. Every bottle has a history. I also like introducing whiskey to people who don’t know they love it yet. I think a lot more women would love it if they tasted it, and if they were really spoken to by the whiskey world.
This is familiar stuff to anyone who's had to read a million press releases for celebrity-sponsored brand partnerships: lots of words linked in idea-shaped sentences which sometimes mean something, but often mean nothing. "I’ll never forget the first day I had whiskey. It spoke to me nice." I don't know what that means, but it sounds provocative. There's plenty of this kind of copywriterly ad-speak throughout:

What has your experience been like, as a Black woman, in business spaces that some might have assumed you wouldn’t thrive in?

There’s a huge contrast between the business journeys of men and women. Men often have the luxury of being perceived as the strategists, the brains behind their ventures. They’re given the space to focus on the product, the team, the business plan. Women, on the other hand, especially those in the limelight, are frequently pigeonholed into being the face of the brand or the marketing tool. It’s important to me to continue to take the same approach I have taken with my music and apply my learnings to my businesses.
I am here to change that old narrative. I’m here to focus on the quality. We took our time, and we did our research, and we have earned respect for our brand. I try to choose integrity over shortcuts. I’ve learned that true success isn’t about leaning on a name; it’s about crafting something genuine, something that can hold its own. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being revolutionary.

There's nothing in the answers that sound like a real person is responding to anything. It's carefully curated language to accentuate Beyoncé as superstar and corporation, every sentence heightened to better advertise the product. Even on questions that attempt to be more direct, "Beyoncé" dances around it to stay general and unspecific.

Cowboy Carter was the second album in a planned trilogy that you started two years ago with Renaissance. What sparked this grand idea to do a trilogy of records, each exploring different genres?

I started Cowboy Carter almost five years ago. Pay close attention to my age in the lyrics of “16 Carriages.”

From the start of my career and on every album, I have always mixed genres. Whether it is R&B, Dance, Country, Rap, Zydeco, Blues, Opera, Gospel, they have all influenced me in some way. I have favorite artists from every genre you could think about. I believe genres are traps that box us in and separate us. I’ve experienced this for 25 years in the music industry. Black artists, and other artists of color, have been creating and mastering multiple genres, since forever.

It's a testament to where we've gotten, both in celebrity and media, that the guaranteed success of Beyoncé on the cover of your magazine is more worthwhile than an in-depth and probing article. In an emailed format, each question more or less serves as a prompt for a semi-related essay. There's nothing any writer could ask Bey that would be new or intriguing, because she won't allow for that. But it's amusing that from GQ's perspective, a magazine cover—an honor that celebrities and their handlers used to fight for—can be dedicated to the shilling of a celebrity liquor business. Lest you think it's all robotic brand management, she did offer some "personal tastemaking":

What is currently inspiring you in music and film? What’s the best thing you’ve heard in 2024?
I love and respect all of the female singers-songwriters who are out right now.… Raye, Victoria Monét, Sasha Keable, Chloe x Halle, and Reneé Rapp. I love Doechii and GloRilla, and I just heard That Mexican OT, he’s from Houston…. He goes hard! I really like “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, and I think that Thee Sacred Souls and Chappell Roan are talented and interesting. I’m obsessed with my backseat baby.... I’m a Smiler.

But the truth is, I spend most of my time listening to the classics, like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and music from artists on the Stax label. I just watched that documentary. It’s so good! I highly recommend it. The best movie I’ve seen this year is Inside Out 2. I think it’s brilliant, and I’m currently watching House of the Dragon and The Chi.

This feels as genuine and specific as a Barack Obama summer reading list. Maybe next time, GQ will let us know 10 things David Zaslav can't live without. Whatever helps the bottom line.

#RIP:Legendary R&B artist, native Philadelphian Frankie Beverly dies at 77

R&B musician and native Philadelphian Frankie Beverly has passed away at the age of 77.
Music fans both here in Philadelphia and around the world have reason to mourn on Wednesday as legendary R&B artist, songwriter and producer, Frankie Beverly has died.

He was 77 years old. On Wednesday morning, Beverly's family announced the founder of the funk and soul band Maze -- who was born Howard Stanley Beverly -- passed away the day before.

"Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience. During this time, as we are navigating feelings of sorrow, reflection, and remembrance we kindly ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own way," the family wrote in a message online. "This period for is one of healing, and your respect for our need for solitude is appreciated as we honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly known to the world as Frankie Beverly."
The family's statement continued to say that Beverly "lived his life with pure soul as one would say, and for us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, family and friends. Love one another as he would want that for us all."
Beverly was born in Philadelphia and attended Germantown High School in his youth.
According to NBC10's newsgathering partner, the Philadelphia Tribune, his musical career began when he founded the Blenders before moving on the record several songs with the Butlers.

"After catching the attention of legendary songwriter and producer Kenny Gamble, the group had several releases under Philly-based record label Cameo Parkway," wrote Tribune correspondent O.J. Spivey on Beverly's beginnings after the musician was recently honored by having the 6000 block of Norwood Street in Germantown named in his honor.

After moving to the west coast, Beverly's group changed their name Raw Soul and then to Maze, who Beverly went on to release nine gold albums with.
Earlier this year, after performing and touring for 50 years, Beverly played a farewell show at the Dell Music Center in North Philadelphia.

His family has not detailed Beverly's cause of death.

#RHOA: Bravo & ‘Real Housewives Of Atlanta’ Alum Nene Leakes To Join Ariana Madix For E!’s Emmys After Party Special
Nene Leakes is returning to the NBCUniversal mix as a Live From E!: Emmy After Party presenter.
The former Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) and Bravo star will join Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix and E! News‘ Justin Sylvester to give their takes on the biggest moments and snubs from the Primetime Emmys.

Leakes, Madix, and Sylvester will go live on E! at 11 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. PT.

For the RHOA alum, her appearance on E! is a return to the NBCU family following her lawsuit against Bravo and Andy Cohen, in which she claimed a hostile and racist environment. Leakes dropped the lawsuit in August 2022.
The former RHOA star is one of the franchise’s most recognizable personalities, and amid the cast shakeup and Kenya Moore’s exit, fans have advocated for her return.
In August 2023, Leakes said she had no hard feelings against Cohen and was open to returning to RHOA.

“I don’t have any hard feelings,” Leakes said about Cohen in an interview on the Reality with the King podcast. “I’m a Sagittarius. So at some point, I may be mad with you, but then I get over it. I’m not the kind of girl that carries a grudge or hold[s] the grudge forever. I’m also not [an] ass kisser.”

She continued, “I hate that we’re in this place. I really wish it was a way for us to find our way back to each other because, you know, life is short and you just don’t want to carry ill feelings for the rest of your life. You don’t have to work together to do anything. But it would be nice to either just to just work through the issues.”
On returning to RHOA, Leakes said in 2023, “If I had to go back it will be 100% for the fans. The check is not a bad check although I think my check should be bigger… the check is not a bad check.”

Leakes most recently appeared on Lifetime, starring in the clip show Outrageous Love with Nene Leakes, in which she gave her hot takes on couples’ love lives.

#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj Clarifies Her Super Bowl LIX Rant Wasn’t Meant To Disrespect Kendrick Lamar
Nicki Minaj wants everyone to know that defending Lil Wayne doesn’t mean she’s dismissing Kendrick Lamar, especially after her fiery comments about the Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show headliner decision.
“You can love and respect Kendrick and still love and respect Wayne. Even Kendrick loves and respects Wayne. Every real rapper loves and respects Wayne,” she clarified on Monday (Sept. 9) evening.

In Minaj’s initial rant, she accused JAY-Z and Roc Nation of “punishing” Lil Wayne out of disdain for herself, Drake and Birdman, who also had some words of his own. Many fans felt the “Lollipop” hitmaker would’ve been the best pick for the upcoming Super Bowl’s location, with others saying Lamar was chosen off the strength of May’s “Not Like Us.”

Shortly after, a Twitter user accused Minaj of backtracking after getting pushback from her label, Republic Records. The Pink Friday creator explained that she always speaks her mind: “If they did call me, I [definitely] didn’t get the call, [child]. Maybe they left a [voicemail]. You must [really] not know Oniqua hungry pie.”
She continued, “This [really] just shows that you’re caged and have never been able to simply do and say as you please [without] any fear — other than the fear of God — stopping you.”

Minaj also didn’t miss the opportunity to promote her “Pink Friday 2 World Tour.” The trek landed in Washington, D.C., on Monday night and will resume with stops in Cleveland, Birmingham, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas before the month is up. Tyga, Skillibeng and BIA are expected to join her on select stops.
Friday (Sept. 13) will also mark the release of Pink Friday 2: Gag City Reloaded. In a recent TikTok Live, Minaj teased that the project could contain fan-favorite leaks and a few “surprise features.” Unfortunately, she hasn’t shared the official tracklist just yet.

Taylor Swift Immediately Makes Trump’s Terrible Debate Night Way Worse

It’s official: Childless Cat Lady Taylor Swift is voting for Kamala Harris.
The pop superstar managed to completely erase all buzz around the presidential debate Tuesday night by coming out in favor of the Democratic nominee. She shared a post on her Instagram, alongside a photo of herself with one of her cats.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most,” Swift wrote.
She slammed Donald Trump for creating a weird A.I. version of the singer and making the fake Swift endorse Trump. The real Swift cited this moment as one of the reasons she decided to be “very transparent” about her voting plans.

“The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” she said.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
Swift urged her fans to register to vote and to vote early, and included information for how to do both in her Instagram story. She then cheekily signed her post,
Harris (as well as her predecessor on the Democratic ticket Joe Biden) and Trump have been vying for Swift’s endorsement. In addition to being a musical powerhouse and an elite NFL WAG (wife and girlfriend), Swift has proven herself to be an influential political voice in recent years. In October, Swift posted on Instagram for National Voter Registration Day, resulting in more than 35,000 new voter registrations—a 23 percent increase compared to the same day the year before.

Chloe Bailey Applauded For Protecting Her Peace Despite Being Labeled 'Boring'

Chloe Bailey has revealed that some online haters called her "boring." While giving her response to the negative comments, the one half of musical duo Chloe x Halle candidly shared that she has been protecting her peace.
During a recent Instagram Live, the 26-year-old singer/actress admitted to getting hurt by the "boring" label. Speaking to her viewers, she said, "I saw multiple tweets today - that hurt my feelings - talking about how boring of an individual I am. And I was like, 'I'm boring?' "

Chloe went on to explain, "Boring is good, right? I stay to myself. The reason I stay to myself is because this industry is crazy. And if I was so mixy, I would have self identity issues. Like, you have to stay to yourself, you have to keep your circle small to save yourself."
The "Boy Bye" singer then stressed, "Nobody knows how crazy this industry is. If you all knew what I have been through and knew the stories, you would be surprised that I'm still even doing this. So, I have to be boring for my mental health."

Chloe further asked, "I can never do enough. I do a bunch of press, I do these, and I'm boring? 'Cause I keep certain things hidden and private?" She continued, "I don't do drugs, I don't do anything like that, I'd much rather be boring," before adding, "Yeah, I'm boring but it's not a bad thing. I'd just stay with myself, with my family."

After sharing her responses, Chloe received support from many Instagram users. In the comments section of a post featuring short clips from the livestream, one in particular gushed, " 'Boring' women are the best women." Similarly, another chimed in, "If boring means being NORMAL then wear that badge loud & proud Chloe."
A third exclaimed, "It NEVER GAVE BORING! She's always seemed kind, funny and hella talented. When you a real one you know you gotta stay out the way to stay out of unnecessary trouble or people getting too familiar with you." A fourth added, "She's literally full of life nothing is boring about her."

Tory Lanez Speaks Up After Prison Cell Was Raided
Tory Lanez has announced that his "Prison Tapes" series has been suspended "until further notice." In a statement posted on Instagram, Lanez revealed that his cell was raided and his audio recording equipment confiscated by prison guards.
Lanez claims that his cell was not raided because he violated prison rules by recording music but because prison authorities realized the impact of his "Prison Tapes" on inmates. He alleges that he was shut down because the tapes were providing legal assistance to inmates.

Lanez stated that he had gone through the prison system to witness the oppression faced by young black and brown people. He claims to have developed a plan to use his music to provide legal aid to fellow inmates.
According to Lanez, he has already provided legal representation for 472 inmates and reopened 476 cases with the help of the legal firm Unite the People. He described this effort as "The Hands of God Project".

In July, Lanez announced that he had found a way to record music from behind bars and promised to release weekly music. He has since released numerous singles, including "580 Benz", "F&V" and "Cell 245".
Lanez expressed his determination to continue his mission despite the raid and confiscation. He warned that if anything happened to him, it would be because he was trying to "revolutionize the end of a mass incarceration era."

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for his involvement in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. He was found guilty on three charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Lanez has requested a new trial based on an affidavit from his driver but has been denied.

The rapper, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, previously appeared opposite Brad Pitt in 2022’s Bullet Train. 50 Cent Files Motion to Dismiss Defamation Lawsuit Against Ex Daphne Joy

50 Cent reportedly wants to drop his lawsuit against ex, Daphne Joy.In May, Fifty sued Joy, with whom he shares 12-year-old son, Sire, for defamation and sought over $1 million in damages over an Instagram post she made in March in which she accused him of raping and physically abusing her.

"I am tired of upholding and protecting an image to our son that you have never even earned," Joy wrote at the time. "Let's put the real focus on your true evil actions of raping me and physically abusing me. You are no longer my oppressor and my God will handle you from this point on.
"The most recent false and baseless accusations by Daphne Joy are clearly in response to my decision to seek sole custody of my son. My son Sire is my main priority and keeping…
According to newly filed legal documents reviewed by TMZ, the 49-year-old entertainment mogul asked a judge to dismiss the suit without prejudice.

This development follows Joy’s removal of the accusatory post from her Instagram account in July. A source told TMZ at the time Joy's action was "an attempt to smooth things over” with the Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ rapper, who had previously filed for sole custody of their son after Joy was named as an alleged sex worker in Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones’ lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Joy and Fifty dated between 2011 and 2012 but kept their relationship mostly private. Fif welcomed his first child, Marquise Jackson, with Shaniqua Tompkins in 1996, per People.

TMZ also reports that while the judge has yet to sign off on 50 Cent’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit, it is expected to be a mere formality at this point.

Diddy Plans To Fight $100 Million Default Judgment Awarded To Alleged Sexual Assault Victim

However, the record executive is now ready to push back against the verdict. In a statement shared with TMZ, attorneys for Diddy claimed,
“This man [Cardello-Smith] is a convicted felon and sexual predator, who has been sentenced on 14 counts of sexual assault and kidnapping over the last 26 years. His resume now includes committing a fraud on the court from prison, as Mr. Combs has never heard of him let alone been served with any lawsuit. Mr. Combs looks forward to having this judgment swiftly dismissed.”

Candace Owens’ YouTube Account Suspended Following Kanye West Interview
*Candace Owens‘ YouTube account has been suspended for a week due to her interview with Kanye West.
In the post shared with her 5.5 million followers on X, Owens wrote, “There will be no show today, or at all this week. That’s because @YouTube has issued me a strike and a one week suspension for my sit down with Kanye.”

“They also removed the interview as “hate speech”, as it was mass reported by Zionists,” she explained, adding, “Their tactics never change.”
Candace included a screenshot of the message from YouTube that said the Ye video “violated our hate speech policy” because the rapper suggested that “Jewish people control the media.”

Owens and Ye have been repeatedly falsely accused of antisemitism.
Owens shared the Ye interview on X on Sept. 10, writing, “Here is the Youtube-censored interview with Ye, which was mass reported by
@awesomejew and his radical followers. Have a listen to it and let me know if you agree with Youtube’s assessment that this conversation represents hate directed at a protected class. Enjoy!”

Thus far, I have had zero strikes on my @YouTubeCreators account. I have now been inundated with 3 back to back content hits within minutes, plus an email that I am now fully demonetized.
Many of Owens’ supporters have come to her defense, criticizing the suspension as censorship.
On X, popular content creator Ian Carroll wrote, “Freedom of speech unless you report on Israel and evil elite psychopaths. YouTube and google should be [investigated] for acting on behalf of a foreign nation.”

Another X user posted, “You need to get off YouTube. Everyone does. It’s ridiculous that conservatives still use that platform knowing they censor as they do.”
A third added, “If Candace were to address behaviors and activities within the Black community, she would likely be met with applause rather than demonetization or content removal. This clearly illustrates the double standard in our discourse, where certain groups face little to no scrutiny while others are shielded from criticism.”

According to Owens, the X account @JewsAreTheGOAT is behind “the mass reporting campaign” against her Ye interview and other clips of her criticizing Zionist Jews.

Lee Daniels Reveals ‘Monster’s Ball’ Was Financed with ‘Drug Money’

*Lee Daniels revealed in a new interview that the majority of his movies have all been independently financed through his company, with “Monster’s Ball” notably funded using “drug money.”

“Every film of mine has been independent,” Daniels told The Film Stage “All of my sh*t is independent. You know, my first movie was developed with drug money. Monster’s Ball. We won the first Black woman an Oscar [Halle Berry]. Every one of my films has been independently financed where I’m able to.”

In a 2019 interview with MSNBC, Daniels said his decision to form his own production “started out because I was a manager, and I could not find employment for the African-American actors that I was working for.”
He added, “Literally, and I can’t believe I’m saying this in my lifetime, they were just pimps, they were just prostitutes, they were drug addicts, and those were the opportunities that were available to us as people of color… I couldn’t find employment for these actors as a manager, so I said, ‘Let me change it up so I can create opportunity.'”

Daniels’ latest movie is the new Netflix horror “The Deliverance.” The film is inspired by a true story and centers on Ebony Jackson (Andra Day), a struggling single mother fighting personal demons, who moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children.
The movie reimagines the events described by Latoya Ammons and the demonic experiences in her family’s Indiana home in 2011. Indianapolis Star detailed her story in a 2014 article.

Glenn Close also stars in “The Deliverance” along with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Mo’Nique. The supernatural horror is available to stream on Netflix and is currently the most-watched title on the platform.
“I feel like we’re in dark times. And for me, it was about finding my higher power. It was about finding Jesus again for me,” Daniels said in August during a panel discussion at The Whitby Hotel in New York. “I don’t know whether or not we’re going to be around tomorrow. I’m trying to scare you to your higher power, be it Allah or Buddha. For me, it’s Jesus Christ.”

He added, “It’s also about Black women never being believed. She’s never believed. And so, I really wanted to drive that home. Even her Black social worker didn’t believe her.

Miami-Dade Police Identify Officer Danny Torres in Controversial Traffic Stop with Tyreek Hill
Miami-Dade Police have identified Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran, as one of the officers involved in a controversial traffic stop with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Torres remains on administrative duty as an investigation continues.

The altercation occurred near Hard Rock Stadium, where Hill was pulled over for speeding at 60 mph in a pedestrian area and not wearing a seat belt. Bodycam footage shows Hill raising his window after a tense exchange with officers. When Hill asked for his ticket and rolled up his window, officers escalated the situation. Torres and another officer forcibly removed Hill from his car, threw him to the ground, handcuffed him, and placed a knee on his back.
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who arrived at the scene, condemned the officers’ actions as “excessive force and abuse.” He also called for the officers to be fired during an appearance on “The Dan Le Batard Show.

“For me, personally, I believe the police officers that did that to Tyreek shouldn’t be in that position — they should be let go,” Rosenhaus said. “Look at the guy who kicked him — that guy should be fired. That’s out of control. The guy that jumped in and put him in a chokehold? There’s no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that, when Tyreek wasn’t being aggressive or violent or fighting back in any capacity.”

Hill’s attorney stated they are exploring legal options, arguing that Hill posed no threat. Meanwhile, Steadman Stahl, president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, defended the officers, stating Hill’s initial lack of cooperation justified their response for safety reasons.

The officer’s attorneys also called for immediate reinstatement, arguing that his actions were necessary and proportionate.

Family of man killed by DC Police want answers after body cam video is released

DC Police released body camera footage online Monday evening of officers shooting Justin Robinson near a McDonald's in Southeast D.C. earlier this month.
Robinson, 26, was killed on Sept. 1 just after 5:30 a.m., when police responded to a call for a minor crash with an injury in the drive-thru of a McDonald's in Southeast D.C.

Robinson's family originally said they did not want the video released after watching it.
Tralicia, Justin Robinson's sister, told WUSA9 they were hesitant to allow the video to be shown to the public because they had been told it would be redacted.

"We wanted to watch the video ourselves and then be able to tell our own story before the video was redacted," said Tralicia in an interview with WUSA9 Monday night.
"The only redactions in the videos are those that are required by law," said Chief Pamela Smith at a news conference shortly after the video was released Monday night.

She explained the redactions included blurring Justin Robinson's face, and the faces of some of the DC Fire and EMS members who were at the scene.
D.C. officials said over the weekend they were contacted by the family's attorney who said the family had changed their minds and wanted the video released.
The body-worn camera footage was released in two videos, along with a community briefing video that was posted on the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department YouTube page. Both of the videos are just under 20 minutes long and show the point of view of two different officers.

The first video opens inside a patrol car and appears to have no sound for the first two minutes. The video shows the officer parking beside the McDonald's drive-thru lane, behind an ambulance. He looks into the car that appears to have crashed in the drive-thru and speaks into his radio saying, "Suspect has a firearm on his lap."

As more officers arrive, they use patrol cars to box the stopped vehicle. Eventually, armed officers surround the vehicle.
"The officers were clearing the area of any individuals or bystanders they were also using their police vehicle to box in the vehicle and were also attempting to come up with a plan on how to respond or engage when they were notified by the other officers that there was individual movement inside the car," said Chief Smith.

At 13:36 minutes, the body-worn camera video appears to show Robinson grabbing one of the officer's gun before officers began shooting at him. Robinson later died at the scene of the shooting.
The second video gives the view from another officer at the scene as well as the aftermath of the shooting.
"My first reaction was, that was poor tactics. That was my first reaction. Then shock. Then I was met with a little bit of anger and heartbreak," said Tralicia.
She told WUSA9 she didn't understand why the officers approached her brother with guns drawn since the call was initially for an unresponsive person who had crashed.

"Why was there no urgency to render aid to make sure this person was okay," said Tralicia.
She explained that her little brother had always wanted to be a community activist and became a violence interrupter for Cure the Streets.
"He always had a smile. If anyone ever see him and it's time to depart they'll say I love you and he'll say I love you more," she said.
She and the family's attorney questioned the officer's decisions.

"From my watching of the video. Mr. Robinson seems to be waking up. I think he's trying to push a gun away from his face," said Brandon Burrell, the family's attorney.
"He said I'll shoot you in your f---ing face. He was rolling the window down. Why did you place the gun in the window and tell him that? No aid was rendered if you thought that he was slowly waking up all of these things leading up to his death could have been prevented," added Tralicia.

The two officers who shot Robinson have been identified as officers Vasco Mateus and Bryan Gilchrist from the 7th District. Both officers are on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.

UConn Coach Dan Hurley Drops S-Bomb at White House While Celebrating Huskies’ Back-to-Back Titles
Head Coach Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies made their second straight visit to the White House during President Biden‘s ceremony honoring the team. The Huskies defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 75-60 to win their second consecutive title. As they aim to make history with a third straight championship, they welcome a high-level recruiting class, key returnees, and transfers who give them a strong shot at winning another title.
Head Coach Hurley is known for his fiery coaching style and isn’t afraid to push boundaries. Hurley admitted he was just as nervous this year as he was last year, and he expressed it in a way only Dan Hurley can.

“I thought this would be easier, year two,” Hurley said. “Oh man, I’ve been to the White House before. This is scary as sh*t!”
While it might not have been the most polished moment, it was classic Hurley. He also mentioned wearing his “lucky dragon underwear” to the White House. Hurley, a master recruiter, has brought in another top-ten class this year, led by the second-ranked small forward in the class, Liam McNeely. The Huskies have a big year ahead as they look to make history.
