Tyler Perry Speaks to People Magazine from About Racial Injustice and the World He Wants for His Son!
When Tyler Perry was asked by PEOPLE to write an essay about hope and his vision for the future of America, he took an uncharacteristic pause. "I initially said no, and that was strange for me because I’m a man of faith and I believe greatly in hope," Perry says.
"My reluctance wasn’t because I didn’t think it was important, and certainly not that I’m not outraged at the murder of George Floyd and so many others."
"It was simply because I was exhausted," the star explains in what would ultimately become a deeply personal and powerful first-person essay for this week’s cover story.
"I’m exhausted from all the hate and the division, the vitriol that I see online from one to another. I’m exhausted from seeing these kinds of senseless murders play out over and over again with no changes in our society."
In the end, Perry, 50, a big-hearted humanitarian with an unending track record of helping those less advantaged, shared his pain, his thoughts for his 5-year-old son and his hope for a nation seeking change.
“The level of racism and brutality that George Floyd faced is something that we as black people know all too well. When I saw that video, I had so many raw, guttural emotions. I felt for him and his family, I felt for all of us as black people, I felt for my five-year-old son,” he wrote. “As I watched with tears in my eyes, it brought back a flood of years of emotions from carrying what feels like the weight of racism on my neck.”
Channeling his emotions, Perry says, “I dried my eyes and put pen to paper for not only myself, not only for hope, but for morning to come for the millions of us who just want to be treated fairly, for those of us who want justice for all, and for my five-year-old son.”
Perry already knows he will soon have to have tough conversations with his son, Aman, who he shares with partner Gelila.
“I know that as his father, a black man in America, it is my duty to prepare him for the harsh reality that awaits him outside of the watchful eyes of his loving parents,” he writes. “It will be a hard, heartbreaking conversation but one that I must have and will have soon.”
In his essay, which Perry reads aloud for an exclusive video to accompany the PEOPLE cover story, he offers hints of promise for what lies ahead. “I will explain to [Aman] that because we are only 12 to 14 percent of the population, this fight will continue to be a long and arduous one, but I will tell him with pride to never give up. I will tell him that progress is made in small steps and even if you get exhausted to fight on, because there are always signs of daybreak before the morning comes.”
The recorded version of Perry’s essay lasts for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the exact length of time former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin used a knee to pin Floyd by the neck as he died.

In a July 6 post, Dennis shared a photo of Porsha whipping up an absolutely delicious meal for their daughter. If you look closely, you’ll see that Porsha is cooking a stack of adorable, super teeny pancakes for PJ.
“Awww @porsha4real in fully mommy mode making whittle pancakes for my whittle PJ,” he hilariously captioned the post.
Dennis also told The Daily Dish that fatherhood has taught him the lesson of patience... and if a miniature stack of pancakes is any indication, it seems like Porsha has mastered that skill, as well.
“I hope that my kid [and] all kids find their true passion in life and they have the ability to fulfill those passions without the limitations set by the capitalistic society in which we live in,” he continued. “I never want PJ to say, 'Hey, I'm doing this because it makes money,' etc. I want her [and] all kids to say, 'I’m doing this because it makes me happy.'"

In collaboration with Warner Records, The Prince Estate will reissue the late icon’s seminal double album Sign O’ The Times on September 25.
Newly remastered, the 1987 album will be widely available on vinyl and CD. It will also be available on digital and streaming platforms.
The upgraded edition of the urgent album will contain its original material, including the title track and singles such as “U Got the Look” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend.”
including Prince’s only on-stage collaboration with Miles Davis, will be packaged as a Super Deluxe Edition. A DVD will contain the latter rare performance, along with a shelved New Year’s Eve benefit concert at Paisley Park from December 31, 1987.
In addition to the overflow of recordings, a 120-page hardcover book containing Prince’s previously unseen handwritten lyrics for many of the songs from the era will accompany the Super Deluxe Edition.
Fans will get their hands on unseen images taken by the Purple One’s go-to photographer. They’ll also be able to read liner notes by Dave Chappelle, Lenny Kravitz, Susan Rogers, and more.

Young Thug has shared his candid thoughts about a leaked Pop Smoke song featuring himself, Gunna and Pusha-T, in which the Virginia rapper appears to be reigniting his beef with Drake.
Thugger expressed his disapproval of the G.O.O.D. Music president's verse on the track called "Paranoia." "I don't respect the pusha t verse on the song with me and gunna cause I don't have nun to do with y'all beef nor does Gunna, and if I knew that was about him [Drake] I would've made changes on our behalf.. this rapper shit so gay," the ATL native wrote on his Instagram Story.
"Paranoia" began circulating on the internet over the weekend after Pop's posthumous debut album, Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, dropped on Friday (July 3), and the LP did not include the track. "You know reality bites/It's chess not checkers/Those empty threats only sound good on your records/If the patois is not followed by blocka/It's like marked for death Screwface, without the choppa/Let ’em rush the stage when you made like Sinatra," Pusha raps, presumably taking jabs at Drizzy's frequent use of the foreign dialect. He also appears to be referring to a 2018 incident when several men rushed the stage during Pusha's Daytona Tour stop in Toronto amid his beef with Aubrey.

Steven Victor, the head of Victor Victor Worldwide, the label Pop Smoke was signed to prior to his passing, confirmed the track and said it didn't make the cut for the album because of a glitch. He did, however, note that it'll be added to the late Brooklyn drill rapper's LP.

Mary Kay Letourneau Dies at the Age of 58 of Cancer!
The ex-teacher was a controversial figure who gained national notoriety after being jailed for sexually abusing her student then later marrying him
Mary Kay Letourneau, the controversial Washington middle school teacher who began a sexual relationship with student Vili Fualaau, has died of stage 4 cancer, PEOPLE confirms. She was 58.
According to two sources close to Letourneau, she died Monday after quietly battling the disease for several months.
A source close to Letourneau tells PEOPLE that her health began to deteriorate dramatically in recent months. She lost weight and was constantly tired. "It was a very sad ending," the source says.
Her family and the family of her estranged husband Fualaau released a statement on her passing late Tuesday, confirming Letourneau died after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer six months ago.
"Mary fought tirelessly against this terrible disease," the Letourneau and Fualaau families said in a statement provided to writer Danielle Bacher.
"Mary, and all of us, found great strength in having our immediate and extended family members together to join her in this arduous struggle. We did our very best to care for Mary and one another as we kept her close and stayed close together," the statement continued.
Letourneau was a sixth-grade teacher when she began the illegal relationship with Fualaau, who was a student and just 12 years old.
Ultimately, she was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for child rape. She twice became pregnant with Fualaau’s children before he was 15, despite court orders aimed at keeping them apart.
By the time she was released from prison, Fualaau was an adult — and he petitioned the court to allow them to see each other. A restraining order against Letourneau was dropped, but Letourneau remained a registered sex offender in Washington state.
The couple married in 2005, despite the criminal history of their relationship.
But it ultimately didn’t last. Letourneau and Fualaau split in 2017 after Fualaau filed for legal separation.
As the split proceeded, Letourneau and Fualaau still lived together. They were occasionally spotted out in the Seattle area. They both remained active in the lives of their two daughters, Georgia and Audrey.
But despite several reconciliation attempts, the case moved to private arbitration in February 2019. The separation became official late last year and the two began living apart.

The United States is 'looking at' banning TikTok and other Chinese social media apps!
The United States is "looking at" banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday.
Pompeo suggested the possible move during an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham, adding that "we're taking this very seriously."
Pompeo was asked by Ingraham whether the United States should be considering a ban on Chinese social media apps, "especially TikTok."
"With respect to Chinese apps on people's cell phones, I can assure you the United States will get this one right too, Laura," he said. "I don't want to get out in front of the President [Donald Trump], but it's something we're looking at."
Washington's top diplomat added that people should only download the app "if you want your private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party."
"TikTok is led by an American CEO, with hundreds of employees and key leaders across safety, security, product, and public policy here in the US," a TikTok spokesperson said in a statement following Pompeo's comments. "We have no higher priority than promoting a safe and secure app experience for our users. We have never provided user data to the Chinese government, nor would we do so if asked."
Pompeo's remarks come during a time of heightened tensions between the United States and China, which have spilled over into several arenas including national security, trade and technology.
The app has exploded in popularity in the United States and other western countries, becoming the first Chinese social media platform to gain significant traction with users outside of its home country. It was downloaded 315 million times in the first three months of this year, more quarterly downloads than any other app in history, according to analytics company Sensor Tower.
The company has also run into roadblocks elsewhere. Last week, the Indian government said it would ban TikTok and other well-known Chinese apps because they pose a "threat to sovereignty and integrity." Tensions between India and China have been escalating after a clash along the Himalayan border.

Thandie Newton had uncomfortable meetings ahead of Charlie's Angels that led her to pass on the blockbuster.
The actress was approached to star in the 2000 movie but decided to drop out on starring after meeting with director Joseph McGinty Nichol and then-Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal. The action comedy would eventually feature Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in the title roles.
“One of the biggest movies I didn’t end up doing was because the director said to me, ‘I can’t wait for this. The first shot is going to be … You’re going to think it’s like yellow lines down a road, and you pull back and you realize it’s the stitching, because the denim is so tight on your ass it’s going to look like tarmac,” Newton, 47, said in a new profile for Vulture. “I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t think we’re going to go down this road together.'”
A rep for McGinty didn't immediately respond to request for comment.
She then met Pascal, who she claims made several racially stereotyped suggestions on how to make Newton's character "believable." Pascal later stepped down from her position in 2015 after emails leaked in which she discussed whether then-President Barack Obama preferred movies with Black casts.
Pascal later issued an apology for remarks made to producer Scott Rudin in the leaked emails.
"The content of my emails to Scott were insensitive and inappropriate but are not an accurate reflection of who I am," Pascal wrote in a statement at the time. "Although this was a private communication that was stolen, I accept full responsibility for what I wrote and apologize to everyone who was offended."
“She’s basically reeling off these stereotypes of how to be more convincing as a Black character,” Newton said. “Everything she said, I was like, ‘Nah, I wouldn’t do that.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, but you’re different. You’re different.’ That was Amy Pascal. That’s not really a surprise, is it? Let’s face it: I didn’t do the movie as a result.”
In a statement to Vulture, Pascal said she did not recall the meeting and was "horrified to hear" Newton's description.
“While I take her words seriously, I have no recollection of the events she describes, nor do any of her representatives who were present at that casting session,” Pascal said. “I’ve long considered Thandie a friend; I’m thankful that I’ve had the chance to make movies with her; and I hope to work with her again in the future.”

Beats by Dre announced Monday that NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace signed an endorsement deal with the company.
“We weren’t going to announce this until later this week, but hate cannot win the day,” Beats by Dre, which was acquired by Apple in 2014, wrote on Twitter.
“No one should ever be asked to apologize for standing up for what’s right — we are proud to welcome @bubbawallace to the Beats by Dr. Dre family.”
The announcement came after President Trump earlier Monday suggested Wallace, NASCAR’s only black driver, apologize for saying he was the victim of a hate crime.
Charlamagne Tha God to Host a Weekly Talk Show on Comedy Central!
Charlamagne Tha God is headed back to television: The host of the massively successful radio franchise The Breakfast Club is getting his own talk show on Comedy Central, Vulture has learned. Details are still being worked out, but the new series will be a weekly half-hour with a focus on current events and cultural issues. There’s no firm timetable for when it will premiere, but the goal is to get it in production by November’s election.
The deal with Comedy Central reunites Charlamagne with Chris McCarthy, president of the Entertainment and Youth Group at Comedy Central parent company ViacomCBS. The duo first worked together nearly a decade ago, when the exec ran MTV2 and Charlamagne was a regular on the network’s breakout hit Guy Code. Charlamagne later went on to host two talk shows for the network, Charlamagne & Friends and Uncommon Sense. McCarthy, who revealed his deal with Charlamagne Tuesday in a story about his larger effort to reinvent Comedy Central as a multiplatform brand, said he was glad to be back in business with his longtime friend. “Charlamagne’s voice is very right for today,” he said. “It’s fresh and real and resonating in a way that very few can do.”
Charlamagne told Vulture he and McCarthy started talking about doing a show together late last year, right around the time McCarthy was given oversight of Comedy Central. Given the past history and close relationship between the two men — “Chris was at my wedding,” he says — getting to an agreement was a quick process. Charlamagne was already hosting Breakfast Club on New York radio when he landed at MTV, but he says McCarthy saw the TV potential in him long before he was a national success. “Giving me a TV deal, almost ten years ago, didn’t really make any sense,” Charlamagne says. “I was a radio guy. It’s easy to say, ‘You know what? I think Charlamagne Tha God needs a talk show’ now. But almost ten years ago for him to have that vision, that did a lot for me. A lot of my success right now is because of those looks that I got on MTV2 and Viacom at the time. And none of that would’ve happened if it wasn’t for Chris.”
While Charlamagne didn’t want to get too deep into the format for the show just yet, he says it will have a cable news feel and borrow some elements from other weekly topical shows now on the air. “I love John Oliver every week, I love Bill Maher every week. There’s something to be said about sitting back and being able to observe everything that happened in a week and then come in say, ‘You know what? This is what I want to touch on,’” he says. “But I’m not going to be on here trying to rehash the whole week. Like, no. That’s not what I’m here for. I want to talk about the things that can actually impact somebody’s life, in a real way — the things that can actually help move the culture forward.”
Charlamagne says that while the main focus on the show will be “talking about the issues that are going on in the world” through his point of view, there will also be guests and interviews. But as with The Breakfast Club, he is promising the conversations won’t feel like a typical TV talker. “You have a lot of people on these news shows and these talk shows who do a lot of asking answers, instead of asking questions,” he says. “Meaning, like they’ll say things like, ‘Is coronavirus a global pandemic?’ Duh. You know what I’m saying? Or, ‘Is Donald Trump doing a good job?’ Uh, no. Like don’t leave any room for something to be manipulated. I’m not in the business of asking answers. I’m in the business of asking the tough questions, and getting actual statements on how I see the world. And you can choose to agree or disagree. But a conversation will be started.”

'Fast & Furious' Star Jordana Brewster Files for Divorce, Ending 13-Year Marriage!
About a month after news surfaced that they split, Jordana Brewster has reportedly officially filed for divorce from Andrew Form. According to The Blast, Brewster filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years on Wednesday. The couple reportedly "quietly separated" earlier this year, but the news only made headlines in early June.
On June 6, PEOPLE reported that Brewster and Form had split. According to the outlet, the split was an "amicable" one. The pair plan to co-parent the two sons they share, 4-year-old Rowan and 6-year-old Julian. "They have the utmost respect for each other," a source told PEOPLE. "They remain committed to lovingly co-parent their two children as a team." At the time, neither Brewster nor Form's reps commented on the news about their split. Brewster and Form met on the set of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, in which she starred and he directed, in 2005. Form later proposed to Brewster on their first anniversary with a 3.2-carat emerald-cut diamond and platinum ring. Two years after they met, they married in a private ceremony held on Nevis Island, a location in the Caribbean Sea.

Idris Elba Says ‘Luther’ Movie Is Moving Forward!
Idris Elba has again teased the idea of turning his cult BBC detective drama Luther into a feature, more than a year after Season 5 aired on British television.
The actor told a press junket for Season 3 of his Sky comedy In The Long Run that there are no “formal plans” for another Luther series, according to Sky News.
But Elba added: “I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther.”
It’s not the first time Elba has talked about the BBC Studios show heading to the big screen. He told Metro in 2018 that Luther writer Neil Cross has been “beavering away” on a feature script.
“Luther has all the ingredients to echo those classic films of the ’90s like Seven and Along Came A Spider and I think what we’d like to attempt is use that as a blueprint to create it,” Elba added in 2018.
“It will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther. Essentially we just want to try and take it to a much bigger remit and scale and perhaps international as well.”
Mary Trump’s book calls president a likely ‘sociopath’ who cheated his way into college, betrayed his brother!
President Trump likely suffers from a range of mental disorders developed over the course of a turbulent childhood, cheated his way into a top college, subjected his own brother to severe emotional abuse and turned himself into a scruples-free bully who could now bring about an “end to American democracy,” according to an upcoming book by his estranged niece.
Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and the daughter of the president’s late brother, Fred Trump, Jr., paints the scathing portrait of her famous uncle in “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” a copy of which was obtained by the Daily News ahead of its July 14 publication.
Citing her doctorate in psychology and years of observing Trump, the 55-year-old writes that the president meets “all nine criteria” to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder.
Trump also displays severe signs of antisocial personality disorder, a diagnosis most commonly known as “sociopathy,” according to the book. There could be a “long undiagnosed learning disability” at play as well, Mary Trump writes, citing her uncle’s inability to “process information.”
“Donald’s pathologies are so complex and his behaviors so often inexplicable that coming up with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis would require a full battery of psychological and neuropsychological tests that he’ll never sit for,” she writes.
The president’s disregard for others and win-at-all-costs attitude was shaped from an early age by his father, according to the book, which Mary Trump says is based on memory, an array of documents and interviews with dozens of the president’s relatives, friends and associates.
She describes Trump’s father, Fred Trump Sr., as an abusive patriarch who taught his “favorite” son to behave like a “killer” and see everything through a “prism of money.”
Abiding by ethics and the law was never something the president’s father instilled in him, according to Mary Trump.
While a student at Fordham University in the Bronx, Donald Trump paid a “smart” friend to take an SAT test for him because he wanted to transfer to the Wharton School of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, but feared his standardized test scores were too low, according to the book.
“Donald, who never lacked for funds, paid his buddy well,” Mary Trump writes.
She says Trump “got what he wanted,” transferring to the Wharton School in the fall of 1966 after the brainy buddy juiced up his SAT score. Trump has called his prestigious alma matter “the best school in the world” where he learned “super genius stuff.”
Trump’s family has filed a lawsuit attempting to block the book from being published, alleging it violates a non-disclosure agreement Mary Trump signed in the early 2000s as part of a settlement over the estate of Fred Trump Sr.
Charles Harder, an attorney representing the Trump family in the legal action, did not return a request for comment Tuesday.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Matthews accused Mary Trump of making up the explosive allegations to sell books and called the SAT anecdote “completely false.”
“President Trump has been in office for over three years working on behalf of the American people — why speak out now?” Matthews said.

“You know, dad’s really sick of you wasting your life,” Donald Trump told his brother over dinner, according to the book. “He says he’s embarrassed by you. Dad’s right about you: you’re nothing but a glorified bus driver.”
The night Fred Trump Jr., died, his family had sent him alone by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital in Queens, according to Mary Trump.
Even though he had suffered a heart attack, no one came to visit him, Mary Trump writes, and she didn’t find out until her dad was already dead.
Donald Trump, meanwhile, went to see a movie that same night, she writes.
Mary Trump says she firmly believes her uncle is unfit for public office and anticipates November’s election with fear.
“If he is afforded a second term, it would be the end of American democracy,” she writes. “Donald, following the lead of my grandfather and with complicity, silence, and inaction from his siblings, destroyed my father. I can’t let him destroy my country.”
She says many of Trump’s own relatives agree.
