Adwoa Aboah for Elle UK - September 2020!
Adwoa Aboah Is ELLE's September Cover Star And We Launch A Landmark Mentorship Scheme
Elle
Everyone deserves a door to be opened for them… At some point in most people’s lives, a door of opportunity is opened. Who opens that door – a teacher, a family friend, a stranger you stumble across on social media – doesn’t matter. The important thing is that you walk through it.
A magazine, now long departed, threw me an opportunity back in the late 1990s when it launched a writing competition. I was a studious teenager back then, my horizons no larger than Manchester, the city in which I grew up. My career options, as dictated to me by an ambitious immigrant father were: doctor, engineer, lawyer... or failure.

A magazine editor? Forget it. That happened to other people. To cut a circuitous story short, the competition (won by my sister) opened a crucial door: it gave me access to the media. Once I stepped through it, it took me all the way to editing this very magazine.
But the bleak truth is this: opportunity isn’t as fairly distributed as we’d like to believe. From media to medicine, politics to law, there exists a discernible ‘power gap’; where those at the pinnacle come from the very top of British society.

Over a third of those operating in the upper echelons of the media, for example, attended Oxbridge* (full disclosure: I did not, though I did attend a good Russell Group university), while 40% of those in the media are beneficiaries of a private education. I mention this not to shame those who had those experiences, but to highlight the fact that an industry that sets the cultural agenda has a huge section of society absent from its table.
There are no shortcuts to addressing this issue, but there are ways of opening doors so that a wider section of society can pass through them. To contribute to that process, ELLE UK, together with the Social Mobility Commission, approached schools across the country to find 12 students to help us put this, our September issue, together.
So how did we choose who joined our team? It was hard, particularly as Covid-19 has deprived thousands of GCSE and A-level students from the celebratory finale they deserve. In the end, however, we looked to the UK’s overshadowed corners to find talent; where opportunities are statistically at their scarcest, particularly for those leaving education.

Because whether we care to admit it or not, entrenched poverty exists in stultifying swathes in this very country, with dozens of towns and villages experiencing higher rates of mental illness, lower life expectancy and a far thinner seam of opportunities than others. The wish of any society is to give everyone a decent stab at life. But if the starting blocks for many are positioned 10 metres back, how can we get close?
But there is hope. Over the summer, thanks to the continual push of many, there has been a clarion call for equality. The impact of the global Black Lives Matter movement shows that change is possible. We know that inequalities of race, class, disability and gender run like well-worn rivulets through society; the greatest inequalities existing where these identities intersect. But finally, one hopes, the world seems to be listening.

Over the coming months, you will see further opportunities across ELLE UK, as well as a firm commitment from our publishing company about how we better support, promote and open the door to marginalised groups and voices across the country. We hope you will join us on this journey.

#RHOA: Drew Sidora and LaToya Ali Reportedly Join The Real Housewives of Atlanta!
Actress Drew Sidora and Canadian YouTuber LaToya Ali will be joining the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
The women will officially be getting their own peaches next season, media outlet Love B. Scott reported.
The news comes after Ali — known by fans as LaToya Forever — confirmed in June that she and her husband Adam Ali are calling it quits after six years of marriage, Bossip reported. The estranged couple share three children.
Ali, 33, currently resides in Atlanta and has over 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube.
The social media star is no stranger to RHOA as she is close friends with longtime cast member Kandi Burruss.

Back in May, Ali posted a birthday tribute to Burruss, writing, "Thank you for embracing me and always showing me luuuv! You are da bomb and I feel so blessed to know God has placed such an inspiring soul in my life. Keep killing it boo."
While Sidora, 35, may be new to Bravo, she's no rookie when it comes to being in the spotlight. She is most known for her roles on That's So Raven, The Game, Hindsight and the TV movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.
The actress is married to Ralph Pittman and together they share daughter Aniya Grace, 2, and 5-year-old son Machai. Sidora is also mom to son Josiah from a previous relationship.

The new additions to RHOA come after Eva Marcille announced that she is quitting the franchise after three seasons.
"I appreciate the bond of friendship that I’ve made with my castmates and strong personal relationships I have with numerous executives and producers of Bravo," she said in a statement. "I am thankful for the opportunity I was provided, however, after speaking with my family and representatives, I believe that what I hope to accomplish for the culture and community will be better served by focusing on other opportunities."
Marcille, 35, said she plans to move forward by focusing on her three children: daughter Marley Rae, 6 (with ex Kevin McCall), and sons Michael Todd, 1, and Maverick, 8 months (with husband Michael Sterling).
Sidora and Ali will join Burrus, Porsha Williams, Cynthia Bailey and Kenya Moore.

Last month, NeNe Leakes, 52, shut down rumors that she was fired from the Bravo show, asserting that she is still in talks about returning for season 13.

"It is absolutely not true that NeNe has been fired from RHOA," Leakes' manager, Steven Grossman said. "Furthermore, it was made abundantly clear prior that she will always be welcome on the series as long as she wants to be."
Grossman noted that they are "having ongoing bigger picture conversations with NBC Universal and have not made any decisions regarding next season specifically. Any speculation or sources trying to create controversy by stating otherwise are incredibly inaccurate. Bloop."
A spokesperson for Bravo also confirmed that Leakes was not ousted from the series.
"There is no truth to this story- NeNe was not fired and conversations for the next season are still ongoing," the spokesperson said
The women wrapped up season 12 with a virtual reunion in May, which saw Leakes closing her laptop and refusing to return for the rest of the show.

Her exit came minutes before Gail "Yovanna" Momplaisir appeared on the reunion and made a shocking claim about Leakes, alleging the O.G. Atlanta Housewife was the one behind "#SnakeGate."

Megan Thee Stallion Claps Back After Draya Michele Comments On Tory Lanez Shooting!
Megan Thee Stallion has had enough of the jokes at her expense.
The Houston rapper returned to Twitter on Wednesday to address the social media chatter surrounding the shooting involving her and Tory Lanez. Meg was shot multiple times during the “traumatic night,” while Tory was arrested on a gun charge. Not many details are known about the incident, but that hasn’t stopped people including Draya Michele from weighing in.

In an interview with the “Wine & Weed Podcast,” the model-actress was asked what she thought happened during the shooting, comparing Meg and Tory’s relationship to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s tumultuous love story.
When you shop Local Goodness at Food Lion, you’re not only getting the best flavors in town, you’re helping our community come back stronger than ever.
“I predict that they had some sort of Bobby and Whitney love that drove them down this snapped-esque type of road,” said Draya. “I’m here for it. I like that. I want you to like me so much you shoot me in the foot too.”

After hearing her comments, Meg seemingly clapped back at Draya on Twitter without addressing her by name. “Dumb bitch that shit ain’t fucking funny who tf jokes about getting shot by a ni**a,” she wrote.
She also had a message for anyone else making light of the violence committed against her. “And fuck all the hoe ass ni**as making jokes about it too,” she tweeted. “I’ll talk about shit when I get ready.”
After facing backlash for her remarks, Draya later clarified and shared her regrets. “It was a ‘prediction’ guys. I have no idea what really happened and I hope nothing but the best for both of them,” she commented before adding, “I really shouldn’t have been joking about it. It’s a foul for me.”
Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear. The LAPD is reportedly looking at Tory as the potential trigger man who shot Megan as she was leaving his chauffeured vehicle following a dispute in the Hollywood Hills. Megan revealed that she suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized as a result of the traumatic incident. Tory was arrested and booked for possession of a concealed weapon after a handgun was found in the vehicle.

“I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me,” Meg said following the shooting. “I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night.”

Donald Glover to Reportedly Return as Lando Calrissian in New 'Star Wars' Series!
Donald Glover is reportedly reprising his role as a young Lando Calrissian for an upcoming Star Wars series on Disney+.
Kessel Run Transmissions co-host Corey Van Dyke initially broke the rumor during the show’s latest episode, specifying that the series will focus on the Rebel Alliance General. Co-host Noah Outlaw added that they were unsure of making the announcement just in case the series was canned even before it premiered, and shared that Glover was open to returning to the franchise but his busy schedule may not permit it.

“He’s Childish Gambino and all this stuff. And also, so they were kinda trying, they had to work with him. And we say this all the time on our show as a joke, that Brinks truck that they dumped on Donald Glover’s lawn to do this show was huge,” Outlaw said.
If things fall into place, the Lando Calrissian series will hit Disney+. Glover portrayed the ex-smuggler in the 2018 spin-off film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Tamar Braxton’s Family Is Now Questioning Her Boyfriend David They’re alleging that He’s Appears Controlling to Her!
Tamar Braxton is reportedly “awake and alert” after an alleged suicide attempt. Now, details about the incident are trickling in and the Braxton Family is now side-eye’n her boyfriend, David Adefeso.
Following news that Tamar attempted to end her life, reports of a suicide note came up after David found her unresponsive in their Ritz Carlton hotel room last week. It’s said the “Braxton Family Values” star wrote a suicide note before allegedly ingesting pills to end her life. In the note, the reality star described the network’s leaders as “cruel white slave masters” who were “destroying a great Black family” in the name of show ratings in the note.

"I am a slave. I do not own my life. My stories. My pictures. My thoughts or beliefs,” Tamar reportedly wrote. “I’ve asked my massa to free me. I’m threatened and punished for it. The only way I see out is death. I will choose that before I continue to love (sic) like this. Please help me (praying hands emoji)," she continued.
During the call, David is heard saying, “She’s been drinking and she’s on medication for depression.”

Apparently, the reality star had been taking medication for depression and anxiety.
He continued, “She was very angry earlier on. She’s had trouble with the network, the company she’s working with, and they did something today.
David is reportedly heard crying and then he shouted, “F**king network.” He basically confirmed the reports that said Tamar has been uber frustrated with WEtv.

Now, the Braxton Family is supposedly looking at him sideways for mentioning Tamar’s frustrations with the network during the 9-1-1 call. TMZ reports:
Sources connected to the Braxton family tell TMZ ... Tamar's boyfriend, David Adefeso, had seen the pilot episode and promo late last week for her new reality show, 'Get Ya Life!' ... and he was very unhappy.
We're told David got angry about the show's content, and how he was portrayed in it -- and his reaction, in turn, made Tamar upset. Our sources say Tamar's relatives find it strange David was discussing details of her alleged network beef while she was desperately in need of medical attention. We're told the family believes it's further proof David was the one who really had issues with the show's editorial choices.

Not only that, the Braxton Family claims they’ve noticed Tamar changed after getting into a relationship with David, following her breakup from her ex-husband Vince Herbert.
Sources told TMZ Tamar's mood swings tend to align with how David is feeling. They also say "he's very involved in her business decisions".  TMZ revealed:
As for David's portrayal in the pilot, someone who's seen the episode tells us David, at times, comes off as demanding and controlling. In the episode, we're told Tamar decides to go on a spiritual healing journey, which includes no sex for 45 days, something that really upsets David.

Tamar’s new WEtv series is still going forward. "Get Ya Life" is set to premiere July 30th at 10/9c.

Kanye West Gets A Visit From Damojn Dash While In Wyoming Just For A Walmart Run!

Kanye West has a steady stream of close friends showing up in Wyoming -- the latest being Damon Dash, who he took for an essential items shopping trip.
It appears Dame arrived at Ranch West sometime Wednesday, and the duo hit up the Walmart in nearby Cody ... wearing face masks to enter, as required.
The hip-hop superstars weren't exactly trying to stay incognito -- once outside they removed their masks and sat on a bench for a bit talking.
Of course, these 2 go way back to their Roc-A-Fella Records days, and it seems Dame flew in to check on Ye ... on the heels of his Monday and Tuesday night Twitter attacks against his wife and mother-in-law.
Dash posted a pic of Kanye, himself and a few others touring the ranch grounds with the caption, "We good."
Kanye is reportedly working on new music while he's in Wyoming, so it's possible Dame came by for that too -- but we know family and friends have been concerned about his mental health since the Sunday rally in South Carolina.
Kim Kardashian's made it clear her husband is in the grips of a bipolar episode and adds, "Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions."

With Dave, and now Dame, jetting into Wyoming ... Kanye's friends are doing their best to rally around him.

ESPN's Sage Steele says colleagues kept her off racial justice special claiming she isn't Black enough!
ESPN anchor Sage Steele claims that her colleagues boxed her out of a network special on race and social justice claiming she isn’t Black enough.
Steele did not appear on “Time for Change: We Won’t Be Defeated,” a June 24 special billed as “exploring Black athletes’ experiences with injustice” in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death while in custody of the Minneapolis police.
SportsCenter anchors Elle Duncan, Michael Eaves and Jay Harris hosted the special alongside college football reporter and NBA studio host host Maria Taylor.

Not an ‘authentic voice for the Black community’
A source told The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Flint that Steele told management she wasn’t invited to participate “because she wasn’t considered by certain Black colleagues to be an authentic voice for the Black community.”

She reportedly told network president Jimmy Pitaro that ESPN “has a divisive work environment” and said that colleagues told her she had been considered for the show until Duncan and Eaves complained.
Steele confirmed the claim in a statement to WSJ.

‘I have felt the inequities’“I found it sad for all of us that any human beings should be allowed to define someone’s ‘Blackness,’ ” Steele wrote. “Growing up biracial in America with a Black father and a white mother, I have felt the inequities that many, if not all Black and biracial people have felt — being called a monkey, the N-word, having ape sounds made as I walked by — words and actions that all of us know sting forever.

“Most importantly, trying to define who is and isn’t Black enough goes against everything we are fighting for in this country, and only creates more of a divide.”
Eaves and Duncan didn’t deny the claim in a statement to WSJ.
“We wish we had more than an hour to include more of the many strong voices we have at ESPN; however, we are hopeful that this doesn’t distract from the important message conveyed that night,” the joint statement reads.

An ESPN spokesman denied the report in a statement to WSJ. Kevin Merida, editor in chief of The Undefeated — which presented the show — had this to say to WSJ:
“At The Undefeated, we don’t have litmus tests for Blackness,” Merida said. “ESPN has a tremendous range of Black voices, and we’ve been honored to work with many of them. ... We had already talked to Sage a number of times about working together and look forward to that opportunity.”

Steele’s controversial stances
Steele has courted controversy on several occasions, most notably while complaining about people protesting for social justice.
She criticized Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans in 2016 for his decision to kneel during the national anthem to protest social injustice and police brutality.
In 2017, she complained about her travel plans at LAX being disrupted by people protesting President Donald Trump’s travel ban on people from predominantly Muslim countries.
After the backlash over her travel ban commentary, she said at a Christian forum on race and faith titled “Under our Skin” that Black people had shown her more racism than white people.

“The worst racism that I have received, and I mean thousands and thousands over the years, is from Black people, who in my mind thought would be the most accepting because there has been that experience,” Steele said. “But even as recent as the last couple of weeks, the words that I have had thrown at me I can’t repeat here, and it’s 99 percent from people with my skin color.”

In 2016, Steele cut an interview with Arcade Fire frontman and NBA All-Star Celebrity Game MVP Win Butler short when he mentioned expanding health care and the pending presidential election.

Machine Gun Kelly And Megan Fox Open Up About Relationship!
Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are getting candid about their relationship.
The couple sat down for their first joint interview on Wednesday’s episode of Lala Kent and Randall Emmett’s podcast, “Give Them Lala … With Randall.”
The rapper, 30, and actress, 34, revealed that they met on set of their upcoming thriller, Midnight in the Switchgrass, which Emmett directed. Fox said she knew “something was going to come from that” after hearing they would be co-stars.
“I was like, ‘Who is going to play this role?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, we just got Machine Gun Kelly,’ and immediately, I was like, ‘Uh oh,'” she recalled, according to ETOnline. “I could feel that some wild sh*t was going to happen to me from that meeting, but I wasn’t yet sure what. I just felt it like, deep in my soul — that something was going to come from that.”
Kelly was even more anxious to meet his co-star and was “waiting outside on my trailer steps, every day… to catch one glimpse of eye contact.”

“She would have to get out of her car. There were like, five steps between the car and the trailer. And I would just sit there and hope,” he said.
Fox immediately knew they were meant to be together. “I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame,” she said. “Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we’re actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away.”
On the second day of filming, Fox invited MGK to her trailer for lunch. “I put him through all of this astrology stuff,” she said. “I went deep right away. I knew before I even did his chart, I said to him, he has a Pisces moon. I could tell by his energy.”

The couple hasn’t been shy to show PDA during public outings and put their chemistry on display in the steamy video for Kelly’s “Bloody Valentine.”
MGK has also been gushing over his new girlfriend on social media. Last month, he shared an Instagram Story of the two on a date, eating sushi and surrounded by roses while overlooking the sunset. “in love,” he captioned it.

Fox split from her husband Brian Austin Green after nearly a decade of marriage. “She met this guy, Colson, on set … I’ve never met him … Megan and I have talked about him,” Green said during a May episode of his podcast “…With Brian Austin Green.” “I trust her judgment, she’s always had really good judgment. I don’t want people to think her or he are villains or that I was a victim in any way.”

Atlanta Dream Co-Owner Kelly Loeffler Says WNBA’s Public Support For BLM Could Make Some Fans’ Feel Excluded’!
If the WNBA’s support for Black Lives Matter is going to cost them fans, then so be it.
Georgia Republican Senator, Kelly Loeffler who co-owns the Atlanta Dream franchise has expressed her fears that the league’s support for BLM could drive fans always, ESPN reports.
“I think a lot of people feel that they may not have a place,” Loeffler said Tuesday in an interview with ESPN. “They may feel excluded from this sport, and other sports that make them feel like American values aren’t at the core of what we’re doing here.”
Early July, Loeffler addressed a letter to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert objecting to the WNBA’s promotion of the Black Lives Matter–which includes painting courts at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where the league will hold its season. She also voiced her opinion of placing the American flag on jerseys.

“The statement, ‘Black lives matter,’ is very different than the organization Black Lives Matter,” Loeffler said. “I think we all agree the life of every African American is important. There’s no room for racism in this country, and we have to root it out where it exists. But there’s a political organization called Black Lives Matter that I think is very important to make the distinction between their aim and where we are as a country at this moment. The Black Lives Matter political organization advocates things like defunding and abolishing the police, abolishing our military, emptying our prisons, destroying the nuclear family. It promotes violence and antisemitism. To me, this is not what our league stands for.”
Her statements upset many WNBA players who called on the WNBA to force her out as co-owner, a move that Engelbert said the organization would not do but says she is aware of several parties interested in buying the team.

“They can’t push me out for my views,” Loeffler told ESPN. “I intend to own the team. I am not going, she said, adding she is going to remain part of the team when asked if she was aware of the parties interested in buying. “I have long welcomed additional partners as part of making sure that we continue to grow the team, but I will continue to remain part of the team.”
Loeffler admitted she has minimal involvement in the team’s day-to-day operations, but she funds the team and will remain supporting and watching the team this season, despite the backlash she has received.

“I’ve always been supportive of my team, though I know we may have different views,” Loeffler said. “But the best way that we can have a common understanding is by working together on it, not shutting soeone out.”
Dream Star Renee Montgomery has chosen to sit out this season to focus on social justice initiatives. In a recent July 7 tweet, she said she “would love to have a conversation with [Leoffler] about this matter.” An offer Loeffler said she was unaware of but open to.
“That’s always been my approach is one that, where we have a dialogue, not where we call for someone to be canceled or fired or pushed out or kicked out,” Loeffler said.
While on the other hand, Las Vegas Aces player Angel McCoughtry, who spent her first 10 seasons with the Atlanta team, told reporters that Loeffler is using the league for political posturing.

“As far as Kelly is concerned, I think that right now, she has not reflected what the Dream logo stands for,” McCoughtry said. “If she really did have [problems] with LGBTQ or Black Lives Matter, I don’t think she would have had us players in her home. Why do you own a WNBA team? I think she has to play the political game to look good in front of her peers. OK, do that. If you want to play the political game, do that, but don’t include us in it.”
Loeffler is a candidate in a special Georgia election on November 3.

However, Loeffler has voiced her disappointment by anyone who questions her motives. “I think that women athletes can be some of the first to understand what it means to speak out and to have that tolerance,” Loeffler said. “It’s been pretty shocking to see that reaction.”

Meek Mill Responds To Kanye West’s Claim That Kim Kardashian Cheated With Him!
Meek Mill is responding to Kanye West’s suggestion that Kim Kardashian attempted to cheat on him.
During his latest Twitter rant on Tuesday night, the billionaire mogul said that he wanted to divorce his wife, alleging that she had an inappropriate relationship with Meek in 2018. “I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for ‘prison reform,'” tweeted Ye, adding. “Meek is my man and was respectful. That’s my dog Kim was out of line.”

According to TMZ, Kim did take a meeting with Meek to discuss prison reform at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills in November 2018, but it was not a one-on-one setting. They were joined by philanthropist Clara Wu Tsai at Jean-Georges restaurant and discussed plans to further the prison reform movement. A witness says a solo Kim left the hotel immediately following the meeting.
There doesn’t seem to be any truth to the cheating allegations. Meek took to Twitter on Wednesday to seemingly clear his name and deny Kanye’s claims. “Shit is cappp cmon …..” he wrote. TMZ also backs up Meek’s denial, saying “nothing inappropriate happened” between him and Kim.
After Tuesday’s Twitter meltdown, Kim spoke out about Kanye’s struggle with bipolar disorder. “As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder,” she wrote. “Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.”

“I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions,” she added. “He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions.”

Insider Reveals Ghislaine Maxwell Paid Jacob Wohl $25K To ‘Smear Epstein Victims’ and Get NY AG Fired!
A former friend of conservative operative Jacob Wohl told DailyMail.com that Ghislaine Maxwell paid him $25,000 to smear her and Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged victims.
Included in the deal, which was made in June, Maxwell allegedly ordered Wohl and his lobbyist colleague Jack Burkman to get New York US Attorney Geoffrey Berman, the leader of Epstein’s case, removed from office.
According to the publication, 22-year-old Wohl and his associate have a reputation for paying women to make false accusations against prominent figures such as Elizabeth Warren, Ted Cruz, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and Nacy Pelosi.

Kristin Spealman, one of the women they tried to exploit in the smear tactics, told DailyMail.com that Maxwell hired Wohl and Burkman.
The 36-year-old Maryland model said the two men boasted about being hired in early June for $25,000 to dig up dirt on Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking victims. She added that Maxwell also paid them to use Burkman’s lobbyist influence with Attorney General William Barr to get Berman fired.
Although the plan to get Berman removed worked, two weeks later, Maxwell was charged and detained for being involved in Epstein’s sex trafficking scandal on July 2.
When reached for comment from DailyMail.com, Wohl said Maxwell “deserves representation.”

” Every person, even those accused of the most odious of crimes, deserves representation and possesses the right to engage lobbyists to petition the government on their behalf,” Wohl said.
Likewise, Burkina copied Wohl’s statement, saying,” All persons accused of crimes–however terrible–have the right to representation and representation in the court of public opinion.”
