Kerry Washington for InStyle US - March 2020!
Kerry Washington covers the March 2020 issue of InStyle magazine photographed by Sebastian Faena and styled by Law Roach. Here are some excerpts from the interview!

On Hollywood’s current synergistic state: “We are really pouring into each other,” Washington says. “We became a sisterhood in the industry across different roles and, in particular, with fellow actresses. We are so invested now and we understand each other.”

On working with men and women: “I’m doing a project with two co-producers who are black men, and it’s a different kind of safety. In a room full of women, I still have to translate my blackness, in a way,” she says. “In these rooms there is another kind of safety that comes from speaking to the same cultural, racial identity.”

On creating more opportunities for people of color: “Being No. 1 on the call sheet for a show as historic as Scandal, where the stakes were so high and meant possible opportunities for other actresses of color, that felt like a real test.”

On asking Reese Witherspoon for advice on her production company: “I knew that Reese had several production companies through the years and had learned a lot during the various stages of their development. I said to her, ‘You’re killing it now, but tell me all the mistakes you made so I don’t have to reinvent the wheel.’ ” Witherspoon obliged and then revealed something surprising: “She said, ‘Not a single other actress has called me to have this conversation.’ ”
On Scandal changing her role in the industry: “I would disappear into these different roles, and, you know, nobody was connecting that the woman from Save the Last Dance was the same woman from Ray who was the same person from The Last King of Scotland. They are totally different humans, and that was great for me. I got to really keep my life and not have it disrupted in a big way. That changed with the one-two punch of Scandal and Django Unchained.”

On keeping kids out of the public eye: “These are their lives. But it’s not about pulling a Rapunzel and hiding them away in a castle from the world— we don’t want to do that,” she says. “I think any parent would want to keep kids from a situation that causes them to feel scared. I don’t want them to be exploited, particularly in this social-media world.”
On her Golden Globes daring ensemble: “Isla Fisher was at a table with J.Lo, and Isla was like, ‘I’m so stressed out. I just feel like Kerry’s jacket is going to fly open, and it’s going to be a disaster,’ ” Washington says, laughing. “Jennifer Lopez, who is the queen of Topstick, just turned to her and said, ‘She’s fine!’ Jennifer and I are from the same neighborhood in the Bronx, so she’s always looked out for me.”

March issue of InStyle magazine available February 14th.

#RHOA: NeNe Leakes Hires High Powered Lawyer Lisa Bloom to Sue BRAVO?
NeNe Leakes hired high powered attorney Lisa Bloom amid Real Housewives of Atlanta drama and her frustration with the show. “Yes, I have spoken to Nene Leakes about her situation,” Bloom told Radar after the RHOA star posted a photo of her and a cryptic message on her Instagram page.
“I’m so pleased she reached out to me,” Bloom said. “While our conversation is confidential, I encourage everyone to stand up for their rights!”
A NeNe source dished about her frustrations with the current season of RHOA, the highest rated show on Bravo. “NeNe has expressed her unhappiness with how positively Kenya [Moore] is being portrayed on the show.”The insider said the OG of the ATL is feeling burned by producers of the show.
“NeNe feels like she is getting a bad edit and is being intentionally cut out of episodes.”
Talk show host Wendy Williams dropped the bombshell that Nene sent her a text that read, “I am quitting,” setting off a firestorm in Atlanta! According to an insider, Bravo had not been contacted by NeNe or her attorney.

“NeNe feels like she is being used for ratings,” a source snitched about the OG carrying the show. “While our conversation is confidential, I encourage everyone to stand up for their rights," Bloom said.
Her problems with Kenya were a major source of her misery.
“Kenya gets away with murder time and time again and NeNe gets all of the criticism,” a source previously said. The reality show diva was clashing with Andy Cohen, another problem the source spilled. “Andy has had everyone else on Watch What Happens Live except her. And he picked on her dress. She’s tired of it all.”

You all know ex RHOC star Vicki Gunvalson fired off a lawsuit demanding that Bravo edit out Kelly Dodd’s comments calling her a “con woman.” She quickly dropped the lawsuit but is not returning for another season of RHOC.

#Empire: Sneak Peek: Fox’s Hit Show will soon air it’s Final 10 Episodes!
Empire, the hit Fox drama that tells the story of the Lyon clan is finally coming back! The nighttime soap set against the backdrop of the music world is returning next week for its final 10 episodes!

Check out the sizzling sizzle reel to get reacquainted with Lucious (Terrence Howard), Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), and the rest of the cast of characters in this hot drama.
As regular viewers of the show know, the mid-season finale ended with Lucious about to sign final divorce papers, severing his ties with Cookie, only to realize he was still in love with her. The couple’s emotional reunion was interrupted by a gun-wielding Tracy (Amanda Detmer)!
It’s anyone’s guess as to how things will play out in these final episodes, but we do know that Jamal (Jussie Smollet) will not be back again.

“[T]here are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire,” Fox Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television said in a statement last year. That stance was reiterated earlier this year at the Winter Television Critics press tour in Pasadena, Calif.

Empire was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. Filmed in Chicago, the series is set in New York City. Empire is both the name of the show and the company name for the record label created by Lucious Lyon. The series premiered back in January of 2015 to nearly 10 million viewers and the Season 1 finale drew in 17 million viewers. Empire airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

#HipHopNews: Meek Mill Says Songs He Recorded For Nipsey Hussle Joint Album Are For Nip’s Family!
Before Nipsey Hussle’s untimely death, Meek Mill and the late rapper were in the process of recording a collaborative album. On Friday (Feb. 7), during his #askmeek Q&A session on Twitter, Meek offered an update on the proposed album.

A fan asked the Philadelphia rapper, "We still getting that Meek & Nip project? The world need to hear that if possible." Meek replied, "We never finished it...it’s songs left but they for his family!"
Back in March 2019, during an interview with Real 92.3 L.A., Neighborhood Nip revealed that he and Meek have been working hard in the studio. "We been cutting ideas and just getting in," Nip said in the interview. "We got a couple records that's gon' go off for the summer."

Sadly, it didn't come to fruition. Weeks later, the Crenshaw rapper was shot multiple times outside of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. The alleged shooter, Eric Holder, has been indicted on one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Since his death, Nip's final album Victory Lap has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Additionally, at the 2020 Grammy Awards, Nipsey won two posthumous awards for "Racks in the Middle" featuring Hit-Boy and Roddy Ricch and for his contribution on "Higher," a DJ Khaled song featuring John Legend.

Memorial service for Kobe Bryant, daughter Gianna, other crash victims set for Feb. 24!
A public memorial service for NBA star Kobe Bryant, his daughter, Gianna, and seven other people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, is scheduled for Feb. 24, multiple law enforcement sources familiar with planning the event told NBC News.

The date is significant because it reflects both Bryant and Gianna's jersey numbers.
Bryant used the No. 24 jersey on the Los Angeles Lakers, and Gianna, who played on a basketball team at her father's Mamba Sports Academy and aspired to the WNBA, used No. 2.
The memorial will be held at the Staples Center, which is home to the Lakers and often referred to as the "house that Kobe built."
Bryant, one of the most influential basketball players of the late 1990s and the early 21st century, played for the Los Angeles team his entire 20-year career until his retirement in 2016.

The arena has become a gathering place for Bryant's fans as they mourn his death. The athlete and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were among nine people killed in the Jan. 26 helicopter crash.

To pay their respects for the NBA superstar, thousands of fans left flowers, basketballs, candles and other items outside the arena. The makeshift memorial was dismantled, and some of the items were given to Bryant's widow, Vanessa, per her request.
The other victims in the crash included the pilot, Ara Zobayan; John Altobelli, the head baseball coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California; his wife, Keri; and their daughter Alyssa.
The Angels Stadium in Anaheim said in a press release this week that it will be hosting a celebration of life for the Altobelli family on Feb. 10.

Also killed in the crash were Christina Mauser, a coach, and Sarah Chester and her 13-year-old daughter, Payton Chester. Payton was also a player at Mamba Sports Academy, where the helicopter was headed to when it crashed in foggy weather.

Harbor Day School in Newport Beach, which Gianna attended, held a ceremony Wednesday night to honor her and retire her basketball jersey.

#RIP: Robert Conrad, Star of Television Series The Wild Wild West, Dies at 84
Robert Conrad, the actor best known for his role in the television show The Wild Wild West, has died. He was 84.
“He lived a wonderfully long life and while the family is saddened by his passing, he will live forever in their hearts,” family spokesman Jeff Ballard tells media
Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 1, 1935, Conrad worked as a milkman while pursuing a career as a local nightclub singer before moving to Los Angeles in 1958 and booking his first big recurring role on Hawaiian Eye in 1959.

After Hawaiian Eye, the actor went on to star as Secret Service agent James T. West in The Wild Wild West, which ran from 1965 to 1969. The show followed the characters of West and Artemus Gordon as the country’s first Secret Service agents exploring the west during the Ulysses S. Grant administration.
The actor also had a career in film as well. Conrad was seen in movies including Wild Wild West spin-off movie More Wild Wild West, as well as Murph the Surf, The Lady in Red and Samurai Cowboy. His last appearance was in the 2002 movie Dead Above Ground.

Conrad was also a singer, and recorded music under the name of Bob Conrad in the 1950s and 60s.
“There are three cycles in showbiz,” Conrad told PEOPLE in 1988, while he filmed his then-new show High Mountain Rangers. “They don’t know you, then they love you, and then you’ve been around so long they hate you. Now I’m starting all over again.”

A recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in Broadcasting and an inductee of the Stuntman’s Hall of Fame, Conrad was a longtime supporter of amateur boxing, the Wounded Warriors Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America, the United States Marine Corps, and the Jimmie Heuga Endowment, which provides support to those affected with multiple sclerosis.
A small private service is scheduled for March 1, which would have been Conrad’s 85th birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

Conrad is survived by 18 grandchildren and eight children, whom he shares with ex-wives LaVelda Fann and Joan Kenlay.

Heidi Klum Reveals The Backlash She Received Following Dismissive Comments About Gabrielle Union’s ‘AGT’ Firing; ‘I Was Called A White Woman’!
Heidi Klum recently opened up to Page Six about the intense scrutiny that she faced for her dismissive comments regarding Gabrielle Union’s claims of unfair treatment while serving as a judge on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

In November, news began to circulate that Union was fired from the show after she reported racism and other toxic components that were taking place on set. Union claimed that she was the subject of an overwhelming amount of comments related to her hairstyles, some stating that they were “too black.”
However, during a Television Critics Association event last month, former model Heidi Klum, who was also a judge on the show for six seasons, gave a very different account of her experience with AGT.
“I’ve only had an amazing experience on the show. I can’t speak for Gabrielle. I didn’t experience the same thing. To me, everyone treats you with the utmost respect,” she said.

But the comments did not go over well with supporters of Union, who felt that Klum was dismissing Union’s claims, noting that the fact that Klum is a white woman is the reason that she and Union were treated noticeably different.
On Wednesday, Klum revealed the backlash she received following her comments to Page Six during the amfAR gala at Cipriani Wall Street.

“A lot of people got mad at me. I was called, for example, ‘a white woman. I think it is important for everyone to speak their truth. I think that when there is a story, it should be told. I had a different story.” Klum also added, “I can only speak to what I saw, it has nothing to do with what color I am. I am a human, so I just looked at what I saw.”
