Joaquin Phoenix for Vanity Fair - November 2019 Joaquin Phoenix!
Joker is out and will have no problem stacking up box office dollars off the strength of solid reviews, not to mention the fact that the film has seemingly not left headlines since it was announced. Particular emphasis, for some, has been placed on trying to connect the movie's depiction of its title character with real-world violence.
Understandably, both director Todd Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix have pushed back against this narrative in their own ways, including an instance in which Phillips wondered aloud why the John Wick franchise wasn't met with the same scrutiny.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Phoenix doesn't opt for naming other franchises, choosing instead to point out the potential benefits of the film having already garnered such strong reactions in either direction.
"I didn't imagine that it would be smooth sailing," Phoenix said. "It's a difficult film. In some ways, it's good that people are having a strong reaction to it."

Adding to that, Phoenix continued, is the fact that any viewer could have a different perspective on the story. "You can either say here's somebody who, like everybody, needed to be heard and understood and to have a voice," he said. "Or you can say this is somebody that disproportionately needs a large quantity of people to be fixated on him. His satisfaction comes as he stands in amongst the madness."
Later, Phoenix recalled the internal debate he had while reading the film's script. Though the Joker is a "malevolent" character, Phoenix ultimately came to the conclusion that he was worth exploring, as the act of exploration is much broader than simply giving a new take on a Batman character.

"I was going through [the script] and I realized, I said, 'Well, why would we make something, like, where you sympathize or empathize with this villain?'" he said. "It's like, because that's what we have to do. It's so easy for us to—we want the simple answers, we want to vilify people. It allows us to feel good if we can identify that as evil. 'Well, I'm not racist 'cause I don't have a Confederate flag or go with this protest.' It allows us to feel that way, but that's not healthy because we're not really examining our inherent racism that most white people have, certainly. Or whatever it may be."

Phoenix added that audiences are capable of seeing "both of those things simultaneously," and that's the ultimate value of the film.
Elsewhere in Joe Hagan's profile, Phoenix discussed his early path to veganism, his occasional urge to "fuck up a bag of chips," the continued impact of I'm Still Here, and more. You know what to do for the full thing.

#RHOA: Kenya Moore’s Estranged Husband Marc Daly Had ‘Multiple Affairs’ Before Split!
Kenya Moore’s estranged husband, Marc Daly, was allegedly unfaithful to the Real Housewives of Atlanta star during their marriage, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively.
“Marc has had multiple affairs on Kenya,” the source claims to Us. “She walked away from her career for him and he had no problem with that and no problem disrespecting her.”

Moore, 48, confirmed her split from Daly, 49, on September 19.
The former pageant queen married Daly in June 2017. They share an 11-month-old daughter named Brooklyn. While Moore left RHOA shortly after she married the restaurateur, she returned for season 12. During the trailer for the upcoming season, the Bravo star admitted that the pair were at “a really low place” in their marriage.

Daly, meanwhile, got heated during a discussion about a prenup.
“You can take everything, I’ll build it again!” he declared in the teaser.
Days before the split news broke, the twosome appeared to be on good terms during a joint appearance on the Tamron Hall show.
“At 46, I met the love of my life,” Moore said on the September 16 episode of the talk show. “And it just was, it was God. I can’t say that it was anything else.”

“It’s incredibly challenging because the success rate for these these treatments are very low,” Daly admitted. “So there’s a lot of disappointment of expectations. You also have to be prepared for disappointment. So just being there, being supportive, being hopeful, and being positive and just being behind her was what it’s all about.”

#Empire: Season 6, Episode 2 ‘Got On My Knees to Pray’ Review: A Twisted Faith!
No matter what happens, the Lyons will always find themselves in complicated situations whether it’s in or out of Empire. We’ve been following hip-hop’s First Family since 2015, and they’ve always come out stronger than ever. They’ve survived a hostile takeover, a near-death experience, family clashes, losing the record label itself; heck, nothing can stop them from ever coming out on top despite the hard blows that life gives them. However, they are tested beyond measure.

Last week’s episode of Empire, titled “Got on My Knees to Pray,” Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is out for Damon Cross’ blood (Wood Harris), and we also find out that he’s been using his relationship with Yana (Kiandra Richardson)—Damon’s daughter—to get closer to his foe’s assets. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), on the other hand, tries to iron things out with Damon. On the Lyon family front, Andre’s (Trai Byers) choices prompt another war with God yet again as the life of Teri (Meta Golding) and their baby hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Bossy Media’s woes continue to pile up as timid artist Lala (Diamond White) struggles to become the headliner artist that Giselle (Nicole Ari Parker) and Becky (Gabourey Sibide) needs.

Here’s everything that went down on last week’s episode of FOX’s Empire.

No One Can Mess With Andre—Yep, Even God.
Things have never been straight with Andre and the concept of God and religion. He might’ve had a few bright moments with power from on high, but Andre has always been a one-man show.  “Got on My Knees to Pray” explores this side of his character once again, as he faces the consequences of his recent actions. Killing off that annoying Mouse (Anthony Lee Irons) seemed satisfying, but it came back to haunt Andre.

Teri is rushed to the hospital after Andre finds her unconscious at home. That’s when Andre’s trauma begins resurfacing as the doctor tells him that Teri is suffering from pre-eclampsia and that he has to decide who lives between his wife and the baby. Is this unfortunate situation happening because of him killing Mouse? Or does Andre just so happen to be one unlucky motherfucker after going through so much loss throughout the years?

Even as Pastor Brown (Frederick Paul Williams) tries to show him the path to God (man, that “let go and let God” line had me flipping out), Andre has none of it and resolves to take control of his life without God in the equation. Eventually, Andre loses the tug of war. He even tries to bargain by offering his heart (well, technically it was Kingsley’s) so Teri and the baby could live, but God’s pull was stronger, apparently.

And just like clockwork, Andre gets the good news—after “surrendering” to God, Teri’s condition stabilizes and the baby can now breathe on his own. But things are not what it seems here. The same trauma that Andre felt after Rhonda, his former wife, died came back with a vengeance tonight in the form of Kingsley’s (A.Z. Kelsey) apparition. Kingsley also told Andre that it wasn’t God who helped Andre get through this. “I won’t let God take all the credit. It was me, bruh,” ghost Kingsley says. “I answered your prayers. You’re a cold-blooded killer, Andre. I saved you and your family.”......Yikes.

Revenge of the Lyon King

Alright, that headline’s a bit misleading. No once actually dies tonight, except maybe Damon Cross’ money stash. Last week, we were all left wondering if Lucious knows that his new girl Yana is actually Damon’s daughter. It turns out that he knew all along, and he’s using her innocence to get closer to Damon.

Cookie, meanwhile, demands an explanation from Damon. She knows that he turned Lucious in, try as Damon might to cover up his tracks. Eventually, Cookie finds out the truth when she snoops on Damon’s phone, seeing a hefty donation to former prosecutor Megan Conway’s election campaign.

As Yana prepares to meet her uncle Ray (Mario Van Peebles) for Damon’s money transfer, Lucious tugs along, knowing full well that he’s this close to nabbing Ray and Damon. Now, there’s no denying that Lucious is an opportunist son of a bitch (especially in desperate times) so he uses his time with Yana to figure out where Ray is. After Yana returns with an okay on the money for the next day, Lucious swoops in for the kill. Lucious breaks into Ray’s home and finds out that he’s stalling on giving Yana the money to give Damon time to arrive. So, okay, hold up. Does this mean that Damon knows Lucious is dating his daughter? Man, that’s a dire strait, if you ask me.
Lucious was then able to pressure Ray into giving him all of Damon’s money stash. Damon arrives to find his cash gone, with Lucious leaving an audio snippet of “Snitch Bitch” to taunt him.

Lala Finds Her Sound, Devon and Tiana Get Steamy in the Studio
Bossy Media’s struggle to take off with a landmark artist continues to plague Giselle and Becky. It’s one thing to scout for a talented YouTube artist. But it’s another to sign them only to find out that they’re basically useless when listened to live. Lala is the epitome of a shy YouTuber who only does it because she’s alone. But when the bigger stage comes after her, Lala shrinks to an almost audible singer.

But just when all hope is lost, Becky turns to one of the best confidence-boosters out there—tequila shots and karaoke at Club Leviticus. Luckily, Lala gets that surge of confidence after Melody (Alexandra Grey), the Club’s new manager, gives her a quick impromptu voice lesson. True enough, Lala musters enough courage to finally let her powerful voice out, much to Giselle and Becky’s jaw-dropped delight.

Meanwhile, at Empire, it looks like Tiana (Serayah McNeill) and Devon’s (Mario Barrett) relationship is in full swing once again. After vowing to stay celibate before his album finishes production, Devon finally gets the action that he’s been saving himself up for. When Tiana helps him lay down some adjustments to his new track (hold up, I thought his album was done?), the pair immediately gets wild and steamy. After one round, Devon gains a boost of creativity for his track, adding some much-needed flair to it.

HONORABLE MENTION: What will Billy Beretti (Judd Nelson) do with the Lyon mansion nine months from now? Is he colluding with Damon Cross?

‘Empire: Got on My Knees to Pray’ Overall Verdict
It’s nice to see Empire returning to the “disturbed Andre” narrative after so long. With Jamal finally out of the picture, it looks like the show is building up Andre as the new heart of Empire. It’s a bold move as Andre’s character is riddled with so many twists and turns that only make him more raw and relatable.

The drama is significantly highlighted in tonight’s episode, and it gives a whole new perspective to where the show is likely headed. With a pace that holds nothing back and dialogue that does a great job at deepening our understanding of the Lyon family, “Got on My Knees to Pray” is a great thrill to watch—bouncing off of the amazing writing of the show’s first two seasons.

Empire continues Tuesday, October 8th, with “You Broke Love” at 9/8c on FOX.

#HipHopNews: Tyler, The Creator Didn’t Care About Eminem’s Homophobic Diss: “Don’t Get Offended For Me”!
Last year, Eminem clapped at Tyler, The Creator and others on the Kamikaze track "Fall" as a result of the Odd Future frontman dissing one of the Detroit MC's albums years prior. Tyler is finally reacting to the year-old diss.

Wolf recently sat down with The Guardian for an interview published on Saturday (Oct. 5), when the topic of the homophobic diss was brought up. On the line, Shady delivered the scathing bars, "Tyler create nothin', I see why you called yourself a faggot, bitch/It's not just 'cause you lack attention/It's 'cause you worship D12's balls, you're sack-rilegious."
A year later, Tyler seems unbothered by the diss. "Did you ever hear me publicly say anything about that? Because I knew what the intent was," Tyler said.

Em faced backlash for the line and later said he regretted what he said about Tyler.
"He felt pressured because people got offended for me," Tyler added. "Don’t get offended for me. We were playing Grand Theft Auto when we heard that. We rewound it and were like: 'Oh.' And then kept playing."

Tyler never responded to the diss on wax and it looks like he doesn't plan to.
In Shady-related news, the rap god may have a new album on the horizon. According to frequent collaborator 50 Cent, Em is hard at work on a new LP.

Tossing confetti about and using other larger-than life props, Taylor got laughs from being exactly just that — over the top.

“He made thousands of outlandish appearances on television and in nightclubs and his zany shtick and over-the-top delivery was a favorite for me growing up," SiriusXM host Eric Alper tweeted.
Born in 1935, Taylor began his stand-up routine in the Army before branching out, eventually making more than 2,000 television appearances including on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “American Bandstand,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show," “The Jackie Gleason Show” and more.

#OMG! Witness in Trial of Former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger Fatally Shot!
Botham Jean's neighbor -- who testified against Amber Guyger, the Dallas cop who gunned down BJ in his own apartment -- has now been killed ... days after the guilty verdict.

Joshua Brown was discovered Friday night in Dallas after what appears to be a drive-by shooting, according to local reports. Officers reportedly found Joshua on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds at an apartment complex in Turtle Creek.
Eyewitness told police they saw a silver, 4-door sedan speeding through the parking lot of the complex after the shots rang out. No suspects or motive have been identified as of yet.

Cops hadn't even publicly ID'd the victim, but an attorney for Botham's family confirmed on Facebook that it was, in fact, Joshua. He died from his injuries at a hospital.

Of course, Joshua's death comes less than a week after Amber herself was found guilty of murdering Botham in 2018 -- when she entered his unit, supposedly thinking it was hers, and shot him dead. She got 10 years in prison for it, but was forgiven by Botham's brother.
Weeks earlier, Joshua testified about what he saw and heard that night, saying he never heard Amber shout any commands that a police officer would normally shout at a suspect.

Some people have taken to social media in utter outrage at Joshua's killing -- with some calling it retaliation, revenge, and even an assassination. None of that has been proven, but folks are running with the theories nonetheless. Dallas PD is currently investigating.

Janelle Monae Posts Sweet Birthday Message To Rumored Girlfriend Tessa Thompson!
Janelle took to Instagram and dedicated a series of stories to the Creed actress and included a few intimate snapshots of the two.

The two confirmed they are indeed an item in June 2018. Monae said,
“We love each other deeply. We’re so close, we vibrate on the same frequency. If people want to speculate about what we are, that’s okay. It doesn’t bother me.”

Thompson also opened up about their relationship previously and said,
“It’s tricky because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space and also wanting to use your platform and influence. I can take things for granted because of my family – it’s so free and you can be anything that you want to be. I’m attracted to men and also to women. If I bring a woman home, [or]a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion.”

“I get text messages from friends that are like, ‘Would you please let Janelle know I came out to my family because of her?’ I think that work is really helping people and probably saving some lives.”
Reports that they were dating started Tessa was Janelle’s love interest in Janelle’s Dirty Computer in February.

Happy Birthday Tessa Thompson!

Taylor Swift Sparks Engagement Rumors After Rocking A Huge Sparkler After 'SNL'!

Taylor Swift has her 'Swifties' swirling this morning after she wore what to appears to be an engagement type ring, during a rare public outing with her boyfriend.
Swift, was out on the town celebrating her 'SNL' performance on Saturday night in NYC.
Like usual, Taylor joined the cast for it's after party at Zuma in NYC. The singer showed up to the event hand in hand with her boyfriend actor Joe Alwyn.
Taylor's fans, the 'Swifties,' noticed a sparkling ring on her finger, and the engagement rumors started flying.

Obviously, the ring is not on THAT finger, but maybe she knew what the reaction would be if she wore on at all? Plus, the ring looks like it was plucked out of the engagement ring section of the jewelry store.
Taylor's fans have been putting together the possible nuptials of the couple based on some of her recent song lyrics. Like in the song "Lover," Swifties believe Taylor is giving an interpretation of the marriage vows "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health."

Her lyrics are "I want to drive away with you/I want your complications too/I want your dreary Mondays/Wrap your arms around me, baby boy."
Is she telling us something? It's not clear...but we imagine when these two are engaged we may get a few easter eggs to figure out like this one.

Misdemeanor Domestic Battery Charge Against Stacey Dash Dropped!
Stacey Dash has been cleared of a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and her husband, Jeffrey Marty seems to be happy about it.
He tweeted Thursday (Oct. 3),“Today, the State Attorney made the right call by declining to file charges against my wife, @staceydash. She was arrested over my objection at the time, but due to the pending investigation, I waited to comment until now. We both look forward to getting this behind us.”
Interestingly enough, Marty used to be a public defender, and currently oversees criminal defense cases at West Pasco Judicial Center.
The charges were dropped after the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office investigated, and determined that Dash did not commit a crime, despite a deputy arresting her earlier this week.

Assistant State Attorney Bryan Sarabia said, “After we completed our investigation, we determined there was not a criminal offense to prosecute.”
This is certainly a different account than what was written on Dash’s arrest report. That document claimed that Dash had a disagreement with their husband in their Tampa, Fl. apartment. She allegedly pushed him and slapped him in the face, leaving
“red stretch marks to his left upper arm.”

Sarabia said of the report,
“The deputy obviously thought that he had probable cause and it would appear that he did. But after I watched all the body-worn cameras and I read all the reports and I spoke to Mr. Marty, I determined there was not a criminal offense to prosecute.”
He added that Marty was surprised Dash was taken into custody, and that Marty attended her first court appearance and insisted that she was innocent.

Do you think the charges should have been dropped?

Travis Scott Denies Cheating On Kylie Jenner!
Travis Scott is putting the rumors to rest.

In the wake of his breakup with Kylie Jenner, the Astroworld rapper is addressing reports that he cheated on his ex.
“It’s really affecting when u see false things said about u once again these false stories about me cheating are just simply not true,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories Friday.
“Focusing on life, music, and family at this moment is what’s real,” added Travis, who also dropped his new single and video “Highest in the Room” on Friday.
Following their split, rumors began circulating that Scott had been cheating with Rojean Kar. The Instagram model, who goes by YungSweetRo on Instagram, has also refuted the cheating allegations.
“None of these rumors are true, it’s just the internet creating a false narrative,” she wrote on her private Instagram account. “Please stop spreading lies & leave us alone because it’s affecting real lives. Thank you.”
“Travis and i are on great terms and our main focus right now is Stormi ‼️ our friendship and our daughter is priority,” the beauty mogul tweeted earlier in the week.

She also shot down claims that she is hooking up with her ex Tyga. “The internet makes everything 100 times more dramatic than what it really is. There was no ‘2am date with Tyga,'” tweeted Kylie. “You see me drop two of my friends off at a studio that he happened to be at.”

Cardi B Blasts Publication In Explosive Rant: 'Imma Spit At You'!
Cardi B may have gotten used to publications "using her name for clickbait," but when it comes to outlets using her 14-month-old daughter's name for clicks, the "Press" rapper is understandably not okay with that.

After Access shared a misleading, inaccurate, and since-deleted video titled "Cardi B Admits Baby Kulture Calls Someone Else Mommy Because She Works So Much," accusing the 26-year-old rapper of putting her career and various business ventures before her child, Cardi took to Instagram Live to defend herself. However, the Bronx native's expletive-ridden rant turned into a problematic one after she crossed the line with a controversial comment.

Here's what went down:

Cardi first began her IG Live by explaining that she was mad because a publication painted her as a bad mom. She told fans she recently did an interview with Access Hollywood for her upcoming Netflix show, Rhythm + Flow, and they asked about how her life has changed since she became a mom and how she balances it all.

Her answer, which she recalled on Instagram Live: "A lot of people expect me to be in the studio, and then I gotta do other sh*t, like I filmed for Rhythm + Flow, I filmed for Hustlers, I'm working on f**king Fashion Nova [...] I'm sorry if I take time of my day that I could be five hours in the studio, but I spending five hours with my kid because I could have somebody babysit my f**king kid but it's a wack feeling when your kid not even trying to f**k with you and try to call somebody else mommy. That's why you gotta spend time with your kids."

However, the Hustlers star said they "chopped up" the interview, cut her explanation off and concocted a completely different story to make her look like a bad mom. "Don't use my motherf**king kid for f**king clickbait. Don't cut sh*t off and try to make me look like I'm a f**k sh*t mom," she warned, before saying she plans to spit on Access Hollywood staff when she sees them in the future. "Access Hollywood, suck my whole d*ck. Suck a d*ck. I hope your f**king mom catch AIDS, b*tch."

After issuing a few more NSFW comments, she then declared that she will "never again do press."
Hours later, the "Writing On The Wall" rapper went on Twitter to partly apologize, writing, "Ok guys I feel better now .Sorry for the bullsh*t ....whew Chile I haven’t been this mad since WHAT WAS THE REASON ? ‼️😤."
"You see I been workin my a** off doing my sh*t .I go out I do press run people took my kindness for weakness I felt violated I said how I felt now I am THE INDUSTRY WICKED WITCH AGAIN 😐🙄," she continued. "This is why I don’t be talking or socializing cause it always end up bad for Cardi !"

The Invasion of Privacy rapper then said she plans to delete her social media accounts after he birthday because she's "just OVER IT." And while many people attacked Cardi over her "mom catch AIDS" comment, many fans supported her for sticking up for herself and her daughter.

Wendy Williams Must Pay Ex Kevin Hunter THOUSANDS In Divorce!
Wendy Williams is being forced to pay up in her divorce!

According to Page Six, the 55-year-old talk show host and her estranged husband Kevin Hunter "have come to an interim financial agreement as part of their divorce proceedings" that will require Wendy to pay Kevin $250,000.

Per court documents, which were obtained by the outlet, Wendy's ex must use the funds to “secure new living arrangements.” Being that the money is for new housing, Kevin has to "vacate their marital home in Livingston, New Jersey, which was put up for sale over the summer."

Wendy has not lived at the resident for some time. Shortly after she filed for divorce from Kevin in April, she moved into a high-rise Manhattan apartment that reportedly costs $15,000 per month.

As fans know, Wendy has been living her best life since she split from Kevin. The host finally pulled the plug on her marriage after Kevin welcomed a baby girl with his mistress.

Earlier this week, the Wendy Williams Show host took the opportunity to throw a tree-sized amount of shade at her ex and his mistress during her infamous "Hot Topics" segment. "I only said this as a joke during Hot Topics: 'poke a hole in the condom and get pregnant.' But that backfired on me, didn't it?" Wendy told her audience, referencing Kevin's affair and lovechild. "Okay, now. Alls I'm saying is turnabout's a fair game. I'm a fair game player and straight shooter too. Pow pow."

"Life is not what you think it is behind the scenes. Trust me. Homegirl is miserable," Wendy added before imitating her husband's mistress rocking a baby. "In the meantime, I'm over here... you know. That's what you get!" she said as she pointed at the camera.

Los Angeles Sparks Fire GM Penny Toler After Repeatedly Using The N-Word!
The Los Angeles Sparks has let go of executive vice president and general manager Penny Toler, it was announced Friday morning.
According to ESPN, just last season the Sparks were swept out of the WNBA semifinals, a series in which sources said Toler gave a fiery speech to the team after Game 2 that included the “N-word” on multiple occasions.

“By no means did I call my players the N-word,” Toler told ESPN days before her departure. “I’m not saying that I couldn’t have used it in a context. But it wasn’t directed at any of my players.”
“It’s unfortunate I used that word. I shouldn’t. Nobody should. … But you know, like I said, I’m not here to defend word by word by word what I said. I know some of the words that I’m being accused of are embellished. Did I give a speech that I hoped would get our team going? Yes.”
She continued, “I think that this whole conversation has been taken out of context because when we lose, emotions are running high and, unfortunately and obviously, some people feel some type of way.”
Toler has been the Sparks’ GM since 1999 and has been a part of three WNBA championships (2001, 2002, 2016); Toler also scored the first points in the league’s history as a professional player in 1997.

Sparks governor Eric Holoman said in a statement, “On behalf of ownership and the entire Sparks organization, I’d like to thank Penny Toler for a successful and historic tenure with the organization.”
“Penny is a foundational figure in the growth of the WNBA and helped lead our franchise to perennial playoff success and multiple titles.”
