Frank Ocean for W Magazine Oct 2019!
Frank Ocean Makes Moves Like Nobody Else. All along, Frank Ocean has been hiding in plain sight. Not on the sites populating your feed, perhaps, because he releases songs and tours sparingly, rewrites music industry conventions with stealth precision, and flouts celebrity social media paradigms at will. But for all the talk of how enigmatic he is, the 31-year-old singer-songwriter has shared more about what moves, drives, and undoes him than pretty much any of his peers. Just listen to “Self Control.” Or “Ivy.” Or other songs on his autobiographical Blonde, the last album he released, in August 2016, which catapulted him to icon status and confirmed his reign as one of the most influential artists of the decade, among the first to blend R&B, soul, rap, rock, and electronic music. In 2012, the year he released his major label debut album, Channel Orange, and was nominated for six Grammys, he revealed in a Tumblr letter that his first love had been a man, an unusually open admission for a black male artist at the time.
He is, in any case, hardly a recluse:
On this steamy late-July evening in New York, he pulls up to the SoHo hotel lobby where we are meeting on his bright green racing bike, helmet in hand. On his wrist is a Richard Mille Bonbon watch with a green band, its face decorated with neon sliced fruit and mini candies. He had ridden here, he tells me, after first stopping off for a vegan Cubano on the Lower East Side. For several years Ocean moved from city to city, renting houses or staying in hotels, but now he owns a place in New York. He rarely gives interviews or makes public statements, and the silent lapses that regularly follow his musical releases (he took four years between Channel Orange and Blonde) ignite fervent, constant speculation from his fans.

Ocean wears a Prada jacket.

He was born Christopher Edwin Breaux and grew up in New Orleans, where he was raised by his mother. (His father left the family when Frank was 6.) His uncles, aunts, and cousins lived nearby; his maternal grandfather, a former addict, was a mentor at AA and NA, and he sometimes accompanied his grandfather to meetings. Ocean remembers that he wrote instead of talking a lot of the time. “It was more comfortable,” he says. To book studio time, he worked various odd jobs before heading to Los Angeles, where he began writing songs for Justin Bieber, John Legend, and Brandy. In 2009, he signed to Def Jam, but the label largely ignored him until his self-released debut mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra (2011), raised a ruckus online. By then, he had met Tyler, the Creator and found a kindred spirit in the Odd Future collective and its DIY sensibility. On his way to surprise-releasing the visual streaming album Endless for Def Jam, in 2016, and the experimental Blonde, he hatched a plan to buy himself out of his contract and gain back ownership of his master recordings.
In the intervening three years, Ocean released a number of singles—“Chanel,” “Biking,” “Provider,” and a wrenching cover of the ’60s ballad “Moon River”—and showed up at Paris Fashion Week, the Met Gala, and Marc Jacobs’s wedding. Still, until we sat down, he had offered no glimpse of his next album or any other projects. As to whether he had any release dates in mind, he simply answered, “No.” One thing he made certain: He’s on Frank Ocean time, and so are we.

What are you looking at and thinking about these days?

I’ve been interested in club, and the many different iterations of nightlife for music and songs. And so the things I look at now have a lot to do with those scenes: Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic…

Is there a specific subculture or scene that has long influenced you?

I grew up in New Orleans, so the closest to the nightlife scene for me was New Orleans bounce, and that was a lot of trends. But it’s so much a part of my childhood and my youth that I don’t really go back to it so much as a touch point. I’m really looking forward. It’s kind of a mix for me.
What were you like as a kid in middle school, growing up in New Orleans?

I was outside, always. I was pretty precocious. In New Orleans you live really close to your family. My uncle lived down the street, my cousins, and my older cousin, my auntie lived a few blocks way. And we didn’t, you know, have a ton of money. So let’s say one month the water’s off or one month the power’s off down the street. My cousins would be at the house with me for that time. And my friends would be there a lot. It was just the hangout in the neighborhood. I liked that.

Bernie Sanders has heart procedure, and had canceled campaign events!
Bernie Sanders’ campaign said Wednesday that the Democratic presidential candidate had a heart procedure for a blocked artery and was canceling events and appearances “until further notice.”
The 78-year-old Sanders experienced chest discomfort during an event Tuesday and sought medical evaluation, according to a campaign statement. It said two stents were “successfully inserted” and that Sanders “is conversing and in good spirits.”

His campaign manager, Faiz Shakir, was on a telephone call with supporters Tuesday night but didn’t mention any health concerns about the candidate. Shakir said the “state of the campaign is strong” and he played up Sanders’ strong fundraising total for the third quarter.
Sanders was among 10 Democratic candidates scheduled to appear later Wednesday at a forum on gun control in Las Vegas. He recently canceled some appearances in South Carolina because he lost his voice. The campaign said at the time he felt fine.

The Democratic field’s oldest candidate, Sanders sometimes jokingly refers to his age at town halls and other events, especially when interacting with younger participants. His aides have tried to project him as a candidate with energy levels that surpassed his 2016 presidential campaign.

He is one of three candidates over age 70 in the Democratic primary, which has spurred debate over whether the party should rally behind a new generation of political leaders. His health scare is certain to revive that discussion in the weeks before the next presidential debate this month.
Sanders’ 2016 campaign nearly overtook Hillary Clinton for the party’s nomination. He is a top contender in the 2020 primary, and announced Tuesday that he raised more than $25 million over the past three months. But he is facing stiff competition from former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who have overtaken him in many polls.

Sanders is not the first candidate to face health issues in recent years while seeking the presidency. Clinton had to take time off from campaigning in 2016 after being treated for pneumonia.
In 2000, former New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley, the leading Democratic challenger to then-Vice President Al Gore, had to cut short a campaign swing for treatment of an atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that is treatable but potentially serious. Bradley later resumed his campaign.

In Sanders’ case, when doctors insert a stent, they first thread a tiny balloon inside a blocked artery to widen it. The stent is a small wire mesh tube that then is propped inside to keep the artery open. The number of stents needed depends on the size of the clog.

The treatment can immediately improve symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath. The stents are threaded into place through blood vessels in the groin or wrist, requiring only a tiny incision. Most are coated with medication to prevent the targeted artery from reclosing. That is still a risk, requiring monitoring, and patients also often are prescribed blood thinners to prevent clots from forming in the stents.

A letter released by Sanders’ physician in 2016 cited a history of mildly elevated cholesterol but no heart disease.

BeyoncΓ©'s Father Mathew Knowles Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis!
Mathew Knowles is opening up about his fight with breast cancer. The father of musicians BeyoncΓ© and Solange Knowles sat down with Good Morning America's Michael Strahan for an exclusive interview on Wednesday morning, which was teased a day earlier on Twitter.

Over the summer, he noticed a small, reoccurring blood stain on his shirts. "I I told my wife and she says, 'You know I saw a dot of blood on the sheets,' so I immediately went to my doctor," Matthew, wed to Gena Charmaine Avery, said. "I got a mammogram and then it was very clear that I had breast cancer." (The businessman divorced Tina Knowles in 2011 after 30 years of marriage, but the two have an amicable relationship.)
His initial reaction was one of confusion. "Of all the things I could get, why would I get this?" he told the GMA host. "From a man's perspective, I'm thinking, 'Why me?'"

Genetic testing showed Matthew has the mutated BRCA2 gene, which also puts him at a higher risk for prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer and melanoma.
"The rest of my life I have to be very much aware and conscious and do all of the early detection," the 67-year-old said. "Constant mammograms, constant prostate exams, constant MRIs for the rest of my life."
Throughout this journey, his family has been right by his side. Indeed, they were his first call following his diagnosis.  "It's genetics," Matthew shared. "It's also means that my kids have a higher chance, a higher risk. Even my grandkids have a higher risk. And they handled it like they should. They went and got the test."

Today, nearly three months since his July surgery, he's feeling stronger than ever. "I stopped drinking," he admitted to the former NFL star. "I wanted to just have a clean bill of health and do things, exercise, meditate...I just look at the world differently."
And now, he hopes he can encourage other men to not only get checked, but also speak up.

"I learned again that the numbers that we have for men on breast cancer are not adequate because we don't have enough men that come forward, that take the exam," Matthew revealed. "I'm hoping by me coming here today, speaking out, letting folks know that you can survive this, but it has to be early detection. And I can't overemphasize the word early."

Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott Split!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are suing Mail on Sunday over publishing of a private letter!
Prince Harry has announced he and Meghan Markle will take legal action against Daily Mail and Mail On Sunday’s publisher, Associated Newspapers.
He claims a private letter from the Sussexes was released unlawfully, which violates the Data Protection Act of 2018, before comparing the treatment of his wife in the press to that of Princess Diana.
Prince Harry is suing Associated Newspapers, the publisher of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday in the UK, over their publishing of a private letter from Meghan Markle.

In a statement, the Duke of Sussex said he and Meghan were forced to take action against "relentless propaganda", with Law firm Schillings, acting for the duchess, accusing the newspaper publishers of the misuse of private information, infringement of copyright, and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.

In the lengthy and heartfelt statement, Harry said Meghan was "one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press", touching on the many "false and malicious" reports they've had to face. He then detailed how his "deepest fear" was Meghan "falling victim to the same powerful forces" as his mother, Princess Diana.

The full statement on The Sussexes’ official website is as follows:

“Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son.
"There is a human cost to this relentless propaganda, specifically when it is knowingly false and malicious, and though we have continued to put on a brave face – as so many of you can relate to – I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been. Because in today’s digital age, press fabrications are repurposed as truth across the globe. One day’s coverage is no longer tomorrow’s chip-paper.

"Up to now, we have been unable to correct the continual misrepresentations - something that these select media outlets have been aware of and have therefore exploited on a daily and sometimes hourly basis.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, royal tour, Africa, The Duke and Duchess Of Sussex
"It is for this reason we are taking legal action, a process that has been many months in the making. The positive coverage of the past week from these same publications exposes the double standards of this specific press pack that has vilified her almost daily for the past nine months; they have been able to create lie after lie at her expense simply because she has not been visible while on maternity leave. She is the same woman she was a year ago on our wedding day, just as she is the same woman you’ve seen on this Africa tour.

"This particular legal action hinges on one incident in a long and disturbing pattern of behaviour by British tabloid media. The contents of a private letter were published unlawfully in an intentionally destructive manner to manipulate you, the reader, and further the divisive agenda of the media group in question. In addition to their unlawful publication of this private document, they purposely misled you by strategically omitting select paragraphs, specific sentences, and even singular words to mask the lies they had perpetuated for over a year.

"Though this action may not be the safe one, it is the right one. Because my deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.

"We thank you, the public, for your continued support. It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it."

In response to the legal action, a Mail on Sunday spokesperson said: "The Mail on Sunday stands by the story it published and will be defending this case vigorously. Specifically, we categorically deny that the Duchess's letter was edited in any way that changed its meaning."

Jazz Jennings Delays Starting at Harvard So She Can 'Recenter to Be the Strongest Version' of Herself
People!
Jazz Jennings won’t be attending Harvard classes this fall, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be forgoing her arrival in Cambridge, Massachusetts forever.
“I wanted to share some news,” the TLC star, 18, wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“After careful consideration I have decided to take a break before starting at Harvard,” Jennings said. “It wasn’t an easy decision but it is the right one for me. These past few years have been so full and busy that I realized I could use some time to refocus and recenter to be the strongest version of myself.”

The LGBTQ+ activist continued, “I am so grateful to have the support of my parents and Harvard in making this decision and look forward to focusing on some self-care and getting prepared to start this exciting next chapter in my life❤️.”
After announcing in May that she got into the Ivy League school and planned to attend this fall, Jennings admitted that she was “nervous” about what college would do to her mental health.

“I’m nervous. I feel like college is going to be a great place for me to step out of my shell, be independent, and build new routines and habits and ways of living,” Jennings said in a June interview with Thrive Global.

“It’s also a place where I can feel that anxiety and depression to an even greater degree than I do now, because there’s so much going on all the time,” she continued. “You want to be involved in everything, but school’s stressful in and of itself. I’ll be studying for tests and exams and trying to be the best I can be. In high school, I always got straight As, because I put that pressure on myself.”
At the time, Jennings told the outlet that she wanted “to focus on taking care of myself and building good habits — that’s really my focus” — and it sounds like she will be doing just that during her break before starting at the prestigious school.

In May, Jennings shared a photo of herself rocking a Harvard sweatshirt, writing in the Instagram caption, “I am so stoked for this next chapter of my life!☺️ Feeling so blessed and grateful right nowπŸ™πŸ½❤️ Thank you so much to my incredible family for your unconditional love and support; none of this would be possible without all of you. I can’t wait for what’s to come!πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸŒŸ

After @theshaderoom posted an update about a Virginia teenager who claimed her white students cut her dreadlocks and then later admitted to making up the story, poet and philanthropist Derrick Jaxn commented: “Jussie really is a trendsetter,” referring to Jussie‘s ongoing legal battle with the city of Chicago over his alleged hate crime.
Jussie reacted with a comment: “With all due respect brother, y’all can clown me all you want but my story has actually never changed and I haven’t lied about a thing. Y’all can continue to be misinformed, internalized sheep, who believe what actual proven liars feed you or you can read the actual docs. Either way, Imma be alright. I know me and what happened. You don’t. So carry on. All love,” he wrote.

Safaree Samuels And Erica Mena Are Expecting A Baby!
The “Love & Hip Hop: New York” stars have confirmed that they are expecting their first child together. They revealed the exciting news in a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired video obtained by E! News.
“Wow, wow, it’s a big deal! Very big deal. I didn’t know I was capable of doing this but I’m excited!” said Safaree while rubbing Mena’s belly.
Safaree admits that he’s excited and nervous about becoming a dad. “I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’m in shock. I’m in disbelief. It’s like very surreal to me,” he said. “I don’t know what the hell to do, but I know I’m going to be great at what I do because I’m great at everything.”

Safaree already has big plans for his first born. “This baby will come out of the womb working,” he joked. “I was working very early. I’m about to pull a [DJ] Khaled. This baby, as soon as it comes out, we are working.”

Samuels, who previously dated Nicki Minaj, proposed to Mena last Christmas Eve at her house in Atlanta. According to Page Six, the couple will tie the knot next week and the cameras for their VH1 show will be rolling.
This will be Samuels’ first child. Mena has a 12-year-old son, King Conde, from a previous relationship with Raul Conde.

Uncle Luke Calls Jay-Z ‘Token Black Guy,’ Piles on Fresh Criticism of Super Bowl 2020 Halftime Show Headliners!
The 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell has been upset with Jay-Z ever since it was announced that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are playing the halftime show at Super Bowl LIV, which takes place in Miami.
Campbell first wrote an op-ed piece in the Miami New Times that was published on Monday, where he criticized the Brooklyn-raised rapper.

Because in August, it was announced that Jay and his company Roc Nation would be handling the NFL’s entertainment, as well as halftime shows and he’d be working on a series of social justice initiatives with the league.
Campbell’s main beef is that an artist from Miami wasn’t chosen, and he feels disrespected because Jay didn’t personally consult with him about who would perform. The 2 Live Crew member also said local artists like Flo Rida, Rick Ross and Pitbull should’ve been tapped instead.
On top of that, Campbell said that black folks are being disrespected by Lopez and Shakira being named to perform, who he says doesn’t do anything for the local community.

“On the NFL Network, league officials said the show is going to promote Latin culture because Miami is all about Hispanic people,” he wrote. “That’s a slap in the face to the African-American community, which includes a diverse mix of Bahamian, Jamaican, and Haitian people.”
The 58-year-old then expounded on his op-ed during an interview on TMZ, which was published on Tuesday.

“They’re basically showing that, you know, ‘Hey look, let me go get a token black guy, throw him out there,'” Campbell stated. “It was specifically said that Jay-Z was going to advise the NFL on systemic racism and entertainment. Right now that’s an F.”
“And if he does not resign or they don’t make this right, then they’re actually using him,” he added. “Then he could be really considered as what a lot of people said, it was a sellout deal from the jump.”

But when Lopez and Shakira were announced as the Super Bowl halftime show performers last week, it was also reported that other acts will be playing too. But those artists haven’t been named yet.

Rankin is probably best known for his role as Ox in the 1998 film “Belly,” starring Nas and DMX, where he played a big-time drug dealer.
TMZ reports that Rankin’s vehicle collided with a truck on Highway 89, and there was another vehicle involved as well. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a photo of the collision showed Rankin’s vehicle completely mangled. But the driver of the truck didn’t suffer any injuries.

Nas acknowledged Rankin’s death on Monday night and posted a photo of themselves standing with DJ Khaled. The shot is from Rankin’s appearance in the video for the New York rapper’s song “Nas Album Done,” off Khaled’s 2016 “Major Key” album.

“Louie Rankin. Great working with this man,” wrote Nas. “A legend. In Belly you stole the show. “You Wana Rump with bombaclot me??!” In @djkhaled video Nas Album Done, your presence was super live wire much needed. RIP Don Dada.”

Three Latino Men Arrested After Shooting Black Photographer Who Told Them To Stop Using The N-Word!
Phoenix police arrested three Latino men who reportedly shot a Black photographer after he told them to stop using the n-word.
On Sept. 12, a 33-year-old man was taking photos at Encanto Park when two men and one boy, 18-year-old Ricardo Mendoza-Sanchez, 18-year-old Angel Ortega Romero and unarmed 17-year-old Angel Ortega Romero, asked the photographer to take a photo of them. After taking the photo, the group then started to yell racial slurs at him.
When he told them not to use that language, the men proceeded to shoot him nine times. Police say the photographer suffered serious injuries, but he has since started to recover. Footage via Fox 10 Phoenix recorded the anonymous victim saying, “My man, I told you, you can’t say the N-word, you’re not black.” One suspect replied, “I say what the [expletive] I want.” The victim answered with, “No, you cannot…not in front of me.”

The men shot him right after the exchange. “I’m here because of the blessing of God,” the victim told ABC15. “I’m here because I have a purpose on earth.” Mendoza-Sanchez was arrested on Sept. 17, and the other two were arrested on Sept. 25. When Romero was being arrested, he pulled a gun on the police, but the weapon was taken before he could use it. Authorities performed a search warrant for two homes where police found methamphetamine, four handguns, and a ballistic vest.

The shooters face possible charges of aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, resisting arrest, and gang activity. Police were able to track down the men because of the photo the victim took. “I would just ask them why?” the victim added. “Why they did it? I was nothing but nice to them.”
