The Daily Buzz For March 14 ☕πŸ“°☕

Mary J. Blige has gorgeous pictures For Ebony’s March Issue!
Check out the reigning queen of hip hop soul—Mary J. Blige—for EBONY Magazine’s March Issue. The two-time Oscar nominated actress and songwriter is watching the throne on the new cover with fashion’s selected by ANTM judge Law Roach and her signature blond tresses by celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims.

“She is a classy street chick who wore torn jeans and a baseball caps. All of a sudden— with the flick of a mascara wand and swipe of a lip liner  she could transform into a glam cover girl” That’s Our Mary,” says EBONY on Instagram.
Look for Mary to star in the new Netflix movie The Umbrella Academy. She’ll be portraying Cha-Cha, a ruthless and unorthodox hit woman who travels through time to kill assigned targets. Even though she has a few gripes about the bureaucracy of her employers, this job is her life.
Blige will also be headlining with Janet Jackson this summer at ESSENCE Fest.

Theoretical and Brilliant physicist Stephen Hawking has died at 76!
LONDON — Stephen Hawking, whose brilliant mind ranged across time and space though his body was paralyzed by disease, has died, a family spokesman said early today.

"He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years," his children Lucy, Robert and Tim said in a statement.
The best-known theoretical physicist of his time, Hawking wrote so lucidly of the mysteries of space, time and black holes that his book, A Brief History of Time, became an international bestseller, making him one of science’s biggest celebrities since Albert Einstein.

Even though his body was attacked by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, when Hawking was 21, he stunned doctors by living with the normally fatal illness for more than 50 years. A severe attack of pneumonia in 1985 left him breathing through a tube, forcing him to communicate through an electronic voice synthesizer that gave him his distinctive robotic monotone.

But he continued his scientific work, appeared on television and married for a second time.
As one of Isaac Newton’s successors as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, Hawking was involved in the search for the great goal of physics — a "unified theory."

Such a theory would resolve the contradictions between Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity, which describes the laws of gravity that govern the motion of large objects like planets, and the Theory of Quantum Mechanics, which deals with the world of subatomic particles.
For Hawking, the search was almost a religious quest — he said finding a "theory of everything" would allow mankind to "know the mind of God."

"A complete, consistent unified theory is only the first step: our goal is a complete understanding of the events around us, and of our own existence," he wrote in A Brief History of Time.
In later years, though, he suggested a unified theory might not exist.

He followed up A Brief History of Time in 2001 with the more accessible sequel The Universe in a Nutshell, updating readers on concepts like super gravity, naked singularities and the possibility of an 11-dimensional universe.
Hawking said belief in a God who intervenes in the universe "to make sure the good guys win or get rewarded in the next life" was wishful thinking.

"But one can’t help asking the question: Why does the universe exist?" he said in 1991. "I don’t know an operational way to give the question or the answer, if there is one, a meaning. But it bothers me."
The combination of his best-selling book and his almost total disability — for a while he could use a few fingers, later he could only tighten the muscles on his face — made him one of science’s most recognizable faces.

He made cameo television appearances in The Simpsons and Star Trek and counted among his fans U2 guitarist The Edge, who attended a January 2002 celebration of Hawking’s 60th birthday.
His early life was chronicled in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything, with Eddie Redmayne winning the best actor Academy Award for his portrayal of the scientist. The film focused still more attention on Hawking’s remarkable achievements.

Some colleagues credited that celebrity with generating new enthusiasm for science.

His achievements, and his longevity, also helped prove to many that even the most severe disabilities need not stop patients from living.

#EMPIRE: Serayah talks about being Tiana on EMPIRE with Rolling Out!
Serayah just oozes positivity. She recently gave an interview to Rolling Out magazine about her roll as Tiana on the TV Hit Drama ‘EMPIRE’. Here’s an excerpt from the interview. On “Empire, ” Tiana has had several songs and is actually valuable to the label, so Serayah has been able to practice her craft and get paid. Another bonus for the triple threat who also dances is working with choreographer Jamaica Craft, who has been behind the moves of both Ciara and Usher. Soon, she plans to unleash an album of her own and already has the Jazze Pha-produced “Driving Me” circulating.

For an up-and-coming female artist, “Empire” is an especially amazing gig. Mariah Carey, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige have all guest starred. On top of that, superproducers Timbaland and Rodney Jerkins have guided the music. It’s been a fast ride for Serayah, and the impact was immediate.

“Everything was just kind of surreal for a long time. Going from one extreme to the next. Being on TV and meeting these people and all of the sudden going to award shows and all of the sudden performing at award shows. Everything was happening so fast. Before I knew it, I had done a lot of things just within a year,” she shares. Like so many other young women today, Serayah owns who she is and isn’t afraid to bask in her own power. That is more due to the many women who’ve come before her, she says. Growing up, Rihanna and Pink made a huge impact. “They were like, ‘I am going to do what’s me because I want to and I’m a person, ’” she explains. “I don’t think it was about being a woman. It was like, ‘I’ve gone through this and that’s okay. ’ It is kind of like a movement, which is really awesome.” Cool You can get the full interview over at Rolling Out!

Does Rihanna wants to make peace with Chris Brown?
Now that the Barbadian beauty Rihanna has turned 30, she has created a list of goals she wants to accomplish — and one goal concerns troubled singer Chris Brown.
In late February, the sexy songstress celebrated her birthday with a celebrity-filled bash in New York city with her family posted up strong.

Legendary singer Toni Braxton performed and RiRi’s billionaire boyfriend, Hassan Jameel, was said to be all over her the entire evening.
A source close to the “Rude Boy” singer spoke to Hollywood Life and said that after the big day, Rihanna wrote down a list of all the things she hopes to accomplish in the next few years.

Rihanna would love to get married, start a family, and make peace with Brown. The pair split after Brown assaulted Rihanna in early 2009. And while they briefly reunited, they were never able to rekindle that old love they had for whatever reason.
An insider told Hollywood Life: “Rihanna made a long list of goals after turning 30 this month. At the top of her list is getting finally married and starting a family. Dropping a new album, go on tour and being more creative in all avenues of her life. What also made a list was to make peace with some things in her past, including her history with Chris Brown.”

The person added: “Rihanna is madly in love with Hassan, and she is starting to plan for a future with him. This is the first guy since Chris that’s made her feel this way like she wants to settle down. She and Hassan mostly meet up in Europe; it is a good midway point for them. But now she is talking about making it her full-time base so she can have even more time with him.”

According to the family friend, the couple is not in a rush to get married or start a family.
The pal claimed: “They are serious, and now that Rihanna has hit the big 3-0 she is thinking about stuff like marriage and family a lot more. She always thought she would have several children by this age, so that is on her mind now too. She and Hassan are not rushing into anything, but that is where her head is going. It seems like she has met her Prince Charming.”

Gabrielle Dennis Cast As Whitney Houston In ‘The Bobby Brown Story’
Gabrielle Dennis has been cast to portray Whitney Houston in BET’s two-party miniseries, “The Bobby Brown Story.”
The “Rosewood” actress took to Instagram to share her excitement about the role. She added that she’s praying she does the late icon “justice.”

So excited for this opportunity. Huge thanks to @iamrobireed who saw something in me and put me in the mix for this ICONIC role and thanks to all who had a hand in this decision…praying I do her justice.

Here’s the scoop via Deadline: “The New Edition Story” broke BET ratings records when it aired in January 2017, and “The Bobby Brown Story” picks up where that pic left off, following Brown’s successful solo run.

Woody McClain is reprising his role as Brown, one of the genre’s original “bad boys” whose life epitomizes the meaning of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. His hits may have kept him at the top of the charts, but his antics kept him on the front page. Production on the mini began this week in Atlanta.

‘The Voice’ Tops ‘American Idol’, Which Drops In Night 2 Ratings!
Monday was a Clash of the Titans night, with tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams facing off in Indian Wells and the two biggest signing competitions on American television this century, The Voice and American Idol, going at each other head to head. It was the 19th meeting between the Williams sisters, which was won by Venus, and the eighth face-off between Idol and The Voice.

It was the incumbent, NBC’s The Voice (2.3 rating in adults 18-49, 11.72 million viewers), that came out victorious, topping ABC’s Idol revival (1.8, 8.36 million) by 28% in the demo and almost 3.4 million viewers. It was only the second time The Voice has outperformed Idol when airing opposite each other — in the first seven times the two faced each other while Idol was on Fox, only once, in May 2014, did The Voice manage to edge its older counterpart by a small margin.
The presence of another music reality series barely affected The Voice, whose preliminary demo delivery was off by less than a tenth from the fast national last Monday, which rounded up to 2.4, and up by 2% in total viewers.

Meanwhile, Idol was down 22% in the demo from its ABC premiere on Sunday (2.2) to mark the series’ lowest Week 2 showing. It also was down by the same amount from The Bachelor finale, which ran on ABC last Monday. Idol, which will only have a few airings on Monday, did improve on ABC’s 8-10 PM season averages in 18-49 and total viewers and gave a lead-in boost to The Good Doctor (1.8, 9.8 million). After a preemption for the three-hour The Bachelor finale last week, the freshman medical drama, already renewed for a second season, was up 38% in 18-49 and 26% in total viewers from its last original to post its best numbers since November.

Overall, NBC edged ABC (1.9 vs. 1.8 in 18-49, 9.4 million vs. 8.8 million) to reclaim top Monday honors that went to ABC last week on the strength of The Bachelor closer.

Does this spell trouble for American Idol going forward?

T.I. and Tiny Drop Over $1 Million to Help Pay Back Taxes
T.I. and Tiny just teamed up to settle a gigantic debt they owed to Uncle Sam by making a payment of over a million bucks.
According to a Certificate of Release of Federal Tax Lien filed by the IRS on March 5 and obtained by website The Blast, T.I. and his wife paid off their tax lien of $1,397,283.47.
The debt was attributed to income the couple earned in 2012.  Good news for Tiny, she’s now in the clear.  Unfortunately for the “Rubberband Man” rapper, he is still on the hook for a 2013 lien for $3,173,476.39 and a 2014 lien for $1,640,664.90 that have not yet been settled.

#POLITICS: Trump FIRES Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, replaces him with Mike Pompeo!
President Trump has removed Rex Tillerson as secretary of state and replaced him with current CIA Director Mike Pompeo, after months of speculation surrounding Tillerson's role in the Trump administration, a fact that Tillerson found out at the same time as the public.
Mr. Trump announced the news of Tillerson's ouster on Twitter, thanking him for his service. The Washington Post first reported news of Tillerson's firing, shortly before the president's tweet.

Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!

"Rex and I have been talking about this for a long time. We got along actually quite well, but we disagreed on things," he said. "When you look at the Iran deal -- I think it's terrible. I guess he thought it was OK. I wanted to either break it or do something. And he felt a little bit differently. So we were not really thinking the same."

News of Tillerson's departure from the State Department came as the secretary arrived in Washington early Tuesday morning after his overseas visit to Africa. There, he reaffirmed the U.S. - Africa relationship in spite of alleged vulgar comments made by the president about immigrations from African nations in January.

Mr. Trump released a statement shortly before leaving for his trip to California saying he was "proud" to nominate Pompeo to replace Tillerson.
"His experience in the military, Congress, and as leader of the CIA have prepared him well for his new role and I urge his swift confirmation," said Mr. Trump in a statement. He added, " want to thank Rex Tillerson for his service. A great deal has been accomplished over the last fourteen months, and I wish him and his family well."

According to the White House, Gina Haspel, the Deputy Director of the CIA, will be nominated to replace Director Pompeo. If confirmed, she would become the CIA's first female director. She was only recently named deputy director.
