The Daily Buzz For March 26 ☕πŸ“°☕

'TIME' Magazine's New Cover Features The Parkland Shooting Survivors!
Nine student survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting have shared diary entries from the aftermath of the massacre.

The teen survivors of last month’s horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have become the nation’s leading advocates for gun control, partly thanks to their savvy, heartfelt harnessing of social media. 17-year-old David Hogg has nearly 500K followers on Twitter, recently taking to the platform to find a challenger for the GOP candidate who called his schoolmate a “skinhead lesbian.” (He was successful, and the GOP candidate has now dropped out of the race.) Hogg’s slandered schoolmate, Emma GonzΓ‘lez, now boasts 1.26M Twitter followers, thanks in part to her viral speech calling out President Trump and gun advocates.

But it’s not just social media that the students are dominating. This morning, Time magazine shared its latest cover story, which features Hogg, GonzΓ‘lez, and three other MSD student activists, and bold white text reading “ENOUGH.” Nine of MSD’s approximately 3,000 students agreed to keep diaries in the aftermath of the shooting, and to share the entries with Time. The diaries are real, raw, and remind us that these are human teenagers, not superheroes. (Jaclyn Corin is even pictured barefoot.)

“I am not actually fine, but I don’t really want to get into it and they probably don’t want to hear about it,” writes Jose Iglesias, 17. “There are many people around the school who would definitely help if we wanted them to, but I feel like they only know things from their book. They didn’t actually go through what we did. My friends have been there for me since that day.”

Other entries describe the students’ hopes for the future. “I’ve always wanted to be a politician when I grow up,” writes Brandon Azbug, 17. “I’m definitely looking forward to voting. What I predict will happen — well, definitely in Broward County — is every politician who doesn’t act on changing the gun laws will be voted out. And I hope that the rest of the country will vote out people who aren’t willing to take the steps. Just because I can’t vote doesn’t mean I can’t make a difference.”

#RHoA: Did you know that the ‘RHOA’ Cast Still Has Issues With Porsha Williams? Well NeNe explains.
Nene Leakes is not here for people who think that the RHOA cast is treating Porsha Williams unfairly. If you’ve been tuning in to the current season, then you know that Porsha has been having more run-ins than anyone else on the cast. Porsha has also had to film many scenes with her sister because some of the ladies don’t want to deal with her.

Because of these things, some viewers feel that Porsha is being unfairly ostracized, but Nene Leakes says that’s just not true. According to Reality Tea, Nene Leakes believes that the cast members are justified in their feelings of Porsha.

“This season Porsha is really on an island,” said Leakes. “You know, there’s so many girls that have an issue with her. I think when the viewers watch the show- because I read the comments- a lot of people say ‘Why don’t they forgive Porsha? Why don’t they be friends with Porsha?'”
Nene continued, Well, Porsha has had issues with every girl. She had a physical altercation with Cynthia [Bailey], a physical altercation with Kenya [Moore], she and I had our issues, she and Kandi had their issues. I think with the girls are feeling, is you can say ‘I’m sorry,’ but they want to have meaning and feelings behind it.”

“Apologizing and really putting action to it are really two different things.”

Porsha Williams isn’t as close with her RHOA cast members as she used to be. Since season 10 of the hit reality show premiered this past fall, there has been noticeable tension between Porsha and the other ladies, especially Kandi Burruss. Kandi’s hesitation to fully incorporate Porsha back into her world stems from her actions during the previous season.

To recap, Porsha Williams played an integral role in spreading a nasty rumor about Kandi Burrus during season 9. After Phaedra Parks told Porsha that she had overheard Kandi and her husband, Todd Tucker concocting a plan to date-rape her, Porsha brought it up during an argument with Kandi. Kandi denied the rumor, but Porsha kept repeated it several more times over the season. It wasn’t until Phaedra Parks later admitted that the rumor was a lie, during the season 9 reunion episode, that Kandi was finally vindicated.

In the weeks after, some fans of the show signed petitions which called for Phaedra to be fired. Whether or not Phaedra’s firing was a direct result of those petitions has never been revealed.

Regardless, some of the fans and cast members felt that Porsha Williams should have also been fired. For one reason or another, the producers decided to allow Porsha to return, which may not have been for the best. It appears that the RHOA cast has taken matters into their own hands and are punishing Porsha in their own way.

#EMPIRE: Crime and chaos resume as 'Empire' and 'Star' return on Fox
The crime and chaos resumes, along with the love-hate relationship between Lucious and Cookie in the “Empire” Spring premiere, airing at 8 p.m., Wednesday on Fox.

In “Birds in the Cage,” Nurse Claudia (guest star Demi Moore), whom you may have assumed was gone for good after Lucious, a.k.a “Dwight,” flipped on her, takes her job to a new level when she kidnaps Lucious (Terrence Howard). To find him, Cookie (Golden Globe winner Taraji P. Henson) must race against time and use the skills she learned in prison to rescue him. Meanwhile, Andre (Trai Byers), Jamal (Jussie Smollet) and Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) pick up the pieces from the battle with the DuBois family.

Immediately following at 9 p.m., in an all-new episode of “Star,” titled “Rise From the Ashes,” Carlotta is devastated after the fire that resulted in someone’s death. As she tries to pick up the pieces, her mother, Miss Christine (guest star Patti LaBelle) and sister, Cassie (guest star Brandy Norwood), show up unexpectedly.

Meanwhile, Star struggles to hide her jealously and feelings for Noah (Luke James), while Gigi (guest star Keke Palmer) decides to do “Take 3” a favor that could put them back on the map.

“Star,” which premiered Dec. 14, 2016, on Fox, is an emotionally powerful drama that follows three talented young singers who are desperate for a new start and their ambition for stardom as they navigate the cutthroat music business. The show features four newcomers as its central characters.

Jude Demorest plays Star, a tough-as-nails young woman who grew up in the foster care system, and decides one day to take control of her destiny. She tracks down her sister, Simone (Brittany O’Grady), and her Instagram bestie, Alexandra (Ryan Destiny), and together the trio journeys to Atlanta to become music superstars. Amiyah Scott, yet another newcomer, appears in the role of Cotton.

The guest cast includes Evan Ross as Angel Rivera, Elijah Kelly as Andy, Lance Gross as Maurice Jetter, Richard Roundtree as Charles Floyd, Juanita Jennings as Miss Ruby, Justin Marcel McManus as Omari and Caroline Vreeland as Mary.

Upon renewing the musical drama for a second season, David Madden, president, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a statement, “Lee Daniels is a true visionary and he and Tom Donaghy have delivered a series with a unique and meaningful point of view. Our incredible cast, led by Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt, instantly infused their characters with tremendous depth and passion, and the show has proved to be both powerful and really entertaining. We are thrilled that this “Star” will continue to shine for a second season.”

The Wildcats are making their second Final Four appearance in three seasons, and are two wins away from winning a second title in that same span.

#WAKANDA ‘Black Panther’ Becomes Highest Grossing Superhero Film of All Time in US
Well there’s good and bad. First the bad: It had to happen at some point and this was the weekend that saw Black Panther's streak as the #1 film at the weekend box office come to an end at the hands of Pacific Rim Uprising. That being said, it wasn't a down weekend for Black Panther at all as it became the highest grossing superhero film of all-time, topping The Avengers with a domestic cume that now totals $630.9 million, becoming one of the top five domestic releases of all-time.

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther has become the top-grossing superhero film of all time in North America, not accounting for inflation.

The Disney and Marvel release achieved the milestone on Saturday after passing up fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. To boot, Black Panther is only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically (it currently ranks No. 6 on the list).

Black Panther has shattered numerous milestones since opening in theaters on Feb. 16.
Globally, the film has earned north of $1.2 billion to date. By the end of Sunday, it will leap past Iron Man 3 ($1.214 billion) to become the third-biggest comic book adaptation behind The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion).

#FASHIONNEWS: Lanvin Parts Ways With Artistic Director, Names Interim CEO
Olivier Lapidus will exit as artistic director, while Fosun Group's Joann Cheng will come on board as interim chief executive officer.

(Via WWD) PARIS — Lanvin is parting ways with its creative director Olivier Lapidus and general manager Nicolas Druz, in the first big moves by Fosun International since the Chinese conglomerate bought the cash-strapped French luxury brand last month.

Joann Cheng, president of Fosun Fashion Group and chairman of the board of directors of Lanvin, has been appointed chief executive officer of the French firm for an interim period, effective immediately, the house said Thursday.
Druz, a close associate of former majority shareholder Shaw-Lan Wang, had led the brand since last summer following a management reshuffle. He will take up the new position of managing director of Fosun Fashion Group, where he will support the group’s business expansion in Europe, Lanvin said.

Lapidus, who showed his sophomore collection for the house during Paris Fashion Week last month, is exiting his role as artistic director with immediate effect. The women’s collections will be designed by an in-house team in the interim, and Lapidus will resume designing under his own name.

“Olivier steered the maison through a transitional period between ownerships,” said Cheng. “We thank him for that, and wish him every success for his own brand and future endeavors.”
When the takeover was revealed, Lanvin initially said Fosun planned to work with its existing teams. The statement on Thursday made no mention of Lucas Ossendrijver, creative director of men’s wear, who has been touted as a potential candidate to succeed Kim Jones as head of men’s wear at Louis Vuitton.

Cheng has more than 20 years’ experience in senior management, having served as the chief financial officer of Chinese technology firm DJI Innovations, finance director of private equity firm TPG and Greater China controller at GE Capital, the financial services unit of General Electric.

She will act as ceo during a transition period, after which a permanent ceo will be appointed.
“Lanvin is a truly iconic and storied brand with immense potential,” Cheng said. “By being a part of the Fosun Fashion Group, Lanvin’s future growth can leverage resources from the expansive global platform of Fosun’s established companies and experts.”

The oldest French fashion house still operating has seen sales erode since a peak of 235 million euros in 2012. Revenues totaled 110 million euros in 2017, with a net loss of 52 million euros, and are projected to shrink to 85 million euros this year, with losses seen at 40 million euros, according to a source with knowledge of the label’s finances.

“The relaunch of Lanvin with fresh talents, while adhering to the values that the brand has maintained since 1889, is fundamental to returning the maison to its rightful position at the top table of the world’s most lauded and innovative fashion houses,” Cheng said.

Fosun beat Qatari rival Mayhoola Group to win control of the label, which was facing a liquidity crisis. Lanvin adds a luxury asset to Fosun Fashion Group, which has been given a mandate to invest globally in the fashion and retail industry to leverage the momentum in Chinese consumer spending.

The division aims to create long-term value through a variety of strategic initiatives, including brand building, new product development, strategic alliances, entry into new channels and marketing.

Alicia Keys To Executive Producer A Biopic About Alvin Ailey
Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys is teaming up with Fox Searchlight for an upcoming biopic on the life and legacy of iconic dance choreographer and visionary—Alvin Ailey.

According to DEADLINE, Fox Searchlight and the producers—Keys, Judy Kinberg, Susan Lewis, Rachel Cohen, Jana Edelbaum—are working with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre’s current Artistic Director Robert Battle and Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison to develop a film about his life and legendary choreography. They have also secured the rights to Jennifer Dunning’s seminal biography Alvin Ailey: A Life In Dance.

“We are thrilled to be working with these incredible partners to bring to the screen the amazing journey and revolutionary choreography of Alvin Ailey, whose life and legacy profoundly impacted people of all backgrounds around the world,” said Robert Battle.
Alvin Ailey was one of the most successful dance choreographers to ever live. His company, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, was founded in New York City in March 1958 (60 years ago this month) and laid the foundation for other dance troupes to follow suit such as the Dance Theatre of Harlem. The company is best known for the now classic work, REVELATIONS, which explores African American spirituality.

I can’t tell you how geeked I am about this movie. I have been a fan of Ailey’s since my college days and haven’t missed a performance in 24 years. As an a member of Ailey Circle Atlanta, I am elated that his story will be told and pray that it will inspire a new generation of dancers and creatives.
We will keep you posted as this film continues to develop.

Tamar Braxton Blames one of Steve Harvey's Employees for her Delayed Guest Appearance!
R&B singer Tamar Braxton shared in an Instagram post last week that she would be making an appearance Friday March 24 on “The Steve Harvey Show.” When that didn’t happen, the singer explained why in a now edited IG post. The singer revealed over the weekend that one of Steve Harvey’s employee’s allegedly tried to block her from appearing on the “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” author’s talk show and that her appearance on his show was delayed.
Braxton quickly edited the post minutes later. She also showcased a photo of herself on Instagram with the hashtag “#YourOutShesIn” before deleting it. She then updated her Thursday’s post and said she will appear Monday March 26.
The “King of Comedy” made announcement last year on June 2, 2016 that he’d be working with Braxton to begin her new talk show, after the singer was let go from “The Real” talk show. It’s been almost two years since and it has yet to debut.

Pink Forced to Cancel Another Concert While Battling Flu
Feel better, Pink! The 38-year-old entertainer cancelled another concert this weekend after battling the flu.

“I’m not going to be well enough to do the show tomorrow night in Detroit. I want to give you all the full show and not be hacking all the way through it and have to cut songs because of my voice,” Pink wrote on Twitter on Saturday (March 24) about Sunday night’s show in Detroit, Michegan. “I understand how much trouble you go to to be at my shows, what it entails, the planning, the schedules, etc. I am very very sorry, and I’m very grateful for your understanding. I will absolutely do this show at a later date, and it will be the full show. Again, I’m very sorry and have tried so damn hard to avoid this. All my love.”

Pink also had the flu back in February when she sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl
