The Daily Buzz For March 14 ☕📰☕

Mary J. Blige has gorgeous pictures For Ebony’s March Issue!
Check out the reigning queen of hip hop soul—Mary J. Blige—for EBONY Magazine’s March Issue. The two-time Oscar nominated actress and songwriter is watching the throne on the new cover with fashion’s selected by ANTM judge Law Roach and her signature blond tresses by celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims.

“She is a classy street chick who wore torn jeans and a baseball caps. All of a sudden— with the flick of a mascara wand and swipe of a lip liner  she could transform into a glam cover girl” That’s Our Mary,” says EBONY on Instagram.
Look for Mary to star in the new Netflix movie The Umbrella Academy. She’ll be portraying Cha-Cha, a ruthless and unorthodox hit woman who travels through time to kill assigned targets. Even though she has a few gripes about the bureaucracy of her employers, this job is her life.
Blige will also be headlining with Janet Jackson this summer at ESSENCE Fest.

Theoretical and Brilliant physicist Stephen Hawking has died at 76!
LONDON — Stephen Hawking, whose brilliant mind ranged across time and space though his body was paralyzed by disease, has died, a family spokesman said early today.

"He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years," his children Lucy, Robert and Tim said in a statement.
The best-known theoretical physicist of his time, Hawking wrote so lucidly of the mysteries of space, time and black holes that his book, A Brief History of Time, became an international bestseller, making him one of science’s biggest celebrities since Albert Einstein.

Even though his body was attacked by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, when Hawking was 21, he stunned doctors by living with the normally fatal illness for more than 50 years. A severe attack of pneumonia in 1985 left him breathing through a tube, forcing him to communicate through an electronic voice synthesizer that gave him his distinctive robotic monotone.

But he continued his scientific work, appeared on television and married for a second time.
As one of Isaac Newton’s successors as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, Hawking was involved in the search for the great goal of physics — a "unified theory."

Such a theory would resolve the contradictions between Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity, which describes the laws of gravity that govern the motion of large objects like planets, and the Theory of Quantum Mechanics, which deals with the world of subatomic particles.
For Hawking, the search was almost a religious quest — he said finding a "theory of everything" would allow mankind to "know the mind of God."

"A complete, consistent unified theory is only the first step: our goal is a complete understanding of the events around us, and of our own existence," he wrote in A Brief History of Time.
In later years, though, he suggested a unified theory might not exist.

He followed up A Brief History of Time in 2001 with the more accessible sequel The Universe in a Nutshell, updating readers on concepts like super gravity, naked singularities and the possibility of an 11-dimensional universe.
Hawking said belief in a God who intervenes in the universe "to make sure the good guys win or get rewarded in the next life" was wishful thinking.

"But one can’t help asking the question: Why does the universe exist?" he said in 1991. "I don’t know an operational way to give the question or the answer, if there is one, a meaning. But it bothers me."
The combination of his best-selling book and his almost total disability — for a while he could use a few fingers, later he could only tighten the muscles on his face — made him one of science’s most recognizable faces.

He made cameo television appearances in The Simpsons and Star Trek and counted among his fans U2 guitarist The Edge, who attended a January 2002 celebration of Hawking’s 60th birthday.
His early life was chronicled in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything, with Eddie Redmayne winning the best actor Academy Award for his portrayal of the scientist. The film focused still more attention on Hawking’s remarkable achievements.

Some colleagues credited that celebrity with generating new enthusiasm for science.

His achievements, and his longevity, also helped prove to many that even the most severe disabilities need not stop patients from living.

#RHoA: So are The RHoA Ratings are LOW without Kenya?
So we all know that Kenya Moore was missing in action on RHoA. But were you aware the arting were missing too? Well a twitterer name Tony Marino basically hates Kenya and advised Bravo to cut her already.

#EMPIRE: Serayah talks about being Tiana on EMPIRE with Rolling Out!
Serayah just oozes positivity. She recently gave an interview to Rolling Out magazine about her roll as Tiana on the TV Hit Drama ‘EMPIRE’. Here’s an excerpt from the interview. On “Empire, ” Tiana has had several songs and is actually valuable to the label, so Serayah has been able to practice her craft and get paid. Another bonus for the triple threat who also dances is working with choreographer Jamaica Craft, who has been behind the moves of both Ciara and Usher. Soon, she plans to unleash an album of her own and already has the Jazze Pha-produced “Driving Me” circulating.

For an up-and-coming female artist, “Empire” is an especially amazing gig. Mariah Carey, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige have all guest starred. On top of that, superproducers Timbaland and Rodney Jerkins have guided the music. It’s been a fast ride for Serayah, and the impact was immediate.

“Everything was just kind of surreal for a long time. Going from one extreme to the next. Being on TV and meeting these people and all of the sudden going to award shows and all of the sudden performing at award shows. Everything was happening so fast. Before I knew it, I had done a lot of things just within a year,” she shares. Like so many other young women today, Serayah owns who she is and isn’t afraid to bask in her own power. That is more due to the many women who’ve come before her, she says. Growing up, Rihanna and Pink made a huge impact. “They were like, ‘I am going to do what’s me because I want to and I’m a person, ’” she explains. “I don’t think it was about being a woman. It was like, ‘I’ve gone through this and that’s okay. ’ It is kind of like a movement, which is really awesome.” Cool You can get the full interview over at Rolling Out!

Does Rihanna wants to make peace with Chris Brown?
Now that the Barbadian beauty Rihanna has turned 30, she has created a list of goals she wants to accomplish — and one goal concerns troubled singer Chris Brown.
In late February, the sexy songstress celebrated her birthday with a celebrity-filled bash in New York city with her family posted up strong.

Legendary singer Toni Braxton performed and RiRi’s billionaire boyfriend, Hassan Jameel, was said to be all over her the entire evening.
A source close to the “Rude Boy” singer spoke to Hollywood Life and said that after the big day, Rihanna wrote down a list of all the things she hopes to accomplish in the next few years.

Rihanna would love to get married, start a family, and make peace with Brown. The pair split after Brown assaulted Rihanna in early 2009. And while they briefly reunited, they were never able to rekindle that old love they had for whatever reason.
An insider told Hollywood Life: “Rihanna made a long list of goals after turning 30 this month. At the top of her list is getting finally married and starting a family. Dropping a new album, go on tour and being more creative in all avenues of her life. What also made a list was to make peace with some things in her past, including her history with Chris Brown.”

The person added: “Rihanna is madly in love with Hassan, and she is starting to plan for a future with him. This is the first guy since Chris that’s made her feel this way like she wants to settle down. She and Hassan mostly meet up in Europe; it is a good midway point for them. But now she is talking about making it her full-time base so she can have even more time with him.”

According to the family friend, the couple is not in a rush to get married or start a family.
The pal claimed: “They are serious, and now that Rihanna has hit the big 3-0 she is thinking about stuff like marriage and family a lot more. She always thought she would have several children by this age, so that is on her mind now too. She and Hassan are not rushing into anything, but that is where her head is going. It seems like she has met her Prince Charming.”

Gabrielle Dennis Cast As Whitney Houston In ‘The Bobby Brown Story’
Gabrielle Dennis has been cast to portray Whitney Houston in BET’s two-party miniseries, “The Bobby Brown Story.”
The “Rosewood” actress took to Instagram to share her excitement about the role. She added that she’s praying she does the late icon “justice.”

So excited for this opportunity. Huge thanks to @iamrobireed who saw something in me and put me in the mix for this ICONIC role and thanks to all who had a hand in this decision…praying I do her justice.

Here’s the scoop via Deadline: “The New Edition Story” broke BET ratings records when it aired in January 2017, and “The Bobby Brown Story” picks up where that pic left off, following Brown’s successful solo run.

Woody McClain is reprising his role as Brown, one of the genre’s original “bad boys” whose life epitomizes the meaning of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. His hits may have kept him at the top of the charts, but his antics kept him on the front page. Production on the mini began this week in Atlanta.

‘The Voice’ Tops ‘American Idol’, Which Drops In Night 2 Ratings!
Monday was a Clash of the Titans night, with tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams facing off in Indian Wells and the two biggest signing competitions on American television this century, The Voice and American Idol, going at each other head to head. It was the 19th meeting between the Williams sisters, which was won by Venus, and the eighth face-off between Idol and The Voice.

It was the incumbent, NBC’s The Voice (2.3 rating in adults 18-49, 11.72 million viewers), that came out victorious, topping ABC’s Idol revival (1.8, 8.36 million) by 28% in the demo and almost 3.4 million viewers. It was only the second time The Voice has outperformed Idol when airing opposite each other — in the first seven times the two faced each other while Idol was on Fox, only once, in May 2014, did The Voice manage to edge its older counterpart by a small margin.
The presence of another music reality series barely affected The Voice, whose preliminary demo delivery was off by less than a tenth from the fast national last Monday, which rounded up to 2.4, and up by 2% in total viewers.

Meanwhile, Idol was down 22% in the demo from its ABC premiere on Sunday (2.2) to mark the series’ lowest Week 2 showing. It also was down by the same amount from The Bachelor finale, which ran on ABC last Monday. Idol, which will only have a few airings on Monday, did improve on ABC’s 8-10 PM season averages in 18-49 and total viewers and gave a lead-in boost to The Good Doctor (1.8, 9.8 million). After a preemption for the three-hour The Bachelor finale last week, the freshman medical drama, already renewed for a second season, was up 38% in 18-49 and 26% in total viewers from its last original to post its best numbers since November.

Overall, NBC edged ABC (1.9 vs. 1.8 in 18-49, 9.4 million vs. 8.8 million) to reclaim top Monday honors that went to ABC last week on the strength of The Bachelor closer.

Does this spell trouble for American Idol going forward?

T.I. and Tiny Drop Over $1 Million to Help Pay Back Taxes

The debt was attributed to income the couple earned in 2012.  Good news for Tiny, she’s now in the clear.  Unfortunately for the “Rubberband Man” rapper, he is still on the hook for a 2013 lien for $3,173,476.39 and a 2014 lien for $1,640,664.90 that have not yet been settled.

#POLITICS: Trump FIRES Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, replaces him with Mike Pompeo!
President Trump has removed Rex Tillerson as secretary of state and replaced him with current CIA Director Mike Pompeo, after months of speculation surrounding Tillerson's role in the Trump administration, a fact that Tillerson found out at the same time as the public.
Mr. Trump announced the news of Tillerson's ouster on Twitter, thanking him for his service. The Washington Post first reported news of Tillerson's firing, shortly before the president's tweet.

Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!

"Rex and I have been talking about this for a long time. We got along actually quite well, but we disagreed on things," he said. "When you look at the Iran deal -- I think it's terrible. I guess he thought it was OK. I wanted to either break it or do something. And he felt a little bit differently. So we were not really thinking the same."

News of Tillerson's departure from the State Department came as the secretary arrived in Washington early Tuesday morning after his overseas visit to Africa. There, he reaffirmed the U.S. - Africa relationship in spite of alleged vulgar comments made by the president about immigrations from African nations in January.

Mr. Trump released a statement shortly before leaving for his trip to California saying he was "proud" to nominate Pompeo to replace Tillerson.
"His experience in the military, Congress, and as leader of the CIA have prepared him well for his new role and I urge his swift confirmation," said Mr. Trump in a statement. He added, " want to thank Rex Tillerson for his service. A great deal has been accomplished over the last fourteen months, and I wish him and his family well."

According to the White House, Gina Haspel, the Deputy Director of the CIA, will be nominated to replace Director Pompeo. If confirmed, she would become the CIA's first female director. She was only recently named deputy director.

Pat Summitt, Legendary Women's Basketball Coach, Dies at 64
Legendary women's basketball coach Pat Summitt has died. She was 64.
Summitt's son Tyler said his mother died "peacefully" Tuesday morning, surrounded by "those who loved her most," in Knoxville, Tennessee.
He said she had been battling her "toughest opponent" — early onset dementia.
"She did so with bravely fierce determination just as she did with every opponent she ever faced," Tyler Summitt said in a statement. "Even though it's incredibly difficult to come to terms that she is no longer with us, we can all find peace in knowing she no longer carries the heavy burden of this disease."

Summitt served as head coach of women's basketball at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville for 38 seasons. She was recognized as the "winningest basketball coach in NCAA history" for both men's and women's Division I teams.
The University of Tennessee paid tribute to Summitt's "relentless pursuit of excellence" and lasting legacy: eight national championships, a 100 percent graduation rate and 1,098 total wins.
"Pat's legend transcends numbers," the university said. "It transcends sport, gender and all things quantitative."

Following Summitt's announcement in August 2011 that she had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, the coaching icon set up a foundation aimed at advancing a cure for the disease.
"I thought I would be remembered for winning basketball games, but I hope I'm remembered for making a difference in this disease," she once said, according to The Pat Summitt Foundation.
The foundation expressed "deep sorrow" over Summitt's passing and pledged to continue her mission in hopes of finding a cure.
"There are not many icons that you come in contact with in your lifetime and we all were fortunate to know one, Pat Summitt," it said in a statement. "Her work ethic, her dedication to the young women she coached, and her integrity in everything she did will never be equalled.
"She set the standard for excellence in academics, athletics and life. She was a role model and an inspiration and we are all enriched for having known her."
Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker said Summitt's impact on her players, the university and game of basketball will be felt for years to come. "Basketball has lost a legend, and Tennessee has lost one of its most beloved daughters," Corker said in a statement.

Holly Warlick, who stepped in as head coach of the Lady Vols following Summitt's retirement, said: "My heart is broken."
Patricia Sue Head Summitt was born on June 14, 1952 in Clarksville, Tennessee — the fourth of five children on her family's farm. After high school, she attended the University of Tennessee—Martin, where she led the women's basketball team to two national championship tournaments before graduating in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in physical education.

She accepted a position as head coach of women's basketball at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville shortly after graduating, at the age of 22.
Beyond her tenure at UT-Knoxville, Summitt was co-captain of the U.S. women's team and earned a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. As head coach she later led the 1984 U.S. Women's Olympic Team to a gold medal in Los Angeles.

In addition to her son Tyler, Summitt is survived by her mother, sister, three brothers and three sisters-in-law

Daniel Craig In Talks To Star In L.A. Riots Pic ‘Kings’ Opposite Halle Berry
Via Deadline: Daniel Craig is in talks to star opposite Halle Berry in Mustang director Deniz Gamze Erguven’s anticipated English-language debut pic Kings. The project is set against a backdrop of rising tensions in Los Angeles during the Rodney King trial in 1992. Craig will play Ollie, a loner who lives in South Central — one of its only white residents — who befriends and falls in love with Berry’s character, a tough, protective mother who looks after a group of kids. When the riots explode in the city, Craig’s character helps Berry try and track down the kids from the worst of the violence. Kings will have the same mix of lightness and tough emotion that made Mustang such a standout.

The riots spread across L.A. and lasted six days, leading to 55 deaths in the wake of the acquittal of the policemen who beat King. The footage of that beating was infamously captured on home video and would become a symbol of police brutality.

The shame of #OscarsSoWhite obviously made no impression on this lot. What an embarrassing day to work...
This has been Erguven’s dream project ever since graduating from the prestigious French Fémis film school. She first presented it to the Cannes L’Atélier co-production market in 2011 before deciding to make Mustang her directorial debut. That pic, set in a remote Turkish village and depicting the life of five young orphaned sisters and their challenges growing up as girls in a conservative society, has wowed critics and viewers. It was Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Language film and was a box office smash in France, earning almost half a million admissions in the country alone.

While Craig’s association with James Bond appears to be coming to an end, the actor is gearing up his non-007 projects. Deadline broke the news that he was in talks to join Steven Soderbergh’s heist film Logan Lucky opposite Channing Tatum, Riley Keogh and Adam Driver. The actor has also signed to star in the 20-episode Showtime series Purity for producer Scott Rudin and writer-director Todd Field. The series based on the novel by Jonathan Franzen is about young female activist named Purity (or Pip) who begins a worldwide search for her Dad.

J.R. Smith Selling My Body on a T-Shirt
Tons of people want a body like J.R. Smith -- and now they can have it ... 'cause the NBA star is selling t-shirts of his tatted physique ... and making a TON of cash in the process.
Smith's inked up physique dominated the Internet when he refused to put a shirt on following the NBA Finals -- and a Cleveland-based clothing company saw a huge chance to cash in on the topless attention.
We spoke with Tony Madalone of Fresh Brewed Tees who immediately commissioned replicas of Smith's upper body for shirts ... and he says they've already sold 1,000 units ($35 a pop) in less than 24 hours.
What's interesting ... the company realized some of J.R.'s tats could be problematic because they're based off trademarked images ... such as Michael Jordan's "Jumpman" logo.

So, in an effort to skirt the issue ... FBT altered some of the tats. Some of the changes -- they removed the name "Jordan" from a #23 jersey and modified the "Jumpman" logo.

Former NFL running back Zurlon Tipton, who was only 26 years old, has passed away after a bizarre yet fatal accident occurred on Tuesday.

Turkish Terror airport attack: 36 killed in explosions at Istanbul Atatürk
Police opened fire on two suspects who then blew themselves up outside security checkpoint at international terminal, Turkish officials say

A series of deadly explosions tore through crowds at Istanbul’s Atatürk international airport on Tuesday evening, leaving at least 36 dead and scores more injured in an attack officials blamed on the Islamic State terror group.
Shortly before the blasts, assailants armed with AK-47 rifles were involved in an exchange of gunfire with security guards outside the airport’s international terminal, according to officials.
The gunmen then detonated what are believed to have been suicide bombs. Three attackers died on the scene, said the Turkish prime minister, Binali Yıldırım.
Five of the dead were police officers, according to the Turkish national broadcaster TRT, which reported that at least 147 people were injured in the attack.
In a press conference in Istanbul on Tuesday night, Yıldırım said: “No matter where the terror comes from, our country is strong enough to fight against this terror. I call on every citizen to act in unity and stand by each other.”

Some foreigners were among the victims, he said.
A witness told Reuters that before the explosions one of the gunmen opened fire at random as he walked through the terminal.
“He was just firing at anyone coming in front of him. He was wearing all black. His face was not masked. I was 50 metres away from him,” said Paul Roos, 77, a South African tourist on his way back to Cape Town with his wife.
“We ducked behind a counter but I stood up and watched him. Two explosions went off shortly after one another. By that time he had stopped shooting.”

“He turned around and started coming towards us. He was holding his gun inside his jacket. He looked around anxiously to see if anyone was going to stop him and then went down the escalator ... We heard some more gunfire and then another explosion, and then it was over.”

Security camera footage circulating on social media was said to show the moment one of the attackers was shot by a security guard. The footage, which could not be verified, showed the assailant dropping what appeared to be an assault rifle before collapsing to the floor. Seconds later he appeared to activate a suicide bomb.
“There were the sounds of gunfire, it was like thunder, then there was a fireball everywhere,” a taxi driver, named as Fatih, told CNNTurk. “My front window blew out, the car in front of me was turned into scrap.”
Fatih said that at the most two minutes passed between the gunfire and the explosion.
President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan called on all governments, especially in the west, to join forces in taking a “firm stand against terror”.
“The bombs that exploded in Istanbul today could have gone off at any airport in any city around the world. Make no mistake: for terrorist organisations there is no difference between Istanbul and London, Ankara and Berlin, Izmir and Chicago or Antalya and Rome.
“Unless all government and the entire mankind join forces in the fight against terrorism, much worse things than what we fear to imagine today will come true.”
Turkey’s justice minister, Bekir BozdaÄŸ, told parliament in Ankara of the attack.

“I harshly condemn those who executed this terrorist attack, and those who gave the orders for it,” BozdaÄŸ told parliament.

BozdaÄŸ said the attackers initially used AK-47 assault rifles. Police barred access to the airport, and some flights have been diverted away from Istanbul. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts.
