The Daily Buzz For May 16

First Look At Missy Elliott On Elle Magazine June Cover
Marc Jacobs has provided a first look at rapper Missy Elliott, as featured on the cover of Elle magazine’s June 2017 issue. Flashing long lashes, Elliott wears a cashmere tracksuit from March Jacob’s fall 2017 line, along with a hat made in collaboration with Stephen Jones.

The editorial was shot by Mark Seliger and styled by Misa Hylton along with Elle fashion director Samira Nasr (who is amazing).
Musicians don’t randomly appear on the covers of major publications without a reason so we are guessing the feature will include an announcement on an upcoming project. Elliott dropped the single “I’m Better” in January 2017 and at the time said she was working on a documentary. She also mentioned she had enough material for several albums, but didn’t want to commit to an advance release date.

#EMPIRE: Fox Fall Schedule: 'Empire' Moves Up a Slot!
"Empire" is heading for new territory.

Fox unveiled its fall TV schedule today, and the biggest headline is the hit music drama's move to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, one hour earlier than its original timeslot. That allows Fox to use it as a lead-in and boost for other shows. "Star" will air after it in the fall.
The network is adding three new series, including the "X-Men" show "The Gifted," which follows a family with mutant teens on the run from the nefarious forces. Seth MacFarlane's "The Orville" is a live-action dramedy set on a spaceship 400 years in the future. And "Ghosted" stars Craig Robinson and Adam Scott as a skeptic and true believer investigating paranormal activity (sounds like a comedic version of "The X-Files").

9 p.m. "The Gifted" (new)

#NEWMUSIC from Sir The Baptist Feat. Brandy – Deliver Me
Brandy and Sir the Baptist have collaborated on an outstanding, soul-stirring new ballad titled, “Deliver Me.”  The gospel influenced track appears on the Chicago artist’s new album Saint or Sinner, which dropped today.
Sir opens the track with a spiritual vibe, talking about a personal matter that’s close to his heart. “I remember my sister Mary would get beat by her husband, who was the deacon of the church,” he says. “The whole church knew, but no one would say anything.”
Brandy plays the role of Mary on the Sir-produced track, hitting an evocative tone with every note. “Love, deliver me / Cause all he seems to do is hurt me,” she sings.

Sir narrates the song with some of his own confessions. “Growing up in the hood, when you got to liking girls, you had to have a lot of them, that was the cool factor,” he says. “It might still be, but we rappers in hip-hop gotta change the cool factor. We gotta start loving on our loved ones. Never hit on a woman and I never will, but mentally, I’ve done the same damage. I just want to say I’m sorry.”

The two have not only been working on music together, but they are rumored to be dating. Brandy joined Sir while he made the promo rounds through NYC this week. “Your music has truly changed my life….can’t wait for everyone to feel your truth,” she wrote on Instagram.

#HOTNEWHIPHOP from Juicy J Feat. Chris Brown & Quavo – ‘Leanin’
Juicy J, Chris Brown, and Quavo po’ up and sip on some syzzurp on their new collaboration “Leanin,” a standout off the Juice Man’s new mixtape Gas Face.
Leading the way, Breezy delivers his lean-loving hook over Murda Beatz’s production. “I put that syrup in the double cup,” he sings. “Chopped and screwed…Leanin’, leanin’, leanin’.”
Then, Juicy carries the theme into the track’s second verse. “Still sippin’ on the sizzurp,” he raps. “I’ve been ballin’ like Arenas and them, Wizards!”

After Brown’s infectious hook, Quavo Ratatouille adds his Auto-Tuned flavor. “Drank, drank, drank on me,” he rhymes. “Yeah, they call me Young Quavo / Drop the top, told your bitch get in, she gon’ do what I say so.”

“Leanin” samples a famous Project Pat line off “Ballers” from 1999’s Ghetty Green LP. That lyric — “Sippin’ on some sizzurp” — was then sampled and used as the hook for Three 6 Mafia’s UGK-assisted “Sippin’ On Some Syrup” single off 2000’s When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1.

Donnie Simpson Just Shaded The HELL Out Of Steve Harvey!
While Steve Harvey is out here telling folks “don’t approach me,” radio host Donnie Simpson has taken an opposite approach … and shaded Steve in the process.
On his Facebook page, Simpson posted a link to a story about Harvey and his harsh demands from his staff. The story prompted the former Video Soul host to craft his own list of demands including, “I’m always available”, “Don’t ever feel like you’re ambushing me” and “If you’re reading this know that I Love you and don’t view my life as anymore important than yours.” Bloop!

Kudos, Mr. Simpson! Maybe this will inspire Steve to lighten up a bit.

Disco Icon Gloria Gaynor teams with Yolanda Adams for her new gospel album ‘Testimony’
(EEW) Two Grammy-winning, legendary vocalists are teaming up to bless the hearts of the masses through new music.
Disco icon Gloria Gaynor, who is releasing her new gospel album Testimony later this year, has tapped the incredibly gifted gospel singer, Yolanda Adams, as one of her song collaborators.
"I'm blessed to have access to four wonderful artists to record with me on this album," Gaynor told Fox News in an interview Thursday, naming Jason Crabb, Mike Farris, MercyMe's Bart Millard and Adams.

"The title of this album is Testimony and that's because these songs are my testimony and I'm happy and blessed to be able say that the people that are singing with me on this album it's their testimony as well," Gaynor explained.
While working on her gospel release, the 67-year-old New Jersey native’s contribution to Disco music has not been forgotten. Gaynor is being inducted into the Library of Congress' music registry for her 1979 hit "I Will Survive."
Many may not know that, not too long after the release of her career-solidifying song, Gaynor gave her heart to Jesus and became a devout Christian.
So, why not record a Christian album sooner?
"I've wanted to record an inspirational or contemporary Christian CD for years,” she told Hallels in a 2014 interview, “but my management was concerned that it wouldn't be monetarily viable.”
She continued, “Now that I have management that trusts my judgement and honors my career desires, I felt finally free to do it.”

Adam Jones Donates $20,000 To Negro Leagues Museum; Speaks On Fenway Park Incident
*Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, who was the subject of racist taunts from a fan at Boston’s Fenway Park earlier this month, made a $20,000 donation to Kansas City’s Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on Saturday.
The contribution will provide free museum admission to local children through the Kansas City nonprofit Operation Breakthrough, which offers a range of services to meet families’ needs, including day care, after-school care, tutoring, a talent exploration program and summer activities for children ranging from early childhood to age 13.

“I want the opportunity to be able to further this great game of baseball that has helped me and countless friends of all races,” Jones said at a news conference Saturday to announce his support for the museum. “Whatever happened in Boston was very unfortunate. But I think that it can start a conversation in terms of people need to help police people. Situations like that should not occur.”
In addition to Jones’ contribution, on July 18, MLB’s Players Trust will host the children of Operation Breakthrough at the museum and during the Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers baseball game, where the children will participate in a number of activities with team players.

“As long as [kids] have an opportunity presented to them, you let them make the decision. If you don’t even have the opportunity, there’s nothing to talk about,” Jones told The Baltimore Sun of his donation. “I’m a person who just likes to give kids, give humans, give people an opportunity to learn. When I walk through those walls, I learn. It would be selfish of me not to help other people learn.”
