BREAKING! Supreme Court has ruled on narrow grounds for Colorado Cake baker who refused to create same-sex couple's wedding cake! πŸŒˆπŸŽ‚πŸŒˆ
WASHINGTON -- A divided Supreme Court on Monday absolved a Colorado baker of discrimination for refusing to create a custom wedding cake for a same-sex couple.
The verdict criticized the state's treatment of Jack Phillips' religious objections to gay marriage, ruling that a civil rights commission was hostile to him. As a result, the decision did not resolve whether other opponents of same-sex marriage, such as florists and photographers, can refuse commercial wedding services to gay couples.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the court's 7-2 decision against the same-sex couple, Charlie Craig and Dave Mullins, departing from his long history of opinions in favor of gay rights dating back a generation. Included among them was the court's 2015 decision legalizing gay marriage nationwide.

"The outcome of cases like this in other circumstances must await further elaboration in the courts," Kennedy said. "These disputes must be resolved with tolerance, without undue disrespect to sincere religious beliefs, and without subjecting gay persons to indignities when they seek goods and services in an open market."
Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor cast the lone dissents. Fellow liberal Justices Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan voted with the majority.

"Phillips would not sell to Craig and Mullins, for no reason other than their sexual orientation, a cake of the kind he regularly sold to others," Ginsburg said.
Kennedy reasoned that Phillips, in refusing to create a same-sex wedding cake, had good reason to believe he was within his rights. State law at the time allowed merchants some latitude to decline specific messages, such as those demeaning gay people and gay marriages.
The government cannot impose regulations hostile to citizens' religious beliefs, the ruling said.

During oral argument in December, Kennedy and other conservative justices had expressed concern about the potential effect on other merchants with strong religious objections to same-sex marriage, from chefs to florists.
The five-year-old legal battle between Phillips and customers Charlie Craig and David Mullins represented a test between the Constitution's guarantees of free speech and religion and laws in 22 states prohibiting discrimination against the LGBT community.

Phillips, 62, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, was fighting for the rights of "creative artists" to choose what they will sell. Craig, 37, and Mullins, 33, were fighting for the rights of LGBT customers to choose what they will buy.

Craig and Mullins won before the Colorado Civil Rights Commission and the state Court of Appeals, thanks to the state's inclusion of sexual orientation in its anti-discrimination law. Twenty-one other states have similar laws.

But the Supreme Court, bolstered last April by the addition of stalwart conservative and fellow Coloradan Neil Gorsuch, represented a tougher test.

The high court had weighed in twice before on the subject of same-sex marriage. In 2013, it ruled that the federal government must recognize gay and lesbian marriages in the 12 states that had legalized them. In 2015, it extended same-sex marriage nationwide.
But even as he authored the court's landmark decision, Kennedy held out an olive branch to religious conservatives.

"It must be emphasized that religions, and those who adhere to religious doctrines, may continue to advocate with utmost, sincere conviction that, by divine precepts, same-sex marriage should not be condoned," Kennedy wrote in 2015.

Three steps forward, 5 steps backwards!

Janelle MonΓ‘e Comes Out I Am a QUEER BLACK WOMAN!🌈♛🌈
Janelle MonΓ‘e has always been very coy, mysterious and/or private when it came to her sexuality, but it’s a new day!
The singer and actress came out as “a queer black woman in America” in her recent interview with Rolling Stone to promote her new album, Dirty Computer.

Janelle says she initial identified as bisexual until she read about pansexuality, which means you are not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity.
Being a queer black woman in America — someone who has been in relationships with both men and women — I consider myself to be a free-ass motherfucker.

I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.

The word on the street is Janelle is currently dating actress Tessa Thompson.

#LGBTQ🌈🌈🌈: The Courage House Is The First Group Home For LGBTQ+ Kids In Wisconsin!

#LGBTQ🌈🌈🌈: The Courage House Is The First Group Home For LGBTQ+ Kids In Wisconsin!
One couple is changing the lives of LGBTQ+ kids in middle America.

In Milwaukee, Wis., there are as many as 500 homeless youths on the streets. Forty percent of these children identify as LGBTQ+, and 26 percent of them say they are homeless because their families refused to support them because of who they are.
One organization is working to ensure that these children have a home to go to. Meet Courage MKE.

Brad Schlaikowski and his husband Nick have fostered several homeless teens who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. They told WTMJ-TV Milwaukee that they know all too well the story of kids struggling with the uncertainty of survival after being kicked out because they identified as queer. They created the nonprofit to raise awareness about the LGBTQ+ community in their city.
“We started Courage in December of 2015, so in two years the community has supported us enough to allow us to pay cash for this house,” Schlaikowski said.

Their latest project, The Courage House, will be a group home for LGBTQ+ kids—the first of its kind in the state. The establishment will consist of two three-bedroom homes on the south side of Milwaukee. One house will become a home to eight young people between the ages of 10 and 17 and the other will be a space used for counseling and hanging out.

“The fact that we have this house already and that in less than a year we can open the doors and put eight children in it and get them off of the street is phenomenal,” Schlaikowski said.

Schlaikowski also said that the placement on the south side was intentional, as there aren’t many shelters there.
“If they are rejected from their family, literally put on their stoop, the second they tell their family, with what they have on their back, how do we get from here to wherever the other shelters are,” he said.

The aim of the organization is to have The Courage House up and running to take teens in before next winter. You can donate to the cause here.

What’s The Tea? ☕☕☕ Tamar Braxton Turned Away From Dallas Area Gay Bar? πŸ‘€

What’s The Tea?☕ Tamar Braxton Turned Away From Dallas Area Gay Bar?πŸ‘€
*It looks like “The Real” is not the only entity that doesn’t want Tamar Braxton on its premises. Add a Dallas area bar and restaurant to the list.
Tamar herself revealed what went down earlier this week via her Instagram story. She told her followers she was barred from entering JR’s Bar & Grill because of her appearance.

“Evidently I look like a gangster. I can’t go in this establishment,” she said.
“Here in my favorite town Dallas, they have zero tolerance for black people.”

courtesy of Meet Magazine
Meanwhile, JR’s addressed what happened in a statement, released to NBC 5/Dallas. Their position is that they have strict entrance policy which applies to anyone and everyone hoping to drink and dine there.
“Our posted policies regarding entrance into JR’s Bar & Grill are to both ensure the safety of all our customers and to certify that our staff are in accordance with the law when serving alcohol – without exception,” the statement read.

“In this instance, we were simply following our published procedures. It would have been a beautiful experience and honor to add Tamar Braxton to the long list of celebrities who have enjoyed JR.s as a safe and inclusive entertainment venue. We are deeply saddened that she didn’t experience the love that awaited her inside.”
Charles Roy is one of many who frequents the popular gay bar and is well aware of the dress code, which says, “no sweat towels, no backpacks, pants are to be worn around the waist, no sunglasses worn inside, give respect, get respect” and “zero tolerance policy.”
“I know they have signs up that say zero tolerance, but I think that’s for drug peddling and some other things that have gone on here in the past,” Roy told Fox 4. “I don’t think that’s being racist.”
“Are there certain areas of Dallas that are discriminatory? Maybe,” said another patron, Louis Dofrman. “But I don’t think this is one of them. I mean, this is the ‘gayborhood’ for God’s sake!”

Hundreds of comments on JR’s Facebook page, mostly from Braxton fans, take a different tone.
“Even in the gay community, people are a racist,” one person commented. “Smh I will never support y’all ever again.”
“How could you be so naive and oblivious?,” another commenter said. “Black people have supported JR’s but not any longer. The incident is disgraceful, tasteless, and racist.”

However Dallas LGBTQ community activist James Vincent to me had the perfect response. He said.

‘Hey Jrs Bar And Grill maybe you should've had my buddy John Anderson craft your response to the Tamar Braxton-Herbert situation. Actually, this should've been your response weeks, months, YEARS before the Tamar incident as she isn't the first case of alleged discrimination. It's the worst kept secret in Dallas that yours and other establishments on the strip either willingly engage in these behaviors or enable them by turning a tone deaf blind eye to them. You have an opportunity to change the course of race relations in this community. Be a pioneer. Heed the warnings from the community. Be better. Let's build.’
As of this posting, Tamar had not responded to the statement from the restaurant. Braxton was in the Big D for a performance at the Verizon Theatre.

Remember the LGBTQ Community don’t want to be discriminated against but in some cases are discriminating against one another. And now what about about that Cake baker in Colorado??????? SAD!

BREAKING NEWS! THE BATTLE IS OVER Australians have decided! Same-Sex Marriage is LEGAL! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

BREAKING NEWS! THE BATTLE IS OVER Australians have decided! Same-Sex Marriage is LEGAL!πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–
 THEY FAUGHT, THEY WON!

Australians have voted in favour of legalising same-sex marriage in a historic non-binding poll.
The vote showed 61.6% of people favour allowing same-sex couples to wed, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said.
More than 12.7 million people - about 79.5% of eligible voters - took part in the eight-week postal survey.
PM Malcolm Turnbull said the "overwhelming" result meant his government would aim to change the law in parliament before Christmas.
"[Australians] have spoken in their millions and they have voted overwhelmingly yes for marriage equality," he said after the result was announced.
"They voted yes for fairness, yes for commitment, yes for love. And now it is up to us here in the parliament of Australia to get on with it."
Supporters began celebrating the result in public spaces across Australia on Wednesday, waving rainbow flags and singing and dancing.
Mr Turnbull, a same-sex marriage supporter, is facing debate within his government over what the parliamentary bill should include.

Some conservative MPs are pushing for the the bill to include exemptions that would allow businesses opposed to same-sex marriage to refuse goods and services for weddings. Prime Minister Turnbull says it should done and legal by Christmas!

BREAKING: Gay rights pioneer Edith Windsor dies at 88!

BREAKING: Gay rights pioneer Edith Windsor dies at 88!
Edith Windsor, the lesbian New Yorker whose landmark legal case paved the way for gay marriage, has  died at 88.
The longtime Greenwich Village resident was the plaintiff in Windsor vs. U.S., a 2013 Supreme Court case that knocked down the Defense of Marriage Act’s discrimination against LGBT couples in 2013.

Windsor, known for remaining bubbly and upbeat during her legal battle, asked for a tax refund after her Canadian marriage to Thea Spyer was not recognized by the U.S. government when Spyer died in 2009.

The 2013 Supreme Court decision allowed same-sex married couples to receive federal benefits, and contributed to the legal reasoning behind 2015’s Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized gay marriage across the U.S.

Windsor re-married last year to Judith Kasen-Windsor, 52, who first confirmed her death to the New York Times.
