#MAGFAB: John Boyega for ESQUIRE Magazine
John Boyega tells the truth about Hollywood: good, bad, and ugly. It was STAR WARS then. It’s the big studios’ treatment of writers and actors now. Creatively, he’s starting fresh—with lots and lots of big swings. Available exclusively online as a digital feature, “It’s Time to Listen to John Boyega. Again.” by Clover Hope is on Esquire.com now.

On not being “toxic humble” and how that term is defined: “Toxic humble, to me, is the concept of: I don’t care about the audience. It’s all about my art. Come on, man. Stop it. Like, stop. The audience participates in that, and you are selling it to them. You’ve got to step in and fill that space. You have to step into it.”

On the health of They Cloned Tyrone co-star Jamie Foxx and the public’s curiosity about it: “I’m the guy who’s like, Cool, you gotta have that privacy, regardless of what you’re going through…At the end of the day, you’re curious about somebody you’ve never met. Let’s come back down to reality here. Yes, you care about celebrities and stars, but if that same celebrity is asking for privacy, how come you don’t care about that?”

On his private life: “Most of my life is mysterious. Like, people do not know about me and how I roll, who I’m with, what I’m doing. I get curious about people ’cause of the work they do. Your private life, I’m not trying to get into that too tough unless it’s some criminal crap, like, Oh, I didn’t know that person would do that. Who you’re dating and all that? I don’t have no interest. Also, I go, You don’t really care, though, innit? My mom and dad care about that.”

On how the industry has treated him since publicly advocating for equality in casting: “Once you make certain statements, everybody knows where you stand, so people don’t approach you trying to play the game. Since then, I’ve worked with Netflix, I’ve worked with Sony and other studios, and they’re very much aware of how I am, how I operate, and they found that they can still do their job…When you’re the one actor saying it, it becomes like, Oh my God. But I’m glad now.”

On the need for equity and transparency from the major studios: “[P]rivacy, with [studio heads], is their safe haven. That privacy has protected them and allowed them to make certain decisions with artists. It’s not fair. For something that’s such a group effort, there needs to be more of a balance and a redefinition of what is fair.”

On how streaming has impacted the industry: “Streaming has been a great opportunity for a lot of us who aren’t necessarily in all the biggest blockbuster films every year. For me, it’s a symptom of change. But I hope there’s a balance. I don’t want to lose cinema. You see some streaming services that offer these high-end movies a chance to be in the movie theater for a short amount of time. Although they don’t bloody market it. But you get to see how both of them can coexist.”

On whether he sees himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: “I don’t see a space there. Years and years ago, I used to want to be in Black Panther. They’ve got that handled. Someone give me a Hancock.”

#RHOA: NeNe Leakes addresses son Bryson’s arrest and ‘addiction:’ There is ‘nothing I can do’
NeNe Leakes says her oldest son, Bryson Bryant, is “doing OK” following his recent arrest for felony drug possession.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum speaks out about her son’s arrest for the first time during an upcoming appearance on Carlos King’s podcast, “Reality with the King,” which drops Tuesday.
“He needs rehabilitation,” Leakes tells the former Bravo producer. “He needs a lot of counseling.”

She continues, “Like many families out there, I have family members that are struggling with drugs and certain addictions. He has an addiction. He’s been struggling with it for years. He’s been in rehab for a couple of times and he still has come back out and relapsed.”
In fact, Leakes, 55, says her “hands are tied” when it comes to helping the 33-year-old.
“There’s not much that I can do,” she says. “For people who have had children or family members that have been on drugs, they know that they have to be ready.”

Although the Bravolebrity has “spent so much money on trying to get Bryson where he needs to be,” she realizes that nothing will change until he makes that decision for himself.
Bryant was arrested on July 3 for felony drug possession.

“Every time I’ve sent him off is because I said, ‘You are getting your ass up and we are sending you off,'” she explains. “But I learned through counseling myself that he has to say, ‘I’m ready to go,’ not me making him go. So until Bryson is ready to make a change, [there’s] nothing I can do.”

In fact, the struggle has been “happening for so many years” that Leakes is “kinda numb” to it all.
While the mother of two admits that growing up on reality TV “didn’t help” her son’s battle with addiction, she insists that it was not “the sole cause of it.”
The mother of two says she has tried to get her son help for years.
“I learned through counseling myself that he has to say, ‘I’m ready to go,’ not me making him go. So until Bryson is ready to make a change, [there’s] nothing I can do,” the “RHOA” star explains.

“They’re having a light shined on them that they did not ask for,” Leakes, who is also mom to Brentt Leakes, says. “People are picking them apart because of the job that I chose to do. And so I feel for them in that way. But there’s just issues that he has.”

Although Leakes — who shares Bryson with ex Calvin Bryant — has a hard time relating to her son’s issues, she revealed that Lamar Odom has since offered to get Bryson into one of his Odom Wellness Treatment Centers.
While it’s unclear whether or not Bryson accepted Odom’s offer, the ex NBA star — who suffered a near-fatal overdose in 2015 — has tried to help numerous other celebrities battling drug addiction.

The reality TV star admits that growing up in the spotlight didn’t help her oldest son navigate his battle with addiction.
According to arrest records obtained by Page Six, Bryson was arrested July 3 and hit with several charges, including possession of a scheduled II controlled substance, violation of probation, loitering and giving a false name, address or birthdate.

During his arrest, Bryson reportedly gave police his younger brother’s name as well as an old address from one of his mother’s previous homes.
Bryson, who has his fair share of run-ins with the law, remains behind bars at Gwinnett County Jail on a $6,100 bond.

#HipHopNews: Fans Speculate That ASAP Rocky Dissed Travis Scott At Rolling Loud Miami

During Rolling Loud Miami, A$AP Rocky electrified fans with a sneak peek into his forthcoming album, Don’t De Dumb. Amid the excitement on Sunday (July 23), an unnamed adversary found themselves in the New York native’s crosshairs during his performance of an unreleased track.

The rapper didn’t pull punches, accusing someone of style theft while brandishing a biting retribution in his lyrics. “First, you stole my flow, so I stole yo’ b**ch. I can’t trust a soul, just my pole and my kid. Never tell a lie ’cause my heart hope to die, uh. Then I sold the switch, then I hit it where he kissed,” Rocky rapped.

Despite no explicit names mentioned in this lyrical jab, avid fans immediately pointed fingers at Travis Scott. “Travis Scott diss,” suggested one observant Twitter user, noting, “Travis did run with A$AP style a couple [of] albums ago.” Another chimed in, labeling the lyrics as a “nasty Travis jab.”

Alleged tensions between Rocky and Scott have fueled the rumor mill for years. It’s born out of speculation that the “K-POP” artist allegedly borrowed from the former’s signature psychedelic sound and trendsetting style.

The hearsay has been going on ever since A$AP Mob member A$AP Nast called out Scott for “swagger-jacking” in 2016. Rocky later commented on the controversy during a HOT 97 interview. He stated, “Let the people decide if he [is] a biter or if he [is] authentic.”

Additionally, the musician’s cryptic “stole your b**ch” line stirred whispers about the Houston native’s rumored fling with Rihanna in 2015. The speculation gains momentum as Rih is presently expecting her second child with the “L$D” hitmaker.
Meanwhile, others theorized about potential targets such as Chris Brown and Drake, the latter being a longtime admirer of Rihanna. However, as far as musical “flow” and “style” similarities go, these contenders fall short when compared to Scott.

Elsewhere, A$AP Rocky continued the prelude to his new album with a recent single, “RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n),” which saw him join forces with Pharrell for production. With previous releases like “D.M.B.” and January’s “Same Problems?” boasting star-studded contributions from artists like Lil Yachty, Miguel, and Thundercat, anticipation for the new LP is at an all-time high.

Carlee Russell, Who Went Missing Says Through Attorney She Wasn’t Kidnapped.
Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who earlier this month went missing for 49 hours after making a 911 call about a child on an interstate, said she was not kidnapped and did not see a baby on the side of the road, according to a statement from her attorney.

The statement from attorney Emory Anthony – read by Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis during a news conference Monday afternoon – said the 26-year-old woman never left the Hoover area and acted alone.
Carlethia "Carlee" Nichole Russell is seen in an image released by the Hoover, Alabama police department.  Russel went missing after reporting to a 911 dispatcher that she saw a toddler walking on the side of the interstate on Thursday, July 13.

There are thousands of unsolved cases of missing Black people. Carlee Russell's unverified report is rare, advocates say
“My client apologizes for her actions to this community,” Anthony said in the statement.
The statement didn’t indicate where Russell was while a large search for her took place.
“We still don’t know where she was,” Derzis told reporters Monday, adding, “Only Carlee knows, and maybe now her attorney.”

On July 13, Russell was driving to her home in Hoover from her job in Birmingham, about 10 miles to the north, when she called 911 to say she was stopping her car to check on a child.
She then called a family member who lost contact with her – though the line remained open, according to the Hoover Police Department.
She returned home on foot about 49 hours later, at around 10:45 p.m., according to Hoover police.

“We ask for your prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and attempts to move forward, understanding that she made a mistake in this matter,” Anthony said in the statement.
Derzis said charges against Russell are possible and his office is discussing the case with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. Police do not know what Russell’s motivation was, Derzis said.

Police will meet with Anthony on Tuesday, he said.
Investigators were supposed to meet with both Russell and Anthony on Monday, but the attorney emailed the statement and asked the chief to read it to the media.

Kid Cudi Calls Critics "Homophobic And Sad" After His Sexuality Is Questioned

In a rant on Twitter this past Saturday (July 22), Kid Cudi took a stand against the homophobic remarks that are frequently lodged against him on social media. The musician spoke out about the unsettling trend of his joy being misinterpreted and maligned with questions about his sexuality.

“[You] know what’s crazy, and really makes me question the world we live in, is when I post a picture of me smiling on IG and there’s mad comments questioning my sexuality floodin’ my page [with] insults,” the artist wrote. Elsewhere, Cudi expressed deep sympathy for these critics. He continued, “I feel really bad for y’all, man. It’s sad out here. [Men] can’t even smile and be happy no more.”

Furthering his point, Cudi quipped, “It’s like, ‘Oh, he’s smiling TOO hard!! He DEF sucks a d**k!’ Its like word?? That’s what we on now?? Homophobic, sad, and will be miserable their whole lives.”
The “Day ‘n’ Nite” hitmaker didn’t hold back, engaging with fans who agreed with his remarks. When one follower empathized with his situation, Cudi responded, “It’s just sad to see people so lame. It’s sad someone, a man, can’t show joy without there being some conversation about their [sexuality]. People been callin’ me gay for years. It is what it is. It just never reached this level of f**kery until now.”

Reacting to a supporter who spoke about how Cudi was “literally just smiling” in his posts, the rapper emphasized the extreme homophobia he was witnessing. “I’m saying. I’m like, Godd**n cats are SUPER homophobic, like REACHING for gayness everywhere they look, hahaha,” he noted.
Over the last several years, the Cleveland-born artist has been unwavering in his advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. He frequently used his platform to challenge homophobia within the hip hop industry, even showing support for fellow artists like Lil Nas X.

The Obamas Mourn Death Of Personal Chef In Paddle Boarding Incident Near Their Martha's Vineyard Estate
Obamas are grieving over the loss of their private chef. Barack and Michelle Obama have paid a touching tribute to Tafari Campbell, a former White House sous chef who later became the couple's personal chef, after he died on Monday, July 24 in a paddle boarding accident near the family's Katama estate in Martha's Vineyard.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Obamas called Campbell "a beloved part of our family." The statement read, "When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House - creative and passionate about food, and its ability to bring people together. In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter."

The statement continued, "That's why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He's been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he's gone." The couple added, "Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari - especially his wife Sherise and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin - in grieving the loss of a truly wonderful man."

According to reports, Campbell, who was employed by the Obamas, was visiting Martha's Vineyard. The former U.S. president and the former First Lady were not present at home at the time of the incident.
The chef was reported missing while paddle boarding on Sunday. The search started at 7:46 P.M. ET on Sunday when Martha's Vineyard police and fire agencies responded to a 911 call for "a male paddle boarder who had gone into the water, appeared to briefly struggle to stay on the surface, and then submerged and did not resurface."

Campbell, who was from Dumfries, Virginia, was recovered by divers from a pond on Edgartown Great Road on Monday shortly before 10 A.M. ET. "MSP Underwater Recovery Unit divers made the recovery after the victim's body was located by Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers deploying side-scan sonar from a boat," the department said in the release, noting the recovery was made "approximately 100 feet from shore at a depth of about eight feet."

Campbell was not wearing a life jacket, police said. He was 45 and is survived by his wife and their twin boys.

Azealia Banks Threatens To Sue Beyonce And Daughter Blue Ivy If She Samples Her

Azealia Banks reignites her one-sided beef with Beyonce Knowles. The controversial femcee took to her Instagram account to share that she wouldn't hesitate to sue the Grammy-winning pop star and her daughter Blue Ivy if she does one thing.

On Monday, July 24, Azealia caught wind of a fan suggesting in a comment, "Beyonce should've sampled you on renaissance." However, the "Anna Wintour" hitmaker apparently wasn't happy with the idea as she replied, "she knew better."

Further elaborating in a follow-up reply, Azealia noted that she would take a legal move if the "Lemonade" singer ever sampled her music. "because I would have sued her, Sony, columbia, parkwood, tidal AND blue ivy. I would have sued the fake basquiat dreads right off [Jay-Z]'s head. I'm not the one," she stressed.
This isn't the first time for Azealia to put Beyonce on blast. Back in June, the Harlem star claimed that Queen Bey is trying to erase her contributions to house music after releasing her single "Break My Soul".

She first shared a quote from an anonymous source in a Metro U.K. article that said of Beyonce, "She loves the fact that so many Black writers and DJs are thriving in the dance scene over there and was paying attention to songs by people like MistaJam, David Asante, MNEK, Kamille and early Azealia Banks when brainstorming."

Azealia then added, "You're 'brainstorming' with six people to my early records." She continued, "Which are miles beyond whatever flaccid and insecure attempt you just made to try for an attention grab during pride month? When you don't give a damn about the gays any other time of the year?"

Not stopping there, the "Icy Colors Change" artist posted an audio of her going on a rant against Beyonce, whom she believed "has been trying to write me out of my own narrative for, like, years at this point." She went on to say, " Like, this is so f**king weird. So, early Azealia Banks records. So, what are you trying to do? Are you trying to encapsulate my music in time and say and say like, you know, it's vintage or something, as if my last three releases have not whooped your a**. Are you kidding? As if I'm not showing major versatility and all of that. You want me to not be Yemaya so f**king badly. You want it to be [Solange Knowles]. You want it to be Chloe Bailey, '[The Little Mermaid (2023)]' movie, and you don't include Azealia Banks. Like, oh my f**king God. You're a joke."
She continued, "You're so sneaky. You're trying to erase my contributions to house music, dance music, electronic music and all that and make it as if I'm...God knows who. Just encapsulate me in time. You're a f**king creep. You're a f**king creep, Beyonce...And you watch everything I do."

Recently, Azealia also went after Nicki Minaj over her "trash" collaborations. "Ugh Nicki PLEASE stop doing these trash collabs. Ice spice highkey ate you in your own space. The original of Princess Diana is better too. Desperation and defeat is not a good look on you," the "212" hitmaker wrote. "Please realize that the game being played against you is bigger than whatever flavor of the moment Girl hits the scene. Please stop trying to out hoodrat these new girls and get back to boxing these white pop stars out (sic)."

Tori Kelly Reportedly Rushed To Hospital With Blood Clots After Fainting At Dinner
Singer Tori Kelly was reportedly taken to the hospital Sunday night after suffering from severe blood clots.
Kelly was having dinner in downtown L.A. on Sunday night when she felt her heart begin to race. She ultimately lost consciousness “for a while,” a source told TMZ. She was allegedly driven by her dinner companions to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The report said Kelly’s doctors found blood clots around the “Never Alone” singer’s lungs and in her legs. A medical team was working to determine if clots were present near the Grammy winner’s heart.

"Honestly, the VMAs were the moment when it felt like 'Wow.' That's when I realized it was going to be the craziest year of my life," Tori Kelly said of her breakout.
Kelly has been “in and out of consciousness during her hospitalization” and is in Cedars-Sinai’s intensive care unit, TMZ added.
Kelly was scheduled to play at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood on Friday. There is currently no word on whether the show will be canceled or postponed.

The “Nobody Love” artist was nominated for best new artist at the 58th Grammy Awards in 2016, then won Grammys for her single “Never Alone” and her gospel album “Hiding Place” in 2019. Most recently, Kelly’s holiday album “A Tori Kelly Christmas” was nominated for a Grammy in 2022.

Jazmine Sullivan Reveals Her Mom Has Passed Away

On (July 24), Jazmine Sullivan took to social media to let her fans know that her mother, Pam Sullivan, has passed away. “I don’t have the words yet mommy,” she captioned a childhood photo of her mom on Instagram. “So for now, I’ll say thank you, thank you, thank you. Rest now, butterfly. [Butterfly emoji] 10/26/58- 07/22/23 [Broken-heart emoji].”
Pam was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. During an appearance on the “PEOPLE Every Day” podcast last year, the Grammy Award-winning singer shared how her mother’s cancer battle changed their relationship for the better. “We’ve definitely gotten closer,” Jazmine began. “Obviously, you appreciate people more if you even think that you could lose them, but I’ve been able to reciprocate the love and support that she’s given me all my life back to her. And I’m so fulfilled doing that.”

The “Girl Like Me” hitmaker continued, “[There’s] a difference than before the diagnosis, where maybe I might be a little irritated to hear mom’s advice, but now I want to hear it. I want to be with her as much as possible. I’m setting up a room in my house for her to come and stay over, making sure she’s comfortable.”

Jazmine also added that Pam’s disease is what inspired her to make her own health a priority, including setting up appointments for a mammogram. “It’s scary to have gone through this with your parent and to know that you’re more at risk, but what I have learned is that information is key and knowing earlier can do so much more good than harm,” she admitted to the host.

According to National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., in 2023, an estimated 297,790 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S., as well as 55,720 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. We send our deepest condolences to Jazmine and her loved ones during this difficult time.

Jamie Foxx made his first public statement over the weekend and is also back to work. According to TMZ, Foxx filmed a new BetMGM commercial last week during his trip to Las Vegas. The commercial shoot went down at the Aria Resort and Casino, nearly four months after he entered recovery and rehab.

The new commercial is set to arrive before the start of the NFL season and sees Fox in a gold F1 car. Foxx’s daughter, Corinne, also shared an image, writing, “year 4 of @betmgm in the books so proud of you always Dad”

A day after posting his first image on Instagram, Jamie Foxx returned with a three-minute video message for his fans. During the video, Foxx states he “went to hell and back” during his time of illness.
In the video, Foxx thanked his sister and daughter for saving his life, fighting back tears as he detailed his situation while still giving the viewing audience a laugh.

“I just didn’t want you to see me like that,” Foxx said. “I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, a television show. I just didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
“But I did go to hell and back,” he added. “My road to recovery had some potholes as well but I’m coming back, and I’m able to work.”

Foxx revealed there may be times in the future that we could see him crying and it’s for the journey that he made through.

Married to Medicine star Quad Webb's 3-year-old great-niece drowns in her pool

Quad Webb, a cast member on the long-running Bravo reality series Married to Medicine, is mourning the death of her 3-year-old great-niece, who drowned in the backyard pool of her Atlanta-area home earlier this month.

In a statement, a representative for the TV personality and former medical sales representative requested "much needed privacy during this period of mourning as Quad is taking time to grieve with her family."
Cobb County police confirmed to EW that officers responded to reports of a child drowning in Marietta, Ga., on July 7. After being taken to a nearby hospital, the girl was pronounced dead. According to a police report obtained by WSB-TV in Atlanta, the pool belongs to Webb and the child was identified as Aryanna "Ari" Rice, the daughter of Webb's niece from Memphis, Tamica Webb. The police report said the child was at the home for a month-long visit and listed the drowning as a tragic accident.

A representative for Webb didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.
Webb has been a fixture on Married to Medicine since the series debuted in 2013, and she is expected to return for the upcoming 10th season. Previous seasons also featured appearances from her 7-year-old nephew Mason, whom Webb took a hand in raising after the death of her brother Quentin in 2020.

Webb publicly welcomed baby Ari into her life earlier that year, in the wake of her divorce from Dr. Gregory Lunceford. She subsequently released a statement clarifying that Ari was not her adopted daughter, and that Webb and mother were part of "the village" helping to raise the child.

Webb celebrated Ari's third birthday earlier this year in a touching Instagram post. "Wow, I can't believe my baby is 3 years old today!" she wrote. "I remember you falling to sleep laying on my chest. You absolutely stole my heart from the moment I saw you; Ari you're so special to me and I'm grateful to be apart of your life!"
