Issa Rae for Vanity Fair - June 2021!

Issa Rae is back on the covers, this time she is featured on Vanity Fair. Issa Rae is bringing us some much-needed black girl magic, that is perfect for Vanity Fair. Photographed by Adrienne Raquel, the witty thespian channels boss lady vibes in pantsuits and black looks, and styled by Shiona Turini rocked a classic bold lipstick and bronzed eyeshadow to emphasize her body jewellery.

She also wore a pleated blue Robert Wun suit, a crisp white Givenchy suit without a tie, and a purple sequin Valentino Haute Couture turtleneck.

For this issue, Issa Rae discusses the highly-anticipated final season of “Insecure“, producing a docu-series about Black 20-somethings in Los Angeles titled “Sweet Life” and being of Senegalese descent.

Vanity Fair revealed that Issa is working on a revival of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s HBO docuseries “Project Greenlight,” which gave money and support to aspiring filmmakers.

The series is known less for the films it produced than for a scene in its final season, in which Damon pushed back against producer Effie Brown for saying that the casting for the participants in the series should have been more inclusive.

…Rae’s excitement lies predominantly in offering overlooked directors a place to shine: “I want this version of the show to make filmmaking feel attainable.”

On filming the final season of “Insecure” and re-watching the hit HBO show’s first episodes as she closes the chapter

I’m finding myself putting season-one pressure back on the show again. All these memories come up, so I can’t watch it purely objectively. And then, of course, you look at performance stuff, you look at hair stuff, you look at appearance stuff. You’re just like, Okay, wow, I went on TV like that?.

On writing and being in the same show she created

Girl, no! I’m never doing this again… Before you asked that question, I told myself I would never write and be in a show that I created again. It takes up a lot of your life, and I like to do a lot of things… I love doing this show. I’m so grateful to be able to do this show. But that’s just not really for me.

On being of Senegalese descent and going on a visit

I feel disconnected from it… I wanted to go back in 2020. That was going to be the year, and then that got derailed. But so much has changed… I just know that it wouldn’t be the same… I would love to have a house there… I would love to take my future kids there, and maybe give them the same type of childhood and appreciation that my parents gave us.

#RHOA: Cast Reportedly Getting Major Shakeup, Not Everyone Will Return In Starring Roles!

The Real Housewives of Atlanta won't all be holding peaches come Season 14.

At least that's what a source told theJasmineBRAND on Tuesday, two days after the third and final episode of the Season 13 reunion aired on Bravo.

According to the insider, showrunners are taking into consideration the season's dip in ratings and vocal disappointment from fans by committing to a cast shakeup.

"The ratings weren't the best this past season, so they need to do something to help get more viewers," said the source.

Indeed, Season 13 saw the lowest ratings in RHOA history, with 489,000 fewer viewers than that which the Season 12 premiere garnered. Furthermore, TV Deets reports that the Season 13 finale and subsequent three-part reunion were the series' lowest rated ever.

The source also claims that while contracts have not yet been signed, at least one full-time cast member is in danger of getting her role reduced to that of a cast "friend." As for fresh faces, the insider said fans can expect to see a few of those, too.

After all, the current cast is on the small end, with only veterans Porsha Williams, Kenya Moore, Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burruss and newcomer Drew Sidora in starring roles.

During Season 13, viewers were also introduced to "friends" (though not with each other) LaToya Ali and Falynn Guobadia, and continued to get to know the OG "friend of," Marlo Hampton.

It's unclear whether LaToya, Falynn and/or Marlo will be offered full-time positions, but we are fairly confident Porsha's engagement to Falynn's very recent ex-husband, Simon Guobadia, will be a topic of discussion.

Porsha darn-near broke the internet when she posted a Mother's Day photo series showing her smiling and standing in between Simon and her baby daddy, Dennis McKinley. She also had a massive diamond ring on that finger.

Following a wave of immediate speculation, Porsha and Simon revealed they had been dating for a month and were, indeed, engaged.

To make the already dramatic situation that much more messy, Kandi, Kenya and Cynthia have all seemingly declared their allegiance in the matter – to Falynn.

As for fans, they'll never stop begging Bravo to bring back series OG and the self-appointed HBIC, NeNe Leakes, but after she up and left mid-Season 12 reunion, it doesn't seem like a likely scenario.

#HipHopNews: Soulja Boy And Bow Wow To Face Off In Verzuz Battle!

Soulja Boy and Bow Wow are set to face off in an upcoming edition of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Verzuz series. Soulja Boy made the announcement on Saturday (May 22), but Verzuz has yet to reveal a date for the matchup.

“Soulja Boy vs Bow wow #verzuz it’s official 🔥👀,” Soulja tweeted.

The rappers have collaborated before on songs like “Marco Polo” and even released a full project, 2016’s Ignorant Shit.

Soulja recently joked that Bow Wow was “scared” to battle him. “Bow Wow scared of me, man. You see when Romeo said something, he jumped right on it but as soon as they said Big Draco name, Bow Wow be quiet as hell making up all types of excuses, man. Bow Wow knows what’s up with me, man,” Soulja told Tampa Bay’s Wild 94.1.

While they remain friends, Soulja Boy is ready to bring the smoke. “That’s my boy, though. I love Bow Wow, you know what I’m saying? That’s like my friend in real life. That’s like my real brother, but when it comes to Verzuz and all that, stop playing Bow Wow.”

Romeo previously challenged Bow Wow to a Verzuz battle, prompting a response from Bow. “You sure you want this smoke? i see you calling me out. You sure this what you want to do?” he responded on Twitter.

But fans have been demanding a Soulja Boy vs. Bow Wow matchup. “He know everybody in the world, everybody on Twitter, everybody say they wanna see Bow Wow vs. Soulja Boy, but he wanna battle Romeo ’cause he know he gon’ win that one and he know Big Draco gon’ give him that real smoke,” said Soulja.

Lady Gaga says the producer who raped her LOCKED her in a studio for months!

Lady Gaga spoke in the Apple TV+ series "The Me You Can't See" about being raped at 19 years old.

She said the man who raped her kept her "locked away" in a studio for months and impregnated her.

Gaga said he dropped her off on a corner by her parents' home when she was pregnant and "vomiting."

Lady Gaga said she was impregnated by a music producer who raped her when she was 19 years old.

The "Rain On Me" singer, now 35, detailed the abuse in Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey's Apple TV+ docuseries, "The Me You Can't See," released Thursday.

After Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, went to a hospital to seek treatment for physical pain years after being raped, she said, the recurring sensation of intense pain turning into numbness felt familiar.

"I realized that it was the same pain that I felt when the person who raped me dropped me off pregnant on a corner by my parents' house because I was vomiting and sick 'cause I'd been being abused," she said, adding: "I was locked away in a studio for months."

Gaga, who also said the producer threatened to "burn" her music if she didn't take off her clothes, said she didn't plan on publicly identifying him. "I do not ever want to face that person again," she said.

Gaga recalled having a "total psychotic break" after she was raped. "For a couple years, I was not the same girl," she said.

The pain persisted, however. In recent years, Gaga has been found to have post-traumatic stress disorder, which she says she developed as a result of being raped, and fibromyalgia, a condition that causes pain all over the body.

"The way that I feel when I feel pain is how I felt after I was raped," she said in "The Me You Can't See." "I've had so many MRIs and scans. They don't find nothing, but your body remembers. I couldn't feel anything. I disassociated. It's like your brain goes offline. You don't know why no one else is panicking, but you are in an ultra state of paranoia."

Gaga went on to describe the process of healing her mental health as a "slow rise," saying she could make steady progress for months before "getting triggered" and automatically feeling bad again.

It took her 2 1/2 years to learn methods - like therapy, taking care of her body, or playing music - that successfully pull herself out of the bad spells, the artist said.

"It all started to slowly change," she added.

Gaga first publicly told Howard Stern in a 2014 interview that she had been raped by a producer 20 years older than her, saying it inspired her 2013 track "Swine."

The artist said she didn't tell anyone for years, fearing she might be "defined by it."

"I'll be damned if somebody's going to say that every creatively intelligent thing that I ever did is all boiled down to one d—head that did that to me. I'm going to take responsibility for all my pain looking beautiful," Gaga said, adding, "I did that."

At the time, Gaga said she didn't have any desire to identify or confront the producer. She said she once saw him at a store, causing her to feel "paralyzed by fear."

"It wasn't until I was a little bit older that I went, 'Wow, that was really messed up,'" the "Chromatica" singer told Stern.

Sara Ramírez Joins 'Sex And The City' Sequel Series As Nonbinary Character!

The "Grey's Anatomy" actor will play a character who can provide lots of laughs.

And just like that, the upcoming “Sex and the City” sequel series has a new star.

Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Sara Ramírez will join the cast of "And Just Like That..." alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon as a series regular.

Ramírez "stars as ‘Che Diaz’ (they/them), a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian that hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured,” reads a description of Ramírez’s character in a Wednesday press release.

“Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular.”

Ramírez is best known for playing Dr. Callie Torres on "Grey's Anatomy.” In 2016, the actor came out as bisexual and last year announced they are nonbinary.

“And Just Like That...” executive producer Michael Patrick King is ecstatic Ramírez has signed on to the project, which will stream on HBO Max.

“Everyone at ‘And Just Like That…’ is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the ‘Sex and the City’ family,” he said in a press statement. “Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama — and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show.”

“And Just Like That...” will revisit the show’s main characters, who are now in their 50s. Kim Cattrall, who earned five Emmy nominations for her role in “Sex and the City” as Samantha, is not expected to appear, an absence which has some people longing for her.

“Happy to see you back but will miss Kim/Samantha,” a fan commented when Parker posted on Instagram about the new series back in January.

“We will too. We loved her so,” Parker responded.

Parker has previously said the show was not necessarily going to replace Cattrall with a fourth cast member to make a new quartet.

"It's not quite as black-and-white as that," she told TMZ in January. "We're not looking to create a fourth character."

It remains to be seen how Samantha’s omission from the series will be handled.

“Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life ..." HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys told TVLine in February.

"They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”

While Cattrall is not expected to return, other actors have expressed an interest in stepping back into their characters.

"If they wanted to have me, I’d do 'Sex and the City’ again,” Justin Theroux (who played two characters in the original series) told E! News in March.

Kyle MacLachlan, meanwhile, is in the dark if he'll be asked to reprise his role as Trey.

“So far I haven’t heard anything,” he told TODAY in April

Ex-NBA Player Kwame Brown Airs Out The Breakfast Club!

Former No. 1 NBA draft pick Kwame Brown has been on a social media rampage. The 7-footer has come out firing on fellow athletes and media members, including some scathing shots taken at The Breakfast Club radio hosts Charlamagne tha God, DJ Envy and Angela Yee.

Retired pro ballplayer Kwame Brown had been out of the public eye since he last played in the NBA in 2013. He’s been a longtime butt of jokes because his career didn’t live up to expectations, but lately he’s been hitting back hard. Brown took aim at The Breakfast Club earlier this week after Charlamagne tha God brought up a history of violence by some of Brown’s relatives.

“You (Charlamagne) wanna talk about a brother that I never met? That my father had children outside of his marriage? Just like DJ Envy cheatin’ ass? … So now it’s time to light your little rapist ass up, too. We gon’ find that girl you raped, punk. Allegedly. Matter of fact, we ain’t gotta say allegedly ’cause you on the docket, b*tch.”

Lil Nas X Says He’s Done Mentioning Nicki Minaj After Backlash From Barbz!

When Lil Nas X first rose to stardom with “Old Town Road,” it was rumored that he was so into Nicki Minaj that he used to operate a fan account about her. That turned out to be true, although Nas wasn’t forthcoming with that information for a while because he feared being outed as gay. Now, Nas is both openly gay and openly a Minaj fan, both of which he addresses on his latest song, “Sun Goes Down.” However, the Barbz, as Minaj’s fans are called, want Nas to keep her name out of his mouth and it appears he’s going to do just that.

On the track, Lil Nas X reflects on his past, including his admiration for Nicki Minaj, rapping, “I’d be by the phone / Stanning Nicki mornin’ into dawn / Only place I felt like I belonged / Strangers make you feel so loved, you know?” After the song was released, it seems some Barbz thought Nas was using her name for attention. The backlash was apparently severe enough for Nas to vow to stop talking about Minaj.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “to the barbz who feel i’m using nicki’s name for attention, the song i released last night was recorded last year. and it’s about my life which 6 of those years were dedicated to nicki. it’s no fake love. but i understand how it looks so i will no longer mention her.”

After Nas admitted he previously denied being a Barb, Minaj responded, saying that while she was initially hurt by that, she understood, writing on Twitter, “It was a bit of a sting when you denied being a barb, but I understand. Congratulations on building up your confidence to speak your truth.”

CNN drops Rick Santorum following remarks about Native Americans!

CNN has dropped former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum as a senior political commentator, a network spokeswoman confirmed on Saturday.

"We've parted ways," Vice President of Communications Alison Rudnick said by email.

The split was first reported by the Huffington Post, which reported that senior management at the news outlet was not pleased with Santorum's May 3 appearance on its "Cuomo Prime Time" show, where he attempted to clarify April remarks about Native Americans at a Young America's Foundation event. Rudnick confirmed the Huffington Post report to NBC News.

Santorum told host Chris Cuomo he "misspoke" and that his remarks were taken out of context.

"I was not trying to dismiss Native Americans," he said.

Santorum's back peddling wasn't enough, a CNN executive told the Huffington Post. Santorum did not immediately respond to a NBC News request for comment.

The initial remarks on Native Americans were widely panned as ignorant, insensitive and racist. At the Young America's Foundation event, Santorum argued there was "nothing here" before European settlers arrived.

"We came here and created a blank slate," Santorum said. "We birthed a nation from nothing. I mean, there was nothing here. I mean, yes we have Native Americans, but candidly there isn't much Native American culture in American culture."

The remarks prompted some Native Americans and progressives to call on CNN to drop Santorum.

"Televising someone with his views on Native American genocide is fundamentally no different than putting an outright Nazi on television to justify the Holocaust," Fawn Sharp, president of the National Congress of American Indians, said in a statement.

"Any mainstream media organization should fire him or face a boycott from more than 500 Tribal Nations and our allies from across the country and worldwide," she said.

Nas, LL Cool J, Fat Joe and More Break Ground With the Universal Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx!

The Universal Hip Hop Museum will pay homage to the culture-shifting genre in the place where it all started: The Bronx.

The museum held its official groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday with a slew of star-studded New York rappers, including LL Cool J, Nas, Fat Joe and Grandmaster Flash. The new hub will open in 2024 as part of a $349 million USD mixed-use project along the Harlem River slated to provide affordable housing, new public spaces and community-focused programming, according to the Associated Press.

“Hip-hop made me believe that anything was possible,” LL Cool J told the New York Post. “It was the first time that I heard, you know, young black men sound empowered. Most of the time when I saw young black men, they were, like, putting their heads down being put in a police car … This was, like, the first time where I felt like, ‘Wow. It’s possible to be powerful. It’s possible to be somebody.’”

Situated at 50 East 150th Street, the Universal Hip Hop Museum will reside only two miles away from 1520 Sedgwick Avenue — the historical birthplace of hip hop where DJ Kool Herc hosted a “back-to-school jam” on the block that was renamed to Hip Hop Boulevard in 2016.

Councilman Kevin C. Riley took to Instagram to share the importance of the museum’s construction, writing: “Today we Broke Ground on the First of its kind, Hip Hop Museum. Rappers from all generations and from all boroughs pulled up today in support of the Universal Hip Hop Museum. For a young black boy from The Bronx, Hip Hop played a pivotal role in my life. Times when I didn’t know how to express myself I would listen to lyricist @nas or @daveeast.”

Hip hop is approaching its 50th anniversary in 2023. In honor of the monumental milestone, Nas and Mass Appeal CEO Sacha Jenkins will launch Hip Hop 50, a series of original programming set to run for three years on Showtime.

Is This Lucky Number 7: Is Nick Cannon Having Another Baby?

Could Nick Cannon be expecting his seventh child, his fourth in less than a year?

That’s what some are wondering about after a model from his hit MTV series Wild N’ Out shared the name she has in mind for her unborn son, and Cannon was the surname.

The beauty, Alyssa Scott, shared a photo of herself with her growing bump and captioned the image “ZEN S. CANNON.” When asked by someone if that meant Cannon was the father, she just replied with 🥰🥰🥰.

Cannon was also seen leaving behind a couple heart emojis on a photo of her bumpin’ around. And to make it even more plain, someone commented that Scott is “gorgeous and you and Nick are going [sic] have a beautiful baby,” to which she replied, “Thank you 🙏🏽❤️

Scott is already the mother to a young daughter. As mentioned, Cannon is a father of a few kids at this point. He has his twins Morrocan and Monroe with ex-wife Mariah Carey, a son named Golden and a daughter named Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell. He currently has twin boys on the way with DJ Abby De La Rosa. If it’s true that he is the father of the son Scott is expecting, that would indeed make seven kids and counting for the 40-year-old star. Whatever the case, the rumor mill has been stirring, and Cannon has been trending over the possibility that he’s having back-to-back children.

He’s been vocal about his desire to expand his family over the years, including when he said on the ExpediTIously podcast, “I got kids. I got kids by different women and I want more kids” while at the same time, saying he didn’t want to be married or tied to one relationship. He most recently dated model Jessica White, and also model Lanisha Cole. He dated Scott, too, as the pair were pictured hanging out and riding around in his Bentley in Malibu last October. By January, she announced that she was expecting, and she’s due in June.

Processing the data, please give it a few seconds...

Are congratulations in order again? We’ll find out soon enough.

Kylie Jenner Breaks Silence On Report She And Travis Scott Are In An Open Relationship!

Earlier this month, Entertainment Tonight reported that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott, who share their daughter, Stormi, are together again.

“Kylie and Travis are messing around and having fun together,” a source tells ET. “They’ve always had a strong connection and chemistry and they’re exploring their relationship romantically again.” The source adds: “They’ve been co-parenting so well together and have a lot of love for each other,” the source adds. “Everyone around them can see that.”

On Friday morning, TMZ published a report that Jenner and Scott are in an open relationship, but it wasn't long before Jenner commented to deny it.

“you guys really just make up anything,” she star tweeted on Friday, with a screenshot of a Daily Mail article. She posted another tweet, “I’m not discrediting anyone who is in an open relationship, but it’s just careless and disrespectful to throw this narrative out there without knowing what’s true.” When a follower pointed out that TMZ was a source, she wrote, “i just saw this but yes tmz too lol.”

On the same day as the TMZ report, a source told ET that Jenner would like to have more kids—with Travis, ideally, one day.

“Kylie and Travis are trying to make things work in a way that makes sense for them,” the source said. “Travis really respects Kylie and worships the ground she walks on. She means a lot to him. He loves that Kylie is such a boss and how great of a mom she is. Kylie loves that Travis is so creative and that he makes a big effort to be involved in Stormi’s life.”

In the meantime, the two have been working on co-parenting Stormi, who turned 3 years old in February.

Regé-Jean Page’s ‘Bridgerton’ exit wasn’t a surprise to co-star Phoebe Dynevor!

Phoebe Dynevor might be the only person who wasn’t caught off guard by Regé-Jean Page quitting “Bridgerton” after only one season.

In a recent interview, the 26-year-old actress revealed that she knew in advance her on-screen husband, Page, would be announcing his departure from the hit Netflix series.

“I had a bit of a heads up, so I knew,” Dynevor explained on Variety’s “Awards Circuit” podcast on Thursday. The British actress went on to explain that the show doesn’t center around Page’s character, the Duke of Hastings, so it wouldn’t really have an affect on the storytelling.

“The show centers around the Bridgertons and there are eight books,” Dynevor said. “I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show.”

She added that she is looking forward to getting back on set, saying, “Obviously it’s sad to see [Regé-Jean] go, but I’m looking forward to being reunited with my family.”

“Bridgerton” confirmed that Page would not be returning for a second season on Instagram in April. The actor also shared the news on his personal account, adding that the experience had been an “absolute pleasure and privilege.”

Though the actor claimed the split was amicable, sources later told Page Six that creative differences were a big factor in Page’s exit.

“He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for Season 2, which would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show,” a source revealed to Page Six, adding that the series’ breakout star was now “inundated with offers” for other roles.

Are Kim and Kanye Employees Weighing Lawsuit Options?

Last year Kanye West was sued by members of his Sunday Service choir over pay and work conditions

Now domestic workers for the former couple are also considering filing suit...

From The Sun

“Since members of his Sunday Service crew sued, other employees have been considering their options.

“There’s apparently a potential lawsuit in the works against Kim involving multiple employees.

"They are believed to be domestic workers employed at her home who allegedly may have been misclassified as independent contractors instead of employees.

"If a lawsuit is filed, then one issue would be how much control Kim and her staff had over them.”

To add to Kim and Kanye’s troubles, some of the employees are said to be teenagers. The source added: “If minors were employed and worked more than the maximum limit set by law, then there may be a case of child labour violations.”

Quincy Jones Calls Elvis Presley A “Racist”!

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Quincy Jones sat down and talked about music and gave his thoughts on Elvis Presley, Billie Holiday, and George Floyd’s protests.

During the interview, Jones said, “No. I wouldn’t work with him,” when asked if he would have worked with Elvis Presley.

“I was writing for [orchestra leader] Tommy Dorsey, oh God, back then in the ’50s. And Elvis came in, and Tommy said, “I don’t want to play with him.” He was a racist mother — I’m going to shut up now. But every time I saw Elvis, he was being coached by [“Don’t Be Cruel” songwriter] Otis Blackwell, telling him how to sing,” spilled Jones.

Rumors have long circulated that Presley was racist.

As for Holiday, the 88-year-old legend says he started working with her when he was only 14 and that he learned an invaluable lesson.

“Oh my God, stay away from heroin,” said Jones. “She could barely get to the stage, man. She could barely walk on the stage, but Bobby Tucker was like my brother. He eventually became the music director for Billie. When she came out, we were so awestruck by her, we forgot to play the horn. He said, “Goddammit, read the music, man. Play the horns!” We were 14 years old. Come on, man. Billie Holiday.”

Jones also spoke on the George Floyd case and gave his opinion on protesters.

“It’s been coming a long time, man. People have been turning their heads the other way, but it’s all the same to me — misogyny, racism. You have to be taught how to hate somebody. It doesn’t come naturally, I don’t think. I don’t think so, unless you’ve been trained. I just think it’s such a bad habit. These racists, oh my God. Asians? How the hell do you get mad at an Asian girl?”

Former Girlfriend Of Rep. Matt Gaetz Has Agreed To Cooperate In His Sex Trafficking Case!

U.S. Rep. U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz’s ex-girlfriend has agreed to cooperate with federal investigators in his sex trafficking case.

According to a CNN report, the unidentified woman, a Capitol Hill staffer, is the second key witness for the prosecution, following a plea deal made with Gaetz’s former associate Joel Greenberg.

The woman’s relationship with Gaetz dates back to the summer of 2017, deemed a crucial period for the investigation. Investigators believe she can help decipher hundreds of transactions, believed to include alleged payments for sex.

According to Greenberg’s plea deal details, he admitted to paying at least one underage girl to have sex. He also admitted to introducing the minor to other men for sex.

Greenberg, a former Florida tax collector, and friend of Gaetz, did not specifically name his friend in his plea agreement or during his hearing on Monday.

Gaetz has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and said he would not step down from Congress amid the allegations.

Prosecutors have not yet brought any charges against Gaetz. The Justice Department will need to consider whether there’s enough evidence to make an indictment.
