J. Cole‘s Dreamville Records has expanded. The company has announced both a media company, Dreamville Ventures, and a content studio, Dreamville Studios. Leading the new division are executives Damien Scott and Candace Rodney, who Cole says are “two of the smartest and most capable” execs in the business.
“Dreamville has always been a mom-and-pop operation with grand ambitions and ideas that extend far beyond music,” he told Variety. “The hiring of Damien and Candace not only expands our family business with two of the smartest and most capable executives in the industry, but allows us to take a massive leap towards turning those big ideas into reality.”
Dreamville co-founder Ibrahim Hamad also echoed Cole’s sentiments.
“Dreamville is a brand we built from the ground up and the appointments of Damien and Candace allows us to take the company to levels we’ve always dreamed of while keeping our core values and beliefs at the forefront of our expansion,” he said.
Dreamville recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of their Grammy-nominated Revenge Of The Dreamers III compilation effort, which featured a staggering 65 artists. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making for Cole’s sixth consecutive number-one album. Journalist Says Prince Visited Him To ‘Gobble’ Supply Of Percocet!
A journalist claims Prince once visited his apartment just to gorge on his stash of prescribed opioids.
In “This Thing Called Life,” author Neal Karlen recounts his decades-long relationship with the musical superstar.
In 1997, Karlen writes that he had broken five bones in his leg while Rollerblading and was housebound for months. One day Prince called — the two hadn’t chatted for four months — and had a conversation about “a dozen topics” including Karlen’s “unlimited” supply of Percocet pills that he had been prescribed post-surgery.
The “Let’s Go Crazy” singer said he wanted to come over immediately which Karlen notes, “was not in character.
“He’d been to my apartment but not for a few years, and for him to schlep so far to pay a little sympathy call felt … meaningful.”
Turns out it was meaningful for a different reason. The diminutive rocker wanted the pill supply.
“I didn’t even have time to offer him a glass of water before he spied the white Walgreen’s bottle of pills in my living room,” he writes.
“Prince gobbled a third of the bottle like they were M&Ms, and my heart sank. It was f—king true. I’d heard rumors for years that he’d been off and on heavy painkillers ever since the ‘Purple Rain’ tour a dozen years before,” he continued.
On April 20, 2016, Prince died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl. He was 57.
A spokesperson for the singer’s estate declined to comment.
Chris Brown Reportedly Makes Late-Night Visit To Adele’s London Home!
Chris Brown and Adele’s friendship is strong. Brown, 31, was spotted making a late-night visit to the British songstress’ house in London last week, according to The Sun.
“It was all a bit cloak and dagger,” an eyewitness told the UK publication. “He arrived in the middle of the night and didn’t leave until around 2 a.m.”
The visit couldn’t have been romantic, as Brown is said to be in the UK with his rumored girlfriend Gina Huynh. Brown is also friends with Adele’s rumored beau Skepta.
Brown first flew to Germany to visit his son Aeko, whom he shares with ex Ammika Harris. She and Aeko have been there throughout the pandemic. He posted a photo of their reunion on Instagram and wrote, “MADE IT❤️.”
Brown and Adele, 32, have been friends since meeting for the first time at the 2013 Grammys. A photo of their meeting went viral because it showed what looked like the “Hello” singer and the “Go Crazy” crooner fighting, but Adele later clarified on Twitter that they were complimenting each other.
At the time, Brown responded to her tweet and thanked her for clearing the air on the feud rumors.

Tory Lanez Handed Protective Order, Cannot Contact Megan Thee Stallion!
Tory Lanez was scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles, where he is facing multiple felony charges in connection with a July 12 arrest. The arraignment has been postponed, Variety and TMZ report. The next hearing will take place on November 18, the Daily News reports can Pitchfork can confirm.
Tory Lanez reportedly attended today’s hearing via telephone. At the hearing, the judge issued a protective order, ruling that Tory Lanez cannot contact or come within 100 yards of Megan Thee Stallion. “You have been served orally and the court is ordering your attorney to provide you with that protective order,” Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Miguel Espinoza said, according to the Daily News.
Tory Lanez was arrested in July and booked for having a concealed firearm in a vehicle. According to TMZ’s initial report, Megan Thee Stallion was present at the scene of the arrest. Days after Tory Lanez’s arrest, Meg said that she had suffered gunshot wounds “as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me.” One month later, she named Tory Lanez as the assailant.
On October 8, Tory Lanez was charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. In a press release announcing the charges against Tory Lanez, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office noted that the rapper “also faces a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.”
Tory Lanez has denied allegations of wrongdoing. He also addrssed the situation on his album DAYSTAR.
In an op-ed published in The New York Times today, Megan Thee Stallion wrote, “I was recently the victim of an act of violence by a man. After a party, I was shot twice as I walked away from him.” Tory Lanez is not named in the article.

#Prayers: Normani Shares That Her Mother’s Cancer Has Returned!
Normani’s mother’s cancer has returned. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me 🙏🏾 I did it once and I’ll do it again! #CancerWho,” Andrea Hamilton captioned a photo of her holding a crucifix on Instagram Sunday.
“The strongest woman that I know! My warrior,” Normani, 24, commented.
The “Motivation” singer also shared her mom’s photo on her Instagram Story and added, “we got this mommy [heart emoji].”
Hamilton first battled breast cancer when the former Fifth Harmony singer was just 5 years old.
“I didn’t know much about breast cancer, and though I was always educated by my doctors to do my self breast exams and everything, I took it for granted,” Hamilton told Paper magazine in 2018. “You can kind of turn a blind eye until it actually happens to you. I was about 33 years old and I wasn’t doing my breast exams on a regular basis. I don’t know what it was but something told me to check that day that I found the lump. I immediately went to the doctor. By doing my own self breast exam I caught it at an early stage.”
Hamilton recalled having to shave her head when her hair started falling out, which scared a then-toddler Normani.
“All Normani knew was that mommy had gotten sick. When I started going through chemotherapy and radiation, my hair started falling out, so one day, my husband shaved my head. … It frightened her; she didn’t know what was going on,” Hamilton shared.
“That was one of the hardest times of my life—to not just go through what I was going through but to have my child feel fearful about what was happening.”
Johnson & Johnson's Coronavirus Vaccine Trials Paused After Participant Gets 'Unexplained Illness'!
Johnson & Johnson has announced that it has paused coronavirus vaccine trials after a participant developed an “unexplained illness.”
STAT reported that the company was running a 60,000-patient clinical trial for a COVID-19 vaccine, but they sent out a document stating a “pausing rule.”
Johnson & Johnson confirmed to the outlet that the trials are on pause because of “an unexplained illness in a study participant.”
“We must respect this participant’s privacy. We’re also learning more about this participant’s illness, and it’s important to have all the facts before we share additional information,” the company said in a statement.
The company also noted that the vaccine study is not on a clinical hold, which would be a more serious matter. Clinical trial pauses are reportedly not uncommon.
On September 23, President Trump reacted to the news that J&J was in the final stage of clinical trials on the vaccine and he urged the FDA to move quickly on approving the vaccine.
“Big news. Numerous great companies are seeing fantastic results. @FDA must move quickly!” Trump said at the time.
Gal Gadot’s Casting As Cleopatra Ignites Controversy!
Actress Gal Gadot announced this week she’ll star as legendary Egyptian queen Cleopatra in a film from her “Wonder Woman” director, Patty Jenkins, and some of the reactions have been contentious.
“Which Hollywood dumb-ass thought it would be a good idea to cast an Israeli actress as Cleopatra (a very bland looking one) instead of a stunning Arab actress like Nadine Njeim?” journalist Sameera Khan tweeted Sunday, adding, “Shame on you, Gal Gadot. Your country steals Arab land & you’re stealing their movie roles... smh.”
Others, who believe Cleopatra to have been Black, accused the film of “another attempt to white wash a historical figure” and Gadot of denying “important roles to women of color.”
“Ummm... you’re not Egyptian though? Why would you accept a role that may offend others? ... It’s very selfish of you and I’d rethink the role,” tweeted one user.
Actor and Amnesty UK Ambassador Nazanin Boniadi defending Gadot’s casting, writing, “Cleopatra was ethnically Macedonian Greek” and called for people to “stop shaming @GalGadot and dividing people based on falsities. Reserve your outrage for world issues that urgently need our attention.”
Though the iconic ruler was born in Egypt, she was “ethnically Greek” and not “ethnically Egyptian,” according to Smithsonian Magazine and History — formerly known as The History Channel.
Cleopatra “traced her family origins to Macedonian Greece and Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Great’s generals," and was the first in her line to learn the Egyptian language, having “embraced many of her country’s ancient customs.”
The 35-year-old “Justice League” star shared the casting news.
“As you might have heard I teamed up with @PattyJenks and @LKalogridis to bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she’s never been seen before," Gadot tweeted. "To tell her story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera.”

Snoop Dogg paid homage to his late friend Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers with a bold commitment: a giant arm tattoo.
The rapper got his entire forearm inked up after the Lakers beat the Miami Heat on Sunday night in Game 6 of the NBA finals.
In honor of the team’s 17th championship title and the NBA icon who died tragically in a helicopter crash earlier this year, the 48-year-old got tattoo artist Mister Cartoon to sketch out a detailed tribute featuring Bryant’s initials, the NBA championship trophy, the Lakers team logo and the gates of heaven.
The rapper shared a video of himself getting the ink on Instagram, followed by another video of himself talking about the image in detail.
“As you see, tat is done. KB on the bottom. Kobe Bryant. Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy with the Lakers going through the ball. Gates of heaven up top, and it don’t stop. Laker Nation. Thank y’all, Lakers,” Snoop says in the video.

The California native has not been quiet about his love of the NBA team over the years, nor has he shied away from talking about his grief after Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, died in January.
During the ESPY Awards in June, he performed a tribute for Bryant in which he rapped over footage of Bryant’s career and murals that have gone up since the star’s death.
“You beat the odds by a mile / All grit no smile / A new golden child / Let’s do it mamba style,” Snoop rapped.

Unofficial Pride Party ‘Packed’ With Revellers Ends In Tragedy As Man Collapses And Dies!
An unofficial Atlanta Pride party ended in tragedy as a man lost consciousness and died.
The man died while attending a party at BJ Roosters, a gay bar on Cheshire Bridge Road, that stretched into the early hours of Sunday morning (October 11).
He was pronounced dead 8am at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta Police told the WXIA-TV network.
After consuming ecstasy, the man was found in the club’s basement unconscious. The force found no signs of foul play, but an investigation is ongoing.
While a party-goer told the Advocate that the event was “packed” and “overcapacity at times”, Atlanta Pride organisers sought to stress that the club night was not an official Pride event, and that it had only approved virtual events.

The industrial bar heaved with party-goers, footage of the event shared on social media showed, for Xion, a gay circuit party thrown by Ga Boy Events.
The group had organised a roster of unofficial events during the Atlanta Pride weekend, including one at a shopping mall and another at District Atlanta – a club which held a made headlines after an August event which saw similarly packed scenes.
A Xion attendee told the Advocate that pandemic guidelines were not enforced by business owners or staffers at the event. He claimed the victim – a Black man in his mid to late 30s – fell to the ground at around 6:30am.
There were no emergency medical technicians at Xion, the witness claimed, with it taking more than 30 minutes for first-responders to arrive to the scene. “And I’m being generous,” he said.
Bar staff seemed “unprepared” to handle the medical emergency and it took some time for the music to be switched off. “It was tragic,” the witness added.
“I’ve been to parties all over the world, I have never been to one without EMTs. In my opinion, this could have been avoided.”
The death of the victim, who has not yet been named, came as footage of the gathering prompted sharp criticism from social media users.
Often against backdrops of fatigue, packed circuit parties have become flashpoints of resentment in recent months, drawing intense fury from social media users, local leaders and — chiefly — frustrated public health officials who note social distancing is among the most effective tools for stemming the spread of the virus.

Georgia County Votes to Name Elementary School After Michelle Obama!
Last week, Georgia officials voted to rename a local elementary school after our forever First Lady, Michelle Obama.
According to The Hill, the Clayton County Board of Education decided, in a 7-2 vote, to rename the South Clayton Elementary School. Now, the board is reaching out to Mrs. Obama for permission to give the school her name.
If approved, the Jonesboro school will be named Michelle Obama Stem Elementary School.
At the time of the vote, the school had also considered naming the school after late civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis. In fact, the two opposing votes were in favor of a Lewis school.
“I’m a John Lewis girl,” one of the board members said ahead of the Monday vote. “I love Michelle, but I have to go with John Lewis,” the other said.
But, with the 7-2 vote to rename the school, the Clayton County school will become the second school this year to be named after the forever First Lady.
California Republicans Are Accused Of Installing Fake Ballot Drop-Off Boxes!
Officials in California are accusing Republicans of installing fake ballot drop-off boxes across the state.
The Washington Post reports that California Republicans are pushing for voters to drop off their mail-in ballots in specific boxes – which are actually unofficial drop-off boxes and illegal, according to state officials.
The sign on the fake boxes read “Official ballot drop-off box” and are reportedly placed near gun stores, churches and gyms.
A California Republican regional field director asked people in a now-deleted tweet to DM him for “convenient locations” to drop off their ballots to encourage using the fake boxes.
Alex Padilla, California’s Democratic Secretary of State, said, “Operating unofficial ballot drop boxes — especially those misrepresented as official drop boxes — is not just misleading to voters, it’s a violation of state law.”
“My office is coordinating with local officials to address the multiple reports of unauthorized ballot drop boxes. Californians should only use official ballot drop boxes that have been deployed and secured by their county elections office,’ he added.
Putting up an unofficial ballot box and advertising it is a felony that carries between two to four years in prison.
In a reply on Twitter, the official California Republican Twitter account defended the boxes. “If a congregation/business or other group provides the option to its parishioners/associates/or colleagues to drop off their ballot in a safe location, with people they trust, rather than handing it over to a stranger who knocks on their door – what is wrong with that?” it said.
