The Daily Buzz For June 25 ☕πŸ“°☕

Nicholas Hoult for GQ Hype UK - June 2020!
The Great” star Nicholas Hoult covers the latest issue of British GQ Hype magazine photographed by Shane McCauley and styled by Luke Day.
Nicholas Hoult doesn’t want to say the wrong thing. When we speak to him in early June, the world is still in the midst of a global pandemic, during which we’ve seen the facade of celebrity crumble somewhat, as the gaping chasm between “regular” people and the stars they admire has become more evident than ever before. Hoult, who is charming and self-aware over the phone from his home in Los Angeles, is reticent to preach from a position of privilege.

“I was reading this article a while ago, about how celebrities are telling people to stay home,” he says, “and then complaining about doing so in their $50 million houses and that wasn’t flying well with people because they’re not living in the same environment. And then to preach their viewpoint… I want to send the right message and do the right thing.”

In line with that, his message about the Black Lives Matter movement – which is in full flight as we speak, six days after the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis – is clear: he knows he is not who people need to hear from right now and is looking inward and donating money to causes he hopes will help instead. “We [as white people] never fully understand. You can listen and educate yourself and then try to make a positive change from that.”

#MusicNews: Mario “Rewrite It”!
Singer Mario is taking a stand and letting his music do the talking. Inspired by what he sees going on around him in the world today, Mario took to the studio to pen the impactful new ballad “Rewrite It”.
Mario attempts to reach out to his generation and remind them of the power they possess as a collective of people. He adds about the inspiration behind the song:

“Having a voice and talent means nothing if you aren’t using your platform when it matters the most. Sovereignty has to be declared and this is my declaration. In the song I talk about being reserved and generations understanding who they are and the magnitude of their power. As an artist, I’m extremely passionate about standing up for what I believe in and using my gifts to reach the masses.”

LISTEN

Mario hopes that the listener will be inspired to create new beginnings and take back their own story.

To go along with the inspirational song, Mario has created a line of merchandise called “The Big Payback”. A portion of the proceeds will go to black owned businesses in an attempt to promote growth in under served communities.

#HipHopNews: J. Prince Responds To 'Dumb Boy' YoungBoy Never Broke Again: 'Texas Is My Business'!
YoungBoy Never Broke Again told J. Prince to “mind [his] fuckin’ business” over the weekend after the 20-year-old rapper’s home was burglarized. The Rap-A-Lot Records founder publicly announced he’d retrieved some of YoungBoy’s stolen goods, which evidently didn’t please the victim.
Now, Prince has issued another very public response. On Tuesday (June 23), the label executive shared his thoughts via Instagram and christened YoungBoy with a new nickname in the process.
“I see you took my kindness for weakness,” he says in the clip. “But you a dumb boy with limited thinking abilities and disrespectful, talking slick and acting like you and your brother wasn’t down with me letting it be known your mob ties connect.

“But I talked to your brother and I believe every word he said about you knowing because he’s been solid with it. Been knowing your brother for years and never witnessed no weak shit. So OG3, we good.”
Prince continued, “But you seem to be dumber than a box of rocks when you defy wisdom. What you should be mad about is the lie you did and the weak ass security being asleep in front of your house. I bet he lied to you about being asleep. That’s free game I just gave you, but it probably went over your head.

“Let me say this to you little homie, you’re not a friend or enemy today. Let’s keep it that way no matter how hot it gets in Texas. By the way, I’m minding my business, you’re just too dumb to know Texas is my business and I will give you whatever you ask for, good or bad. I’m done.”
News of the incident appeared to fall into Prince’s lap. In another Instagram video, he explained how he ended up with some of his stolen items.
“Lil homie YoungBoy place got broke into,” he said. “People went in his place, disrespected different things, and, you know, I got a call about it,” Prince explained. “And the lil homies that went into this place wanna make that right because they understand that, you know what I mean, YoungBoy family is OK with me.
“To make a long story short, I got your keys to your Rolls Royce. I got your keys to your McLaren. You know, all the shit that they took.”
YoungBoy clearly didn’t appreciate the gesture and blasted Prince for even talking about it on social media.

“It’s plenty ways to get in touch with me,” he said in another IG video. “Man, don’t get on no internet and do naan publicly. Don’t do naan dealin’ with no fuckin’ publicity. None of that pussy ass shit. I’m good on them keys, gangsta. When you buy that shit cash, two keys come with the car anyways. Mind your fuckin’ business, mane.”

Bill Cosby Is Granted An Appeal In 2018 Sexual Assault Case!
82-year-old Bill Cosby has been granted an appeal to fight his 2018 sexual assault case before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
According to reports, the Supreme Court has agreed to review two aspects of the case that Bill Cosby’s lawyers challenged on appeal. The first involves the judge’s decision to let prosecutors call five other accusers and introduce evidence that Bill Cosby had given quaaludes to women in the past.

The court will also examine Cosby’s argument that he had an agreement with a former prosecutor that he’d never be charged in the case. Cosby says he relied on that agreement before agreeing to testify in the trial accuser’s civil lawsuit.
Cosby has been the subject of highly publicized sexual allegations and scrutiny dating back to one of his first alleged incidents in the mid 1960’s.  One of the more recent allegations took place in May 2020 when fellow comedian, Rosie O’Donnell, claimed Bill Cosby sexually harassed one of her producers while appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen.

“Okay, well I’m going to tell you a story about what happened to a staff member on our show. Very tall, like 6 foot tall, larger woman. Very great producer. She was assigned to do his mystery guest. He was there was a mystery guest.  Now news flash, I knew who the mystery guest was all the time. I just was acting along with it… So, in the room, the green room, the producer goes in and she’s talking and saying to Bill Cosby, ‘You know, she’s not going to know that it’s you’ and he said ‘All she has to do is put her hand right here’, and he put his hand near his penis, ‘And she’ll know it’s me.’”

She claimed, “She started to cry and got up and left.  Then our producer, who is an African American man, the executive producer.  He went in and had a big discussion with Bill Cosby about what’s appropriate and what’s not, and then they didn’t tell me about it until after the show. So, I was not very uh, you know, I was one of those people who was not surprised by all of his, um, the charges against him.”

While the famed “Cosby Show” actor has been serving his three to ten years in prison sentence since 2018, his legal team has been vying for his early release as recent as April 2020, citing that their client, Cosby, would not be able to survive the coronavirus outbreak.

Cosby’s spokesperson, Andrew Wyatt, issued a statement:
“Around the Fall of 2019, Actor & Comedian Bill Cosby was forced to have two major surgeries in-order to sustain his life (prevent him from having a stroke and/or heart attack). During a visit to the infirmary at SCI-Phoenix for high blood pressure issues, Mr. Cosby was informed that the carotid arteries on the right and left side of his neck had 90% blockage due to plaque build-up (the carotid arteries are the major blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain, neck and face). Those surgeries were done separately and they were successful. Mr. Cosby now takes medication for high blood pressure and he is 100% blind from glaucoma.”

It was reported that Philadelphia Governor Tom Wolf issued an executive order for the early release of up to 1,800 inmates from Pennsylvania state prisons in an effort to minimize the spread of the virus.  Cosby was not granted an early release.

MLB to Kick Off Season in July Amid Pandemic!
The Major League Baseball Players Association has reportedly come to an agreement.
The baseball league will kick off the 2020 season in July, ending their hiatus due to the global health crisis, according to new reports from CBS Sports and ESPN on Tuesday (June 23).
According to the reports, players agreed to go to training camp on July 1, with a planned Opening Day for July 24. The season will consist of 60 games, and will end in September – which is less than half of the typical games played in a usual season.

The post-season will come to an end by October, which coincides with Dr. Anthony Fauci‘s recommendation that the sport “avoids” the colder late fall and winter season.
“Players would receive the full prorated share of their salaries — about 37 percent of their full-season salaries and around $1.5 billion total…players would not receive forgiveness on the $170 million salary advance they received as part of the March agreement and would get no money from the postseason,” ESPN reported.

The exact health and safety protocols have yet to be determined, according to CBS Sports.

6IX9INE Goes after Future, Meek Mill, And Gucci Mane!
The “Trollz” rapper is still celebrating his first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and calling out those who doubted him. After putting streaming services and other fan bases on blast yesterday, 6ix9ine is making a list and “dragging” other rappers including Future, Meek Mill, and Gucci Mane.

In his minute-long video, he addressed his numerous rivals. “Today I’m No. 1 in the world, right? And I just wanna address a couple things. I wanna drag them some more,” he said before pulling out a piece of paper. “I got a list!”
He started by once again clowning Future for not having any solo No. 1 records. “You’ve been rapping for close to a decade,” said Tekashi. “You have many Drake features but you never went No. 1.”

Next on his hit list was frequent target Meek Mill, who he claims has been rapping for “close to a decade” without a No. 1. “You never went No. 1 either,” he added.
He didn’t stop there, calling out the “little guys,” including Lil Durk (“You’re pretty local, you never went No. 1, sir”) and G Herbo (“I don’t think you entered the top 100”).
Gucci Mane also felt Tekashi’s wrath (“Never been No. 1 either, sir”) as well as Trippie Redd. “We’re signed to the same label, never went No. 1,” he said of his 10K Projects labelmate, while wearing a Trippie Redd shirt.

He ended by addressing the entire New York rap community: “Every New York rapper that’s a male that’s not old, you never been No. 1.”
6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj’s “Trollz” debuted atop the Hot 100 this week with 116,000 units sold, the highest weekly sales sum in over a year. Upon hearing the news, a defiant Tekashi declared victory against his detractors.

“YOU CANT STOP ME. YOU CANT BLACKBALL ME,” he wrote. “YOU CAN SAY WHAT EVER IM NUMBER 1 AND YOU CANT TAKE THAT FROM ME I WENT UP AGAINST THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AND WON!!!!!!!!!”

Four Authors Quit J.K. Rowling Agency Over Transgender Comments!
LOS ANGELES - Blair Partnership have resigned, expressing dissatisfaction that the company did not issue a statement supporting transgender rights.
The authors include Drew Davies, Ugla Stefania Kristjonudottir Jonsdottir, Fox Fisher, and a fourth who preferred to stay anonymous. They issued a statement detailing the reasons for their resignation.

"This decision is not made lightly, and we are saddened and disappointed it has come to this," the statement read. "After J. K. Rowling's — who is also signed to the agency — public comments on transgender issues, we reached out to the agency with an invitation to reaffirm their stance to transgender rights and equality. After our talks with them, we felt that they were unable to commit to any action that we thought was appropriate and meaningful. Freedom of speech can only be upheld if the structural inequalities that hinder equal opportunities for underrepresented groups are challenged and changed."

"We stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA — and allied — staff in all areas of publishing who are working incredibly hard to champion diverse voices and experiences to challenge the homogeneity of the industry," the statement continued.

"But the issues of inequality and oppression are far reaching, from racism to ableism and sexism. Agencies and publishers need to create platforms for underrepresented groups from the ground up and make meaningful change within their culture. Representation must extend into real and authentic representation of diverse voices."
The authors note that "trans women are women, trans men are men and non-binary identities are valid."

The group has said it will make a collective donation to Shakti Women's Aid, a charity that supports BAME women who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.
The Blair Partnership said in response that while they took pride in the diversity of their authors' views and believed in freedom of speech for all, they would not re-educate staff to meet the demands of a few clients.
The resigned authors' profiles are no longer on The Blair Partnership's clients page, which continues to be headlined by Rowling.

Earlier, staff at Rowling's publisher Hachette were informed that they couldn't refuse to work on her new book "The Ickabog."

Nick Cordero's Wife Says He Had a 'Good Day' During Hospital Visit Amid Health Battle!
Nick Cordero is making some improvement.
The 41-year-old Broadway star, who has been battling for his life for months in the hospital amid complications due to coronavirus, was “very responsive” during a visit from wife Amanda Kloots, she revealed on Tuesday (June 23).
He was not only able to move his eyes, but also regained some use of his jaw.
“I asked if he could move his jaw, and he was able to move his jaw a little bit…so, good day,” she explained during an Instagram Live session with fans.
His weak blood pressure, however, remains “a little bit of an issue.”

“Our goal is to try to strengthen his body. He’s very, very, very weak after laying in the ICU bed for 83 days,” she revealed, adding that he’s unable to cough.
“Nick isn’t strong enough to cough. Because Nick can’t cough because he isn’t strong enough…he can’t get all that stuff in the bottom of his lungs out. And when [the doctors] go down there to clean his lungs out, they can’t get down there enough either. So there could be some underlying infection still in that deep, deep, low part of his lungs,” she explained.

“It’s crazy how slow this is. It’s a marathon, and I’m not done running my marathon. If we’re only on mile 1, then bring on every other mile. But that’s how slow things are moving, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the day-to-day support coming my way with this,” she went on to say.
She recently shared a photo from a visit to the hospital, holding his hand in a new photo.

We are wishing the best to Nick in his continued recovery.

Jimmy Kimmel Apologizes for Infamous Karl Malone Impression Using Blackface!
Jimmy Kimmel issued an apology for a skit he did about 20 years ago. The act in question saw him use blackface for an impression of former NBA superstar, Karl Malone, a sketch that has resurfaced amid the unrest across the country.
In a statement obtained by CNN, Kimmel said the routine was a part of one of his first gigs working at KROQ radio in the mid-1990s. The success of it eventually saw him keep the gag running as he moved over to television. He admitted he never foresaw this coming to this point, saying it was an “imitation of a fellow human,” adding that he did similar ones portraying Oprah and Snoop Dogg. He says now he sees how they were wrong and called them “embarrassing.” Kimmel said, “It’s frustrating that these thoughtless moments have become a weapon used by some to diminish my criticisms of social and other injustices.”

In his lengthy statement, the longtime late-night talk show host noted that he has “evolved and matured” but realizes his past won’t just disappear. He said he expects this will again be used to “quiet me.” He wrapped up his message by saying that he “won’t be bullied into silence by those who feign outrage to advance their oppressive and genuinely racist agendas.” In regards to what took so long for an apology, Kimmel said it was a “mistake” waiting that long and apologized to those who were hurt by the skits.

Last week, Kimmel announced he would be taking a break from hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! As he plans to spend more time with family. The ABC personality said that new episodes wouldn’t come until after the summer. After re-runs air for two weeks, Kimmel noted a slew of guests would contribute in filling in for him while he gets what he calls a much-needed break after nearly 18 years.

Kimmel was also recently announced to be the host of the 72nd Emmy Awards, which remain on schedule to air on Sept. 20 on ABC. Production is said to be preparing for both a traditional broadcast and a virtual presentation.

Woman Arrested For Setting Fire to Wendy’s Where Rayshard Brooks Was Killed!
A white woman believed to be Rayshard Brooks’ girlfriend has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to the Wendy’s, where Brooks was shot dead by an officer.
Natalie White was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the same time Brooks’ funeral was being held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Just before he was killed, Brooks told police he had been with a woman named Natalie White that night; however, it hasn’t been confirmed if this is the same woman.

Brooks was a married father-of-four, but after being pulled over in Wendy’s parking lot, he reportedly told cops he was there to pick up food for him and his ‘girlfriend ‘Natalie White.’
An arrest warrant was issued this week for White, who they said was filmed on a surveillance camera setting the Wendy’s on fire after Brooks was killed on June 12.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit arrested White around 3:30 pm, but her relationship with Brooks has not been independently confirmed.

The officer who fired two shots in Brooks’ back, Garrett Rolfe, has been arrested and charged with felony murder and 10 other counts.

FBI Says “No Crime Was Committed” In Bubba Wallace NASCAR Noose Case; Noose Has Been There!
The FBI has announced the results of its investigation into the noose found in Bubba Wallace’s garage stall at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. According to TMZ, the FBI has determined “no crime was committed.”
Apparently, the noose had been there since 2019, and according to NASCAR, it was just a “garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose.”
“Bubba Wallace was not the target of a hate crime,” the organization added, as the FBI released its own statement to explain the unfortunate situation.

“On Monday, fifteen FBI special agents conducted numerous interviews regarding the situation at Talladega Superspeedway. After a thorough review of the facts and evidence surrounding this event, we have concluded no federal crime was committed.”
Though the noose was mysteriously found in Wallace’s #4 garage, the FBI said the driver was assigned to the garage last week, and because of that, no one could have known to put the noose there to purposely offend Wallace.
“Although the noose is now known to have been in Garage #4 in 2019, nobody could have known Mr. Wallace would be assigned to Garage #4 last week.”

“We offer our thanks to Nascar, Mr. Wallace and everyone who cooperated with this investigation,” the FBI said, after explaining its decision to not pursue charges.
