Preparing for a debate with Angela Rye means a multitude of things. It is knowing that if you are not on point, your moment could end “at the comma, dawg.” It is realizing that she is ardent about not accepting bigotry from the leaders of this free nation. Last but certainly not least, it is knowing that she will read you from head to toe if you do not respect her voice.
She’s gone viral for the aforementioned and more because she believes the American people deserve to hear her truth and, oftentimes, the truth of Black America. Quick to point out she is not the voice for Black America, hers is certainly one worth hearing.
Rye has all but destroyed fellow political analysts for attempting to disguise facts. For her trouble, she’s often cast as a fiery proponent of the people and for the people. While all that may be true to the naked eye or the uncovered ear, it was never something she set out to do.
“I’ve never strived to be the argumentative, combative voice that people have associated me with from one lane or one argument they saw go viral online,” she explains. “It is about me educating us and about holistic existence. We’re so multilayered.”
Ironically, while quarantining in her Los Angeles home, the Seattle-born CEO of a Washington, D.C.-based political advocacy firm has rediscovered how multilayered she is. Given ample time to shelter in place and be still, she admits to being patient, but in the same breath says she is more of an introvert than she’d imagined. She is truly passionate about cooking, so much so that she might “want to do something in that space.”
If that process began with a simple social media post of her making old-fashioned biscuits, it is sure to continue with creative efforts such as her master class, “On 1 With Angela Rye.” Literally born from the coronavirus pandemic, the master class features A-list celebrities and influencers who provide facts about their respective professions in real time. Chris Paul (“Pick and Roll”), D-Nice (“Social Distance DJ”) and Patti LaBelle (“Cooking with Patti LaBelle”) are among a growing list of stars who have already contributed to the cause.
“I knew that this would get mentally tough for people, and I wanted to do something that sparks joy, that taught people something new, that gave them something to laugh at — even if it was me,” Rye explains. “But I really wanted to strive to learn from people who I really respect, who I have access to, that maybe everyone else doesn’t.”

‘RHOA’s Cynthia Bailey & fiancé Mike Hill open up about why they took to the streets of LA to protest with their daughters despite a worldwide pandemic!
The Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Cynthia Bailey, 53, fiancé Mike Hill, 49, and their three daughters took a break from quarantining to peacefully protest following the brutal murder of George Floyd on May 25. “It felt so good to go out in the name of justice.”
“One of the things that surprised me the most was the people. It was so many people, all kinds of people…people were handing out water to everyone and giving snacks [out], antibacterial, masks, anything you could need,” Cynthia explained. Mike echoed, “People carrying cases down to the protests to make sure that people stayed hydrated during the march. I was blown away by the love and the compassion and just the unity…I think our kids actually took us down there as well.”
Cynthia began dating the FoxSports host after meeting on The Steve Harvey Show in 2018. The two got engaged during filming of ‘RHOA’ at Cynthia’s The Bailey Wine Cellar in July 2019. Lately, the couple has been spending plenty of time in Los Angeles as they wait to see if they can hold their 10/20/20 wedding safely in Atlanta because of the worldwide pandemic.
Mike’s daughters from a previous relationship, Kayla Hill, 18, and Ashlee’ Hill, 20, and Cynthia’s daughter Noelle Robinson, 20, have quickly become a united family during these tough times. “One of the reasons why we actually wanted to take our daughters, not that they’re not at the age to go themselves, but we’re still in a pandemic, of course, but we felt like we just needed to get out and go and see what was happening for ourselves,” Cynthia said. “Watching the news it just looked like the world was going crazy.”
The couple also discussed the stresses of raising their daughters during these tough times as we’re seeing more racial profiling and police brutality happening across the country. “Scary and empowering, for sure,” Cynthia said of being a mother of a black daughter in this day and age. “Our kids don’t know a lot of the racism that we had to go through. “I’m afraid anytime my daughters leave the house because of the world we live in and not just because of the police but because of racism and the world that we live in,” added Mike.
Cynthia and Mike are happy to use their celebrity voices to spread a message of love and equality during these trying times, and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. “I was actually on a group text with some of my cast mates and we were talking about doing something with our production company and even having the network taking a stand with us to promote and support Black Lives Matter for the show,” Cynthia said.
“We talk about everything else. This is something that we should absolutely be doing PSAs about as well as a group as just black people and a black cast, so we’re definitely thinking about doing some things together as a group which is great,” she poignantly explained. “I think collectively, there’s always more power than just one or two of us doing it, so that’s one thing that we’re going to be discussing. One thing about this group of ladies is, regardless if we get along all of the time or not, when it comes to doing the right thing, especially when other people are concerned and safety of our own families, we always try to come together as one. That’s when the sisterhood is real,” Cynthia added.

Portions of the thought-provoking video were inspired by a recent trip to the Dominican Republic that Franklin took with the non-profit organization, Compassion International. He serves as a music artist ambassador for the charity, which provides holistic child development to children and families in impoverished communities all over the world through local churches. Kirk is using this song as an opportunity to raise funds for the charity’s Covid-19 Disaster Relief.
Additionally, “Just For Me,” another track from Long Live Love, reached #1 at Gospel radio this week. And on Sunday, May 31st Franklin joined fellow Gospel artist Fred Hammond and Bishop T.D. Jakes for Verzuz – The Healing, a special edition of the extremely popular Instagram live series produced by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland. ‘The Flash’ Star Grant Gustin & Showrunner Eric Wallace React To Hartley Sawyer Firing!
The Flash executive producer Eric Wallace and series lead Grant Gustin are sharing their thoughts on the firing star of Hartley Sawyer from the long-running Arrowverse series after his old social media posts with racist and misogynistic references recently resurfaced.
Wallace earlier shared in a joint statement with Warner Bros. TV, The CW and Berlanti Productions announcing Sawyer would not be returning to the show for season 7. He later penned a more personal message on social media.
Referring to Sawyer’s social media posts, “they broke my heart and made me mad as hell,” Wallace wrote. “And they’re indicative of the larger problem in our country,” he continued. “Because at present, our country still accepts and protects the continual harassment — unconscious or otherwise — terrorizing and brutalizing of Black and Brown people – which is far too often fatal. That’s why our country is standing up once again and shouting “ENOUGH” to bring about active change.
In order to help facilitate that change, Wallace said he would continue to find Black and Brown writers, directors actors and producers of all genders to help tell FLASH stories. Their stories are part of the American narrative too, and must be heard. And the more you hear and see us, the more you will begin to recognize one simple fact: we are human beings too.”

Gustin, who re-posted Wallace’s message on Twitter, said he “was shocked, saddened and angry” when he saw Sawyer’s tweets. “Words matter,” he said.
Sawyer later posted an apology on Instagram with a caption that reads in part, “I’m not here to make excuses – regardless of the intention my words matter, and they carry profound consequences. And mine can and have caused pain and embarrassment, along with feelings I can only imagine, to supporters and fans, my cast mates, the crew, my colleagues and friends. I owe them all an apology. And I owe each of you an apology. Thank you for holding me accountable.”
Shemar Moore, Who is Biracial, Says He's Proud to Be Black & Proud to Be White!
Shemar Moore is opening up about his experience as a biracial man.
The 50-year-old S.W.A.T. actor has a black father and a white mother. He chatted with Love & Hip Hop Hollywood‘s Moneice Slaughter in a video message that was shared on social media.
“I am half Black and I am half white. But I am proud to be Black, but I am also proud to be white,” he said (via The Grio). “I understand what it is to be treated like a n—a when I don’t have my fame and when I’m in the wrong place at the wrong time, and nobody knows who I am. Then I’m just a n—a in the street. I’ve been thrown down on the sidewalk in my lifetime. I understand what it is. I haven’t gone through the George Floyd situation. I have not gone through that, but I know what it is. But I’m not gonna denounce the other side of me, because I’m looking at humanity.”
Shemar plays a cop on the CBS series S.W.A.T. and he also talked about having to go back to work and put on that uniform.
“With my platform, I do have to go back to work and put on an LAPD uniform, and I am confused about it,” he said. “I am struggling with it because I don’t just wanna go back and just do the dance. I have to go back and tell the real story. Because George Floyd is real, and so many others before that…I’m gonna use my platform on S.W.A.T with my celebrity–all that stuff. I’m going to speak on it. I’m gonna tell Sony and CBS and my bosses that if we don’t speak on it, then they can’t f–k with me.”
“These cops need to be corrected. Some of them are f–ked up, but a lot of them are good. Some of us Black people are beautiful, and some are f–ked up…but we all bleed red…I understand how bad sh-t is, but we have to stay optimistic. We have to stay hopeful, because we will fix this,” he added. “I can’t do it by myself, she can’t do it by herself–but we can do it collectively, together.”
Evelyn Lozada Speaks Up About Ex-Fiancé’s Domestic Violence Arrest “Carl Has Never Put His Hands On Me”!
Evelyn Lozada decided to clear the air after the rumor mill chatter tried to link her former fiancé Carl Crawford’s domestic abuse charges to her relationship with him.
Last week Crawford was arrested after a woman he had been dating alleged he threatened her with a gun and attempted to strangle her. We’re not sure whether some people assumed that woman was Evelyn Lozada, who dated Crawford for four years or if people simply associated Lozada’s history as an abuse survivor and believed Crawford may have abused her as well, but Lozada was compelled to address the rumors.
Lozada took to Instagram with a video making it clear her son’s father never abused her.

With all that’s going on in the world right now, I hate that I have to even address this… I will always be empathetic to ANYONE who has experienced any form of domestic violence and in NO WAY would I ever undermine anyone else’s alleged experience. That is their story to tell.
However, after numerous calls, tweets, DM’s and bloggers claiming that I’ve said that my ex-fiancé, Carl Crawford, intimidated or physically hurt me, I felt I had to speak regarding my relationship with Carl.
The Carl I’m hearing about lately is not the Carl I personally know. During our 4 Year engagement & while co-parenting our son, Carl has never been violent or threatening. We have a positive relationship.
Again, I take the time to speak on this for my son, who I never want to grow up and feel as if his father hurt his mother in any way.

After 70+ Years In Hollywood! The Legendary Actress Cicely Tyson Receives The Peabody Career Achievement Award!
After over 70 years in the entertainment industry, Cicely Tyson, 95, has been recognized for her hard work by receiving a Peabody Career Achievement Award. Well-known for her roles in Diary Of A Mad Black Woman, The Help, and The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, Tyson has established herself has a prominent figure in the world of TV/Film.
“She was a seminal figure of her time, and ahead of her time,” said Jeffrey P. Jones, the executive director of Peabody….” [Her] uncompromising commitment to using her craft to address the big issues of her time—gender equality, racial and social justice, equity and inclusion—places her in rare company.”
Tyson’s big break came from her role in the film Sounder (1972). It led to the 95-year-old actress being nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her performance as Rebecca Morgan. Since then, Tyson’s career as an actress has consisted of over 94 films and TV shows, three Primetime Emmy Awards, one Tony Award, an honorary Academy Award, and now a Peabody Award.
As part of the award ceremony, several actresses that were/are inspired by Tyson’s work, including Oprah Winfrey and Viola Davis, honored her in a video tribute. She was thanked for creating a lane for black women that wasn’t always there for them in the entertainment industry.
“Cicely Tyson, throughout your incomparable career, you’ve chosen to bring to life women of hope, determination, grit, and grace because that is who you are,” Oprah Winfrey said. “Your integrity is impeccable.”
She added:
“So, I thank you for not just paving the way for me and every other black woman who dared to have a career in entertainment but being the way.”
Viola Davis, who worked with Tyson on the TV series Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder, also spoke about how Tyson has influenced her career.
“You have made it possible for girls like me, even girls who are not girls of color, but especially black girls, you’ve allowed us to be seen, and you’ve allowed us to feel worthy,” Davis told Tyson.
In 2013, Tyson received her first Tony Award for her role as Carrie Watts in the play The Trip to Bountiful. Five years later, the incomparable actress would go on to receive an Honorary Oscar for her amazing works, making her the first black woman in history to achieve such honor.
“I don’t know that I would cherish a better gift,” Tyson said during her acceptance speech. “This is the culmination of all those years of haves and have not.”
On Wednesday (June 10), the Peabody 30, including Institutional Winners, will be announced.
Issa Rae Asks ‘What the F*ck Is This?’ to Donald Trump Liking ‘Insecure’ Tweet!
Is Donald Trump a secret fan of Issa Rae’s acclaimed HBO comedy series “Insecure”? It’s a question the world is asking after it was discovered that the President of the United States’ only “liked” post on Twitter is one about Rae’s series. Trump’s account liked a June 7 post about the penultimate episode of “Insecure” Season 4. The episode ended with an explosive confrontation between main characters Issa and Molly (Yvonne Orji). Trump’s “liked” tweet was a gif from “The Color Purple” that was used to express disappointment in Issa and Molly’s friendship dissolving.
Rae noticed Trump liked a tweet about “Insecure” and responded with a baffling question: “What the fuck is this?” Rae’s “The Lovebirds” co-star Kumail Nanjiani reacted by writing, “Well I found one thing I have in common with him: we’re both big fans of Issa Rae.” That’s when Rae responded to Nanjiani with a gif of “Shh, don’t.” IndieWire has reached out to Rae for further comment.

“Insecure” is set to air its Season 4 finale this Sunday, June 14. HBO announced earlier this year the series would be returning for a fifth season. Rae co-created the series with Larry Wilmore and serves as an executive producer on the show alongside Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, and Michael Rotenberg, among others. The show started its run inspired by Rae’s popular web series “Awkward Black Girl.”
“We’re thrilled that Issa, Prentice, and the whole ‘Insecure’ team will be getting back together for a fifth season,” vice president of HBO Programming Amy Gravitt said in a statement while announcing the Season 5 renewal. “As we laugh and cringe with recognition, their stories make us all feel a little less alone in the world.”
As for Trump, it’s not known whether or not the “Insecure” favorited tweet was intentional or a mistake. The president has never singled out Rae’s series as one of his favorites prior to the liked tweet. “Insecure” remains one of the year’s most well-reviewed shows with a 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes for its fourth season.
Bon Appetit Editor-in-Chief Adam Rapoport Resigns After Backlash Over Treatment of People of Color!
Adam Rapoport, after nearly 10 years at the editorial helm of Bon Appetit magazine, has resigned after controversy erupted over the editor-in-chief’s treatment of staff members of color and his insensitivity to racial issues — including an old photo of him in brown face.
Rapoport posted news of his resignation from the Condé Nast food publication on Instagram.
“I am stepping down as editor in chief of Bon Appetit to reflect on the work I need to do as a human being and to allow Bon Appetit to get to a better place,” he wrote.
Rapoport said he had “blind spots as an editor,” writing, “I’ve not championed an inclusive vision.”
His exit comes after Rapoport was criticized on social media over Bon Appetit’s practices, including an allegation by Sohla El-Waylly, a chef and restaurateur whom Bon Appetit hired last year as an assistant editor, that the magazine pays white editors to appear in videos but not people of color. (Condé Nast has denied that charge.)
In his Instagram post, Rapoport referred to a photo posted Monday on social media showing him in brown face. Rapoport said that was an “ill-conceived Halloween costume 16 years ago.”
In addition to El-Waylly, other Bon Appetit editors — including Molly Baz and Carla Lalli Music — on Monday called for Rapoport to step down.
“The [Bon Appetit] staff has been working hard to evolve the brand in a positive, more diverse direction,” Rapoport wrote. “I will do all I can to support that work, but I am not the to lead that work. I am deeply sorry for my failings and to the position in which I put the editors of BA.”
Condé Nast did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Rapoport’s resignation.
Separately, on Monday Refinery29 global EIC Christene Barberich announced she was stepping down from the role after charges of R29’s lack of racial diversity and allegations of racial discrimination by former staffers.
Prior to being named EIC of Bon Appetit in 2010, Rapoport was style editor at GQ, another Condé Nast publication. Before joining GQ in 2000, he was restaurant editor for Time Out New York and an editor and writer at the James Beard Foundation’s Publications Office.
Kamala Harris Schools Meghan McCain on ‘Defund the Police’!
Meghan McCain asked Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) what she may have thought was going to be a “gotcha” question Monday morning on The View. Harris wasn’t having it.
“Many activists right now are calling for a defunding of the police,” McCain said when it was her turn to question the senator, citing the Minneapolis City Council vote that would go even further in dismantling that city’s police department. “I want to know from you, do you support defunding and removing the police from American communities, and if not, why do you think there is such a hard time being differentiated right now between defunding and reforming police departments?”
“So Meghan, I think that a big part of this conversation really is about reimagining how we do public safety in America,” Harris began. “We have confused the idea that to achieve safety, you put more cops on the street instead of understanding to achieve safe and healthy communities, you put more resources into the public education system of those communities, into affordable housing, into home ownership, into access to capital for small businesses, access to health care regardless of how much money people have. That's how you achieve safe and healthy communities.”
The senator went on to explain that “in many cities in America, over one-third of their city budget goes to police.” She asked, “What about the money going to social services? What about the money going to helping people with job training? What about helping with mental health issues that communities are being plagued with, for which we’re putting no resources?”
“Senator, I hear you loud and clear, and I don’t think there's any rational American right now that doesn’t think we need to take a cold, hard look at reforming our police,” McCain replied. But she still wanted a yes or no answer on one question: “Are you for defunding the police?”
“How are you defining ‘defund the police?’” Harris shot back.
“Well, I’m not for anything remotely for that,” McCain replied, seeming to jumble her words a bit. “I assume, and again, this is something that is new to me, I assume it’s removing police.” She went on to quote her nemesis Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and repeated a talking point about how it would be a “privilege” to call the police if someone broke into her home.
After Harris once again explained that “defund the police” means a reimagining of “how we are achieving public safety in America,” Sunny Hostin was forced to jump in to make it even simpler for her co-host.
“Just to add to the conversation, defunding the police doesn’t mean abolishing the police,” Hostin said plainly. “It means taking some of those funds that are typically one-third of the budget of a city and giving some of those funds to services like education and mental health resources.”
Hostin then moved on to one more yes-or-no question for Senator Harris: “Given the current climate,” should Joe Biden commit to picking a black female running mate?
“It’s not that simple,” Harris, who is considered a frontrunner for that position, replied. “I just want him to win. He has to win.”
Man Who Drove His Truck Into Protestors In Virginia Is A KKK Leader!
The Hanover County man who drove his truck into a crowd of protestors in Virginia is a leader of the Ku Klux Klan.
Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor said Monday that Harry H. Rogers, 36, “is an admitted leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a propagandist for Confederate ideology.
Rogers was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding, felony vandalism, and assault and battery. He is being held without bond, according to Richmond Times-Dispatch.
On Sunday, Rogers drove down Lakeside Avenue on the median and up to protesters, then revved his engine and plowed through the crowd. One person was injured.
