Janelle Monáe for Variety - Power of Women Issue 2020!
Since coming out as pansexual, Janelle Monáe has been ‘honored’ to ‘fight the good fight’ for the LGBTQIA+ community – and that includes portraying an interracial queer relationship on Amazon’s ‘Homecoming.’
“To have a Black woman and an Asian woman in a relationship on TV is the type of representation that we need,” Janelle Monáe says when discussing her role on Homecoming in Variety’s 2020 Power of Women Issue. On the Amazon psychological thriller, Janelle portrays a character who’s in a romantic relationship with Hong Chau’s character Audrey. Though the “Tightrope” singer said that Homecoming’s themes of privileging “greed and capitalism over the well-being of humanity and humans” are “even more relevant” now, it was this chance to bring visibility to the LGBTQIA+ community that really drew her to the role.

“Being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community is an honor,” Janelle, 34, tells Variety. “Us being aligned is important and powerful, in the face of those in the position of power who aim to divide and [in the face of] those in the position of power who are abusing their power and trying to take away certain rights for those of us who just want to love and live and be able to breathe in peace. I think that, even in spite of all that, we’re persevering together. We realize that we’re in this together, and it’s going to take all of us to set aside our differences and just love on each other, even more, and fight the good fight together.”

Janelle came out as pansexual in a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, right as she was dropped her critically-acclaimed Dirty Computer album. “Being a queer black woman in America,” she said, “someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf-cker.” Though she initially identified as bisexual, she added that she later “read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.”
“It’s a celebratory song,” she told The Guardian in 2018 when talking “Make Me Feel,” off of Dirty Computer. “I hope that comes across. That people feel more free, no matter where they are in their lives, that they feel celebrated. Because I’m about women’s empowerment. I’m about agency. I’m about being in control of your narrative and your body. That was personal for me to even talk about: to let people know you don’t own or control me, and you will not use my image to defame or denounce other women.”

“I want young girls, young boys, nonbinary, gay, straight, queer people who are having a hard time dealing with their sexuality, dealing with feeling ostracized or bullied for just being their unique selves, to know that I see you,” she said Rolling Stone. “This album is for you. Be proud.”

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Calls Attention to Stassi Schroeder’s Old ‘Nazi Chic’ Photo!
Stassi Schroeder’s past continues to make headlines. Porsha Williams reposted to a newly resurfaced photo of the Vanderpump Rules star describing her look as “Nazi chic.”
“WTH,” the 38-year-old Real Housewives of Atlanta star wrote alongside a screenshot of the old Instagram Story.

Schroeder, 31, first came under fire for the caption in January 2018. At the time, she responded to the controversy by sharing a meme of a man trying to dodge lasers with the caption, “Me trying to make a joke that won’t offend anyone in 2017.”
More recently, the Next Level Basic author’s former costar Faith Stowers called her and Kristen Doute out for comments they made after Stowers, 31, was caught having an affair with Jax Taylor during season 5 of the reality show. During an Instagram Live with Floribama Shore’s Candace Rice earlier this month, Stower recalled Schroeder and Doute, 37, telling the cops to investigate her for a 2018 robbery.

“There was this article on Daily Mail where there was an African American lady,” Stowers explained. “I guess this woman was robbing people. And they called the cops and said it was me. This is like, a true story. I heard this from actually Stassi during an interview. It was just funny because they thought it was me because it was a black woman with a weave. So they just assumed it would be me, and they called the cops on me.”
Schroeder, who lost brand deals and her PR representation after Stowers’ Live, apologized on Sunday, June 7, via Instagram.

“Racially insensitive comments from my past have resurfaced. It is important that I continue to take accountability for what I have said and done, while pushing myself to do better. I have grown significantly from the person I was then, and I am still filled with remorse and regret for the hurt I caused,” the “Straight Up With Stassi” podcast host said. “I am grateful for the people in my life that continue to check me and push me to evolve into a more educated person.”
While a source confirmed to Us Weekly that she didn’t reach out to Stowers privately before her Instagram post went live, Schroeder did address the Challenge alum in her statement.

“My emotions over something that happened between our friends outweighed my logic, and there is no excuse for that,” Schroeder wrote. “I did not recognize then the serious ramifications that could have transpired because of my actions. What I did to Faith was wrong. I apologize and I do not expect forgiveness. I am also sorry to anyone else that feels disappointed in me. I am going to continue to look closer at myself and my actions – to take the time to listen, to learn, and to take accountability for my own privilege.”

Moments before Schroeder published her statement, Doute shared her own apology.
“I’ve been taking some time to really process what I’ve been seeing, feeling and learning. And I need to address something specifically that happened a few years ago with my former castmate, Faith Stowers,” the He’s Making You Crazy author wrote on Sunday. “Although, my actions were not racially driven, I am now completely aware of how my privilege blinded me from the reality of law enforcement’s treatment of the black community, and how dangerous my actions could have been to her. It was never my intention to add to the injustice and imbalance. I’m ashamed, embarrassed, and incredibly sorry. I will do better. I have to do better.”

‘Cops’ And LIVE PD Has been Pulled From Paramount Network and A&E!
The Paramount Network has officially pulled the plug on ‘Cops’ amid the uproar and protests against the recent cases of police brutality happening in the country. A spokesperson from the Paramount Network released a statement stating,
“Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return”
Paramount Network acquired the show from SpikeTv in 2013 after Fox ended the show after 25 seasons. When SpikeTV rebranded into the Paramount Network, they began showing reruns and new episodes of the show.

Old episodes of ‘Cops’ can still be seen on WGN America and the streaming service owned by Viacom, Pluto TV. According to sources of the Hollywood Reporter, WGN America’s contract with ‘Cops’ expires at the end of June but the network does not have any plans on renewing the contract. Pluto TV actively shows ‘Cops’.

The 33rd season of the show was scheduled to premiere on Monday June 8, but no episode has aired on Paramount Network since June 1, when protests against police brutality and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement proceeded across the country.
‘Cops’ originally premiered on Fox in 1989 and has come under fire in recent years for its depiction of law enforcement and the questionable practices behind the scenes.
‘Cops’ was the subject of a podcast hosted by Dan Taberski, called “Running from Cops”. The podcast chronicled hundreds of episodes of the show. Dan Taberski and his team detailed multiple instances where people allegedly were coerced into signing waivers and how production allegedly allowed the police to edit and remove anything that might paint them in a bad light.

Another law enforcement themed show is being pulled from the air amid the nationwide protests condemning police brutality. ‘Live PD’ which shows on A&E, follows cops and sheriffs — live, in real time, as they patrol various cities and counties across the country. ‘Live PD’ has been pulled from A&E and is currently being evaluated by the network in terms of the future of the show. In a statement to USA Today, a representative from the network stated,

“Out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives, in consultation with the departments we follow, and in consideration for the safety of all involved, we have made the decision not to broadcast ‘Live PD’ this weekend.”

MTV Fires ‘The Challenge’ Cast Member Dee Nguyen Over Black Lives Matter Comments!
MTV has cut ties with “The Challenge” competitor Dee Nguyen after comments she made about the Black Lives Matter movement drew criticism from both the show’s fans and her fellow cast members.
“As a result of Dee Nguyen’s offensive comments on the Black Lives Matter movement, we have severed ties with her,” read a statement on the show’s official Twitter account. “Out of respect for our Challengers, we’ll air our season as planned. We strongly condemn systemic racism and stand with those raising their voices against injustice.”
The account also linked to a list of resources for combating racism. “We stand united against racism and urge you to join us in taking action to end racism, discrimination, and systemic violence,” the statement said.
Nguyen came under fire over the weekend for multiple since-deleted social media posts referencing the anti-racism movement and the recent upswell of Black Lives Matter protests.
According to Jezebel, the comments came when Nguyen was criticized by an Instagram commenter for participating in the “Black Out Tuesday” trend, which critics said did little to support the actual activist movement that has captured the nation’s attention. “Wake up! People are dying,” read the comment, to which Nguyen replied: “People die every f—ing day.”
Nguyen later took the matter to Twitter with a tweet that read, “IDK why some of you think I’m anti-BLM. I’ve been saying that since the day I lost my virginity.”
Nguyen’s fellow “Challenge” cast members were some of the most vocal in responding to her comments. Black competitors Bayleigh Dayton and Swaggy C. were among those who spoke out on Twitter, with Dayton saying she was “disgusted and disappointed” by the remarks. Swaggy accused Nguyen of using the Black Lives Matter movement “for clout.”

In addition to appearing on the current season of “The Challenge,” Nguyen was also part of fellow “Challenge” star Wes Bergmann’s Patreon series “Friends and Benefits.” In a tweet, Bergmann said he had also cut ties with Nguyen.
Nguyen apologized for the comments in a statement shared on both Twitter and Instagram on Monday.

“The last 24hrs have made me realised what is important and that is forgiveness,” she wrote. “I would like to offer my sincerest apology to my colleagues to whom I have hurt directly and indirectly due to my insensitive remarks. Let me be clear I am a POC that cares about BLM. I believe in this movement and I’m stepping away from social media to focus on my wellbeing and mental health. This is not a goodbye, it’s a I will see you again.”

Nguyen is an alum of the U.K.’s “Geordie Shore” who began appearing on “The Challenge” in 2019.

The Funeral for George Floyd caps days of protest: 'He's going to change the world'!
Hundreds of mourners filed into the Fountain of Praise Church in Houston on Tuesday to pay their final respects to George Floyd, a black man whose killing by Minneapolis police sparked protests around the world and calls to end systemic racism in America.
Delivering Floyd’s eulogy, the Rev. Al Sharpton distilled the outrage, mourning and hunger for change felt by the black community in the wake of Floyd’s death.

“If four black cops had done to one white what was done to George, they wouldn’t have to teach new lessons,” Sharpton said. “They would send them to jail.”
Sharpton promised the Floyd family that his network of activists is in it for the long haul.
“When the last TV truck is gone we will still be here,” he said.
Among those in attendance were Benjamin Crump, the Floyd family’s attorney; boxer Floyd Mayweather, who paid for Floyd’s gold casket; Houston Texans star J.J. Watt; Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green; rappers Slim Thug and Paul Wall; R&B singer Leela James; actors Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum; and relatives of Ahmaud Arbery, Botham Jean, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Eric Garner — unarmed black men who were killed by white assailants in high-profile cases.

“We are not here because we are conservative or liberal,” Green, a Democrat who represents Texas's Ninth Congressional District, said, speaking through a mask emblazoned with the phrase “I can't breathe,” which Floyd said as he lay gasping for air, his neck pinned beneath white officer Derek Chauvin’s knee on May 25.
“George Floyd was not expendable,” Green said. “This is why we’re here. His crime was that he was born black.”

Lee, a Democrat who represents Texas’s 18th Congressional District, delivered an impassioned speech that at times brought the audience to its feet.
“I want to acknowledge those young marchers in the streets. Many of them could not be in this place,” she said. “They are black and brown, they are Asian, they are white. They are protesting and marching, and I’m saying as a momma, I hear your cry.”

Floyd, Lee told the mourners, had been sent to earth on “an assignment,” to help shine a light on police brutality.
“There are people rising up who will never sit down until you get justice,” she said.
Inside the sanctuary, large posters with Floyd's suddenly familiar image painted on them served as a backdrop.
“Everybody knows who Big Floyd is now,” said Philonise Floyd, George’s younger brother. “He’s going to change the world.”
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said the city’s attorney is drafting an executive order that will ban chokeholds and strangleholds and require deescalation, among other police reforms in honor of Floyd.
“We honor him not because he was perfect,” Turner said. “We honor him today because when he took his last breath, the rest of us will now be able to breathe.”
Sharpton took a swipe at U.S. Attorney General William Barr while thanking Crump, the Floyd family’s attorney.
“I call him ‘black America’s attorney general,’” Sharpton said of Crump, “probably because we feel we don’t have one.”
Sharpton also weighed in on the controversy over the National Football League’s response to national anthem protests initiated by quarterback Colin Kaepernick. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said this week that the league had made a mistake in not fully supporting its players’ rights to peacefully protest.
“Don’t apologize, give Colin Kaepernick a job back,” Sharpton said. “We don’t want an apology, we want him repaired.”

As he did at the first public memorial for Floyd, in Minneapolis on Friday, Sharpton took aim at President Trump for his Bible photo op after police used pepper spray on peaceful protesters outside the White House. (To Sharpton, it was another example of “wickedness in high places.”)
Former Vice President Joe Biden, who traveled to Houston on Monday to privately meet with Floyd’s family, did not attend Tuesday’s funeral because he did not want his Secret Service detail to disrupt the event. Instead, he recorded a video message that was played at the service.

“To George’s family and friends, Jill and I know the deep hole in your hearts when you bury a piece of your soul deep in this earth,” Biden said. “As I have said to you privately, we know you will never feel the same again.
“For most people, the numbness you feel now will slowly turn, day after day, season after season, into purpose through the memory of the one they lost,” he continued. “But for you, that day has come before you can fully grieve. And unlike most, you must grieve in public. It is a burden — a burden that is now your purpose to change the world for the better in honor of George Floyd.”
The private service, which was carried live on television and online, was the fourth memorial in four days for Floyd. Video of the incident drew near-universal outrage.

Earlier Tuesday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called on Minnesotans to hold a moment of silence in honor of Floyd for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time Chauvin held him pinned on the ground.
After the service, Houston police are expected to escort Floyd’s body to the Houston Memorial Gardens in nearby Pearland, Texas, for his burial.

For the last mile of the procession, his casket will be taken by horse-drawn carriage. At the cemetery, Floyd will be laid to rest next to his mother, Larcenia.

Anna Wintour Admits to 'Hurtful, Intolerant' Mistakes at 'Vogue'!
Anna Wintour is opening up amid global protests against police brutality and systemic racism in the wake of George Floyd‘s murder.
The 70-year-old editor-in-chief of Vogue spoke to her staff about her behavior in a note, via Page Six on Tuesday (June 9).
The note was sent out last Thursday (June 4), according to the outlet.
“I want to start by acknowledging your feelings and expressing my empathy towards what so many of you are going through: sadness, hurt, and anger too. I want to say this especially to the Black members of our team — I can only imagine what these days have been like. But I also know that the hurt, and violence, and injustice we’re seeing and talking about have been around for a long time. Recognizing it and doing something about it is overdue,” she wrote.

“I want to say plainly that I know Vogue has not found enough ways to elevate and give space to Black editors, writers, photographers, designers and other creators. We have made mistakes too, publishing images or stories that have been hurtful or intolerant. I take full responsibility for those mistakes,” she continued.
“It can’t be easy to be a Black employee at Vogue, and there are too few of you. I know that it is not enough to say we will do better, but we will — and please know that I value your voices and responses as we move forward. I am listening and would like to hear your feedback and your advice if you would like to share either,” she went on to say.

“I am proud of the content we have published on our site over these past few days but I also know that there is much more work to do. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with me directly. I am arranging ways we can discuss these issues together candidly, but in the meantime, I welcome your thoughts or reactions.”

‘Vanderpump Rules’ Fires Stassi Schroeder And Kristen Doute After Racially Insensitive Actions!
Multiple stars of “Vanderpump Rules," including original cast members Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute, have been fired amid controversies involving racially insensitive activity.
“Bravo and Evolution Media confirmed today that Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni will not be returning to Vanderpump Rules,” Bravo said in a statement.
Former cast member Faith Stowers last week accused Schroeder and Doute of reporting her to the police in 2018 for a crime she didn’t commit. They called the cops after reading an article about an African-American woman accused of theft, Stowers said.

“It was a weird photo, so she looked very light-skinned and had these different, weird tattoos,” Stowers said on Instagram Live. “They showcased her, and I guess this woman was robbing people. ... They called the cops and said it was me. This is like, a true story. I heard this from actually Stassi during an interview.”

Both Schroeder, 31, and Doute, 37, have since issued apologies.
“My emotions over something that happened between our friends outweighed my logic, and there is no excuse for that,” Schroeder said in an Instagram statement. “I did not realize the serious ramifications that could have transpired because of my actions.”
Doute said on Twitter: "Although my actions were not racially driven, I am now completely aware of how my privilege blinded me from the reality of law enforcement’s treatment of the black community, and how dangerous my actions could have been to her. "

Racially offensive tweets shared by Boyens and Caprioni years earlier resurfaced in January. Both joined the cast of “Vanderpump Rules” for the eighth season, which premiered in January.

The series debuted in 2013.

Republic Records Announces They Will No Longer Use the Term “Urban”!
Republic Records has decided to ban the use of the term “urban” within the label’s verbiage. The music label shared the news in a statement shared on Instagram.
“Effective immediately, Republic Records will remove ‘URBAN’ from our verbiage in describing departments, employee titles, and music genres,” the label announced.” We encourage the rest of the music industry to follow suit as it is important to shape the future of what we want it to look like, and not adhere to the outdated structures of the past.” The label represents major talent like Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift.
Republic’s announcement followed a day after music executive Lucas Keller, who shared that his entertainment management company, Milk & Honey, would eliminate the use of the term.
The use of “urban” began in the mid-70s and, over the years, has evolved into a way for industry execs to marginalize black artists by lumping them into one generalized category, according to Billboard.

” Change starts at home. Therefore, we, here at Milk & Honey, have decided to formally ELIMINATE the term ‘urban’ at our company,” his statement read. “We will no longer be using the term, as we believe it’s an important step forwards, and an outdated word, which has no place in 2020 onwards,” Keller said.

Cardi B shows off her natural hair and favorite DIY mask!
On Monday, the “I Like It” hitmaker, 27, took to Instagram to show off her natural texture, along with a simple DIY hair mask she uses on both herself and her daughter Kulture.
The ingredients? Avocado, argan oil, mayonnaise, black castor oil, olive oil, eggs, honey and bananas, all whipped up in a blender until smooth and creamy.

“Okay guys, so this is really how my hair is,” a makeup-free, bikini-clad Cardi explained in one clip.
“My hair gets like this when you blow dry it; then two days later, it just gets puffed up like this. Even when you braid it.”
Continued Cardi, “My daughter’s hair is curly — she’s got curls and little coils. But my s—t just don’t get curly at all, it’s just straight like this. But I still need moisture! All the good things that you put in your body, you’ve got to put in your hair.”
After applying the DIY treatment, Cardi returned to show off her “nice and shiny!” locks.
“The end results of all that s—t I put on my hair earlier,” she captioned a photo posted to her feed. “Treat your hair ladies.”

Daniel Radcliffe Defends Trans Rights After J.K. Rowling’s Anti-Trans Tweets: ‘Transgender Women Are Women’!
Actor Daniel Radcliffe is speaking out in defense of transgender rights after ‘Harry Potter’ author J.K. Rowling sent some controversial anti-trans tweets out into the Twitterverse over the weekend.
“Transgender women are women,” Radcliffe wrote in his essay for The Trevor Project. “Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”
Radcliffe acknowledged that Rowling was instrumental in his acting career and that this may appear as “in-fighting,” but that he felt “compelled” to speak out about the tweets in defense of the transgender community. Radcliffe cited the statistic that 78 percent of transgender or nonbinary youth experience discrimination due to their gender identity.

Rowling started tweeting on Saturday in response to an article headline that mentioned that “people menstruate.” Rowling retweeted the article, posted by devex.com, with the comment “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” and the backlash happened almost immediately, causing Rowling to tweet further.

“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased,” Rowling followed up. “I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.”
Some of Rowling’s diehard ‘Harry Potter’ fans expressed their disappointment in the comments, and Radcliffe addressed those who may have been let down the tweets.

“To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you. I really hope that you don’t entirely lose what was valuable in these stories to you.” Radcliffe addressed in his essay. “If these books taught you that love is the strongest force in the universe, capable of overcoming anything; if they taught you that strength is found in diversity, and that dogmatic ideas of pureness lead to the oppression of vulnerable groups; if you believe that a particular character is trans, nonbinary, or gender fluid, or that they are gay or bisexual; if you found anything in these stories that resonated with you and helped you at any time in your life — then that is between you and the book that you read, and it is sacred. And in my opinion, nobody can touch that.”

Twitter Reacts After B. Simone Says She Wouldn’t Date a Man Who Works a 9 to 5!
During a recent interview on Close Conversations w/ Nick Cannon show, influencer and entrepreneur B. Simone revealed that she was not interested in dating a man who works a 9 to 5 job, but rather a man who was a “hustling entrepreneur,” citing that “entrepreneurs should date entrepreneurs.”
“You’re not going to understand my lifestyle. You’re not going to understand why I’m up at 3 a.m.” Simone says.
Needless to say, this did not go over well with Twitter, where users proceeded to drag the newly established millionaire. This is the second time in just a week that Simone has been the subject of social media scrutiny.
Last week, Twitter declared her to be cancelled after she insinuated that she was not participating in Black Lives Matter protests due to her religious beliefs, saying that “I’m going to ask myself WWJD not what would an angry black woman do! I am angry, but I am also trying to be Godly.”
