Halima Aden for Essence - January/ February 2020!
Model Halima Aden is the first black woman to appear on the cover of Essence magazine wearing a hijab.
Aden said in a tweet Monday that she is thankful for the distinction. The tweet was accompanied by an image of the magazine's January/February 2020 cover.
"A huge thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly on this historic 50th anniversary cover," Aden said.

The Somali American model also said the cover is the first she will appear on in 2020.
A spokeswoman for Essence described Aden, who was born in Kenya and moved to the United States when she was seven years old, as a "beauty disruptor" in a statement to NBC News. Aden could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.
"As we get ready to step into a whole new decade, Essence continues to break the mold," the spokeswoman said. The upcoming issue is "just a taste of how Essence is celebrating every black woman in 2020."
Essence shared a first look of its January/February 2020 cover and a statement about Aden on its website.
"There have been several moments in model Halima Aden’s life when she’s broken a barrier by simply being who she is," the statement said. "The model and activist was the first Muslim homecoming queen at her high school; the first Somali student senator at her college; and the first hijab-wearing woman to be the face of numerous fashion magazine covers, including Allure and British Vogue."

Aden, 22, made history earlier this year as the first woman to appear in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue wearing a burkini, a full-body swimsuit worn by some observant Muslim women.
In 2016, Aden became the first contestant to wear a hijab and a burkini while competing in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant, in which she was a semi-finalist.
She told journalist Jeannine Amber, who wrote the Essence cover story: “It’s important for me to be visible and to do whatever I can to let girls know that they don’t have to change who they are."
“I want them to know the world will meet them exactly where they stand," Aden said
#RHOA: Porsha Williams Dishes on Daughter Pilar's First Holiday Season!
'Tis the season to snuggle up in bed or on the couch with your favorite holiday movie, try a new recipe in the kitchen and continue new and old traditions—and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha is ready to ring in the holidays in full force.
After all, this season is a special one for the reality TV star as it marks the first holiday she spends with her baby girl.
As fans may recall, the star gave birth to her little one earlier this year in March. It's both her and her fiancΓ©'s Dennis McKinley's first child together.
Ahead of the holidays, Porsha spoke about her favorite holiday recipes, the one gift that never disappoints (spoiler alert: money!) and the holiday traditions she hopes to pass down and experience with her daughter.
When talking about her favorite holiday tradition, Porsha said that it definitely has to be the time she and her mom spend together cooking.
"Mom and I always team up to cook a feast for whoever in our family wants to show up," Porsha says! News. "It's an open invitation in our house."
That's no surprise considering her favorite thing about the holidays is the "spirit of giving." The RHOA star also says that a typical holiday is spent "at our family's charity of almost 50 years, Hosea Feed the Hungry and the rest of the day is spent with family and loved ones."
In terms of how she wants to ring in the new year and decade, Porsha said she wants to be surrounded by all her friends and family this New Year's Eve.
She adds: "It's also Pilar's first NYE so we are really excited to share that with her."
#Empire: Season 6 episode 11 return date for Terrence Howard, cast!
Curious to learn the Empire season 6 episode 11 return date over at Fox, or some other expectations on what could be coming? Then consider this article your source!
The unfortunate news, though (and you’re probably aware of this already), is that you’re going to be waiting for a good while to see what’s next. Ever since Empire season 2, Fox has sent the Taraji P. Henson – Terrence Howard series on some enormous hiatuses, ones that often last a few months at a time. We’re going to see this show off until probably mid-March, at the earliest, and that is when it will come back with the final run of episodes. There are going to be more details available eventually on the series’ future, but for the time being, the folks over at Fox are clearly more than okay with making us wait for them.
As for some of what is coming up when the show returns, the obvious top priority will be sorting out who is alive/dead, given all of the teases that we’ve got on that subject already. There’s also the fate of Empire as a company, the careers of people like Hakeem and Tiana, and then also the lingering question of whether or not Jussie Smollett will return. That’s not something that we were seriously entertaining going into the season, but the reports that are out there definitely do have us starting to pause a little and think about it.
More so than anything, we just hope that the end of Empire does prove to be a celebration of what the show does best — intense writing, intriguing drama, and a series of big twists that find a way to almost-constantly keep people guessing. Of course, we also need plenty of music — that is, after all, a big part of the series’ final legacy!

#HipHopNews: Dababy Detained For Weed Possession, Resisting Arrest!
DaBaby was detained in North Carolina on Monday. According to The Associated Press, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued citations to the Grammy-nominated rapper, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resisting an officer.
The “Suge” hitmaker says officers unlawfully searched his car following his hometown show at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte. He left the venue and got in his car when, according to him, 15 cops swarmed his vehicle in the parking lot, searched it, and found weed. He was handcuffed and cited before being released, but was not arrested.
DaBaby says he was wrongfully targeted after cops received a “bogus” tip that he had drugs and guns. He took to Instagram Live after his release, showing his ID wristband and jewelry in plastic bags. He says he was “illegally searched” and “illegally arrested.”
While speaking to reporters, he denied that he resisted arrest and says he has the footage to prove it. “What we got is high quality audio and video of me doing everything but resisting arrest,” said DaBaby. “Ya’ll will see how dirty the CMP police department just did me on the holidays in front of my daughter when I was putting on a show for my city.”
He claims officers target him every time he comes to Charlotte. “Dirty ass police department try to take me to jail every time I got a show in the city,” he wrote on Instagram. “Unlawfully shining multiple flash lights in my car looking for reasons to support an illegal search by the time I get off stage.”
Just hours earlier, DaBaby hosted his “Kirk Pole” holiday giveaway with local radio station Power 98 WPEG, where he donated 200 toys to underprivileged children in Charlotte.

Mariah Carey Sued By Former Nanny, Seeking Pay Day For “Emotional Distress” & Past Dues Wages!
Nothing says, “Merry Christmas,” for the Queen of Christmas like a lawsuit! According to reports, Billboard icon Mariah Carey was sued on yesterday (12/23/19) by her children’s former nanny, Maria Burgues.
Maria reportedly claims that she was fired in April of 2018 after complaining about short checks, poor working conditions, and verbal abuse at the hands of Monroe and Moroccan Cannon‘s bodyguard, Marcio Moto. The suit states that Maria was only paid $25 per hour to babysit “dem babies,” as Mariah calls them, and was not paid at all for traveling on tour with the crew.
Maria Burgues detailed two alleged incidents in which she says she was verbally abused by the kids’ bodyguard. She says that in December of 2017, he threatened to leave her stranded on the side of the road while on a road trip to Las Vegas, and that he yelled at her in front of the children’s entire dance class. She was, allegedly, fired soon after complaining.
The former nanny is seeking the backpay in which she noted that she was inadequately paid, and compensation for “severe emotional distress.” Maria Burgues’ lawsuit only adds to the others piled under Mariah’s Christmas tree. The other suits still be deliberated are from her former assistant and ex-manager – Lianna Shakhnazaryan and Stella Bulochnikov – with allegations of abuse of power, sexual harassment, and extortion. Mariah’s former housekeeper, Maria Salazar – like Burgues – also alleges that she wasn’t adequately paid.
Mariah Carey’s attorney claims he had not yet seen the suit.
Kevin Spacey Posts Bizarre New Video as Frank Underwood!
Kevin Spacey has once again released a video marking the Christmas holiday as his "House of Cards" character, Frank Underwood in a video posted to his YouTube page Tuesday afternoon.
“You didn’t really think I was going to miss the opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas, did you?” Spacey asks the audience in the one minute video as his "House of Cards" character, Frank Underwood. "It’s been a pretty good year, and I’m grateful to have my health back. And in light of that, I’ve made some changes in my life and I’d like to invite you to join me.”
Spacey's character was killed off in the final season following accusations of sexual misconduct. Those allegations also saw director Ridley Scott pull Spacey out of his 2017 film, "All the Money in the World" and reshot the actor's scenes with Christopher Plummer.
"As we walk into 2020, I want to cast my vote for more good in this world," Spacey says. "Ah yes, I know what you’re thinking. Can he be serious? I’m dead serious. And it’s not that hard, trust me. The next time someone does something you don’t like, you can go on the attack. But you can also hold your fire and do the unexpected. You can kill them with kindness."
WATCH
The video is a rare public appearance for the actor, who was sued last year for sexual battery by a massuer who alleged the "House of Cards" actor groped him while he was giving Spacey a massage in 2016. The plaintiff in the case died in September, but the therapist's estate has continued to pursue the lawsuit against Spacey.
Spacey posted a similar video last year in which he appeared to address the allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
"Of course, some believed everything and have just been waiting with bated breath to hear me confess at all," the actor said as Underwood. "They’re just dying to have me declare everything said is true and I got what I deserved. Wouldn’t that be easy? If it was all so simple."

Terry Gilliam tears into 'Black Panther', calling Marvel movie's message 'bulls**t'!
Terry Gilliam has torn into Black Panther, saying he hated the movie, slating its message of positivity and questioning whether the filmmakers even went to Africa.
The director and former Monty Python member took the Marvel movie to task in an interview with Indiewire, saying that watching it 'made my blood boil'.
“I hated Black Panther. It makes me crazy,” he said.
“It gives young black kids the idea that this is something to believe in. Bullsh*t. It’s utter bullsh*t. I think the people who made it have never been to Africa.
“They went and got some stylist for some African pattern fabrics and things. But I just I hated that movie, partly because the media were going on about the importance of bullshit.”
Ryan Coogler’s movie, which found Chadwick Boseman as the prince - and then king - of the fictional African country of Wakanda, was a smash at the worldwide box office, making $1.3 billion, and landing seven Oscar nominations.
And it's not just that – he hates that big budget movies are now making smaller budget movies almost impossible to make.
“There isn’t room or money for a greater range of films,” he went on. “You make a film for over $150 million or less than $10 [million]. Where’s all this other stuff? It doesn’t exist anymore.
“I make films where I’m trying to make people think. I mean, I try to entertain them enough that they don’t fall asleep on me, and they’re there to make you think and look at the world in a different way, hopefully, and consider possibilities. Those films don’t do that.”
Gilliam joins other directors of an old school persuasion to have taken issue with the pervasive nature of the Marvel movies this year.
ESPN Releases First Look At 10-Part Documentary On The 1998 Chicago Bulls; Set To Showcase The Untold Story Of Michael Jordan And The Bulls!
ESPN has released the first look at a 10-part documentary on the Chicago Bulls.
Originally set for release in 2019, the mini docu-series is titled, ‘The Last Dance,’ and the project will contain interviews with the team’s biggest players. However, it will also feature conversations with former President Barack Obama, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Justin Timberlake, Bob Costas, Patrick Ewing, and Roy Williams and more.
Speaking with NBC, Michael Jordan revealed he’s “still nervous” about how the series will be received.
“I didn’t want to do it, in all honesty,” he said. “I felt like it was raw enough that people would not really understand the mentality that it takes to be a winner, to be a leader. … It’s going to be interesting to see how people interpreted the whole thing. That’s going to be the most intriguing aspect of the whole thing.”

‘The Last Dance’ is a joint production project with Netflix, ABC, and ESPN. It will arrive on ABC and ESPN in June 2020, and be made available on the streaming giant at a later date in 2020, an ESPN spokesperson revealed to Fox Business.
The docu-series will feature over 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from the 1997-1998 season, where the team won its franchise its historic sixth championship in just eight years.

Madonna gets unwanted Christmas gift from ex-husband Guy Ritchie!
Madonna’s ex-hubby Guy Ritchie just gave her a Christmas gift she could do without — a divorce-related Manhattan court filing.
Ritchie filed a motion in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday seeking “the enforcement or execution of a judgement or order” in the pair’s case.
It wasn’t clear what the dispute is over. The Material Baby Boomer and Ritchie — the British director of flicks such as “Sherlock Holmes” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” — divorced in 2008 after eight years of marriage.
But the former couple has two sons — Rocco, 19, and adopted 14-year-old David Banda — who have been the subject of custody battles in the past, and Ritchie has previously described his former marriage to the superstar singer as a “soap opera.”
Madonna, 61, has four other kids, while Ritchie, 50, has three more children with second wife Jacqui Ainsley.
Music icon Madonna has most recently been linked to boy-toy backup dancer Ahlamalik Williams, 25, who is with her on her Madame X world tour.
Neither Madonna’s nor Ritchie’s reps returned The Post’s requests for comment.
