Salma Hayek Pinault On Starring In Like A Boss & Joining The Marvel Universe For The Eternals
Admired for her unflinching ferocity as an actress and as an advocate, Salma Hayek Pinault kicks off the year like a boss.
"Except for Bandidas, it’s really the first time I am doing a film with mainly girls,” Salma Hayek Pinault muses about her new film, Like a Boss. “I’ve worked with some great guys in my lifetime, but—oh, my god—I really enjoy being with the girls.”
In the comedy, out Jan. 10, the actress pairs with leading ladies Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne as their characters’ plans to launch a beauty business quickly go awry and high jinks ensue. “There was a lot of improvising,” Hayek Pinault says, “a lot of collaboration.” The trio owes their charm not only to their impressive comedic chops, but also to a shared eccentricity. “It might not seem like it, but we’re all quirky in a different way,” she adds.
This strong spirit of sisterhood is something that informs so much of Hayek Pinault’s own story arc. The Mexican-born actress bravely transitioned from the small screen in Mexico to Hollywood only to find herself typecast. But, with what is now widely celebrated as her trademark chutzpah and hard work, she founded her own production company, Ventanarosa, in 1999. “The reason I did it is because I always say, if you’re not making an effort to change it yourself, stop complaining. So, when I saw that there were not really a lot of parts for women or for Latin women, I said, ‘OK, I’m gonna try to do it.’ I think it’s important because we need to be represented, and our different voices should be explored in cinema.”
Many consider the petite powerhouse to be the mother of the #MeToo movement, but the earnest truth is Hayek Pinault has been advocating for women’s rights for more than two decades—long before any hashtags were trending. “The #MeToo movement—I didn’t change anything,” she says. “Somehow, what I was already doing fell under this umbrella.” That history, of course, refers to Hayek Pinault’s work with both large nongovernmental organizations and efforts such as her partnership with Avon, which has raised over $90 million to prevent and support victims of domestic violence. “When you go back 25 years ago, I have really seen the progression,” she says. “It’s beautiful to feel the power of all the girls coming aboard.”
For Hayek Pinault, who has been in the trenches fighting for women most of her adult life, the journey is a deeply emotional one. “I feel I am really lucky to be of a generation that got to live through a huge transformation,” she explains. “I understand where we’re coming from, and I fought for it. It was hard. It was heartbreaking. It was devastating. A lot of the time, you felt completely helpless and hopeless, and, now, to be able to see this change… it’s been a fantastic privilege.”
Up next, Hayek Pinault is slated for a blockbuster year thanks to a multitude of projects. In the sequel to runaway box office hit The Hitman’s Bodyguard, the actress takes a leading turn in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard alongside heavyweights Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson. “This time, I have the same amount [of screen time] as the guys,” she joyfully shares. “It was such an amazing departure. … When they do the sequel, not only are you in it, but you’re the lead with some of your heroes.”
Then, in fall, she’ll join the Marvel Universe as Ajak in The Eternals, directed by ChloΓ© Zhao and featuring a star-studded cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan and Kit Harington. “I would be expecting something a little different from this one than what you’re used to,” she says. Keeping with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s notoriously tight-lipped teasers, Hayek Pinault clandestinely shares that her character is the mother of all Eternals—a fictional race of humanoids. “I’m excited to be working with Marvel, but I’m extra-excited that it will be on this completely new franchise—and with an amazing Chinese woman filmmaker. Even her process is different; her sensibility’s different, but it’s still very much a Marvel movie.”
In addition to the Marvel release, Hayek Pinault stars in two independent films: Molly and Bliss, releasing this year. “Bliss has got to be the most unique film I’ve ever done,” she says of the Amazon science-fiction drama co-starring Owen Wilson. “Is she strong? Yes, she’s strong, but she’s strange,” she adds. “I’ve never had so much anticipation and excitement to see a film that I’ve done than this one. It was one of those experiences, playing this character, that really grabbed me. Just the experience of making it alone was kind of nirvana.” And in Molly, Hayek Pinault shares the screen with longtime friend Javier Bardem for the first time in a drama from legendary director and screenwriter Sally Potter. “She’s a woman who is powerful in a different way than I’ve played powerful before. She’s a woman who is going through a very, very, very, very difficult time—the worst time that a woman can go through, and so there’s a lot of sorrow. She has a different kind of strength.”
Somehow, Hayek Pinault manages to balance her megawatt career in addition to her “very supportive” family, which includes her 12-year-old daughter, Valentina; three stepchildren; and husband FranΓ§ois-Henri Pinault, the French billionaire businessman, chairman and CEO of Kering (parent company to Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga and more). As a mother, Hayek Pinault predicts her daughter’s generation will likely face an entirely different set of challenges. “I don’t know that by the time she has to get out there in the world this will be an issue,” she says of the #MeToo movement. “I think this generation is facing other problems that have a lot to do with social media and image.”
When asked how she juggles family life, plus packed production and philanthropic schedules, Hayek Pinault divulges her secret to productivity: “I meditate. When you learn how to do that, well, you don’t need that much time. And,” she adds, “I’m trying to take some time off next year for a special project that is something wild and crazy.”

#HipHopNews: Drake Has A Collaboration With Chris Brown On His New Album!
Drake and Chris Brown turned their beef into a platinum hit. And it looks like they have more music in the works. After ruling the charts with their summer smash “No Guidance,” Drake revealed that he and Breezy have recorded another collaboration that may appear on his forthcoming album.
“He’s also on my album as well,” Drizzy told TIDAL’s “Rap Radar” podcast. “I don’t know what’s gonna make the album yet, but we have done more music together.”
During the interview, he reflected on squashing his beef with the Indigo singer. “We’ve come together before and tried to link and make music. I think we were always kinda forcing it,” he said. “I think there was always resentment on both sides. When you step away from it and break it down, you start to feel silly because it’s over like, girl stuff. Obviously that can snowball into real shit and that’s what happened in this situation.”
He went on to address their mutual relationship with Rihanna. “That person that was in the middle of us is no longer a part of either of our lives currently and I have the most utmost love and respect for her,” said Drake. “I think of her as family more than anything. I felt, I actually had kind of a moment of hesitation before because I didn’t want her to ever feel disrespected by me linking up with him. But I also know how many nights she knows that me and him have both been consumed by this issue. And I think she’s a good person with a good heart that would rather see us put that issue to bed than continue childish shit that could end up in a serious situation.”
The former rivals reunited on stage during Drake’s “Aubrey and the Three Migos Tour” at L.A.’s Staples Center in October 2018. “I think that show when he came out was like one of those best buds moments, like, ‘Man, we missed all these years.’ I just always really had a lot of admiration for his talent and I think finally he gave me the mutual respect and admiration by allowing me to take the lead on the song.”
“No Guidance,” which appears on Chris’ album Indigo, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum. The song also earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song.
“This was just a big moment for me because he let me send him a joint and he just bodied it,” added Drake. “I knew right away when the song was finished. I was like, ‘Oh man, this is crazy.’ Not only did we link back up and have a cool show moment, but we did a record together and it’s serious. It’s not a joke. It’s not some shit that’s just gonna disappear.”

Amanda Bynes' Apparent Face Tattoo Has Fans Thinking She is in Need of Help!
Amanda Bynes appears to have gotten a new face tattoo, and fans are a bit worried.
New Year, new ink? This seems to be the motto for the former Nickelodeon star, who recently debuted what looks to be a heart-shaped tattoo in the middle of cheek the night before New Year’s Eve. The image, captioned with nothing more than an alien emoji, shows the What I Like About You alum wearing a non-expressive look on her face, which seems to have been scrawled with the outline of a black heart just below her left eye.
See Bynes' new heart-shaped face art down below.
Whether the design is real or fake is anybody’s guess, but fans have been expressing their concern over the actress’ seemingly-permanent decision nonetheless. “I love Amanda Bynes, I really hope she didn’t ruin her beautiful face with this tattoo,” one fan tweeted, as another implored, “We must protect Amanda Bynes at all costs.”
“The decade couldn’t be over without Amanda Bynes joining Aaron Carter In getting a face tattoo this year. What did Nickelodeon and Disney do to these kids?” tweeted another user, referring to the now-infamous Medusa tattoo Carter showed off just a few months ago.
Bynes’ new apparent face tatt comes months after the star made her return to social media when she revealed her Instagram account in September. As fans know, going back online was a huge step for the star, who has had a pretty tough past with social media — stemming from her infamous celebrity-targeted tweets to her abrupt retirement at the age of 24. However, with the love and support of fans, Bynes seems to have a much healthier relationship with the platforms these days.
Madonna and 25-year-old Ahlamalik Williams Are Getting Serious, Williams’ Father Says: ”Love Has No Age”!
The relationship between Madonna and her 25-year-old boo Ahlamalik Williams is getting much more serious, according to Williams’ father.
For months, rumors have been circulating about Madonna dating her much younger backup dancer. But, Williams’ father, Drue, has confirmed to TMZ that the two are indeed an item.
“Love has no age.” He says, “My son is livin’ la Vida Loca, and I’m just happy for him.”
Drue claims that his son and the 61-year-old pop star and mother of six have been together for a little over a year. The two initially met in 2015 when his son auditioned to be a backup dancer for Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour. Madonna handpicked Ahlamalik for the gig.
Following her NYC show in September, Madonna met Drue and Ahlamalik’s mother. The following month, she hosted his parents during one of her Ceasar’s Palace shows. Afterwards, Drue claims that Madonna invited the family to her suite, where her personal chef-prepared dinner for the group.
Apparently, Madonna and the parents hit it off so well, that she invited them to her shows in both London and France scheduled for early next year.
Eddie Murphy Says He Doesn’t Regret His Old Jokes “Whatsoever” But Some Of Them Do Make Him Cringe, Talks Calling Out The Oscars In The 80s!
Eddie Murphy says he doesn’t regret his old jokes, but some of them do make him cringe.
In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 58-year-old comedian revealed that he still laughs at “some of” his old standups but admits that some of the jokes make him uncomfortable. “Some of it, I cringe when I watch it,” he added. “I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe I said that.’”
He continued, “I’ve seen (old) stuff (now) where you go like, ‘Oh, that’s – ooh.’ Yeah, you get a joke every now and then that’s cringey. But that’s not to say I don’t appreciate it. I can still appreciate it. And I’m looking at it within the context of the time. I’m going, ‘Okay, I’m a kid saying that.’”
Murphy also noted that he received criticism for some of his older material, telling CBS “in the moment, you kind of was like, ‘It is what it is.’” After self-reflecting, the Brooklyn native said he has no regrets “whatsoever.”
Despite times being different, Murphy was not excluded from criticism back then. One of the comedian’s most popular standups, “Delirious,” was filled with controversial jokes about AIDS and gay people. The standup was released in 1983, but the comic sent out a statement in 1996 apologizing for his words after gay activists demanded “The Late Show with David Letterman” cancel his appearance.
“I deeply regret any pain all this has caused,” Murphy said in the statement. “Just like the rest of the world, I am more educated about AIDS in 1996 than I was in 1981,” Murphy said. “I know how serious an issue AIDS is the world over,” he added. “I know that AIDS isn’t funny. It’s 1996, and I’m a lot smarter about AIDS now.”
Murphy also said he had no regrets after calling out the Oscars back in 1988. Like today, the Oscars neglected communities of color within film, and Murphy made it a point to call attention to its lack of diversity. “I’m going to give this award, black people will not ride the caboose of society, and we’re not going to bring up the rear anymore,” Murphy said.
“At the time, did you have people saying, ‘Ooh, Eddie, you shouldn’t have done that,” the interviewer asked. “No,” he replied. “You know what’s interesting? After I said that, it went the exact opposite way. There was no mention – it was almost like I wasn’t at the awards that night. The next day, there was no mention of it in the papers. Not a blip. And there were no pictures of me at the Oscars.” The interviewer then mentioned how the comedian said he wouldn’t get nominated because of his remarks. “And then I didn’t get nominated for Oscars for years!” The journalist asked, “You think that had something to do with it?” Murphy replied, “I don’t know. What do you think?”
Murphy said that being comfortable with who he is and having God by his side is all he needs. “I’ve always been really comfortable in my skin. It’s ’cause I’ve always been grounded spiritually, you know? I believe in God, and I believe in prayer.”

Angelina Jolie Takes Daughter Zahara To Her Birth Country To Meet Ethiopia's President!
Angelina Jolie is raising her kids to be citizens of the world! The mother of six took her daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, to her birth country of Ethiopia just over a week before her 15th birthday and they had the honor of meeting the country's first female president, Sahle-Work Zewde.
A source told Hollywood Life that Angelina thought the trip would be a good experience for her kids.
“Angelina Jolie has taken the kids on a trip to Ethiopia, they left a couple of days ago. It’s where Zahara was born, so it’s important to Angelina that they keep the connection strong,” the source told HollywoodLife. “They’ll be doing sightseeing and getting to know more about her beautiful birth country.”
Jolie and Zahara wore matching flowy white dresses as they were being escorted to meet Zewde. Shiloh also tagged along but opted for a dark jacket. Jolie went in for a very respectable handshake with the president but Zewde opened her arms wide to embrace Zahara. Shiloh also got a hug but, judging by the awkward moment, the 13-year-old was not expecting it. The whole event was captured by the Ethiopian News for the world to see.
Angelina sat down with Harper's BAZAAR in November and expressed her desire to move abroad with her kids. Maddox already moved to South Korea to attend college and Jolie has that international bug. There is only one big problem... Brad Pitt.
Pitt and Jolie have been going back and forth of the details of their divorce for years and one of those details is about the custody of their kids. In the interview, the actress revealed that Pitt is actually keeping her and her kids in the United States.
"I would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18," Jolie told the magazine "Right now I’m having to base where their father chooses to live."
Jolie has traveled all around the world and has experienced many more places than the average person but she is still looking for that special place.
"My favorite place is somewhere I’ve never been," Jolie said. "I like to be dropped into the middle of something new. I enjoy being out of my element. I want the children to grow up in the world—not just learning about it but living it and having friends around the world. Next year we break ground on a home in Africa."
Man Attempts To Snatch A Woman Off Bronx Subway Train, Later Beaten By Good Samaritans!
An unhinged man dressed in Santa Claus red was arrested after a wild day where he was apparently videotaped abducting a young screaming girl from a Bronx subway train — and then beaten hours later on a Bronx sidewalk by vigilantes who viewed the viral clip, cops said.
Sonny Alloway, 48, was found by police inside a Bronx deli where he sought refuge from a vicious street assault by angry attackers who kicked and punched the outnumbered man as one of the crew videotaped the frenzy of fists and feet. One of the assailants is heard accusing Alloway of sexually assaulting the apparently underage girl 13 hours earlier aboard the train.
The subway suspect was arrested for unlawful imprisonment and confessed to the scary stunt targeting the young woman aboard the train, a law enforcement source said.
The subway video caught Alloway pulling an unsuspecting young woman from her seat aboard a No. 6 train inside the Morrison Ave.-Soundview/Westchester Ave. station about 2:30 a.m. Monday, cops said.
“No! What the f---? Let me go!" the woman howls as Alloway deposits her on a platform bench. “What are you doing? Let me go!”
WATCH
She quickly worms out of his grasp, runs back onto the train and awakens her companion. She appeared unhurt and Alloway escaped — only to encounter more trouble hours later at the hands of an angry Bronx crew at Rosedale and Randall Aves. Local residents, after eyeing the video online, quickly connected Alloway with the bizarre subway incident, police said.
“First I lost my mom, now my pops is dead to me,” his embarrassed son Sonny Jr. posted on Facebook. “I’m so ashamed, embarrassed & mortified for the young lady that has had to experience this.”
A cellphone video taken by a fellow straphanger shows Alloway trying to chat up the young woman as she sat alongside her sleeping companion.
When the train doors open, he scoops the woman up and carries her off the train to a bench on the platform. She quickly escapes, with her stunned companion and other witnesses threatening Alloway, the video shows.
Although Alloway managed to avoid both arrest by police and assault by fellow straphangers, his luck soon ran out. A second video recorded hours after the abduction shows Alloway, wearing a different jacket, absorbing a dose of street justice.
“You like raping little girls?" one man is heard screaming during a harsh beating. “You f---ing rapist!”
WATCH
At least three attackers repeat the allegation as they kick, punch and spit in Alloway’s face before he manages to walk away and find shelter inside a nearby deli. Cops found him there and quickly charged him in connection with the earlier subway video.
“Force was used, but he’s a big guy, like 6-feet,” said the law enforcement source. “Things got heated, and there was a fight.”
He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with minor bumps and bruises and later arrested at a Bronx police precinct, cops said. Police are actively searching for the woman he carried off the train, officials said.
Alloway’s rap sheet includes prior arrests for drug possession and assault, sources said.
