Taraji P. Henson has absolutely no time for sexist jokes, and we love her for it. The Empire actress, who is starring in new film What Men Want – yes, a much-needed reboot of that Mel Gibson chick flick – has opened up about why some men in Hollywood can be uncomfortable around powerful women, in a candid chat with NET-A-PORTER’s weekly digital magazine, PorterEdit. And she welcomes it, so she can ‘check their ass’ back to where they came from. Taraji refuses to be ‘crumbled’ by insecure men
‘I don’t know why [men are uncomfortable]. We’re only gonna make you look better. My mouth is just as crass,’ the 48-year-old explained. ‘You can’t crumble me with a sexist joke. If anything, I’m waiting for you to say something so I can check your ass.’ Fair. Play. Taraji’s take on What Men Want is in cinemas on 8 February, and sees her play Ali Davis, a sports agent who gets passed over for a promotion at a male dominated company. And the Cookie Lyon star revealed she’s happy to be able to get her teeth into a subject that’s in the news at the moment – with the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up campaign.
She will be starring in new film What Men ‘I was excited to be dealing with subject matter that’s going on right now,’ she continued. ‘We dig in. You’re laughing but it makes you think.’ Taraji has had an epic career – being nominated for a string of awards including an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button – a role for which she got paid considerably less than co-stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. But it seems her hard work is more than paying off, following the news she will be given a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Discussing the news, producer of the walk – Ana Martinez – explained: ‘Taraji P Henson is a powerful woman and a powerful actress. She is an entertainer that fans cannot take their eyes off of due to her great acting ability.
