Serena Williams for Teen Vogue - December 2018
The tennis star wore cornrows for the magazine’s December cover issue.
Serena Williams is breaking down barriers left and right.

The star tennis player made history on Wednesday as the first woman to ever wear cornrows on a Teen Vogue cover. Williams looks serene and powerful on the magazine’s December cover issue, sporting a coral jacket and delicate gold earrings.
“We put cornrows on the cover of Teen Vogue for the first time in the publication’s history,” the magazine tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

As part of the cover issue, Williams is featured in conversation with Teen Vogue’s new editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner and gun control activist Naomi Wadler. Peoples Wagner explained why one of her first moves as the magazine’s new editor-in-chief was to feature a black woman with cornrows on their cover.
“My mother once told me that to sustain myself in this industry, I would have to be what I needed when I was younger,” Peoples Wagner wrote in the introduction. “So here we are ― Serena in cornrows for the first time on a cover, in conversation with two young black girls just trying to figure out our magic.”

Williams explained in the interview why it’s so important to support women, but especially her fellow women of color.
“We really have to support each other,” she said. “I always like to say that women really should support each other, because the success of one woman should be the inspiration to the next. If we look at it that way, there would be so much more that we can accomplish.”
The cover was shot by another black woman, British photographer Ronan Mckenzie.
Wadler, a 12-year-old student who first gained notoriety after speaking at the March for Our Lives protest in Washington, D.C., last year, added earlier in the conversation that her fellow activists are the ones who inspire her to keep working.
“I think that that’s what keeps me motivated, knowing that people care and that I’m not alone, and that we’re not alone, and that we’re all together, and there’s power in numbers,” she said. “I think about that and I can continue on.”

#RHoA: NYPD Officers: Bring Back Kenya Moore and Phaedra Parks!
While Bravo executive Andy Cohen was out and about in New York City over the weekend, he got a surprising message from local law enforcement about “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

Cohen, who is an executive producer of the long-running reality show, captured the moment cops requested Kenya Moore and Phaedra Parks’ return on his Instagram Story Saturday, Dec. 8.
“You had an initial message, you called me over. What did you want me to know?” Cohen asked two female officers who are fans of the ATL ‘wives.

“Bring Phae Phae back,” the officer in the passenger seat says.
“I want Kenya back,” the officer in the driver’s seat responds.
“Everybody knows, everybody knows,” the cop sitting passenger side says, humorously quoting Parks.
“Everybody knows,” Cohen says. “Stay tuned.”

The officers’ asks are not uncommon. Fans regularly flood RHOA fan Instagram pages begging for Moore and Parks to rejoin the cast.
And at least one of the police officers is going to get her wish.
Kandi Burruss has stated that she was able to convince her pal and new mom Moore to show up to an event for Cynthia Bailey, which is likely going to be seen later this season. Moore had elected not to return to RHOA for season 10 blaming on-screen drama.

She said in a statement issued in October that she “decided to take this season off to focus on my high-risk pregnancy in a healthy and drama free environment. I thank Bravo for this amazing platform that has allowed me to grow, flourish and appreciate the value of what is truly important in life.”

Parks was unceremoniously handed a pink slip after season 8 when she spread a rumor that Burruss wanted to rape and drug Porsha Williams in the singer’s alleged sex dungeon. While Moore has flirted with the idea of coming back to RHOA full time, Parks has made it clear the door is closed on that area of her life.

“You know, I have closed that chapter, and I’ve moved on to new things,” the Atlanta attorney told Us Weekly in August addressing her inclusion on “Braxton Family Values.”
“I’m now with WE tv and I’m very happy and very excited about the opportunities that they’ve presented to me. So, you know, that’s a done deal at the moment. I never say never, but you know, I’ve moved on to greener pastures.”

Well what do you think?

#Empire: Actor asks Supreme Court to review 'Empire' case
Actor says idea for 'Empire' show is his. A local actor who claims Fox's hit show "Empire" was his idea has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case.
Philadelphia-based actor Clayton Prince filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari on Nov. 26 to enforce his copyright infringement lawsuit against writer, director and producer Lee Daniels.

In 2016, Prince sued Daniels, the show's creator, as well as Fox and the Greater Philadelphia Film Office for copyright infringement, but his case was tossed from a 3rd Circuit court.
The Cert Petition requests that the U.S. Supreme Court review the lower court's decision, and allow him a jury trial.
Prince said in 2008, he pitched his copyrighted idea for the show (titled "Cream") at the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and met with Daniels.

Prince said Daniels liked the idea, but never followed up with him.
Then in 2015, Prince says he saw his show idea, now called "Empire" on Fox with Daniels as a show creator.

Ellen Is Thinking About Retiring From Her Hit Daytime Show In 2020
Today’s favorite daytime talk show host may be leaving her hit show in 2020.

Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres’ contract will come to an end in 2020 and she’s thinking about leaving the show afterwards for good. The 60-year-old told New York Times that she’s interested in pursuing other projects that allow her to express more of her personality. While she loves her show, her wife Portia de Rossi, wants her to have a change pace.

During the interview, which was set up to promote her new Netflix comedy special “Relatable,” DeGeneres expressed how the special allowed her to abandon the “nice woman” character she’s created on the talk show. Co-director Tig Notaro said the host is “trapped in the world of being asked to dance and expected to be nice. … It’s an interesting pickle she’s in.” While DeGeneres said that her “talk show is me,” she admitted she’s “also playing a character of a talk-show host,” adding,” There’s a tiny, tiny bit of difference.”

DeGeneres’ wife says it’s time to hang it up. “I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity,” de Rossi told the New York Times. “There are other things she could tackle.” Post-daytime project ideas include another movie from the woman who voiced Dory in ”Finding Nemo,” with DeGeneres saying she’d have fun playing “someone unappealing,” Yahoo reports. De Rossi also thinks DeGeneres should look into doing a podcast, “I don’t see the end of her show as her career-ending.” On the other side DeGeneres’ brother, Vance DeGeneres, says she can’t stop the show as people need her positivity during Trump’s reign. DeGeneres told the paper that de Rossi “gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop.”

The show has been on air since 2003  and has won several awards. DeGeneres recently renewed her contract but is still in the decision-making process. Her comedy special hits Netflix on Dec. 18.

Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers Sparks Outrage After Mocking Miss Vietnam
With the 2018 Miss Universe competition just days away, Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers is in the spotlight—but not for any reason she'd want.

In footage surfacing online, the 24-year-old Nebraska native was captured calling attention to fellow contestants Miss Cambodia Rern Sinat and Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie. The videos were reportedly captured from an Instagram Live on Miss Colombia Valeria Morales' account. She and Miss Australia Francesca Hung were also present for the conversation.

"What do you think of Miss Vietnam Nie?" Summers asked the women during the video.

"She's so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she goes [nods and smiles]," Summers said before laughing. "She's adorable." After Morales asked her "how?" Summers did the imitation again.
Further into the video, Summers brought up Sinat.
"Miss Cambodia is here and doesn't speak any English and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?" she asked. "Francesca said that would be so isolating and I said yes and just confusing all the time."

"Poor Cambodia," she added.
The comments have sparked a wave of reactions online with many slamming Summers and calling out the fact that it is an international competition. "You are in a competion called Miss Universe and not in an English class my dear!" one critic commented. "I think this is not a good example of being a queen."

Others questioned her eligibility to compete after making the remarks. "Well, I seriously don't want to see the next miss universe saying stuff like this," another commentator added online.

Mariah Carey Scores $3 Million Victory in Concert Promoter Legal Battle
Mariah Carey can breathe a little easier with the $3 million lawsuit filed against her and her company officially over.
On December 12, a New York judge ordered the remaining claims against Carey’s entertainment company to be thrown out in the case involving the South American concert promoter, FEG Entretenimientos S.A.

The order states the promoter’s lawyer dropped them and they failed to hire a new team by a court deadline. As a result, their counter-case against Carey was dismissed and the singer agreed to toss her original case over money she claims to be owed.
The lawsuit stemmed from legal action MiMi originally took when she claimed she did not receive proper payment for the scheduled appearances, which then forced her to cancel.
The promoters countersued and accused Mariah of defaming them in a tweet that read, “Devastated my shows in Chile, Argentina & Brazil had to be canceled. My fans deserve better than some of these promoters treated them.”

FEG wanted $3 million — $2 million for the defamation claim and another $1 million for bailing on the concerts.
Back in August, the judge dismissed the defamation claim against the singer and noted that her tweet was an “opinion.”

Mariah Carey was personally cleared of the $2 million claim but her entertainment company was still on the hook for the remaining $1 million for the botched performances until the recent dismissal.

Jennifer Lopez's Red Carpet Dress For her film ‘Second Act’ was FLOWING IN PINK!
Jennifer Lopez just redefined what it means to be "pretty in pink."
The "I'm Real" singer looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet at the premiere for her new film Second Act. She stars in it alongside This Is Us' Milo Ventimiglia, Vanessa Hudgens and Leah Remini

J.Lo let her outfit do all the talking at the event as she wore a hot pink Giambattista Valli dress that was short in the front and floor-length in the back. It also featured a very long train that looked like it continued for miles.  Her Jimmy Choo bag and shoes perfectly complemented the dress, as did her Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
She wore her hair atop her head in a simple and sleek bun. If anyone could put the look into one word, it's simply "Wow."

Alex Rodriguez, J.Lo's loving boyfriend, posted a picture on Instagram of the two of them getting ready to leave for the premiere. The two of them were all smiles and looked ready to hit the carpet already. A-Rod and J.Lo's Christmas tree decorating looked fun enough as it is, but this is a whole other ballgame.

Tennessee Governor Considering Clemency for Cyntoia Brown
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said on Monday that he is carefully considering the clemency request for Cyntoia Brown, who was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2004 for killing a 43-year-old man who had solicited her for sex when she was just 16 years old. The Tennessee Supreme Court ruled last week that Brown must serve 51 years before she’s eligible for parole.

Prosecutors said that Brown went with Johnny Mitchell Allen with the intent to rob him, but she and her lawyers insisted that she shot Allen in self-defense because she thought he was going to kill her. She also said she went home with him to have sex for money on the orders of her abusive boyfriend, who beat her and forced her into prostitution. In her appeal, she said that she only took money from the victim’s wallet after he was dead because she was afraid of what would happen if she went back to her boyfriend empty handed.

Governor Haslam was speaking at an event on the importance of higher education in Tennessee on Monday when Justin Laing, a higher-education professional and member of Black Lives Matter Nashville, stepped up to the mic during the audience question portion.

“Since we’re here talking about education, I wanted to ask a question about one of your Tennessee students and a graduate of Lipscomb University, Cyntoia Brown,” Laing said, to audience applause. Brown earned her associates degree from Lipscomb while incarcerated.

“As a victim of sex trafficking and assault, this is an unjust sentence in the first place,” Laing said. Under Tennessee law, all minors engaged in sex work are legally considered victims of sex trafficking. “She has not been treated as a victim of trafficking and not given the justice she deserves.”

“The Supreme Court’s decision that Cyntoia must serve 51 years before she can be considered for parole is a human rights issue,” Laing said. “And so I ask you, what really, functionally, is the difference between life without parole — which is no longer constitutional as the United States Supreme Court declared for minors, for any crime — and ‘you might get parole after 51 years,’ for a victim of sex trafficking?”

One of the moderators attempted to interrupt him and move on to another audience question, but Laing continued: “And so I ask why has Cyntoia Brown been incarcerated for 14 years for enduring harm? And so I say Governor Haslam, you have the power and ability to grant clemency to Cyntoia Brown, and so I ask when will you grant her clemency, I ask what will be your legacy as you leave office, and how will you answer to this human rights violation that the state of Tennessee is committing by keeping her incarcerated?”

The governor thanked Laing for his question, and responded that his office is in the midst of reviewing Brown’s case.

“We’re reviewing a lot of cases,” he said, “and while Cyntoia’s case has gotten a lot of publicity, I don’t think you want us to treat hers any different than a whole lot of cases that I think people want us to review.”
Governor Haslam reiterated that his office is talking to everyone involved in Brown’s case, and they will have a decision on clemency before he leaves office in six weeks. In response, a woman in the audience shouted, “That’s not good enough!” and chants of “What do we want? Clemency! When do we want it? Now!” and “No justice, no peace” erupted, preventing the event from continuing.

Celebrities including Kim Kardashian West and Rihanna have spoken out about Brown’s case, and since the Supreme Court ruling last week there’s been renewed interest online, with advocates encouraging people in Facebook groups and on Twitter to call Governor Haslam’s office and demand clemency for Brown before he leaves office in January. A petition on MoveOn.org urging the governor to grant clemency has over 500,000 signatures

She leaves behind two children and her husband, according to a tweet posted by FOX2 anchor Roop Raj.

Stunned co-workers struggled to make sense of the tragedy, with morning anchor Amy Andrews tweeting, "Our hearts are broken."

Starr had been at the network since 2012. She had recently been off the air while recovering from Lasik surgery.
Starr last tweeted Nov. 14, commenting about the difficulties she was having after the operation, The Detroit Free Press reported.
"Yesterday was a struggle for me. I really wanted to come back but need more time to recover. Please keep me in your thoughts during this challenging time," she wrote in part.
The statement announcing Starr's death was read live by her former colleagues Thursday and then posted to the station's website.

Born in Southfield and raised in Commerce Township, Starr held two meteorology degrees, from Michigan State University and Mississippi State University, according to her station biography page.
