EBONY caught up with Grammy Award-winning superstar Chance the Rapper to see if he'd actually be down to be POTUS one day
At just 24, Chance the Rapper is wise beyond his years. The Chi-Town MC knows the secret to success, and it isn’t limited to simply being “blessed.”
See, Chancelor Bennett has a keen sense of self-awareness that most people his age—hell, the world does not possess. The Coloring Book musician doesn’t believe in forcing things. So when he ventured off to Hollywood in an effort to further his career, it was his intuition that served as his compass.
“There are a lot of spaces where you feel like God isn’t around,” Chance states of his brief time in L.A during an interview for EBONY with contributor Adrienne Samuels Gibbs. “I got some vibes. You have to listen and be aware of your discernment, and if somebody tells you to leave? Then get the f*** out of there. You’ll feel it … . You just have to listen to God.”
Judging by Chance the Rapper’s exponential success, anyone can see that discernment is his best kept secret. Achieve global fame and celebrity success? Check. Win three Grammys as an independent artist with absolutely no help whatsoever from record labels? Double check. Raise $2 million—excuse me, $2.2 million—for Chicago Public Schools after a very disappointing meeting with Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner? Double check. Well …you get the point.
“The crisis is real,” says Westcott Elementary principal Monique Dockery, who heads the South Side school where Chance showed up to make his big donations. “The financial piece is huge, but then also it has shifted some people’s outlook on what students could actually do and be in using their own creative talents to move forward.”
This is Chance’s year. In fact, so much that people are actually calling for the “No Problems” rapper to run for public office.
“I would never run for any office or government position,” he says plainly after cracking a smile. “I’m not into it. I think politics is a reason why a lot of stuff doesn’t get done. There’s a lot of favors, and a lot of people are held back by their intentions of being re-elected or the things that they owe their party or constituents. I think when you’re in my position as an artist, I can say what I want and talk about the issues that matter.”
We would never steer anyone away from looking to the Creator for inspiration. But in those moments when you need a little inspiration in human form, in this case, you can certainly leave it up the Chance.

#RHoA: Kandi Burruss on Returning to R.Ho.A: 'It's Gonna Be Even Crazier'!
She's ready for more! Kandi Burruss confirmed to Us Weekly that she's returning to Real Housewives of Atlanta for season 10, in addition to starring in Bravo's upcoming Xscape docuseries.
"Yes, actually I am doing Housewives now and Xscape is having a reality show as well," the reality star, 41, told Us at the BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 25. "I'm doing both at the same time. Right now we're taping both shows. Xscape will be on Bravo this fall along with Housewives. I hope everybody supports the show just as much as they support Housewives."
In fact, Burruss has a feeling this season of RHOA may end up being even wilder than the last. "It was a lot of drama last season, so I kind of prepared myself now that I'm coming into this season, season 10, it's gonna be even crazier," she said. "It's a lot of different things going on, not just with me, but some of our past castmates are coming back, and we're gonna see how that goes. We just started taping this past week. I haven't even seen everybody yet."
The Bravo star reunited with her Xscape bandmates — LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott and Tameka "Tiny" Harris — at the BET Awards on Sunday night. The girl group took the stage for the first time in 18 years to perform a medley of their hit singles, including "Understanding," "Who Can I Run To" and "Just Kickin' It."
Xscape's four-part Bravo series, titled Xscape: Still Kickin' It, is set to feature behind-the-scenes footage of the women as they prepare for their comeback performance at the 2017 Essence Festival. The docuseries premieres this fall.

Tamar Braxton performed at the 2017 BET Awards with a stellar performance of her new hit single “My Man.” Quickly following her performance, the singer/reality star debuted the cinematic music video to the ballad.
Shot in black-and-white, the tale of infidelity inspired by her actual parents is brought to life by the R&B siren herself. After discovering that her man is having an affair with a friend, Tamar finds the hotel where they are laid up and busts through the door.
Slamming the girl into the bathroom sink, she tells off her husband, leaving him shocked and surprised.
“Word around town is that you live with her / And you said that she took your heart away / I told them that’s a lie / Cause I don’t want to hear no bullshit stories about my man,” she sings.
Tamar is currently prepping for the release of her new album, which she will be releasing later this year through her own independent imprint, Tamartian Land Records and Entertainment One.

#HIPHOPNEWS: French Montana Low-Key Announces New Album?
Bad Boy Records’ French Montana is gearing up to drop a full body of work on fans’ head tops. The hip-hop stud is reportedly set to release a new studio album called Jungle Rules next month.
According to reports, Montana has his long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s Excuse My French on deck.
French had previously teased this project last year as a mixtape but looks like it will now serve as a proper studio album via Epic Records. It will hit stores Friday, July 14th. The Coke Boys leader is expected to release his The Weeknd and Max B-featured song as the next single. HHNM has also learned that he’s got at least one song with Pharrell on the LP. (Hip Hop-N-More)
Last year, Montana put out his MC4 project for free-99 after it suffered a widespread leak.
The new LP features appearances by Drake, A$AP Rocky, and Kanye West. It includes previously shared songs “No Shopping” (with Drake), “Figure It Out” (with Kanye West and Nas) and “Lockjaw” (with Kodak Black). MC4 was originally intended to be released in October but was delayed due to “sample clearance issues and leaks.” It is the latest in French’s long-running Mac & Cheese series. John McEnroe Says Serena Williams Would Rank #700 Among Men
John McEnroe thinks that Serena Williams is the best female tennis player in the world, but he doesn’t think she can compare to any of the top male players in the sport.
The 58-year-old tennis legend, who won 23 Grand Slam titles in his career, made some controversial remarks in a new NPR interview.
“Best female player ever — no question,” John said. He added, “If she played the men’s circuit, she’d be, like, 700 in the world.”
“That doesn’t mean I don’t think Serena is an incredible player, I do,” John added. “The reality of what would happen on a given day is Serena could beat some players, I believe, because she is so incredibly strong mentally. But, if she had to just play the circuit — the men’s circuit — that would be an entirely different story.”
“Maybe at some point, a woman tennis player can be better than anybody. But I haven’t seen it in any other sport and I haven’t seen it in tennis. I suppose anything is possible at some stage,” he added.

'Scandal's Final Season Gets An Episode Count!
There are new details about the upcoming final season of Scandal! The seventh season of Shonda Rhimes‘ long running drama will consist of 18 episodes, according to TVLine.
It’s a two episode increase over season six, which only had 16 episodes due to star Kerry Washington’s pregnancy.
This means that the series will end its seven season run with a grand total of 124 episodes.
“Next year we are going all out. Leaving nothing on the table. Creating this world in celebration. We are going to handle the end the way we like to handle the important things in our Scandal family: all together, white hats on, gladiators running full speed over a cliff,” Shonda recently said about the final season.

Family Of Philando Castile Awarded $3 Million Settlement
Just a week after ex-officer Jeronimo Yanez, was acquitted on June 16 of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of intentional discharge of a firearm, it was announced that the family has reached a $3 million settlement with the city of St. Anthony, Minnesota.
“The death of Philando Castile is a tragedy for his family and for our community,” said a statement from the city and lawyers for the family. “The parties moved expeditiously to resolve potential civil claims resulting from this tragedy in order to allow the process of healing to move forward for the Castile family, for the people of St. Anthony Village, and for all those impacted by the death of Philando Castile throughout the United States.”
“No amount of money could ever replace Philando. With resolution of the claims the family will continue to deal with their loss through the important work of the Philando Castile Relief Foundation.”
Castile was killed last year on July 6 during a traffic stop, and his girlfriend streamed the shooting’s aftermath on Facebook Live.
Last week, new dash cam footage of the murder was released and it’s apparent that Castile was completely cooperating with the office, alerting him to the fact that he had a firearm, but was still shot 7 times.
Yanez testified at his trial that Castile put his hand on his firearm, not his wallet or identification papers, and was pulling the gun from his pocket. “I didn’t want to shoot Mr. Castile,” Yanez said. “That wasn’t my intention. I thought I was going to die.”
Yanez, is no longer on the police force.
Kendu Isaacs calls out Mary J. Blige on social media during BET Awards
Kendu Issacs has a whole lot of nerve to make a live video saying anything about the queen, Mary J. Blige.
After Blige’s performance at the 2017 BET Awards, Issacs was in his feelngs because Blige obviously was in her feelings when she stepped onto that BET Awards stage and started off with a song from her new album letting Issacs know “there’s a special place in hell for you” and we know exactly who she was talking about.
Before Blige got into her performance, she alluded to the fact that someone was taking trips with that b—- and spending money on shopping sprees and how she didn’t deserve that, but she is moving on. Issacs was apparently watching, snapped a photo of his TV screen and responded on social media.
What we really would like to hear from Issacs is the truth about whether he cheated on Blige. But I guess we’ll have to settle for the second post he put up professing his “love.”
Blige’s legal troubles haven’t ended as she was ordered by the court last month to pay Issacs $30,000 per month for temporary support and to handle his attorney fees in a lump sum amount of $235,000 payment. And yet Issacs still feels the need to make comments about Blige still being pissed off?
What are your thoughts? Do you think Isaacs could have just texted Blige or waited until she got home after a great night to send her this message? This writer thinks he was being very thirsty and attention hungry to do this immediately after her performance.

'Fuller House' Season Three Set to Premiere on 'Full House' 30th Anniversary
The third season of Fuller House just got a premiere date!
The premiere of the new season of the Netflix series is set to debut on September 22nd.
The date happens to coincide with a special occasion – the 30th anniversary of Full House‘s first episode when it premiered on ABC!
Series creator Jeff Franklin announced the news on his Instagram, with a throwback photo of the cast.
“September 22, 2017 — the 30th anniversary of the debut episode of FULL HOUSE, and SEASON 3 of FULLER HOUSE drops on Netflix. I’m having a drink that night!!” he wrote.
