Eric Cantor Defeated By Tea Party Candidate In Virginia Primary
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has lost his Republican primary in Virginia's 7th Congressional District to Tea Party challenger David Brat — a stunning upset that will rewrite the leadership of the chamber's GOP leadership.
Brat, an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College, was leading Cantor by 55 percent to 44 percent of the vote.
"I know there's a lot of long faces here tonight, and it's disappointing, sure," Cantor said, speaking to supporters. "I believe in this country; I believe there's opportunity around the next corner for all of us.
NPR's Ron Elving calls the defeat of Cantor, who was widely expected to eventually replace House Speaker John Boehner, "Truly stunning and all but unprecedented for a speaker-in-waiting."
Politico says that Brat tapped into "strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantor's Richmond-area district."
Although Cantor is a conservative and has been close to the Tea Party, "in the past two years they've been angered by his shift to support for some kind of immigration reform. Brat made that an issue, saying Cantor was no longer a real conservative," NPR's Don Gonyea says.
Even so, "Going into the elections, most Republicans had been watching for how broad Mr. Cantor's victory would be, with almost no one predicting that he would lose," The New York Times says.
The Washington Post, in an article earlier Tuesday, said Cantor was expected to prevail but acknowledged that Brat had "exposed discontent with Cantor in the solidly Republican, suburban Richmond 7th Congressional District by attacking the lawmaker on his votes to raise the debt ceiling and end the government shutdown, as well as his support for some immigration reforms."
Reuters says Cantor, the No. 2 in the House, heavily outspent his opponent, who managed to raise just over $200,000 for his campaign, according to his most recent campaign finance reports.
The Associated Press says:
"[Cantor's] loss to Dave Brat, a political novice with little money, marks a huge victory for the Tea Party movement, which supported Cantor just a few years ago.
"Brat had been a thorn in Cantor's side on the campaign. ... Last month, a feisty crowd of Brat supporters booed Cantor in front of his family at a local party convention."
The Hill calls Cantor's defeat "perhaps the most significant jolt to the Republican establishment since the emergence of the Tea Party in 2009":
"While conservative activists have ousted veteran Republicans like Sens. Bob Bennett (Utah) and Richard Lugar (Ind.), a sitting majority leader has never been defeated in a primary election.
"As recently as Friday, Cantor and his team in Virginia projected confidence.
" 'I'm just not worried,' Cantor's Richmond-based political adviser, Ray Allen, told The Hill. Cantor's own polling showed him with a comfortable lead.
"Brat told The Hill he was 'peaking at exactly the right time.' "

Angelina Jolie Glams Up Global Summit To End Sexual Violence In Conflict
She just finished promoting her massive new movie “Maleficent” and already Angelina Jolie is on to the next task- ending sex abuse in war zones.
The “Changeling” actress joined William Hague for the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in London, England, looking lovely in a cream-colored ensemble.
Hague told the BBC that immediate action is required to address the horrific problem and he’s glad Jolie is on board to raise awareness.
"If anything, this is getting worse - war zone rape as a weapon of war, used systematically and deliberately against civilian populations. What this campaign needs is big powerful governments of the world, like us, with a big diplomatic network and a big development budget to really get involved and take action, as we are. But it also needs people who will be listened to in a different way from governments and speak with their own personal authority and Angelina Jolie brings that.
"She is very committed to this, very knowledgeable about the issues, she has come up with many of the ideas for the campaign. She and I have been working closely on this for the last two years and we will keep doing so."

College Grad Addresses Breastfeeding Photo, Defends Her Actions
Karlesha Thurman, the 25-year-old college student shown breastfeeding her daughter during a graduation ceremony, has spoken out over the viral image. Thurman addressed the controversy surrounding the photo, and defended her actions despite the overwhelming praise she received for her actions.
Thurman appeared on NBC’s Today show Monday to discuss the photo she took as she graduated from Long Beach State University in May. The accounting graduate posted a photo of she breastfeeding her three-month-old daughter, Aaliyah, and posted it to a Facebook group titled “Black Women Do Breastfeed” in a bid to bring normalcy to the act. As the image spread throughout social media last week, Thurman was both highly celebrated and criticized.

Thurman, who earned her accounting degree, said she never wanted attention because of the photo and didn’t realize that some people have a problem with public breast-feeding. She didn’t think twice about nursing amid her fellow graduates, and has never had a problem nursing where she needed to.
“I honestly thought that as a society, people were more understanding to breast-feeding and understood the importance of breast-feeding,” said Thurman, 25.
“It’s not disgusting, it’s not a bad thing, it’s not a negative thing,” Thurman added. “It’s the best thing for my daughter. More people should do it.”
Thurman also said that no one at the ceremony said anything to her over the public breastfeeding save for a friend who snapped the photo out of admiration. Thurman, who is engaged, has not let the negative reactions to the photo detract her from nursing one bit.
“If you’re able to breast-feed, I don’t see why you wouldn’t regardless of race,” she said. “If you can give your child a gift as great as breast milk, I don’t see why you would deny them that because of society.”

Chief Keef EVICTED from His Highland Park Home!
I knew this was going to be coming soon…because they didn’t want him there in the first place.
Chicago’s rapper Chief Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, has being evicted from his Highland Park home this morning, according to officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s office.
Officers with the sheriff’s department searched the housing today. The owner of the home, Bal K. Bansal, denied he was evicting Cozart and said he’d been a good tenant.
“This is mutual,” Bansal said. “It is not an eviction.
But officers on the scene confirmed Cozart was being evicted. At a May 7 court hearing, an order for forcible entry and detainer was filed — the culmination of an eviction process that began back in February. By March, Cozart had fallen behind on rent payments by about $30,000 before reaching an agreement to pay the full amount by April 20, according to court documents.
Some of Cozart’s neighbors disagreed that he had been a good tenant.
“It’s been horrible,” said neighbor Ken Cooper, who said he thought he heard gunshots from the home one night. “… They were certainly not good tenants.”
From what we were told, neighbors have always complained about noise and frequent car traffic in and out of Cozart’s driveway.
