Gabrielle Union Reveals Why She Was a MEAN GIRL, Covers ESSENCE's December 2013 Issue

She's Holiday ready!  In the December issue of ESSENCE, "Being Mary Jane" star Gabrielle Union speaks openly about being a reformed "mean girl". "Being Mary Jane" star Gabrielle Union helms the cover of ESSENCE Magazine's December issue.  Styled by June Ambrose, Gabrielle looks amazing in a Bibhu Mohapatra gown and Stella Valle earrings. 

Inside the issue, the fabulous gal opened up about the emotions that fueled her past image as a "mean girl".

"There's this intense desire for us all to be chosen by a man, or a job, or chosen for fame, whatever. But when you're in the public eye and you're not chosen, the rejection feels public. So to cover the wound, you attack the person who is chosen."

Gabrielle, who credits life coach AJ Johnson with helping her let go of the negativity, also shared how an incident of "rejection" led to a huge opportunity.  She told the mag that after she lost the lead role in Jumping The Broom to Paula Patton, director Salim Akil was so impressed by her that he recommended her to Mara Brock Akil for the role of "Mary Jane."

Talk about closed doors and open windows!

When discussing "Being Mary Jane" (which returns to BET on Jan. 7th, Yasssss!) she said,

"It would be easy to label Mary Jane a freak...but enjoying sex doesn't make you a ho. I hope [Being Mary Jane] widens the conversation. I hope people will be more forgiving of those who explore their sexuality unapologetically."

Also, Gabby talks about NBA baller boyfriend Dwyane Wade and shares how a conversation about Beyonce at a beauty salon changed her life. The December issue of ESSENCE hits newsstands November 8th. 

Nene Leakes Will Be Debuting A Plus Sized Clothing Line

NeNe is about to be an even more rich bish!

When NeNe Leakes told Sheree that she was a rich bish she wasn’t exaggerating at all. She’s made a name for herself outside of reality tv and after seeing her beautiful wedding, it’s clear that the checks are coming in.

It’s really no secret that NeNe has a sense of fashion, whenever you see her she’s in a fly pair shoes, with a fly bag, and the matching glasses. So we were definitely excited to hear that NeNe would be starting a clothing line. She hasn’t given too many details on what the clothes will look like or even a name for them, all she’s released is that it’s going to happen!

Leakes took to Twitter and her Celeb Buzz blog to announce that she would create a clothing line for which she is currently seeking plus sized models.

“That’s right, my clothing line is coming soon,” Leakes tweeted. “I am looking for Curvy Girls!”

While Leakes has flourished as an actress in shows like “Glee” and the “New Normal,” she has also expressed an interest in various ventures including a wedding business that she previously announced on Twitter.

“I’am totally n the wedding business now,” Leakes tweeted earlier this year. “Wait until u hear abt my new business venture!

All the curvy models better start sending in their applications, this could be a great opportunity.

We’re definitely excited to see the threads that NeNe creates for her clothing line. We hope the line will be something cute for the curvy girls. We can’t wait to see it all come to life. Hope it’s reasonable for everyday people and not just very rich bishes.

Babyface’s Mansion Catches Fire

Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds bathroom got a little to steamy, and went up in flames at his Los Angeles mansion on Saturday, according to a new report over at TMZ.

Several “fire trucks raced” to his house after a fire took hold in the 54-year-old Grammy-winning R&B producer’s bathroom.

Apparently Babyface’s sprinkler system put out the blaze before authorities arrived and nothing much was actually burned, but the sprinklers caused “slight water damage” to the room.

A representative of the musician confirmed that although the residence was occupied, it is unknown whether Babyface was in the house at the time of the fire. No one was reported injured during the incident and the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.

No word on what started the fire.

Gwyneth Paltrow In Red December 2013: I Don't Care What People Think About Me

Reports state that there's a revealing (and character diminishing) expose coming out in Vanity Fair and as a result, Gwyneth Paltrow is keeping her image in tip top shape for the December 2013 issue of Red magazine.

During her interview with the publication (which she edited with her publicist), the "Iron Man" beauty opened up about her critics and revealed how she manages to balance her work flow.

On her approach to haters:

"The older I get I realize it doesn't matter what people who don't know you think. It doesn't matter. You're wasting your energy. It's like, if your partner comes to you - or your best friend - and says, like, 'Listen, I want to talk about something you did that hurt me, or I think you could improve,' sit down and listen to what they have to say. But some friends or so-and-sos - it's like, who gives a s***? And for me, obviously, I have it on a very large, global scale. I don't have it in the village gossip way; but it's the same thing. That's why I really don't read anything. Because if it's important, it filters down to me.""

On her work/family balancing lifestyle:

"I personally think that the work/life balance for a woman should be exactly what she feels is right for her. And nobody else can set her time schedule. And nobody else can tell her how many hours a week she needs to devote to this, that, or the other. It's like, go into a room, get quiet with yourself, and ask what is the true answer for you? And f*** what anybody else says. That idea of'God God, if I don't show up to this concert, all the other moms are going to think I'm terrible.' Well, so f***ing what. It's like, when I'm with my kids, I give them everything I have. And when I'm not, I give whatever I'm doing everything I have. And that's my work/life balance."

On her view on becoming the next Oprah:

"No, [I don't see myself as] the next Oprah, but I do think the idea is to grow goop in a number of ways... My dream would be to have somewhere like [a spa]. A center where you could go and have the best people, and detox and reboot and start fresh. I'd love to get to that point one day."

“Moesha” Star Marcus T. Paulk Charged After Allegedly Kicking His Girlfriend

Marcus T. Paulk, star of the hit TV show, “Moesha,” has been charged with domestic violence for allegedly kicking his girlfriend in the stomach.

I’m not sure if you remember, but back in August Paulk was arrested after allegedly kicking his girlfriend Andi Roxx in the stomach.

Paulk turned himself in to police and was arrested on the spot. His girlfriend says that the two got into a verbal altercation, which escalated toward violence. That’s when she says that he punched her in the face and kicked her in the stomach.

But there is another side to the story as well. The girlfriend also admits that she threw punches at Paulk. But the rule seems to be that whoever wins the fight is going to get put in handcuffs.

As a result of what happened on that fateful night, he may end up facing four years in prison.

Ciara Sparks More Pregnancy Rumors At Abu Dhabi Performance...Then Shows Off A FLAT Tummy

We're STILL not sure if Ciara is pregnant, but we see why some folks are quick to jump to that conclusion.  Once again, while in the middle of another performance, what showed up in that belly area indeed may raise an eyebrow.

The newly engaged "Body Party" cutie hit the stage last night to kick off Formula 1 weekend in the city of Abu Dhabi in the UAE.  And while rocking a leather mini skirt and a fitted sleeveless Egyptian inspired sweater, a slight pooch in the belly was visible.

Now we all know CiCi keeps one of the hardest and hottest bodies in the biz...so it did seem a bit striking.  But it could have been anything.

Plus, when she changed clothes and rocked this all leather look on stage, any sign of a belly mysteriously disappeared:

Kanye gives the fashion game another try with his newest collection for G.O.O.D. music.Kanye launches a line of hoodies, socks, hats, swears, tees and tanks in an effort from DONDA, his creative agency.

All the pieces are embossed  with the “GOOD Angel” and/or a  ”GOOD” stamp.

Idris Elba Covers GQ Magazine’s October Issue…Talks About He Use To Sell Drugs!

The actor opens up to GQ Magazine about his rough time finding work and acting in New York City.

“I was DJ’ing, but I was also pushing bags of weed; I was doing my work,” Elba, 41, said. “I had to. I know that sounds corny, but this is the truth.”

The “Mandela” actor – potentially looking ahead to another promising award season for his role in the upcoming biopic – revealed that while selling marijuana and working as a doorman at Carolines comedy club, he brushed past famous comedians like Dave Chappelle and D.L. Hughley.

“All those black comedians, they knew me as a doorman,” he said.

Now, everyone knows his name.

Then, after things got better following his turn on “The Wire” and a rise to fame, Elba found out in 2010 that a child he thought to be his son was not actually his biologically.

“The celebration of having a son – from a man’s perspective, it’s massive,” he said. “It wasn’t immediately obvious – well, it was, because he didn’t look like me. … To be given that and then have it taken away so harshly was like taking a full-on punch in the face.”

Malik Yoba Hosts Birthday Dinner: Melyssa Ford & Leon Robinson Attend

Recently, actor Malik Yoba held a very intimate dinner presented by Hennessy V.S at the swanky Duane Park in NYC. The actor, who was dressed in a black and white tuxedo, celebrated his birthday by surprising his closest friends and family with a performance. Solange RELEASES STILLS & VIDEO For "Lovers In The Parking Lot"

Singer/fashionista Solange has dropped the latest clip from her True ep, "Lovers In The Parking Lot".  And she's giving us those big curls and that quirky yet flawless fashion sense of hers we've come to love.

The younger Knowles sis co-directed the clip with Peter J. Brant and Emily Kai Bock of The Creators Project at King's Flea Market in Houston, TX.  Of course...

Bun B (who once worked at the mall where the clip was shot) and producer Mannie Fresh make cameos in the clip.

Solange is currently splitting her time between Brooklyn and New Orleans as she preps her first full-length album for her own label, SaintsRecords.

Tupac Biography Movie Is Officially Headed to The Big Screen

It took 17 years to make it official, they’ve speculated for a long time that they were in the process of bringing Pac and his life to the big screen and I guess it is true. According to Deadline.com Morgan Creek Productions and Emmett Furla Films are in final negotiations to partner on the film entitled Tupac, it was announced today.

Pac’s mother Afini Shakur has signed on to executive produce the film, the movie will also be produced by James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and LT Hutton along with Randall Emmett and George Furla. The films budget is reportedly at $45 Million and the movie will center around his life and showing his life cutting short in 1996 at the age of 25. Production will begin in Atlanta.. “YAAAAY”” The producers have the rights to use Tupac’s music catalog. Now I wonder who will play Pac, we remember how horrible Anthony Mackey portrayed him in the 2009 movie of the Notorious B.I.G. I ‘m sure Pac’s fans will be at the theater front and center when this drops….

"Big Bang Theory" Cast: We Want More Money

It's one of the most popular sitcoms on television these days, so it's no surprise that the cast of CBS' "Big Bang Theory" is demanding a raise.

According to Deadline.com, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch went up from $20,000-$30,000 per episode and "$60,000 this upcoming episode, with their pay steadily increasing every year to reach close to $100,000 an episode by the end of their contracts."

Johnny Galecki, Jim Parson, and Kaley Cuoco are currently earning $325,000 per episode and are projected to earn up to $500,000 per episode….WOW!

Jay Z & Beyoncé Return As Forbes' Top Highest-Earning Celebrity Couple

In what may end up becoming a familiar occurrence, Hip-Hop power pair Jay Z and Beyoncé  get the top spot on Forbes' Highest-Earning Celebrity Couple list for the second year in a row. The husband and wife duo earned a combined $95 million between June 2012 and June 2013.

The achievements of the Carter family are noteworthy, especially when you break apart their careers. Jay Z hit it big with he and Kayne West's collaborative Watch The Throne album and a world tour that netted him $1.4 million per performance. Not to be outdone, Beyoncé and her recent “Mrs. Carter Show” world tour pulled in a gross of $2 million at the gate. There's even more cash coming towards Hov's direction after selling his minority ownership in the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and reportedly gaining $1.5 million for his share of the Barclays Center.

As previously reported, Jay has to rid himself of the ownership stakes in order to keep things legal with the launch of his Roc Nation Sports agency. Beyoncé also keeps several streams of revenue jumping with her House Of Deron clothing line and a fragrance collection. The savvy parents also trademarked toddler daughter Blue Ivy's name for use on products in the future should they desire that.

Right behind them, just like last year, is New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his supermodel wife, Giselle Bundchen who earned $80 million in the same time period by Forbes' estimates. Rounding out the top three highest-earning couples list are Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who earned an estimated $50 million.

Judge Changes Baby Messiah Verdict

A Tennessee judge reversed a ruling Wednesday ordering a mother to change her 8-month-old’s name from “Messiah.”

The boy’s mother, Jaleesa Martin, and father could not agree on a last name, which is how they ended up at a child support hearing in Cocke County Chancery Court last month.

Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew ordered the baby’s name be “Martin DeShawn McCullough.” His name included both parents’ last names but left out Messiah.

“The word ‘Messiah’ is a title, and it’s a title that has only been earned by one person – and that one person is Jesus Christ,” Ballew said.

On Wednesday, Chancellor Telford E. Forgety Jr. overturned Ballew’s decision, ruling that the lower court acted unconstitutionally. He said the lower court violated the establishment clause of the U.S. Constitution, and added that the court’s purpose was to determine the last name of the child, not his first name.

Jeleesa Martin’s attorney said they appealed Ballew’s decision for two reasons: the mother and the father agreed on the first name, and the decision was unconstitutional.

“I was shocked. I never intended on naming my son Messiah because it means God and I didn’t think a judge could make me change my baby’s name because of her religious beliefs,” said Martin.

The child’s name is now Messiah DeShawn McCollough. McCollough is the father’s name.

Martin said she’s relieved.

“I’m just happy — I really don’t have nothing to say. I’m just glad it’s over with,” said Martin after the ruling.

Will Smith’s Son, Jaden Says Kids Should Quit School?

It’s safe to say Jaden Smith isn’t a fan of school, at least in the traditional since. The son of Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith recently went on a Twitter rant about school, education and society. Jaden tweeted:

In 2008, the Smith’s founded their own school, ‘The New Leadership Academy’ in Calabasas, California and closed earlier this year. The academy’s learning environment taught learning, equality, offered organic meals, laptops for every student. And earlier this year, Will shared his parenting philosophy explaining:

I think that, specifically in African American households, the idea coming out of slavery, there’s a concept of your children being property and that was a major part that Jada and I realized with our kids. We respect our children the way we would respect any other person. Things like cleaning up their room. You would never tell a full-grown adult to clean their room, so we don’t tell our kids to clean their rooms.”

Will and Jada have been mum on the subject.

Riding around on a push-bike sponsored by high-street bank Citi, the NY equivalent of London’s ‘Boris Bikes’, the new pictures show a more modern, urban approach to the classic musical.

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx has signed on to play Benjamin Stacks (the “Daddy” Warbucks role); and Cameron Diaz will star as Miss Hannigan. The movie hits theaters on Christmas Day 2014.

Nas' Baby Mama Carmen Bryan Tweets About Jay-Z Affair & Hating Kelis

It seems the "Smarten Up Nas" slander will soon see another resurgence in 2014. Carmen Bryan, the mother of Nas' daughter Destiny Jones, took to the Internet earlier this week to field questions about her past and current dealings with God's Son, her infamous tryst with his former rival Jay Z, her feelings about Kelis and more. To no one's surprise, her responses lead to more questions than answers; all of which point towards her new book slated for an early 2014 release. In her interactions are dry accusations of Nas possibly being bipolar, sleeping with Jay Z while he was dating actress Rosario Dawson [Editor's Note: Hova dated Rosario b?!] and expressing how very little she cares for the Kelis ("[She] could be on fire and I wouldn't spit on that b-tch").

In 2006 Carmen released her autobiography It's No Secret in which spilled the details about her relationship with Nas and the part she played in one of Rap's most high profile beefs. Last year, Bryan drew eye rolls when she inexplicably said she was not a fan of Nas' "Daughters" single.

The Late Gianni Versace Mansion Sells In Miami for $41.5 Million Turning into Hotel

The Miami Mansion where Versace was fatally shot  and Killed has been sold at an auction for $41.5 Million dollars. The Mediterranean-styled estate on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive, just steps from the sea, was once considered the nation’s most expensive home. The Mansion Casa Casuarina went on the market a year ago for $125 Million, but there were no takers.

The home, called Casa Casuarina, features 10 bedrooms and 11 baths, mosaic flooring and an array of frescoes and murals custom-made for Versace. Two rooftop terraces boast spectacular views of the beach. There is also an observatory (complete with bar) for an evening of star-gazing, an open-air courtyard, and a pool lined with 24 carat gold.

The master suite once occupied by Versace himself contains a king-size bed, a huge bathroom, a walk-in closet and a small terrace overlooking the sea. The mansion will be operating as a hotel…

Fantasia Vacays In Barbados With Friends & Family

In between shows and prepping for her role in the upcoming Broadway musical, After Midnight, Fantasia jetted to Barbados for some fun with family and friends. Since touching down on the island the “Without Me” songstress has been enjoying some time at the beach, in the water, and more. Check out more pics from her vacay inside.

She and her fam were able to get a good ocean view. “Went Down in the Ocean Today!!! OMG!!! Never Seen Anything Like it in my Life.. Fish, Turtles and All of Gods Creation,” she wrote. “Thanks You Atlantis for showing me and My Fam So Much Love… To My Barbados Family We Love You!!!!!!!!”

And was spotted in all white as she enjoyed the Barbados night, writing: “We Play ALLL NIGHT ON THE BEACH.”
