The 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards took place last week in Las Vegas, airing to the masses Tuesday (Oct. 15) evening. While the show felt more like a great night at the club than an awards presentation, there were, indeed, winners in this year’s ceremony. Announced throughout the night by host Fat Joe, the first winner was Sexyy Red for Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist, followed by the Bronx rhymer revealing that Compton wordsmith Kendrick Lamar took home a whopping eight trophies.

Former One Direction star Liam Payne died after falling from the third floor of his hotel room in Argentina, according to state police. The English singer was 31. Payne was staying at the hotel CasaSur in Palermo, according to police.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, said on Argentina's Todo Noticias TV channel that Payne fell into a courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the trendy Palermo neighborhood of Argentina's capital. Crescenti declined to answer further questions about the incident, including whether Payne jumped from the balcony or fell by accident.
Crescenti told Todo Noticias that authorities were investigating the circumstances of his death and conducting an autopsy. Argentine media reported that Payne was in Buenos Aires to attend the concert of his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan.
Payne joined One Direction at the group's inception in 2010 after appearing on the show "X Factor." The group also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.
Since the band announced its hiatus in 2015, Payne began a solo career, releasing the song "Strip That Down" in 2017 and the album "LP1" in 2019.

Ananda Lewis, who soared to fame as the iconic host of BET’s “Teen Summit” in the 1990s before becoming a famed MTV veejay, announced that her breast cancer has advanced to stage 4.
Lewis broke the news to her Instagram followers on Tuesday, Oct. 15. She admits that her decision to decline a double mastectomy, keeping the tumor in her body, and relying on natural remedies may have been a mistake because the cancer has spread aggressively.
“I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way,” Lewis said according to People magazine, noting that she chose to remove toxins from her body. “Looking back, I go, ‘Maybe I should have [chosen a different path].’”
“For a really long time, I have refused mammograms, and that was a mistake,” Lewis said, recalling her mother’s breast cancer struggles after having mammograms.

“If I had done the mammograms from the time they were recommended when I turned 40, they would’ve caught the tumor in my breast years before I caught it through my own self-exam and thermography,” Lewis continued. “And they would have caught it at a place where it was more manageable. Where the treatment of it would have been a little easier. It’s never easy, but I use that word in comparison to what I’m going through now. Instead, what I’m dealing with is stage 3 breast cancer that is in my lymphs. I need you to get your mammograms.”

Cobb’s Comedy Show booked Owen to perform at the San Francisco venue on Oct. 11 and 12. He shared footage from his sets on his YouTube channel, with the caption “Trump Supporter Kicked Out Of Comedy Show.”
The 90-second clip starts with an unseen audience member interrupting Owen as he is on stage having a verbal exchange with the person before the badgerer was eventually removed from the premises
“Give me five minutes, motherf—!” the rowdy audience member yelled from his seat. Owen responded, “No. You know what? You’re not going to get five minutes, motherf—! That was the whitest ‘motherf—’ I’ve ever heard.”
The “Think Like A Man” actor continued, “Build your own career, b —! What you want my five minutes for? No refunds, hoe. I still got your money, b— ! So technically you work for me tonight, hoe.”

Amber Guyger Denied Parole After Botham Jean Murder Conviction
*Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, who was convicted in the fatal shooting of Botham Jean in his apartment in 2018, was denied parole last week.
“I wasn’t expecting a response so quickly. We were interviewed on Monday by the parole commissioner, the lead commissioner. It feels like a load lifted,” Allisa Charles-Findley, sister of Botham Jean told WFAA.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice informed the family of the decision in an email that said in part, “This is to notify you that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole for this offender on 10-10-24 until the next review date scheduled for 10-10-26. Should the board receive additional information that may return the case to the review process earlier you will be notified.”

Guyger told authorities she confused Botham’s apartment for her own. Her body-worn camera was not recording during the shooting because she was off duty. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019. She appealed the conviction but lost her appeal two years ago.
“She’s caused my family tremendous, tremendous hurt, tremendous pain,” Allison Jean, Botham’s mother, previously stated. “She ought to remain where she is.”
Guyger was up for parole last month on what would have been Botham’s 33rd birthday.
“She needs to serve her entire 10-year term, which is well below a sentence that one receives for murder,” Jean added. “Murder of an innocent man in the comfort of his home, doing nothing wrong.”
“So we have another two years of peace before we have to go through that again,” Finley said following the parole board’s decicion . “I will sleep so much better.”
“I have always felt that the 10-year sentence was inadequate,” Allison Jean, Botham’s mother, told WFAA during an interview last month. “If they have given her ten years — then she deserves to stay in prison for the 10-year period.”
The legal team representing the family of Botham Jean, including Ben Crump Law, the Washington Law Firm and Romanucci & Blandin released the following statement: “The family of Botham Jean is relieved by today’s decision to deny parole to former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger. This is one very important component of justice for them for the senseless death of their brother and son while he was unarmed and minding his own business in his own home.”
Guyger’s next parole review is set for October 2026.
*Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, who was convicted in the fatal shooting of Botham Jean in his apartment in 2018, was denied parole last week.
“I wasn’t expecting a response so quickly. We were interviewed on Monday by the parole commissioner, the lead commissioner. It feels like a load lifted,” Allisa Charles-Findley, sister of Botham Jean told WFAA.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice informed the family of the decision in an email that said in part, “This is to notify you that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole for this offender on 10-10-24 until the next review date scheduled for 10-10-26. Should the board receive additional information that may return the case to the review process earlier you will be notified.”
