#MAGFAB: Chlöe Bailey for Allure - June/July 2022

On the day of our interview, Chlöe is late and sending apologies from the set of a very hush-hush series Donald Glover is directing for Amazon. Chlöe, who costars alongside Dominique Fishback and Damson Idris, is still waiting to wrap and production is running behind. The truth is, it can’t be helped. When you’re a 23-year-old multihyphenate (actor-dancer-singer-songwriter-producer) phenom who’s moving with heat, schedules are good intentions at best. And Chlöe is hot. Her fourth and final season as Jazz Forster, the track star with a sweetly barbed tongue on Grown-ish, has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing more of Chlöe. In addition to the Glover project, she has at least three other screen roles on deck, including in Praise This, a movie about youth choirs, which is currently shooting in her hometown of Atlanta. (Fun fact: Her sister, Halle, is also in the ATL, shooting an adaptation of The Color Purple.)

Chlöe Bailey on the June/July 2022 cover of Allure Magazine. Shot from the waist up, the portrait features Bailey wearing a red, white, and blue floral patterned dress and gold jewelry. Her locs are pinned up into a faux bob and she stands with one hand on her hip, the other resting across her stomach. Coverline text reads: Chlöe Bailey: The Power of Pleasure.

Then, of course, there’s Chlöe, the highly anticipated solo album that she worked on diligently throughout the pandemic while the rest of us were dutifully restocking home bars and mastering the secrets of sourdough starters. Audiences got their first taste of the album last fall with the release of “Have Mercy,” a titillatingly infectious, straight-up ode to ass that extended everyone’s longings for a pandemic-free, hot girl summer. The song did impressively well, charting in Billboard’s R&B chart and its Hot 100. Chlöe’s second single, “Treat Me,” is also a bop, an anthemic reminder to demand your lovers treat you as well as you treat yourself. Like its predecessor, its message is delivered in the kind of sensual, variegated sonic bouquets that are quickly becoming Chlöe’s signature as a solo artist. Her voice conjures the ancestors, capable of evoking the husky gravitas of Nina Simone and the ethereal flutiness of song-bird Minnie Riperton (a voice long believed to be inimitable).

But Chlöe’s success has not been without controversy. Her performance persona is unapologetically Black femme fatale: glam, sensual, and decidedly committed to exploring the contours of her own pleasure. The buzzwords and phrases that signal the public policing and shaming of Black women’s sexuality — “she doing too much,” “hypersexuality,” “inappropriate,” “too raunchy” — started hovering around Chlöe almost immediately after her Juneteenth 2021 performance of Simone’s classic “Feeling Good” for an ABC television special. Chlöe’s detractors found the bump and grind of her choreography, reminiscent of Black burlesque, anywhere from concerning to downright disrespectful. (Helpful aside: Anyone who thinks Simone didn’t sing sex clearly hasn’t heard her cover of blueswoman Bessie Smith’s 1931 classic, “Need a Little Sugar in My Bowl.” Just saying.) “Have Mercy”’s ass-centricity intensified the social media surveillance of Chlöe, as did her gorgeous IG cover of Riperton’s “Lovin’ You.” This might be a good time to warn you that if you fall into the judgment camp, you’re about to be big mad all over again. The “Treat Me” video? It’s as if “thick thighs save lives” were a person.

A bit of this hoopla can be attributed to the difficulty audiences sometimes have with letting their child stars grow up — Janet Jackson’s “Control” immediately comes to mind. Chloe x Halle have been an adored part of pop culture imagination for almost a decade now, ever since their tween cover of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” on their YouTube channel went viral and Queen Bey wisely signed them to her label, Parkwood Entertainment. But some of this is also rooted in a history that is far more insidious. For Black women, public claims of pleasure and agency have never been easy. Since slavery, our bodies have walked an impossible tightrope between being hypervisible and erotically illegible.

There was a chasm of difference between the way Black and white womanhood was viewed. In keeping with the mores of Victorian womanhood, white women were considered frail, virtuous, and in constant need of protection. Enslaved Black women, however, were believed to be no more than chattel. The primary purpose of our bodies was to provide labor that could be economically exploited, violently disciplined, and sexually violated to reproduce. To justify this exploitation, Black women’s bodies had to be reinscribed as unnatural, depicted as having animalistic strength, but also sexually insatiable and readily available. The truth is, Black women have been trying to undo these deeply disparaging stereotypes ever since. The solution for many was and still is to nix any public performance of pleasure that is in the least bit sexual. It’s considered too dangerous.  GET MORE AT ALLURE

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Shades Her Former 'RHOA' Costars Over Lowest Ratings In Show History

Shade alert! Porsha Williams sounded off after season 14 of Real Housewives of Atlanta premiered with disappointing numbers.

On Wednesday, the ex-Bravo star took to Twitter to repost a clip of former RHOA star NeNe Leakes during a past reunion show saying, "Don't make me call Porsha."

Porsha replied with a kissing face emoji to the caption, which read, "Andy [Cohen]'s group text to all the #RHOA ladies after seeing these ratings."

Earlier this month, it was revealed that 933,000 people tuned into this season's premiere, a substantial drop from the 1.418 million live-viewers who watched the first episode of season 13. It was reportedly "the lowest live-viewed episode in the history of RHOA."

Porsha and Cynthia Bailey previously announced their exits last year while some fan favorites made their return. Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore, Drew Sidora, Marlo Hampton, Sheree Whitfield, and newcomer Sanya Richards-Ross are all featured in season 14.

The Instagram account Real Housewives Franchise pointed out that "although this is low for RHOA, it is now on par with most other Real Housewives shows."

The caption noted, "The only Real Housewives series which gained more than 1 million viewers for their most recent premiere was Real Housewives of New Jersey."

Some fans speculate those ratings may go up since some viewers will watch later on-demand rather than tuning it when the episode first aired on television.

In the past few weeks, NeNe has also been the talk of the town after addressing her ongoing discrimination lawsuit against Bravo.

"I felt it was the right time a couple years ago, a few years ago," she told TMZ about what led her to file the lawsuit in 2022. "But I was constantly being retaliated against, being blacklisted, not able to work, being silenced. It was difficult to do."

As for Porsha, she is now in the process of planning a wedding to her fiancé, Simon Guobadia

#HipHopNews: Drake Announces Return Of Ovo Fest

OVO Fest is back. Drake has announced the return of his signature festival. Last night, the 6 God joined Dave as a special guest during the U.K. rapper’s show at Rebel in Toronto. Before leaving the stage, he told the hometown crowd that he plans to bring back OVO Fest this year.

“I love you with all my heart. They let the city back open, so I will see you at OVO Fest soon,” he said to cheers.

It’s been three years since OVO Fest was last held in Toronto, when B2K headlined and Drake brought out surprise guests including Cardi B, Chris Brown, and Meek Mill. It was canceled in the wake of the pandemic. He has yet to announce 2022 dates, but the event is typically held in early August.

Since its inception in 2010, OVO Fest has featured appearances from hip-hop and R&B’s biggest stars including Eminem, JAY-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, The Weeknd, and Kendrick Lamar.

During Thursday night’s show, Drake also praised Dave, who stars on the Drake-produced Netflix series “Top Boy.”

“This guy right here is a once in a generation talent,” he said. “Whether he’s rapping, pouring out his heart, whether he’s turning all the way up, whether he’s playing the piano, whether he’s acting in our show, ‘Top Boy,’ I promise you this guy right here is a one of one.”

Buffalo shooting suspect Payton Gendron pleads not guilty at arraignment

The alleged deranged mass shooter who shot and killed 10 people in a “racially motivated” rampage in a Buffalo supermarket faced a judge hours after the Saturday afternoon massacre.

Payton Gendron, 18, of Conklin, New York, wore a white paper gown and mask and was surrounded by police officers at his Saturday evening arraignment in Buffalo City Court, according to WKBW-TV.

Gendron was stoic as his court-appointed lawyer pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges on his behalf, the station said.

Gendron wore a white paper gown and mask and was surrounded by police officers.

A man is detained following a mass shooting in the parking lot of TOPS supermarket, in a still image from a social media video in Buffalo, New York, U.S. May 14, 2022.

Alleged shooter Payton Gendron was arraigned in Buffalo City Court, according to local outlets.

He was reportedly remanded without bail and due back in court on Thursday.

Gendron allegedly killed 10 people and injured three others at a Tops grocery store in a predominantly black neighborhood around 2:30 p.m. Eleven of the victims were black and two were white.

He had driven some 200 miles from his home near Binghamton to carry out the sick mass shooting and was heavily armed and wearing tactical gear, officials said.

Gendron is due back in court on Thursday.

The shooting began in the supermarket parking lot and continued in the store, before he was taken into custody by Buffalo police.

“This was pure evil. It was a straight-up racially motivated hate crime from somebody outside of our community, outside of the City of Good neighbors … coming into our community and trying to inflict that evil upon us,” Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said at a press conference.

The FBI was investigating the incident as both “a hate crime and a case of racially-motivated violent extremism,” Special Agent Stephen Belongia said.

“The depth of pain that families are feeling and that all of us are feeling right now cannot even be explained,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said.

Jamal Bryant Gets Called Out For Cheating Numerous Times On Gizelle Bryant, Following His Criticism of Kevin Samuels

Pastor Jamal Bryant recently shared his not so positive opinion of Kevin Samuels.

During a sermon, the ex-husband of Real Housewives Of Potomac star Gizelle Bryant, referred to recently deceased internet personality Kevin Samuels as a weak man. Warning his congregation to steer clear of men like the Youtuber, Jamal Bryant goes on to attack Kevin Samuels philosophies on women and relationships.

In the increasingly viral clip, Jamal Bryant, 50, addresses the GoFundMe set up in memory of the late media personality. Speaking about Kevin he states:

“How can a man say that you are of low value after 35? – How can a man say that you do not have the level of traction of a high powered man when that man has to get a GoFundMe for his funeral.”

Relationship expert Kevin Samuels circulated headlines prior to his passing for sharing his controversial opinion that women over 35 are “used goods”. The social media influencer regularly garnered extreme love or hate emotions when sharing his philosophies, with many believing he often unnecessarily disparaged Black women.

As Jamal Bryant riled up the church crowd, he continued condemning Kevin’s character stating:

“Look at another sister and say ‘I do not hate men’. I just despise weak men. I despise cowardous men….I don’t have to lower my standard! – That man gotta step all the way up to deal with a queen on my level!”

As the clip continued getting exposure, the pastors comments were met with very mixed reactions by social media users. Some people called Jamal a hypocrite, noting the “un-Godly” nature of condemning a dead man. Additionally, Jamal’s critizers reminded him of his past transgressions. Of them, includes stepping out on his ex-wife Gizelle Bryant and fathering other children, causing their split after 6 years of marriage.

Some agreed with the message of the sermon, showing support for Jamal amid the backlash. While others acknowledged that while Jamal’s message may have been good, it’s delivery method may not have been in great taste.

What are your thoughts on Jamal Bryant’s sermon?

Young Thug’s Lawyers File Emergency Motion For Bond, Says He’s In Total Isolation In A Windowless Cement Compartment

Young Thug’s lawyers have filed an emergency motion for a bond hearing due to “inhumane” housing!

Attorney Brian Steel says the Atlanta rapper is being held in total isolation in a windowless cement compartment with only a bed and a toilet. He claims an overhead light that remains on 24 hours a day is preventing Young Thug (born Jeffrey Williams) from getting any sleep. His lawyers also claim the 30-year-old rapper has no access to any type of media and that he hasn’t been given the opportunity to exercise, shower or have any human interaction other than his counsel.

In the new motion, lawyers called Young Thug’s housing conditions “inhumane,” saying he’s being held in solitary confinement in a windowless cement room “as if he is a forgotten person alone in the world.”

As previously reported, Young Thug was arrested on Monday (May 9) in a gang-related indictment that named 28 people. He was taken into police custody on an 88-page indictment, including murder, robbery, and assault charges with a timeline of events dating back to 2015.

Thug’s friend and fellow rapper 28-year-old Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, was among the names listed in the 56-count indictment. Gunna was also charged with conspiring to violate RICO. Other known names also indicted include Yak Gotti, PeeWee Roscoe, and Thug’s brother Unfoonk. The indictment refers to YSL as a “criminal street gang” founded in 2012 with an affiliation with the Bloods.

While his living arrangements sound like a stereotypical jail cell, his attorney says the conditions violate Young Thug’s Constitutional rights–in particular, the 8th and 14th Amendments.

The “Lifestyle” rappers attorneys filed a motion for bond on Tuesday (May 10), but have yet to receive a date. His lawyers had this to say:

“The failure to schedule a bond hearing for this innocent man, coupled with the inhumane and unconstitutional treatment of Mr. Williams, mandates that this Honorable Court grant bond until a hearing can be held.”

They’re asking that,

“Williams is not held in isolation and that he be given access to televisions, windows, showers and other surroundings that pretrial detainees typically receive.”

The judge has yet to rule on Thug’s motion.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari Announce That They Have "Lost Our Miracle Baby"

One month after Britney revealed that they were expecting their first child together, the couple posted a joint statement on Instagram confirming that they had lost their little one "early in the pregnancy."

"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy," Britney and Sam wrote on May 14. "This is a devastating time for any parent."

The pair acknowledged that they perhaps "should have waited to announce until we were further along" in their pregnancy journey.

However, they simply said that they were "overly excited to share the good news" with the rest of the world at the time.

Britney and Sam also revealed that they're leaning on one another for support during this time, writing, "Our love for each other is our strength."

The couple, who got engaged last September, shared that they still hope to "expand our beautiful family" together in the future.

Britney is already mom to two sons, Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, who she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

"We are grateful for all of your support," Britney and Sam concluded. "We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment."

After publishing their statement on Instagram, Sam commented on the post, writing, "We will have a miracle soon [heart emoji]."

But he wasn't alone. Sam was joined by a wave of love and support in the comments from fellow stars including Andy Cohen, Gabrielle Union, Christina Perri, who wrote, "So sorry."

Britney announced that she and her fiancé were expecting their first child together in an April 11 Instagram post. Following the pair's trip to Maui, Britney explained that she noticed she had gained weight. "So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well," she wrote. "I am having a baby."

A day after their pregnancy announcement, Sam told the BBC that he believed the pair should've hit the major relationship milestone a lot sooner.

"I mean this should have happened three years ago to be honest with you," Sam told the outlet. "When you're in a relationship with someone that you're truly in love with, you want to re-create, and so this is something I want to do."

Britney voiced similar thoughts during her legal battle to end her 13-year conservatorship last June, when she shared that she had an IUD "inside of myself right now so I don't get pregnant."

She added, "I deserve to have the same rights as anybody does by having a child, a family, any of those things."

In October, a source told E! News that Sam "one day wants kids of his own with Britney" and shared that he has a "good relationship" with Britney's sons.

The source shared, "Him being a part of her kid's life is a great step in showing Britney what kind of a dad he can be, how loyal and committed he is to being a family man."

Ice Cube will return to the big screen in new multi-picture production deal

Ice Cube is back on the comedy scene after inking a new multi-picture production deal with Luminosity Entertainment. The West Coast legend will also join 5120 Entertainment and SmokeyScreen to co-produce feature films and television series.

According to Deadline, first up on the roster is a new comedy titled Cube in My Head. Along with serving as the film’s co-producer, he will star in the movie. It follows a “hapless white guy” who questions what life would be like “if Ice Cube was inside my head.”

“Excited to be working with Elie and his team to make some great movies, especially this one,” said Cube in a statement about the production deal. “Who couldn’t use me in their head?”

This isn’t the first time the rapper turned actor turned businessman has taken his talents to the big screen. He first hit the acting scene as Doughboy in John Singleton’s 1991 cult classic, Boyz ‘N The Hood. From there, his career has since taken off to include films like culture favorite, Friday. He also serves as one of the leading founders of the BIG3 league which invites retired NBA players to play against one another in a 3-on-3 basketball league.

Tiffany Haddish Hints At Music Project With Beyoncé

Tiffany Haddish’s dreams may come true. There’s a rumored project involving her and Beyoncé.

The “Girls Trip” star appeared on “TMZ Live” Friday and dropped hints on an upcoming collab with Queen B. The comedian was very coy and bashful about the possibility of the whole thing, but apparently, there was enough between the lines to believe she’s about to be or already has been in the studio with her music idols.

Tiffany’s been making new music with other leading ladies, including Trina and Jada Pinkett Smith. According to the outlet, she is recruiting Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, and Lil Wayne for the project.

Haddish’s initial plan was only to use the music in movies and TV shows that she’s producing but not acting in. However, now she says the financials might cause her to go a different route and drop the music publicly first.

Officials urge Biden to implement Defense Production Act amid baby formula shortage

There’s a current baby formula shortage that has parents across the nation on edge. White House officials addressed the concerns during a meeting with Congress this week, noting that they are “absolutely” considering having President Joe Biden implement the Defense Production Act (DPA).

“I think the White House absolutely understands the severity and the urgency of the issues,” said Rep. Abigail Spanberger in an interview with CNN. “But until there’s more food on the shelves, I am not satisfied.”

While both she and White House Chief of Staff, Ron Klain, believe that the DPA might help, it might not be the solution to getting formula back on shelves quickly.

“We talked through the fact that the DPA, while potentially a really important thing for them to consider,” Spanberger said, “may not be as fast as just loading up planes and ensuring that baby food from the Netherlands or other European partners can get here quickly.”

Currently, US grocery stores report that infant formula across shelves is significantly lower than what was available a week ago. They are using Datasembly, a real-time data tracking agency, to determine exactly how much product is available.

Despite the shortage, the White House still isn’t considering this to be a crisis nor have they nailed down a timeline to get products back on the shelves. Instead they have created the HHS.gov website to help parents in their quest for infant formula.

“We wanted to make (information) readily available and accessible to people. But prior to that period of time, we had not seen, obviously, what we’ve seen over the last few days,” said Psaki.

According to White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield there is no specifics on when the shortage will end.

“I’m not going to stand here and tell your audience that I can give you a hard timeline that I can’t give you,” she shared. “We are being candid about moving as quickly as possible. And we are relentlessly focused on this.”

City of Miami to Honor Rapper Trina With Her Own Day — Will Also Receive The Keys To The City

May 14 will officially be “Trina Day” in Miami and the rapper will also be getting the keys to the city!

While speaking with reporter Alex Miranda from News 7 Miami ahead of her big day, Trina said she’s “in shock.” She added, “I’m just excited to be in this space, and to see how far I can help the community and my city grow. It means everything to me.” She went on to express how proud she is of herself, “Just watching me continue to evolve, seeing me grow as a person, as a woman…” The veteran rapper went on to share some advice for the new girls in the game. Trina said: “Sometimes they get lost in the sauce. You gotta really stay in and you gotta develop. You gotta make it a career. You have to love it. Like, you have to marry the game.”

The celebration for Trina Day is set to kick off this Saturday. It will have live music, food, games and so much more, on Northwest 15th Avenue in Liberty City, from 63rd to 65th streets.

What is the purpose to keys to the city?

Most people get the keys to the city for heroic actions or their career accomplishments. Ultimately, the key is ornamental, and the ceremony is the bigger element here. Basically, this is a way for a city to honor someone for their actions/contributions. Many consider it an honor nonetheless, even if the key doesn’t actually open anything.

Trina has come a long way

During the interview, Trina shared that she actually started out as a realtor: “That was always my dream, so once I got out of high school and stuff, I actually went and got my real estate license.” Before Trick Daddy asked to feature her on “NANN.” Trina said: “This is my first time, so I don’t know what to expect, and he’s just like, ‘Yeah, you just gotta get in there, talk that talk,’ so I was like, ‘OK.’” From there, she knew she changed hip-hop, something that’s “a good feeling” to her.

In 2022, she’s still booked and busy. recently, she dropped a song titled “Clap,” featuring Latto.

Gwen Stefani Announces Return to The Voice with Help from Blake Shelton and John Legend

Gwen Stefani says she's returning to The Voice! The musician, 52, announced that she's set to return to the NBC singing competition series as a coach in a TikTok video on Friday.

In the social media clip, Stefani sings along to "Grace Kelly" by Mika alongside husband Blake Shelton and costar John Legend. "#Duet this if you're going to be a Coach on #TheVoice this fall," reads the caption.

A fourth and final coach for the forthcoming season of The Voice has yet to be revealed.

Season 21 of the series was completed in December with Shelton, 45, and Legend, 43, appearing as coaches alongside Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande.

Stefani first joined The Voice as a coach for season 7 in 2014. After appearing as a part-time advisor the following season, she then became a coach once more for season 9.

The "Hollaback Girl" singer was then a part-time advisor again in season 10 and came back as a coach for season 12.

The mother of three then took a break from the reality show for a few seasons, later returning as a coach for seasons 17 and 19. During season 19, Stefani won the competition for the first time with contestant Carter Rubin.

During her time on The Voice, Stefani met and fell in love with Shelton. The pair later tied the knot in July 2021.

Last year, the singing competition series marked its tenth anniversary with a special titled "Road to Lives — 10th Anniversary Edition," where the show's coaches looked back on prior seasons.

Shelton, who's known for cracking jokes, surprised fans when he got sentimental while reflecting on one of his "greatest" moments: meeting Stefani.

"People ask me all the time, 'What's the greatest thing that has happened for you since you've been on The Voice?' That's a no-brainer, right? I met my fiancée here," he said at the time. "It's hard to resist Gwen Stefani. You know, here's this iconic rock star coming to be a coach on The Voice in a black minivan. That was cool to me."

The Voice returns to NBC for season 22 later this fall.

Chris Rock says he has his 'hearing back' after being 'punched in the face' by Will Smith at Oscars

Chris Rock says he got his "hearing back" after being slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars.

The comedian made the comment Thursday at the Royal Albert Hall in London on his "Ego Death" tour. He's otherwise said little about the shocking show moment which stemmed from a joke presenter Rock made about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair.

"I’m OK, if anybody was wondering," Rock said, according to The Independent, when he arrived on stage for his first of four shows at the venue. "I got most of my hearing back."

While the audience was hoping for him to go into more detail about the slap seen around the globe, he only offered, "People expect me to talk about the bulls***. I'm not going to talk about it right now. I’ll get to it eventually — on Netflix."

However, later in the show, he did comment on it once more — while talking about how easily offended people are these days.

"Anyone who says 'words hurt' has never been punched in the face," said Rock, who declined to press charges against Will.

Rock has previously quipped, also on stage, that he will only discuss the incident for money. His siblings and mother have all weighed in. Last week, when Dave Chappelle was assaulted on stage by a stranger, Rock, who performed that night, asked, "Was that Will Smith?!"

As all of you know by now, Best Actor nominee Will stormed the stage at the March 27 show and clocked Rock after he made a joke saying Jada could star in a G.I. Jane sequel. It was a reference to her shaved head, but Rock was unaware she has alopecia. After the slap, Will returned to his seat and screamed obscenities at Rock across the Dolby Theatre. Making the whole thing even more bizarre, shortly after, Will won the Best Actor Oscar for King Richard and received a standing ovation.

For his part, Rock carried on with his presenting duties while clearly shaken up by the whole thing, winning praise from his peers.

Will later apologized, saying he was defending his wife, but called his actions "inexcusable." He's since been banned from the Oscars — and other events hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — for 10 years, and some of his projects have reportedly been postponed.

Ernie Barnes’ Iconic ‘Sugar Shack’ (Marvin Gaye Album Cover) Sells for $15.3M!

*(CNN) — A painting that served as the cover for one of legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye‘s albums has sold at auction for almost $15.3 million

Ernie Barnes‘ joyous depiction of a frenetic scene in a dance hall, titled “The Sugar Shack,” sold to Bill Perkins, a hedge fund manager and entrepreneur, after 10 minutes of bidding by more than 22 bidders, confirmed Christie’s auction house.

According to Christie’s, the final sale price for “The Sugar Shack” was 27 times higher than the most expensive Barnes work to sell before it. It also blew past its estimated sale price of $150,000 to $200,000.

Barnes, who died in 2009, was born in North Carolina in 1938 and often drew upon his own experiences growing up in the American South during the Jim Crow era in his depictions of social moments and images of quotidian Black life.

In a 2002 interview, in which the Oakland Tribune described Barnes as the “Picasso of the Black art world,” the artist said he got the idea for “The Sugar Shack” from reflecting on his childhood and “not being able to go to a dance I wanted to go to when I was 11.”

“The Sugar Shack” has become a widely recognized image — thanks in part to its appearance on Gaye’s 1976 “I Want You” album and to its use across four seasons of the sitcom “Good Times,” which centered around the lives of a poor family in the Chicago housing projects.

Barnes was a professional American football player before becoming a painter and many of his artworks depicted sporting scenes, such as basketball and football games. Barnes told the Oakland Tribune in 2002: “I paint when ideas come and I see a vision of what I want from our common humanity.”

Barne’s work appeared on other album covers over the years including a 1984 cover for the The Crusaders and B.B. King’s 2000 album “Making Love is good for you.”

GA Sheriff Hit with Sexual Battery Charge – He is Accused of Groping Judge Hatchett

*The sheriff of Bleckley County (Georgia), Kris Coody, is facing charges of sexual battery after he was accused of groping the breast of former TV judge Glenda Hatchett earlier this year at a convention. Hatchett had been invited by former DeKalb Couty Sheriff Thomas Brown.

Brown spoke to WSB-TV about the incident, explaining that he turned away for a moment after introducing Hatchett and it was while focusing back that he witnessed it.

“As I turned to my left to focus back on the two of them, I saw his hand go down on her left breast,” Brown said.

“I grabbed his arm threw it off of her chest and basically said, ‘What do think you’re doing?’ and that’s basically where it ended.”

He added that the misconduct angered him. He said Coody was intoxicated. But he pointed out he was more concerned about Hatchett, for she was visibly shaken after that. She decided to press the charges because she feels it is right for the story to be told.

“She’s very passionate about telling her story at some point in time, if for no other reason, for the hundreds of ladies out there who may have been victims of some type of sexual assault but have not said anything because they are afraid to do so,” Brown further said to WSB.

After the charges, Coody released a statement stating it was “improper” on his part to touch Hatchett. He also made it clear he intends to comply with the charges while also hoping for a future opportunity to apologize for the incident.

Hatchet, 70, is better known for “Judge Hatchett,” a show she starred in and which ran from 2000 to 2008. She has since starred in a new courtroom show: “The Verdict with Judge Hatchett.”

Travis Scott Sued by Woman Claiming Miscarriage After Trampling At Astroworld Festival

*Travis Scott is being sued by yet another Astroworld attendee. An Ohio woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Travis, Live Nation and others. She says she attended the Astroworld festival back in November and was unfortunately trampled during a crowd surge. She claims to have suffered injuries so severe that they resulted in a miscarriage.

In documents obtained by @tmz_tv #ShanaziaWilliamson and her husband #JarawdOwens, claim that the defendants’, “failure to plan, design, manage, operate, staff, and supervise the event was a direct and proximate cause of Shanazia’s injuries and death of her and Jarawd’s unborn child.”

In addition to the miscarriage, Shanazia sustained injuries to her shoulder, back, chest, leg, stomach and other parts of her body. It remains unclear just how far along Shanazia was in her pregnancy.

Garcelle Beauvais Trusted Her Own Intuition At Bill Cosby’s Home

Actress Garcelle Beauvais may have escaped being one of Bill Cosby’s victims by trusting her instincts during a night at his home.

The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star detailed the encounter in her new book, “Love Me As I Am.” The memoir dives into many career moments for her, including her appearance on “The Cosby Show.” She revealed that when she was 18-years-old, Cosby invited the budding actress and model to his home, where she immediately felt uneasy. During her appearance on Bevy Smith’s SiriusXM show “Bevelations” to promote her book, Beauvais said she believed that other people were inside the brownstone with her and Cosby.

“There was something eerie about not knowing if there’s anybody else in the house and then having, you know, him asking me if I wanna drink, and I wasn’t a drinker. So it was all those things,” Beauvais said to Smith. She went on to reveal that her intuition became too strong, and she knew she needed to “get out of there” immediately, which she did.

For years, dozens of women came forward with accusations of sexual abuse against Cosby. In September 2018, he was sentenced to prison and was released in June 2021 on a technicality.

Two Iowa Teens To Be Tried As Adults After Allegedly Murdering Their Spanish Teacher

Two teenagers in Iowa will be tried as adults in the killing of their Spanish teacher.

Willard Miller,16, and Jeremy Goodale, 17, have been charged as adults with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder after they killed their 66-year-old Spanish teacher Nohema Graber. According to court documents, the two teens – who attended Fairfield High School, stalked and took note of Graber’s daily schedule.

During her daily walk, the teens attacked her, dragged her to the woods, and beat her with a baseball bat, NBC News reports, per court documents. Her body was found on November 3 in Chautauqua Park in Fairfield “concealed under a tarp, wheelbarrow, and railroad ties.”

Both have pleaded not guilty, and both attempted to have their cases moved to juvenile court. NBC News reports that their requests were denied. Both of the teens were 16 at the time of the incident.

“Such statements support a conclusion that Defendant has the potential for rehabilitation. However, the juvenile court simply has too little time to rehabilitate the Defendant for a crime of such magnitude and of the nature described in the minutes of testimony,” said District Judge Shawn Showers on Wednesday in his ruling, reports NBC affiliate WHO of Des Moines.

There are no details about the two teens’ legal teams.

Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale are set to be tried separately in August and in November.
