#FASHIONFILES: Kim Kardashian Covers i-D Magazine No 366 Winter 2021

Kim Kardashian [West] appears under her married name in i-D’s unplanned ‘Out of the Blue’ issue, no. 366 Winter 2021, special thanks to Tiffany & Co.

America's most famous icon speaks to playwright Jeremy O. Harris about Skims, training as a lawyer and watching anime with her kids.

The silhouette said everything. New York City, the 2021 Met Gala, the second Monday in September. Celebrities ascended the cream carpet stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The theme this year was “American Independence”. Interpretations were, as always, a little loose; a frivolous free-for-all for the starriest event of the season. But one woman arrived a little late to the party. She was wearing a black skin-tight Balenciaga bodysuit, totally shielding her from head to toe. Only her inimitable silhouette and ponytail on show. Everyone watching immediately knew who she was.

Kim Kardashian West – businesswoman, lawyer, designer, inventor of internet influence – is one of the few contemporary figures America will remember in a century’s time. When she walked onto the Met Gala carpet that night, dressed not in denim or a riff on the Star-spangled Banger, but as a stark, blank, absence of herself, it was a commentary on the country, fame, and the wild and singular way the two coalesce in the 21st century.

She is in many ways as synonymous with the United States as the faces etched into Mount Rushmore, as Coca Cola or Stars and Stripes. Ask anyone below the age of forty to name a famous American, and chances are Kim will be one of the first that comes to mind.

Kim Kardashian wearing a black vest top, black maxi skirt, a chain necklace and diamond earrings and her hair in a braid hanging off her shoulder.

So how did a woman, once famous for being the assistant of a hotel heiress supersede the expectations of her watchful public and come out on top, become not only a cultural commodity, but a powerful financial one, too?

It was once easy to frame Kim as a fluke in the world of celebrity. Back in the mid-noughties, few who came before her had launched a veritable cultural footprint off the back of being famous for fame’s sake. But Kim, as she grew, gave us a reason to see her as not just a famous icon. She justified her presence by opening the doors to the life of her and her family for fourteen years in the form of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Her siblings soon followed in rising notoriety, and collectively they were staples of tabloid culture, who found ways of making their name mean more than the newsprint they so often appeared in.

Today, she’s the CEO of KKW Fragrance and the shapewear company Skims, she’s increasingly making moves into the legal world too. She has lobbied for the likes of Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother sentenced to life imprisonment for her non-violent involvement in a drug trafficking organisation. She met Donald Trump in the White House to discuss the case in 2018, and Johnson was finally released. 2021 brought realisation for Kim, new beginnings. It will be remembered as the year she parted ways from Kanye West (though the two’s creative synergy remains intact), launched a collaboration between Skims and luxury juggernaut Fendi, and broke the $1 billion net worth barrier. Not only that, but the reality show that gave us a varnished look into the art of her celebrity in the first place drew to an emotional close, drawing a line under that chapter of her life.

A new show about her life is shooting right now though, rumoured to hone in on the Kardashian sisters specifically, and the semantics of Kim’s new life as a trainee lawyer. In some ways, it feels like a skin-shed moment. Whatever decisions she’s making behind the scenes, they’re working.

NeNe Leakes is enjoying the holiday season with her new love.

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum shared snippets of a pre-Christmas date night with her fashion designer boyfriend Nyonisela Sioh on her Instagram Story on Thursday.

“Almost Christmas Eve. Having dinner with….’ Leakes, 54, said in the video before panning the camera to Sioh.

Other clips included the pair enjoying lobster and cocktails and Leakes playfully poking her tongue out.

Their holiday date comes one week after confirming their relationship.

The couple was first spotted together when he accompanied Leakes to her surprise 54th birthday party earlier this month.

This is Leakes’ first relationship since losing her husband Gregg to colon cancer last September. He was 66.

Gregg was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2018, which went into remission after he did six months of chemotherapy. Unfortunately by June, his cancer had returned.

Leakes assured fans that her late husband gave his blessing and wanted her to date and be happy with her life.

“I will love Gregg forever & ever! Grieving is hard! Even harder & depressing alone,” she told The Shade Room. “Gregg and I had a very tearful conversation before his passing. His words to me were ‘be happy, keep smiling and he who finds you has found a good one.’”

Leakes and Gregg got married in 1997, divorced in 2011 and remarried in 2013. They shared one child together, a 22-year-old son named Brentt.

Shortly before his father’s death, Brentt shared an emotional message on Instagram, saying, “Spend time with your loved ones every chance you get. Time is so…valuable dog. I can’t express it. I’m learning the hard way watching my dad fight every day. Please go create memories with ya people.”

Leakes also has a son, Bryson, 31, with former boyfriend Calvin Bryant, whom Leakes helped raise..

#HipHopNews: Drake Hands Out Stacks Of Christmas Cash To Unsuspecting Canadians

Drake was evidently in the holiday spirit over Christmas weekend and wanted to spread some of his wealth around his hometown of Toronto.

On Saturday (December 25), a video of the 6 God handing out a giant stack of Canadian cash from the back of a Mercedes Maybach to unsuspecting city goers started making the online rounds.

“Oh my god, this is crazy,” a woman shouts in the background, while the man receiving the random act of kindness replies, “Thank you, bro. I appreciate it guys, take care.” Drake says back, “You already know.”

The caption read, “@Champagnepapi giving away racks for Christmas. Life’s fucking unreal man. Legend of the city.”

Like anybody else, Drake did his best to enjoy Christmas this year despite the restrictiveness of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Christmas Day, he uploaded a video of himself playing with his 4-year-old son Adonis as he laughed uncontrollably laughing.

“I’m gonna get up, I’m gonna out of this,” Drake said. He added in the caption, “Merry Christmas From The Gang.” Many of Drake’s famous friends hopped in the comment section to share their thoughts on the 30-second clip. Lil Kim wrote, “Awww so cute !” and Chance The Rapper added a single red heart emoji.

Although the world didn’t find out about Adonis until Pusha T dropped the 2018 diss track “The Story of Adidon,” Drake has since embraced his new role as a father. During a 2020 interview with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Radio, he fantasized about traveling the world with his first born.

“I want to be able to go places with my son and share memories with my son,” he said at the time. “I don’t want to feel like just because of a life choice I made to be a ‘celebrity’ that I got to make everybody live under this blanket… I just wanted to free myself of that.”

Legendary Motown singer Wanda Young dead at 78

Wanda Young, singer in the Motown doo-wop girl group The Marvelettes, died earlier this month outside of Detroit.

Young, 78, died Dec. 15 of complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, her daughter Meta Ventress told The New York Times Saturday.

Young replaced another singer in the Michigan group when Motown head Berry Gordy signed the band in 1961. A month later, The Marvelettes’ “Please Mr. Postman” became the first song on the young label to reach the top of the charts.

The group followed the hit with popular songs like “My Baby Must Be A Magician” and “Don’t Mess With Bill,” which both featured Young providing lead vocals.

The frequent collaborator of Smokey Robinson is survived by three children; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; four sisters and four brothers.

Wanda Young, who replaced another singer in the Marvelettes group, was 78-years-old when she passed away on December 15, 2021.

Jordyn Woods Gets New Car From Boyfriend Karl-Anthony Towns During Second Christmas Apart

Karl-Anthony Towns went all out for Christmas! Despite being thousands of miles away, Jordyn Woods woke up on Christmas morning (Saturday, December 25) to a huge surprise from the 26-year-old Minnesota Timberwolves basketball player.

On Instagram, Jordyn, 24, showed off the brand new Porsche car and Louis Vuitton coat she received from Karl for Christmas.

“WTF!! I thought last night was enough and then I woke up to this!! My forever Santa!! I love you @karltowns !! I’m speechless!! You never fail to make me feel like a queen! WTF THE BROWN we talked about!?!? With the rose gold too!?!? ðŸ˜©❤️” Jordyn wrote along with a bunch of photos of herself posing with her new car.

Jordyn then went on reveal that because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, she and Karl weren’t able to celebrate Christmas together for the second year in a row.

“I’m so sad this is the second year in a row that covid prevented us from being together on Christmas but your presence was felt. ðŸ˜” Jordyn added.

#BoxOfficeNews: ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Sing 2’ Top Christmas, ‘Matrix’ and ‘King’s Man’ Falls Short!

Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home crushed it at the Christmas box office, earning $138.6 million from 4,336 theaters in North America for the long five-day holiday to finish Sunday with $467.3 million domestically and more than $1 billion worldwide.

No Way Home has shattered numerous records since opening last weekend and is the first film of the pandemic era to hurtle past the $1 billion threshold at the worldwide box office.

It also scored the third-best Christmas Day gross of all time ($31.7 million) in North America for a weekend gross of $81.5 million. The 10-day domestic total of $467.3 is the second-best showing ever for the month of December and the third-best for any superhero film, according to Sony.

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Becomes Sony's Top-Grossing Pic of All Time at U.S. Box Office

Overseas, the international total through Sunday is $587.1 million from international — without China. The U.K. leads with nearly $69 million despite a surge in COVID-19 cases due to the new variant omicron.

The only other Hollywood holiday event pic to hold its tune over the long holiday corridor (Wednesday-Sunday) was Universal and Illumination’s Sing 2.

Sing 2, buoyed by an A+ CinemaScore and support from younger kids, posted a five-day opening of $41 million from 3,892 locations and a three-day gross of $23.7 million, in line with expectations. The $41 million total includes $1.6 million in Thanksgiving previews.

The Matrix Resurrections and The King’s Man both disappointed in their openings as males largely stuck with Spidey. The two films, along with Sing 2, launched on Wednesday.

From Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow, Matrix Resurrections had trouble getting to $22.5 million. Warners and Village Roadshow had been counting on at least $40 million for the Wednesday-Sunday stretch. Audiences, however, didn’t respond especially well between poor exit scores and a B- CinemaScore. The movie’s three-day tally was $12 million.

The Matrix reboot, playing in 3,552 theaters, opened simultaneously on HBO Max, likely dampening its box office.

20th Century and Disney’s King’s Man also came in well behind expectations with an estimated five-day debut of $10 million from 3,180 sites, including $6.4 million for the three-day weekend.

Both King’s Man and Matrix needed to make a strong showing among older male moviegoers, but older consumers continue to stay away from theaters in larger numbers because of concerns over COVID-19.

King’s Man almost lost the weekend itself to American Underdog, a Christian sports film about NFL quarterback Kurt Warner that was released on Christmas Day by Lionsgate and the Erwin brothers.

American Underdog, which played best in the Midwest and South, posted a stellar two-day gross of $6.2 million from 2,813 cinemas. Like Sing 2 — and No Way Home — it received a coveted A+ CinemaScore.

A Journal for Jordan, directed by Denzel Washington, also opened in select theaters on Christmas Day, earning an estimated $2.4 million from 1,250 theaters for the two days.

At the specialty box office, Paul Thomas Anderson’s hit specialty pic Licorice Pizza expanded on Dec. 25 into 786 runs, earning a promising $2.3 million for the short weekend.

Sony Pictures Classics’ Parallel Mothers, opening on Dec. 24 in three theaters, secured a strong location average of $13,692.

The corridor between Christmas and New Year’s is historically a time when multiple films can prosper. Distributors large and small are banking on building grosses throughout the week, considering that many adults are off of work and kids are out of school.

While Christmas weekend was certainly better than last year, moviegoing still lagged compared to pre-pandemic times as worries over omicron grow. Domestic revenue for the Wednesday-Sunday stretch is expected to come in at around $249.2 million, a 28 percent dip from 2019.

GROSS! Man Charged With Eating Grindr Date’s Genitals On Christmas Eve

A Michigan man who confessed to killing his Grindr date and eating his genitals is expected to appear in court early next year.

Last year, Mark Latunski confessed to the 2019 killing of 25-year-old Kevin Bacon, a man he met on the dating app Grindr on Christmas Eve. After their meet-up, Latunski slit Bacon’s throat and hanged his body from the basement ceiling then ate his genitals at his home in Bennington Township. Bacon was found on December 28 of that year in the basement and court documents state the victim was well aware of Latunski’s violent fetishes. Latunski was arraigned on Dec. 30 for murder and disinterment/mutilation of a dead body.

The documents also state Latunski would often stop taking medication for his mental health condition and his estranged husband said he acted as nothing happened after the murder.

According to the New York Post, Bacon told his roommate Michelle Myers that he was meeting up with Latunski for a quick hookup to avoid a family gathering. He also turned down plans to attend a game night with Myers and their friends.

Nearly $100B Stolen in Pandemic Relief Funds Says Secret Service

*While some of y’all are hoping for another pandemic shutdown to get those stimulus checks and unemployment benefits poppin’ again, the Secret Service is running them fraud numbers and they’re working hard to get them coins back!

According to @apnews, nearly $100 billion has been stolen from COVID-19 relief programs since the start of the pandemic. The Secret Service announced that the Department of Labor and Small Business Administration have been collecting data from programs set up to help small businesses and people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and found that 3% of the $3.4 trillion dispersed was fraudulent.

The Labor Department reported that most of the stolen funds come from unemployment fraud, with about $87 billion being paid to—click the link in our bio to read more!

The Justice Department said last week that its fraud section had prosecuted over 150 defendants in more than 95 criminal cases and had seized over $75 million in cash proceeds derived from fraudulently obtained Paycheck Protection Program funds, as well as numerous real estate properties and luxury items purchased with the proceeds.

One of the best-known programs created through the March 2020 CARES Act, PPP offered low-interest, forgivable loans to small businesses struggling to meet payroll and other expenses during pandemic-related shutdowns.

“Can we stop fraud? Will we? No, but I think we can definitely prosecute those that need to be prosecuted and we can do our best to recover as much fraudulent pandemic funds that we can,” said Roy Dotson, who is the Secret Service’s assistant special agent in charge of the agency’s field office in Jacksonville, Florida.

Frank Ocean returns with new music on Christmas Day blonded RADIO show

Frank Ocean recorded his first Blonded RADIO episode in two years on Saturday (Dec. 25), gifting fans with some new material for Christmas. The half hour show, dubbed “blonded xmas,” features a previously recorded conversation between Ocean, whose brother Ryan Moore died last year, and Dutch motivational speaker Wim “Iceman” Hof about dealing with grief.

“Me and @iceman_hof had a conversation some time ago when I was in the earlier stages of grief and I remember marveling afterwards at how his energy blasted through the phone,” Ocean revealed on his Instagram Stories. “So much vim in this Wim. We spoke for a while about his work, the purpose of grief, and how going into the cold water changed his life. It reminded me of conversations in the studio with players I know. Freewheeling, psychedelic, emotionally charged, intelligent and generous.”

“I enjoyed listening to him, so in this edit I just let him speak uninterrupted,” Ocean added. “Me, @coryhenry and @dylanpatricewiggins played some sounds underneath to heighten the feeling. I added some writing at the end that I did a single take of w Cory in the summer of 2020. I came back and added a few words and parts over the top of that take more recently. Felt like it fit the wabi sabi of Wim’s words. Merry Xmas everybody.”

Fans who’ve missed the reclusive singer will be excited to know Ocean freestyles over a piano for close to nine minutes during the Apple Music 1 show. “I could be great, I’m on my way / If I wanna escape, I can escape,” he repeatedly raps.

The last time we heard Frank on blonded Radio was Christmas Eve 2019. In that episode, also titled “blonded Xmas,” Ocean put together an eclectic playlist featuring Mariah Carey, Solange, the Dungeon Family, George Harrison, and The Miracles.

Boosie Claims R. Kelly Accusers “Exaggerated” Their Accusations; Says R. Kelly “Just Likes Young B*tches”

Chile, Boosie is back at it again, stirring the pot with another controversial statement. The Louisiana native is now in the hot seat after saying R.Kelly’s accusers were “exaggerating” their stories.

Boosie recently sat with Vlad, sharing his opinions on R.Kelly’s sexual abuse accusations. When asked about his viewpoint on Kelly being convicted, Boosie basically downplayed the situation and said R.Kelly likes “young b*tches.”

“This is how I feel about that. Everything was pushed to another level. You know, I just feel like R. Kelly like the young b*tches. All that sh*t, seducing and kidnapping and all this sh*t in somebody house, if you leave a b*tch at the house and you go on tour for two weeks and she don’t go nowhere, that b*tch ain’t been kidnapped. She waiting on daddy to come home. You know, a b*tch ain’t been kidnapped. B*tch ain’t been sexualized if she been in the bed with three, four women.”

Boosie continues by saying the women were not taken advantage of by R.Kelly and were willing to be with him.

“You know, she hasn’t been taken advantage of, because she is willing. She is willing. He just f*cked up on the age part…if he did it. I’m not saying he’s guilty or if he did do it, it’s because of the age. The rest of that sh*t, they exaggerating, bro.”

Demi Lovato shows off shaved head: '#FreshStart'

Demi Lovato is going into 2022 with a bold new look. Most recently seen with a cropped, mullet-inspired 'do, the pop star has shaved their head, debuting the buzzcut style on Instagram over the holiday weekend.

Lovato showed off their makeover in a series of shots, captioning the post "#FreshStart."

The singer's fans wasted no time praising the "fierce AF" style

"I'm so here for this bald era," read one comment, while several hailed the buzzcut as "stunning" and "super-cute."

"This is the art of starting over," another fan gushed.

"A face that can pull off any hair. We love to see it," another commenter wrote.

The 29-year-old's hair update isn't entirely unexpected. Speaking to Glamour in March, the nonbinary star expressed their urge to shave their head, but noted how fans have responded to edgy makeovers in the past.

"My fans react when I color my hair. If they didn't like it, I saw it," Lovato said. "It reignited that fear inside of me of being who I really am."

The haircut isn't the only "fresh start" Lovato is making. The singer recently announced that they are no longer "California sober," in which they continued to drink and use marijuana after their near-fatal 2018 overdose. Though Lovato initially defended the moderate approach, they shared earlier this month that "sober sober is the only way to be."

Meghan Markle Receives Public Apology After Lawsuit Victory

Meghan Markle has received a public apology after a protracted court battle with the publishers of the Mail on Sunday.

The publication printed a front-page mea culpa to the Duchess of Sussex, 40, as required by multiple rulings that the Mail on Sunday and the MailOnline website breached Markle's privacy in February 2019 by printing elements of a five-page letter she wrote to her father shortly after her royal wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

"The Duchess of Sussex wins her legal case for copyright infringement against Associated Newspapers for articles published in The Mail on Sunday and posted on Mail Online," Sunday's front page notice reads.

"Following a hearing on 19-20 January, 2021, and a further hearing on 5 May, 2021, the Court has given judgment for the Duchess of Sussex on her claim for copyright infringement. The Court found that Associated Newspapers infringed her copyright by publishing extracts of her handwritten letter to her father in The Mail on Sunday and on Mail Online. Financial remedies have been agreed," the remainder of the public apology reads on page 3.

On February 11, Judge Mark Warby of the High Court in London ordered The Mail on Sunday to couple the apology with a longer "notice" inside the newspaper under the headline, "The Duchess of Sussex," which explicitly states that the court found "Associated Newspapers infringed her [Meghan's] copyright by publishing extracts of her handwritten letter to her father in The Mail on Sunday and in Mail Online."

He also ordered that the apology appear on the homepage of MailOnline "for a period of one week" and include a hyperlink to the official judgment and summary under the wording, "The full judgment and the Court's summary of it can be found here."

Despite a legal challenge from the publisher, Judge Warby's decision in the privacy and copyright infringement case was upheld on December 2 by the Court of Appeal in London

A Missouri woman was arrested after being accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death with a sword on Christmas Eve.

Brittany Wilson, 32, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Cape Girardeau Police responded to a 911 call around 11:05 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The caller told dispatchers that she had fatally stabbed her boyfriend with a sword.

When officers arrived, Wilson was standing outside the house holding the sword. Police found Harrison Stephen Foster, 34, inside a bedroom in the home with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

She stabbed Foster three times before calling the police.
