#MusicNews: Bruce Springsteen Sells His Masters, Publishing Catalog to Sony for $500 Million

Bruce Springsteen has sold the masters of his entire catalog to Sony Music and the coinciding music publishing rights to Sony Music Publishing in a combined deal of around $500 million, Billboard reports. Springsteen’s catalog includes over 300 songs, 20 studio albums, 23 live LPs, 7 EPs, and more.

For his entire 50-year-long career, Springsteen has released his albums through Sony imprint Columbia Records. He was granted ownership of his earlier records in the late 1980s and 1990s as an incentive to re-sign with the label. Last month, Springsteen was in negotiations with Sony to sell his album catalog while he also simultaneously shopped around his publishing catalog, which was under Universal Music Publishing Group, according to Billboard.

This deal arrives one year after Universal Music Publishing Group purchased Bob Dylan’s extensive publishing catalog for more than $300 million. In 2019, the master rights to Taylor Swift’s first six albums were sold for over $300 million as well.

Springsteen’s most recent studio album, Letter to You, came out in October 2020. He also recently reissued The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts last month.

#HipHopNews: Drake’s Set Removed From Kanye West Amazon Prime Concert Edit

Drake’s performance with Kanye West was truly one night only. The historic “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert took place last Thursday (Dec. 9) at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, but fans were surprised to find Drizzy’s set missing from the Amazon Prime Video version.

According to Variety, the “Way 2 Sexy” rapper is almost entirely absent from the edit of the show that is now on the streaming platform.

The current edit shows Drake and Ye entering down the steps of the Coliseum and ends with them performing their collaboration “Forever” before walking off stage together. However, Drake’s entire 12-song set in the middle of the show has been removed, yet he is still prominently featured in the graphics accompanying the video.

Fans shared their own theories, including renewed tension between the two. But a more plausible theory is that Drake only signed off on having his solo performance streamed live and not in perpetuity. He may also have restrictions in place that limit his exposure on certain streaming services.

During the live broadcast, Drake opened his solo set with a cover of Ye’s “24” and performed several songs off Certified Lover Boy, including “Wants and Needs,” “IMY2,” “Girls Want Girls,” and “Way 2 Sexy.” He also delivered hits like “Life Is Good” and “God’s Plan.”

Despite Drake’s disappearance, the concert did receive some audio improvements from producer Mike Dean, who said he gave the show a “new mix,” which has been well received by fans.

The Remaining Missionaries Kidnapped In Haiti By Gang Have Been Released

A Haitian gang has released the remaining 12 hostages it abducted more than two months ago, the Ohio-based religious group they work with announced Thursday.

"We glorify God for answered prayer—the remaining twelve hostages are FREE! Join us in praising God that all seventeen of our loved ones are now safe," Christian Aid Ministries said in a statement. "Thank you for your fervent prayers throughout the past two months. We hope to provide more information as we are able."

Haiti National Police Spokesman Gary Desrosiers also confirmed to NBC News that the hostages had been found safe, but would not say where they had been taken.

Seventeen people working with the group were kidnapped in October by the 400 Mawozo gang, which controls the Ganthier commune in the suburb of Port-au-Prince where the missionaries were taken.

Christian Aid Ministries had previously said that those who were kidnapped were 16 U.S citizens and one Canadian citizen — six men, six women, and five children.

The missionaries were returning from an orphanage, an hour and a half from Christian Aid Ministries Haiti base and often visited by their staff, when they were taken.

The group, based in Millersburg, Ohio, repeatedly called for supporters to fast and pray for the safe release of the hostages, at one point earlier this month encouraging Christians to fast for three days. itian officials said the group’s leader was demanding $1 million per hostage, totaling $17 million. In November, two of the missionaries were released, and another three were freed earlier this month.

Haiti has faced a series of disasters over the years, and the last several months have been met with renewed hardships. President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in July, and a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit in August.

And on Monday, a truck carrying gasoline exploded in northern Haiti, killing at least 75 people and injuring dozens of others. The explosion occurred as Haiti struggles with a severe shortage of fuel and spiraling gas prices that recently forced hospitals to turn away patients, temporarily shut down schools and businesses.

Nick Cannon Ruled Out Chemotherapy To Treat 5-Month-Old Son’s Brain Cancer: I Didn’t Want Him To Suffer

Nick Cannon and the mother of his deceased infant son had a tough call to make in regards to the infant’s condition.

Entertainment mogul Nick Cannon opened up a bit more about the death of his 5-mont-old son Zen Cannon. Baby Zen succumbed to brain cancer earlier this month. Nick told a source that he and Zen’s mother, Alyssa Scott, decided against chemotherapy and other treatments because they wanted the infant to be comfortable in his last days.

Of their difficult decision, Nick said:

“We started asking, ‘Is there a way to prevent this? If not, how long do we have? The conversations quickly turned to, ‘How can we give him the best life for the time that he does have?’?It could be weeks, it could be months, it could be years. We were having quality-of-life conversations. We could have had that existence where he would’ve had to live in the hospital, hooked up to machines, for the rest of the time.”

He thought about his own experiences with chemotherapy, which he uses to treat his lupus:

“From someone who’s had to deal with chemotherapy before, I know that pain. To see that happen to a 2-month-old, I didn’t want that. I didn’t want him to suffer.”

When Zen was just 2-months-old, Nick and Alyssa scheduled a doctor’s appointment after noticing that his breathing was stuffy. After a series of tests, he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Shortly after the diagnosis, Zen had a shunt placed in his skull to drain some fluid. Sadly, the brain tumors would continue to rapidly increase in size.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, his condition worsened. On Dec. 5, Zen passed away at only 5-months-old. He’d just spent a peaceful trip to the beach with his parents.

Nick managed to host his self-titled talk show two days after his son’s untimely passing. Trying his absolute best to keep the tears from rolling, he announced that he’d lost Zen and explained the circumstances of his death.

Social Media and Jennifer Lopez is ‘Pissed’ About Ben Affleck Dissing Jennifer Garner

Ben Affleck made headlines when he said he felt “trapped” in his marriage to Jennifer Garner and that he wouldn’t have gotten sober had he stayed.

While discussing his divorce from Jennifer Garner during an interview on “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday, Affleck seemed to pin his struggles with sobriety on his ex.

“Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped,” the star said. “I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ And what I did was drank a bottle of Scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

Sources also tell us that Lopez isn’t happy with the chat.

“[Lopez] is pissed,” said our source. “She is getting pulled into this because she is dating him. She doesn’t want to be dragged into this.”

The source added, “She has met Jennifer Garner. She is trying to get to know her and Ben’s kids.” The source said of Affleck, “It’s reckless and cavalier of him.”

But, another told us, “This is simply not true and the focus is on the children.”

Affleck and Garner were married from 2005 to 2015 and share kids Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9.

Lopez shares twins Max and Emme, 13, with ex-husband singer Marc Anthony.

Garner, Affleck and Lopez all went trick-or-treating together this past Halloween with their respective children.

Lopez’s kids and Affleck’s kids have also all spent time together: They reportedly went to Disney’s Magic Castle and saw “Hamilton” in Los Angeles in August. They all also participated in a food drive in November.

Affleck also said of Garner during the recent interview, “We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer.” And, “I knew she was a good mom.”

Affleck has been to rehab multiple times and has been open with his struggles with sobriety. In 2018, three years after the end of their marriage, Garner was photographed driving him to rehab after reportedly staging an intervention.

Both Lopez and Affleck’s reps did not respond to requests for comment.

Jeff Garlin Exits 'The Goldbergs' Immediately Following HR Investigation Over Unprofessional Behavior

Jeff Garlin has left The Goldbergs. The 59-year-old actor who plays Murray Goldberg on the long-running ABC show has exited the series following an internal HR investigation, according to reports from Deadline.

The news comes just a few weeks after he was accused of unprofessional behavior on the set of the comedy show.

It was alleged that Jeff contributed to a demeaning work culture and “engaged in a pattern of verbal and physical conduct on set that made people uncomfortable.”

One source told Vanity Fair in an op-ed that Jeff had gotten “away with it because he would call himself out for it—saying he was a big teddy bear, saying things like, ‘Oh you know me, just a big bowl of mush, I’m a hugger. I just love you.’”

Jeff also responded to an allegation of a incident between him and a stand-in “that was both physical and verbal.” He denies that anything physical occurred and says he’s known both the stand-in and his wife for years.

Deadline is reporting that a mutual agreement was reached today (December 15) with Jeff not returning to the show, and his exit is effective immediately.

Reps for Sony Pictures Television, which produces the comedy, had no comment.

The Goldbergs lost another one of its’ cast members earlier this year, as George Segal, who played Pops, unexpectedly passed away.

Chadwick Boseman’s Brother Says Late Actor Would Want Role Of T’challa Recast

It’s been over a year since we lost Chadwick Boseman. Following his death, Disney announced that they would not be recasting the role of Black Panther. Instead, Marvel Studio’s President, Kevin Fiege, said that the next installment would “continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.” Boseman’s brother Derrick recently spoke on the recasting, saying that the late actor would want his iconic role to be recast and continued.

Derrick told TMZ that Chadwick never expressed his wishes for the character before his untimely death. However, he thinks his brother would agree to the recasting of T’Challa. He explained how the character is bigger than just one person and Chadwick “knew the power of his character, and the positive influence it carries.” He also noted how the character had a huge impact on the Black youth and that killing off a character like T’Challa somewhat deprives kids of a role model.

However, Derrick is not the only one who believes that the role should be recast. Many fans have called for the recasting of T’Challa amid reports of Letitia Wright’s uncertain future with the MCU due to her unwillingness to follow vaccine protocols. Some have even started a petition to have the role recast.

“Help us reach our new goal of 45K signatures. Chadwick worked far too hard to bring King T’Challa to LIFE for @MarvelStudios to kill him off prematurely. Let’s make both Chadwick & T’Challa the beginning of a legend and not the end of one. #RecastTChalla” the Tweet reads.

Tristan Thompson Admits To Having Sexual Relationship With Maralee Nichols, Lasted Months

According to Enews, In a new legal statement, Tristan Thompson revealed he had a “consensual casual” sexual romance with Maralee Nichols. As we previously reported she recently gave birth to a baby she claims is his third child.

On Tuesday, Dec 14th, The Daily Mail released court statements which were future-dated for Dec 16 which holds a confession from the NBA star.

According to the documents, Thompson stated, “[Nichols] told me that she had been involved with other athletes and understood the limitations of our relationship; to-wit, that we might see each other on a sporadic basis for consensual casual sex only. From December 2020 through March 2021, we saw each other on such a basis.”

“Contrary to [Nichols’] many inferences in her declaration, we did not have a serious ongoing relationship,” Thompson’s declaration said. “We saw each other sporadically between December 2020 and March 13, 2021 and did not have sexual intercourse in California during that time.”

Nichols’s baby boy was born on December 1, the documents report that the child was conceived when the two had sex for his 30th birthday that he celebrated in Houston. That is the city she used to live in before she moved to California.

Nichols or Thompson lawyers have not responded to his statement yet.

‘The Super Bowl Is Coming’: Las Vegas Awarded 2024 Game

IRVING, Texas — When the Raiders set out on their journey to Las Vegas six years ago, their owner, Mark Davis, made a pledge to state and city leaders and residents that opening their arms to his team meant so much more than just welcoming a professional football team to the region.

“You’re getting the power and the assets of the entire National Football League,” Davis remembers saying.

He decisively delivered on that pledge Wednesday when the NFL’s 32 owners voted unanimously to award Super Bowl LVIII to Las Vegas.

The game is scheduled to be played on Feb. 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium. The decision was first reported Monday by the Review-Journal.

A beaming Davis proudly accepted the bid at the NFL’s winter meetings. “I’m absolutely thrilled,” he said.

By his side was Steve Hill, the CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

“It is really a pleasure to be here today and to be a part of this announcement,” said Hill, who estimates the Super Bowl will generate $500 million for the region and an additional $70 million in local and state tax revenue.

Among those Davis acknowledged was the late Sheldon Adelson, the founder of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., whose original partnership with the Raiders helped kick-start their relocation to Las Vegas. That effort to bring the NFL to Las Vegas and build a stadium that would attract major events in the sports and entertainment worlds culminated with Wednesday’s announcement.

“It’s a big day for the Raiders. It’s a big day for the city of Las Vegas,” Davis said. “I think it’s a marriage made in heaven. We are just really, really excited.”

As is the NFL, which has quickly embraced Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium as a destination market and venue capable of hosting the biggest events on the league’s annual calendar. That includes the Pro Bowl, which is coming to Las Vegas in February, and the NFL draft, which arrives in April.

“Never before has a city had the Pro Bowl, the draft and then the Super Bowl. I think that points to a level of confidence from the owners in Las Vegas as a great destination,” said Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s executive vice president for club business & league events. “A place where fans and partners want to congregate and just a great stage for some of our biggest assets.”

As Davis pointed out, the rapid trust Las Vegas has earned from the NFL is a testament to the region’s ability to pull off big-time events. The Raiders were approved to relocate from Oakland to Las Vegas in 2017. Construction began on Allegiant Stadium soon after.

The $1.9 billion stadium opened in 2020 and already has emerged as one of the bright new lights of the NFL. Hence the unanimous approval by owners to stage its biggest event in Las Vegas.

“For them to put the confidence in us this soon, to give us the Pro Bowl, the draft and I think the most valuable asset not only in the National Football League but maybe the world, this soon, is just confirmation of what we’ve done,” Davis said.

Much like the NHL, which in adding the Golden Knights in 2015 took a chance on the viability of Las Vegas as a sports town while managing its well-known gaming element, the NFL did likewise with the Raiders.

“The Super Bowl isn’t just a day, it’s a whole series of events leading up to it,” Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said at a news conference about the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium. “I look forward to all of the visitors that will be coming to Las Vegas and the jobs that a Super Bowl will bring.”

Super Bowl LVIII was originally scheduled to be played in New Orleans on Feb. 4, 2024. But before this season, the NFL added a 17th game and pushed its season forward by one week — including its season-ending championship game — creating a conflict with Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. As a result, New Orleans gave up hosting duties in 2024 and was awarded Super Bowl LIX in 2025.

That created an opportunity for Las Vegas, the NFL’s newest market and home to Allegiant Stadium.

The already established relationship between the league and city leaders made for a seamless process as the NFL quickly turned to Las Vegas as a replacement site. Hill said on Wednesday the league immediately reached out to Las Vegas about its willingness to step up as a host. From that moment, he said Las Vegas began the process of convincing the NFL it was worthy of selection.

“It feels like we’ve been dancing with each other for a while,” O’Reilly said. “Obviously, the pandemic disrupted the timing of our first Pro Bowl year and the draft year, but now we sit poised for what is a pretty unprecedented run.”

The 2021 Pro Bowl and NFL draft were scheduled to be held in Las Vegas. Both were held virtually instead.

In a season in which the Raiders have struggled, losing five of their six games to fall to 6-7 and on the verge of playoff elimination, Davis made it a point to celebrate the arrival of the Super Bowl.

“I’m just excited as all hell for the Raiders organization and Raider Nation and Las Vegas and the state of Nevada as a whole,” Davis said. “When you’re not winning on the field, it’s kind of nice to win off it sometimes. Today is a huge, huge win for all of us.”

Broadway Shows Face a Slew of Shutdowns Due to Positive COVID Tests

More Broadway shows are coming to a halt due to COVID-19.

Theaters across New York City are facing an unprecedented wave of show cancellations due to positive cases of the virus among various companies.

On Wednesday, the Tina Turner jukebox musical Tina shut down both shows for that reason. It is expected to resume as normal on Thursday.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cited the same reason when canceling its Wednesday matinee, though the evening performance was expected to go on, per their notice sent out that afternoon.

Earlier in the week, a string of other Broadway shows also called off numerous performances due to COVID-19 cases, including Mrs. Doubtfire, Freestyle Love Supreme, and Ain't Too Proud.

An off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors starring Jeremy Jordan, Tammy Blanchard, and Christian Borle, also shut down its weekend shows on Dec. 11 and 12, Playbill reported.

In each instance, the productions wrote that the shows would not go on "out of an abundance of caution."

A year and a half after the COVID-19 health crisis suddenly shut down New York City's vibrant theater district, Broadway shows slowly began to reopen in September.

"When you think of New York City...it's the capital of arts and culture," Mayor Bill de Blasio told ABC 7 at the time. "People love Broadway. When Broadway is up and running, it says so much about New York City. And tonight, a lot of Broadway is coming back...You can feel the life of the city coming back."

However, soon after productions began to open back up, they were quickly put on pause once again due to the virus.

Aladdin was one of the first to cancel performances on Sept. 29, just one day after the show reopened. It was swiftly followed by Chicken and Biscuits, which closed early due to the financial strains of the pandemic.

Chicago and Wicked have also been forced to cancel several shows over the past few months due to cases of COVID-19 among members of the production.

Broadway currently has strict health and safety guidelines pertaining to COVID-19. All shows are being played for fully vaccinated crowds, and masks are required to attend. All employees and performers are also required to be vaccinated.

Denzel Washington tears up on 'Colbert' while talking about his late mother: 'I didn't cry at her funeral'

Waterworks were flowing Wednesday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert as Denzel Washington broke down while discussing his late mother, Lennis Washington, who died in June at the age of 97.

Colbert brought up a quote Washington said about a mother being a boy’s first true love, and the host asked the actor how he is honoring that love with his work. That’s when the Oscar winner was hit with some unexpected emotions.

“A mother is a son's first true love. A son, especially that first son, is a mother's last true love,” Washington began. “That's... I'm getting choked up. Sorry.”

Washington, who stars in the new Joel Coen film The Tragedy of Macbeth, went on to say that his mother was there for everything throughout his life and career, but “she went home,” before asking Colbert for a tissue.

The emotions of the moment caught up with viewers at home, who took to Twitter with comments like “Crying with Denzel Washington tonight was not something I had on my agenda.”

After sitting for a moment in an attempt to gather himself, Washington then told Colbert that he didn’t even cry at his mother’s funeral. And when the host asked why he thinks that is, the answer was a perfect way to lighten the mood.

“I don't know. I guess I saved it up for you,” Washington said, laughing. “For crying out loud!”

But Washington, who is the father of actor John David Washington, did choose a pretty good shoulder to cry on, considering Colbert lost his father and two of his older brothers in a plane crash when he was just 10 years old, and his own mother died in 2013.

So when Washington closed his interview by saying, “Hug them, love them,” Colbert simply added, “I know it well.”

‘90 Day Fiancé’ star Jason Hitch dead at 45 from COVID-19

Jason Hitch, one of the stars of the second season of the TLC series “90 Day Fiancé,” has died due to complications from COVID-19, according to the reality star’s sister.

Sister Shannon confirmed to TMZ that Hitch — who was not vaccinated against the virus — passed away Tuesday at the age of 45 in the ICU of an undisclosed Florida hospital. Hitch’s family was reportedly by his bedside for his final moments, holding his hands.

To the family’s knowledge, Hitch did not suffer from any pre-existing conditions, but in addition to COVID-19 complications, he may have died from “other factors,” Shannon suggested.

She went on to call her brother, who was a first lieutenant in the Army reserves in Florida, a “true and honest shooter, a great officer and leader to his men.”

Hitch appeared on “90 Day Fiancé” in 2014, where he married Cássia Tavares, a Brazilian woman who moved to the US to be with him.

The couple had separated by 2017, divorcing the following year.

“A successful relationship is communication, physical attraction and doing whatever it takes,” Hitch told RadarOnline of his divorce in 2018. “Right now it’s time to go in different directions. I think we’ll remain friends. She knows I have her best interests at heart.”

He also defended his ex against those who believed Tavares only married the American bachelor for citizenship.

“She did not come here just to become an American citizen,” he said. “She had a good life in Brazil. She was about to finish college. She didn’t have to marry me.”

Kanye West Distances Himself From The Publicist Who Threatened A Poll Worker

Donald Trump and his Republican allies’ failed coup attempts got an aggressive, bizarre boost from a former associate of world-famous rapper Kanye West.

via: Uproxx

Ye might still be plotting to run for president again in 2024, as his pinned tweet from last year would suggest, but the rapper has run into some hot water when it comes to last year’s election. Last week, it was reported that a publicist from Ye’s team accused a poll worker of faking ballots and pressured them to admit to voter fraud or else they would be thrown in jail. Obviously, that’s not a good look for someone who might run for office in the future, but Ye’s team is now distancing themselves from the publicist, saying she was “not associated” with Ye at the time.

Trevian Kutti, the publicist in question, reportedly told the poll worker that they were “in danger” and that they were a “loose end for a party that needs to tidy up.” By the time Kutti showed up and accused them of faking ballots, the poll worker had already been harassed by Trump supporters for weeks on end. After Kutti left, the poll worker found out that Kutti was a known Trump supporter and worked for R. Kelly before joining Ye’s team.

While Ye’s team doesn’t deny that Kutti worked for the rapper in the past, one of his spokespeople told Reuters that they weren’t working for him at the time and haven’t since. “Trevian Kutti was not associated with Kanye West or any of his enterprises at the times of the facts that are reported in these articles or since these facts occurred,” the spokesperson said.

Trump and his allies continued to falsely accuse the women of election fraud, sparking months of threats that they said upended their lives. Some angry Trump supporters visited Freeman’s home. The 62-year-old temporary election worker went into hiding.

Man Who Threatened To ‘Put A Bullet’ In Nancy Pelosi’s Head Sentenced To More Than Two Years In Prison

On Tuesday, a Trump supporter who threatened to kill Nancy Pelosi was sentenced to more than two years in federal prison.

Cleveland Meredith Jr., a resident of Hayesville, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to one count of interstate communication of threats in September. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman sentenced him to 28 months in prison with three years of supervised release.

CNN reports that Meredith drove across the country to participate in the events scheduled for January 6 at the U.S. Capitol. However, he experienced car trouble and didn’t make it until after the rioters had dispersed.

Instead, he sent concerning text messages to family members with threats about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Mayor Muriel Bowser. The next day, he texted his uncle he was “Thinking about heading over to Pelosi C****’s speech and putting a bullet in her noggin on Live TV.”

His uncle told his mother about the message, and she contacted the FBI. Meredith’s mother told them her son suffers from mental illness and could be heading for trouble, but she didn’t think he would kill Pelosi.

Meredith was located by federal agents at his hotel, one mile from the Capitol, with thousands of rounds of ammunition, an assault rifle, and a handgun in his trailer.

He expressed his remorse and embarrassment over the arrest at the hearing, tearfully admitting he was not in control the day after the riot. In addition, he apologized to Pelosi.

“Let the record be crystal clear that it is not patriotism, it is not justified to descend on the Capitol at the behest of a candidate who lost an election and terrorize others,” Judge Berman said.

Meredith will receive credit for the 11 months he has already served in the D.C. Jail. The judge also ordered him to participate in mental health and drug treatment.

More than 700 people have been arrested in the 11 months after the U.S. Capitol riot. More than 200 of those arrests were for impeding or assaulting law enforcement. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the investigation into the riot is still ongoing.
