Digital Underground rapper Shock G, a.k.a. Humpty Hump, is DEAD at 57!πŸ˜₯πŸ™πŸ’”

Rapper and producer Shock G, also known as Humpty Hump of the Bay Area hip-hop crew Digital Underground, has died at age 57. The news was first announced by his Digital Underground bandmate Chopmaster J, who posted Thursday evening on Instagram: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

Shock G’s father, Edward Racker, later confirmed the news to TMZ, saying the rapper was found dead Thursday in a hotel room in Tampa, Fla. No cause of death was revealed, but Racker said there were no signs of trauma and that authorities will conduct an autopsy.

Although hardcore gangsta rap was on the rise when Digital Underground first hit the scene in the late '80s, they made their own mark with their psychedelic, P-Funk-inspired party jams and high-concept, high-camp image — led by the charismatic Shock G and his many outrageous alter egos. Shock G was also known as MC Blowfish, Icey-Michael Boston, the Computer Woman, ButtaFly, and Peanut Hakeem, but it was his most famous character, the prosthetic-nosed, plaid-suited, Groucho-spectacled, Burger King bathroom-frequenting Humpty Hump, that turned Digital Underground into MTV superstars.

Shock G was born Gregory Jacobs on Aug. 25, 1963, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He started off as a drummer and later taught himself to play piano, but in the late ‘70s he became fascinated with the burgeoning hip-hop art form and began experimenting with turntables while living in Queens. After a move to Tampa while still in his teens, he formed a mobile DJ crew called the Master Blasters and became an on-air personality for WTMP, although he was later fired by that R&B radio station for playing the 15-minute version of Funkadelic’s “(Not Just) Knee Deep.” Jacobs, who had dropped out of high school while living in Florida, eventually resumed his education and met a musician named Kenneth “Kenny-K” Waters while attending Hillsborough Community College. The two started collaborating, and after another move to Oakland, Calif., they formed Digital Underground with Jimi “Chopmaster J” Dright in 1987.

Digital Underground’s first single, “Underwater Rimes,” topped the pop chart in the Netherlands in 1988; the group signed to Tommy Boy Records a year later and scored a respectable U.S. hit with “Doowutchyalike,” which went to No. 29 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart and No. 19 Hot Rap Singles chart despite getting almost no radio airplay. That single did receive support from MTV, placing 40th on the cable network’s top 100 music videos of 1989 list, but it was another single from the group’s 1990 debut album, Sex Packets, that established them as platinum-selling sensations.

Digital Underground’s funky, Sly and the Family Stone- and Parliament-sampling “The Humpty Dance” peaked at No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot 100, No. 7 on the R&B chart, and No. 1 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart. It also went on to become one of the most sampled hip-hop songs of all time; some of the artists who have sampled it over the years include ABC, Gang Starr, Guy, Heavy-D & the Boys, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch, Public Enemy, Redman, Sade, Will Smith, the Spice Girls, TLC, and 2Pac. A young, unknown Tupac Shakur actually made a brief appearance in the “Humpty Dance” video and got his start in the music business as Digital Underground’s roadie and backup dancer, making his recording debut on the Digital Underground single “Same Song” in 1991.

In addition to his work with Digital Underground, as a solo recording artist, and as a guest rapper on tracks by everyone from George Clinton to Too $hort, Jacobs was a successful music producer. He produced Tupac Shakur’s “I Get Around” and “So Many Tears” in 1993 and 1995, respectively, and co-produced 2Pac’s debut album, 2Pacalypse Now. Jacobs’s production and remixing discography also included work for Bobby Brown, Dr. Dre, KRS-One, Monie Love, Murs, Prince, and Sir Mix-a-Lot.

Upon hearing the shocking news of Jacobs's death Thursday evening, his peers and admirers took to social media to mourn and pay tribute. RIP Shock G!

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Explains Why She and Tanya Sam Are "Not As Close As We Used To Be"!

As another season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta comes to an end, we're of course eager to know where all of the Georgia Peaches stand today, especially after that dramatic Season 13 finale, which aired on April 18.

When Porsha Williams and Drew Sidora appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on April 18 to reflect on the finale and the season of RHOA that was, many fans wanted to know if the ladies had kept in touch with one friend in particular: Tanya Sam.

Porsha confirmed that she and Tanya are still friendly today, and she gave us an update on what the RHOA pal has been up to since filming on Season 13 ended. "Yeah, I just spoke to her the other day. She was doing a project with Da Brat, and we're supposed to be getting together," Porsha said on WWHL. "She's busy. She has a lot of different things and shows that she's doing right now."

Because Tanya has so much going on right now, Porsha said that they're not as tight as they once were. "Yeah, we're still very cool," Porsha said. "But she's very busy, so we're not as close as we used to be."

You needn't look any further than Tanya's social media for proof that her schedule is quite full these days. Tanya has been hard at work on many endeavors, including hosting gigs and speaking engagements, many of which celebrate entrepreneurship and put a spotlight on Black-owned businesses. Of course, Tanya still makes time for her loved ones, whether it's going on the dreamiest vacations with her fiancΓ©, Paul Judge, or hanging out with her niece.

Porsha had more updates to share on WWHL, including how things are going in the co-parenting department for her and her ex, Dennis McKinley, as they raise their 2-year-old daughter, Pilar Jhena McKinley, together. "Oh my god, we still love each other. We're great co-parents, we're family members. We transitioned perfectly," Porsha said of Dennis on WWHL. "We're doing so well with our little family, with our little 'Poo Poo' Pilar."

Porsha and Dennis recently came together earlier this month for an Easter celebration with Pilar, which included an epic egg hunt.

#MusicNews: The Weeknd and Ariana Grande Announce New “Save Your Tears” Remix!

The Weeknd has announced a new remix of “Save Your Tears” featuring Ariana Grande. The new version of the After Hours track drops this Friday, April 23.

The Weeknd has appeared on two Ariana Grande albums: My Everything (“Love Me Harder”) and Positions (“off the table”).

The Weeknd has shared several After Hours remixes so far, including “Blinding Lights” with RosalΓa, “In Your Eyes” with Doja Cat, and more. Last month, the Weeknd re-released his debut mixtape, House of Balloons, to mark its 10th anniversary. He also recently announced he will be boycotting the Grammys going forward, refusing to attend or put his work forward for consideration, after After Hours received zero nominations at this year’s ceremony.

Ariana Grande released her most recent album, Positions, last year. She also made a guest appearance on Demi Lovato’s most recent album.

#HipHopNews: Swae Lee Speaks To Half-Brother Accused Of Killing Their Father!

Swae Lee has finally opened up about his half-brother Michael Sullivan's alleged involvement in the death of his stepfather, Floyd Sullivan.

In the debut episode of his new Snapchat series Swae Meets World, Swae, who makes up one-half of the hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, spoke candidly about Michael being accused of shooting Floyd, who Swae called "dad," last January.

"Everybody struggled in 2020, but it wasn't just the pandemic for me. It was more than that," Swae said in the episode. "My dad, my pops, he passed away recently. I have three brothers. Allegedly the police say my youngest brother, he shot my dad, like, killed my dad. And it's like, my brother killed my dad. That sh*t is like unbelievable like you can't even imagine. It's like something out of a movie. I'm still dealing with it like I don't even know how to deal with it all the way completely."

He added, "It's traumatic, but it puts like fury inside you. You can't bring nobody back... it's just so different."

On Wednesday (April 21), TMZ shared a clip from an upcoming episode that showed Swae talking to Michael, who is currently in jail awaiting trial, about their father's death.

The clip begins with Michael, who is heard on speakerphone, saying, "I wish I was out." Swae then responds, "Me too, everybody do." The 27-year-old artist's mom, Bernadette Walker, then asks Michael to share "what was going through [his] head" the night of his father's death.

After taking a deep breath, Michael responds, "I was hearing voices, and I thought dad was trying to make me kill myself. Like, my stomach was hurting. I couldn't eat, really, and different stuff like that." The clip ends with Swae telling Michael, "Keep your head clear, Mike... we ain't forgot about you. Keep your head up, bruh."

In March, Michael was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of his father, Floyd.

In January 2020, police were called to a home in Tupelo, Mississippi, where officers found Swae's stepfather's body, which had multiple gunshot wounds, TMZ reported at the time. Law enforcement officers told the outlet that Michael was a person of interest in the shooting and was being held for psychiatric evaluation. He was later "released from a local psychological care facility and immediately arrested for murder."

Weeks following Floyd's death, Bernadette revealed that her son Michael was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. While she said she believed Michael might have been off his medication before the shooting, she noted anything was possible.

Tayshia Adams Speaks out on Colton Underwood Coming Out!

Tayshia Adams, one of the runners-up on Colton Underwood’s season of “The Bachelor,” spoke out in support of the athlete after he came out as gay on Wednesday.

“Tayshia is very happy that Colton is able to now live his life openly and without fear of sharing who he is,” her rep told Page Six.

The 29-year-old former NFL player admitted in his “Good Morning America” interview that he felt some guilt starring on the ABC dating show in 2019 while he was still finding himself.

“Do I regret being ‘The Bachelor’? Do I regret handling it the way that I did? I do,” he told Robin Roberts. “I do think I could’ve handled it better. I just wish I wouldn’t have dragged people into the mess of figuring out who I was.”

In the finale, Underwood chose Cassie Randolph, but the couple split in 2020.

He added on Wednesday, “I can sit here and say I’m sorry to all of those women, and I can also say thank you because without them and without the ‘Bachelor’ franchise, I don’t know if this would’ve come out.”

Despite Underwood’s regrets, Adams, who found love with now-fiancΓ© Zac Clark in 2020 on her season of “The Bachelorette,” harbors no hard feelings.

Her rep told us, “There is absolutely no ill will, only support for Colton sharing his story.”

Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin both came in second place on Colton Underwood’s season of “The Bachelor.”

ABC

Several other stars and members of the “Bachelor” franchise have come out in support of Underwood after his emotional interview.

Even host Chris Harrison took to social media, writing, “Very proud of you today @coltonunderwood Happy to see you stand up and openly live your truth.”

Fans Rush to Kirk Franklin’s Defense After a Troll Brings Up His Estranged Son Kerrion In His Post to Grandson!

Kirk Franklin is receiving a small bit of backlash from fans after posting a sweet message for his grandson. His Instagram post, which was uploaded last week, showed a photo of him holding his 1-year-old grandson as he looked at Franklin.

Franklin penned a lengthy caption to celebrate his grandson’s first birthday. He wrote, “I haven’t had the privilege of holding him often due the 100 year plague he was born into… can only imagine how the last 365 days on this planet have been for him… isolated, yet loved, sheltered, yet still covered, and dreams of getting dirty with food all over his clothes with others kids at the park, are what bedtime stories are made of.”

He continued, “This is my baby’s baby…His momma and daddy are legends in my eyes. Staying together through this pandemic, and loving this little boy with a sacrificial elegance only a few know as new parents during this historic isolation, an exclusive fraternity for the brave at heart. Happy one year young king. We have so much catching up to do πŸ‘‘ ❤️.”

Many fans applauded Franklin for his beautifully written message. One said that his words, “Touches my heart,” and another wrote, “Yes sir! You are indeed a writer. Beautiful post❤️.” While some saw Franklin’s post as just a sweet message, another fan believed the “Revolution” singer was taking a dig at his estranged son Kerrion.

The fan said, “Now Kirk the baby is cute and all, but my brother sir..πŸ‘€πŸ‘€..is this shade…all i could think about is Kerrion..see whats always been wrong with us the black community is we love to sweep iisshh under the rug!!..I pray for yall..i know about family trauma and secrets..been there done that.”

Some of Franklin’s supporters rushed to the musical artist’s defense.

“Don’t come ova here starting mess.”

“Stay out of people’s personal lives.”

“If everyone around you including your mother is saying you’re the problem… the problem might just be you and in case you didn’t know I’m talking about Kerrion.”

Last month, Franklin’s fans were shocked after 32-year-old Kerrion released a recording of a heated conversation between him and his father. Franklin could be heard telling Kerrion things like “I will break your neck n—a. Don’t you ever disrespect me.” Kerrion continued to blast his father for a few days.

Franklin issued a public apology on social media where he explained that he and his son “have had a toxic relationship,” for many years and that they have tried seeking counseling. But Kerrion dismissed his father’s apology and said in a response that he’s “earned the space to speak how I please about my childhood.” Although things have since calmed down between the two on social media it is not entirely clear if the two have begun their journey toward healing their relationship again.

Jennifer Lopez Wants a Man Who She Can ‘Trust’ After Alex Rodriguez Split!

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s engagement was doomed due to trust issues, sources say.

“J. Lo was always aware of the rumors of him cheating or him messaging other girls. You can say that for sure [that] played a part in why the engagement ended,” the source says. “She wants someone who’s fully invested in her and someone she can trust when her partner is not around.”

Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez, 45, announced their split earlier this month after four years of dating.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the pair said in a statement on April 15. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

The source adds that the musician “will be OK” following the breakup.

“She’s a super strong woman inside and out,” the source says.

While Lopez shares 13-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony, Rodriguez is the father of daughters Natasha, 16, and Ella, 13, whom he shares with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis. The source told Us that their blended family prolonged their breakup.

“A-Rod’s girls and J. Lo’s kids are really close, so the reason why they stayed together for as long as they did was to make their kids happy,” the source said. “They still have love for each other that I think will never go away.”

The former New York Yankees player has shared several social media posts featuring Lopez following the split, including pictures of his ex in his tribute to his youngest daughter on Wednesday, April 21.

“That number has meant a lot to me over the years, but today, it’s even more special than ever. I just can’t believe my Ella Bella turns 13 today. My baby girl is officially a teenager!!” he wrote via Instagram. “I am so proud of the young woman you are becoming and so lucky and grateful to be your dad. I love you so much. Happy magical 13th birthday sweetheart!”

Lopez and Rodriguez previously denied split rumors in March, noting they were “working through” something.

“Jennifer and A-Rod had been in couples counseling for a while and they truly just grew apart,” another source said earlier this month. “[They] will still remain in communication, but they both have a lot going on in their careers that they most likely will not be seeing each other or having play dates as much anymore. They still have their mansion, they still have deals they were working on together. Everything is in the process of being sorted out.”

Disney’s Soul Is Getting A Follow-Up, Coming to Disney+!

While 2020 was rough for the film industry, Pixar fans were lucky enough to be treated to two Pixar movies rather than the average of one per year. Onward arrived in March, and Soul followed in December, with the latter movie premiering exclusively on Disney+ stateside. Now it’s been announced that a Soul follow-up story is also heading to the Mouse House’s streaming service, only rather than being another feature-length movie, it will be a short film centered on Tina Fey’s character, 22.

When Jamie Foxx’s Joe Gardner met 22 in Soul, she was unwilling to head to Earth with the other souls, and instead spent her time causing trouble in The Great Before. This short film, titled 22 vs. Earth, will take place long before Joe came into 22’s life and delve into her beef with our planet. You also won’t have to wait that long to watch 22 vs. Earth, as it’s hitting Disney+ on April 30.

Directed by Soul editor Kevin Nolting (who’s been working at Pixar for 21 years), 22 vs. Earth sees its title character recruiting a gang of five souls in her attempt at rebellion against going to Earth. However, these other souls’ activities lead to unexpected results, resulting in 22’s subversive plot leading to a surprising revelation about the meaning to life. Here’s what Nolting had to say about 22 vs. Earth:

While making Soul, we talked about the why of a new soul not wanting to live on Earth, but it didn’t ultimately belong in that movie. 22 vs. Earth was a chance to explore some of the unanswered questions we had about why 22 was so cynical. As a fairly cynical person myself, it felt like perfect material.

Besides Tina Fey obviously reprising 22, no other casting details for 22 vs. Earth was announced, and it’s also unclear how long the short film will be. Still, if you watched Soul and enjoyed 22’s hijinks, then it sounds like this short film will be worth your time. Kevin Nolting also said the following about these other souls accompanying 22:

I think the new souls make the short so fun—the contrast of their pure innocence and delight with the cynical expectations of 22. The other new souls are what 22 once was before she took another path—purely innocent, blank slates to be guided by the counselors in their mostly uneventful journey to the earth portal. 22 sees an opening in that and attempts to guide them herself into her way of thinking.

The original Soul movie followed Joe Gardner, a pianist and middle school music teacher, getting the opportunity to play with a jazz legend… only for him to fall down a manhole and become comatose. From there, Joe’s soul managed to avoid passing through The Great Beyond and tried desperately to return to his body, leading to him striking up a unique relationship with 22 upon meeting her in The Great Before. Soul’s cast also included Graham Norton, Phylicia Rashad, Rachel House, Angela Bassett, Alice Braga, Donnell Rawlings, Questlove and Daveed Diggs, among others. Pete Docter and Kemp Powers directed the movie, as well as wrote the script with Mike Jones.

Like so much of Pixar’s cinematic fare, Soul has been met with a lot of positive reviews, and its accolades include winning two Golden Globes and currently being in the running for three Oscars. We’ll find how it does with the latter honors when the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony airs on ABC this Sunday, April 25, but just a few days later, Soul fans will be able to check out 22 vs. Earth on Disney+, so make sure you’re subscribed to the platform.

Bus Driver Loses Job After Making Racist George Floyd Comment To Black Student!

A white woman in Louisiana lost her job as a bus driver after she made a racist remark to a Black student who boarded her bus panting.

As reported by WWL-TV, 11-year-old Rashad Gabriel ran to catch the bus to Trist Middle School in St. Bernard Parish on April 9. When he finally got on the bus, the white woman reportedly scolded him for having his mask below his nose. The preteen explained that he was out of breath, to which the bus driver replied, “Since George Floyd, that’s what you all say, but I don’t see a knee on your neck.”

Gabriel told his mother, Rose, about the comment — which was heard by other bus riders and captured on the bus’ camera — and she reported the incident to the media.

“I just started crying. Because she….excuse me,” said the victim’s mother. “Don’t make him feel inferior. He’s not inferior to nothing. He’s equal to any of those students on that bus.”

Since getting wind of the driver’s comments, the school’s Superintendent Doris Voitier took action, later revealing her current status at the Louisiana school.

“She no longer works for our school system,” Voitier said in a telephone interview. “I can’t defend that. I don’t condone that. What she said is offensive and inappropriate. It was racially insensitive. And we took appropriate action.” The superintendent did not reveal whether the bus driver was fired or resigned, noting it is a personnel matter.

Students at more than 100 Minnesota schools walk out of class to protest racial injustice

“It made me relieved that I know she’s no long[er] on the bus with my son or anybody else’s child,” Gabriel’s mother said of the driver’s departure.

The white woman’s racist comment was ironically made during the murder trial for Derek Chauvin, the officer who placed his knee on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds amid his arrest. He has since been convicted on all counts and taken to Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights, where he awaits sentencing for second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Ellen DeGeneres shared an appropriate story on 4/20 during her Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance.

During the visit, Ellen, who mentioned she's not a big fan of marijuana, revealed she had consumed three "weed drinks" right before she found out she needed to drive wife Portia de Rossi to the hospital for her appendectomy in March.

"So, Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they're called Cann, and they have CBD or [THC]—I don't know what the good thing is," Ellen quipped. "I drank one, and I didn't feel anything, so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills. And I'm laying in bed, and I realize [Portia's] not in bed."

The comedian continued, "She's moaning. I get out of bed, and she's on the ground on all fours, and I said, 'You're not OK.' She goes, 'I'm OK.' I said, 'No, unless you're playing Twister by yourself, you're not OK.' So I rushed her to the emergency room."

This immediately led Jimmy to worry about Ellen's choices. "You drove her yourself?" he asked.

Ellen replied, "I did. I mean, I kicked in, like my adrenaline, because I just had to rush her there. It's probably not safe." She added with a laugh, "I shouldn't be saying any of this."

The Ellen's Game of Games host went on to share that Portia ended up having an emergency appendectomy the next day. Luckily, as Ellen told viewers on March 23, Portia is "feeling much better now."

Lizzo Celebrated Taurus Season by Posting an Unedited Naked Pic!

Singer Lizzo, whose birthday is April 27, is celebrating the start of Taurus Season by showing off her birthday suit, unedited, unfiltered, au natural. The always body-positive icon posted a picture of herself to Instagram in which she is reclining, completely naked, and enjoying a beverage.

♉️WELCOME TO TAURUS SEASON♉️ To celebrate I wanna give y’all this unedited selfie.. now normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin but baby I wanted show u how I do it au natural,” she wrote in the caption.

She explained that the decision to forgo all retouching, part of a partnership with Dove called The Selfie Talk, is in an effort to “reverse the negative effects of social media,” which has only intensified our culture’s obsession with beauty perfection. Rather than give in to the temptation to “fix” a photo, Lizzo would rather be “changing the conversation about beauty standards.”

According to a study from Dove, young girls who spend time altering their photos also report higher instances of low body self-esteem.

“I love how this generation is so creative in the ways in which they express themselves,” Lizzo said in a statement provided by Dove. “It’s really inspiring to see how people are taking their identity and their beauty into their own hands. However, people are struggling with their self-image and self-confidence more than ever. This is amplified by the increasing pressure to show a digitally distorted version of ourselves, reinforcing the idea that our beauty in real life is not good enough or worthy of likes.”

Support from Lizzo’s followers and friends came pouring in after she posted her selfie. Singer SZA praised her friend’s skin, commenting, “It’s you having no blemishes at ALL lol .. sigh I jus admire u Fren😒 I wanna drop the FaceTime pics.” Um, please do! Designer Marc Jacobs commented red heart emojis.

Lizzo’s work with Dove will also touch on another topic the brand has been passionately championing for the past two years—the passage of the Crown Act, which would make it illegal for schools and employers to discriminate against someone for wearing their hair natural or in braids, locs, and twists. ‘TUTU FOR YOU’

Y’all can mock all you want but this was one of the most entertaining school pageants I’ve ever seen. Although, to be fair, if you’ve ever been to any of those recitals you know the bar is set like super low.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ALL!!!
