Regina King and Dr Anthony Fauci for People Magazine - People Of The Year Issue 2020!
People magazine has named George Clooney, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Selena Gomez and Regina King as the “2020 People of the Year.”

The magazine revealed its list Wednesday morning as part of a year-end double issue with four covers. The four will be celebrated for their positive impact in the world during a challenging 2020.
Clooney, Fauci, Gomez and King will be separately featured on the magazine covers of the issue, which is out Friday.
Clooney has received some Oscar buzz for his upcoming film “The Midnight Sky,” but the actor was also in spotlight for his advocacy work. He donated $500,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative in wake of George Floyd’s death and $1 million for COVID-19 relief efforts in Italy, London and Los Angeles.
As the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Fauci provided steady guidance during the turbulent pandemic. As the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he has been one of the nation’s leading sources of information about the fight against COVID-19.

Gomez released her chart-topping album “Rare” and hosted the cooking show “Selena + Chef” on HBO Max. But the pop superstar also spread her message of inclusion through her makeup brand Rare Beauty, which set the goal of raising $100 million in 10 years to help give people access to mental health initiatives.
King, who won an Emmy in September, used her voice to encourage people to vote. The actor also called for support of marginalized communities during the pandemic and end police brutality of unarmed Black people. Her directorial debut, “One Night in Miami,” has also been talked about as a possible Oscar contender.

#RHOA: Here’s An Update on Kenya Moore and Marc Daly's Marriage!
The last we heard about Kenya Moore and Marc Daly's marriage, the couple was working on their relationship following the announcement of their separation in September 2019.
"We're working on it. We're in counseling, and Marc has made a complete 360. He just seems like he's fighting for his family, and that's all I ever wanted him to do," Kenya shared an update on her marriage during The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 virtual reunion. "I had blocked him, and then he started to ask to speak with me and send me emails and just become more humble in the relationship and he just basically said he really wants to work on it."

When we caught up with Kenya a few months later in the RHOA Season 13 premiere, which aired on December 6, it appeared that she and Marc were in a very different place. As Kenya drove to meet with a divorce attorney, she told her friend, Brandon, on the phone that she felt "nervous," "sad," and "scared" as she prepared to discuss the future of her marriage.

Kenya recalled feeling "defeated" during her last visit to see Marc in New York, where he lives and works as a restaurateur. "I know it's a trying time for him, but I'm tired of making excuses for him," Kenya told Brandon, later adding that she's also "just tired of being sad."
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic took a particular toll on Kenya and her marriage. "I've been a wife that has tried everything to be respectful, be kind, and I feel like for the past six months, my marriage has just gone downhill," Kenya shared.

During her meeting with her divorce attorney, Antavius Weems, Kenya explained that a separation was "not something I initially wanted," but Marc told her he was going to announce it following a tense night at his Black Man Lab charity event, which we saw in Season 12 of RHOA. "Since that time, we were actually doing really well," Kenya said. "And then COVID happened, and it really adversely affected his businesses, and we were apart. I was here, he was in New York, and I feel like I am the first person to take the brunt of everything that is going on with him."

Kenya then described dealing with "insults" from Marc and him "being angry." "I was just walking around on eggshells," she shared.
Kenya explained in an interview during the episode that she was meeting with her divorce attorney to figure out next steps if she did decide to officially end her marriage. "This is not my first time speaking with a divorce attorney," she said. "This is just the first time I have decided to figure out what my options are before I take action and file."

Should she and Marc proceed with a divorce, Kenya said that she doesn't want to run into any issue with assets and noted that the couple does not have a prenuptial agreement. Kenya's divorce attorney said that he is most concerned about figuring out the custody of Kenya and Marc's daughter Brooklyn, who turned 2 last month.
Kenya got emotional thinking about how a divorce could impact Brooklyn's relationship with her dad. "We've been separated well over 10 months, and I have Brooklyn with me 100 percent of the time, and I feel like I need to have custody issues settled before I actually file for divorce," Kenya said in an interview during the episode.

Later in the episode, Kenya invited Kandi Burruss and Cynthia Bailey over to Moore Manor, where she was making some changes to her backyard. "Who knows what the future holds? I'm just making choices for myself and not considering how it's going to make Marc feel," Kenya said in an interview. "Marc never wanted a pool, and I thought, 'Oh, you don't live here anymore. I'm building a pool, because it's what I wanted.'"

Kenya then opened up to her friends about her recent visit to New York to see Marc. "I have just been feeling like I'm just in a holding pattern, and whenever I've tried to really talk to him about us, it never really goes anywhere. After about five months of us being apart, I said, you know, I'm going to go to New York. I'm going to make sure Brookyn sees him and try to talk to him," Kenya shared. "So the first day we were OK. Second day, he picked a fight with me. He spoke to me in a nasty way."

She also told Kandi and Cynthia that she met with a divorce attorney and discussed making a separation agreement with Marc or filing for divorce. "If Marc makes you happy, I'm here for it," Cynthia told Kenya. "But if he's not making you happy, I'm not here for it."
Kenya shared in response, "Couples go through ups and downs, and I was OK riding that wave with him because I got married for better or for worse."

Kandi noted to Kenya that "it seems like it's either his way or the highway," and Kenya said that she's not sure what she's going to do when it comes to her marriage. "I haven't completely made a decision, but my heart tells me that he cannot change," Kenya shared.
Cynthia agreed that it seems like Kenya has done everything she could do to try to save her marriage. "I will say this: You have tried to make it work with Marc Daly," Cynthia told Kenya. "I just feel like you really gave this all you could really give it."

Kenya and Marc recently reunited for daughter Brooklyn's second birthday party earlier this month. The RHOA parents were all smiles in the photo captured at the event, which Kenya posted on Instagram on November 15.

#NewMusic: Donny Hathaway’s ‘This Christmas’ Gets An Animated Music Video!
This past Friday marked the 50th anniversary of what is arguably the Black Christmas National Anthem, Donny Hathaway's “This Christmas.” It’s one of the most played and performed songs each Christmas and has been covered by numerous performers, including Destiny’s Child, CeeLo Green, Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown and many others. But there’s something about the original version sung by the late great Hathaway that feels like Christmas.

The good folks over at Rhino Records decided to commemorate the occasion by producing an animated video – Donny Hathaway's first music video at that – for the timeless track. The visual features Mr. Hathaway taking a stroll around his hometown of Chicago during the holidays. Wearing his signature cap and a coat, he walks past people finishing up their last-minute shopping, hanging decorations and spending quality time with family and friends.

The clip ends with Mr. Hathaway coming home to his family on Christmas Eve, with his wife and young daughters Lalah Hathaway and Kenya Hathaway waiting for him by the tree. It’s hard to breathe new life into a timeless classic, but this fun, heartwarming treatment courtesy of famed cartoonist Lonnie Milsap does a great job.

Dionne Warwick Wants You To Know She Writes Her Own Tweets!
Dionne Warwick doesn’t need anybody … to help her tweet. On the heels of last week’s viral exchange with Chance the Rapper — in which the 79-year-old music icon aired her grievances with both Chance and The Weeknd’s stage names — Warwick took to social media Monday to reassure fans that she’s the only person behind her snappy posts.

“Came here to find foolishness in my replies,” Warwick wrote on Twitter alongside a video explaining herself. “I am rushing to into an interview and this is the last time I’m saying this. Thanks.”
“This is for all you tweeters who have decided that I’m not tweeting my own stuff,” Warwick began. “I want you to know I am — and I’m getting very, very, very good at it.”

Warwick added that a “wonderful” niece urged her to get on Twitter, and, “I said, ‘OK, teach me how to do it,’ and she did, and I am doing it.”
“So that should quell all of you naysayers. And if it doesn’t — deal with it.”

'Big Sky' Gets a Full-Season Order at ABC!
The network has ordered six additional episodes of the David E. Kelley series, which has faced criticism from Indigenous groups over a lack of representation.
ABC is extending the first season of Big Sky.
The network has ordered six more episodes of the David E. Kelley-created drama, bringing its total to 16 — about as close to a full-season order as network dramas are likely to get in 2020-21. Most network series, which started production and premiered later than usual thanks to the pandemic, are likely to fall short of their usual 22 to 24 episodes this season.

Based on a book series by C.J. Box, Big Sky centers on a private detective (Kylie Bunbury) and an ex-cop (Katheryn Winnick) who work together to solve a string of abductions in Montana. The cast also includes Brian Geraghty, Dedee Pfeiffer, Natalie Alyn Lind, Jade Pettyjohn, Jesse James Keitel, Valerie Mahaffey, John Carroll Lynch and Ryan Phillippe.

The show has faced criticism from Indigenous groups for a lack of Native American and Indigenous characters onscreen, particularly since "the disproportionate majority of missing and murdered women in Montana are Indigenous," per a letter from the Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council, Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana and Global Indigenous Council sent to the show's producers in November.
Kelley and his fellow executive producers said in a statement last week that "our eyes have been opened to the outsized number of Native American and Indigenous women who go missing and are murdered each year, a sad and shocking fact," and that they would work to "bring attention" to the issue.

Global Indigenous Council president Tom Rodgers replied that no one from the show, ABC or parent company Disney had reached out to the council, but he "would be very interested" to hear any ideas.
Big Sky has put up decent but not great ratings for its initial airings, averaging about 4.25 million viewers the night it airs. It has taken off in delayed and multiplatform viewing, with the Nov. 17 series premiere growing 10.8 million viewers and a 2.5 rating in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49 across all platforms after a week.

Disney's 20th Television and A+E Studios produce the series. Kelley, Ross Fineman, Matthew Gross, Paul McGuigan, C.J. Box and Gwyneth Horder-Payton are the executive producers.

Mario Lopez Is A Finger-Lickin’ Good Colonel Sanders In ‘Recipe’ Movie!
Sprinkled in with 11 secret herbs and spices, “Saved by the Bell” star Mario Lopez is serving up a big bucket of finger-lickin’ good lovin’ as none other than Kentucky Fried Chicken’s signature spokesman, Colonel Harland Sanders.

Deep-fried by forbidden flames, sizzling hot and juicy Lopez — coiffed with the Colonel’s unmistakable silver comb-over and well-groomed goatee — steams up the small screen as a saucy chef with the hots for his evil, albeit well-to-do boss’ daughter in Lifetime’s original mini-movie “A Recipe for Seduction.”
Turning up the heat with “mystery, suspense, deception, and ‘fowl’ play,” the 15-minute romance comes as a creative collaboration between KFC and Lifetime in an effort to gift consumers with the “perfect distraction” from all things 2020 this holiday season.

And online lovers of Lopez, 47, are eating his sexy Sanders up!
“LIFETIME IS RELEASING A HORNY KFC MOVIE STARRING MARIO LOPEZ AS COLONEL SANDERS I WILL NEVER RECOVER,” an enthused tweeter exclaimed on Twitter. “I don’t like KFC, Lifetime movies, or Mario Lopez, but together-magic. Thank you 2020!,” tweeted another.
Colonel Sanders’ Southern-gent swag was previously remixed toward sex god vibes for Mother’s Day in 2017, when KFC released the romantic novella “Tender Wings of Desire,” starring the fried chicken joint’s mustached mascot as a muscle-bound lover boy.

Lopez as Colonel Sanders in “A Recipe For Seduction” premieres Sunday, Dec. 13, at 12 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.

Christopher Nolan Shocked Warner Bros. Sending Their Films to ‘Worst Streaming Service’ HBO Max!
Over the last eighteen years, Christopher Nolan has made nine motion pictures in conjuncture with Warner Bros., dating back to 2002’s Insomnia. When it comes to his thoughts about the studio’s recently-announced decision to release their 2021 movie slate in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, well, the Tenet director wishes someone would have at least mentioned it to him first. If they had, maybe Christopher Nolan could have suggested Warner Bros. partner with something other than “the worst streaming service.”

“Some of our industry’s biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars went to bed the night before thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio, and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service,” the director told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement Monday. “Warner Bros. had an incredible machine for getting a filmmaker’s work out everywhere, both in theaters and in the home, and they are dismantling it as we speak. They don’t even understand what they’re losing. Their decision makes no economic sense and even the most casual Wall Street investor can see the difference between disruption and dysfunction.”

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Nolan laments the “very, very, very, very messy” way the studio handled informing (or, in this case, not informing) their frequent collaborators about the decision. “Oh, I mean, disbelief. Especially the way in which they did. There’s such controversy around it, because they didn’t tell anyone,” the director told ET about his reaction to the news. “In 2021, they’ve got some of the top filmmakers in the world, they’ve got some of the biggest stars in the world who worked for years in some cases on these projects very close to their hearts that are meant to be big-screen experiences. They’re meant to be out there for the widest possible audiences… And now they’re being used as a loss-leader for the streaming service – for the fledgling streaming service – without any consultation.”

Said Nolan, “So, there’s a lot of controversy. It’s very, very, very, very messy. A real bait and switch. Yeah, it’s sort of not how you treat filmmakers and stars and people who, these guys have given a lot for these projects. They deserved to be consulted and spoken to about what was going to happen to their work.”

Bob Dylan Sells Publishing Rights Of His Entire Music Catalog To Universal!
Bob Dylan has sold the rights to his entire music catalog — more than 600 songs released since the early-1960s — to Universal Music Publishing Group.
The 20th century icon's deal with Universal was called a "landmark agreement" when it was announced Monday. Dylan has been fiercely protective of his music catalog, and retained rights to much of it through the decades.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the New York Times reports its value is more than $300 million.
Executives are UMG praised Dylan's work when the deal was made public.
"To represent the body of work of one of the greatest songwriters of all time — cultural importance can't be overstated — is both a privilege and a responsibility," UMG Publishing Group CEO Jody Gerson said in a statement.

"It's no secret that the art of songwriting is the fundamental key to all great music, nor is it a secret that Bob is one of the very greatest practitioners of that art," added UMG CEO Sir Lucian Grainge. "Brilliant and moving, inspiring and beautiful, insightful and provocative, his songs are timeless — whether they were written more than half a century ago or yesterday."
CNN Business points out that music publishing has become an increasing point of emphasis for the record industry this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic halted most live performances indefinitely.

Dylan has sold more than 125 million records worldwide and toured regularly before the pandemic shutdowns. His catalog includes several monumental folk and rock songs since the early-'60s, including "The Times They Are a-Changin'," "Like a Rolling Stone," "Mr. Tambouring Man," "Tangled Up in Blue" and many others.
In addition to his own hits, Dylan's albums have provided signature songs for other artists, including Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, Eric Clapton, The Animals, Joan Baez, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Guns N' Roses, The Black Crowes, Garth Brooks, Cher, The Grateful Dead and many others.

Dylan was the subject of the 2007 Oscar-nominated film I'm Not There and the 2019 semi-fictional documentary Rolling Thunder Review.
In 2008, he won the Pulitzer Prize special citation for his impact on American culture.

In 2016, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for "having created new poetic expression within the great American song tradition."

Cardi B Headed to Trial for Putting Man's Tattoo on Album Cover!
Next year is shaping up to be a landmark year for tattoo trials. The latest, thanks to a federal court ruling on Friday, has Cardi B facing a jury for using a man's distinctive tattoo on the cover of her first album.
Kevin Brophy Jr. alleges Cardi B misappropriated his likeness in “a misleading, offensive, humiliating and provocatively sexual way” in order to launch her career. And at this point, there's no dispute whose tattoo appeared on Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1, although Brophy does include a false light claim (a cross between privacy invasion and defamation) based on what the pictured tattooed man (not Brophy but rather a male model) is doing (cunnilingus).
In a summary judgment motion, Cardi B argued that the cover image is transformative fair use of Brophy's likeness.

U.S. District Court Judge Cormac Carney rejects fair use as a basis for handing Cardi B a win in the lawsuit at the pretrial stage.
"To constitute a transformative fair use, the revised image must have significant transformative or creative elements to make it something more than mere likeness or imitation," writes Carney. "A reasonable jury in this case could conclude that there are insufficient transformative or creative elements on the GBMV1 cover to constitute a transformative use of Plaintiff’s tattoo."

The judge points to testimony from Timm Gooden, who created the album cover. Gooden got $50 to make a quick design from a few images he was given. Gooden turned in a draft and was told to go find another tattoo over the back of the male model. So Gooden googled "back tattoos," found an image, and pasted it onto the cover.

The judge hears word from Cardi B's side that the neck tattoo was removed, that the arm was repositioned, that the image was tilted, and so forth, but the judge believes that the jury could find that the changes were insufficiently creative. "Most significantly, defining elements including the tiger and snake remain virtually unchanged," continues the decision. "Under these circumstances, a jury will have to decide the merits of Defendants’ defense."

On the more hopeful side for Cardi B, the judge has nixed Brophy's expert on the topic of damages.
Douglas Bania, the proposed expert, looked to ascertain the amount of revenue attributable to use of the tattoo, and so the expert noted that 84 percent of the albums royalties were generated by streaming and downloading where the cover art appeared upon searches for the album. Bania concluded that $1,070,854 was related to use of the image for Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1, plus opined that $554,935 should be added for use of the likeness for Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2.

The judge isn't impressed with the analysis.
"Bania does [not] cite to any survey, poll, focus group, or other study where listeners—much less 100% of listeners—stated that the sole driver of their decision of what music to listen to is cover art, or that cover art is absolutely critical to their decision to listen to a song or album," states the opinion. "Asked at his deposition whether he looked at surveys, polls, or studies regarding why consumers buy records, he could cite none. That is for good reason. Such a conclusion is pure fantasy."
After hypothesizing other ways that others may have come to Cardi B's album, Carney adds, "Put another way, Bania’s theory means that if Defendants had not used Plaintiff’s tattoo on the GBMV1 cover, Cardi B would have made no money on the album—at least on the streaming services where the tattoo appears. There is absolutely no basis for this conclusion, and the Court in its role as gatekeeper will not allow a jury to rely on it."

As a result, Brophy appears to be having trouble on the damages end, although punitive damages is still on the table, and the false light claim remains as well.

Cardi B's prospective tattoo trial adds to other pending legal actions over use of tattoos including one against the WWE for copying a wrestler's tattoo for video games. That action was brought by the tattoo artist and is also headed to a jury.

Khloe Kardashian Says Family's Christmas Eve Party Is Canceled for First Time in 40 Years!
A few weeks after Khloé Kardashian said she hoped to have the family's annual Christmas Eve party this year, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star officially announced it will be canceled due to COVID-19. For the first time in 40-years, the Kardashian and Jenner family will not be throwing their famous festive bash alongside their closest family and friends. The news comes just two years after family matriarch, Kris Jenner, handed over the reigns to her daughter Kim Kardashian.

"The Covid cases are getting out of control in CA," she wrote on Twitter, according to Us Weekly. "So we decided that we're not doing a Christmas Eve party this year. It's the first time we will not be having a Christmas Eve party since 1978 I believe." She also noted that they're putting "health and safety first" and that "taking this pandemic seriously is a must."

Every year the Kardashian and Jenner family host an extravagant Christmas Eve party. On their list of invitees is nothing short of A-list from famous faces like Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Seacrest have attended their annual holiday event. However, this isn't a tradition they started hosting since the start of their popular reality show. This started early on in the sisters' lives when their mom, Jenner, started the family tradition. Since their rise to fame, their parties only grew more-and-more lush.

This news comes just a few weeks after the family was publicly scrutinized for hosting large gatherings during the pandemic, from Kendall Jenner's Halloween party and birthday celebration to Kim Kardashian's 40th birthday gathering on a private island. It's safe to say the family has been rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.

Jenner threw a Halloween party that was also her birthday party, and fans were furious over the gathering. As a result, her family members came to her defense. Around the same time, her older sister Kim threw a private island party with some of her closest friends and family for her 40th birthday. However, even though she disclosed that everyone involved got tested and took the proper precautions ahead of the gathering, that wasn't enough for some. Some onlookers felt as if the family was out of touch for throwing a party on that level when people are suffering and losing their jobs and businesses. Others noted that everyone who attended is put in danger even though they were tested ahead of time. Now, it looks like the family doesn't want to risk it.

President Elect Biden Expected To Nominate Gen. Lloyd Austin As Defense Secretary!
President-elect Joe Biden plans to name Lloyd Austin, the retired U.S. Army four-star general, as his pick for secretary of defense in his incoming administration, two sources familiar with the decision confirmed to NPR.
Austin joins a growing and diverse list of nominees for Biden's cabinet, which the president-elect has said he wants to reflect the diversity of America. If confirmed, Austin would be the first African American to lead the department.

Austin brings to the table decades of military experience and had previously led the U.S. Central Command.
A third source familiar with the discussions said Biden came to trust Austin and his experience during Situation Room briefings over the years when Austin was head of Centcom.

The source says Austin emerged as the leading candidate over the course of the past week, noting Austin had "broken barriers" during his rise in the military. "He also appreciated that General Austin knows the human costs of war first-hand," said the source, who was not authorized to speak to reporters.
The news was first reported by Politico.

To be confirmed, Austin — who retired from the military in 2016 — will need a waiver from a law that requires the secretary of defense to be a civilian with at least seven years of retirement from the military. That waiver has been granted only twice before: once for President Trump's first secretary, James Mattis, and in 1950 for George Marshall, the top general during World War II.
