Megan Thee Stallion for GQ Hype Magazine!

After a year that saw her bag four Grammy nods, shatter the internet and scandalise half of America in the process, Megan Thee Stallion is ready to wrap 2020 up in style. But you’ll still be humming “Body” well into the new year…

“Daddy, what’s a WAP?” It was my eight year old daughter who asked me this question back in September. We’d just finished her English comprehension about Hadrian’s Wall. I fell silent; three seconds felt like three minutes. Firstly, I wanted to know where she’d heard that particular song. “It’s on your Spotify playlist, under ‘Johnny’s Bangerz’.” Ah, right. Note to self: I must change my password. Again.

Did she listen to it? “Just the once. I didn’t really understand it but I heard you talking about WAP on the phone. It’s catchy.” Well, firstly, maybe stay off that playlist, darling. Secondly, WAP stands for... ‘wireless application protocol.’ It’s the little device in phones and laptops that allows them to connect to the internet, wirelessly. That song is about, erm, connectivity. Got that? My daughter threw me a look that would make Melania Trump’s botox spasm then melt into her Maga-branded red coffee mug. “Yeah, sure.”

When the song “WAP” exploded onto playlists and into locked-down households across the globe this summer, concerned Middle England Brexiter parents and shrieking Bible-clutching conservatives alike took to the internet to brand the song’s authors – rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion – abhorrent she-devils. Some screamed these were women who would turn their children into twerking delinquents and partners into depraved horn dogs. “Silence them! Ban them! Burn them!”

Remember in 2000 when Eminem was rapping about – among many other heinous things – sexually assaulting and killing his own mother? ("Oh, now he's raping his own mother, abusing a whore / Snorting coke and we gave him the Rolling Stone cover?" from “Kill You".) The outrage this time was similar, but, thanks to social media, quicker and more combustible. Also this time around the artists were women, and female rappers – from Lil' Kim to Missy Elliott – have always had a rougher ride than their male, often cruder and coarser, counterparts. Men rapping about violence, taking drugs and being promiscuous has often been heralded as triumphant, normalised even; when women do the same they are scorned for being anti-feminist and out of control.

Megan, however, is forever unapologetic. With its graphic, almost Manga-style imagery of empowered female sexuality – “I want you to park that big Mack truck right in this little garage / Make it cream, make me scream / Out in public, make a scene” – “WAP” went straight to the top of the charts and straight into innumerable comment columns, some proclaiming its genius, but many deriding its moral bankruptcy. Nothing still so divides one’s approach to female empowerment, seemingly.

I, for one, love “WAP” and Megan. It’s near perfect pop, pop so precise, so 2020, it’s like it’s been made in a laboratory alongside Bad Bunny’s Crocs and Dua Lipa’s sparkly unitard. “WAP” is as catchy as mid-era Kylie Minogue, yet as sexy and provocative as Prince in full seductive flight. Megan makes The Weeknd look like a moaning, dewy-eyed lost puppy and makes music the listeners (whatever gender they identify as) want to lose their inhibitions to. As an artist Megan is sexy, powerful, aspirational and a heap of fun. What’s not to celebrate here?

No one has had a better year than Megan Thee Stallion and few stars have had such a rapid rise. Ever since she released her first mixtape, Fever, Megan has provided her “stanning” army of fans (she calls them her “hotties”) with an Instagram-ready icon designed to piss off the very people her listeners want to piss off: moralistic parents.

In March, Megan released “Savage”, a song that caught ablaze when Tiktokers used the booming staccato anthem as background for a bonkers dance craze. (I tried it. I failed. My children cackled.) The song ballooned into a monstrous smash hit; the subsequent remix that featured BeyoncΓ© – *sound pop klaxon* – helped make it one of the biggest tracks of 2020 and Megan one of the industry’s most in-demand artists.

Last month, Megan released Good News, her debut album that – despite being made amid a raging pandemic and while she was recovering from a gunshot wound – is positive, playful and powerful. “Body”, the album’s lead single and a song written during quarantine, is about as Megan as a song can get, bouncing along hypnotically on a thick bassline with lyrics about “lil waists” and “big”… well, listen to it. And, of course, it’s perfect for TikTok.

Did I mention the four Grammy nominations? Those too. Whether she likes it or not (one suspects she likes it a great deal) the Houston rapper is as mainstream as a Pixar film. Just, you know, an R-rated one. She’s an artist who seems most at home while making big bombastic statements; if your jaw is not on the floor, Megan figures she’s not doing “her” right.

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams now has a short pixie hairstyle.

Williams has been documenting her hair growth journey this year, so her short style may come as a surprise for some fans.

In June, she posted a behind-the-scenes video that showed off her natural hair before she got her wig from her line Go Naked Hair installed.

The mom of one was in full glam, and her hair was braided down for installation.

“When you in the middle of your @gonakedhair photo shoot waiting on your wig to be curled lol #StayTuned,” she captioned the clip.

The reality star also posted a picture on her Instagram Story that showed her hair outside of the cornrows in a ponytail.

“My secret treatment is really helping with my #HairGrowth !” Williams wrote.

Later in July, she again posted a video clip captured by her hairstylist Tanisha Bullock, who was about to trim her hair.

Williams swung her mid-back tresses back and forth as Bullock told her, “Your hair is crazy long.”

“I guess minding your business does pay off lol Hair just flourishingπŸ˜‚πŸ”₯ ,” the “RHOA” star captioned the video.

She once again teased a hair care line by adding, “Thanks to my lil secret concoction” along with “#StayTuned.”

Williams has yet to confirm whether her new big chop signals she is creating a hair care line.

#MusicNews: Mayer Hawthorne Remakes The Emotions ‘What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas’!

This Christmas will undoubtedly go down in the history as the oddest one of modern times. We're still in grips of a worldwide pandemic and are supposed to be quarantining, which means that gatherings with loved ones are going to be limited at best. Mayer Hawthorne — who just released his album Rare Changes — apparently anticipated this loneliness we're all feeling and decided to offer a cover of The Emotions' classic holiday jam "What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas."

Of course, Mayer doesn't do a complete redo of the 1973 original, adding his own Mayer-isms which isn’t matching The Emotions. Those include a melancholy synth line and hi-hats that add a modern touch to the affair. His slight changes to things make the song his own without ruining the song's special feel. In fact, the lovesick feel of the original remains in the lyrics as he sings of observing joyous times while pining for the one he loves.

With most of the world away from their loved ones during what's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, it's easy to see why many are relating to this song more than ever. Allow Mayer Hawthorne to sing your pain when you take a listen to his version of "What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas" HERE.

#HipHopNews: 50 Cent Proposes The Idea of a Lil Wayne vs. Drake ‘VERZUZ’ Battle!

50 Cent may not be too much interested in doing a VERZUZ battle with The Game or anyone for that matter but he does have an idea that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland could think about.

50 has been doing a select round of promotion around the country for his Branson cognac. During a stop in Texas, he did a live interview on Instagram where he was asked who would be a good opponent to both Drake and Lil Wayne if they were to take part in the series. 50 then proposed that the best would be for them to go against each other.

“I think because of the momentum, the best thing would be Lil Wayne vs. Drake.. because it’s two styles, two different styles in the same period so it will be entertaining enough to watch both of them,” he said while justifying his reasons. Watch the clip below.

The latest VERZUZ that took place was between Bay Area legends Too Short and E-40 which was a big hit, pulling in a total of 1.9 million viewers across all platforms.

R. Kelly Has New Date Set for Federal Trial in Chicago!

R. Kelly’s federal trial for child pornography and obstruction charges has been moved to September 13, 2021, The New York Times reports. The trial was originally scheduled to begin April 27, 2020 in Chicago, and given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber acknowledged that the new date could change again.

Kelly was arrested in July 2019 on a 13-count federal indictment that alleges he sexually abused minors and also conspired to obstruct justice. He has pled not guilty to the charges.

Kelly is facing numerous charges, including sexual misconduct charges in Hennepin County, Minnesota, a five-count indictment in New York “involving the coercion and transportation of women and girls in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity,” and more. He has pled not guilty to the charges in Brooklyn and Cook County, Illinois.

BeyoncΓ© To Give $5,000 Grants To Families Facing Eviction!

BeyoncΓ© is continuing to give back as many continue to struggle through the Coronavirus pandemic.

The “Drunk In Love” singer and her philanthropic organization, BeyGOOD, are awarding $5,000 grants to families or individuals who are facing eviction and/or foreclosure as the housing moratorium is set to end this month.

“When the pandemic hit, we helped organizations across the country that were aiding and assisting people with basic needs like food, water, household supplies and COVID testing. We also provided mental health support,” read a press release. “We then launched our BeyGOOD small business impact fund and to date, over 250 small businesses have received $10K grants.”

BeyoncΓ©’s BeyGOOD and NAACP launch grant campaign for Black-owned businesses

“This holiday season while many are stressed with what they will do next regarding their housing, we are proud to share some GOOD news,” the press release continues. “BeyoncΓ© is giving $5K grants to individuals and families facing foreclosures or evictions.”

Anyone who wants to apply to receive the grant is asked to send their application to the NAACP. The online application process is set to open on Jan. 7 and 100 recipients will be chosen. The grants will be sent out later that month. Round two of the applications will open in February.

BeyoncΓ© awards $10,000 grant to Black-owned cannabis company

Over the summer, Bey teamed up with the NAACP to award $10,000 grants to Black-owned small businesses that were hit severely during the pandemic. “BeyGOOD announces The Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund, assisting small businesses negatively impacted by recent events,” the organization wrote on Instagram. “The NAACP is proud to partner with BeyGOOD to help strengthen small businesses and to ensure economic empowerment for Black businesses.”

The Gift — a Maryland-based natural health and wellness company — was one of the recipients. The company, which specializes in cannabis products, said the grant helped them “re-launch our new sustainable packaging, launch a new website and our education platform Project 545.”

We Finally Know Who Tayshia Adams Is Engaged to After 'The Bachelorette'!

The spoilers are locked in. They're confirmed. And... they're somewhat shocking. Tayshia Adams is engaged after The Bachelorette and apparently, her season isn't as messy as we previously thought. After months of speculation, spoilers that have changed and more than a few unanswered questions, it turns out that Adams will reportedly get engaged on Tuesday night's finale, and she's apparently still in a relationship.

Adams reportedly choose Zac Clark, and the pair are still engaged, Reality Steve revealed on Tuesday morning. "She picks him, as originally reported, and I'm pretty sure they're engaged and still together. Whew," he wrote on Twitter hours before the finale. "Go to bed Tayshia's season. You're drunk."

This reveal comes after Reality Steve initially reported that Adams would leave the show with Clark, but later end the relationship. More recently, he reported that Adams was pursuing a relationship outside of the show with Brendan Morais, her third runner-up, who left the show on his own Monday night.

Now, it seems that Adams' ending isn't quite as alarming. It may end with a peaceful, loving engagement, and a reveal that Adams and Clark are still happily engaged.

Before the ending, though, things will apparently get a little weird. Monday night's episode showed Ben Smith returning. A cliffhanger episode left fans wondering if Smith would be welcomed back to the show after Adams previously sent him home. It looks like he will be. Smith will reportedly replace Ivan Hall and get to meet Adams' parents on Tuesday night.

"Had a hard time believing she'd keep Ben over Ivan, only to eliminate him just days later, but that's what she did. Ben and Zac both meet her family," Reality Steve wrote.

His tweet continued to explain that Smith reportedly wouldn't be invited to the finale day, though. At the start of her possible engagement day, Adams seemed to know that Clark was the one she wanted to choose. "She eliminates Ben after the family meeting. Zac is the only one who is there final rose ceremony day."

So, Bachelor Nation, there's your answer. Adams is engaged and happy, and apparently, her pick didn't change at all. That's the final finale word ahead of the episode.

It wouldn't be totally shocking if there was a slight change to the spoilers, given the rollercoaster nature of Adams' season in terms of behind-the-scenes information. But we're confident in Reality Steve's words—enough so to bet that this is how Adams' season ends.

Not ready to give up The Bachelorette? Even though it's ending, The Bachelor returns on January 4.

Alex Padilla Named as Kamala Harris' Senate Replacement!

With former Senator Kamala Harris making history as she prepares to step into the White House as the first Black and Indian-American woman Vice President next month, Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Alex Padilla to take over the former California senators seat. Padilla, California's current secretary of state, will continue to make history as he becomes the first Latino to represent California in the Senate.

“The son of Mexican immigrants — a cook and house cleaner — Alex Padilla worked his way from humble beginnings to the halls of MIT, the Los Angeles City Council and the State Senate, and has become a national defender of voting rights as California’s Secretary of State. Now, he will serve in the halls of our nation’s Capitol as California’s next United States Senator, the first Latino to hold this office,” said Governor Newsom in a statement. “Through his tenacity, integrity, smarts and grit, California is gaining a tested fighter in their corner who will be a fierce ally in D.C., lifting up our state’s values and making sure we secure the critical resources to emerge stronger from this pandemic. He will be a Senator for all Californians.”

Coming from the San Fernando Valley, Padilla began working for the Los Angeles City Council at age 26. He worked his way up to the California State Senate (2006-2014) where he chaired the Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Communications. While serving as the chair, he championed legislation to combat climate change. He later authored the law that requires restaurants to include calorie information on menus in order to confront rising obesity and diabetes rates. The act was included as part of the Affordable Care Act and is now national policy

“I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by Governor Newsom, and I intend to work each and every day to honor that trust and deliver for all Californians,” said Secretary of State Padilla. “From those struggling to make ends meet to the small businesses fighting to keep their doors open to the health care workers looking for relief, please know that I am going to the Senate to fight for you. We will get through this pandemic together and rebuild our economy in a way that doesn’t leave working families behind.”

Nicki Minaj Leaks Phone Numbers Of Trolls, Tells Fans 'Have No Mercy'!

Nicki Minaj is not messing around when it comes to how she deals with trolls.

On Monday (December 21), the "Expensive" rapper took to Twitter to instruct her loyal 21.6 million Twitter followers to "have no mercy" after she shared a screenshot of harassing messages from a group chat she was allegedly added to after so-called "fans" somehow got her phone number.

According to multiple Twitter users, Nicki leaked the number of "fans who got her number and starting texting her." The 38-year-old rapper, who recently welcomed her first child, shared the screenshots of the messages to Twitter and subsequently revealed the trolls' phone numbers.

"Barbz, have no mercy," she captioned the screenshots. As seen in the screengrabs, the trolls messaged Nicki everything from "does this count as harassment" to "Nicki I'm so sorry." Some even called Nicki's newborn son their "brother."

While Nicki later deleted her tweet/screenshots almost as quickly as she put them up, her fans were able to screenshot the post, which has since gone viral and sparked a Barbz digital attack.

Shortly, after Nicki's screenshots of the harassing messages began making their rounds on Twitter, one of the fans in the group chat took to social media to clear her name, saying in a video message that she had no idea Nicki was actually in the group chat.

Passengers Haven’t Received Any Notifications After COVID-19 Related Death On Flight!

A man that died on a United Airlines flight last week had COVID-19. Passengers from the flight told TMZ that United Airlines hasn’t contacted them to tell them that they were exposed to the virus.

The 69-year-0ld Los Angeles resident died at a New Orleans hospital from acute respiratory failure. According to TMZ, the man’s wife was overheard, telling other passengers that he had coronavirus symptoms.

Tony Aldapa, an EMT that was on the flight, administered CPR on the man. Aldapa told TMZ that United Airlines contacted him and told him that incident was being turned over to the CDC. Aldapa has experienced COVID-19 symptoms but has tested negative for the virus.

Other passengers that were on the flight told TMZ that they had not been contacted by anyone about the flight.

“If someone isn’t well – especially, during a pandemic – I would think that would raise a red flag and have the airline maybe question that a little bit before letting someone on a plane like that,” said Megan Roberts, a passenger on the flight said to TMZ.

There are 1.21 million reported cases of the coronavirus and 20,679 deaths in the United States.

Donald Trump Lashes out Over Relief Bill, Threatens to Veto Unless Changes Are Made!

President Donald Trump is ready to veto the latest coronavirus relief bill after not agreeing with some of the terms that were reached in the plan. He shared a four-minute video on his Twitter on Tuesday evening about the bill that will soon be heading to his desk. "It really is a disgrace," Trump said of the pandemic package. "It's the COVID relief bill but it almost has nothing do with COVID."

Trump pointed to a gripe that some other Republicans have called out, including Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, about how Democrats appeared to push their own agenda. "This bill contains $85.5 million for assistance to Cambodia, $134 million to Burna, $1.3 million to Egypt and the Egyptian military which will go out and almost exclusively buy Russian military equippment," Trump went on to say. He continued to rattle off beneficiaries in the bill that don't have anything to do with the coronavirus. Trump also mentioned how stimulus checks will still be able to go to "family members of illegal aliens, allowing them to get up to $1,800 each." He then shot down the idea of $600 being enough to stimulate the economy or providing enough help for families in need.

He announced that he would veto this bill unless changes are needed, believing that too much money is going to foreign countries and that "the bare minimum is going to the American people." Trump wrapped up his message by urging Congress to amend the bill and "increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000." His other demands also call for "wasteful items" to be removed and then once Congress puts together a more suitable plan, he will approve it.

This comes a day after Congress passed the bipartisan legislation after months of the two parties in a standstill over a new package's parameters. Among the most talked-about items included in the bill is the $600 stimulus check that will be included for all eligible Americans. After the spring package featured a stimulus check that was good for $1,200, many Americans were a bit bothered, even feeling overlooked as Trump suggested, that the government would cut that payment in half despite the COVID-19 numbers reaching an all-time high and the country continuing to be battered down in 2020 from all angles.
